Dupré, La Tour Monique. "Les fonctions psychiques du couple : le travail psychique du lien dans le couple". Lyon 2, 2002. http://theses.univ-lyon2.fr/documents/lyon2/2002/feuga_m.
Texto completo da fonteFor love as a feeling to become a form of commitment, for passion to turn into a psychic couple, members will byuild a specific link, the conjugal bond. This link creates a gap between the partners, such a gap being necessary for each of them to be connected, and to live as an individual. The greater the desire for fusion, the more concrete the gapbecomes, leading to no sexual intercourse, somatizations, violent behaviour, appearence of an outsider. The couple symptom, created by the couple, itself, replaces the internalisation of the third agency. The link puts into place defensive collusions, wich are signs of fixation echoing the partners' pregenital histories. The return of the repressed leads real symptoms to appear and to a crisis. The psychical work supplied to overcome crises works out of collusion. With each other and through each other, the partners gradually untangle what had beeen previously condensed in thise collusions. The working over then leads onto the link either becoming stronger or disappearing totally, allowing each one to progressively integrate elements awaiting symbolisation that were until then collusive. Under such circumstances, the psychical work provided by the couple may be seen as organising or reorganising its psyche, and enabling the partners to work over again the original mourning and that of the oedipien parents. In order to achieve this work, the setting and the couple as supporting group agencies must be reliable and the link must be objectal and libidinal enough. Dual therapy offers consulting ailing partners to form such a supporting group agency. It enables the link to be created afresh, the workin out of the differentiation inside the dyad and the projections of the internal object upon the real objects

Texto completo da fonteThis PhD in social psychology was mainly focused on the study of mixed Moroccan and Moroccan couples living in Morocco (Moroccan women and French men), a relatively new theme in Morocco, with the aim of analyzing the representations that women had of "Themselves and their partner in this situation of conjugal cultural diversity. The research focused on manifest levels (through interviews preceded by observations ...) and latent (six-projective storybooks - four from the Apperception Test Theme and two from the Family Apperception Test). It was conducted with 20 women from mixed couples and 20 women from Moroccan - Moroccan couples. The analysis of the results (based on the work of Barbara, Hammouche, Streiff-Fenart, Tribalat, Varro, Lemaire and de Klein) shows the presence of statistical differences attributable to the cultural composition of couples. These include : interest in the partner's culture ; the place of the project of religion and the child via transmission ; the presence of different relationships at the time that constitute generators of distance between the spouses or even conflicts. At the level of the imaginary, women of mixed couples are strongly marked by a "persecution" experience of which they are both authors and recipients, men being experienced as "dependent" and "absent", also responding less than the men of the indigenous couples to the desires of the women. In conclusion, these results lead us to question the place of the project and time and incite to deepen and the psychic mechanisms involved in its relations due to results with sometimes paradoxical hue

Texto completo da fonteOur work consists in studying the function of love passion in the everyday life and reality of individual. . . We would like to show the positive aspect of it, as it can be stimulating, motivating for all of us. So, it is necessary to wander passion from its pathological context, and to elaborate everyone's search of passion. To do so, we had to express theoretical assumptions concerning its etiology, through clinical analysis of characters in mythical work as : Tristan et Iseult, Roméo et Juliette, Les Liaisons dangereuses. Passion condenses these topics : possivity, destruction, transgression, lack, guiltiness, death. . . Passion reactivate primary processes in archaïc relation concerning feelings of potency and impotence. The passionate subject lives for a while in a narcissism by procuration, a fusional search, an omnipotence. From that, we showed, by means of interviews and personality tests on seven individuals, passion stake in reality, phantasm, human thoughts. Some subjects accept it, some do not for different reasons like fear of dependance, loss of self-control. Nevertheless, even if some subjects do not dose to involve themselves in passion, they need it as mobilization of pulsional energy and stand out that need on literary or cinematographic characters. Fascination for works relating strong passions can be explained by search of absolute perfection, limits, impossible desire, emergence of unconscious phenomenons

Texto completo da fonteThis research is part of a reflection on the relatives of patients with cancer, with the now accepted idea that breast cancer affects not only the person who is but also with members of his entourage and the marital relationship itself. The evaluation of the adjustment to the disease in an individual and marital perspective, could understand the experiences of each partner. From within a psychometric battery evaluating psychopathological characteristics and resources for individuals, as well as the quality of the marital relationship, our first study (37 patients; 37 spouses) helped to highlight the fact of using a limited number of coping strategies was related to a better individual adjustment. Furthermore, we noted the adaptive modalities for each member of the couple depended on coping efforts and level of their partner adjustment. Finally, the couple reflects best marital adjustment when each partner uses the same patterns of coping strategies. From within individual interviews (10 patients; 10 spouses), the second study has identified the emergence in the new psychopathological difficulties in breast cancer patients at the end of the treatment. Furthermore, the fact of considering the disease as a couple experience turns out to be helping for both partners. Our research findings underline the interest of taking into account the distress of the spouses in the experience of disease, and of treating disease in an individual but also relational perspective

