Object The conceptual division of intracranial arteries into segments provides a better understanding of their courses and a useful working vocabulary. Segmental anatomy of cerebral arteries is commonly cited by a numerical nomenclature, but an analogous nomenclature for cerebellar arteries has not been described. In this report, the microsurgical anatomy of the cerebellar arteries is reviewed, and a numbering system for cerebellar arteries is proposed. Methods Cerebellar arteries were designated by the first letter of the artery's name in lowercase letters, distinguishing them from cerebral arteries with the same first letter of the artery's name. Segmental anatomy was numbered in ascending order from proximal to distal segments. Results The superior cerebellar artery was divided into 4 segments: s1, anterior pontomesencephalic segment; s2, lateral pontomesencephalic segment; s3, cerebellomesencephalic segment; and s4, cortical segment. The anterior inferior cerebellar artery was divided into 4 segments: a1, anterior pontine segment; a2, lateral pontine segment; a3, flocculopeduncular segment; and a4, cortical segment. The posterior inferior cerebellar artery was divided into 5 segments: p1, anterior medullary segment; p2, lateral medullary segment; p3, tonsillomedullary segment; p4, telovelotonsillar segment; and p5, cortical segment. Conclusions The proposed nomenclature for segmental anatomy of cerebellar artery complements established nomenclature for segmental anatomy of cerebral arteries. This nomenclature is simple, easy to learn, and practical. The nomenclature localizes distal cerebellar artery aneurysms and also localizes an anastomosis or describes a graft's connections to donor and recipient arteries. These applications of the proposed nomenclature with cerebellar arteries mimic the applications of the established nomenclature with cerebral arteries.

The purpose of this research is to analyze segment policies applied by association companies, and investigate if such application is in accordance with PSAK No. 5. Generally companies ' segments are consisted of business and geographical segments. The business segment is divided based into products and services. Mean while, the geographical segment is based on its operating regions. The form of its report is consisted ofsegmented income statement, segmented assets and liabilities, reconciled total revenue, and other material elements between the segment and entities. The result show that most associated companies run their operating segmen based on business and geographic, and not every companies disclose them in accordance with PSAK No. 5. Kata kunci: Business Segment, Geographical Segment, Operating Segment

If costal and crural diaphragm segments can perform as separate muscles, then CO2-stimulated ventilation may elicit differential segmental function. We studied diaphragm segmental length, shortening, and electromyogram (EMG) activity in 10 awake dogs chronically implanted with sonomicrometer transducers and EMG electrodes. During CO2 rebreathing, segmental shortening and EMG activity per whole tidal breath progressively increased, but segmental responses could not be differentiated at any level of CO2. With increasing CO2, resting end-expiratory length of both diaphragm segments increased. During the complete intrabreath inspiratory-expiratory cycle, costal and crural diaphragm revealed distinctive segmental function. At rest, crural shortening exceeded costal shortening in earliest inspiration, costal and especially crural shortening persisted into early expiration, and EMG activity of the crural segment was greater than that of the costal segment in earliest inspiration and showed more end-inspiratory/early expiratory [post-inspiratory inspiratory activity (PIIA)] activity. During CO2-stimulated breathing, neither segment shortened during the inspiratory flow of earliest inspiration. During CO2 rebreathing, shortening of the crural segment exceeded that of the costal segment during early inspiration and outlasted costal shortening during expiration; for both segments, shortening persisted after termination of inspiratory airflow. With increased CO2, EMG activity of the crural segment preceded that of the costal segment in earliest inspiration and was dominant into expiration, whereas costal EMG activity terminated abruptly with inspiratory flow. Thus, costal EMG PIIA was not evident during hypercapnia, whereas crural EMG PIIA was significant.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

