This study speaks about the theme of biblical prophetism in Micah (Mic 3,9-12). In a devastated land, where there are no more prophets, the rescue of prophetism as a mission to denounce injustice and announce the right, more specifically in relation to the vulnerable, is justified. The objective of this study is to understand the prophetic acts of Micah, appropriating them as a key for reading today, in the light of the History of Salvation, conceptualizing resistance as a rescue of the human relationship with the earth, as a sacred connection with the Promise of God to his People. This intent will be achieved through a bibliographic review and a biblical-theological approach, seeking to reflect and rescue the meaning of the text according to the historical context experienced with the political-religious leaders in Micah (Mic 3,9-12). In investigating the rupture of the Alliance, loss of land ownership, loss of the bond as a nation in Israel, experienced by contemporary peasants to Micah, it seeks to delimit the responsibility for the relativization of the right to land as a sacred alliance, and consequent loss of the condition of identity as People of God. Results: The study seeks to demonstrate the social function of the prophet as a decoder of the historical, timeless moment, driven by the force of indignation, from which comes his resistance, not solitary, but, solidary, supported by the collective and community dream, organized and possible. Final Considerations: The research intends to base biblically and theologically the rescue of human dignity in urban peripheries, building the just city, founded on urban agroecology and the bliss of simplicity.

Starting with the very simplified overview of reception of the Old Testament in the Gospel of Matthew, the author aims to make the use of the two quotations from the collection of the Book of the Twelve more concrete. The first quote is from the Book of prophet Micah (5:1). It also appears in Mt (2:6), in relation to the birthplace of Jesus Christ, while the second quote is found in the Book of prophet Zechariah (13:7) and it tackles the shepherd metaphor (Mt 36:31). In the first case, we are putting the emphasis on the change concerning the reading of the Old Testament, having in mind that the Greek text of Micah brings the phrase: ὀligostὸs eἶ toῦ eἶnai ἐn chiliάsin Ioyda ("though you are small among the clans of Judah''), while the author of the Gospel of Matthew reads it with the help of the litotes ὐdamῶs ἐlachίse eἶ ἐn toῖs ἡgemόsin Ἰoύda ("by no means least among the rulers of Judah''). At last, we conclude that Bethlehem cannot be in any case perceived as it was before, as 'from you will come the one who leads, who will take care of my people of Israel' (ἐc soῦ gὰr ἐxeleύsetai ἡgoύmenos, ὅstis poimaneῖ tὸn laόn moy tὸn Ἰsraήl). As for the reception of Zechariah (13:7) in Mt (26:31), we should consider the quote that appears also in Mk (14:27). The quote in the Gospel of Matthew is under strong influence of the Masoretic Text and the Damascus Document, with further distancing from Septuagint and Targum. At the same time, there is a parallel drawn between the prophecies of Peter's abstinence, and the Christological reason is given (ἐn ἐmoὶ) for dispersing of the Apostles, which is the case in Mt (11:6; 13:56) as well. Apart from being drastically shortened in comparison to the first place of the appearance, the quote in the Gospel of Matthew brings the whole spectrum of philological virtues that brings it closer to the (possible) Hebrew Vorlage (Original).

The Zimbabwean Catholic Bishops’ Conference issued a pastoral letter on 14 August 2020. Its title, “The March is not Ended”, echoed the words of the late American civil right activist and politician John Robert Lewis. In the introduction, the bishops reminded their fellow citizens that “Peace building and nation-building are never completed tasks. Every generation has to establish national cohesion and peace”. In using the biblical text from Micah 7:1–6 where the prophet denounced corruption and oppression in his own days, the bishops took a swipe at Zimbabwean political leaders. African politicians never take responsibility for their misrule of the continent, which has kept Africa largely underdeveloped. The perplexity of the situation in Zimbabwe is reflective of similar situations in other parts of sub-Saharan Africa where leaders look the other way and shift blames. This research undertakes to explore how the Catholic Church in Africa has fared in its prophetic mission in relation to the political-cum-socioeconomic questions on the continent. It will acknowledge instances where the Church, through certain prelates, has proven itself to be a moral conscience. It will also indicate how the efforts of African bishops closely align with those of Pope Francis in relation to the prophetic mission of the Church as a defender of truth, human rights and social justice. Contribution: Africans, like most people in the world, have a very simple vision of the good life: to live in reasonable material comfort and in peace. This research is essentially anchored within Catholic social teaching. It underscores how the Catholic Church in Africa has defended and continues to uphold the rights of the people to actualize their aspiration of a simple good life in a hostile and self-serving African political and socioeconomic context. It notes that the Church cannot take the place of political leaders because its role is basically the promotion of the common good, which includes public order and peace, development, equality, justice and solidarity.

The universal definition of acute myocardial infarction (MI) requires both evidence of myocardial injury and myocardial ischaemia. In MINOCA (MI with non-obstructive coronary arteries), patients must fulfil this MI criteria, but is their chest pain similar to those who have MI with obstructive CAD (MICAD)? This study compares prospectively collected chest pain features between patients with MINOCA and MICAD. Utilising the Coronary Angiogram Database of South Australia (CADOSA), consecutive MI patients were categorized as MINOCA or MICAD based on angiographic findings. Chest pain data were collected via direct patient interviews by trained staff members. Of 6811 consecutive patients fulfilling a clinical MI diagnosis, 411 (6.0%) were MINOCA, and 5948 MICAD. The MINOCA patients were younger, more often female and had less cardiovascular risk factors than those with MICAD. There were no significant differences in chest pain characteristics between the MINOCA and MICAD cohorts in relation to pain location, quality, associated symptoms, or duration. In conclusion, MINOCA patients have chest pain characteristics that are indistinguishable from MICAD patients, suggesting that their pain is ischaemic in nature. Thus, in the presence of positive myocardial injury markers, ischaemic chest pain fulfils the universal criteria for MI, despite the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease.