Texto completo da fonteThis research hypothesizes that non-exclusivity in the context of a couple arises from a paradoxical dynamic in the link between a subject and their partners. This paradox stems from issues that are highly identity-related and narcissistic. To support its development, the author employed a hypothetico-inductive research approach, relying on three methods: participant observation (within polyamorous discussion groups), non-directive research interviews, and their professional experiences as a clinical psychologist and couple therapist. Based on clinical cases and vignettes, four key areas will be explored. The first will aim to propose a contemporary definition of the couple, followed by a typology of the couple in relation to the externalization of their relationship. The second area will detail the influence of the transformations affecting our "hypermodern" sociocultural framework on the rise of (non-)exclusive relationships. The third area will argue, on one hand, that "transgressive non-exclusivity" (such as adultery) is primarily driven by the need to gratify a particular feeling. On the other hand, "ethical non-exclusivity" (such as polyamory) is less a choice to engage in a non-exclusive relationship than a consequence of identity-narcissistic suffering. A fourth area will propose a phasing of the key periods through which a contemporary (non-)exclusive couple passes, or not. Epistemologically, this research will advocate for a complementary approach (Devereux, 1967) and a transdisciplinary perspective (Ciccone, 2018), although it is primarily situated within the field of an extended psychoanalysis (Kaës, 2015)

Texto completo da fonteRecent research consistently indicates that age is a major risk factor for cancer (Tubiana, 2002). Such is the case of prostate cancer, which is typically detected between the ages of 60 and 90 (average age of detection: 73 years). Coping with the physical effects of cancer is not the only challenge for elderly patients; cancer may also affect patient’s emotional and social lives as well. The current study presents results of an experience sampling study on the psychological impact of prostate cancer on the daily lives of elderly patients and their wives. We present data on 96 patients with prostate cancer and their spouse who were recruited from two Regional Center for the Fight Against Cancer in Bordeaux, France. Participants completed 3 daily assessments for 4 days (at the beginning of treatment, in the middle of treatment and at the end of treatment). The methodology has a number of advantages, including that it allows us to establish the relationship between variables (coping, quality of life, anxiety and depression), between subjects, and within the couple. The methodology also allows us to observe and compare the adjustment of patients and their partner following different ages (Swendsen, 1997, Czikszentmihalyi, 1984). Our results schowing three key points: First, we distinguiging the differences of feeling and coping strategies by spouses’age. The second point concern the concept of interindividual. This study discriminate behavior and emotions in everyday life of couples. The third important point concerns time management. There is an increased in feeling and psychosocial adjustement on the treatment. This study will help us to refine our knowledge and understanding of emotional adjustment and quality of life of patients with prostate cancer and their spouses. We will thus be able to realize the importance of taking into account the couple and not just patients in psychological interventions. Sifaki, Argyrô. "La crise du couple dans l'oeuvre théâtrale de Jean Giraudoux". Dijon, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015DIJOL031.
Texto completo da fonteThe present study aims to explore the dynamics of the amorous relationship between men and women as presented by Giraudoux in his theatrical work. It is posited that Giraudoux cannot perceive the individual outside the context of the couple. The coupe becomes a major reference for the author, where the individual defines and discovers him or herself relative to their partner. Crisis, which is at the heart of every relationship is defined by a series of continuous confrontations between the partners and is also the pint at which the individual wavers between finding refuge in indecision and happiness in the anticipation of their loved one. In Giraudoux’s plays love constantly changes and transforms the individuals, achieving perfection and completion within the lover’s discourse. In light of Nietzsche’s philosophy, Giraudoux creates in his plays a life where lovers, defying time and death, celebrate their humanness