ABSTRAKPerkerasan merupakan salah satu komponen prasarana pada kegiatan logging yang harus didesain agar dapat melayani lalu-lintas kendaraan berat. Metode Austroads 2006 dan Bina Marga 2017 merupakan panduan dalam perencanaan tebal perkerasan jalan logging. Studi kasus untuk penelitian ini dilakukan di Kabupaten Penajam, Kalimantan Timur. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh dari konsultan perencana, niilai CBR pada ruas jalan rencana dibagi menjadi empat segmen dengan nilai CBR pada segmen 1 = 3%, segmen 2 = 9%, segmen 3 = 29% dan segmen 4 = 9%. Perencanaan dilakukan dengan umur rencana 10 tahun dan tingkat pertumbuhan 3%. Jenis perkerasan yang digunakan untuk kedua metode berupa batu pecah. Hasil perencanaan tebal perkerasan menggunakan metode Austroads 2006 untuk segmen 1 = 480 mm, segmen 2 = 320 mm, segmen 3 = 160 mm dan segmen 4 = 320 mm. Hasil perencanaan tebal perkerasan menggunakan metode Bina Marga 2017 untuk segmen 1 = 480 mm, segmen 2 = 260 mm, segmen 3 = 140 mm dan segmen 4 = 260 mm.Kata kunci: perencanaan tebal perkerasan jalan logging ABSTRACTPavement is one of the infrastructure components in logging activities that must be designed in order to serve heavy vehicle traffic. Austroads 2006 method and Bina Marga 2017 methodis a guide to design the thickness of logging pavement. Case study for this research was conducted in Penajam District, East Kalimantan. Based on the data obtained from the planner consultant, the CBR value on the road plan is divided into four segments with CBR value in segment 1 = 3%, segment 2 = 9%, segment 3 = 29% and segment 4 = 9%. The planning is done with 10 years and 3% growth rate. Types of pavement used for both methods is granular. The results of pavement thickness planning using Austroads 2006 method for segment 1 = 480 mm, segment 2 = 320 mm, segment 3 = 160 mm and segment 4 = 320 mm. The results of pavement thickness planning using Bina Marga 2017 method for segment 1 = 480 mm, segment 2 = 260 mm, segment 3 = 140 mm and segment 4 = 260 mm.Keywords: thickness design of pavement logging

Somite formation involves the establishment of a segmental prepattern in the presomitic mesoderm, anteroposterior patterning of each segmental primordium and formation of boundaries between adjacent segments. How these events are co-ordinated remains uncertain. In this study, analysis of expression of zebrafish mesp-a reveals that each segment acquires anteroposterior regionalisation when located in the anterior presomitic mesoderm. Thus anteroposterior patterning is occurring after the establishment of a segmental prepattern in the paraxial mesoderm and prior to somite boundary formation. Zebrafish fss(−), bea(−), des(−) and aei(−) embryos all fail to form somites, yet we demonstrate that a segmental prepattern is established in the presomitic mesoderm of all these mutants and hox gene expression shows that overall anteroposterior patterning of the mesoderm is also normal. However, analysis of various molecular markers reveals that anteroposterior regionalisation within each segment is disturbed in the mutants. In fss(−), there is a loss of anterior segment markers, such that all segments appear posteriorized, whereas in bea(−), des(−) and aei(−), anterior and posterior markers are expressed throughout each segment. Since somite formation is disrupted in these mutants, correct anteroposterior patterning within segments may be a prerequisite for somite boundary formation. In support of this hypothesis, we show that it is possible to rescue boundary formation in fss(−) through the ectopic expression of EphA4, an anterior segment marker, in the paraxial mesoderm. These observations indicate that a key consequence of the anteroposterior regionalisation of segments may be the induction of Eph and ephrin expression at segment interfaces and that Eph/ephrin signalling subsequently contributes to the formation of somite boundaries.

The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) is committed to improve their standards’ quality, which is the global accounting standards that reflect information in financial statements as transparent and comparable for public purposes. The International Accounting Standards (IAS) and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) provide guidelines in creating and interpreting companies’ financial statements (Iatridis & Dalla, 2011). The purpose of this research was to assess the impact of the application of PSAK 5 (revised 2009). PSAK 5 (revised 2009) requires segment disclosure based on the internal reporting reviewed by the operation decision maker. PSAK 5 (revised 2000) requires companies to disclose segments information based on the format of the primary and secondary segments as identified per products / services that generate the same level of risk and return. The six analytical frameworks developed for this research, namely: (1) analysis of the presentation of segment information based on PSAK 5 (revised 2000) versus PSAK 5 (revised 2009), (2) analysis of the determination and identification of operational decision-making, (3) the analysis of the definition and identification operating segments between industry sectors, (4) analysis of segment aggregation, (5) analysis of determination of the reportable segments, and (6) analysis of reported segment disclosures. In conclusion, generally, the disclosure of segment information based on PSAK 5 (revised 2009) by using the management approach yields a more complete segment report, by conveying more relevant segmental information from the standpoint of management's internal performance than the previous standard, which was PSAK 5 (revised 2000).  This research found significant changes related to an increase in the disclosure of segment disclosure in business segments, segment aggregation, and basic information on company's segmental performance measurement in Indonesia.

