This study highlights the intensity of print serials utilized at Babcock University library from 2008 to 2012. The study only takes account of print serials subscribed to and made available at the serials department of the library. The result of the study revealed that serials recorded the highest level of use in 2008, the lowest utilization occurred in 2012. Serials in social sciences, medical science and religion as well as magazines/newsletters, were the most utilized. There were also indications from the findings that print serials have continued to support learning, teaching and research. Therefore, the researchers concluded that subscription to print serials should be on-going. Librarians should also endeavor to create more awareness and encourage patrons’ use of print serials.

A Review of: Branscome, B. A. (2013). Management of electronic serials in academic libraries: The results of an online survey. Serials Review, 39(4), 216-226. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.serrev.2013.10.004 Abstract Objective – To examine industry standards for the management of electronic serials and measure the adoption of electronic serials over print. Design – Survey questionnaire. Setting – Email lists aimed at academic librarians working in serials management. Subjects – 195 self-selected subscribers to serials email lists. Methods – The author created a 20 question survey that consisted primarily of closed-ended questions pertaining to the collection demographics, staff, budget, and tools of serials management groups in academic libraries. The survey was conducted via Survey Monkey and examined using the analytical features of the tool. Participants remained anonymous and the survey questions did not ask them to reveal identifiable information about their libraries. Main Results – Collection demographics questions revealed that 78% of surveyed librarians estimated that print-only collections represented 40% or fewer of their serials holdings. The author observed diversity in the factors that influence print to digital transitions in academic libraries. However 71.5% of participants indicated that publisher technology support like IP authentication was required before adopting digital subscriptions. A lack of standardization also marked serials workflows, department responsibilities, and department titles. The author did not find a correlation between serials budget and the enrollment size of the institution. Participants reported that they used tools from popular serials management vendors like Serials Solutions, Innovative Interfaces, EBSCO, and Ex Libris, but most indicated that they used more than one tool for serials management. Participants specified 52 unique serials management products used in their libraries. Conclusion – In surveying academic librarians engaged in serials management, the author sought to identify trends and standards in the field, but instead found significant variation in serials budgets and processes amongst the responding libraries. While it is clear that electronic subscriptions are a significant development and now a permanent feature of serials management, decisions to move from print to digital are complex and definitive conclusions about best practices for serials transitions could not be drawn from this study. The survey revealed that institutions have invested in staff and tools for the management of electronic serials, but staffing configurations and tool combinations are also extremely diverse. The author concluded that the lack of standardization in these areas and the disconnect between institution and serials budget size indicated a serials landscape that was highly individualized and customized to each institution’s unique needs.

Serials being important to students and researchers as they contain the most current and relevant information that can be used for academic and research purposes needs to be assessed periodically to determine if they are still relevant to the users. This study therefore examines the analysis of serials citations in graduate-students’ theses as a functional tool for effective management of serials in university libraries using theses submitted from 2013 to 2021 in Library and information Science of four government owned universities in eastern region of Nigeria as case in point. The study was meant to provide answers to three research questions which formed the guide while a descriptive survey design was applied with a population of 203 which stood as the total number of masters’ degree theses produced by the four universities within the period under study. The main instruments used in collecting data for this study were the researcher-designed checklists with which 8445 serials citations were collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics of mode, mean and range and data presented in tables, charts and graphs using frequencies and percentile. The outcome of the study revealed that journals with 76% citations were the most cited against conference proceedings/reports with 20% and the least cited being government publications with only .5% citations. It was further established that multi authorship is the most cited authorship pattern in the graduates’ theses whereas the average age of serials cited were within the age bracket of 0 - 18. The conclusion drawn is that with the most cited type(s) of serials, serials titles, ages of serials and preferred authorship pattern known through citations analysis of serials in research reports, the university librarian is better placed as to knowing which serials to select, acquire and how to have them organized for easy accessibility and retrieval by users as well as the amount of money to be earmarked for their acquisitions which invariably will bring about prudent management of the library budget in this period of shrinking budget for academic libraries. The study therefore recommended among other things that for effective application of serials citations analysis as a functional tool for effective serial management, staff of serials unit most partner documentation unit as to ensuring proper citations analysis of serials submitted to the library by every department as this can be used as a guide for the unit to identify the core serials for selections, acquisitions and also as a guide for total serials collections maintenance.

