The relevance of the article is due to the search for new forms and methods of creating recreation that correspond to the time and social needs. In accordance with the method of experimental design, on the example of the territory of the industrial hub ‘Fabrychnyi’ (Dnipro), the rationality of using the cluster approach to the creation of recreational facilities was demonstrated. It is noted that the cluster is both a flexible structural unit of the regional system of recreation and tourism, and a self-sufficient form of territorial organization with its own system of connections and relations. The purpose of the project is to empty the territory from industrial buildings for recreation, as well as to redevelop industrial buildings of historical, architectural and aesthetic value into cultural ones. The main focus of the project is to create an exhibition and museum complex with an ‘open-air museum’ and develop pedestrian infrastructure in the park. The article considers the possibility of creating a recreational cluster, which will ensure certain continuity of natural framework, regarding its multi-vector formation in the urban structure. This connection of the recreational cluster with water area, will allow reestablishing a pedestrian and recreational framework in the city. It is established that the introduction of a cluster approach will contribute to the greening of the city, and will affect the modeling of ecological infrastructure.

The debate between building new sport and recreation facilities or renovating existing venues has engrossed sport managers (Barghchi, Omar, & Aman, 2009; Galvan, 2006; Grant-Long, 2005; Rosentraub & Ijla, 2008; Seifried, 2010). Interestingly, the individuals entrusted with making investment decisions on these facilities often lack knowledge of this process. Many sport management programs include courses related to facility management; however, they rarely include curriculum items on the renovation of culturally valuable sport and recreation buildings. The main purpose of this paper is to propose heritage management as an important component to sport and recreational facility management and to showcase an example of this initiative that was incorporated into a facility management class. This teaching methodology on heritage management allows students to understand how to create valuable contributions to their field while simultaneously learning about the culture and history of sport venues.

The article deals with the relevance of the renovation of children's camps, the development of new approaches to design and their modernization, which is related to the moral and physical wear and tear of existing children's recreation camps. The main tasks for recreation and use of the territories of children's camps are defined. Today, children's camps quite often undergo renovation, which is caused by the non-compliance of the existing buildings and structures of the camp territory with modern standards and requirements. Renovation is a modern alternative to demolishing buildings and building new ones. It allows you to save time and material costs and allows you to adapt existing buildings to modern needs. In the article, the general vectors of recreation development are formed, which are aimed at solving tasks related to the review of the planning, functional and temporary use of the territory of recreation camps. The main ones are: multi-functionality, barrier-free environment, social communicability, self-scaling, architectural and artistic design, beautification of the territory, environmental friendliness, implementation of partnership development, and year-round. Examples of the combination of development vectors in the renovation of children's camps are also given, which show that the camp can be modern, multifunctional, ecological and interesting.

Methods of geoinformation analysis and geomodelling are used for the implementation of urban zoning. Recreational land use is a complex spatial system. The main task of recreational areas is to restore the strength and health of the population. Recreational areas consist of climatic, engineering and technical elements. Currently, creative and adaptive recreation is developing. These types of recreation fill the deficit of traditional recreational areas. The decrease in recreational areas is due to the construction of buildings. Recreational areas lose their natural properties. The financing of recreational infrastructure is reduced. In the article the geoinformation analysis of recreational provision of the city of Novosibirsk is executed. An original method of constructing a network of evaluation blocks is proposed. The analysis of the spatial location of residential and transport infrastructure. Information on the population and area of recreational facilities was used to calculate the recreational provision. As a result of geoinformation analysis it was found that 26% of the city residents are provided with recreational areas. 73% of residents do not have recreational facilities near the house.

Binjai is one of the cities included in the Mebidangro development project which includes Medan City, Binjai City, Deli Serdang Regency, and Karo Regency. Strategic location located on the road cross Sumatera make Binjai City a prosperous city in its development. The economic condition of the city of Binjai in the previous few years continues to increase, in the sector of Large and Retail Trade. Based on survey results, the city of Binjai still needs a center of excellence and recreational facilities such as cinemas and eating places to improve the economic quality of the city. The adhesive of East Binjai Shopping and Recreation Center is expected to meet those needs. The hot temperature of the city of Binjai becomes the designer's choice of theme "Green Architecture" as the design theme. It is considered very suitable for heat temperature to the building. A design approach that carries the theme of Green Architecture can create environmentally friendly buildings. Implementation of this theme is also useful to save the operational costs of the building.