The aim of this investigation was to determine the contractile properties of motor units within 3 segments of the gluteus maximus utilizing a laser-based mechanomyographic (MMG) technique. The intention was to determine whether there were segmental differences in motor unit contractile properties and whether these differences may be related to the muscle segment's function and its fibre type composition. Ten subjects were recruited from the student population at the University of Wollongong. Maximal percutaneous neuromuscular stimulation (PNS) was delivered to the medial and lateral portions of three (cranial, middle, caudal) muscle segments of the gluteus maximus by an MMG stimulator. An MMG laser sensor measured the lateral displacement of the muscle segment belly resulting from the development of maximal isometric tension. Parameters characterizing the MMG waveforms were statistically compared to determine variations in contractile properties both within (medial to lateral) and between segments. Our results indicated that the contractile properties of motor units varied significantly (p < 0.05) between, but not within (medial to lateral), the three segments of the gluteus maximus. Most the gluteus maximus. Most notably, segment contraction time (t c ) decreased significantly (p < 0.05) in a cranio to caudal direction suggesting a variation in muscle fibre type composition within the three segments of the muscle. Even when corrected for differences in muscle belly displacement between subjects, the cranial segment was found to have a significantly (p < 0.05) longer contraction time than the two more caudal segments. The results suggest that the gluteus maximus was composed of muscle segments that were physiologically, as well as anatomically, designed to fulfil particular roles during everyday motor tasks. Based upon these results, the MMG technique appears to have considerable utility for the non-invasive assessment of muscle segment contractile properties for both laboratory and clinical applications.

The purpose of this study is to examine what extent of disclosure segmental reporting after IFRS convergence in Indonesia. The great value of this study is highlighted by the effort to empirically investigate the beginning impact of segmental disclosure standard to segment number. Descriptive analysis was used to describe changes of Line Of Business (LOB) segment, geographical segment, level of specificity number. The study consist of 32 Multinational company that listing in Indonesian Stock Exchange (ISE) at 2012-2017. Thus result show that number and types of segments reported decrease 4% for LOB and 2% for geographic segment and using more disaggregated at geographic level. Those findings about changing can help to lead an insight of segmental disclosure implementation in the future.

Segmentation in the leech embryo is established by a stereotyped cell lineage. Each of the 32 segments arises from homologous, bilaterally symmetrical complements of mesodermal and ectodermal blast cell clones. Although segments are homologous, they are regionally differentiated along the longitudinal body axis. Various segments display idiosyncratic ensembles of features, which constitute discrete segmental identities. The differentiation of segment-specific features, such as the mesoderm-derived nephridia, genital primordia and identified Small Cardioactive Peptide immunoreactive neurons, reflects a diversification of the developmental fates of homologous blast cell clones. We have investigated whether segment-specific differentiation of homologous mesodermal blast cell clones depends on cell-intrinsic mechanisms (based on the cells' lineage history) or on cell-extrinsic mechanisms (based on the cells' interactions with their environment) in embryos of Theromyzon rude. For this purpose, we first mapped the segment-specific fates of individual mesodermal blast cell clones, and then induced mesodermal clones to take part in the formation of segments for which they are not normally destined. Two types of ectopic segmental position were produced: one in which a mesodermal blast cell clone was out of register with all other consegmental cells and one in which a mesodermal blast cell clone was out of register with its overlying ectoderm, but was in normal register with the mesoderm and ectoderm on the other side of the embryo. Mesodermal blast cell clones that developed in either type of ectopic segmental position gave rise to segment-specific features characteristic of their original segmental fates rather than their ectopic positions. Thus, the development of segmental identity in the leech mesoderm is attributable to a cell-intrinsic mechanism and, either before or soon after their birth, mesodermal blast cells are autonomously committed to segment-specific fates.

Objective Each pulmonary segment is an anatomical and functional unit. However, it is fundamentally difficult to precisely distinguish every pulmonary segment using the conventional pulmonary intersegmental planes from computed tomography images. Building arteriopulmonary segments is likely to be an effective way to identify pulmonary segments. Methods The thoracic computed tomography images of 40 patients were collected. The anatomic structures of interest were extracted in the transverse, sagittal, and coronal planes using the semi-automated segmentation tools provided by Amira software. The intrapulmonary vessels were subsequently segmented and reconstructed. The distributions of the pulmonary arteries, veins, and bronchi were observed. In patients with pulmonary masses, the mass was also reconstructed. Results The three-dimensional reconstructed images showed the branches of the pulmonary artery ramified up to their eighth order covering the entire lung as well as evident intersegmental gaps without pulmonary arteries. The segmental artery was closely accompanied by the segmental bronchi in 486 pulmonary segments (90% of total number of segments). The size and spatial location of the pulmonary mass within a pulmonary segment were also clearly visible. Conclusions Demarcation of arteriopulmonary segments can be used to precisely distinguish every pulmonary segment and provide its detailed anatomical structure before pulmonary segmentectomy.