Creating bibliographies (from the 17th century to modern times) is a way of describing books and other types of publications and classifying them according to certain standards, with the aim of providing sufficient information about a certain work. Since the end of the Second World War, with the increase in the number of publications on the territory of the newly formed state, there was a need to create a unique database of bibliographies of publications, in order to provide users with insight into the entire publishing activity of Yugoslavia. This work continued even after the independence of the Republic of Serbia, in the National Library of Serbia (NLS). In addition to creating bibliographies of monographic and serial publications, the NLS also creates bibliographies of articles and content from professional journals. The Department of Serial Publications, more precisely the Subject Analysis Subdepartment, is in charge of this work as a separate organizational unit. Within this department, in addition to the creation of bibliographies, bibliographies of articles from proceedings, CIP of articles (professional classification of articles from serial publications of articles), revision of the library collection, and translation of UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) tables are carried out.

In 1996, its centenary year, the New York Public Library opened its Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) in a former department store in mid-town Manhattan, occupying 160,000 square feet of usable floor space. The building, which has received six awards, is designed to be both attractive and highly functional. The $100 million project was funded by a combination of private and government funds. The concept is of a specialized high technology research centre with unparallelled older and current print collections (1.2 million books and serials) and access to electronic resources, which also incorporates a 50,000-item circulating library of popular print, audiovisual and multimedia materials. All of the resources are available to the public at no charge. Much of the collection is on open access. There are several professionally staffed information service points. The provision of extensive training sessions is proving to be an outstanding success, more than 20,000 people having registered since SIBL opened. A three-year grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation has enabled SIBL to train information professionals in the three crucial areas of technological competence, customer service and professional development.

The use and importance of newspaper collections in academic libraries have been in decline as acquisition costs have increased significantly as the difficulty obtaining daily issues in a timely manner has grown, and as newspaper readership has declined nationally. In contrast, today’s student and researcher are using television and Internet news sources heavily. This article explores the role of the academic library’s news collections in complementing the university’s Newspaper Readership Program and supporting faculty efforts to develop their students’ critical thinking and media literacy skills. The authors suggest that digital news forms, including television, should be considered and included as part of the library’s collections. In this light, lessons can be learned from convergence taking place in the news industry. Libraries must also “converge” news sources to provide library users with news sources, which reflect today’s news environment and also reflect the “information cycle.” The newly created News Room at Pattee Library incorporates a three-television news viewing area; a broader selection of newspaper titles (particularly international titles); and a news magazine collection, as well as providing access to a wide variety of news aggregator database, and the library’s significant historical microfilm collection. A temporary television installation and focus groups were used to help inform the development of the News Room and to determine interest and resistance to sound and televisions in the library. The Libraries’ Serials Department provided analysis of newspaper delivery options (and reliability) and related subscription costs, as well as suggestions for reducing the number of missing/nonreceipt issues. In addition, greater focus was placed on niche reference service supporting news sources and news-related research. Use of the News and Microforms Library has increased.

In 2022, the Publishing House “Pashkov Dom” of the Russian State Library released the bibliographic work “Journal ‘Bibliotekovedenie’: Index of Contents 1952—2021”. The publication was prepared by the Research Department of Bibliography of the Russian State Library for the 70th anniversary of the scientific and practical journal. The article briefly describes all the milestones of the leading professional publication: from the periodical scientific collection “Libraries of the USSR. Work experience” up to the contemporary journal “Bibliotekovedenie”. Materials of the periodical have significant scientific value. The compilers of the bibliographic index ordered and systematized publications, as well as characterized previous similar works — cumulative in-journal indexes of contents and the only index of 1984 until 2022 published by the V.I. Lenin State Library of the USSR. The author highlights the number of differences between the previous indexes dedicated to the journal and the 2022 edition, among them are the completeness of coverage of the material, the structure and methodology of systematization, the availability of reference apparatus, etc. The reference apparatus of the new edition consists of five auxiliary indexes (index of names, personalia, library and information organizations, peer-reviewed publications and library and information serials). The book includes four reference appendices (the list of editors-in-chief, members of the editorial board and the editorial council; bibliographic list of publications about the journal in the professional press; the list of acronyms of library and information organizations; the list of bibliographic sources). In the process of compiling the index, the compilers encountered difficulties at the stage of grouping the material. Over the entire period of the journal existence, publishing standards and drawing up of the publication have changed many times. The compilers executed the painstaking work to identify the authorship of individual publications, as well as the identity in the names of repeatedly renamed library and information organizations, and to reveal data on the personalia mentioned in the articles. The article gives the examples of drawing up of the index. The index of publications of the main professional periodical from 1952 to 2021 reflects the processes of development of science, evolution, transformation of scientific knowledge and makes the basis for the work of researchers at present, being the significant mechanism of scientific activity.