In the modern world, sports facilities are multifunctional complexes that not only meet the needs of the sports infrastructure but also serve as recreational facilities. Sports buildings and facilities are constructed using large-span structures and require significant urban areas for their erection. The paper discusses the results of research carried out by the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, which provides for the efficient use of the building area of sports facilities and the reduction of the cost of facilities through the use of space within the large-span structures for the placement of a large number of sports infrastructure facilities. The key issue in solving the problem of compactness of the developed area is the use of large-span structures of intermediate floors. Based on the selected cases, the authors classify approaches in the design of sports buildings, based on the use of three types of large-span floor structures: steel-reinforced concrete floor slab, load-bearing floor, and building-bridge. The authors conclude that these approaches can be used in the design of various types of sports facilities: from the municipal level of sports and recreation complexes to facilities designed for major international competitions.

<p>With the rise of available computing capabilities, structural analysis has recently become a key tool for building assessment usually managed by art historians, curators, and other specialist related to the study and preservation of ancient buildings. On the other hand, the flourishing field of procedural modeling has provided some exciting breakthroughs for the recreation of lost buildings and urban structures. However, there is a surprising lack of literature to enable the production of procedural-based buildings taking into account structural analysis, which has proven to be a crucial element for the recreation of faithful masonry structures. In order to perform an in-depth study of the advances in this type of analysis for cultural heritage buildings, we performed a study focused on procedural modeling that make use of structural analysis methods, especially in its application to historic masonry buildings such as churches and cathedrals. Moreover, with the aim of improving the knowledge about structural analysis of procedurally-recreated historical buildings, we have taken a geometric structure, added a set of procedural walls structured in masonry bricks, and studied its behavior in a generic, freely-available simulation tool, thus showing the feasibility of its analysis with non-specialized tools. This not only has allowed us to understand and learn how the different parameter values of a masonry structure can affect the results of the simulation, but also has proven that this kind of simulations can be easily integrated in an off-the-shelf procedural modeling tool, enabling this kind of analysis for a wide variety of historical studies, or restoration and preservation actions.</p>

Beginning in the mid 19th Century, intercontinental railroad service made it possible for theatrical road companies to move more freely across America and perform in the smaller community opera houses. This thesis is about one of these opera houses, the Homestake Opera House in Lead, South Dakota. This thesis chronicles the events from the conception of the opera house by Pheobe Hearst and Thomas Grier, to the construction of the structure, 1911 through 1914, and finally through some of the events that took place in the opera house from the opening in August, 1914 to late November, 1936, at which time the opera house was converted into a movie house. Focus is given to the road companies that performed in the opera house within the time period specified. Such performances are chronicled by date, company name, title and type of performance, and names of the author(s).

AbstractThe formative years of the British Mandate over Palestine marked a period of profound changes, in which cultural transformation manifested in a rapid growth of modern leisure, new recreation sites and cultural patterns in the urban centres of Palestine. These processes were significantly evident in Haifa as the city had been chosen by the British as the economic and effectively political capital of Palestine. This chapter scrutinises the rapid cultural changes that unfolded, analysing the significant role of Christian communities in this process. It examines the ways in which Christians’ connections with European powers contributed to their crucial involvement in developing the city’s cultural life and how Christians’ engagement in cultural activities strengthened their Palestinian identity in a period of intensive nation-building.

AbstractDeveloping, implementing, and sustaining schools as community hubs is not necessarily easy. Nevertheless, the potential gains for students, parents, carers, and members of the wider community may be significant, as has been documented internationally. Drawing on information from a range of research activities, this chapter outlines the process undertaken by a multi-disciplinary research team to create a framework for planning, designing, governing, and managing schools as community hubs. The ‘How to Hub Australia’ framework offers evidence-based advice on school infrastructure provision and management linked to the activities, programs and services that may be offered from school sites in addition to schooling. Commonly, these include early years and adult education, organised sports, recreation, library and information services, visual and performing arts activities, and health and wellbeing services. The framework is intended to help policymakers, school leaders, and designers overcome the uncertainties and perceived obstacles that tend to limit the provision and use of school facilities for broader community benefit. If it were simpler, would it happen everywhere? This chapter argues that community-facing schools could become commonplace, rather than exceptional, through the establishment of effective and enduring partnerships and updates to governance and funding models.