O'Hearn, Reynolds and Yang introduced local Hoare reasoning about mutable data structures using separation logic. They reason about the local parts of the memory accessed by programs, and thus construct their smallest complete specifications. Gardner et al. generalised their work, using context logic to reason about structured data at the same level of abstraction as the data itself. In particular, we developed a formal specification of the Document Object Model (DOM), a W3C XML update library. Whilst we kept to the spirit of local reasoning, we were not able to retain small specifications for all of the commands of DOM: for example, our specification of the appendChild command was not small. We show how to obtain such small specifications by developing a more fine-grained context structure, allowing us to work with arbitrary segments of a data structure. We introduce segment logic, a logic for reasoning about such segmented data structures, staring at first with a simple tree structure, but then showing how to generalise our approach to arbitrary structured data. Using our generalised segment logic we construct a reasoning framework for abstract program modules, showing how to reason about such modules at the client level. In particular we look at modules for trees, lists, heaps and the more complex data model of DOM. An important part of any abstraction technique is an understanding of how to link the abstraction back to concrete implementations. Building on our previous abstraction and refinement work for local reasoning, we show how to soundly implement the segment models used in our abstract reasoning. In particular we show how to implement our fine-grained list and tree modules so that their abstract specifications are satisfied by the concrete implementations. We also show how our reasoning from the abstract level can be translated to reasoning at the concrete level. Finally, we turn our attention to concurrency and show how having genuine small axioms for our commands allows for a simple treatment of abstract level concurrency constructs.

Here I try to reveal old age as a period of building yourself. To do that, I make use of the approach on the transformations in the course of contemporary life, the values, representations and practices related to aging women. The central hypothesis of this paper is to present the experiences of aging women which are marked by processes of individualization, inexhaustible even with advancing age and showing that old age can be experienced as a phase of life in which it is building itself. I seek to understand, in this paper, as sociocultural and historical processes are updated in daily practices of the ladies and popular middle segments of our society, conceiving "ladies individualized." I start the assumptions that the individualization phenomenon constitutes a global trend in our society and that the possibility of joint relational and individualistic ideals is present both in the life experiences of individuals from middle segments, as the popular segments. In the case of research conducted for this thesis these individuals are respectively represented by elderly women living in the neighborhood of Bancários, and the community of Timbo in the city of João Pessoa. Because these joints are present in the daily lives of these women and how they present themselves in the course of their lives are questions that guided my thinking. I do not intend here to define how individualization process between older women and middle popular segments work, before long to discuss possibilities of processes of individualization and women from both of them reflect on the variations of the experiences of women aged above 60 as on their identities and representations of aging. The empirical data used in this thesis were qualitatively selected and come from direct observations, semi-structured interviews and stories of life trajectories, collected from 13 women aged between 60 and 70 years old. Seven of these women inhabit in Bancários, and the other in the community of Timbó. The characterization of these women, as belonging to the middle and popular segments, not only did so from the point of view of the place they occupy in the production structure. I analyze elements together as living space, conditions and styles of consumption, income and education, practices and habits of everyday life, trying to take into account concepts and tools to reflect both the objective aspects as those built to the level of culture. Were taken as the object of investigation the particular experiences of these women and sought to situate them in a spatial and temporal context, which includes not only their livelihoods but also the social interactions with other significant actors, capable of interfering in their social practices and daily experiences. Este trabalho tem como objetivo refletir sob uma perspectiva comparativa de classe os processos femininos de individualização presentes nas vivências de mulheres idosas pertencentes aos segmentos médios e populares da cidade de João Pessoa. Aqui procuro revelar a velhice como um período de construção de si mesmo. Para tanto lanço mão da abordagem sobre as transformações no curso da vida contemporâneo, nos valores, nas representações e nas práticas relacionadas a velhice feminina. A hipótese central deste trabalho é que as vivências atuais da velhice feminina são marcadas por processos de individualização, inesgotáveis mesmo com o avanço da idade e reveladores de que a velhice pode ser experimentada como uma fase da vida em que cabe a construção de si mesmo. Busco compreender, neste trabalho, como processos históricos e socioculturais se atualizam nas práticas cotidianas de senhoras dos segmentos médios e populares de nossa sociedade, concebendo senhoras individualizadas . Parto dos pressupostos de que o fenômeno da individualização se constitui numa tendência global e que em nossa sociedade a possibilidade de articulações dos ideais individualistas e relacionais se faz presente tanto nas experiências de vida dos indivíduos dos segmentos médios, quanto dos segmentos populares. No caso da pesquisa desenvolvida para esta tese estes indivíduos são respectivamente representados pelas mulheres idosas residentes no bairro de Bancários, e na comunidade do Timbó. Como essas articulações se fazem presentes no cotidiano dessas mulheres e como elas se apresentam no curso de suas vidas são questões que nortearam minha reflexão. Não pretendo aqui definir como se dão os processos de individualização entre mulheres idosas dos segmentos médios e populares, antes almejo discutir possibilidades de processos femininos de individualização e a partir deles refletir tanto sobre as variações das vivências de mulheres com idade acima de 60 anos, quanto sobre suas identidades e representações sobre envelhecimento. Os elementos empíricos utilizados nesta tese foram qualitativamente selecionados e são provenientes de observações diretas, entrevistas semi estruturadas e relatos de trajetórias de vida, coletados junto a 13 mulheres com idade entre 60 e 70 anos. Sete destas mulheres residem em Bancários, e as demais na comunidade do Timbó. A caracterização dessas mulheres, como pertencentes aos segmentos médios e populares, não se deu tão somente sob o ponto de vista do lugar em que elas ocupam na estrutura produtiva. Analiso conjuntamente elementos como: espaço de moradia, condições e estilos de consumo, rendimento e escolaridade, práticas e hábitos do cotidiano, na tentativa de levar em consideração concepções e instrumentos capazes de refletir tanto os aspectos objetivos quanto aqueles construídos ao nível da cultura. Foram tomadas como objeto de investigação as experiências particulares dessas mulheres e procurou-se situá-las em um contexto espacial e temporal, que inclui não apenas as suas condições de vida, mas também as interações sociais com outros atores significativos, capazes de interferir em suas práticas sociais e vivências cotidianas.

