The article touches upon an important problem for modern Russian society - the patriotic education of student youth. Solving this issue, it is necessary to consider this area, taking into account various aspects at this stage of the formation of the state, namely: the level of patriotism and patriotic feelings among the students, the main sources of knowledge about their homeland, the visualization of its image by young people, identifying the most memorable events that make more young people are proud of their country. The purpose of the work is to empirically substantiate the need for patriotic education of modern student youth as an important postulate of the spiritual revival of the nation. The term "patriotism" is mentioned in many fundamental sciences, in connection with which each scientist interprets it in his own way. However, any statement is based on the following basis - pride in one's Motherland, its success in the political arena, as well as victories in the sports and scientific fields, active citizenship, selflessness and devotion to one's state in the event of a danger that has arisen for it, conscious and all-consuming love to its people, its cultural characteristics and traditions. The proof of the above is the results of a sociological study conducted at the Department of Sociology and Social Technologies of the Central Russian Institute of Management - a branch of the RANEPA on the topic "Patriotic education of youth". This study covered such categories as "patriotism", "patriotic education", "image of the Motherland", "national spirit", "historical memory", "national identity". It is summarized that the patriotic education of student youth consists of various components, but its conscious position and the knowledge about the Motherland that were laid and continue to be in its mind at various stages of personality development are paramount.

The article is a review of the book by K. Clment Patriotism from Below. How Is It Possible That People Are So Poor in the Rich Country? (Moscow: NLO, 2021. 232 p.). The book is based on the results of the research project aimed at the detailed description of different types of everyday Russian patriotism with the help of the qualitative approach (in fact, case studies and semi-formalized interviews were conducted, although the book presents them as ethnographic research and in-depth interviews). The book identifies and describes the following types of the grassroot Russian patriotism which does not always coincide with the state patriotic discourse (patriotism from above): non-state and state everyday patriotism, non-patriotism, detached patriotism, and local patriotism. The review identifies both the undoubted merits of the book and its conceptual, methodological and analytical limitations which can become a starting point for further sociological studies of discursive practices and behavioral patterns of Russians, especially of those living in the Russian hinterland (depressed peripheral regions of the country).

The article presents the results of a study of the relationship between a number of socio-political dispositions of young people with variants of everyday patriotic ideas in terms of «civil» vs «protective» patriotism. For the empirical base of the study the authors used the data of a survey of young people aged 18-30 years, conducted in September 2020 in the Penza region (N=530). Based on the results of the study, it was found that the options for attitudes towards the country on the scale of «civil» vs «protective» patriotism, in connection with their characteristic socio-political dispositions, are systemic integrities that have both positive and negative characteristics, if we evaluate these variants in terms of their consolidation potential, that is so much in demand in the current situation. The civilian version of patriotism contains a serious resource for the development of the country in all areas, but it does not have any significant potential for nationwide consolidation. This variant of patriotism is extremely important and in demand during the period of sustainable development of society in favourable political and economic conditions, but is fraught with risks of fragmentation of the community into separate, explicitly or implicitly conflicting groups in critical situations. The protective version of patriotism is characterised by the vision of the Russian socio-cultural environment as a closed self-sufficient system. This does not provide a significant potential for the socio-economic and socio-cultural development of the country. The most serious drawback of the protective version of patriotism is the risk of its gradual degeneration into chauvinism. At the same time, the protective version of patriotism has a serious potential for the consolidation of almost all layers and groups of the Russian population. During periods of peaceful development of society in favourable external and internal conditions, this variant of patriotism is little in demand and even undesirable, but in critical situations, the protective variant of patriotism can become relevant and popular.

Purpose: The purpose of the article is to study groups of civil patriotism and to highlight the features of their civil-Patriotic practices in local communities in the South of Russia. Methodology: The sociological investigation utilized quantitative and subjective strategies, just as techniques for hypothetical understanding of the acquired experimental information. The basis of the scientific study of common nationalism bunches in Russia in the South of Russia was a lot of wellsprings of experimental data, including the aftereffects of a sociological report directed by an individual poll "up close and personal" in five subjects of the Russian Federation in the South of Russia. Result: The results of the sociological study made it possible to distinguish two social groups in regional communities – youth and the "over 60" generation, which are currently the social basis for the development of civic patriotism, whose representatives are characterized by a desire for active social action for the good of the fatherland and its people, participation in civil practices aimed at protecting social interests, civil rights and freedoms, as well as readiness for civil liability for their deeds and actions both in the field of professional activity and in everyday life. Applications: This research can be used for universities, teachers, and students. Novelty/Originality: The results of a sociological study show that in local communities in the South of Russia, no more than 10% of the population can be classified as civil patriotism groups.

