Resumo:

Acest articol are ca obiectiv prezentarea personalităţii lui Ştefan Fălcoianu (6 iunie 1835–22 ianuarie 1905) şi a vastei sale activităţi, cercetare fundamentată pe documentele inedite din Fondul Familial Fălcoianu de la Arhivele Naţionale ale României, din Bucureşti. Fondul documentar datează din anii 1836-1944 și a fost preluat de la Filiala Arhivelor Ilfov. Documentele conțin informații despre genealogia familiei Fălcoianu, date referitoare la activitatea generalului Ștefan Ioniță Fălcoianu. Corespondența păstrată reflectă legăturile lui Ștefan Fălcoianu cu personalități ale vremii: Constantin Barozzi1Octav George Lecca2, generalul belgian Henri Alexis Brialmont.

.The shift from a romantic to a positivist view of the past gave rise to a new generation of researchers determined to make history writing scientific. Dimitrie Onciul, a university professor in Bucharest who studied at the Austro-German universities of Chernivtsi, Vienna, and Berlin, was a prominent Romanian positivist. Dimitrie Onciul established a new paradigm of historical investigation in Romanian historiography by integrating approaches and methodologies learned from his professors. The critical school of history, co-founded by Dimitrie Onciul and medievalist Ioan Bogdan, produced notable historians such as Vasile Pârvan, Al. Lapedatu, C. Giurescu, Ion Ursu, Iulian Marinescu, Ilie Minea, Al. Al. Vasilescu and others.

În perioada 29.05.2022 – 06.06.2022 a avut loc cea de a 32-a ediție a școlii de vară European Dendroecological Fieldweek, în Heiligenstadt, Germania. Școala de vară a durat o săptămână și a inclus activități didactice: cursuri, seminarii, workshopuri, respectiv lucrări practice și activități de teren. Activitățile teoretice au avut o abordare graduală, începând cu elemente de bază privind formarea lemnului până la dezvoltarea de serii de creștere multi-seculare și reconstrucția variabilității factorilor climatici în trecut. Participanții au avut ocazia să prezinte o lucrare sau o sinteză a activității de cercetare desfășurată în cadrul lucrării de masterat sau doctorat, iar pe de altă parte, au avut ocazia să-și prezinte sintezele creionate pe parcursul zilelor petrecute la Heiligenstadt. Școala de vară repzintă o bună oportunitate de a îmbogăți cunoștințele științifice cu privire la dinamica formării inelului anual, despre modul de standardizare a seriilor de creștere, modul de calcul și interpretare a indicilor de reziliență, modul de calcul și interpretare a nivelului de lumină albastră reflectată (blue intensity), dar și o bună conjunctură de a cunoaște tineri cercetători, de a face schimb de idei, de a construi parteneriate.

Resumo:

Part of the life of the society in which it develops and on which it has an impact perhaps not always fully assumed and respected, the school benefits both from the scientific structure and from the tendency - natural and necessary - to investigate the new. So how do we deal with the digital reality that students live in and that even the most conservative of teachers can't dissociate themselves from? Here is the plot of this work! In this context, the purpose of this work is to investigate and assess the impact of online schooling on Romanian grounds, following the opinions of the three active educational performers immerged in it the most: teachers, pupils, parents. The inquiry has followed the primary education learning path, as part of a deeper concern for this field, with an open eye towards both achievements and challenges. The questionnaires have given the possibility to all three categories to express personal perspectives and conclusions. The reasonable deduction of the present educational approach is that online courses represent a milestone in the functioning of Romanian schools, providing us with the ability to acknowledge the importance of both direct interaction and need to develop acquires in terms of technology.