Resumo:

In this work we address the problem of object recognition and localization within cluttered, natural scenes. Specifically we present a new approach to recognizing deformable objects that uses only local information. We suggest a new method of computing labels for arbitrary regions within an image using only local color and texture information. The results demonstrate our success in both identifying and localizing several classes of objects within cluttered scenes. We make two primary contributions to the field of deformable object recognition. First we present a new technique for labeling arbitrary regions within an image using texture and color features. Second we introduce a hierarchical approach to combining the classification results from segmentations of different granularity. Since the field of deformable object recognition is still in its infancy, we hope the work presented here will be used as a stepping stone to developing more complex, multi-object detection systems. Resumo:

Prosodimodeller som bl.a. kan användas i talsynteser grundar sig ofta på analyser av tal som består av enbart tonande segment. Framför tonlös konsonant saknar vokalsegments grundtonskurvor möjlig fortsättning och blir dessutom kortare. Detta brukar då justeras med hjälp av trunkering av grundtonskurvan. Tidigare studier har i korthet visat att skillnader, förutom trunkering, i vokalers grundtonskurva kan uppstå beroende på om efterföljande segment är tonande eller tonlöst. Med utgångspunkt från dessa studier undersöks i detta examensarbete grundtonskurvan i svenska satser. Även resultaten i denna studie visar att olika strategier i grundtonskurvan används, och att trunkering inte räcker för att förklara vad som sker med grundtonskurvan i dessa kontexter. Generellt visar resultaten på att det verkar viktigt för försökspersonerna att behålla den information som grundtonskurvan ger i form av max- och minimumvärde, och att fall och stigningar så långt det går bibehålls.

