Texto completo da fonteOver the last twenty years, the virtual restoration of ancient environments that have disappeared or deteriorated has become an essential tool for historians, both as part of their research and for communicating their results to the public. Many restitution projects from Renaissance to 18th century include hand-blown glass objects, either for window works or in various types of lighting devices. These glass objects, made by hand, are characterized by their irregular surface, the presence of bubbles and by a continuously varying index of refraction caused by the mixing of several glass pastes of different compositions. When they are used in windows or in lanterns, these irregularities produce complex lighting effects that are still challenging to compute using photorealistic light simulation techniques. In this thesis, we first study the geometric representation of old glass objects as used in windows and lanterns. We used signed distance functions to implicitly define the characteristic irregular surface and bubbles of old glass. Non-linear sphere tracing allows the simulation of the curved trajectory of light rays inside heterogeneous glass. These tools constitute a general model for the simulation of light transport through these irregular objects, allowing their integration into photorealistic light simulation algorithms such as path tracing. A phenomenological model is then used to generate plausible input data for modeling crown and cylinder blown glass. We introduce a method based on texture coordinates to easily create and render complex objects made of individual flat pieces of glass cut from multiple glass panels, as tipically seen in stained-glass windows. We then propose a method for estimating the complex transmitted lighting produced by a light source through an irregular and heterogeneous glass panel. We characterize the set of admissible light paths existing between two points of space as the set of stationary optical paths (Fermat's principle). Finding all the admissible paths resorts to solving a non-linear optimization problem consisting in finding all the stationary points of a function of several variables, for which we use Newton's method and results from theoretical seismology. This technique integrates seamlessly into stochastic methods like path tracing, ubiquitous in photorealistic image synthesis. Our method compares favorably to state-of-thè-art methods in terms of speed of convergence and exploration of the path space. Contrarily to the state-of-the-art, our use of Fermat's principle allows us to generalize our work to transparent media with continuously varying index of refraction. Finally, we adapt our old glass window model to real time rasterized rendering. Direct ray tracing through objects made of flat pieces of glass is realized using a sphere tracing algorithm. We use traced rays and geometry buffers to warp a rasterized rendering of the scene and reproduce in screen space the refraction effects created by a glass window. We pre-compute the complex light field produced by a luminaire made of old glass and encode it inside a small size, fully connected neural network backed by a multiresolution grid encoding. This allows the real time reconstruction of the incident lighting produced by a complex luminaire, as encountered in restitution projects where the most of the lighting is provided by complex lighting devices such as lanterns

Texto completo da fonteThe aim of my thesis was to offer a detailed study of an area which, if regularly used for the extension of Archaeology and History, has never been so far the subject of a specific study, according to our knowledge. Archaeological and historical reconstruction is nevertheless a phenomenon, especially in the Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian countries, that plays a key role in both scientific research and release of heritage to the general public. Articles and books that are interested in this or that method of reconstruction are frequently published in France. This research work is divided in three parts: the first one is devoted to a historic of reconstruction and representations of the past, through space and time. From antiquity to today, we will study the evolution of staging and set images on events, buildings and figures in history, as well as values and taboos associated to these representations of the past. Give a picture, realistic or symbolic of the past and not only allude to it by spoken or written means, is a desire that seems to have been present among men in all ages and in all civilizations. Mirrors of the eras that created them and perceptions of the men of their own society and those who preceded them, ancient historical and archaeological reconstructions are important testimony. The second part is based on the analysis of three examples of archaeological and historical representation made in France and on European sites. They were chosen for their paradigm and their respective places in the advanced techniques and expectations of scientists as well as the public supposed to watch them. The third and last part goes to the heart of the subject and, in particular, from the examples discussed above, offers an interrogation upon the limits and the challenges of archaeological and historical reconstructions. This issue is particularly topical in the late twentieth and early twenty-First century. For three reasons: the development of cultural tourism and the development of interactive archaeological parks, the amplification of heritage policies, the increase in the public educated in image reading which is waiting not only for the researcher’s result of a hypothesis but also its justification. So the reconstruction issues are crucial. A sign of it is that more and more doctoral thesis of archeological sites offers reconstructions. The archaeological authorities of many countries now stipulate that a significant proportion of the budget of the search must be devoted to subsequent promotion, of which the center is reconstruction. The latter therefore falls outside the strict framework of museums and now requires a variety of actors who were only superficially interested in these issues. The explosion in use of reconstructions appears as an ambiguous triumph. Indeed, the various actors who use the reconstruction are not aiming the same goals: between those who experience a working hypothesis and those who are expecting pedagogical resource as teaching tools, or those looking for an image to generate a sentimental investment of a place, the common denominator is very difficult, if not impossible, to find. In addition, a major limitation of archaeological and historical reconstructions lies mainly in the ephemeral nature of their scientific validity, even if their life is sometimes very long. An historiography of these achievements is necessary, because they reflect the context of their building as much as the era they are supposed to bring back to life