Resumo:

Abstract Nicolae Oprea’s books remark themselves through rigour, the reverberations of erudition and expressivity of his critical phrase. In these books, and especially in Provinciile imaginare, Nicolae Oprea expresses his predilection towards a segment of the Romanian prose characterised through the “pre-eminence of the space in connection with the character or the event”, through a synthetic vision which combines the existential openness and the deepness of ideas. His critical endeavour therefore highlights a reference horizon of fiction on the border of the imaginary with reality. Refusing an inflamed tonality and rhetoric, being a promoter of the neutral observation, albeit not entirely lacking in affectivity, Nicolae Oprea knows how to highlight the allure of the works’ shades and details, the point of his critical thinking being the balance between the critical concept, refined, essential, and the actual image of the work, the example which would justify the demonstration.

În 2013, Editure, Unikum în Germania a republicat primul manual forestier, la 110 ani de la prima sa publicare. Manualul reprezintă un moment de cotitură în educația forestieră, în special pentru educația silvicultorilor implicați în administrarea Fondului Forestier Ortodox din Bucovina. Silvicultorii au fost instruiți la Școala Forestieră Codrul Cosminului, unde 420 de persoane au absolvit în cei 22 de ani de funcționare, înainte de primul război mondial. Considerăm că acesta este un document valoros care atestă complexitatea și minuțiozitatea informațiilor transmise elevilor-silvicultori de pe întregul imperiu austro-ungar. Manualul este prezentat în două volume, cu două direcții de studiu separate, cu o structură tematică diversă și foarte complexă. Cu toate acestea, manualul se distinge și prin integralitatea sa și nu numai. Stilul explicativ, claritatea textelor și rigoarea științifică îl fac remarcabil și surprinzător de modern.

Gedankenübertragung. Gegenübertragung. Thought-transference (or telepathy) and counter-transference have rarely been considered together. One is a key instrument in much contemporary psychoanalytic practice and the other simply occultism. This essay traces the striking parallels in Sigmund Freud's interests in both. Its tale is the uncanny narrative of his essay ‘Psychoanalysis and Telepathy’. The story starts from Freud's engagements with Sándor Ferenczi and Carl Jung to speculate that his unpublished paper may be the article on counter-transference he promised but never wrote. The repressed returns in the history and practice of psychoanalysis — and in Shoshana Felman's uncanny reading effect.

The present article provides a brief historiographical analysis of the editorial year ‘Avram Iancu 150,’ which saw the publication of seven volumes of history, literature, poetry, critical literature, and drama dedicated to the hero of the Romanian Revolution of 1848–1849 in Transylvania. Four books were published by the Școala Ardeleană publishing house of Cluj-Napoca, the only publishing house in Romania to have undertaken a large-scale publishing project dedicated to restoring the life and memory of Avram Iancu for the 21st-century reader, two volumes were published by the Techno Media publishing house of Sibiu, and another volume by the Theosis publishing house of Oradea. Two of the six volumes are critical re-editions of works written in the first half of the 20th century by two distinguished personalities of Romanian culture: philosopher, writer and playwright Lucian Blaga and historian Silviu Dragomir. The other volumes were authored by writer Mircea Tomuș, critic and literary historian Mircea Popa, historian Lucian Giura, librarian Maria Grancea, and Father Ion Alexandru Mizgan of the Orthodox Church.

Opportunistic networks are the special class of ad hoc networks where permanent link among the nodes are almost absent and communication occurs when an “opportunity” is found. The opportunistic networks have more diverse features than traditional ad hoc networks, like self-organized nature, intermittent connectivity, store-carry-forward routing mechanism, etc. All these features make opportunistic networks more prone to security threats. This article discusses security challenges and threats to opportunistic networks. Focusing on the specific security requirements of opportunistic networks, proposed is a secure framework for authentication and privacy preservation (SF-APP) for opportunistic networks. The proposed algorithm takes care of authentication, privacy preservation, and trust management. Within this article is a performed security analysis of SF-APP and simulation results show that the proposed framework is capable of fulfilling the security requirements of opportunistic networks.