AbstractThe Norwegian outfields make up convoluted more-than-human public spaces. Throughout its nation-building process, being an outdoor culture combining hikers, trekkers, and skiers has been inscribed into the national identity of Norway. Facilitated by allemannsretten (the right to roam), the recreational leisure use of the outfields has however increased and diversified steadily during recent decades. The contestations that have accompanied the manifold and growing use of allemannsretten have unveiled that the obligation to utilise the right ‘with consideration and due care’ implies responsibilities that are altogether unclear. In this chapter, Brynhild Granås approaches the moral practices of outdoor people through an embodied exploration of the knowing–caring nexus based on autoethnographic engagements with her own lifelong practising of a mobile outdoor life in Arctic Norway. By describing how proximity, in terms of corporeal engagements with a landscape, incites learning and energises commitment and care, the chapter suggests that landscapes grow upon us as relatable moral substances through encounters that connect to and are invigorated by the morally evocative spaces of outdoor lives. The perspective takes us beyond historical and geographical dichotomies through investigations of how care and commitment are remoulded by more-than-human relational ethical practices.

Accounts of architecture published in later seventeenth-century England devote inordinate attention to the Latinate vocabulary of classical ornament. That emphasis is readily explicable in terms of architecture’s social and intellectual prestige when construed as an art, as opposed to a business, though the vocabulary itself was an unstable source of distinction. This essay uses three illustrations of the ‘Art’ of architecture in Richard Blome’s The Gentleman’s Recreation (1686), and the building contractor Thomas Fitch’s sponsorship of two of them, to explore how Fitch and his fellow builders secured their social status. As his association with The Gentleman’s Recreation’s conventionally attenuated version of architecture suggests, Fitch’s means were largely the accepted ones of landownership, escutcheons, patronage and clientage. Yet some of his peers sought, and gained, social as well as professional recognition through their skill in getting large buildings solidly on the ground.

Protected areas residents seek to reconstruct, modernize the existing buildings, in such a way the landscape is being changing. The evaluation of the structures belonging to one hundred park’s homesteads showed that the existing older buildings roof covering is from grey asbestos slates (56 %). In recent years, ceramic tiles and non-asbestos slates are being increasingly used as roofing material, wood (characteristic for grey colour) is usually used for building wall decoration (48 %). These colours correspond to the regulated by the park management regulations. The Regional Park landscape is blemished by the ruins of abandoned buildings, individual illegal structures, unsuitable colours selected for building exteriors decoration, the recommended window division into four or six sections is not being kept to.

The Housing Program of Social Interest aims to provide the access to adequate housing for low-income population segments in urban and rural areas. To be considered financially viable, this popular construction type shouldt have basic attributes, in finishing as well as in recreation areas. According these parameters, it is common among builders to look for economic buildings, forgetting the analysis of building performance, the main objective of ABNT NBR 15575. According to the procedures and requirements of this standard, a case study was carried out aims analyzing the thermal performance of main vertical sealing and ceiling materials used in a standard Minha Casa, Minha vida project, comparing them with the cost, in order to find the low-cost model for this type of building without impairing performance. Twelve design combinations were simulated in the Design Builder software to evaluate the thermal performance according to the Brazilian performance standard and their costs were estimated for each alternative. The results compare the models pointing to the best cost benefit ratio, being the system with soil-cement walls and without ceiling the best option.

Purpose – to reveal the scientific approach to the regional policy in the field of research, use and increase the recreational potential of the regions of Ukraine, creating an effective mechanism for the development of the recreational system of the region due to an in-depth study of the recreational system potential, the quality of the recreational environment and highlighting its special structure. As a sub-goal of the study was determined the identification of factors affecting the competitiveness of the recreational system of the regions, which will make it possible to clarify the directions of activities to increase the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sector of the economy of Ukraine. Findings – the paper proposes the mechanism of well-balanced mutual development of humanʼs health and recreational system management. Research limitations – the study addresses the problem of using recreational potential in such a way that, as a result of its use, the least damage is inflicted on the territory and on the population. To determine the direction of development were identified as “sore spots” groups of the recreational system. To solve this problem has been proposed a mechanism for the balanced development of the recreational system, which will allow: 1) to maintain and develop the existing recreational potential; 2) to increase the share of regional profits from the use of recreational potential. Methodology – the methodology and research tools are based on the methods of theoretical generalization, refinement of the conceptual apparatus, logical-structural modelling, scientific argumentation, and comparative analysis. Practical implications – the practical significance lies in the fact that the article reveals the problematic issues of recreation in Ukraine and suggests a mechanism for the management and sustainable development of the countryʼs recreational potential. The use of the proposed mechanism will lead to an increase in the incomes of the regions from the exploitation of the recreational potential and will create the conditions for the preservation of the recreational systems themselves. Originality/Value – the article value lies in the fact that it proposes a mechanism for the balanced development of the recreational system and the person in it; carried out the allocation of recreational management in a special function of the recreational system. The relationship between the development strategies of the recreational system and the assessment of the recreational competitiveness of the region is shown.

