Resumo:
A checklist of all species of bryophytes, lycophytes, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms that are found in the wild (native, naturalised and casual) in Singapore is presented. We have attempted to account for all names of species and infraspecific taxa that have ever been recorded for Singapore, along with the pertinent publications that reported each of these names. For each currently accepted name, the synonyms of relevance for Singapore are included. The native or non-native status for all taxa is given, along with the most recent national conservation assessment applied to each native taxon. If we were aware that the most recent assessment required an update, the taxon is newly assessed here. The checklist includes 2654 native taxa, 479 naturalised/casual taxa and 101 cryptogenic taxa.

Iranun and Balangingi. Globalization, maritime raiding and the birth of ethnicity By JAMES FRANCIS WARREN Singapore: Singapore University Press, 2002. Pp. xxii, 585. Maps, Figures, Tables, Notes, Bibliography, Index.James Warren's rewarding Iranun and Balangingi (2002) expands on his classic The Sulu Zone (1981) but retains the explanatory model: Southern Philippine slave-raiding (1768–1898) was caused by the capitalist world economy's demand for commodities. This essay suggests that Warren's depiction of servility is too undifferentiated, that he may have overestimated labour needs and elite control while underestimating free trade.

Resumo:
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a novel beta-coronavirus that causes a variety of symptoms in patients known as coronavirus disease (COVID-19). COVID-19 infection may cause complications involving the central nervous system (CNS), peripheral nervous system (PNS), muscles, or autonomic system (ANS). Compared with central and peripheral nervous system involvement in COVID-19 infection reports, the bibliography describing ANS manifestations is more limited. We report a patient with confirmed SARS-CoV-2, admitted to one of the tertiary hospitals in Singapore with small fiber neuropathy. Small fiber neuropathy as a neurological manifestation in COVID-19 infection is rare. Our case report adds to and supports this observation and also highlights how SFN in COVID-19 infection can be self-limited without requiring immunosuppressive treatment.

This article provides a reintrepretation and emphasis on journalism and newspapers, generally through the writings of W.R. Roff. Three of his works significant to this study are Studies on Islam and Society in Southeast Asia (2009: NUS Press Singapore), Bibliography of Malay and Arabic periodicals published in the Straits Settlements an Peninsular Malay States 1876-1941 (1972: Oxford University Press) and The Origins of Malay Nationalism (1967: Yale University Press). From his studies, it is instructive to recall that the Malay-language newspapers was the outcome of the collusion between the culture of the Malay archipelago and the West; and early Malay journalism from 1876 through the beginning of the Japanese Occupation in 1942 was the expression and manifestation of a Malay identity through the Jawi Peranakan and Hadhrami communities in an urban and cosmopolitan climate, with specific reference to the Tanjong Malays in Pulau Pinang.
