The Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique was used to study the genetic diversity and relationships within the collection of the Czech National Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) of peaches (Prunus persica L.). The aim of the work was to elaborate a dendrogram of genetic similarity and to divide collection into clusters. 46 primers were applied to 6 cultivars differing in the place of origin, the fruit shape, the fruit colour, and in some other morphological characteristics. 12 primers were chosen which gave polymorphic repeatable strong and middle strong bands. They were subsequently used for the RAPD reactions within the whole collection of peaches. The selected RAPD primers distinguished 28 peach cultivars and RAPD data were used to group the accessions analysed. Almonds and peach × almond hybrids were clearly separated in the frame of the whole collection. The grouping corresponded to the botanical system, to the available information about pedigree, and to the cultivars description.

Background. The XRQ sunflower genome has been sequenced but not yet fully annotated, and not all candidate genes for most traits have been identified. Disclosing the relationships among traits in this study will help to understand the genetic control over phenotypic characters.Materials and methods. A set of 237 sunflower lines from VIR’s genetic collection was phenotyped for their morphological characters (plant height; branching type; shapes and sizes of the leaf, petiole, flower head, disk and ray florets; downy mildew damage rate) and genotyped with molecular markers. DNA markers were used to identify accessions carrying the Rf gene and CMS. Factor analysis was applied to structure the genetic collection.Results and discussion. The data of 2017 and 2018 were compared using the analysis of variance. The results of the latter testified to the heritability of morphological characters, as well as to the alignment and purity of lines from VIR’s genetic collection of sunflower. New data were obtained on the phenotypic diversity of sunflower and stability of its agronomic traits across the growing seasons.Conclusion. Groups of interacting characters were identified by the factor analysis: 1) plant height, and duration of the growing season phases; 2) pollen fertility restoration with CMS PET1, SCAR markers HRG02 and HRG01 of the Rf1 gene, and branching; 3) the color of ray and disk florets, and petiole shape, as well as lamina surface shape. Lines with CMS PET1 were classified into three groups differing in the systems (possibly genes) of pollen fertility restoration. The factor analysis made it possible to confirm the assumption that several Rf genes whose manifestation differed from the Rf1 gene were present in the studied sunflower lines from VIR’s genetic collection.

Vertebrate osteological collections provide comparative material for morphological analysis. Before being stored in the collection and studied by researchers, specimens are treated by preparators or curators and are cleaned. The preparation protocol employed ideally should not damage the material. Here, we explore the potential deformation of bones due to preparation using geometric morphometric methods. We focus both on intraspecific and interspecific variability. Our data on the scapular girdle of birds show that, at an intraspecific level, the effect of preparation on bone shape cannot be neglected. Paired and unpaired bones did not respond to the preparation process in the same way, possibly due to differences in function and their anatomical characteristics. Moreover, deformations due to preparation can be estimated by looking at the texture of the bone. At the interspecific level, we found no significant differences as the deformations induced by preparation are relatively small compared to differences among species. This study highlights the importance of carefully selecting preparation methods in order to avoid physical damage that could impact the shape of bones, especially for studies at the intraspecific level.

We studied the divergence of our beans collection. The study included two qualitative traits, grain color and shape, and 13 quantitative traits, namely three components of plant height, five direct yield components and five chemical properties of grain. The principal component analysis (PCA) showed which of the traits were decisive in genotype differentiation. The principal components were formed based on the correlation matrix and shown through unrotated and rotated values of trait correlation with the main axes. The percentage contribution of particular principal components to total variability was shown, as was the accumulation of variability. The variability of the collection was interpreted based on the seven principal components, the first one describing genotype productivity, the second grain shape, the third grain size, the fourth genotype harvestability and the last three describing the chemical composition of grain. .

The paper presents an extensive numerical analysis performed by three-dimensional (3D) simulations using the finite difference in time and space (FDTD) method to identify the optimal geometry, size and configuration of the nano-antennas that constitute a plasmonic metasurface. The aim was to achieve the highest resonance at various wavelengths (NIR-VIS), for local enhancement of the excitation field and collection efficiency of emitted photons. We investigated ten different types of metals, two shapes (disks and U-shape resonators) and various geometrical parameters for the nanoresonators composing the metasurface. The best results for Rhodamine 6G excitation and emission were obtained using silver resonators with 105 nm diameter of the cylinder elements in a rectangular array with a 110 nm period, and with 110 nm long U-shape placed at a period of 40 nm.

This research aims to analyze the types of metaphors used and contained meanings contained in a collection of poems by William Blake. A metaphor is a part of figurative language that compares one thing to another. The researcher used a descriptive employed in study qualitative method to identify a collection of classic poetry by William Blake. The researcher uses the theory of Lakoff, George, and Johnsen (2003) to analyze the conceptual metaphors that shape the reality of 'life' which is reflected in poetry. There are three steps in collecting research data: observation, selection, and classification. This research result shows that ninety-five metaphorical lyrics are contained in the ten of classic collections of poetry by William Blake. The data were gathered using a collection of poems from three types of conceptual metaphors: structural, orientational, and ontological. The types of metaphors found in this research are ontological metaphors. And in reverse, the meaning of each metaphor depends on the type used in the poem. In conclusion, the poems by William Blake have a high imagination based on experiences as well as advice to the readers.