Texto completo da fonteTransition to parenthood is an important period for personal and familial development. To become a parent is a long term project that implies the reconstruction of psychological and social roles by both parents.Different elements may influence the way parents assimilate this reality and adjust to the psychosocial context of parenthood. Hence, it is important to understand the process by which individual and dyadic factors contribute to the couples’ psychological adjustment to transition to parenthood and to evaluate the conditions that may be risk factors altering this developmental transition. The antenatal diagnosis of a fetal anomaly is a very specific situation in the context of parenthood that received little attention. The stress associated to this demanding, even traumatic, situation increases the risk of emotional and relational problems and may jeopardise the development and functioning of the family system. In order to study the process of psychological adaptation of couples to parenthood, specifically after the antenatal diagnosis of a fetal anomaly, we first evaluated the “normal” psychological evolution during pregnancy and postnatal period. Afterwards, using the same research protocol, we studied the process of psychological adaptation of couples who received the diagnosis of a fetal anomaly from pregnancy to one year after childbirth. This work may allow better understanding of the risk and protection factors for the psychological adjustment of parents during the transition to parenthood and after the antenatal diagnosis of a fetal anomaly. From a clinical and preventive perspective, this study may allow to increase knowledge on the elements perinatal healthcare professionals must take into account during the transition to parenthood and after the antenatal diagnosis of a fetal anomaly in order to promote psychological adjustment of the couple system

Texto completo da fonteNeurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) raise numerous implications for the health, well-being, and quality of life of both the partner with the disease and their caregiving spouses. In the face of these challenges, numerous studies have sought to understand the experiences of these individuals and evaluate the effectiveness of well-being-centered interventions. While individual approaches are important, the literature has underscored the significance of considering the dyad and the relational processes at play, particularly to optimize such interventions. However, while numerous models detail how couples adjust to chronic illness, NDDs are not integrated into these models, except for a few exceptions, indicating the need for further investigation of couple functioning in the context of NDDs. Therefore, the objectives of this thesis were to better understand the experiences of couples and the dyadic processes underlying their functioning, through a meta-synthesis centered on various NDDs (study 1) and two studies and functioning of couples facing Parkinson's disease (PD) (studies 2 and 3). Capturing changes in couple functioning across different stages of the disease was another objective. A thematic synthesis (study 1) and two qualitative empirical studies using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (study 2) were conducted. Study 2 explored the experiences of 15 couples at the specific stage known as the honeymoon period of PD. Study 3 involved a comparison of processes identified in three distinct samples of 15 couples, at three stages of PD, to identify prevalent functioning patterns and transitions in couple dynamics throughout the disease progression. Studies 2 and 3 identified five patterns of dyadic functioning, as well as transitions in dyadic dynamics, often linked to symptom progression. Some partners demonstrate mutual support and positive reinterpretation of their experience, evolving towards a dynamic where the caregiver provides subtle assistance to preserve this balance. For others, this discreet help, a subject of negotiation within the couple from the onset of the disease, abruptly transforms into control. While some spouses struggle against the disease from the early stages by exerting a form of control, their partner disengages. With symptom progression, it becomes impossible to avoid this control, which turns into intrusion. Additionally, some couples adopt a rigid hyperprotection against the distress induced by PD, with this avoidance strengthening over time. Finally, another pattern, characterized by difficulty in understanding the other's perspective and by a mutual disengagement shown by partners, also becomes more rigid over time, potentially leading to questioning the couple's relationship. These studies have highlighted different dyadic dynamics and their associated processes within the context of NDDs, specifically PD. The transitions identified in couple functioning throughout the disease progression indicate the importance of considering the couple's experience from the onset of the disease and throughout its evolution. These findings are significant, as they suggest several specificities of dyadic functioning in the face of NDDs. Furthermore, they reveal similarities in processes observed in the context of PD, Alzheimer's disease, or other chronic illnesses. These various aspects are thus important for the development of transdiagnostic interventions and future research aimed at exploring dyadic processes associated with couples' experience of other less studied diseases

Texto completo da fonteThis doctoral thesis focuses on the study of "attachment and its relationship to the profile of the couple," an approach that attributed to interactions experienced in childhood and adolescence an important role on the process of personal and emotional development. We analyze the features and how to interpret interactions experienced in the emotional, familiar and group of pairs context, during childhood and adolescence. We identify the influence of these characteristics in the way of being and living the current emotional relationships. In this research we used a mixed methodology which consists of a cognitive analysis (from the realization of a "pre-study" and a "Questionnaire") and a clinical analysis (by the studies of case) face to face with the Portuguese population is the basis of this analysis. Thus, this thesis focuses, in particular, the influence of attachment in the experience of romantic relationships in couples