Abstract Hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2 negative (HER2−) breast cancer has a long-term risk of recurrence, compared with other breast cancer subtypes, which ultimately impacts mortality outcomes. Although adjuvant endocrine therapy plays an integral role in risk reduction, disparities persist—with Black women experiencing higher mortality rates compared to White women. Multiple studies have demonstrated that statin use can lead to a reduction in breast cancer mortality, but there is limited information in relation to the impact of statins among diverse patient populations in the United States. To assess whether statin use is associated with an improvement in breast cancer-specific mortality (BCSM), we conducted a large, observational study in women aged 66 and older diagnosed with Stage I–IIIC HR+, HER2- breast cancer between 2013 and 2017. We identified eligible women using the SEER-Medicare database and linked them to the BRIDGE (BReast cancer Investigation of Disparities in GEorgia) cohort, a survivorship cohort of the Georgia Cancer Registry. Patients needed to be continuously enrolled in Medicare Parts A, B, and D in the 12 months following a breast cancer diagnosis. We used Cox proportional hazards models to estimate the impact of statin use within 12 months of diagnosis on BCSM with adjustment for age, stage, and race using multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs). A total of 2483 participants were identified, and of those, 303 (12.2%) were statin users, 383 (15.4%) were non-Hispanic Black women, and 1564 (63%) resided in census tract with greater than or equal to 10% poverty levels at the time of diagnosis. Distribution of age, stage, and race were similar between statin and non-statin users. Of the statin users, 41/303 (13.5%) were non-Hispanic Black women. The majority of statin users were prescribed lipophilic statins alone (169; 55.8%), and atorvastatin was the most commonly prescribed statin. There was no association between statin use and BCSM (HR 1.09; 95% CI 0.62-1.90) in the multivariable-adjusted model. Although preliminary results suggest that there is no association between statin use and BCSM among women with Stage I–IIIC HR+, HER2− breast cancer, further analyses are planned to explore statin use as a time-varying exposure, which may provide additional insights into the potential relationship between statin use and BCSM. In addition, analyses examining potential heterogeneity by race, tumor and treatment characteristics, and comorbidities are forthcoming. Given the low cost and relative accessibility of statins, we anticipate these findings will inform the clinical management of women with operable breast cancer, increasing parity in outcomes and potentially narrowing race disparities. AbstractA combination of ion-microprobe (for Li) and electron-microprobe (for other major elements including F) methods has been used to analyse Li-rich micas from the S.W. England batholith (mainly the St Austell granite) and the Massif Central, France. Rocks showing various degrees of hydrothermal alteration were studied in order to separate the original compositional trends from alteration trends. The original compositional trend is essentially one of increasing Li with increasing degree of evolution. The main atomic substitution in the original micas is 3Li substituting for A1 and 2 vacancies in octahedral sites; substitution of Li forR2+(Fe, Mn, Mg) in octahedral co-ordination is generally subordinate. Alteration trends involve a loss of Li, Fe, F, Rb and Cs, and a gain in A1. The effects of volatile elements on phase relations of granites are reviewed and it is concluded that the original Li-micas were primary, i.e. crystallized from the melt. It is suggested that the late-magmatic stage passed transitionally into the hydrothermal stage leading inevitably to subsolidus recrystallization (autometasomatism) of the primary minerals, so introducing further textural and mineralogical complexities to the rocks.

AbstractA major disadvantage of the electron microprobe is its inability to determine Li, which may make up an essential component in micaceous minerals. Correct classification of micas and proper calculation of their formulae require alternative methods. One of these is the indirect estimation of the lithium concentration by empirical approaches based on element correlations. Relationships between Li2O and SiO2 have long been used for this purpose; however, they are valid only for a limited range of mica compositions (i.e. Li-rich, Mg-poor varieties). In this paper we report the results from a renewed study of the correlation between Li2O and MgO contents in trioctahedral micas. It is demonstrated that the relations between both oxides are strongly dependent upon the geological environment in which the mica was formed. It is necessary to distinguish a ‘normal group’, which comprises micas from ‘common’ S- and I-type magmatic rocks and most metamorphic rocks , a ‘low Li-Mg group’, to which belong Fe-rich micas from non-alkaline rocks of A-type affinity, and a ‘high Li-Mg group’ which includes micas from either peraluminous or peralkaline igneous rocks and Mg-enriched wall-rocks. These wall rocks supplied additional magnesium to the mica-forming environment. We offer empirical expressions relating Li2O and MgO contents for these three types which, in many cases, allow a sufficiently good estimation of the lithium content in trioctahedral micas of widely varying compositions.