The development of South Korean culture is currently very popular among teenagers, women or men. K-Pop Group Twice is one of the results of South Korean culture. Twice Group K-Pop fans also want to have idol-themed goods. Every collection owned by collectors is always exhibited or sold at local Twice Group K-Pop events. At the event, displays are used for promotional media for collection products to be sold. Based on this, facilities are needed to facilitate collectors in product promotion media in the form of booths or display collections of products that can be used during events.
The research method used to find data, used a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods, namely observing in various places related to display design, and conducting interviews with several members of the k-pop idol group community and collectors. In analyzing the design analysis used, the order of analysis is as follows: needs analysis, space analysis, display analysis, ergonomics analysis, anthropometric analysis, arrangement analysis, placement analysis, shape analysis, color analysis, system analysis, material analysis, and finishing analysis. which is on the display design for the placement of the collector's merchandise collection.
The results of the analysis show that the product has an elegant design concept and displays the shape of the characteristics that the k-pop idol Twice always brings. This display can make it easier for visitors when they want to find a collection of merchandise at events and the display can also be used at home as a placement for other collectors' collections.

Abstract Gmelina arborea Roxb is a valuable plant that has great potential in various applications, including the timber industry. This study aims to analyze the morphophysiological aspects of gmelina, but knowledge about the morphophysiological characteristics of this plant is still limited. The data collection method involves direct measurements in the field and the use of special measuring equipment to obtain accurate data. The collected data was analyzed statistically using the appropriate method. This study was conducted by collecting 75 samples of gmelina leaves in the community forest in Botolomenpangan Sinjai Barat Village. Morphological parameters include color, namely, green, light green and spotted green. The shape of the leaves is shaped like a heart (cordate). The shape of the leaf tip is tapered while the shape of the base of the leaf is flat like a straight line (Truncate). The shape of the gmelina leaf edges is jagged and flat. The shape of the gmelina leaf bones is pinnate and the texture of the leaves is smooth and shiny. Physiological parameters starting from the largest chlorophyll content are at the location of taking 2 meters from the soil surface which is equal to 0.03610. The water content in gmelina leaves has the same high value starting from the location of taking the base, middle, and ends which is 9.9774, while the highest leaf area is in gmelina leaves which is 37.21 with the location of taking the base. The results of this study are expected to provide a better understanding of the morphophysiological characteristics of gmelina. This information can be used in a variety of applications, such as plant breeding and increasing wood production.

Three-dimensional digitization technologies have been proved as reliable methods for detailed and accurate spatial data collection from existing cultural heritage. In addition, the point segmentation techniques are particularly relevant for contour detection and classification of the unstructured point cloud. This paper describes an approach to obtain 2D CAD-like visualizations of complex geometry from photogrammetric models so that the detected contours of particular object elements can be used for 2D shape analysis. The work process uses the point clouds derived from photogrammetric models to create the plane visualization of the object’s geometry by segmenting points based on the verticality geometric feature. The research presented is on the case studies of iconostases as the specific art and architectural elements of the Christian Orthodox church that can be appreciated only in situ. To determine relations between the characteristics of the particular shapes and the iconostases’ style origins, the mathematical method of shape analysis was applied. This study aims to numerically describe the stylistic characteristics of the shapes of the main parts of the iconostasis concerning the artistic period to which it belongs to. The concept was based on the consideration of global shape descriptors and associated shape measurements which were used to analyze and classify the stylistic characteristics of the iconostases. The methodology was applied to the representative examples of three iconostases from the Baroque and Classicism art movements. The results illustrated that the proposed methods and techniques, with certain improvements, could be helpful for CAD visualization and shape analysis of complex geometry.

In this paper, an attempt has been made to assess how effective waste-collecting uses the conveyor wing. This wing-equipped conveyor will later be installed in front of the ship. In this work, a simulation model is a conveyor and wing without the ship. A numerical investigation based on Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) for predicting the flow pattern characteristics, velocity contour, and resistance. The focus of the present study is the impact of wing shape on waste collection in calm water through the application of numerical methods. The three variations of wing shape used are solid wing shape, square hollow wing shape, and circle hollow wing shape. It is done using speed variations of 1 to 12 knots. From the analysis of velocity contour, circle hollow wing is faster in collecting waste, then followed by hollow square wing and solid wing. From the flow pattern analysis, the circle hollow wing model is easier to make ocean waste come closer to the winged conveyor than the square wing and solid wing model. It is known that winged conveyors can only be used to collect ocean waste at low speeds. Then based on resistance comparison, it is also known that the resistance of winged conveyors from the largest to the smallest is the solid wing, hollow circle wing, and hollow square wing, respectively.