Texto completo da fonteSleep is a natural, biological and individual phenomenon but also socioculturally organized. Understanding the lived experience of sleep difficulties (SD) in Canadian and Brazilian couples’ everyday life was the purpose of this thesis. The study, within in the comparative cross-cultural paradigm, is based on the critical phenomenological method (Moreira, 2009). This approach seeks to understand the lived world of couples with SD from the description of multiple contours (socio-economic and cultural) in which each partner, and the couple, are deeply intertwined day by day. Eleven heterosexual couples without children, aged between 24 and 47 years-old, with one or both partners self-reporting SD were recruited in Quebec (N = 6) and Fortaleza (N = 5). A couple’s phenomenological interview and “free reports” on sleep during seven consecutive days were used, as well as two questionnaires (PSQI/DAS-16). Regardless of the city, the lived experiences of SD were mostly associated with professional and adult lives’ stress that reflect symptoms of insomnia, and were closely linked to socio-cultural, economic, environmental and family contexts. The interviewed couples reported being used to their SD; they generally adopted personal and “healthy” strategies to cope with them and preferred the social convention of bed sharing. The majority of respondents were generally satisfied with their couple relationship at the time of their participation in this study. The experience of healthy relationships seems thus to promote appropriate behaviors related to sleep, but do not necessarily assure a lack of SD within the couple. Considering sleep in context and acknowledging its social (and dyadic) aspects could contribute to the identification of sleep difficulties, as well as their meaning and assessment.

Texto completo da fonteThe figure of the Machiavellian couple, which appears in Shakespeare, Laclos, Barbey d’Aurevilly, Henry James, James M. Cain, among others, is studied through a three-fold approach. The first one is a structural one and aims at identifying the basic elements of the figure and its scenario. This approach confirms the existence of two matrix, one based on the couple of Macbeth and the other on the pair of libertines of Laclos’ novel Les Liaisons dangereuses. The second approach is interpretative and underlines the biblical basis of the figure of the Machiavellian couple in its Shakespearean version, which is a rewriting of the Fall of Adam and Eve while the couple of Laclos signals the deterioration of romantic relationships in a courtly meaning. The third approach deals with aesthetics and aims at studying the forms and poetics of the figure and its effect on the reader as well as its added value in relation to the “Canon figure” of the Villain. This third approach deals also with the aesthetics of Evil linked to the figure of the Machiavellian couple

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis focuses on « the life of couples: comparative study between Syrian couples, French and Franco-Syrian ». This study highlights relationship of the family which is considered as a crucial cell that builds society. This study is the first of its kind that attempts to explore this issue thoroughly. This thesis is interested in analyzing the structure of couples in two diffrent societies and two cultures in both Syria and France. This study focuses on the importance of the role of the family and social environment in either stability or instability cases and in the difficulties that couples are passing through sometimes. The research sample consists of 55 couples (110 sujets), which was divided into four groups as the following : 30 Syrian couples living in Syria, and 13 Syrian couples living in France, 7 Franco-Syrian couples living in France, and 5 French couples living in France. The reserch is based mainly on undirected interviews containing questions about couples life, marital understanding, and projective test TAT. Search results : The studied variables shows a quiet signifiant difference between the four groups in the sample, while there are two variables which are the marital understand and the joint activities between the couple that did not show any differences. In conclusion, this study helps in defining the marriage success factors in terms of matching and agreement between the couple and disagreement between them. Also defining the causes of tension and conflit and provides bases to develop a consultation program to improve the relationship between the couple

Texto completo da fontePatients and their close ones have to face many cancer-related stressors. One of these close ones frequently becomes a caregiver and gives specific support to the patient. The dyadic adaptation to cancer is associated with many factors and is the result of a complex process. Communication appears to be one of the main factors of this dyadic adaptation. The literature reports number of dyadic interventions, but there is currently no consensus on their optimal content. In this context, this thesis work focused on optimizing communication and dyadic coping through the development of a dyadic psycho-oncological intervention. The first part of this work establishes, on the one hand, an inventory of the literature on the adaptation of the family and close ones and, on the other hand, an inventory of the interventions intended for close ones, patient-caregiver dyad and patient’s family. The second part of this work focuses on the development of a brief dyadic intervention designed to improve supportive dyadic communication. This intervention was tested through a randomized controlled trial. The intervention was effective on patients and their caregivers, especially on their perceived dyadic communication self-efficacy and dyadic coping. These intervention effects were larger for patients than caregivers.