AbstractOver the last 50 years many definitions of element substitution series have been proposed for describing natural Fe-Li micas with complex chemical compositions. In order to compare these definitions and ascertain their reliability, a new geometric frame composed of ideal mica points, mica joins (segments), substitution vectors and substitution planes is constructed to express the entire substitution system of ideal Fe-Al-Li micas. The frame is built in composition space with the coordinate system (0; Si, AlVI AlIV, Fe2+, Li, □VI, K), but has a 3-dimensional analogue, i.e. a visual image.Using this frame, it has been proved that there are only five possible types of replacement for definitions of Fe-Li micas, and that all possible types have been suggested except the AlIV-constant. Furthermore, it has been proved that the main point in different definitions is that the replacement of Li by Fe2+ needs to be balanced with AlIV, AlVI, or □VI. In order to solve this problem, a set of formulae determining spatial relations between geometric elements in the frame is suggested. With these formulae, the abstract frame is suggested to be a datum system used to ascertain quantitatively the reliability of definition of natural Fe-Li micas.

This article deals with the relation of Micha Yosef Ben Gurion (Berdichevski)—one of the central formulators of the Zionist idea and of modern Hebrew literature—to the Zionist political sphere. As a wordly Jewish intellectual, Berdichevski attempted to establish a kind of Zionism that would allow Jewish individuals to engage in it as an act of their desires. In exploring how his carnal inclinations affected his vision of the political, I argue that Berdichevski's perception fails qualitatively by transposing its guiding sensual approach to the formulation of the new Jewish political sphere. As this article will show, Berdichevski's relation to the Jewish political revolution reveals a sometimes limited perception regarding the possibilities of freedom inherent in political activity and often contradicts his own aspiration to nurture the liberty of Jewish individuals.

In a Western post – Cold War era, the pharmaceutical industry, state, and capitalism have merged to regulate gender and sexual normativity. According to Paul Preciado in Testo Junkie, the illicit and self-regulated use of hormones destabilizes gender and sexual binaries, a methodology that he calls “gender hacking.” This article argues, however, that an expanded interpretation of Preciado's historical narrative and understanding of hacking could better account for how race mediates gender and sexual normativity. This piece offers a rereading of Preciado's analysis on the historical regulation of gender and sexuality by analyzing how race has been used to justify medical experimentation and management as a starting point for an intersectional perspective on hacking. Further, by building on José Muñoz's and micha cárdenas's readings of queer and racial futurity in relation to communalism and non-Western kinship formations, this article contends that an expansion of “gender hacking” toward “queer hacking” can read the intersections of racial, gender, and sexual resistance as processes that create glitches in the sociopolitical code of racial capitalism. By examining hacking as a social, rather than biological or digital, phenomenon, queer hacking uses spatial relations, communalism, and visions of futurity to discuss how potential frameworks for kinships and identities that operate outside Western norms can be created.

The cause of the oncological diseases in children and the specific spectrum of this pathology, with hemangiomas prevailing among benign tumors (BT), and leukemia, lymphomas, and neural tissue tumors among malignant neoplasms (MN), remains unknown. The authors studied the similarities and differences of the connections between environmental factors, benign tumors and MN, as well as the relations between BT and MN. The causality of the so-called “sporadic” fluctuations in the incidence of neoplasms and their relations with environmental factors were revealed. A hypothesis of environmentally-induced alternative oncogenesis is suggested. According to the hypothesis, fetal hemoglobin enhances environmentally-related oxidative stress (EROS), leading to epigenomic regulation disorder of SEMA 7A and MICAL family proteins in the endothelium, axon growth cone, and hematopoietic stem cells.

The legend of the forbidden love relationship between Joko Lancur and Dewi Amirah is much more than just an oral story. This story is still believed to be true so that it affects the socio-cultural life of the Ponorogo community in Indonesia. This study aims to describe the impact and function of the legend in the life of the people of Ponorogo. This study uses a sociology of literature perspective. Data were collected through 1) observation, 2) documentation, and 3) interviews with some informants. The results showed that the legend of Joko Lancur and Dewi Amirah is still deeply rooted in the social fabric of the people of Golan Village and Mirah Hamlet in Ponorogo. This legend is believed to be true by the communities in the two regions so it has an impact on the way they view the social relations between the two regions. The people of both regions believe that members of Golan community will never be able to live together with those of Mirah community. If this taboo is violated, bad things will happen. Even so, this legend functions as a means of 1) legalizing social institutions, 2) regulating community norms, 3) supporting education, and 4) strengthening community solidarity.

The killing of Micah Johnson by Dallas police using a teleguided exploding robot on 8 July 2016 is the first known example of the use of a killer drone by US law enforcement in the domestic arena. This repatriation of the drone, under conditions of racialized urban unrest designated as exceptional, was predicted by Didier Bigo and follows a familiar pattern whereby coercive security technologies are tested abroad before finding their way ‘home’ to arm police forces that are becoming increasingly paramilitary in style and conduct. I use the Dallas incident to probe the cogency and limits of ‘drone theory’ and to consider its application in domestic policing contexts. I work through three broadly delineated areas of scepticism about drone theory as it intersects with policing and, in so doing, develop my own account of the weaponized policing drone as a defining techno-cultural element within the emergent form of neoliberal political rationality I call ‘governance’.

