Given its role as a constant companion, the mobile phone has long been thought of as an extension of the self. However, the psychology of smartphone self-extension has received relatively little attention through empirical research. By explicating theorized facets of self-extension, we explore the dimensionality of smartphone self-extension and examine how established psychological orientations map onto these dimensions. Results provide support for a two-dimensional structure of self-extension. Specifically, we found that self-extension can be delineated on the extent to which the smartphone is viewed as (a) functional for personal goals and (b) integral to personal identity. Across two studies, habitual usage predicted the functionality dimension and problematic usage predicted the identity dimension. In addition, Study 2 revealed that the two dimensions of self-extension corresponded to different dimensions of smartphone vigilance. We discuss the importance of conceptualizing smartphone self-extension as a perceptual construct, as well as the challenges of measuring the psychological connection that exists – or is thought to exist – between self and phone.

The advancement of agriculture sector in one region cannot be separated from the role of agricultural extension in the region. To cover the deficiency of agricultural extension agents, self-supporting extension agents are recruited from farmers or private parties. This study aims to analyze the role of self-supporting instructors in improving farmer institutions and analyze factors related to the role of self-supporting extension agents in improving farmer institutions. This research was a qualitative descriptive study, and it was conducted in West Pasaman and Sijunjung Regency with a sample of 38 people. The results showed that self-supporting instructors play a significant role in improving farmer institutions; this is seen from 78% of self-supporting extension agents have a role in increasing farmer institutions. Factors related to the role of self-supporting extension agents in improving farmer institutions are (1) the age of agents, (2) the number of partners from farmer groups, and (3) the frequency of training attended by self-supporting extension agents. To increase the role of self-extension extension agents in the institutional development of farmers, it is recommended that institutions who manage the agricultural extension recruit self-supporting extension agents from the millennial generation and facilitate self-supporting extension agents to be able to participate in training related to farming in the agent's area of work.

This paper focuses on the blurring boundary between the “human self” and the smartphone, using interviews with 60 heavy smartphone users. The interview responses reveal three types of self-extension via the smartphone— functional extension, anthropomorphic extension, and ontological extension. Smartphone users assert that their phone has become an indispensable part of their self and thus influences their identity and sense of being in both positive and negative ways.

<p><strong>English</strong><br />Involvement of farmers as actors to support extension activities have been underway for a long time with various approaches. In Indonesia, it started from the involvement of Kontak Tani (Advanced Farmers) in Supra Insus era, then farmer to farmer extension at P4S, as well as Penyuluh Swakarsa (Independent Extension Workers)” (in 2004), and the latest is Penyuluh Swadaya (Self-Help Agricultural Extension Workers) since 2008. The existence of self-help farmer extension workers are recognized since the enactment of Law No. 16/2006 on Extension System of Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries. However, even though it runs nearly 10 years, the development of the role of self-help farmer extension workers is not optimal. This paper is a review of various posts including the recent research on self-help farmer extension workers and it aims to study the potential and problems of self-help farmer extension workers. It shows that the self-help farmer extension workers have a self-help capabilities and distinctive social position and they have to get right role. Appropriate support should be given to self-help farmer extension workers as the agricultural extension worker in the future and it must be distinguished between the government and private extension workers.

Vaname household agri-fishery (RTVE) is a vaname shrimp farming activity undertaken in pool tarps. One of shrimp farmers, who are successful in this business and are now being self-help instructors in collaboration with the government owned fishing instructors to promote these activities, are the shrimp farmers in Kwanyar Sub-district of Bangkalan. This research was aimed to explain : (1) the implementation of extension practices in Vaname Fisheries, (2) the role of extension agents, and (3) the problems during extension practices. This research used qualitative method by using the data analysis model proposed by Miles and Huberman. The results shows : (1) There are differences on extension implementation between PNS and self-help-instructor agents. Equipments, evaluation system, and extension methods are the different aspects of extension implementation. (2) the PNS agents have an optimal role as an instructor and analyst. However, the self-help instructor has an optimal role as instrutor, facilitator, motivator, advisor, surveyor and organizer. (3) the obstacle and problems which were faced by PNS and self-help-instructor are also different. PNS extension agents have much problems in technical terms such as distance, time, facility, extension agents and knowledge problems. Otherwise, self-help-instrucor faced problems especially in human error and outside interventionKeywords: Instructors, Shrimp farmers, Vaname household agri-fishery (RTVE)