Texto completo da fonteThis research focuses on the field of the clinical psychology of everyday life and is related to the psychology of health and well-being as well as social psychology. For some years, issues linked to homosexuality have been exacerbated by the "change in moral attitudes". However, a subject develops within the context of the social environment which has a direct impact on him or her. The subject's identity, through various parameters such as self-estemm, feeling of integration, coping strategies and subjective well-being, is structured by the social and cultural influence of middle-age. As a consequence, depending on the personal experiences of each individual, an internal dimension is woven around an external one in a way which remains unique to the person. In the present social context, visibility through the couple, through militant action and through the coming out process can be considered as event which creates a break between ordinary social life and gay socialization. When faced with a series of implmicit or outward rejections which can go as far as persecutions, what is visible may conceal the consequences of invisible stigma. One may therefore think that this choice generates some self-questioning and may have a great influence on the building of personal identity. A survey carried out on a group of 755 persons, taking into account some degree of visible interaction between self-esteem, integration process, well-being and coping - otherwise called feeling of self-worth - underlines the existing influence of this visible characteristic and these psychological dimensions

Texto completo da fonteIs psychoanalysis epistemologically deadlocked? Aren’t the "Japanese" (Lacan) or the Arabs "psychoanalysable"? These are two discomforts that simultaneously motivated this research. It found out the "link psychoanalysis" in which it supposes a potential to resolve the double crisis of psychoanalysis: the intrinsic one related to its longevity and that of the encounter between the latter and the operational hosting fields. Analysing the link rather than subjects in link revolutionized classical metapsychology by offsetting the pure intrapsychic thus soothing its panindividualism and promising an « equitable encounter » between psychoanalysis and its host ground, the Tunisian one in this case. The practice of this « paradigm » with tunisian couples and families in contexts of research and consultation, alternating, on need, individual, couple and family interviews, commented genosociograms, FAT or TAT allowed to detect recurrent and characteristic link configurations, in which Cultural Instance (Kaës, 1998) colours neatly the link space. Thus, could be identified and defined the Relic objects, Co-motherhood and Oedipus-in-law as context emergents informing respectively about genealogical, parental-filial and couple links. That is how a couple and family link psychoanalysis paves the way to a joint reading of three spaces: intra, inter and transsubjective where the subjectivation work occurs. At the same time, it raises questions about link-knitting and failures dealing with the cultural context

Besides, the way in which people shape their interpersonal relationships and their own emotions and that of others, might influence the construction of this intimacy. The quality of romantic intimacy would be characterized by three dimensions: (1) a feeling of connection, (2) good communication and (3) sharing of leisure time with mutual friends (Article 1). Furthermore, the construction of a feeling of intimacy in couple relationship would depend on the people’s profile of attachment and their emotional competences to deal with their own emotions. However, have high competences to deal with the emotions of others would be harmful for the quality of intimacy perceived (Article 2). In conflictive interaction of couple, there is a relation between the responsiveness perceived toward oneself and one’s partner. In particular, the husbands’ responsiveness perceived by the two partners would be associated with different patterns of physiological emotional arousal, according to their gender (Article 3). Verbal and nonverbal behaviors expressed by the partners would be also associated with a different level of intimacy according to the gender (Article 4). In a context of disease, these intimate behaviors expressed between the partners during an interaction about their life experience of the digestive cancer would reflect a specific emotional adjustment according to their social role of patient and caregiver (Article 5). An integrative discussion of these empirical evidences leads us to propose future research and clinical interventions in the field of couple relationships

Texto completo da fonteIntimate partner violence is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon. It includes physical, psychological, sexual, economic and administrative violence, and is the most common form of violence against women worldwide. Intimate partner sexual violence includes any non-consensual sexual activity within a partnership that is obtained using force, threat or coercion. Despite its detrimental effects on mental health, intimate partner sexual violence remains under-researched, limiting our ability to understand and address the problem. The main objective of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of the sexual dimension of intimate partner violence. Three research questions are addressed: what situations of sexual victimization (types of acts, frequency) are intimate partner violence victims exposed to? What are the associated clinical characteristics among victims? And how is sexual violence experienced and interpreted when perpetrated by a partner? Methods. After performing a literature review, data from a first cross-sectional study of a sample of female victims of intimate partner violence (N=93), collected through self and third party administered questionnaires, were subjected to cluster and comparative statistical analyses. Data from a second study, collected through non-directive interviews with women who disclosed sexual violence by their partner (N=7), were the subject of an interpretative phenomenological analysis. The results of the quantitative study indicate that 65.6% of the women in the sample had experienced intimate partner sexual violence. Four clusters were identified, corresponding to different contexts: « highly frequent rapes » (5.4%), « predominant sexual coercion » (20.4%), « medium frequency of all forms » (20.4%), and « low frequency of all forms » (19.4%). This study highlights the significant heterogeneity of sexual violence situations within violent relationships, and the tendency of sexually victimized women to suffer from more pronounced symptoms of complex post-traumatic stress disorder. The qualitative study identified five key themes in the lived experience of victims: the impact of a pre-existing sexual dynamic on sexual violence, which helps to « set the stage »; an experience of dehumanization; the pain of an intense cognitive load, associated with trying to understand the aggressions; a process of retrospective reinterpretation of sexual violence, after separation; and the feeling of a psychological impact that is still present despite the separation. This study reveals how emotional distress and cognitive uncertainty are present prior to sexual violence, during sexual violence, and continue after separation. It also shows how victims interpret it in terms of their own vulnerability, at the intersection of traumatic childhood history and insecure attachment This work contributes to improving knowledge about a sensitive and poorly understood topic. The implications for prevention, training of professionals, detection and psychotherapy are discussed. More research is needed to move toward a comprehensive approach that integrates the multiple dimensions and complexities of intimate partner violence