The problem of mycotoxicosis is relevant for many livestock, pig and poultry farms, as well as for ensuring food security. In most cases, mycotoxin poisoning can take place in a latent form and manifest itself in the form of a decrease in productivity and growth retardation of animals, cicatricial digestion disorders, immunosuppression, etc. Therefore, the requirements of regulatory and technical documents clearly regulate the maximum allowable value of these contaminants in both feed and food raw materials. One of the modern ways to combat mycotoxins is the introduction of sorbents that bind to mycotoxins and prevent their absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. There are a large number of sorbents on the market. The range of complex feed additives of sorption action is expanding, therefore, it is of interest to determine their effectiveness. One of these sorbents is a natural mineral - shungite - an intermediate product between amorphous carbon and crystalline graphite, containing carbon (30%), quartz (45%) and silicate micas (20%). The purpose of the work is to study and evaluate the sorption capacity of shungite in relation to mycotoxins: aflatoxin B1, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone. Methods. The object of the study were samples of crushed shungite. In the process of work, experimental studies and evaluation of the sorption properties of shungite in vitro were carried out using the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. Results. When calculating and analyzing the sorption capacity of the mineral, high sorption properties with respect to mycotoxins were established, namely, aflatoxin B1 is sorbed by shungite by 99.2%, deoxynivalenol - by 99.9%, zearalenone - 99.8%, which makes it possible to recommend the mineral for use in veterinary medicine as a feed additive for the prevention of mycotoxicoses.

Anecdotes are literary products that contain different humour styles. Martin and colleagues stated that individuals use four humour styles, namely, affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive and selfdefeating humour styles. Two of these humour styles are positive and two are negative. People perform different functions in interpersonal relationships by using different humour styles. Anecdote is one of the most important elements of humour. One of the most important types of anecdotes in Turkish culture is Bektashi anecdotes. These anecdotes, which are formed within the Bektashi culture, have local and universal values. The most important situation that causes laughter in these jokes is disharmony. There are certain types in Bektashi anecdotes. There are certain behaviours that these types represent. In this study, it is aimed to examine Bektashi anecdotes with positive and negative humour styles. This study was carried out with the document analysis technique. In the examination, it was observed that different humour styles were used in different jokes. There are many themes related to affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive and self-defeating humour styles in Bektashi anecdotes. In Bektashi anecdotes in which affiliative humour is used, it is aimed to develop interpersonal relations. Using this humour style, Bektashi type interacts with people who have different beliefs and thoughts. With the self-enhancing humour style in Bektashi jokes, the individual develops in a positive way. Bektashi often uses this style when he comes into contact with himself. Bektashi ridicules and criticizes others by using aggressive humour. Themes related to positive humour styles are more common in Bektashi jokes. This situation highlights the function of Bektashi anecdotes to support personal development and social interaction. On the other hand, it is seen that the themes in the jokes associated with aggressive and self-defeating humour styles are appeared to be moderate. This shows that Bektashi anecdotes have a humanitarian basis.

AbstractOrdovician clastic rocks of the Antalya unit in SW Turkey bear mineralogical/geochemical evidence of Triassic extensional rift timing and spatial relations. The crystal chemistry of the phyllosilicate assemblages (illite, chlorite, kaolinite, mixed-layer illite-smectite, chlorite-vermiculite and chlorite-smectite) is consistent with the rock experiencing a multi-generational burial history. The appearance of kaolinite and illite-smectite-bearing rocks in the Antalya unit is characteristic of diagenetic-anchimetamorphic conditions and is of higher grade than their anchi-epizonal equivalents in other regions of the Tauride belt. Illites and chlorites are of both detrital and authigenic origin, whereas I-S and kaolinites are authigenic. Detrital micas have been altered to chlorite and K-white mica stacks in which relicts suggest the chlorites were derived from detrital biotites. The broad X-ray diffraction illite peaks show that they are composed both of illite and illite-smectite. Na,K-mica and paragonite occur within the chlorite-mica stacks as replacements of muscovite, probably driven by Na-rich solutions. The authigenic clays were formed within the microporous matrix and the interplanar spaces of {001} planes of chlorite-mica stacks, with textures independent of the bedding and foliation planes of the rocks. The authigenic chlorites exhibit higher Si and Fe and lower Mg contents than their detrital counterparts. Authigenic chlorite thermometry indicates rift-related temperatures of 50–150°C, whereas pre-rift detrital chlorites formed at temperatures of >200°C. Authigenic illite and illite-smectite are phengitic in composition and contain more Si, Mg, Fe and Ca and less Al and K than detrital K-white micas. The textural, mineralogical and chemical characteristics support the hypothesis that the mineral assemblages were a result of a two-step mode of formation with diagenetic overprints of previously anchizonal rocks in extensional basin conditions.

A linear viscoelastic plastic creep model of mica-quartzose schist is established by using the method of establishing combined-linear-component model based on triaxial creep test. The micro-structural changes of mica-quartzose schist during triaxial creep process are observed by using the scanning electron microscope test, based on that, the relation of macro-stress and macro-strain with porosity and damage variable are established through statistical damage theory and simplified mechanical model respectively, the creep damage variable is obtained by further derivation on the basis of above study. The creep damage variable is simplified according to the whole creep process curve, substitutes the simplified creep damage to the estabilished linear viscoelastic plastic creep model of mica-quartzose schist, considering the change of modulus and viscosity during creep process, a viscoelastic plastic damage model of mica-quartzose schist is established. The model parameters are got by segment fitting, the good consistency of the test curves and the fitted curves shows the right and reasonable of the creep model, it also shows that the model can well describe the nonlinear accelerated creep stage. Sensitivity analysis shows that parameter m has greater influence on the accelerated creep deformation than parameter a.