The US Congress codified the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), the nation’s most effective cultural resources legislation to date, mostly through establishing the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The NHPA requires federal agencies to address their cultural resources, which are defined as any prehistoric or historic district, site, building, structure, or object. The precursor to the Corps of Engineers erected the mole (a.k.a., the south pier) in the early 1820s at the entrance to the Buffalo harbor. The area on top of and surrounding the mole was modified through the past two hundred years, many of the character-defining features remain including the stone retaining walls, talus, stairs, and lighthouse identified in plans and drawings from the period of construction. Notably lost is the stone tow path, or banquette, and the stone incline on the south side of the mole is no longer visible. The researchers recommend a period of significance of c. 1820 through 1972 (50 years) since the mole has continued its original use of keeping the entrance to the Buffalo River open for freight and recreational boating traffic through the present day.

Dam removal has become a widespread river management practice in the US for a variety of goals including ecosystem restoration, removing aging infrastructure, flood risk management, and recreation. The ability to forecast the sediment impacts of dam removal is critical to evaluating different management alternatives that can minimize adverse consequences for ecosystems and human communities. Tullos et al. (2016) identified seven Common Management Concerns (CMCs) associated with dam removal. Four of these CMCs; degree and rate of reservoir sediment erosion, excessive channel incision upstream of reservoirs, downstream sediment aggradation, and elevated downstream turbidity are associated with stored sediment release and changing fluvial hydraulics. There are a range of existing qualitative and quantitative tools developed to infer or quantify geomorphic implications of disturbances like these in river environments (McKay et al. 2019). This study investigated how a one-dimensional (1D) sediment transport model can inform these four CMCs, develop an approach for assessing sediment transport model sensitivity in the context of the Simkins Dam removal, and use sensitivity analyses to identify key uncertainties, which can inform data collection and model building for other dam removal projects. For the selected case study, model outputs including the mean effective invert change (MEIC) and eroded sediment volume from reservoir were highly sensitive to the variation of the reservoir sediment gradation and sorting method selection. These model outputs also showed some sensitivity to the selected transport functions. Erosion method sensitivity using the channel evolution method will vary depending on side slope and channel parameter selection.

Human activity has modified and deteriorated natural ecosystems in ways that reduce resilience and exacerbate environmental and climate problems. Physical measures to protect, manage and restore these ecosystems that also address societal challenges in sustainable ways and bring biodiversity benefits are sometimes referred to as “nature-based solutions” (NBS). For example, reducing deforestation and restoring forests is a major opportunity for climate mitigation, while protecting or restoring coastal habitats can mitigate damage to coastal areas from natural hazard events, in addition to potentially providing co-benefits related to livelihood, recreation, and biodiversity. There is now an impetus to shift towards greater deployment of nature-based solutions. Not only do they offer an alternative to conventional fossil fuel-based or hard infrastructure solutions but, if implemented correctly, they also hold great promise for achieving multiple goals, benefits and synergies. These include climate mitigation and resilience; nature and biodiversity protection; and economic and social gains. 2020 saw an explosion in publications about NBS, which have contributed to filling many of the knowledge gaps that existed around their effectiveness and factors for their success. These publications have also highlighted the knowledge gaps that remain and have revealed a lack of critical reflection on the social and economic sustainability aspects of NBS. Building on these gaps, we decided to launch this mini-series of four briefs to provoke a more nuanced discussion that highlights not only the potential benefits, but also the potential risks and trade-offs of NBS. The purpose is not to downplay the importance of NBS for biodiversity, ecosystems, and coastal mitigation and adaptation, but to ensure that we establish a dialogue about ways to overcome these challenges while leaving no one behind.