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis aims to explore the psychological processes at work within the couple at the time of the transition to parenthood. For the couple, access to parenthood is a disruption of the relational dynamics and the partners have to develop new status as spouse, lover and parent. A reorganization of the conjugal link is necessary, involving on one hand, an intrapsychic crisis which comes along with the reactivation of the story and individual infantile sexuality of future parents, and, on the other hand, an intersubjective crisis which concerns family and conjugal links. This relational reorganization between the parents-to-be comes along with the recollection of archaic and oedipal movements but also with a generational conflict for each of the partners. Furthermore, the marital crisis for the perinatal period feeds on intimate conflicts replayed at the parental level and on the reactivation of conscious and unconscious elements shared at the time of the couples foundation. The marital crisis of future parents re-questions the origin of the couple, the reasons of the choice of the spouse and its defensive arrangements. In this context, we ask ourselves the following question: How do these psychic reorganizations of the conjugal bond contribute to parenthood construction and to the investment of the child? Our study concerns the nature of transformations of the conjugal bond during the period of the parenthood to each of the partners

Specifically, the qualitative experiences of therapists using IBCT in their work with intercultural couples are examined through each therapist’s typed responses to open-ended questions. Each participating therapist in this study contributes by describing one case in which IBCT was used to help the couple navigate cultural differences as part of treatment. This study describes the various stressors faced by intercultural couples, therapists’ formulations of cultural differences, change processes and change mechanisms during treatment, and similarities and differences across therapists’ reports. The study concludes with participating therapists’ recommendations for treatment of intercultural couples in general, and recommendations for utilizing IBCT with intercultural couples. Lastly, implications for future research are provided.

The viewpoint adopted here is inspired from fishbein and ajzen model ; he considers that child representations influence educative attitudes which themselves influence educative behaviors. Two investigations have then been conducted, the results being analysed according to the factorial analysis in main components. The aim of the first survey is to apprehend, on general basis, child representations and educative attitudes of a sample of 320 parents. The second concerns 90 married couples, mothers and fathers of 45 boys and 45 girls; it concentrates on the representations, educative attitudes and behaviors adopted by parents towards one child in particular. Using the notes of factor obtained by the subjects, the author analyses the existing correlations between the different levels of the research. Within the framework of the viewpoint adopted here, a dependency - analysis is then carried out, showing that child representations can influence educative behaviors, either directly, or through educative attitudes

Texto completo da fonteAlthough one-third of partners in couple therapy have experienced childhood abuse, our field has developed few specific interventions that address the lingering effects of child abuse on current couple dynamics. A common impact on adult survivors is the struggle to trust their intimate partner. Furthermore, asymmetrical gendered power processes often erode trust. Given the propensity for adult-survivor couples to experience a distrusting emotional culture, this dissertation studied the effect of gendered power dynamics on trust in partner interactions, as well as identified clinical processes of Socio-Emotional Relationship Therapy (SERT) that helped adult-survivor couples change power disparities to a mutually supportive and trusting emotional culture.
This dissertation includes two publishable papers. The first article articulates relational trust theory, which integrates feminist, social constructionist views with relational ethics. This theoretical conceptualization describes how the intermingling of gendered power interactions and adult-survivor power responses negatively impact emotional connection. The second article presents the results of a longitudinal grounded theory study of video and transcripts of 40 SERT sessions with four heterosexual adult-survivor couples. The findings from the research were applied to an additional four couples to refine the final grounded theory on how to work with the intersection of trust, gender, and power issues of adult-survivor couples. Three key themes on gendered power processes emerged: 1) gendered fear of being vulnerable, 2) unique gendered power approaches, and 3) distrustful reactions. The analysis identifies five key clinical processes to enhance trust: 1) recognize gendered power’s effects on relational safety, 2) comprehend the socio-emotional experience of partners, 3) accentuate relational needs, 4) initiate partners sharing power, and 5) identify trustworthiness of partners. The study also delineates components of relational vulnerability that augment trust.
The final dissertation chapter compares the findings from the grounded theory analysis to current CFT models with adult-survivor couples and discusses clinical implications for addressing the complex interplay of gender, power, and trust in partner interactions. A significant contribution of this dissertation is a better understanding of the link of trust with gender and power dynamics in adult-survivor intimate relationships and how to sensitively address relational processes interfering with trust.

