Transporte escolar rural. Desempenho escolar. Tempo de deslocamento. Time length of stay in school transport on student performance ABSTRACT In rural communities, school transport is essential for access to the teaching unit, but the time students spend in the vehicle until school are very long, which results in tiredness and emotional distress, consequently, influences their school performance. An example of this situation is at the Roraima Federal Institute / Novo Paraíso campus, located in rural Caracaraí-RR, where the travel time to school is longer than recommended and student performance in the National High School Exam in the last two years was below the national average. To minimize this problem, better planning of rural transport routes, public policies to improve rural roads and a more attractive pedagogical teaching plan that reflects the reality of rural students are needed. Rural school transportation. School performance. Travel time. In contrast to urban genealogies of Romanticism, I propose in this paper a rural genealogy of early Romanticism based on Ludwig Tieck’s novel Peter Lebrecht (1795/96), in which a constitutive relationship between Romantic authorship and rural existence is established: 1. A rural lifestyle affords the Romantic writer-subject with a permanent access to a romanticizing nature. 2. A rural upbringing and lifestyle protects against the influences of urban enlightenment culture. 3. Tieck’s novel envisions the rural as an ambivalent space favourable to emergent Romantic aesthetics.

My first day of school - I had been waiting for this day for a year. I couldn't wait for the day to come when I got to go to school with my older brother and sister, who were in secondary, and my other brother who was in primary. The day had finally arrived and I was so scared. What was my teacher going to be like? Who else was going to be in my class? Were there any other girls? What do I do at school? As I had never gone to preschool I wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen. The school, which I was to attend for the next 13 years, was a Central School. At the time I began school it went from Kindergarten to Year 10, (School Certificate). When I was in Year 8 the school began teaching the Higher School Certificate through Telematics with Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, and Ungarie schools. I need not have worried - My first day was everything that I wished for. There were many students at the school and I was placed in a class with 8 other children. I had a really nice teacher and there were lots of kids to play with. Except for school holidays, I was happy that this was where I was going to be for the next thirteen years. As I got older though I began to think that school was the last place I wanted to be. Everyone tells you that when you leave that you will want to go hack and you always answer with 'yeah, as if!' Well, I wouldn't mind going back. I now realise that I had a fantastic schooling, with great friends. Because the school was small, everyone was a friend. I also found that the teachers were good friends too.

In spite of the official goals of support for rural tourism promulgated by governmental bodies, rural tourism remains a marginal phenomenon. This lack of confidence in rural tourism has relatively deep roots. The basis for this is almost of an ontological nature and consists in opposition, although subconscious, against “commodified authenticity”. Another source of this lack of confidence lies in the fact that rurality, the main attractive feature of tourism, has been substantially impaired as a result of trends in the 20th century. A third reason follows from the combination of rural tourism and mass recreation, as well as inadequate response by governmental bodies and authorities to the risks for regional stability, based on unmanaged mass tourism.

Women in rural areas face numerous economic and social barriers, primarily due to unequal access to public services, and limited educational and employment opportunities. Moreover, there is insufficient statistical data to adequately monitor gender equality indicators in rural and urban areas, leading to the economic and social invisibility of (rural) women. The aim of this article is to examine the inequalities between women and men in urban and rural areas in terms of basic socio-economic indicators, education, and employment. In order to contribute to the importance of gender-specific data and analysis, a secondary analysis of data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics’ [CBS] database regarding several indicators important for monitoring gender equality has been conducted. The data shows that there are inequalities between rural and urban areas and between the genders. In urban areas, significantly more women obtain a university degree than in rural areas, the employment rate of women in rural areas is many times lower than in urban areas, and the availability of certain public services, such as pre-school education (kindergarten), is still significantly lower despite positive changes in rural areas.