This article examines the case of Luisa Lynch’s Asian collecting–currently the Asian Collection in the National Museum from Fine Arts in Chile–according to the formation rules that define the practice of collecting and outside of conventional analysis associated with the museum. It argues that the collecting of Asian art in Chile cannot be conceptualized like a museum collection. On the one hand, the paper reveals the characteristics and limitations of museality, that is and perspective of the museum and the rules that shape it, for the study of the Lynch collection. On the other hand, it offers a new approach based on principles that emerge from Lynch’s collecting phenomenon: the liberal attitude and its installation conditions.

The article deals with investigating the resemblance between the kashkul shape from the collection of the Istanbul Museum of Islamic and Turkish Art and the Slavic type of longship. The specified item is now being kept in the exposition of the specified collection as an item of the Sefevidian era period of the early 17th century under the inventory number 2960. The typological analysis of its shape, peculiarities of the use of similar items in the Orthodox tradition of the Old Rus, Byzantium, separate countries of the Christian world and Scandinavia prove the closeness of this item to the shapes that were common in the Orthodox society. Analysis of the item decoration, the method of its manufacture allows us to assume the contribution of Islamic craftsmen, possibly Persian, to casting of this artefact. The study results are reduced to the basic hypothesis that the object designated in the exposition of the Istanbul Museum of Islamic and Turkish Art called kashkul (a bowl for the poor or a container for alms) has a shape of a golden longship that was in common use between the 10th and 14th centuries in the Kyivan Rus-Byzantine tradition.

Take shape games can help children to hone the ability to recognize geometry shapes. The results of field observations on the ability to recognize geometric shapes of students have not yet developed optimally. So, it is necessary to apply the game to take shape. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of taking on the ability to recognize geometric shapes of children aged 4-5 years. This research was conducted at Dharma Wanita Persatuan Cerenti Kindergarten District Kuantan Singingi. This study used an experimental method with the design of one group pre-test post-test design with 15 samples. The data collection technique used was an observation sheet to record the activities that occurred during the given treatment. The data analysis technique used a t-test using the SPSS version 23 program. From the results of data analysis, the t-count was 14.402, greater than t-table = 2.145 with sig 0.000 <0.05 There is a significant difference in the ability to recognize geometric shapes before and after the application of the take shape game. There is an influence of the shape of the game on the ability to recognize the geometry of children aged 4-5 years in the Dharma Wanita Persatuan Cerenti Kindergarten Cerenti District Kuantan Singingi by 60.65%.

Copula analysis was created to explain the dependence of two or more quantitative variables. Due to the need for in-depth data analysis involving complex variable relationships, there is always a need for new copula models with original features. As a modern example, for the analysis of circular or periodic data types, trigonometric copulas are particularly attractive and recommended. This is, however, an underexploited topic. In this article, we propose a new collection of eight trigonometric and hyperbolic copulas, four based on the sine function and the others on the tangent function, all derived from the construction of the famous Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern copula. In addition to their original trigonometric and hyperbolic functionalities, the proposed copulas have the feature of depending on three parameters with complementary roles: one is a dependence parameter; one is a shape parameter; and the last can be viewed as an angle parameter. In our main findings, for each of the eight copulas, we determine a wide range of admissible values for these parameters. Subsequently, the capabilities, features, and functions of the new copulas are thoroughly examined. The shapes of the main functions of some copulas are illustrated graphically. Theoretically, symmetry in general, stochastic dominance, quadrant dependence, tail dependence, Archimedean nature, correlation measures, and inference on the parameters are investigated. Some copula shapes are illustrated with the help of figures. On the other hand, some two-dimensional inequalities are established and may be of separate interest.

Purpose : This study aims to know the aesthetic analysis of the shape of the smart casual fashion work of Ksatria Wastra Avirama.
Research methods: this research uses qualitative methods, The data were collected through observation, documentation, and literature, then the data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods.
Findings: Ksatria Wastra Avirama is a fashion collection consisting of 5 pieces of smart casual clothing made from endek patchwork and seseh woven fabrics. The process of doing work using textile manipulation techniques. Each outfit has a special meaning based on the collected patchwork colors. The aesthetics of the analyzed form are elements of art and design principles in clothing.
Implications: The results show: The aesthetics of form in the work of Ksatria Wastra Avirama were formed from artistic elements in the form of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines, pant silhouettes, square and triangular shapes, and different colors for each design (red, yellow-brown, blue-purple, black and blue, and green), hairy texture, stiff and matte, the size uses the "M" size, dark light to dark, up and down directions, as well as from design principles in the form of rhythmic repetition of color, shape, and texture, harmony in color and texture, shape, proportion 1 (one) on the top and 2 (two) on the bottom, symmetrical balance, the center of attention on the textile manipulation section, the unity of color, texture, and shape elements.

The present research discloses a novel hybrid water-cooled Photovoltaic/Parabolic Dish Concentrator coupled with conical cavity receiver and spectral beam splitter (PV/PDC-CCR-BSF). In effect, a compact co-generating solar-concentrating PV system involving a subsequent optical interface has been fully developed and numerically tested. The optical performance of the proposed hybrid solar-concentrating system was modeled and assessed using the RT 3D-4R method while the thermal yield of the system was examined using the Finite Element Method. In addition to that, different configurations of serpentine-shape embedded water-cooling pipes (rectangle, semicircle, semi-ellipse and triangle) have been tested and optimized for maximum heat collection and minimum operating cell temperature. The performance of all the tested serpentine-shape embedded water-cooling pipes was evaluated with respect to conventional serpentine-shape water-cooling pipes. The outcomes indicated that the triangular cross-section outperforms other shapes in terms of heat dissipation capabilities, with about −446 W and maximum useful thermal power in the medium of the heat transfer fluid of 11.834 kW.