Agricultural extension is perceived only to achieve production targets and technology transfer. The limited number of extension workers further adds to the ongoing problem of agricultural extension. The government has begun to seek to increase the workforce of extension workers by involving independent and private extension workers. The Brenjonk community is an example of an organic farmer group that was built by self-help extension workers. The limited funds and the independent extension workers involved are the main obstacles in the extension process. This study will analyze the role of self-help extension workers as well as efforts to increase changes in the behavior of housewives. The method used is descriptive qualitative and Spearman rank correlation analysis. The results of this study indicate that self-help extension workers have performed their roles as facilitators, mediators, dynamists, and mediators. Housewives have been able to apply organic vegetable cultivation on their land because it has become a habit. The recommended extension model to improve the behavior of housewives is to involve them in discussion activities with extension workers, increase the number of stakeholders involved in counseling, increase the use of local resources, and increase the assistance of housewives

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to propose and empirically test a framework encompassing self-congruity with its antecedents and consequences. This study also aims to test the mediating role of perceived value and its dimensions.Design/methodology/approachA questionnaire-based survey was conducted using a purposive sampling technique. In total, 310 useable responses were collected and data were analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling.FindingsA majority of hypotheses were supported. Avoidance of similarity and status consumption positively influenced self-congruity, replicating an earlier study. Self-congruity positively influenced overall perceived value and its dimensions, as well as revisit intention. Overall perceived value and its dimensions positively influenced revisit intention. Finally, overall perceived value and its dimensions were found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between self-congruity and revisit intention.Originality/valueThis study provides empirical evidence for the antecedents and consequences of self-congruity with a service and expands understanding of the mediating role of overall perceived value and its dimensions in predicting intention.

This paper explores self as a site of consumption. Arguing that most views of self are caught in a production metaphor, the paper goes on to suggest that the limitations to Mary Douglas's theory of consumption lies in its lack of theorizing in terms of consumption of self. The paper then examines the notions of extension and exchange as they have been elaborated by Marilyn Strathern. Pointing out that there can be no ‘return’ from extension to a core self, merely exchange to another configuration, the paper illustrates how appropriation of artefacts makes possible performance on a scale. When the ‘inner’ life of a person which is opposed to the externality of the social life is exalted, when the individual is called upon to return to himself, in order to become emancipated from pressure, briefly, when the ‘social I’ is characterized as the ‘superficial I’, as opposed to the ‘profound V … a flagrant error of analysis is committed.

It is shown that the noncommutativity in quantum Hall system may get modified. The self-adjoint extension of the corresponding Hamiltonian leads to a family of noncommutative geometry labeled by the self-adjoint extension parameters. We explicitly perform an exact calculation using a singular interaction and show that, when projected to a certain Landau level, the emergent noncommutative geometries of the projected coordinates belong to a one-parameter family. There is a possibility of obtaining the filling fraction of fractional quantum Hall effect by suitably choosing the value of the self-adjoint extension parameter.

This study was conducted to analyze the perception of the rural woman about credit oriented self-help group in Delta State, Nigeria. A sample size of 110 respondents was used for the study and data were collected from them with the use of structured interview schedule and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear regression equation model as the lead equation. It was revealed that the women farmers subscribed to self-help groups in order to be able to have access to credit (mean = 3.78), information (mean = 3.55), extension services (mean = 3.45). The respondents were satisfied with their respective self-help groups. However, they had some challenges such as inadequate access to extension services (mean = 3.55) and lack of commitment by the leaders (mean = 3.22) and members (mean = 3.19). Educational level and frequency of extension contact of the respondents were found to influence their perception on self-help groups at 5% level of significance. It is recommended that governmental and non-governmental organizations, and university agricultural extension departments should carry out a campaign on workshops for these groups on commitment and extension agencies should diversify their focus to include selfhelp groups and activities.

