In this paper, the authors aim to extend the notion of interval-valued vague soft sets to establish the concept of possibility interval-valued vague soft expert sets. The set theoretic operations of this concept and other related concepts are introduced. The algebraic properties of this notion such as the laws of commutativity, associativity and De Morgan are established and verified. Lastly, the similarity measure between this set is introduced and illustrated using a hypothetical example related to texture synthesis.

AbstractThis paper investigates the ways English speakers employ the predicates like, similar, and resemble to express similarity in natural speech. A corpus of 450 instances was created and manually coded, and an acceptability rating experiment was conducted. Converging evidence from the corpus analysis and the experiment shows that the three predicates occur with the same range of uses, but differ in their propensities to occur with particular dimensions of similarity. Specifically, like is associated with metaphorical comparisons, and resemble is associated with visual comparisons. A synchronic account of these findings is developed, based on a distinction between conventionally encoded meaning and prototypical usage. A diachronic account is also proposed, highlighting the commonality in the predicates’ conceptual origins and the differences in their historical usage. This work has theoretical and methodological implications for the study of similarity. In particular, it raises the possibility that previous findings may be distorted due to a reliance on certain similarity predicates in the phrasing of experimental instructions and stimuli. It also ties into debates on synonymy, suggesting a shift in attention from a distinction between denotational and associative meaning, to the aforementioned distinction between conventional and prototypical meaning.

Plithogenic sets are versatile in nature, and they are widely applied in decision making. However, the generalization of Plithogenic sets is essential to make the process of deriving optimal solutions more comprehensive. Hence, this paper introduces the concept of Possibility Plithogenic Soft Sets (PPSS) with the aim of developing a generalized form of Plithogenic soft sets. The types of PPSS,union and intersection operations, and similarity measures with possibility degrees are discussed. A practical application of Possibility Plithogenic Soft Sets is also presented in this research work to illustrate the advantages of PPSS in constructing solutions to decision-making problems.

In this research, I have examined the possibility of machine consciousness and related philosophical challenges that are at the face. The research will progress in the following manner. First, I will discuss the concept of consciousness from scientific and philosophical perspective, and try to show the extend of our understanding regarding problem of consciousness. I will discuss the cognitive and Neuroscience approach to relate the physical nature of consciousness with the technological simulation. In the second part, I will bring some technical aspect in the development of AI and its future consequence, but that will be a brief discussion as I think, discussion should be centered around the philosophy not on science. In the concluding section, I aim to demonstrate that even if we were to attain machine consciousness in the future, it would significantly diverge from the consciousness observed in biological phenomena. For that, phenomenological study of consciousness is to be carried out on the epistemological as well as metaphysical ground. My final stand is to show that, in case of similarity of behavioral operation and neural simulation, machine consciousness is still different from human consciousness.

The intelligent diagnosis emphasizes the processing method of knowledge of the historical data. The capability of an intelligent diagnosis system depends on the knowledge possessed by the system, especially by the specific knowledge in application. Currently, most of the important equipment have their own the inspection systems. With the help of these systems, plenty of historical data can be collected in real time. This paper discusses the possibility of the application of similarity extraction and pattern discovery of time series in fault diagnosis by using these historical data, presents the method of time series feature extraction and pattern matching, and advances the possibility of data clustering and pattern discovery based on dimension reduction.

The paper evaluates the possibility of modeling the heat transfer phenomena in a liquid-metal coolant using a light water test facility. A large nuclear power reactor (like the BN-1200 project) was selected as a reactor installation to be modeled. To validate the model, the similarity theory and the “black box” method were used. The paper uses the experience of a number of researchers in this field, in particular, the accepted assumptions which do not result in serious loss in modeling accuracy. The governing criteria of similarity were estimated based on the fundamental differential equations of convective heat transfer, so were the conditions under which it is possible to model sodium coolant by using light water with adequate accuracy. The paper presents the scales of the parameters used for the model - reactor comparison. Dependence curves of certain scales with regard to others are constructed, and the possibility of achieving similarity of certain parameters in modeling was estimated. Recommendations are provided on designing a water test model of the BN reactor and on carrying out experiments using this test model.

Some languages come from historical common ancestors and they share similarity on the basis phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Some words resemble each other between remote and even unrelated languages. Apart from historical borrowing, this is mainly due to common ancestor language. Degree of lexical similarity is one of the methods to measure word and cognate resemblance between languages. For this purpose, some lists have been proposed by professionals that contain words with the slightest possibility of borrowing from another language and the highest durability throughout time. The word for ‘tooth’ is present in all these lists. This shows the stability of this word and accounts for its similitude among world languages.