Inspired by the potential of Information and Communication Technologies, henceforth ICTs, for socio-economic development, and supported by a university based technology and business incubator, Rural Production Company, henceforth RPC, was set up in 2007 employing an ICT-mediated distributed production model. This paper reveals how RPC, initially an exploratory project whose key innovation was its Internet kiosk-facilitated model of crafts production and local empowerment, morphed into a social enterprise catering to global demands. The context of innovation provided by the Incubator led to a transformation of an ICT4D (ICT for Development) project into a business venture through the practice of formal and informal questioning at every stage of its implementation. This paper focuses on the iterative method adopted while highlighting the role of the incubator in the overall design and development process of the enterprise. This paper is a reflexive mapping of the organization’s evolution from the original research agenda of outsourcing production cum rural employment, to one that privileges local networks both as a conscious business strategy and as an arena for collaborative change for human development.

This study examined postgraduate work after an undergraduate clinical year spent in the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia (RCSWA), compared with 6 weeks Rural Undergraduate Support and Coordination (RUSC)-funded rural experience in a 6-year undergraduate medical course. Rural background, sex and Rural Australian Medical Undergraduate Scholarship (RAMUS)-holding were taken into account. Methods. University of Western Australia undergraduate data were linked by hand with postgraduate placements to provide a comprehensive dataset on the rural exposure history of junior medical practitioners working in Western Australia between 2004 and 2007. Results. Participation in the RCSWA program was associated with significantly more postgraduate year one rural work than RUSC placement alone (OR = 1.5, CI 0.97–2.38). The RCSWA workforce effect increased at postgraduate year two (OR = 3.0, CI 1.6484 to 5.5935 relative to RUSC). Rural-origin practitioners who chose the RCSWA program were more likely than other rural-origin practitioners to take rural rotations in both postgraduate years. RAMUS holders’ choice in relation to the RCSWA program predicted later rural work. There were no effects of sex. Conclusions. Rural initiatives, in particular the Rural Clinical School program, are associated with postgraduate rural choices. The real impact of these data rely on the translation of early postgraduate choices into long-term work commitments. What is known about the topic? Specific training of rural graduates is strongly related to subsequent rural workforce. In addition, rural educational placements affect medical students’ intentions to practise rurally. Retrospective data from rural relative to urban general practitioners link rural background, rural undergraduate experience and rural postgraduate experience with rural work. What does this paper add? Much of the Australian prospective outcomes research has looked at workforce intentions of graduates, or the workforce outcomes of small graduate cohorts of Rural Clinical Schools. This paper followed nearly 500 graduates by name through to their PGY1 and PGY2 workforce decisions. As this cohort comprised 80% of three completely graduated MBBS years, these data validly represent the outcome of a medical school which is comparable to all Australian medical schools in its RUSC, Rural Clinical School and RAMUS recipients. The paper provides the first peer-reviewed outcomes data for the RAMUS scholarship program. What are the implications for practitioners? Rural supervision of medical students is an effective way to recruit new workforce. The longer students are supervised in rural settings, the better. But undergraduate programs need to be linked with postgraduate initiatives that take graduates of medical student initiatives into vocational programs able to deliver a trained rural workforce.

The paper describes the role of rural tourism for the sustainable development of rural areas and stresses out the importance of strategic approach in the planning of their development. The author identifies core problems, which eliminate their use and disable individual strategies set by some entrepreneurs in rural tourism. Concretely it is the absence of developing projects and focus on the development of individual villages. Then it is the lack of will to cooperate, local resources are not effectively used and the local community is not adequately involved.

| Rural areas have been called to play a central role in the fight to mitigate the effects of climate change. The exogenous categorization that has divided and separated nature from society and culture had negative effects on the relation between rural dwellers and the Institutions that supposed to look after environmental sustainability.

Microfinance companies are the result of China’s rural financial reform. Since their creation, they have been undertaking the responsibility of effectively allocating financial resources and guiding the flow of funds to rural areas and underdeveloped areas through the introduction of private capital. The emergence of microfinance companies has intensified the competition in rural financial market and built a new pattern of rural financial service systems. As a result driven by multiple objectives, these microfinance companies must face the issue of how to integrate microfinance services for the “three rurals” (rural economy, rural community, and rural residents) as well as small, medium, and micro enterprises with their own finances in a sustainable and effective manner. On the basis of dual objectives and with full consideration of the characteristics of China’s microfinance companies, this study has constructed a performance evaluation system exclusively for commercial microfinance companies in China by drawing on the performance evaluation system of foreign micro-credit institutions through analytic hierarchy process and Delphi method.