Abstract Research on temporal comparison has shown that people dissociate themselves from their past to attain a positive self view. Social comparison research has demonstrated that the distinctness of contextually activated information determines whether a recalled self exerts assimilation or contrast effects on the current self. However, hardly any study addressed individual differences. Also, very little is known about whether the ease or difficulty to date past events and experiences influences current self-judgments. We present a new scale capturing the degree of the current self time extension. Three studies support the notion that temporal self-extension determines how past selves are accessed and processed, regarding both the abstractness with which self-knowledge is retrieved and the experienced temporal distance to the past. These findings have important implications for temporal as well as social comparison processes.

Abstract This study was conducted to analyze the internal factors that affect the competence and performance of self-support agricultural extension agents in Serang City. The study was designed as explanatory research, which explains the variables’ position and the causal relationship between variables with a quantitative approach using Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis. Data collection was carried out from April to June 2021 with 34 respondents. The types of data collected were primary and secondary data. The data scale in this study was in the form of ratio data for internal factor variables and ordinal data for competence and performance variables. Based on the data processing results on the performance model of self-support agricultural extension agents in Serang City, it can be concluded that internal factors have a significant direct influence on competence with an influence value of 0.354. Internal factors also significantly influence the performance of self-support agricultural extension agents either directly with a value of 0.297 or indirectly through the competence variable with a value of 0.223. Competence also has a significant effect on performance, with a value of 0.631. Internal factors include training, experience, cosmopolitanism, and social status aspects. Competence must be enhanced to increase the performance of self-supporting agricultural educators. Competence of self-support agricultural teachers refers to the ability and capacity of self-support agricultural instructors to perform their duties. Enhancing the competence and performance of self-supporting agricultural extension workers can be accomplished by boosting their internal factors such as training, experience, and global exposure through training, internships, courses, and coordination meetings. Meanwhile, when recruiting independent agricultural extension workers, socioeconomic status might be considered.

Cyber extension web facilitates agriculture extension staffs to leverage this media communication system to strengthen their capability and capacity for improving extension services. Through the Technology Acceptance Model approach, this study examines the use of cyber extension and the affect of self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norms, and attitude toward usage on cyber extension usage by agriculture extension staffs in Central Java Province. This study was conducted from April to May 2023 using a quantitative approach. The population includes agriculture extension staffs within the scope of the Central Java Provincial Agriculture Office. Sampling was done using convenience sampling, with 377 agriculture extension staffs spreading across 28 districts and five cities. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The study showed that use of the cyber extension web can be categorized as low-level; meanwhile, self-efficacy, perceived ease of use, subjective norms, and attitudes towards positive use were relatively high. Cyber extension usage was directly affected by perceived ease of use, subjective norms, and attitude toward usage. As a recommendation, interventions are needed to improve and continue to update content variations. It is necessary to develop and optimize the use of cyber extension at the provincial and or district level.

The role of agricultural extension workers is very much needed to guide farmers so they can adopt technology and facilitate the growth and development of farmer institutions. However, agricultural extension institutions have faced uncertainty and have even lost direction since the Regional Government issued Law No. 23/2014. Agricultural extension workers no longer have an agricultural extension-coordinating agency; therefore, supervision and guidance do not function properly. As a result, the performance of agricultural extension experiences stagnation. This study aims to formulate alternative agricultural extension policies after the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 35/2022 on Strengthening the Function of Agricultural Extension. The analysis method used a literature review approach. Based on the study results, it is necessary to derive policies that provide synergy between the centre and regions to support strengthening agricultural extension toward national rice self-sufficiency. If agricultural extension activities run according to their duties and functions, they can increase rice productivity by 29−33%. Recommended policy alternatives: (1) strengthening coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and agricultural extension institutions at the provincial, district/city, and sub-district levels; (2) refocusing agricultural extension programs and activities; and (3) strengthening the agricultural extension budget through an assistance task mechanism.