Abstract Background delirium is associated with increased morbidity and mortality among older emergency department (ED) patients. When using physician gestalt, delirium is missed in the majority of patients. The Ottawa 3DY (O3DY) has been validated to detect cognitive dysfunction among older ED patients. Objectives to determine the sensitivity and specificity of serial O3DY assessments to detect delirium in older ED patients. Design a prospective observational multicenter cohort study. Setting four Quebec EDs. Participants independent or semi-independent older patients (age ≥ 65 years) with an ED stay of at least 8 hours that required hospitalisation. Measurements eligible patients were evaluated using serial O3DY assessments at least 6 hours apart. The primary outcome was delirium after at least 8 hours in the ED. The reference standard for delirium assessment was the confusion assessment method (CAM). The sensitivity and specificity of the serial O3DY to detect delirium were calculated. Results we enrolled 301 patients (mean age 77 years, 49.5% male, 3.0% with a history of mild dementia). Thirty patients (10.0%) were CAM positive for delirium. Patients had a median of three O3DY assessments. Serial O3DY evaluations to detect delirium among patients with at least one abnormal O3DY had a sensitivity of 86.7% (95% confidence interval—CI 69.3–96.2%) and a specificity of 44.3% (95%; CI 38.3–50.4%). Conclusion serial O3DY testing demonstrates good sensitivity as a screening tool to detect delirium among older adult patients with prolonged ED lengths of stay. Emergency physicians should consider the use of the serial O3DY over clinician gestalt to improve delirium detection.

Purpose. The reputation of the satirical weekly Iskra is traditionally determined by the political context of the Russian Empire in 1860s. Despite the fact that in the first years of its existence, the publication attracted writers of various fractions, views, and convictions, Iskra was perceived as a radical magazine, “…another department of Sovremennik”. Moreover, Iskra’s defamations and attacks against provincial and capital officials, and writers have become an inte gral part of the everyday life of the 1860s. Individual articles and whole issues have been banned and censored, though this policy only promoted and strengthened the reputation of weekly. Later, reflecting the importance of the magazine, the Soviet literary criticism established a typological relationship between Iskra by Kurochkines brothers and the left-wing newspaper of the same name published by V. I. Lenin at the beginning of the 20th century. This article attempts to reinterpret Iskra, implying a “weakening” of the sociological and political aspects of interpretation in favor of the aesthetic ones.Results. The article put forward a hypothesis that publications such as Charivari, Punch, and Iskra can be considered from perspective of modern discursive practices: post-folklore (the phenomenon of variable text and multiple authorship), post-modernity (discrediting the classical heritage or its carnival rethinking) and post-irony (deconstruction of modern leaders of opinion, self-exposure). Based on the study of prosaic and poetic parodies and satire, graphic texts - cartoons and serials (comics), the author analyzes the specificity of the construction and presentation of Russian reality as an anti-world. The article contains fragments of prose and poetic feuilletons by D. D. Minaev, V. P. Burenin, and M. Stopanovsky, many of which are published for the first time.Conclusion. Iskra as a product of the polemical journalism of the Russian Empire in 1860s displayedan experience of a new aesthetics (a kind of anti-aesthetics), synthesizing schoolchildren (cartoons) and decadent subcultures (Baudelaire translations). Apparently, the 8000 subscribers included not only a radical and democratic reader but also a general audience, equally tired of the official tone of government periodicals and the moralizing of the progressive camp. Demonstrating Russian life as the so-called ‘antiworld’, Iskra proposed a version of “carnival liberation”, which was probably reflected in the poetics of many contemporaries: M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, N. S. Leskov, F. M. Dostoevsky. In this regard, the issue of post-folklore, post-modernism, post-truth, and post-irony on the pages of Iskra rather remained unresolved. However, the change in perspective, it seems to us, enables reinterpretation of the previously collected data, allowing us to give a new interpretation.

