Texto completo da fonteClimate change is already affecting forest ecosystems on all continents, as evidenced by the northward and upward migration of species and the increase of forest dieback in response to not only harsher climate conditions but also to pest and disease epidemics resulting from unprecedented climatic events as well as the intensification of human activities. These phenomena have negative consequences for the functioning of forest ecosystems and the persistence of species and populations, as they threaten the availability of resources, disrupt population dynamics and call into question physiological limits and resistance to pathogens. The future of natural forest tree populations in the face of climate change, given their sessile nature and long generation times, is therefore worrying, whether in terms of extinction, ability to migrate or adapt through genetic change. From a conservation point of view, we need to understand the extent to which forest trees will be able to survive in the face of current and future climate change. The huge amount of genomic data available from next-generation sequencing tools is revolutionising our understanding of the genetic basis of adaptation. In turn, it is accelerating the development of new statistical methods that can predict the genomic vulnerability of forest trees to climate change in space and time, and determine the potential for genetic maladaptation under changing climatic conditions. In this PhD thesis, I used maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.), a long-lived conifer native to the western part of the Mediterranean basin, as a case study to unravel the spatial patterns of genetic variation at the range-wide and regional scales function of different gradients, anticipate population responses to climate change and provide insight into current trends in natural selection. The first chapter aims to understand how, at the scale of the species range, genetic variation, adaptability and the potential for short-term maladaptation to future climatic conditions are distributed from the range core towards the geographical and climatic margins. The second chapter examines the spatial patterns of contemporary natural selection by analysing phenotypic changes in response to current selective pressures, and provides an overview of current trends in local adaptation to climate change for maritime pine in the wild. The third chapter aims to identify the spatial patterns of genetic variation of maritime pine in the Corsica Island, characterized by specific features and constituting valuable genetic resources for the species, and to analyse their current 4 and future adaptive capacities to climate change. Overall, this PhD thesis studies the underlying drivers and potential of maritime pine adaptive responses to changing environmental conditions at different spatial and temporal scales, thus contributing to the development of an integrative framework essential for anticipating population responses to climate change, on the basis of which robust predictions for conservation and management strategies can be developed
Salinas, Rojas Andrea. "Dynamiques territoriales dans la gestion des ressources forestières des espaces protégés du Mexique : le cas du Nevado de Toluca". Thesis, Lyon, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016LYSE3051.
Texto completo da fonteThis research concerns the Nevado de Toluca (Mexico), a protected area where the goal of forest conservation, while being hardly reached, calls into questions the livelihoods of rural populations. Territorial dynamics which ensue from these tensions are examined. The question concerns essentially the confrontation between the forest preservation such as it is carried by the public authorities on one hand, and on the other hand, the vital needs for the agricultural populations affected by the followed policies. The main hypothesis is that policies of forest preservation do not reach the expected results because there is no global vision exceeding the sectorial approaches of institutions in presence, and especially because the opinion of the farmers is not enough taken into account, due to lack of a thorough knowledge of the rural societies. To restore this knowledge, the research method consisted mainly, besides the mobilized documentation, of numerous interviews with the inhabitants of several localities of Nevado, with the various institutional actors and with the forest experts who participate in the preservation of this protected space. Using the TXM software, these interviews were analysed employing a quali-quantitative analysis on the “textometric” type. Among the main obtained results, we shall hold in particular the fact that the local populations have very contrasted social representations of their environment while having a full consciousness of the ecological challenges. They feel the limitations of use, in particular some wood of fire, as a social injustice. However, socio-spatial configurations and original territorial dynamics exist, and depend on the geographical context, in particular the phenomena of spatial and social proximity. The social cohesion of the groups is important and will be all the stronger as his members share the same cultural values, including religious ones. We also notice that the distance of the city produces paradoxically endogenous dynamics of organization which may also be a basis for an integrated protection policy in spite of the constraints of everyday life. All in all, this thesis suggests a reflection around arbitration between the forest preservation and the socioeconomic impacts on the rural poorest population groups. She invites to think of the justice environmental as of the fruit of the social innovation

Texto completo da fonteThe deforestation of the Amazon forest will produce to medium-term the depletion of the genetic diversity, or even worst, the extinction of vegetal species. For promising species like Oenocarpus bataua (Arecaceae), the genetic erosion lead to the impoverishment of the genetic pool which is the raw material for future domestication programs. In this context, this research was addressed to explore the genetic, biochemical and ecological variability of a palm species largely used by the indigenous communities and householder of the Amazonia. Oenocarpus bataua Mart. Is a monoecious, out-crossed, and wild palm widely distributed in the tropical regions of northern part of South America. Its fruits are highly valued due to their oleaginous properties. This approach was structured within three different taxonomic levels in order to answer several questions about the taxonomy of this species: (i) Generic level. The taxonomic position of O. Bataua has been subject to numerous changes between Oenocarpus and the monospecific genus Jessenia. A molecular phylogeny with cpDNA gives support to the inclusion of Jessenia within Oenocarpus genus. (ii) Infraspecific level The biological variability of O. Bataua has only been studied with morphological traits. These studies have identified two major varieties within this species: bataua from western and central Amazonia and oligocarpa from Guayanas region. A genetic study with AFLP data and a biochemical approach using fatty acids reveals a significant genetic and biochemical differentiation between these varieties. This result has a particular interest, since previous botanical works have recognized both populations as two different species. An additional evidence of the molecular divergence between bataua and oligocarpa varieties comes from the chloroplastic sequences and a polymorphism of inversion used as molecular marker to characterize both varieties. (iii) Population level To improve the knowledge of the natural history of this species, an ecological study at regional scale was carried out to document the ecological preferences of O. Bataua in Western Amazon. This approach showed that O. Bataua forms an ecocline throughout the Western Amazonia, with edaphic specialized populations on the extremes of its geographical range, and generalist populations on intermediate areas of its range. In addition, a genetic study was performed to explore the genetic structure and its association with the ecological differentiation of this palm specie. This latter study reported that wild population of O. Bataua are not discrete group of genotypes, but rather behave as open units with a strong genetic connectivity. This dissertation gives new insights on the biological differentiation of O. Bataua populations using different sets of data, but also it was our interest to gather new information to valorize this valuable natural resource threatened by the deforestation and the destructive extractivism