Idag blir konkurrensen allt hårdare på marknaden, inte minst sagt i modebranschen. Företag tar till alla olika sorters konkurrensstrategier för att just de skall sticka ut från mängden. Här följer en studie inriktat på en av dessa konkurrensstrategier, nämligen marknadskommunikation. Kommunicerar man fel på den hårt konkurerande marknaden idag kan det få förödande effekter. Man måste som sändare av budskapet veta vem mottagaren är. För att nå framgång i modebranschen är det därför viktigt att positionera sig på marknaden så att man differentierar sig från sina konkurrenter. För att differentiera sig måste du hitta ditt eget sätt att kommunicera till ditt segment. Marknadskommunikationens första prioritering är att ge rätt associationer till företagets varumärke, göra företaget attraktivt på marknaden och även att bygga upp och förmedla ett så kallat mervärde. För att få en verklig och realistisk överblick över problemet har vi valt att undersöka hur företaget Wakakuu kommunicerar med sitt segment. Vi har utifrån detta kunnat analysera hur det ser ut i teorin och hur det ser ut i praktiken. Wakakuu är ett företag som har en framgångsrik webbshop och en showroombutik belägen i Hovås, söder om Göteborg. Svenska modebranschens omsättning var 206 miljarder kronor år 2011. 43 % av den totala omsättningen står butikshandeln för och 4 % står e-handeln för. (Svensk handel 2013) Butikshandeln utgör som sagt en stor del av den totala marknaden och detta var en av anledningen till att vi ville samarbeta med en butik. Vi har studerat hur Wakakuu arbetar för att nå ut till deras segment, kvinna 20-30 år, som finns på deras webbshop men ej i deras fysiska butik, för att få detta segment till den fysiska butiken. För att ta reda på detta har vi studerat deras kommunikationskanaler och påverkande faktorer som utgör om en butik blir vald eller ej. Syftet med vår uppsats är att ta reda på hur ett modeföretag kommunicerar med sitt segment. Vi vill undersöka hur kommunikationsprocessen går till. Slutligen kommer vi att analysera vårt resultat och vår teori, vi vill kunna dra paralleller mellan teorin och praktiken. Vi har kommit fram till att Wakakuu har svårigheter med att nå ut till den yngre kundgruppen, kvinna 20-30 år. I de sociala medier som Wakakuu använder för att kommunicera finns den yngre kundgruppen. Dock ser vi ingen positiv effekt utifrån denna kommunikationsprocess. Vi drar här slutsatsen att Wakakuus kommunikation inte når ut ur det informationsbrus som vi lever i, och det uppkommer för många störningar innan kommunikationen når konsumenten att de inte får någon positiv effekt. Vi har också kommit fram till att Wakakuus läge och pris är påverkande faktorer till varför Wakakuu inte väljs utav konsumenten. Program: Butikschef, textil och mode