When a firm's systems department has insufficient resources to carry out all requested development projects immediately, managers serving on the Data Processing Steering Committee need to decide which project should be completed first, second, third, etc. This can be done by ranking the projects in sequence of a 'priority criterion'. In the past net present value (NPV) was used for this purpose. However, in a small systems department, where projects are carried out in series, NPV is inappropriate. A more accurate measure of priority is a project's 'net worth' divided by its duration.

Abstract INTRODUCTION We compared the incidence of undetectable [below the limit of detection (LoD)], measurable (LoD to 99th percentile), and increased cardiac troponin I (cTnI) concentrations above the 99th percentile between Abbott high-sensitivity cTnI (hs-cTnI) and contemporary cTnI assays in a US emergency department population. METHODS Patients (n = 2100) presenting to the emergency department who had serial cTnI (0, 3, 6, 9 h) measurements ordered on clinical indication were enrolled. Contemporary cTnI [Abbott Architect used clinically; 99th percentile: 0.030 μg/L (30 ng/L)] and hs-cTnI [Abbott investigational; sex-specific 99th percentiles: female (F) 16 ng/L, male (M) 34 ng/L] assays simultaneously measured fresh EDTA plasma. RESULTS The hs-cTnI assay measured fewer undetectable cTnI concentrations compared to the contemporary cTnI assay across baseline (F: 31% vs 47%, M: 22% vs 40%) and serial (F: 21% vs 46%; M: 19% vs 54%) measurements. Conversely, the proportion of measurable cTnI concentrations was higher using hs-cTnI compared to contemporary cTnI assay across both baseline (F: 46% vs 31%; M: 60% vs 33%) and serial (F: 48% vs 28%; M: 83% vs 40%) measurements. The overall proportion of patients with increased cTnI concentrations above the 99th percentile was not significantly different between the contemporary (31%) and hs-cTnI (26%) assays (P = 0.09). CONCLUSIONS In patients presenting to the emergency department, the use of the Abbott hs-cTnI assay provides clinicians with more numeric cTnI concentrations. This occurs via a shift from results below the LoD to those between the LoD and the 99th percentile and does not increase in the number of cTnI concentrations above the 99th percentile.

Abstract Introduction Herein we present details of the standard procedures and operations of the Leukemia Sample Bank (LSB) as a guide to others desiring to establish their own bank. The availability of primary tissue samples to evaluate the molecular biology and pathogenesis of leukemia, as well as to develop and evaluate novel therapeutic strategies, has been instrumental to advances in the leukemia field. The Department of Leukemia at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) improves the treatment of patients with leukemias by providing basic, translational, and clinical scientists access to clinically annotated fresh and frozen primary tissue samples to test and validate their hypotheses. The LSB was created to collect, process, and maintain tissue specimens from patients with known or suspected hematologic malignancies, and also maintains a comprehensive, prospective, interactive database with detailed clinical and pathologic data and facilitates distribution of samples to various investigators. Bank Design and Activity An MDACC protocol was IRB approved in 2001 to facilitate primary leukemia tissue collection, storage, and distribution. The protocol serves as a "front door" consent to the Leukemia Department for approaching all new patients that come to the Leukemia Center. The protocol allows for use of tissue samples for current and future research projects related to researching hematological malignancies. Investigators utilize a separate IRB approved "back door" protocol, with a waiver of consent, to obtain samples for various projects. The LSB protocol thus serves as a single-sign research consent for patients, avoiding consent "fatigue" and ennui. A bank usage committee reviews request for samples and determines which to approve, including collaborations that are intra departmental, intra institution, inter academic institutional and with pharmaceutical institutions. A priority of usage is given to MDACC leukemia department investigators, other academic departments inside and outside MDACC, and finally to pharmaceutical institutions. Our policy is not to release the last vial of material for any particular patient. In the past year, these efforts have resulted in 93% of patients being approached, 82% providing consent, and only 11% declining. While most patients are motivated to consent to help advance research and improve treatments, hematology banks are unique in that they experience barriers to consent that solid tissue banks may not. Once blood and bone marrow samples are obtained, samples are processed per disease specific algorithms on the same day of collection to yield disease enriched material such as DNA, RNA, protein, serum or viable cells. Same day processing removes cryopreservation effects on labile analytes (mRNA, miRNA, protein) that could arise from a freeze thaw cycle. Material is distributed fresh to investigators or cryopreserved for later use. Samples are collected serially at the time of diagnosis, during therapy, in remission, or at relapse. The LSB provides annotated clinical data for any distributed samples. In support of the bank, a database records sample collection and archive details, and provides "chain of custody". A query tool was also developed allows for searching sample inventory by demographic, clinical, and sample characteristics, which also links to the Leukemia Clinical Data Repository (LCDR), to allow for searching of samples by leukemia specific characteristics such as diagnosis, prior treatments, and cytogenetic abnormalities. Results The LSB is one of the world's largest leukemia repositories and serves as a valuable local and national resource. The very high levels of patients consenting to participate make the holdings truly representative of all leukemias. The serial samples collected from patients allow for comparison between diagnosis and relapse states of disease. The ability to provide detailed annotation of clinical, laboratory, and outcome data further increases the value of research done with these samples. The LSB continues to collect valuable samples for use in research related to improving patient outcomes for patients with hematological malignancies. Disclosures No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