One of the more interesting collections of plaster prototypes, as yet not thoroughly studied, is the Warsaw collection of plaster casts. In the to-date studies it has been analysed from the perspective of history and history of art as a homogenous whole, a carrier of artistic culture. However, what is still missing are analyses focusing on basic facts as perceived by a museum curator, enabling identification of the objects composing the collection. The present paper aims at discussing the issues related to the identification of the works’ models and interpretation of works which come from university museums’ collections. The case study selected will concern one of the statues from the collection of the University of Warsaw. A detailed study of the cast of the goddess demonstrates how an analysis of one object can extend the knowledge of a whole museum collection. An accurate identification of the object and of its provenance allow us to better see custodians’ motivation for the selection of definite exhibits, and to enhance our understanding of how museum exhibits shape Polish culture and scholarship.

Turbine blade is one of the key components of the aero engine. It needs to be inspected comprehensively and carefully during its production stage. The methods for investment turbine blade geometrical shape analysis based on optical scanning measurement were presented, including optical measurement data collection, blade model reliable alignment and geometrical shape deviation fast calculation and visualization. Real measurement data from a structure light measurement device for a turbine blade was used to validate the discussed methods.

Abstract Maintaining an adequate blood supply for transfusion poses a pressing challenge to society. We argue that this challenge has not been adequately addressed in previous research. Building upon Healy’s seminal work on ‘blood-collection regimes’ and the subsequent shift towards a field-level approach that broadens the analytical focus beyond the dyadic relationship between donors and organizations, we embed the act of blood donation within the organizational field in which blood establishments operate. We assume that varying modes of governance shape the organizational practices of donor recruitment and blood collection. Our analysis is based on Eurobarometer data from 2014 (number of countries = 28; number of individuals = 19,363). The results identify considerable variance in donation rates according to field characteristics in terms of hierarchical centralization and competitiveness. Decentralized systems without competition perform worst in terms of the recruitment of (first-time) blood donors. Competitive systems in which several different bodies share responsibility for the provision of blood to patients yield the highest donation rates.

New techniques involving three-dimensional (3D) data collection and landmark analysis provide an opportunity to make considerable advances in understanding blastoid morphology. This pilot study examines four species (Pentremites pyriformis, P. tulipaformis, P. fredericki n. sp. and P. meganae n. sp.) using 3D morphological variation and geometric morphometrics to discriminate between species. All specimens were collected from a single shale unit within the Upper Mississippian Glen Dean Formation near Hopkinsville, Kentucky. A 3D laser scanner was used to acquire 3D images for all specimens. Conservative blastoid thecal plating allowed the collection of 3D coordinates for a series of homologous landmarks from these laser images that fully describe specimen morphology. Data were analyzed using the R (language and environment for statistical computing and graphics) packages SHAPES and MCLUST. Mixture modeling identified and separated all four species based on shape alone. In addition, three new species were discovered during this study, including: Pentremites fredericki, P. meganae and Diploblastus fadigai.

Bogor Botanic Gardens has many living collections in terms of pollen diversity. The purpose of this study was observed at the diversity of pollen morphology at the Bogor Botanic Gardens and its implications for the pollen conservation of plants in the collection. The method used is cleaning the pollen using Glacial Acetic Acid (AAG), then examined using a light microscope in the tissue culture laboratory of Bogor Botanic Gardens. There were 35 specimens that were analyzed and the results were randomly shaped pollen from radial symmetry or bilateral symmetry to its combination with monocolpate, tricolpate, pericolpate and stephanocolpate. While aperture types were the monoporate type with 5 specimens, monocolpate 10 specimens, tricolpate 11 specimens, stephanocolpate 4 specimens, periporate 4 specimens, and syncolpate 1 specimen. Three specimens families Caesalpiniaceae (order Fabales) has the shape of pollen vary, i.e radial symmetry monocolpate and radial symmetry tricolpate. Similarly, two specimens of the family Araliaceae (Apiales) different shapes, namely radial symmetry and bilateral symmetry tricolpate. In Asteraceae and Asclepiadaceae has the same shape, the radial symmetry tricolpate. Overall of 35 specimens then there are 22 specimens of radial symmetry and 13 specimens of bilateral symmetry. For the same family have the same ornamentation, for example in the Lamiaceae, Malvaceae, and Rutaceae. But the uniqueness occurs in the family of Arecaceae or palm family that show the diversity in the shape and size of pollen in each genus. Pollen morphology analysis through a combination of morphological data, palynology, and molecular samples more would be better. Pollen bank as pollen in the living collections of Bogor Botanic Gardens is needed to germplasm conservation of endangered plants in Indonesia.