Results of crack growth observations on mica in water-containing environments are described. The study focuses on equilibrium crack states for reversed loading cycles, i.e., for initial propagation through virgin solid and subsequent retraction-repropagation through healed or misoriented-healed interfaces. Departures from these equilibrium states are manifest as steady-state forward or backward crack velocities at specific applied loads. The equilibria are thereby interpreted as quiescent, threshold configurations G = WE, with G the Griffith mechanical-energy-release rate and WE the Dupré work of adhesion, on crack velocity (v-G) diagrams. Generally, WE is found to decrease with concentration of water, in accordance with a Gibbs formalism. Hysteresis is observed in the forward-backward-forward crack propagation cycle, signifying a reduction in the adhesion energy on exposure of the open interface to environmental species prior to healing. This hysteresis is especially marked for those interfaces that are misoriented before healing, indicating that the structure of the underlying solid substrate as well as of the intervening fluid is an important consideration in the interface energetics. The equilibrium states for different environments can be represented on a simple energy-level diagram, as differences between thermodynamic end-point states: initial, closed-interface states refer to crystallographic bonding configurations ahead of the crack-tip adhesion zone; final, open interface states refer to configurations behind the crack-tip zone. The significance of this diagram in relation to the fundamental atomic structure of interfaces in fracture and other adhesion geometries, including implications concerning kinetics, is discussed.

The Hertzian indentation response of a machinable mica-containing glass-ceramic is studied. Relative to the highly brittle base glass from which it is formed, the glass-ceramic shows evidence of considerable “ductility” in its indentation stress-strain response. Section views through the indentation sites reveal a transition from classical cone fracture outside the contact area in the base glass to accumulated subsurface deformation-microfracture in the glass-ceramic. The deformation is attributed to shear-driven sliding at the weak interfaces between the mica flakes and glass matrix. Extensile microcracks initiate at the shear-fault interfaces and propagate into the matrix, ultimately coalescing with neighbors at adjacent mica flakes to effect easy material removal. The faults are subject to strong compressive stresses in the Hertzian field, suggesting that frictional tractions are an important element in the micromechanics. Bend-test measurements on indented specimens show that the glass-ceramic, although weaker than its base glass counterpart, has superior resistance to strength degradation at high contact loads. Implications of the results in relation to microstructural design of glass-ceramics for optimal toughness, strength, and wear and fatigue properties are discussed.

This study investigates the crystal structure, epitaxial relation, and magnetic properties in CoFe thin films deposited on a flexible mica substrate. The epitaxial growth of CoFe thin films was successfully achieved by DC magnetron sputtering, forming three CoFe(002) domains exhibiting four-fold symmetry on the mica substrate. A notable achievement of this work was the attainment of the highest anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) value reported to date on a flexible substrate. Additionally, it was observed that the magnetic characteristics of the CoFe films on the flexible mica substrate display reversibility upon strain release. More importantly, the AMR effect of epitaxial CoFe films on flexible mica shows lesser dependence on the crystalline orientation and remains the same under different bending states. These findings demonstrate the potential of utilizing CoFe films on flexible substrates to develop wearable magnetoresistance sensors with diverse applications.

AbstractThe pegmatite district of El Quemado (NW Pampean Ranges, NW Argentina) hosts several Ordovician pegmatite bodies of the LCT (Li, Cs, Ta) type. We present paragenetic assemblages for a set of samples from two of the El Quemado pegmatite groups, Santa Elena and Tres Tetas, and mineral chemistry analyses for gahnite, columbite-group minerals, tourmaline, micas, albite, microcline, and discuss the relation between their major element composition and the degree of evolution of pegmatite melts. The chemical composition of rare element minerals allows recognizing an evolutive trend reaching highly differentiated compositions, with complex paragenetic assemblages including Li-, Zr-, U-, Zn-, P-, Mn- and Ta-bearing minerals. The temperature of crystallization during the magmatic phase was below 400 °C. Non-pervasive hydrothermal alteration, testified by a moderate presence of phyllosilicates, affected the pegmatite bodies. Chlorite geothermometry indicates that the circulation of post-magmatic hydrothermal fluids occurred at a temperature ranging between 200 °C and 250 °C. The mineralogical features recognized in the El Quemado pegmatite rocks have implications for the metallogenesis of the region, suggesting that the pegmatites potentially contributed to the genesis of Ta-Nb oxide placer mineralizations.

This paper addresses the Adhesion of mica surface employing Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) as a surface force apparatus. AFM is commonly used for atomic and nano-scale surface measurements. Based on the relations between cantilever responses and tip–sample interaction, methods for quantitative evaluation of a sample's mechanical parameters are described and issues concerning the use of AFM are discussed. The measurement of the Force-Distance curve was performed implementing Atomic Force Spectroscopy (AFS). During these measurements, the static deflection of the cantilever is monitored as a function of piezoelectric element displacement. The recorded plot is then used to quantitatively measure the mechanical properties like adhesion and elastic modulus. Forces were measured by multiplying the distance by force constant of the cantilever thorough Hook's law. It was necessary to calibrate the force constant of the cantilever to perform a precise force measurement. Force-Distance curves were obtained in three different points on the surface of mica and Distant Dependant Measurement (DDM) was conducted 10 times per each point by 1.5s interval. Adhesion force was then calculated in every single curve and the final data was the mean of thirty different curves.