This study aimed to analyze the pattern of Indonesian National Qualifications Framework-based curriculum development carried out by 5 best Arabic Language Department (PBA) of undergraduate programs –accredited A- in Indonesia. The method used was qualitative research covering document analysis, interviews, and observations that were applied, and followed by data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results showed that generally, the PBA departments had developed their curriculum by referring to the steps and rules in the KKNI standard. However, the determination of the courses was not carried out in-depth by developing learning outcomes and lesson materials independently, but only by referring to the CPL from the National Standards for Higher Education (SNPT) of the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation (MOEC) No. 49 of 2014, as well as by adjusting the CPL and the lesson materials to existing courses. This was because the PBA study program had difficulties in developing CPL independently. The curriculum structure developed by PBA was based on the serial model curriculum structure where the courses were arranged from the easiest in the first semester to the most difficult one last semester.

Introduction: A rare congenital deformity known as "mirror image polydactyly" of the feet is typified by symmetrical duplication of the foot's digits. According to one study, only 28 cases (seven of which have treatment records) have been described in the English-language literature. Mirror foot can arise as a single congenital defect or a component of a hereditary syndrome involving several congenital defects. In this study, we reported a mirror foot case and emphasized its rarity, unusual presentation, and successful surgical treatment. Case presentation: A 3-month-old female child was born with unilateral mirror image polydactyly of the foot with congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) and congenital genu recurvatum. She was referred to the outpatient clinic of the surgery department of dr. Kariadi General Hospital. In a radiological examination, ten digits and nine metatarsals were found on the left foot. Preaxial duplicates of the first to fourth metatarsals were disarticulated, followed by ablation of five digits. The aim of surgical management for this case was to reconstruct a functional and cosmetically pleasing foot, which will benefit orthopedic surgeons in managing CTEV for serial cast correction. Six months after surgical intervention, the foot showed a satisfactory appearance. However, management of the CTEV was uneventful at the local orthopedic department, and the patient was referred to the pediatric orthopedic center in Jakarta. Conclusion: Incidence of mirror foot is extremely rare, and treatment must be tailored to each individual. Coordination among different departments should be pursued to ensure optimum care for patients.

Abstract Older adults account for 12-24% of all Emergency Department (ED) visits and studies have shown a 25-35% increase in older adult ED visits over time. While some studies have analyzed ED encounters over a single healthcare system, a year or a specific condition, research comparing the long-term frequent use of the ED across cohorts of older adults in the United States is limited. We address this gap by identifying characteristics associated with repeat (>1 visit during the time period) and serial/frequent (>=4/year) ED utilization for Maryland. Using the 2017-2019 State Emergency Department Databases (SEDD), we extracted ED visits among the elderly (>=60 years) population. By applying the modified New York University Algorithm by John Hopkins University (NYU-JHU-EDA), we classified ED visits into 11 categories, and we conducted bivariate and multivariate analyses to identify inter-age variations in the type of visits to the ED across single, repeat and serial users, after controlling for covariates. Of the total 5,331,843 ED visits between 2017 and 2019, 1,244,878 (~23%) were older adult visits. Relative to the 60–69-year-olds, those 80 and above had higher odds of being repeat users for emergent issues [OR=1.34, CI:1.07-1.67], primary-care treatable condition [OR=1.29, CI:1.03-1.62], and severe [1.30, CI: 1.03-1.64] and non-severe injuries [1.61, CI:1.28-2.01]. Relative to 60-69 year olds non-serial users, the oldest cohort demonstrated lower odds for psychiatric/alcohol and drug-related diagnoses [OR=0.63, CI:0.42, 0.95]. Our findings highlight the need to design age-group specific interventions to reduce the frequent ED utilization among the elderly in Maryland.