Liquid Crystalline Elastomer (LCE)-inspired segmented polyurethane elastomers possessing widely different extents of ordering were created to mimic the hierarchical structure of the continuous matrix and superior mechanical performance of spider silk fibers. The silk's remarkable toughness originates from a fiber morphology that possesses [beta]-pleated crystalline sheets within an amorphous matrix. In the polyurethane materials, various extents of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) soft segment ordering were implemented within continuous soft domains that were connected by hexamethylene diisocyanate-butanediol (HDI-BDO) hard segments. Soft segment crystallinity studies revealed the need to optimize the extent of continuous soft domain ordering. Highly crystalline PEO soft segments, while they display good microphase segregation properties, sacrifice extensibility due to their high melting transition temperature. Moderately crystalline PEO soft segments, meanwhile, possess less defined phase segregation but enhanced mechanical properties from their reversible dispersed crystalline soft segment domains. Non-crystalline Pluronic copolymer systems had good mechanical properties that resulted from both a strong hard segment incompatibility and a highly mobile soft segment matrix. Hydrogen-bonded hard domain shearing during in-situ tensile deformation yields oriented hard blocks that align at a preferred tilt angle of ±60° from the strain direction. Extensive alignment and orientation of the moderately-ordered PEO soft segments occurred during deformation, which was consistent with its observed mechanical behavior. Pluronic-containing segmented polyurethanes formed an ordered mesophase in the continuous soft matrix during deformation. A series of cyclic, aliphatic polyurethanes with dicyclohexyl methane diisocyanate (HMDI) hard segments and poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) soft segments was synthesized to study compositional effects on the extent of soft segment mixing, and how these effects translated to both mechanical and barrier performance. Shorter soft segment chain systems displayed a greater hard segment compatibility, which resulted in materials that were both more rigid mechanically and provided better barrier characteristics. (cont.) Longer soft segments in the continuous polymer matrix displayed a more phase segregated structure, which enhanced their mechanical properties but sacrificed barrier effectiveness. Incorporation of dimethyl propane diol (DMPD), a branched chain extender, created a completely amorphous polyurethane matrix. Polyurethane/Laponite nanocomposites were also created using particles that were capable of preferentially associating with hard or soft segments. HMDI-BDO-PTMO polyurethane/Laponite nanocomposites demonstrated drastically reduced mechanical performance (~13-fold decrease in toughness and ~10-fold decrease in extensibility). The deteriorated mechanical performance was attributed to the formation of an interconnected hard segment continuous morphology that significantly reduced matrix extensibility. HMDI-DMPDPTMO polyurethane/Laponite composites, on the other hand, only experienced modest reductions in extensibility (-70% of total initial extensibility) while maintaining toughess and increasing initial modulus 10-fold. Mechanical behavior resulted from well-dispersed Laponite clay platelets that reinforced the amorphous polymer matrix while imposing modest chain segmental mobility restrictions. by Ryan Scott Waletzko. In the project, our purpose is the synthesis of segmented block copolymers using novel selectively reacting bi-functional coupling agents which have recently been developed by Jakisch at al. Both couplers have one oxazoline group that reacts with carboxylic groups and one oxazinone group that reacts with hydroxyl or amino groups. It was intended to synthesize segmented block copolymers by combination of amino or hydroxyl terminated pre-polymers and carboxylic terminated chain extenders using the above mentioned coupling agents. Several prepolymers were selected such as hydroxyl terminated liquid polybutadiene (PBD-OH), hydroxyl terminated liquid natural rubber (LNR) and amino terminated liquid polybutadiene-b-acrylonitrile (PBAN) and poly(propylene glycol)-bis(2-aminopropylether) (PPO). They were selected as soft polymer segments in the segmented block copolymers aimed for. Additionally, various di-carboxylic acids were chosen as chain extenders. The resulting block copolymers are phase separated materials with a crystalline hard phase. This was demonstrated by two glass transition temperatures corresponding to the soft and hard segments and various melting regions of the hard chain extenders. For these new materials, the controlled phase separation morphology in nano-size was evidenced by TEM. A hard domain size of about 2-5 nm surrounded by a soft matrix was observed on the micro-photographs. This is consistent with the low hard segment content and the segment alternation (A-B)n in multi-block copolymers. With respect to the mechanical properties, a relationship between tensile strength and the average molar mass of the block copolymers was found out. The samples behave as rubber-like thermoplastic materials. The tensile properties depend on the degree of polymerization and the polymer distribution. The reinforcement ability of the hard domains in a physical network was achieved as expected. As a consequence, the obtained final products have mechanical properties like a typical elastomeric material.

The competition amongst companies is getting tougher and the economic markets are getting even bigger with new products and businesses. One way for companies to differentiate themselves from the competitors is through packaging design. If the merchandise is to send a reliable and solid message to consumers, the attributes of the packaging must be consistent and uniform. If the different attributes are not coherent, the message loses credibility towards the consumer. Through the sent messages, the pack signals the products’ expected quality and price. This paper includes two studies, in which the main objective is to discover and build understanding about Swedish consumers’ perception of a product’s price depending on the pack’s design. The focus of this paper is based upon household products. The first study is solely focused on consumers’ opinions on package design, while the second study is based on existing product packs on the market. The results obtained in the consumer study will discover eventual general opinions concerning cheap and expensive packages. These results will then be compared to a selection of products from the markets’ existing offers. The purpose of this study is to clarify how well companies shape their packs based on consumers’ general perception. It is finally discussed how the different attributes can be used to legitimize a higher or lower price. Konkurrensen mellan företag ökar och blir allt hårdare med ett ständigt växande antal aktörer på marknaden. Ett sätt att differentiera sig från konkurrenter är genom förpackningsdesign. För att varan i sin helhet ska ge ett pålitligt intryck måste förpackningens attribut vara enhetliga och genomgående. Spretar attributen inger detta förvirring och skapar brist i trovärdighet hos konsumenten. Förpackningen signalerar varans förväntade kvalitet och pris. Denna uppsats omfattar två studier med syfte att kartlägga svenska konsumenters uppfattning av en produkts pris utifrån förpackningens utformning. Fokus i denna uppsats ligger på hushållsprodukter. Den första studien vänder sig direkt till konsumenten medan den andra undersöker befintliga förpackningar på marknaden. Resultatet av konsumenternas generella uppfattning, gällande billiga respektive dyrare förpackningar, jämförs med ett urval från marknadens befintliga utbud. Detta görs med syfte att klargöra för hur väl företagen arbetar efter konsumenternas generella uppfattning. Slutligen diskuteras hur de olika attributen kan användas i förpackningsdesign för att legitimera ett dyrare respektive billigare pris.