Resumo:
The Browns Hole quadrangle is in Weber and Cache Counties of northern Utah and covers the eastern part of Ogden Valley, a rapidly developing area of the Wasatch Range. The Middle and South Forks of the Ogden River bisect the quadrangle and are important watersheds and recreational areas to the communities of Ogden Valley and the Wasatch Front. The towns of Huntsville and Eden are just west of the quadrangle, unincorporated communities with year-round residents are present throughout the quadrangle, and numerous summer-cabin communities are present in the eastern part of the quadrangle. A portion of Powder Mountain ski resort, which draws year-round visitation and recreation, is present in the northwest corner of the quadrangle. The quadrangle contains the Willard thrust, a major thrust fault with approximately 30 mi (50 km) of eastward displacement that was active during the Cretaceous-Eocene Sevier orogeny (Yonkee and others, 2019). In the quadrangle, the Willard thrust places Neoproterozoic through Ordovician strata in the hanging wall over a fault-bounded lozenge of Cambrian strata and footwall Jurassic and Triassic strata (see cross section on Plate 2). Neoproterozoic strata comprise a succession of mostly clastic rocks deposited during rifting of western North America and breakup of the supercontinent Rodinia (Yonkee and others, 2014). These rocks include the Cryogenian-age Perry Canyon and Maple Canyon Formations, and the Ediacaran-age Kelley Canyon Formation, Papoose Creek Formation, Caddy Canyon Quartzite, Inkom Formation, Mutual Formation, and Browns Hole Formation. The Browns Hole Formation is a sequence of interbedded volcaniclastic rock and basalt lava flows that provides the only radiometric age control in the quadrangle. Provow and others (2021) reported a ~610 Ma detrital apatite U-Pb age from volcaniclastic sandstone at the base of the formation, Crittenden and Wallace (1973) reported a 580 ± 14 Ma K-Ar hornblende age for a volcanic clast, and Verdel (2009) reported a 609 ± 25 Ma U-Pb apatite age for a basalt flow near the top of the formation. Cambrian strata in the hanging wall include a thick basal clastic sequence (Geertsen Canyon Quartzite) overlain by a thick sequence of interbedded limestone, shale, and dolomite (Langston, Ute, and Blacksmith Formations). Hanging wall rocks are deformed by Willard thrust-related structures, including the Browns Hole anticline, Maple Canyon thrust, and numerous smaller folds and minor faults. Footwall rocks of the Willard thrust include highly deformed Cambrian strata within a fault-bounded lozenge exposed in the southern part of the quadrangle, and Jurassic and Triassic rocks exposed just south of the quadrangle. The Paleocene-Eocene Wasatch Formation unconformably overlies older rocks and was deposited over considerable paleotopography developed during late stages of the Sevier orogeny. The southwest part of the quadrangle is cut by a southwest-dipping normal fault system that bounds the east side of Ogden Valley. This fault is interpreted to have experienced an early phase of slip during local late Eocene to Oligocene collapse of the Sevier belt and deposition of volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks (Norwood Tuff) exposed west of the quadrangle (Sorensen and Crittenden, 1979), and a younger phase of slip during Neogene Basin and Range extension (Zoback, 1983). Lacustrine deposits and shorelines of Pleistocene-age Lake Bonneville are present in the southwest corner of the quadrangle near the mouth of the South Fork of the Ogden River and record the highstand of Lake Bonneville (Oviatt, 2015). Pleistocene glacial deposits, present in the northwest corner of the map, are likely related to the Pinedale glaciation, commonly expressed by two moraine building episodes in the Wasatch Range (Quirk and others, 2020). Numerous incised alluvial deposits and geomorphic surfaces are present along major drainages and record pre- and post-Lake Bonneville aggradational and degradational alluvial and colluvial sequences. Mass-movement deposits, including historically active landslides, are present throughout the quadrangle. Crittenden (1972) mapped the Browns Hole quadrangle at 1:24,000 scale, which provided an excellent foundation for the general stratigraphy and structure, but the 1972 map lacked important details of unconsolidated surficial units. As part of 1:62,500 scale mapping of the Ogden 30'x60' quadrangle, Coogan and King (2016) updated stratigraphic nomenclature, revised some contacts, and added more details for surficial units. For this map, we utilized new techniques for data acquisition and analysis to delineate surficial deposits, bedrock contacts, and faults more accurately and precisely. Mapping and field data collection were largely done in 2021–2022 using a combination of GPS-enabled tablets equipped with georectified aerial imagery (U.S. Department of Agriculture [USDA] National Agriculture Imagery Program [NAIP], 2009), orthoimagery (Utah Geospatial Resource Center [UGRC] State Geographic Information Database, 2018b, 2018c; 2021a, 2021b), and lidar data (UGRC State Geographic Information Database, 2006; 2011; 2013–2014; 2018a), previously published geologic maps, topographic maps, and applications for digital attitude collection. We also used hand-held GPS units, Brunton compasses, and field notebooks to collect geologic data. Field data were transferred to a Geographic Information System (GIS), where the map was compiled and completed.