Abstract. This contribution examines the processes of subjectivation of transnational mobile female migrants from Eastern Europe, who work irregularly as domestic workers in Germany. Applying an intersectional framework, the working practices of female migrants are conceptualized as an expression of the interplay between technologies of the self and technologies of domination. Both are constitutive for the migrant subjects and they are thus analyzed as part of geopolitical constellations and economic power relations as well as being influenced by the European border and labor market regime.

ABSTRACTThe Miocene-Pliocene Macusani ash-flow tuffs and glasses from SE Peru are a rare example of two-mica felsic peraluminous volcanic rocks. They outcrop in three separate tectonic basins of the Cordillera Oriental in the Central Andes. In the Macusani field, the rocks are characterised by andalusite and muscovite phenocrysts. Compositions are both very felsic and peraluminous, similar to two-mica granites. Field relations, age differences and isotopic heterogeneities suggest that several distinct magma batches were involved. Two separate magmatic stages are recognised: (1) partial melting and evolution at or near the source region, and (2) shallow-level crystallisation and eruption. Magma genesis involved partial melting of metapelitic materials, with internally controlled. High heat flux, rapid heating, elevated temperatures and F-rich compositions were essential for the production of these mobile, H2O-undersaturated magmas. Chemical variations between the erupted products can be attributed to different degrees either of partial melting in somewhat variable source materials and (or) of fractional crystallisation at shallow levels. We discuss some important differences between the magmatic evolution of the Macusani Volcanics and of Hercynian and Himalayan two-mica granites.

AbstractMica pegmatites from the Bihar Mica Belt contain three distinct generations of tourmaline. The major-element composition, substitution vectors and trajectories within each group are different, which indicates that the three types of tourmalines are not a part of one evolutionary series. Rather, the differences in their chemistries as well their mutual microtextural relations, can be best explained by growth of tourmaline from pegmatitic melts followed by episodic re-equilibration during discrete geological events. The euhedral, coarse-grained brown type I tourmaline cores have relatively high Ca, Mg (XMgc. 0.37) and Al with correlated variation in Sr, Sc, Ti, Zr, Y, Cr, Pb and Rare Earth elements (REEs). They are inferred to have crystallized from pegmatitic melts. Monazites included within these tourmalines give chemical ages of 1290−1242 Ma interpreted to date the crystallization of the pegmatitic tourmaline. The bluish type II and greyish type III tourmalines with low Ca and Mg contents (XMg = 0.16−0.27) and high Zn, Sn, Nb, Ta and Na, formed by pseudomorphic partial replacement of the pegmatitic tourmaline via fluid-mediated coupled dissolution–reprecipitation, are ascribed to a hydrothermal origin. The ages obtained from monazites included in these tourmalines indicate two alteration events at c. 1100 Ma and c. 950 Ma. The correlated variation of Ca, Mg and Fe and the trace elements Sr, Sn, Sc, Zn and REE within the tourmalines indicates that the trace-element concentrations of tourmaline are controlled not only by the fluid chemistry but also by coupled substitutions with major-element ions.

Abstract The article is devoted to the study of the sorption properties of natural mineral sorbents from deposits located in the Ural (Sverdlovsk, Kurgan, Chelyabinsk regions). For the experiments, the following natural sorbents were used: bentonite clays with an admixture of carbonate inclusion; flasks - dense, slightly porous rocks consisting of the smallest particles of biogenic silica; diatomite; glauconites- layered low-temperature ferruginous micas; calcined vermiculite. The absorption capacity in relation to heavy metals: copper, zinc, lead, cadmium, nickel, chromium, arsenic has been investigated. The are no significant differences in the completeness of sorption between the studied sorbents, all of them can be successfully used under certain conditions for ecological and geochemical recultivation of soils contaminated with HMs. Separately, the influence of sorbents on the copper and chromium absorption as the largest soil pollutants in the Urals was considered. Experiments have shown that copper in the form of a bivalent cation is well sorbed by all sorbents, while chromium in the form of a complex anion (in a hexavalent form) is practically not sorbed. To ensure a proper chromium sorption effect, it was decided to preliminary transfer it into a trivalent cationic form by a reducing agent, which was ferrous ammonium sulfate - FeSO4·(NH4)2·SO4·6H2O. The reduction of chromium to a trivalent cation increases the sorption completeness to 94-99%.

Predictive diagenetic clay-mineral distribution in siliciclastic rocks as a tool for identifying sequence boundaries in non-marine successions: the Coalspur Formation, west-central AlbertaThe study of upper Cretaceous-lower Tertiary fluvial deposits of the Coalspur Formation in the Foothills region of west-central Alberta reveals that the distribution of early authigenic kaolinite has a well-defined relation to the sequence stratigraphic framework. In this context, it has been observed that the kaolin mineral content increases in sandstones lying below subaerial unconformities, which mark the most significant stratigraphic hiatuses and hence the sequence boundaries in fully fluvial successions. The increased abundance of authigenic kaolinite immediately below sequence boundaries may have been caused by the infiltration of meteoric water during times of subaerial erosion, resulting in the dissolution of unstable minerals (e.g., micas and feldspar) and the formation of kaolinite and secondary porosity. It is therefore suggested that the change in clay mineral assemblages in the stratigraphic section depends in part on the position of the analyzed sandstone samples relative to the sequence boundaries. In a larger context, the method of using authigenic clays to delineate depositional sequences in non-marine successions needs to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, as the diagnostic early diagenetic minerals underlying the sequence boundary may change as a function of palaeoclimate and also as a function of late diagenetic processes.