The human sacrum shape and its metamorphoses should be considered due to their effect, primarily mechanical, predisposing for the vertebral column function evolution. The aim of the study is to define the human sacrum shapes and explain for such variability. The object of the study is represented with 68 sacrums obtained from the review collection of anatomical study preparations of the Bogomolets National Medical University Department of Anatomy. Each of the known human sacrum shapes represents the stage of the process of “sinking” of the sacral vertebrae bodies into the sacrum, with simultaneous fixation of external apices of their lateral parts in the sacroiliac joint. Generally, metamorphoses of the sacrum shape make up an accommodation for the new mechanical conditions as well as causal external factors. The sacrum continuously sustains multiple factors’ effects in each moment of the human life, which affects its shape and metamorphoses. The analysis of the human sacrum shape and functions reveals important instances: first, certain parts of the sacrum don’t preserve permanent relations; secondly, alterations in these relations keep to a certain sequence. This issue permits us to consider various sacrum shapes as sequential stages of the same process, occurring in the human body.

In general, the North Wewewa Wewewa Woven Fabric of Bokuna Village is passed down from the ancestors and followed until now this Woven Fabric has beautiful motifs made based on daily life and also from nature. Ethnomathematics is a bridge between culture and mathematics, ethmomathematics is adapted by cultural groups to see that the culture contains mathematical aspects. This research aims to find out the concept of geometry in Woven Fabrics. The data collected is in the form of documentation, interviews, and observation results. The type of research used in qualitative descriptive is to describe the mathematical elements contained in woven fabrics. Data collection uses observation and interviews. Data analysis is carried out qualitatively with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the analysis show that Woven Fabrics are sacred crafts that are inherited from ancestors or from generation to generation. In the study, the researcher found several one-dimensional and two-dimensional buildings. Parachute recovery systems along with GPS-based localization will ensure that each probe can be located and recovered for post-flight analysis.

The analysis and understanding of artefact properties and their relationships is a key goal in archaeological analysis of cultural heritage objects. There are many aspects of concern, including shape properties of the objects, but also appearance properties stemming from paintings and ornamentations on the object surfaces. To date, these are considered by experts mostly holistically and on a per-object basis. We present an approach for the interactive visual exploration and correlation of shape- and ornament-based properties of a large collection of ancient vessels. Our approach allows to group objects by properties, and to relate them in side-by-side and bipartite graph displays. To this end, we define an encompassing set of feature descriptors, which are leveraged to cluster the objects by properties, selected by the user. Case studies show that a comparative overview of all objects effectively supports the discovery of interesting co-occurrences of shape and ornament properties. This way, our tool opens new possibilities for the domain analysis of cultural heritage object collections by data-driven visual exploration.

Dandelion plants at the Lethbridge Research Centre, Alberta, have several different leaf shapes and possibly include individuals that are tolerant to glyphosate. The objectives of this study were to determine whether different leaf shapes are due to genotypic differences, whether chemical composition varies with leaf shape, and whether plants vary in their response to glyphosate. Plants with possible glyphosate tolerance were collected in 1998 from a pasture field where forage grasses were terminated with glyphosate, and from an alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) field where no herbicides had been applied. Image analysis of plants that were progeny of the original collection indicated that they have significantly different leaf shapes. DNA analysis confirmed that genotypic differences associated with leaf shape exist among dandelion plants collected at the Lethbridge Research Centre. The biotypes had different metal concentrations, which may be a concern if plants are sampled to monitor metal contamination. All biotypes had acceptable metal concentrations for use as cattle feed. In greenhouse tests, all biotypes required similar doses of glyphosate to reduce growth by 50%. All biotypes have considerable tolerance to glyphosate at rates to at least 1.8 kg a.e. ha-1, root fragments remained that were capable of supporting new leaf growth. Pre-Hispanic basketry is scarce and at present, there are few analytical studies on these objects. This study presents an analytical investigation of a collection of ancient baskets from Museo Nacional de Etnografía y Folklore (MUSEF), La Paz, Bolivia employing portable X-ray Fluorescence and portable Raman Spectroscopy. The analyses were performed in situ with non-invasive and non-destructive methods. The chemical elements K, Ca, Ti, Mn, Fe, Zn, and Sr were identified in all the samples. The principal component analysis tends to separate the basket pieces in two groups: one of them is related to stylistic shape of the Middle Horizon, Titicaca Lake basin, and the other was inconclusive. This was the first time that tinctures used in Andean pre-Hispanic basketry from the MUSEF collection were chemically evaluated and the results added historical and archaeological context to the objects.

Identifying and classifying species of stingless Neotropical bees is not a trivial task and requires the help of taxonomists and substantial study and training time. Also, there is a lack of taxonomically useful characters to differentiate among the megadiverse Neotropical group of stingless bees, and to recognize variation. Based on that, we have been testing alternatives to a character-based, efficient taxonomic determination of stingless bees, and herein we performed exploratory analyses of wing shape variation using geometric morphometrics. Thus, we built a data set of photographs of the right anterior wing of 1628 individuals belonging to 11 species in the genus Melipona (Illiger 1806) taken from collection material deposited in entomological collections. We then conducted a Procrustes analysis, followed by a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and by a Canonical Variable Analyses (CVA). The two first principal components of the PCA accounted for 68% of the variation of the wing shape, and the ordination displayed by the first component separated species of the subgenus Melikerria from the others. In the CVA, the first two canonical axes explained 88% of the wing shape variation found among species, and Melikerria appears as a separate group, apart from the other subgenera in the first canonical axis. Along the second axis species belonging to Eomelipona and Michmelia, and among the Michmelia species, and its species group fuliginosa formed well-separated clusters. The wing shape variation of Melipona supports the recognition of subgenera as currently proposed for Melipona.