Finding changed and similar functions between a pair of binaries is an important problem in malware attribution and for the identification of new malware capabilities. This paper presents a new technique called Function Similarity using Family Context (FSFC) for this problem. FSFC trains a Support Vector Machine (SVM) model using pairs of similar functions from two program variants. This method improves upon previous research called Cross Version Contextual Function Similarity (CVCFS) e epresenting a function using features extracted not just from the function itself, but also, from other functions with which it has a caller and callee relationship. We present the results of an initial experiment that shows that the use of additional features from the context of a function significantly decreases the false positive rate, obviating the need for a separate pass for cleaning false positives. The more surprising and unexpected finding is that the SVM model produced by FSFC can abstract function similarity features from one pair of program variants to find similar functions in an unrelated pair of program variants. If validated by a larger study, this new property leads to the possibility of creating generic similar function classifiers that can be packaged and distributed in reverse engineering tools such as IDA Pro and Ghidra.

The ‘Paulus and Jesus’ seminar at the SNTS meeting at Trondheim in 1985 decided not to investigate the ‘sachliche Kontinuität’ between Jesus and Paul in their preaching and conduct at the following session, but rather the ‘sachliche Entsprechung’; this terminology was chosen because earlier studies, in particular of Paul's use of Jesus-traditions (by Dr N. Walter at Basel in 1984) and of the possibility that the Hellenists were a ‘bridge between Jesus and Paul’ (by Professor H. Räisänen in Trondheim), had, through no fault of the excellent and judicious papers of these two scholars,’ seemingly shown that thetraditionsgeschichtlichequestion implied by the term ‘Kontinuität’ had proved a blind alley. The purpose of the present study is, however, to show that the question of continuity is nevertheless a necessary one that cannot and should not be avoided, and moreover that it need not be quite as fruitless as might seem to be the case.

What determines the similarity of musical rhythms? According to the “family” theory, which this paper presents, one factor is the temporal sequence of the onsets of notes: rhythms with the same pattern of interonset intervals tend to sound similar. Another factor is meter. It determines whether or not rhythms are members of the same family, where families depend only on three types of possibility for each metrical unit. If the beat is the relevant metrical unit, these three possibilities are: 1) a note starts on a beat and therefore reinforces the meter, 2) a syncopation anticipates the beat and lasts through its onset and therefore disturbs the meter, and 3) all other events such as rests or ties that start on the beat provided no syncopation anticipates them. Two experiments showed that similarity between rhythms depends on both their temporal patterns of onsets and their families, which combined give a better account than edit distance – a metric of the distance apart of two strings of symbols. Two further experiments examined the errors that participants made in reproducing rhythms by tapping them. Errors more often yielded rhythms in the same family as the originals than rhythms in a different family.

Functional dependency is the basis of database normalization. Various types of fuzzy functional dependencies have been proposed for fuzzy relational database and applied to the process of database normalization. However, the problem of achieving lossless join decomposition occurs when employing the fuzzy functional dependencies to database normalization in an extended possibility-based fuzzy data models. To resolve the problem, this study defined fuzzy functional dependency based on a notion of approximate equality for extended possibility-based fuzzy relational databases. Examples show that the notion is more applicable than other similarity concept to the research related to the extended possibility-based data model. We provide a decomposition method of using the proposed fuzzy functional dependency for database normalization and prove the lossless join property of the decomposition method.

hand the idea of interval-valued neutrosophic soft sets (IVNSSs) is a new generalization of the neutrosophic soft sets to the neutrosophic sets when the authors combine the critical features of IVNS and soft sets (SSs) in one model. Accordingly, this model worked to provide decision-makers with more flexibility in the process of interpreting uncertain information. From a scientific point of view, the process of evaluating this highperformance IVNSS disappears. Therefore, in this paper, we initiated a new approach known as possibility interval-valued neutrosophic soft sets (PIVNSSs) as a new development in a fuzzy soft computing environment. We investigate some fundamental operations on PIVNSSs along with their basic properties. Also, we investigate AND and OR operations between two PIVNSSs as well as several numerical examples to clarify the above fundamental operations. Finally, we have given similarity measure (SM) between two PIVNSSs to construct a new algorithm that is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method in handling some real-life applications.