Allegheny woodrat and eastern small-footed bat inventory: White Rocks ? Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. National Park Service, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.36967/2302513.

Texto completo da fonte
Resumo:
Surveys were conducted for the presence of Allegheny woodrats, eastern small-footed bats, and their habitat within Sample Units surrounding potential climbing routes on the White Rocks cliff of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. White Rocks is a 200-300ft south facing cliff along the Virginia- Kentucky border that contains the typical habitat requirements of both species: rock ledges, outcrops, or a network of fissures and crevices surrounded by forested habitat. The eastern small-footed bat uses this type of habitat primarily during the summer months for roosting while the Allegheny woodrat is present year-round building nests within deep crevices. The eastern small-footed bat is listed as threatened in Kentucky and both are considered Species of Greatest Conservation Need in Virginia. The rock-climbing community has approached the National Park Service with interest in opening the cliff to recreational climbing. The results of this survey will be used to assess impacts to the species and aid in the studies required for the potential development of a formal climbing management plan. Surveys were conducted from August 24 to September 3, 2021, and included searches of the cliff face via rappelling, ground searches of suitable habitat surrounding the rim and base of the climbing routes, and noninvasive woodrat camera trap and bat acoustic surveys. Suitable eastern small-footed bat and Allegheny woodrat habitat was documented along all eleven potential climbing routes, and results of the acoustic and camera trap surveys confirmed the presence of both species. Surveyors did not observe roosting bats during visual encounter surveys, so we cannot confirm they are roosting along the specific climbing routes. It is likely they are using or could use the habitat at some point given their presence at the site. Surveyors did not observe obvious sign of woodrat presence, perhaps due to the complexity of the cliff habitat, but woodrats were captured at 32 of 37 (86%) camera sites. Video of woodrat activity at sites F3-C3, MF-C3, and CC-C1 confirm that these cameras were placed at crevices actively used by woodrats for caching food. Woodrat activity was captured on the first night at nearly half of the camera sites (40%) and within all Sample Units except SU-4. This suggests that the rim and/or base of most climbing routes are at or near core activity centers. Detection data was fitted to occupancy models to estimate probabilities of site occupancy and detection. Consistent with observations of woodrat activity detection probabilities and na?ve estimates of occupancy indicate woodrats are active at both the rim and base throughout the white rocks area. Design constraints, however, make it difficult to make strong inferences about factors affecting occupancy at the site or to predict occupancy at unsampled areas of the White Rocks cliff. Detection probabilities were high in all Sample Units especially after the first night of detection and were positively associated with habitat. However, these variables had little to do with site occupancy rates and are not very informative for predicting the influence of climbing activities on Allegheny woodrats. Research on the effects of rock climbing to roosting bats and Allegheny woodrats is lacking, but it has the potential to negatively impact these species both directly and indirectly. Directly through disturbance or harm to roosting bats or woodrats during climbing activities and indirectly through degradation of the cliff face and loss of suitable habitat. Whether climbing activities negatively affect the population of either species may depend on the amount of suitable habitat in areas where climbing does not occur and the extent of climbing activities. Suitable habitat does not appear to be a limiting factor at the site and the White Rocks cliff area extends beyond the potential climbing areas. These and other factors such as the presence of other species of concern should be considered when evaluating alternatives to continue climbing closures or consider opening the cliff to recreational climbing with protection measures. Measures that may reduce the impact of climbing activities on these species include additional surveys to determine exact roosting or nesting areas, restrictions on the amount and timing of climbing activities, restrictions on actions that degrade or remove vegetation from the rock surface, and education about the presence of these species at the site.