Texto completo da fonteThe monographic study of the macellum of Djemila (Cuicul) comes to complete the short series of macella excavated and published in the roman world. For the moment, only macella Belo, Saint-Bertrand de Comminges, Cordoue, Wroxeter and Pouzzoles were the object of a detailed study. Built during the reign of emperor Antoninus Pius, the food market of Djemila presents an excellent state of preservation and a big epigraphic wealth. My study includes the building as architectural entity, but i widened it to the all monumental complex, to understand better its implantation in the town planning of the city, the reasons for its closeness with the forum and its precise function. Our researches allowed to make a detailed description and surveys of the remains of the macellum and to treat, by an architectural and stylistic study, all the structures in position but also membra disjecta. They also allowed me to propose architectural restitution, illustrated by representations of the building in plan and elevation, as well as computer modeling. We also studied the implemented techniques of construction. Finally, we dealt the question of the personality of his benefactor and the role of generosity in the financing the construction of the market

Texto completo da fonteThe present article is a contribution to the understanding of the notion of "joking relationships" (utani in Swahili) and the practices it points to. The reflexive approach here adopted aims at questioning the category itself and unveiling the theoretical orientations on which it rests. The following step of the work is concerned with the production and reproduction of such practices in relation to the workings of power and the affirmation of ethnic identity in Tanzania. It is discussed from both historical and present-day point of view. Finally the work deals with the growing debates around the notion of "joking relationships" and the process of the re-imagining of local traditions by the re-reading of anthropological conceptual tools

Texto completo da fonteIn the middle of the twelfth century, the abbatial church of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa was endowed with a ''tribune'', a deep choir screen built on two bays. Dismantled in the sixteenth century this ''tribune'' is only known today by its 180 pink marble sculptures scattered throughout France and abroad. Since its discovery in the 1950’s, several attempts have been made to reconstruct this liturgical nonpareil of architecture. Their results differ on several points : the inventory, the location of the construction in the nave of the abbey church, the shapes of the structure and the positioning of the sculptures themselves. The stones preserved, numerous and varied in nature, are sufficient to allow a 3D reconstruction in the form of a digital anastylosis. From the Greek word, anastellein, “to rebuild,” this study appoints an attempt to digitally reconstruct the disappeared monument from its remaining elements. With no contemporaneous descriptions or representations that of the tribune and lacking precise textual and iconographic evidence, it is the careful analysis of the stones themselves that allow the formulation of a new hypotheses. Through this research, a new methodology for the study of the scattered fragments issued from the dismantled structure has been developed and tested for the purpose of their anastylosis. Every stone attributed to the ancient ''tribune'' has been digitized and integrated in the proposition of a 3D reconstruction. The latter has brought a better understanding of the sculpted set and its architecture, renewing discussions on the structure's artistic, liturgical and historical aspects. Thus bringing clarity to its iconography, functions, dating and context of commissioning