Due to the vast dimension and significant resemblance seen among data, exploring divided clusters in real-world datasets is the most difficult assignment. The major contribution of proposed algorithm to ensure the noise resistance in the presence of random salt & pepper noise. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm has been analysed on random “salt and pepper” noise added on original dataset and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) has been calculated between original dataset and noisy dataset. It has been observed that PCM-S with ADPLICM is effective in minimizing noise during supervised classification by introducing local convolution.

These algorithms automatically determine the number of clusters.
<p>Soft set has limitation for the consideration of disjoint attribute-valued sets corresponding to distinct attributes whereas hypersoft set, an extension of soft set, fully addresses this scarcity by replacing the approximate function of soft sets with multi-argument approximate function. Some structures (i.e., possibility fuzzy soft set, possibility intuitionistic fuzzy soft set) exist in literature in which a possibility of each element in the universe is attached with the parameterization of fuzzy sets and intuitionistic fuzzy sets while defining fuzzy soft set and intuitionistic fuzzy soft set respectively. This study aims to generalize the existing structure (i.e., possibility intuitionistic fuzzy soft set) and to make it adequate for multi-argument approximate function. Therefore, firstly, the elementary notion of possibility intuitionistic fuzzy hypersoft set is developed and some of its elementary properties i.e., subset, null set, absolute set and complement, are discussed with numerical examples. Secondly, its set-theoretic operations i.e., union, intersection, AND, OR and relevant laws are investigated with the help of numerical examples, matrix and graphical representations. Moreover, algorithms based on AND/OR operations are proposed and are elaborated with illustrative examples. Lastly, similarity measure between two possibility intuitionistic fuzzy hypersoft sets is characterized with the help of example. This concept of similarity measure is successfully applied in decision making to judge the eligibility of a candidate for an appropriate job. The proposed similarity formulation is compared with the relevant existing models and validity of the generalization of the proposed structure is discussed.</p>

This article presents a technique of traffic similarity observation based on the statistical method of survival analysis by using a genetic algorithm. The basis comes from the k-means clustering algorithm. The observed traffic is collected from different network sources by using a NetFlow collector. The purpose of this technique is to propose a process of finding spread malicious traffic, e.g., ransomware, and considers the possibility of implementing a genetic-based algorithm. In our solution, a chromosome is created from clustering k-means centers, and the Davies–Bouldin validity index is used as the second fitness value in the solution.

In aviation, great emphasis is placed on aircraft safety. The current technical condition of the aircraft and its systems is an important parameter for its airworthiness. In this respect, the usage of diagnostics without disassembly is considered an advantage. This method provides information on the technical condition of the aircraft or its parts throughout their operational and technical life. The technical condition of the elements measured during a flight should be compared to parameters specified by the manufacturer and measured in laboratory conditions. This article deals with the possibility of the use of dimensionless numbers for the diagnostics of the hydro generator.

AbstractLet Mn be the algebra of n × n matrices over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. For A ∊ Mn, denote by the collection of all matrices in Mn that are similar to A. In this paper we characterize those invertible linear operators ϕ on Mn that satisfy , where for some given A1,..., Ak ∊ Mn and denotes the (Zariski) closure of S. Our theorem covers a result of Howard on linear operators mapping the set of matrices annihilated by a given polynomial into itself, and extends a result of Chan and Lim on linear operators commuting with the function f(x) = xk for a given positive integer k ≥ 2. The possibility of weakening the invertibility assumption in our theorem is considered, a partial answer to a conjecture of Howard is given, and some extensions of our result to arbitrary fields are discussed.

This study explores the possibility of applying the sociopsychological phenomenon known as similarity attraction to the creation of more customized and persuasive mobile advertising without privacy concerns, and for this purpose, we develop two applications, SensPlus and PerAds. While the SensPlus app accumulates the smartphone usage profiles of participants and constructs a regression model to predict their personality, the PerAds app presents user-created content according to the user's personality. The participants' response to a smartphone ad is measured in terms of invitation acceptance of the cherry blossom festival and classical music concert. The χ2 statistics imply participants respond differentially to the various types of smartphone ads according to the similarity between the personalities of the user and ad types. Our results indicate that the socio-psychological phenomenon can be introduced into practical application by replacing the personality trait factors with the smartphone usage pattern.