The SARS-CoV-2 disease presents different phenotypes of severity. Comorbidities, age, and being overweight are well established risk factors for severe disease. However, innate immunity plays a key role in the early control of viral infections and may condition the gravity of COVID-19. Natural Killer (NK) cells are part of innate immunity and are important in the control of virus infection by killing infected cells and participating in the development of adaptive immunity. Therefore, we studied the short tandem repeat (STR) transmembrane polymorphisms of the major histocompatibility complex class I chain-related A (MICA), an NKG2D ligand that induces activation of NK cells, among other cells. We compared the alleles and genotypes of MICA in COVID-19 patients versus healthy controls and analyzed their relation to disease severity. Our results indicate that the MICA*A9 allele is related to infection as well as to symptomatic disease but not to severe disease. The MICA*A9 allele may be a risk factor for SARS-CoV-2 infection and symptomatic disease.

A detailed quantitative petrographical and textural analysis of well core samples was performed in order to unravel their depositional processes and conditions, in relation to previously proposed depositional models. The results allowed differentiation between two groups of sandstone samples, characterized by different textural characteristics associated to different depositional processes and environments within the Mucuri depositional system. Fluvial sandstones are represented by medium- to coarse-grained, poorly sorted arkoses, rich in plutonic rock fragments and feldspar grains, mainly transported by traction. Coastal-lacustrine sandstones correspond to very fine- to fine-grained, moderately sorted micaceous arkoses, mainly transported in suspension. The application of a discriminant function based on grain-size parameters validated previously proposed depositional settings for the studied sample groups. The combination of grain-size and shape data revealed differences in hydraulic equivalence and shape between grains from different depositional settings. In terms of hydraulic equivalence, micas in the fluvial sediments present lower settling velocity values, in contrast to the relatively large mica grains in the coastal sediments, which are hydraulically equivalent with the associated quartz and feldspar grains. The results of this study provide key information regarding depositional conditions (transportation mechanisms, grain-settling velocity and mineral hydraulic fractionation) at the margins of the Aptian pre-salt system, which can constrain the hydrological conditions and the sediment type available for distal lacustrine areas.

Understanding mass transfer associated with fluids circultion and deformation in the Alpine orogeny is often complex due to common multistage crystallization. For example, in two emblematic and historic Pb-Ag deposits of the French Alps, Macôt-la Plagne (MP) and Peisey-Nancroix (PN), a sedimentary or orogenic origin is still debated. To discriminate between the metallogenic models of the two deposits, an integrative methodology combining field, microstructural, mineralogical, thermobarometrical, and geochronological data was here applied for establishing detailed Pressure–Temperature–Time–Deformation (P-T-t-d) mineralization conditions. Both deposits are located in Permo-Triassic quartzite of the External Briançonnais domain along the Internal Briançonnais Front (Internal Western Alps). The ore mainly occurs as veins and disseminated textures containing galena, pyrite, and variable content of tetrahedrite–tennantite and chalcopyrite. Quartz porphyroclasts and sulfide microstructures indicate a dynamic recrystallization of the quartzite during the main fluid mineralization episode. Chlorites and K-white micas (phengite) chemical analysis and thermodynamic modeling from compositional maps indicate an onset of the mineralization at 280 °C, with a main precipitation stage at 315 ± 35 °C and 6.25 ± 0.75 kbar. In situ U-Pb dating on monazite, cogenetic with sulfides, gives ages around 35 Ma for both deposits. The integrative dataset converges for a cogenetic MP-PN Alpine Pb-Ag mineralization during deformation in relation to the thrusting of the “Nappe des Gypses” and the Internal Briançonnais at the metamorphic peak.

Noninvasive studies of the central respiratory control are of key importance to understanding the physiopathology of central apneas and periodic breathing. The study of the brainstem and cortical-subcortical centers may be achieved by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during gas challenges (hypercapnia). Nonetheless, disentangling specific from non-specific effects of hypercapnia in fMRI is a major methodological challenge, as CO2 vasodilatory effects and physiological noise do strongly impact the BOLD signal. This is particularly true in deep brainstem regions where chemoreceptors and rhythm pattern generators are located. One possibility to detect the true neural-related activation is given by the presence of a supralinear relation between CO2 changes and BOLD signal related to neurovascular coupling in overactive neural areas. Here, we test this hypothesis of a supralinear relationship between CO2 and BOLD signal, as a marker of specificity. We employed a group-masked Independent Component Analysis (mICA) approach and we compared activation levels across different mixtures of inspired CO2 using polynomial regression. Our results highlight key nodes of the central breathing control network, also including dorsal pontine and medullary regions. The suggested methodology allows a voxel-wise parametrization of the response, targeting an issue that affects many fMRI studies employing hypercapnic challenges.

This paper examines how governance failure on behalf of the Irish Government led to the ‘mica’/defective blocks catastrophe. It will examine the governance process adopted by the Irish state in the ‘mica’ case and review the recommendations made in 2012 (Pyrite Panel, 2012) following a similar crisis – ‘pyrite’ and whether the Irish Government’s response to these recommendations were acted upon in a timely manner. It will further examine whether the government’s action/inaction in relation to these recommendations could have contributed to the scale of this mica crisis and whether it may have exacerbated this crisis further. This paper will also establish the key lessons to be learnt from this crisis. The findings of this research will be of value to Public Sector organisations /Government departments when considering governance approaches at a local and a national level that should be in place, in particular when permitting concrete products to be placed on to the marketplace. Finally, it will be of interest to other researchers/ academics interested in Governance at both an organisational and at a governmental level.