Collecting fog water is crucial for dry areas since natural moisture and fog are significant sources of freshwater. Sustainable and energy-efficient water collection systems can take a page out of the cactus’s playbook by mimicking its native fog gathering process. Inspired by the unique geometric structure of the cactus spine, we fabricated a bioinspired artificial fog collector consisting of cactus spines featuring barbs of different sizes and angles on the surfaces for water collection and a series of microcavities within microchannels inspired by Nepenthes Alata on the bottom to facilitate water flowing to the reservoir. However, replicating the actual shape of the cactus spine using conventional manufacturing techniques is challenging, and research in this area has faced a limitation in enhancing water-collecting efficiency. Here, we turned to 3D printing technology (vat photopolymerization) to create bio-mimetic fog collectors with a variety of geometric shapes that would allow for the most effective conveyance and gathering of water. Various barb sizes, angles between each barb in a single array, spine and barb arrangements, and quantity of barbs were tested experimentally and numeric analysis was carried out to measure the volume of water collected and optimize the mass rate. The result shows that optimal fog collection is with a mass flow rate of 0.7433 g/min, with Li = 900 μm, θ = 45°, ϕ = 90°, Nb = 2, and Ns = 5. This study presents a sustainable and ecologically sound method for efficiently collecting humid air, which is expected to be advantageous for the advancement of future-oriented fog-collection, water-transportation, and separation technologies.

This study aims to know the mathematical elements in the lanang motif woven fabric, construct a mathematical model on the increasingly lanang patterned weaving, and construct a new mathematical model for the new lanang motif woven fabric. The data was obtained in the form of qualitative data using interview data collection techniques, observations, documentation and field notes with data analysis, namely domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, component analysis and theme analysis. The results showed that the lanang-patterned woven fabric has geometric shapes, namely pentagons, rhombuses and triangles, to make pentagons, rhombuses and triangles using a pattern formed from small polygons called a rhombus-shaped unit lattice. The mathematical model used in this research is the matrix; to create a pentagon requires a matrix of order 103 × 210, to form a rhombus requires a matrix of order 103 × 338, and to develop a triangle involves a matrix of order 103 × 348. These patterns can create new designs by manipulating the rows contained in the matrix owned by each shape.

Even if a building has the same building area or number of floors, the effect on construction safety varies depending on the building shape, and thus, safety management cost (SMC) should be calculated differently. If the effect of the building shape on the SMC is clearly analyzed and reflected, a reasonable SMC could be calculated. This study analyzes building shape’s impact on SMC, including apartment buildings’ impact. Following the data collection from 21 projects for this study, an analysis was conducted using the independent variables of the building perimeter (BP), building floor area (BA), and the building shape factor (BSF), and the dependent variable of SMC. As a result of analyzing the correlation between the three main factors and SMC, it was found that the BP, BSF, and BA have a very strong positive Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.876, 0.801, and 0.792, respectively. In the future, the results of this study can be used as supporting data for improving the safety management cost-related system and will develop into a more reliable model through continuous data accumulation and utility verification.

Simulation models of social processes may require data that are not readily available, have low accuracy, are incomplete or biased. The paper presents a formal process for collating, assessing, selecting, and using secondary data as part of creating, validating, and documenting an agent-based simulation model of a complex social process, in this case, asylum migration to Europe. The process starts by creating an inventory of data sources, and the associated metadata, followed by assessing different aspects of data quality according to pre-defined criteria. As a result, based on the typology of available data, we are able to produce a thematic map of the area under study, and assess the uncertainty of key data sources, at least qualitatively. We illustrate the process by looking at the data on Syrian migration to Europe in 2011–21. In parallel, successive stages of the development of a simulation model allow for identifying key types of information which are needed as input into empirically grounded modelling analysis. Juxtaposing the available evidence and model requirements allows for identifying knowledge gaps that need filling, preferably by collecting additional primary data, or, failing that, by carrying out a sensitivity analysis for the assumptions made. By doing so, we offer a way of formalising the data collection process in the context of model-building endeavours, while allowing the modelling to be predominantly question-driven rather than purely data-driven. The paper concludes with recommendations with respect to data and evidence, both for modellers, as well as model users in practice-oriented applications.