Background: Evaluation of chest pain patients in emergency departments to distinguish between high-risk patients who require admission and low-risk patients who can be managed as outpatients is a challenging task. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Observation Ward Short Stay Evaluation Service for Chest Pain Protocol to identify and safely discharge low-risk patients with low incidence of major adverse cardiac events within 30 days. Methods: This was a single center prospective observational study, conducted from 1 March 2016 to 31 August 2016 at the Emergency and Trauma Department, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur. Observation Ward Short Stay Evaluation Service for Chest Pain Protocol was used to evaluate patients presented with chest pain or angina equivalents. The components involved Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) score, serial electrocardiograms, high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T, and exercise treadmill test. Low-risk patients were patients with TIMI < 2, normal serial electrocardiogram, high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T ≤ 14 ng/L, and negative exercise treadmill test. If anyone of the components was not fulfilled patients were considered as high risk, and they were either admitted or referred to clinic for further intervention. Low-risk patients were allowed for discharged. All patients were followed-up in 30 days for any incidence of major adverse cardiac events. Results: Totally, 174 patients were studied. Observation Ward Short Stay Evaluation Service for Chest Pain Protocol managed to discharge 102 (58.6%) patients, and 84 (82.4%) of them underwent exercise treadmill test. About 46 (54.8%) patients had negative exercise treadmill test, whereas 38 (45.2%) patients had either positive or inconclusive exercise treadmill test, and they were referred to physician clinic for further cardiac assessment. None of the patients with negative exercise treadmill test developed major adverse cardiac events in 30 days. The sensitivity and the negative predictive value (NPV) of Observation Ward Short Stay Evaluation Service for Chest Pain Protocol were both 100%. Conclusion: Observation Ward Short Stay Evaluation Service for Chest Pain Protocol can be applied in emergency departments to identify and safely discharge patients with low risk of major adverse cardiac events in 30 days.

Background. Early diagnosis of acute kidney injury (AKI) at emergency department (ED) is a challenging issue. Current diagnostic criteria for AKI poorly recognize early renal dysfunction and may cause delayed diagnosis. We evaluated the use of serum cystatin C (CysC) for the early and accurate diagnosis of AKI in patients hospitalized from the ED.Methods. In a total of 198 patients (105 males and 93 females), serum CysC, serum creatinine (sCr), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were calculated at 0, 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 hours after presentation to the ED. We compared two groups according to the presence or absence of AKI.Results. Serial assessment of CysC, sCr, and eGFR was not a strong, reliable tool to distinguish AKI from non-AKI. CysC > 1.44 mg/L at admission, both alone (Odds Ratio = 5.04; 95%CI 2.20–11.52;P<0.0002) and in combination with sCr and eGFR (Odds Ratio = 5.71; 95%CI 1.86–17.55;P<0.002), was a strong predictor for the risk of AKI.Conclusions. Serial assessment of CysC is not superior to sCr and eGFR in distinguishing AKI from non-AKI. Admission CysC, both alone and in combination with sCr and eGFR, could be considered a powerful tool for the prediction of AKI in ED patients.

Context and objective. The pancreas being a deep organ, its clinical exploration is sometimes limited and inefficient. The diagnosis of pancreatic pathologies is mainly based on the dosage of pancreatic enzymes (lipasemia in particular) and medical imaging. The objective of the present study was to describe the scanographic profile of pancreatic tumors in 3 radiology departments in Kinshasa. Methods. It was a retrospective serial case study conducted in 3 radiology departments in Kinshasa from January 2016 to June 2021, having retained 86 reports of abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan of patients with pancreatic pathology. Results. 66 cases of pancreatic tumors were involved. Male patients were predominant (sex-ratio M/F=1.6) and the mean age of 55.7 ± 14.7 years (range: 16 to 92 years). Cholestasis syndrome (50 %) and abdominal (epigastric) pain were the most common indications. In tumors, the contours were lobulated (56.1 %). The Wirsung duct was dilated in most tumors. The tumors were resectable in 26 % of cases. Conclusion. The abdominal CT-scan contributes to the diagnosis of pancreatic pathologies. These pathologies mostly affect male elderly subjects, are predominantly tumoral and generally diagnosed in late unresectable stage.