AbstractThe Tufiti di Tusa Formation, a siliciclastic turbidite system of lower Miocene age in southern Italy, is mainly composed of volcaniclastic and quartzolithic sandstones interbedded with mudrocks. Sandstones are subdivided into four distinctive petrofacies, evolving from quartzolithic to volcaniclastic lithofeldspathic and feldspatholithic, reflecting detrital evolution from growing orogen (quartzolithic petrofacies) to active volcanism (volcaniclastic petrofacies). The mineralogical composition of the associated mudrocks is predominantly characterized by phyllosilicates, mainly illite/smectite mixed layers (I/S R1 associated with minor amounts of I/S R0 in the lower part of the succession, and I/S R3 in its upper part), together with illite, detrital micas and chlorite, and minor amounts of chlorite/smectite mixed layers and kaolinite, in addition to quartz, calcite and feldspars. The most abundant phyllosilicates are I/S mixed layers, 10-Å minerals (illite and micas) and chlorite, while kaolinite and chlorite–smectite mixed layers are present as a few per cent or in trace amounts. X-ray diffraction patterns show the occurrence of the ordered I/S R1 mixed layers in most samples but, at the top of the succession, some samples are characterized by I/S R3 mixed layers, whilst in the lower part of the succession I/S R1 is associated with a lower amount of I/S R0. These features suggest that the Tufiti di Tusa Formation experienced a medium diagenetic grade, and the occurrence of I/S R3 could be explained by K-availability in samples in the upper part of the succession. The lithic fragments in sandstones are metasedimentary rocks of Palaeozoic age, and andesite to dacite volcanic rocks of early Miocene age. The associated mudrocks also contain trace element ratios (Cr/V, Y/Ni, La/Sc, Th/Sc, Th/Co, Th/Cr, Cr/Th and Eu/Eu*) consistent with a provenance containing intermediate to silicic sources with scarce or absent basic rocks. The chemical index of alteration (63.2 to 71.6) suggests a moderate degree of weathering in the source. Furthermore, the K/Cs ratios of sediments confirm likely moderate rather than intense weathering. The index of compositional variability (ICV) values (from 1.2 to 2.5) are high enough to suggest the mudrocks are first-cycle sediments with little recycling. The Al–Ti–Zr diagram and the Th/Sc v. Zr/Sc plot indicate poor sorting and rapid deposition of the sediments. Detrital and sedimentary evolution of the Tufiti di Tusa Formation provides constraints, in terms of relations between a growing orogenic system and active volcanism in the Central Mediterranean, to contribute to geodynamic and palaeogeographic reconstructions of the earliest collision in the southern Apennines region.

Mathematical modeling is the description of the reality in the language of the mathematics and formal logic which creates symbols, mathematical relation and also strictly determined rules of employing them (Jaworski, Micał 2005). This article is devoted to the structure of the model describing the process of increasing the capital value within the time which basis constitutes the calculations based on the rule of simple percentage. In its content are determined the chosen, basic terms associated with the financial activity of the bank (including interest rate, interest, discount). Mathematical models are also discussed enabling to count: the final capital for the initial capital with the fixed annual interest rate for the set time, the initial capital which generated the determined final capital with the fixed annual interest rate for the set time, the interest rate on the basis of the initial and final capital after certain time, the initial value of the loan for the amount of the payoff within the fixed discount rate within the certain time, the value of the commercial discount for one year on the basis of the initial value of the loan and the amount of its payoff. The presented content will supply the reader with the knowledge in calculations applied in the banks associated with the simple percentage. The article constitutes the example of combination of the theoretical knowledge with the practice and it also shows how important mathematical modeling is in the modern world.

ABSTRACT: The rocks of the Itambé Granite were identified southwest of the municipality of Estrela do Sul in the state of Minas Gerais, in the southern sector of the Brasília Belt, intrusive in lithotypes of the metasedimentary sequence of the Araxá Group. It is one of the seven Neoproterozoic stocks of the Suite Estrela do Sul Granite. From the geological surveys in scale 1:25.000, it was identified a stock composed of monzogranitic rocks arranged in an oval shape of approximately 6.2 km². The outcrops are predominantly characterized in block and thickets, defined by equi- a inequigranular rocks of fine to coarse granulation, hololeucocratic, anisotropic to isotropic and identified in six facies composed predominantly of quartz, microcline, oligoclase, biotite, muscovite (I and II), garnet, tourmaline, monazite, opaque minerals (hematite and ilmenite) and secondary minerals (epidote, calcite, leucoxene, iron hydroxide and clay minerals). They are rocks with contents between 67 and 70% of SiO2, high percentages of Al2O3 and K2O, in addition to high concentrations of Rb, Ba, Th, you and K and enriched in light rare earth elements in relation to heavy ones. They are peraluminous, sin-collisional, high potassium to shoshonitic leucogranite, with granite signature to two S-type micas, generated by the partial crustal fusion of metasedimentary rocks, deep crustal levels, associated with crustal thickening in a continental volcanic arc environment, associated with the end of the evolution of the Brasília Orogenic Belt.