Texto completo da fonteIntroduction: The first months following breast cancer diagnosis is a critical period for patients and their partners. The objectives of the study were to describe the course of psychosocial variables and to examine the individual and dyadic effects of these variables on the adjustment of couples.Method: 83 breast cancer patients and 76 couples dealing with breast cancer were interviewed at the biginning, half way through, at the end of the treatment, and 1, 3 and 6 months after treatment completion. They completed measures of emotional control, psychological distress, quality of life, dyadic adjustment, social support and coping. Results: Results showed that subjects endured high levels of anxiety, with a short decline for women during treatment. Social support, fighting spirit and anxious preoccupations decreased over time.Using the Actor and Partner Interdependence Model, results revealed that psychological distress, emotional control, negative social support and emotional coping strategies had similar negative actor and partner effects on respective adjustment, and that dyadic adjustment and social support had similar positive actor and partner effects on patients’ and partners’ adjustment. Patient’s psychological distress, negative social support and emotional coping strategies play significant and positive roles in partner’s adjustment. Social support had actor and partner effects on choices of coping strategies. Conclusion: These findings show the importance of combining individual transactional and systemic approaches. Results also suggest that couples may benefit from interventions that enhance social support and communications skills and manage psychological distress

Texto completo da fonteIn family relations, responsibility mechanism seems to apply themselves with much more difficulty then elsewhere. Whether it engages the responsibility of the married couple, or the one of a parent towards his child, or even to judge a crime of passion, it can be difficult to determine the responsibility or guilt of each party. The affectif element, that is usually not considered like a text of law, is likely to explain this difficulty. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to discover what can be this affect, and if it indeed intervenes in a significant way in family responsibilities. In the classical thought, the affect has no autonomy, in a way that it is always assimilated and reduced to other notions such as emotion or free will. Removing these simplifications, the affect can be an element which can be isolated and clearly identified in the conjugal link or in filiation. Consequently, the affect is a concret element, but also dynamic, in the way it is doted by a normative value. It is therefore able, not only to enlighten family situations for which, civil or penal responsibility must be applied, but must also carry a value, that law may discover and protect

These are themoments in which the patient brings within the analytic situation different forms of expression ofthe archaic experiences or of the traumatic potential, forms coming from a space-time nonintegrated,a time that keeps the actuality of his expressions due to an not-enough elaboration ofits contents.I started on the basis of the following hypothesis:The violent appearance of the archaic elements or of the traumatic potential within the analyticsituation is a form of manifestation of the actual, which has not been developed the form of ametaphor, nor the primary form of representation, but an archaic form, inaccessible to thesymbolization process, in a shape similar to the presentation, Darstellung, which aspires to representation, that is to say, to a transformation in a form accessible to the primary developmentalprocesses.. When the archaic experiences and traumatic potential violently penetrate the analytic situationwith archaic realities repeating an actual that is outside of the psychic time of the patients, thosethey want to live and be a Here and Now.6 Each of the cases presented in this thesis represents experiences that first started to explore thepotential of each clinical situation at hand. The psychoanalytic setting, the setting of the analysiswith institutionalized children or the setting of the psychoanalytic consultations with the motherchildcouples, offer a spatiotemporal potentiality in which the relational dynamics benefit from aspace and time in a floating and associative expression. This process of free dynamic contentbrought by patients together with the forms in which I have received and developed such contentopened the access to the experience of the here and now, bringing us to what eventuallyrepresented the solution exit from the impasse and that continue the developing andtransformation process