Public Extension services remain the repository and main source of agricultural information for smallholder farmers in developing countries. Their role includes linking farmers to relevant institutes and disseminating research-based knowledge and technology to rural people with the aim of improving their livelihoods. Extension officers disseminate information about new innovative techniques to crop and livestock farmers and related production and management practices leading to the improved socio-economic status of the rural communities. Despite this and farmers having access to extension services, smallholder farming appears to be struggling to meet the rural population's daily food and employment needs. Moreover, empirical and detailed evidence of the contribution and effect of extension services toward sustainable farmer livelihoods remains scanty in the Eastern Cape province, South Africa. Therefore, the study sought to investigate the contribution and impact of extension services toward sustainable livelihoods and self-reliance in Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. The study used a multi-stage sampling procedure to collect data from 258 smallholder farmers using a semi-structured questionnaire. Binary Logistic regression and Propensity score matching was used for analysis. The study results showed that most respondents were females with an average age of 47 years and twelve years of farming experience. Moreover, the results show that farmers had ten years of schooling and operated on average farm sizes of 3 ha. The findings also indicated that farmers had access to extension services and were members of farm organizations contributing to their farming and building self-resilience. Farmers also indicated that financial support, distance to market outlets, and lack of transportation were among the challenges threatening their livelihood. Binary logistic regression showed that age, years spent in school, off-farm income, and farm size affected farmers’ access to extension services. Propensity Score Matching results showed that farmers with access to extension services had better sustainable livelihoods and self-reliance than farmers without access. The study concludes that extension services have a positive effect on the sustainable livelihood of farmers. The study recommends that governments and NGOs invest more in agricultural extension officers for farmers to reach their farming potential and ensure sustained livelihoods and self-reliance. The research was conducted in the Nalgonda district of Telangana state with the aim of assessing the job competence and job satisfaction of Agricultural Extension Officers. A total of 120 Agricultural Extension Officers were selected for the study from different Mandals within Nalgonda district. Data was collected to analyse the profile and job competence levels of agricultural extension officers. Two rating techniques were employed in evaluating the job competence level of agricultural extension officers which were Self-rating and Superior rating. The study results revealed that 55.84% of Agricultural Extension Officers rated themselves that they had a medium level of job competence, while in case of superior rating, 57.50% of Agricultural Extension Officers had medium level of competence at a similar level. The overall finding on job competence indicated that 65% of agricultural extension officers were at a medium level of competence. In terms of Self-rating, agricultural extension officers demonstrated higher competence in communicative ability, initiative, empathy, and technical knowledge dimensions with a mean index. On the other hand, according to Superior rating, agriculture extension officers exhibited greater competence in initiative, communicative ability, empathy, and judgement dimensions with the mean index. The study emphasizes exploring job competence levels, various competence dimensions, and the relationship of independent variables with job competence among agricultural extension officers.

Let F/E be a finite Galois extension of fields with abelian Galois group Γ. A self-dual normal basis for F/E is a normal basis with the additional property that Tr F/E(g(x), h(x)) = δg, h for g, h ∈ Γ. Bayer-Fluckiger and Lenstra have shown that when char (E) ≠ 2, then F admits a self-dual normal basis if and only if [F : E] is odd. If F/E is an extension of finite fields and char (E) = 2, then F admits a self-dual normal basis if and only if the exponent of Γ is not divisible by 4. In this paper, we construct self-dual normal basis generators for finite extensions of finite fields whenever they exist. Now let K be a finite extension of ℚp, let L/K be a finite abelian Galois extension of odd degree and let [Formula: see text] be the valuation ring of L. We define AL/K to be the unique fractional [Formula: see text]-ideal with square equal to the inverse different of L/K. It is known that a self-dual integral normal basis exists for AL/K if and only if L/K is weakly ramified. Assuming p ≠ 2, we construct such bases whenever they exist.

The effects of vacuum polarization associated with a massless scalar field near pointlike source with a zero-range potential in three spatial dimensions are analyzed. The “physical” approach consists in the usage of direct delta-potential as a model of pointlike interaction. We use the Perturbation theory in the Fourier space with dimensional regularization of the momentum integrals. In the weak-field approximation, we compute the effects of interest. The “mathematical” approach implies the self-adjoint extension technique. In the Quantum-Field-Theory framework we consider the massless scalar field in a 3-dimensional Euclidean space with an extracted point. With appropriate boundary conditions it is considered an adequate mathematical model for the description of a pointlike source. We compute the renormalized vacuum expectation value ⟨ϕ2(x)⟩ren of the field square and the renormalized vacuum averaged of the scalar-field’s energy-momentum tensor ⟨Tμν(x)⟩ren. For the physical interpretation of the extension parameter we compare these results with those of perturbative computations. In addition, we present some general formulae for vacuum polarization effects at large distances in the presence of an abstract weak potential with finite-sized compact support.