Wearable sensor-based human activity recognition (HAR) has gained significant attention due to the widespread use of smart wearable devices. However, variations in different subjects can cause a domain shift that impedes the scaling of the recognition model. Unsupervised domain adaptation has been proposed as a solution to recognize activities in new, unlabeled target domains by training the source and target data together. However, the need for accessing source data raises privacy concerns. Source-free domain adaptation has emerged as a practical setting, where only a pre-trained source model is provided for the unlabeled target domain. This setup aligns with the need for personalized activity model adaptation on target local devices. As the edge devices are resource-constrained with limited memory, it is crucial to take the computational efficiency, i.e., memory cost into consideration. In this paper, we develop a source-free domain adaptation framework for wearable sensor-based HAR, with a focus on computational efficiency for target edge devices. Firstly, we design a lightweight add-on module called adapter to adapt the frozen pre-trained model to the unlabeled target domain. Secondly, to optimize the adapter, we adopt a simple yet effective model adaptation method that leverages local representation similarity and prediction consistency. Additionally, we design a set of sample selection optimization strategies to select samples effective for adaptation and further enhance computational efficiency while maintaining adaptation performance. Our extensive experiments on three datasets demonstrate that our method achieves comparable recognition accuracy to the state-of-the-art source free domain adaptation methods with fewer than 1% of the parameters updated and saves up to 4.99X memory cost.

Greater Romania was created at the end of World War I as a result of both top-down and bottom-up processes that involved all social layers from Transylvania and the Old Kingdom. The present study focuses on a particular category of actors that took part in the Great Union of 1 December 1918, namely Romanian officers from the Austrian army, and on a specific set of sources, i.e. Transylvanian periodicals issued around this date. In order to answer a number of research questions centered on Romanian officers’ contribution to the historical act that took place in Alba Iulia, I used articles that appeared throughout 1918 in four Transylvanian periodicals, namely Biserica și Școala, Drapelul, Transilvania and Unirea. The study’s chief aim is to provide a clear picture of the manner in which Romanian officers from the Austrian army were depicted by the press shortly before and after Transylvania’s union with Romania was proclaimed, as well as of the nature of their participation in the events: as delegates of the National Guards or as agents whose goal was to ensure order during the meeting.

Four pathogenic Vibrio species were isolated from three diseased black rockfish Sebastes schlegeli in Yantai, Shandong Province, China. The strains were identified based on physiological and biochemical characteristics and 16S rDNA sequencing and named SF-2, SF-3, SF-5, and SF-6, respectively. SF-2 was Vibrio scophthalmi, SF-3 was V. harveyi, SF-5 was V. alginolyticus, and SF-6 was V. parahaemolyticus. This is the first time that V. scophthalmi was isolated from black rockfish. The present research shows that V. scophthalmi is a potential pathogen. Detection of virulence genes using polymerase chain reaction showed that SF-3, SF-5, and SF-6 carried FlaB; SF-5 and SF-6 carried TcpA; and SF-2, SF-5, and SF-6 carried ToxS. Tdh, Trh, Tlh, ToxR, and Zot were not detected. SF-3, SF-5, and SF-6 all had protease, gelatinase, lipase, and lecithinase. They were all intermediately sensitive to erythromycin, whereas SF-2, SF-5, and SF-6 were sensitive to spectinomycin, and SF-3 was sensitive to cotrimoxazole and chloramphenicol. They were resistant to most antibiotics and multidrug resistance was obvious.

