This prototype is a fluorescent fixture equipped with 2x14W T5fluorescent lamps, dimmed separately. The shape can be described as a soft, organic elongated oval. The luminary screen is made of rice paper, which givesa soft and pleasant light transmission. Access to the interior and electronics isprovided via the open ends of the screen, which is concealed by two endcapsules in plastic. This research evaluates the applicability of waxy rice as the paper coating binder. The reasons for accomplishing the thesis are because the literature hasshown that waxy rices are part of the major agricultural products in Taiwan andAsia, however, waxy rices have not been applied to any industrial processes. Additionally, waxy rices are composed of nearly all amylopectin as opposed tosignificant amylose content in other starch- containing material, such as corn starch. This would give rise to higher solution viscosity of the waxy rices and plausible betterbinder performance. The experience work in this study has comparedthe binder performance of waxy rices with that of the oxidizedtapioca starch and soy protein. Moreover, waxy rices aretreated in both alkaline and acidic media in attempt to improvetheir applicability. The experience results are: 1.Without chemical treatment, the waxy rice (short form) giveshigher opacity but lower picking strength than oxidized starch and soy protein at the equivalent binder addition levers.2.All studied waxy rices (long, short, and black forms), after alkaline treatment, gives higher picking strehgth, gloss, and opacity than without alkaline treatment. Nevertheless, lower brightnessof coated papers is obtaind when using alkaline-treatedwaxy rices.3.Acid treatment on the waxy ricesresults in higher opacity and brightness than without treatmentHowever, the acid treatment also meaningfully lowers the gloss and picking stength of the coated papers.
Eliphaz, Mukasa. "Formulation of a natural intraoral dispersible film (IDF) for intraoral delivery of various natural drugs using edible rice paper film as the carrier vehicle". Thesis, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10539/23303.
Texto completo da fonteBackground and the purpose of study. At present, pharmaceutical researchers are focusing on instantaneous intraoral dispersible technologies as novel drug delivery systems because; they have outstanding advantages over the traditional oral and parenteral routes of drug administration. Some essential natural drugs have low oral bioavailability due to extensive first pass metabolism and pre systemic degradation in the gastrointestinal tract. Aim. Now, a cheap rice paper Intraoral Dispersible Film (IDF) has been developed Objectives. In this study, formulation was optimized using the experimental factorial design. The IDFs were loaded with model, natural, anti-cancer drugs, Resveratrol and Curcumin with low oral bioavailability. Methods. They were evaluated for thickness, folding endurance, swelling behaviour, among others. These related to their drug release properties. Permeation was evaluated using the pig mucosal membrane mounted on a Franz diffusion cell. Taste testing was done to determine acceptability using a taste panel. Results and Discussions. Sixteen formulations showed variations in their profiles. Formulation 16 proved optimal. The dissolution rate at steady state concentrations of Resveratrol was 29mg per second and the Permeability coefficient was 389 mg/sec.cm2. That of Curcumin was 0.25mg per second and the Permeability coefficient was 42.71 mg/sec.cm2 Resveratrol permeability rate was 0.42 mg/sec. and that of Curcumin was 0.14 mg/sec. Resveratrol Flux was 0.21 mg/sec./cm2. Curcumin Flux was 0.14 mg/sec. / cm2. Drug entrapment was 80% for both molecules. The 20 mg of Resveratrol and Curcumin would then dissolve in 47.6 sec. and 71.4 sec. respectively. In this study, after permeation, a concentration of 6.73mg/ml of Resveratrol and 0.061mg/ml of Curcumin were detected after 2 hours of the experiment on administering only 20 mg of each of the drugs suggesting that Curcumin is 100 times less permeable than Resveratrol. The release profile is a burst release. On contrast, Curcumin oral dose of 2 g/kg to rats yielded 1.35±0.23 μg/ml in 0.83 hours and in humans, the same dose either undetectable or extremely low (0.006±0.005 μg/ml after 1 hour. Two separate mono-glucuronide metabolites yielded Cmax ~7.5 μM following a single 5.0 g oral dosage of Resveratrol. Conclusion. The key finding is, ex vivo release profiles of the optimized formulation revealed first order release and later zero order. Therefore, it is evident that rice paper IDF could efficiently deliver natural drugs into the systemic circulation. However, later, further studies are needed to prove increased bioavailability to be performed in human subjects

From the beginning of the Han immigrants' initial plantations to the decline in present days, the rice paper industry in the Hsinchu area lasted for about 300 years, spanning across three major phases: Qing Dynasty, Japanese Occupation and Post War. Each phase had its unique developmental features. Paintings exported from Guanzhou had begun to rise since the 18th century, especially after Kai-chi Huang recruited the rice-paper plant craftsmen from Mainland China to the Hsinchu area, which has not only changed the productive modes of Taiwan rice-paper products by bringing them to the international market, but also formed relationships based on industrial cooperation among various ethnic groups involved in the rice-paper industry under economic incentives. Besides discussing the development and changes of the rice-paper industry in Hsinchu, this research explores the ethnic relationships behind the industry's history, specifically, how ethnic relations determine the industry's production and marketing structure, and how such a structure stabilizes ethnic relations. This research finds that from the harvest of raw materials to the production and marketing of rice-paper products, all of the written documents in the past only presented the importance of indigenous and Hokien people, without mentioning the Hakka. In fact, the Hakka were never absent in the production and marketing process of the rice-paper industry, but rather, they played an important role as the bridge. Besides, the research also exposes the impression that Taiwan society held toward the indigenous people during the post-war period. Those with prejudicial views still chose self-rationalization while their attitudes remained unchanged, which obviously has a negative influence on mutual understanding among ethnic groups. Overall speaking, through fieldwork and investigation of historical documents, this research portrays the everyday ethnic relations among the indigenous, Hakka and Hokien peoples based on their coordination in the rice-paper industry. Thus, although the ethnic boundaries did exist in common daily life, it was generally agreed that there were no ethnic problems, and everyone treated each other equally and coexisted well. Even when there were conflicts, peaceful coexistence could still be maintained through mutual tolerance and interdependent learning.