Complicated uncertainties arising in the multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) problems that show distinct possible satisfaction of the subjects to favorable and equally unfavorable parameters with varying preferences require reliable decision-making under comprehensive mathematical tools. For such complications, this work aims to develop a novel fuzzy parameterized possibility fuzzy bipolar soft set model as a fuzzy parameterized bipolar soft extension of possibility fuzzy sets. The proposed model efficiently depicts the possibility of fuzzy belongingness of alternatives under fuzzy parameterized bipolar parameters (or attributes). The respective operations and properties such as subset, complement, union, and intersection are presented along with their numerical illustrations. Two logical operations namely “AND” and “OR” operations followed by two corresponding MCDM algorithms have been developed and implemented. Furthermore, similarity measures between fuzzy parameterized possibility fuzzy bipolar soft sets are proposed and applied to an agricultural land selection scenario. Finally, a comparative analysis of current work with existing ones is discussed in detail to show the eminent quality of the proposed work over them.

We re-take the possibilistic (as opposed to probabilistic) approach to information coding put forward in 1,2. To enhance the possibilistic approach also outside the realm of "subjective" uncertainties, in this paper we adopt an "objective" interpretation of possibilistic source coding based on utility functions and an "objective" interpretation of possibilistic channel coding based on distortion measures and similarity indices. We stress the relationship between possibilistic coding as based on distortions between sequences and algebraic coding as based on minimum distances between codewords. We compute the operational (coding-theoretic) entropy for a new class of possibilistic sources.

In exemplar models of categorization, the similarity between an exemplar and category members constitutes evidence that the exemplar belongs to the category. We test the possibility that the dissimilarity to members of competing categories also contributes to this evidence. Data were collected from two 2-dimensional perceptual categorization experiments, one with lines varying in orientation and length and the other with coloured patches varying in saturation and brightness. Model fits of the similarity–dissimilarity generalized context model were used to compare a model where only similarity was used with a model where both similarity and dissimilarity were used. For the majority of participants the similarity–dissimilarity model provided both a significantly better fit and better generalization, suggesting that people do also use dissimilarity as evidence.

It is believed that non-Gaussian statistics of intermittency leads to anomalous scaling in turbulence, and self-similarity normal scaling corresponds to Gaussian assumptions. By a reasonable model of probability density function (PDF) of intermittent velocity increment, we demonstrate the possibility that non-Gaussian statistics may lead to self-similarity and normal scaling. The experimental facts of scaling-range exponents being anomalous, are not against a non-Gaussian self-similarity in the inertial range. In scaling ranges at experimental Reynolds numbers, viscous and large-scale effects are not negligible, the non-Gaussian self-similarity is broken due to viscous and large-scale effects, and anomalous scaling is observed.

The possibility of more than one magnetic state has been explored for the face-centered-cubic Co19 cluster using the local spin-density linear combination of the Gaussian orbital method. Fixed moment calculations were done and the converged states were used as an input potential to obtain self-consistent solutions. Two different magnetic states with the magnetic moment per atom of 1.00 μB and 2.05 μB were obtained. The high-spin moment state has lower energy and is considered the ground state, and the low spin moment a metastable state. The local magnetic moment of the center, first- and second-shell atoms are found to be 1.90, 1.64, and −0.72 μB respectively for the low spin state, and 1.87, 1.92, and 2.01 μB respectively for the high spin state. Considering that the center-site atom has shown slow convergence to bulk moment for other transition-metal clusters in previous studies, Co clusters are found to be exceptional as far as this property is concerned. Density of states (DOS) of the cluster and bulk have been compared after the cluster levels were Gaussian-broadened. The DOS similarity between cluster and bulk is also found to be reasonably good.

This article tackles the notion of possibility of the two central modal verbs 'can' and 'may' in English. It starts to introduce 'can' concentrating on its possibility sense. It sheds light on how linguists present the various aspects of meanings of 'can' especially Palmer (1990). It also introduces 'may' as a polysemous modal verb. So 'may' could be regarded as an epistemic and root possibility verb at the same time. There is involvement of certain steps to distinguish the ambiguous senses of 'may'. In negation, 'may' affects the proposition. Ultimately, it shows that both 'can' and 'may' share a feature of similarity and certain features of difference especially the theoretical and factual possibility difference where 'can' expresses 'theoretical possibility' and 'may' indicates 'factual possibility' sense

Abstract The method of partially invariant solutions of PDE systems was introduced by Ovsiannikov as a generalization of the classical similarity analysis. It offers a possibility to calculate exact solutions possessing a higher degree of freedom than similarity solutions. Ovsiannikov's algorithm, however, is somewhat hard to apply because one has to deal with three equation systems derived from the original PDE system. By means of the two-dimensional Euler equations, we show how the algorithm can be essentially simplified if classical similarity solutions are already known. Further, we prove a necessary criterion for the simplified algorithm to be senseful.