Osteoarthritis (OA) affects the integrity of the entire joint including the synovium. The most abundant cells in the synovium are fibroblasts (SF). Excessive mechanical loading might contribute to OA pathogenesis. Here, we investigate the effects of mechanical loading on SF derived from non-OA (N-SF) and OA patients (OA-SF). We treated N-SF and OA-SF with or without mechanical loading for 48h after 24h of preincubation. Then we assessed gene and protein expression of proinflammatory factors (TNFα, COX-2, PG-E2, IL-6), extracellular matrix (ECM) components (COL1, FN1) and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) via RT-qPCR, ELISA, DMMB assay and HPLC. Mechanical loading significantly increased TNFα and PG-E2 secretion by N-SF and OA-SF, whereas in OA-SF IL-6 secretion was reduced. COL1 and FN1 secretion were downregulated in N-SF during loading. OA-SF secreted less COL1 compared to N-SF under control conditions. In contrast, OA-SF in general expressed more FN1. GAG synthesis was upregulated in N-SF, but not in OA-SF during loading with OA-SF displaying a higher charge density than N-SF. Mechanical loading enhanced proinflammatory factor expression and GAG synthesis and decreased secretion of ECM components in N-SFs, indicating a contributing role of SF to OA development.

To quantitatively evaluate the efficacy of stacking fault (SF) reduction methods, Monte Carlo simulations are carried out to reveal the SF distribution on a 3C–SiC (001) surface. SF density decreases with increasing epitaxial layer thickness and reducing size of the substrates. Additionally, SF density depends on interactions between adjoining SFs: annihilation of counter SF-pairs or termination of orthogonal SF-pairs. However, the SF is not entirely eliminated when growth occurs on undulant-Si or switchback epitaxy due to “spontaneous SF collimation”. The simulation shows that effective SF reduction methods, those that enhance the SF termination or annihilation, can theoretically attain the SF density on 3C–SiC (001) below 100 cm-1.

Sildenafil (SF) is widely used for erectile dysfunction and other conditions, though with limitations regarding oral absorption and adverse effects. Despite nanotechnological improvements, the effect of nanocarriers on SF hepatotoxicity has not been documented to date. This study aimed at assessing the impact of chitosan nanoparticles either uncoated (CS NPs) or Tween 80-coated (T-CS NPs) on the effects of SF on oxidative stress markers and antioxidant enzyme activities in rats. Test SF-CS NPs prepared by ionic gelation were uniform positively charged nanospheres (diameter 178-215 nm). SF was administered intraperitoneally to male rats (1.5 mg/kg body weight) in free or nanoencapsulated forms as SF-CS NPs and T-SF-CS NPs for 3 weeks. Free SF significantly suppressed the activity of the antioxidant enzymes glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), as well as the levels of glutathione (GSH) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) as in an indirect measure of free radicals. Interestingly, SF-CS NPs and T-SF-CS-NPs treatments significantly attenuated the inhibitory effects of SF on the activity of these enzymes whereas, GST activity was inhibited. Moreover, the protein expression of GST was downregulated upon treatment of rats with free SF, SF-CS-NPs, and T-SF CS-NPs. In contrast, the activity and protein expression of GPx was induced by SF-CS NPs and T-SF-CS-NPs treatments. The histopathological study showed that SF induced multiple adverse effects on the rat liver architecture which were markedly suppressed particularly by T-SF-CS NPs. In conclusion, chitosan nanoencapsulation of SF counteracted the adverse effects of SF on the activity of antioxidant enzymes and liver architecture. Findings might have significant implications in improving the safety and efficacy of SF treatment of the widely expanding disease conditions.

Resumo:

The objective was to study the construct validity of the MOS SF-36 (Medical Outcome Study, short form questionnaire, version of 36 items) using structural equation modeling (SEM). Despite the widespread use of the questionnaire, several problems with the measurement model have been shown in the past, and it is highly disputable whether the computation of two component (summary) scales according to the published algorithm is a valid condensation. The SEM was conducted with the data of N = 2,874; the SF-36 was part of a questionnaire given prior to acupuncture treatment. The results indicated poor construct validity of the proposed structure of the first and second order factor solutions. First and foremost, contrary to the algorithm stated in the manual, the two component scales are not uncorrelated. Second, the overall fit of the original measurement model does not reflect the data structure very well. The current measurement model is discussed and starting points for revisions are provided.