The segmented carbon seal is regularly used for sealing bearing chambers of aeronautical turboengines or as part of a buffer seal in space turbopumps. The seal operates with contaminated air or with an inert gas and is made of many identic carbon segments (generally three or six) with reciprocally overlapping ends. The segments are serrated against the rotor by the pressure difference between the upstream and the downstream chambers and by a circumferential (garter) spring. The pressure difference and an axial spring press the segments also against the stator. The inner cylindrical surface of each segment is provided with pads that create an aerodynamic lift proportional to the rotor speed. Following this lift force, the segments of the seal are pushed away from the rotor and the seal opens. The contact between the rotor and the segments is lost and an axial leakage path is thus created. Although it was developed since long, a model for calculating the characteristics of the segmented seal is completely absent from the scientific literature. The goal of the present work is to fill this gap at least for the static characteristics (leakage and torque). The analysis is carried out for a single segment of the seal by supposing that all the segments have the same characteristics. Each segment has a planar motion (i.e. three degrees of freedom) and therefore the film thickness under each pad is not uniform. Given the stationary operating conditions (pressure difference and rotation speed), the present model calculates the equilibrium position of each segment on the bases of the lift and of the friction force acting on the pads, of the friction forces acting on the nose of the seal and of the radial and axial springs. Once found the static equilibrium position, the leakage and the torque of the seal are calculated. Resumo:

The stability of fluid segments is limited by deformation stress and by coalescence events. Both factors are typical for the passage of fluid segments through micro fluidic networks. Therefore, the coalescence behaviour of micro fluid segments in simple net work structures in dependence of flow rate ratios was investigated and characterized by the composition of obtained segment populations. Series of segments of different size and distance were generated either in a double T- or in a triple T-arrangement. PTFE elements were used for the micro fluid network. Nearly pulsation-free fluid actuation was realized by syringe pumps. The flow conditions in the input streams of carrier liquid and injected solutions remained constant during the experiments. Segment sequences become divers by different injection, stacking and coalescence events. The resulting segment sequences were characterized by on-line micro photometry. The populations of obtained micro fluid segments during each experiment were characterized by the distribution of segment size and segment distance or segment periode, respectively. Simulations support the assumption, that the character of segment populations is mainly determined by the flow rate ratios and by the coalescence sensitivity beside the topology of the fluidic network.

Resumo:

The objective of the present study is to determine to the three-dimensional segment-specific coupling factors from healthy, normal, non-degenerated human cervical spinal columns under bending. Using pure moment loading protocols, cadaver subaxial columns were fixed at the two ends, off-axis forces and moments were recorded using a distal six-axis load cell, and primary and secondary rotations were obtained as a function of applied moments, up to 2.0 Nm. Segmental bone mineral densities were determined using quantitated computed tomography (QCT). Coupling factors were the smallest at the cervico-thoracic spinal segment. Cranial and caudal decreases of the coupling factors occurred from the mid-cervical segment at all applied moment levels, from 65 to 72% at the C4-C5 segment and 59 to 75% at the C5-C6 segment. On average, 55% of the primary rotation was coupled with the secondary rotation across the entire column. Peak coupling occurring in these segments may indicate a greater propensity for age-related changes to these vertebral levels, and offer support to the commonly observed lower cervical degeneration in clinical studies.

To achieve optimum performance with segmented mirror systems, the individual mirror segments must be aligned with respect to each other. This alignment is often referred to as phasing, and two mirror segments which have met this condition are termed in-phase. Mirror phasing requires that accurate tip, tilt, and piston measurements be made. The Polarization Phase Sensor (PPS) demonstrates a novel approach to mirror segment alignment.

This paper is in three segments: (A) Segment on Vaccine Manufacture; (B) Segment on Ready to Use (RTU) Fluid Path for Compounded Sterile Preparations, mRNA Vaccines, and Phage Therapy, (C) Segment on Competency Framework for Addressing Regulatory Review These segments can be used separately or in combination. Additionally, they can be presented in any order. The time devoted to each segment depends on the depth of the course coverage. These segments are interrelated and describe how to make vaccines, how to manufacture vaccines with a point-of-care system built from ready-to-use parts; and how to regulate vaccines. This is a timely review because of the importance of vaccines for the treatment of diseases. It is hoped that it will lead to new approaches to vaccine manufacture and regulation.