This study aims to determine and describe problem solving abilities based on the stages of thinking about rectangular flat shapes. The technique utilized is expressive subjective. The subjects in this study were seventeen students selected at random with the highest scores being selected by three grade VII understudies of SMP Negeri 2 Pemangkat. The data collection technique used is a test that will be given to the selected subject based on problem solving based on Van Hiele's thinking. The results of describing the data show that there are three subjects who are in the Visualization stage, they know the name of the rectangular shape from the visual form without knowing the nature and conditions of the shape, for the analysis stage the three subjects have not reached, students cannot explain and determine the nature of the requested shape and for the stage of abstraction there are no students who reach this stage, judging by the results of their answers that students have not been able to define a rectangular shape in indonesian itself and have not been ready to decide similar properties between one shape and another.

This study is one of the researches on the graphic design of local product labels. Sabah’s products are unique and competitive at its higher level. This study analyzes the quality and effectiveness of visual communication of snack product labelling to consumers according to aspects of art, design, and composition. The analysis begins with the collection of signs and the definition of each element on the label through Pierce's analytical theory and the classification approach of Stokes (2003), the design element consisting of images, letters, compositions, colours, and design displays on classified labels. Next, physical elements such as shapes and colours are interpreted by researchers. This study proves that semiotics can be used to interpret meanings and messages on the physical elements of labels. Aspects of shape and colour influence user psychology. The identity of a product can also be identified. The selection of graphic design elements on product labels can generate ideas for entrepreneurs to upgrade the quality of local products. Quality product labelling will have a positive impact on industrial tasters and be able to contribute knowledge to the industry itself.

A flat shape is a geometric part that only has a perimeter and area. There are various shapes of flat shapes, such as triangle, square, long, parallelogram, rhombus, kite, trapezoid, and circle. The aim of this research is to conduct a literary analysis related to the difficulties faced by students in expressing their ideas in the subject. which are given. The analysis method used is called Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Data collection was carried out by documenting and reviewing 7 national index articles; the articles are then broken down into different areas. Based on the research results, there are thirteen articles that discuss the difficulties experienced by students when solving problems related to the topic of building a flat-sided room. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that there are still problems that students often face when trying to solve problems related to the construction of flat-sided spaces. The most common types of errors are formula errors, errors in shape identification, and errors in understanding the concept of plane figures. This is caused by uneven understanding of concepts, inaccurate determination of formulations, and uneven student bias in understanding the results of flat shapes.

Abstract South Sulawesi province is among the Indonesia rice barns, which is expected to buffer the national rice supply. Although rice stock is mainly produced from high-yielding superior varieties, local germplasm is still the main basis for variety development. Local germplasm has been adapted to various agro-ecosystems and thus has potential as a genetic source for adaptation to climate change. This study was aimed at measuring the diversity of rice germplasm from South Sulawesi based on its grain characteristics. A total of 98 rice accessions that were conserved in the agricultural genebank were examined. Grain length, shape, color, and other grain-related characters were observed following the international standard descriptors for rice. NTSYS-PC software version 2.2 was used to perform clustering analysis. Rice collections from South Sulawesi showed diversity in their grain characteristics. The majority of seeds are awnless, have medium length, medium shape, and straw-colored lemmae-palea and attributed with medium-sized and straw-colored sterile lemmae, and the dehulled grain bran is predominantly white. The rice accessions can be grouped into eight clusters at a similarity level of 52%. This diversity and similarity information is important for germplasm management and utilization. However, due to the limited number of characters used, information from this study cannot yet be used as a basis for their management. More comprehensive characterization efforts need to be conducted in order to make this study more usable, both in supporting conservation and for their utilization

It is important for learners to have mathematical literacy skills because it can help learners utilize mathematics in real life, solve problems, assess whether the results obtained make sense, and analyze situations and make conclusions. In the Program for International Students Assessment (PISA), there are four mathematics contents: Space and Shape, Change and Relationship, Quantity, and Uncertainly and Data. The purpose of this study is to identify the learning obstacles experienced by students in the Space and Shape content. This study used a qualitative approach using dedactical design research. With 16 learners, this research was conducted at SMP PST Guppi Samata class IX. The instruments used in data collection are tests and non-tests. The test material consists of questions about mathematical literacy skills level 3, 4, and 6 using flat-sided space building material. The non-test instruments used in collecting data are observation and documentation. Based on the research results, students experience learning difficulties in space and shape content which causes them to be less able to evaluate solutions that have been interpreted. The percentage shows that out of 16 students in class IX, 10% of them have high math ability, 60% have medium math ability, and 30% have low math ability. Efforts can be made to start with the habituation of providing basic calculations so that students can answer test questions correctly. After that, motivation can be given and encourage students to be enthusiastic in understanding the concept of critical thinking in applying the context of the problem to real objects.

The article studies the iron helmet under inventory number GIK-228, stored in Akmola regional historical museum (AOIKM, Kokshetau, Kazakhstan). The purpose of this article is to provide a detailed description of the helmet’s construction and design, as well to define its age and attribution. By its material, the helmet is classified as an iron helmet, by its construction it is solid-forged and by its shape it is spherocylindrical. As a result of the analysis of the construction and design features of the AOIKM helmet we can consider that it belongs to XVII-mid of XVIII centuries. Most probably it has been forged in the second half of this period for a wealthy Oirat (presumably Djungar) Buddhist warrior. This assumption is made based on the helmet’s construction, considering that its top is shaped like a Buddhist ritual vessel. The AOIKM helmet might have been forged either by local Djungarian armorers or in one of craft centers in Transoxiana (or Mawarannahr) where gunsmiths were massively preparing armor for Djungars under supervision of Oirat masters. Numerous helmets of similar design decorated with Buddhist symbolsare kept in museums and private collections in Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia and China.

Apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) is one of the most cultivated fruit trees species worldwide, its fruits being consumed not only for their organoleptic attributes, but also for their nutraceutical properties. Therefore, the genetic variability of the species is extremely important to insure a large enough pool of cultivars to accommodate consumer demands for various fruit traits, such as taste, flavor, color, shape, etc., as well as to preserve cultivars that have less desirable organoleptic properties but are resistant/tolerant to biotic and/or abiotic stress and could be good genitors for these traits. The current study presents the use of ISSR method to assess the genetic variability among seven Romanian apple cultivars from the orchard collection of University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, Romania: ‘Florina’, ‘Remar’, ‘Ciprian’, ‘Iris’, ‘Rebra’, ‘Generos’, and ‘Redix’. In addition, the method proved to be useful in identifying closely related individual genotypes, allowing the identification and elimination of duplicates from collections, without compromising the collection’s genetic variability.

AbstractThe Geiseltal fossil collection from southern Sachsen-Anhalt Germany contains remarkably well-preserved fossils of middle Eocene age. These include several crocodylian skulls, representing at least four different genera with a fifth genus represented by two mandibular rami. As sites with this many crocodylian genera are unknown in modern ecosystems, it has been hypothesized that these crocodylians may have differences in habit as compared to living crocodylians. In order to test similarities between the Geiseltal crocodylians and extant species, an analysis was conducted using geometric morphometrics to quantify shape in crocodylian skulls of all living species (n= 218) and all well-preserved crocodylian skulls of the Geiseltal fauna (n= 28). A relative warps analysis was used to quantify and compare skull shape, revealingAllognathosuchusandBoverisuchusto be very distinct from each other as well as fromAsiatosuchusandDiplocynodon. Overlap in shape alone exists between someDiplocynodonand someAsiatosuchus, but there was significant difference in adult size. When compared with extant crocodylians, three Geiseltal genera occupied distinctly non-modern morphospace in the first two relative warps axes. Comparison of the diets of living crocodylians with similarly shaped skulls was used to reconstruct the prey preferences of the Geiseltal crocodylians, revealing differences in specialization. During the middle Eocene high global temperatures, partitioning of prey preference may have allowed this group to attain its higher than usual diversity, reducing the amount of direct competition.

Abstract This article explores the icing scaling technology for large civil aircraft icing wind tunnel tests. Based on the typical critical icing conditions of large civil aircraft and the calibration of icing wind tunnel, and through the similarity analysis of water droplet trajectories, water collection, and energy balance, four similar parameters, namely modified inertia parameter, drop energy transfer parameter, stagnation freezing coefficient, and accumulation parameter, were selected as similarity criteria for icing scaling. Based on this criteria, icing scaling was conducted on the critical icing conditions of large civil aircraft, and the scaling results were evaluated by icing code. The results show that the water droplet collection and the ice shape before and after the scaling are in good agreement, and the similarity criteria used are appropriate. Finally, icing wind tunnel test was conducted in 3m × 2m test section using scaled icing conditions. The test results show that the main characteristics of the experimental ice shape are in good agreement with the calculated ice shape, and the calculated ice shape is more critical. The calculated ice shape can be used as a critical ice for aerodynamic wind tunnel tests and flight tests with simulated ice.

This study examines the fine motor development of children using the mosaic technique. The purpose of this study was to find out how to optimize children's fine motor development with the mosaic technique. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach with two research subjects. Data collection techniques in this study using observation and documentation. Analysis of the data used in this study using data collection, data reduction, data display and affirmation of conclusions. This study shows how children attach origami paper that already has a pattern with a small shape and glue HVS paper which has an apple-shaped pattern in training eye and hand coordination simultaneously. Based on the results of the data in this study, two subjects had optimal fine motor skills using the mosaic technique.

The maintenance and preservation of library materials is carried out with the aim of preserving the information values ??contained in a document, accelerating information retrieval, maintaining the beauty and tidiness of documents, maintaining library materials so that they can still be used, and preventing collections from various factors that are damaging. The method used in writing this article is a literature study, with an emphasis on peeling, summarizing and collecting literature, then giving the analysis. Maintenance and preservation are carried out in the library, namely, 1) cleaning the collection from dust, 2) cleaning the floor every day, 3) avoiding using thick bookmarks, 3) holding both sides of the book while reading, 4) storing books in a dry place, 5) weeding the collection, 6) changing the shape using media, 7) reproduction of library materials, 8) binding and laminating. The factors that causing damages to library materials are, 1) physical factors or material characteristics, 2) environmental or climatic factors, 3) human factors. Activities and preservation of library materials required reliable human resources. Constraints in the preservation of library materials, namely, the lack of preservation personnel, the absence of institutions that handle it specifically and lack of funds.