This article is based on the results of a sociological study of Saratov’s youth, conducted by means of mass survey. Examined are the theoretical approaches towards analyzing patriotism as a social phenomenon based on the notion of its multi-variance. The substantive content of the term “patriotism” is defined to a significant degree by those values which young people appreciate. It is shown that the diversity of value dominants creates seven models of patriotic attitudes: abstract patriotism, traditional, local (including household), liberal, democratic, critical and globalist anti-patriotism. Temporally all of these models shift in different and often times opposite directions. The older one gets – the more “abstract” and “traditional” models of patriotism diminish in terms of their importance, while local and liberal models grow, on the contrary (however, the proportion of household patriotism, which is included into the local category, does decrease). The process of maturing for young people is typically accompanied by a decreasing significance of the anti-patriotic interpretation. Young people’s patriotism usually manifests itself in everyday life, and less commonly in political and celebratory activities. The younger generation takes the utmost pride in our World War 2 victory, as well as the culture and history of their country. The fact that upbringing has the greatest effect on developing patriotism among young people is confirmed. Other influential factors include (in order of diminishing importance) public organizations, structures of government power, mass media, the education system, religion. The authors’ analysis of the influence of patriotic events revealed that the greatest contributing factor to developing patriotism is when young people meet with veterans of various wars. Second place in that rating of effectiveness goes to watching feature films and reading books. All of Russian society’s social institutions appear to have vast unrealized potential when it comes to cultivating patriotic sentiments and views among young people. In order to fully realize this potential, the authors suggest not only drastically changing our perspective on such an issue as patriotism, but also initiating active work in regions and in local communities, assisting patriotic associations, clubs and other organizations focused on patriotism, paying close attention to the activities of educational institutions, intensifying patriotic work with students on behalf of the armed forces, and, finally, prompting mass media to radically change their perspective on patriotism and patriotic upbringing.

Dersim Sanjak, which was under the Mamuretulaziz Province during the First World War and the National Struggle, was comprised of Çemişkezek, Çarsancak, Ovacık, Nazımiye and Mazgirt districts. Due to its geographical location and sociological structure, Dersim (Tunceli) witnessed a number of social incidents during the Ottoman State and the early periods of the Republic. Following the occupations of Van and Bitlis by the Russians during the First World War, Dersim and its surroundings faced with the possibility of Russian occupation. Even though some tribes, which had had problems with local government all along and been under the influence of the Russian indoctrination in the region, revolted in the Eastern Dersim region, public order was established via the measures taken. In this process, to the contrary of the outbursts of some tribes, the Dersim tribes, acting with a sense of patriotism and the concern that the Russian occupation would include Dersim also, acted together with the Ottoman army and fought against the Russians with the militia they formed. When Antep, Urfa and Maraş were occupied by the French towards the end of 1919, telegrams of protest were sent from the Dersim Sanjak to the representatives of the Entente States, the Istanbul Government and the Representative Committee. In those telegrams signed by many leaders of the tribes, it was emphasized that the occupation of Izmir was against the Wilson’s Points; the outcome of the Paris Conference was disappointing, and the occupation in question could not be allowed. Due to the Koçgiri rebellion taken place during the National Struggle, there was instability in and around Dersim for a while. Having a political purpose rather than traditional banditry, The Koçgiri rebellion could not reach a wide social base and was taken under control in a short time.

Changes in Russian society, happened in the last three decades, determine the contradictory process of socialization of the younger generation. The blurry of perceptions about the type of personality demanded by society and the state, in many ways, determines the chaotic process of forming the values of young people, which proceed under the influence of random and sometimes divergent factors. Changing objective living conditions in modern Russian society leads to a significant complication of social self-determination processes, the formation of the problematic identity of various youth groups. The authors of the article focused on identifying local-territorial and sociocultural features of the memory of the Great Patriotic War of the students of the large regional centers of the Volga Federal District. The dynamics of this process are analyzed on the basis of data obtained during the research of historical memory of students of Nizhny Novgorod region and cities of the Volga Federal District in 2005–2015. The Volga branch of FCTAS RAS and LUNN, as well as the all-Russian sociological study of the Russian society of sociologists in 2020. The authors of the article substantiate the conclusion that the structure of the historical memory of young students is very selective, often without sufficient justification fixes attention on some events and ignores others, contributing to the mythologization of historical consciousness, disorienting it and creating a favorable ground for the emergence and strengthening of social destruction. The authors’ conclusion is convincing that without special eff orts of society, the state, educational institutions aimed at forming the historical consciousness of young students, it is impossible to maintain the attitude to the Great Patriotic War, as a landmark event in world and national history.

Resumo:
This study dwells on the historical memory of Russians about the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Based on the analysis of various sociological studies on revealing the attitude to the Great Patriotic War, as well as the authors’ research, we concluded that the historical memory about the war of 1941-1945 of the significant majority of Russians (in particular student youth) shows the continuity in their understanding of the leading role of our country in the victory over the enemy and its allies. The obtained data do not diverge from the official position of the Russian state on this key issue. It is important to note the fact that Russian families almost have no veterans who participated in that war. However, they keep carefully transmitting the information about the war events from generation to generation, which is an important component of the cultural tradition and national identity of Russia.