This paradox, which presides over the composition of the epic, is found in the component formed by the couples, who are generally united more for the worse than for the better.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a major public health problem impacting millions of people around the world. The physical and psychological consequences of this phenomenon on the victims are multiple, such as chronic pain, sleep difficulties, a decrease in the level of activation, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and low self-esteem (Black et al., 2011). The perpetration of IPV behaviors is associated, among other things, with adult attachment insecurity (Gou & Woodin, 2017, Sommer, Babcock, & Sharp, 2017). The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between the attachment dimensions of dating partners (i.e. abandonment anxiety and avoidance of intimacy) and their respective perpetrated levels of psychological IPV. A sample of 279 heterosexual couples was recruited from a couple counseling clientele at Laval University psychology clinic to answer questionnaires on attachment and frequency of perpetrated behaviors of psychological IPV. Contrary to expectations, there is no interaction relationship between partners attachment and psychological IPV behaviors reported within the couple in this sample. Pathway analyzes of the APIM model indicate that high rates of anxiety in an individual predicts an increase in one's own psychological IPV behaviors, while high rates of avoidance in an individual predicts in some measures a decrease in psychological IPV behaviors in his partner. These results support the influence that insecurity of attachment can have on marital dynamics in IPV context. They will contribute to the development of better practices in conjugal intervention where one or both partners use violence within their couple.

Texto completo da fonteThe romantic relationship is a social context that influences individual development and successful aging. Greater similarity between partners, e.g. in emotional well-being, has often been argued to be beneficial for the faring of individual and relationship; however, recent reviews suggest the need for more diverse designs, analyses and samples, which cover not only earlier but also later points in the lifespan. The aim of this dissertation is to make a solid contribution to our understanding of well-being similarity and dynamics between romantic partners across the lifespan and in old age. To do so, it draws on notions of socio-contextual theories of lifespan development and utilizes data from a macrolongitudinal study spanning more than 31 annual waves (SOEP) and an extensive experience sampling study on older couples’ everyday life. Specifically, this dissertation a) describes the nature and development of well-being similarity over time and its correlates b) investigates the adaptive potential of well-being similarity for relationship functioning, and c) explores how the individual’s well-being is influenced by the partner’s control perceptions. Multilevel growth models showed that partners did not grow more similar over time in their life satisfaction, and that greater, and increasing, similarity in life satisfaction similarity predicted greater satisfaction with family life. Actor–partner interdependence models revealed that average, and momentary, similarity in negative affect was positively related to everyday perceptions of dyadic mastery, and that the partner's higher momentary control beliefs were associated with lower negative affect in the individual.

Texto completo da fonteContext: cancer Plans 2 and 3 emphasize the importance of a shared decision-making. However, the literature on breast reconstruction (BR) following breast cancer shows the physician essential place in this decision-making. Close others are also little included by physicians in this treatment choice and more specifically intimate partners. The latter is usually the most present near the women. To date, no research has studied couple interactions in the decision-making process of a BR. Yet, several studies have pointed out the interdependence of both members of a couple to face a chronic illness and partners' key role in women's adjustment facing breast cancer. Objective: the main objective of this research is to study couple interactions in the decision-making process of a BR following breast cancer diagnosis. Method: two studies as well as a systematic literature review were realized to meet this objective. These two studies were mixed, including a quantitative part (self-reported questionnaires) and a qualitative part (interviews with women and their partners). The first study was retrospective, interviewing couples several years after breast cancer diagnosis. The second study was prospective, interviewing couples just after breast cancer diagnosis. Quantitative data were subjected to non-parametric analysis. Qualitative data were subjected to a thematic content analysis, a lexical analysis and an interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results: the results of the retrospective study show that women's emotional adjustment is the same regardless their decision (immediate BR, delayed BR or no BR). However, women without BR would less recommend their decision compared to women with BR. In addition, couples report that BR decision was lived and taken within the couple. Partners were described as supportive in the decision-making process. The question of temporality emerged differently in couple's discourse according to the decision. The results of the systematic literature review highlight the different roles family members can have in treatment decision-making of a chronic illness, including direct (e.g., the partner says his/her preferences to the patient) and indirect influence (e.g., patient's choice is guided by his/her perception of his/her family responsibilities). The results of the prospective study shows that before the mastectomy, partners of women not having an immediate BR express more negative emotions and a greater need for information compared to partners of women having an immediate BR. Furthermore, women and their partners think to the BR at the time of the mastectomy. These thoughts allow couples to project themselves in the future, where BR is associated to a good health. Thinking to BR could allow couples to cope with the mastectomy and breast cancer diagnosis. Conclusion: BR decision-making appears as experienced within the couple, with specificities considering the decision (immediate BR, delayed BR or no BR). At the clinical level, this work allows to identify couples needs and to propose interventions and tools to develop in order to accompany women and their partners. At the research level, it should be distinguished more broadly how BR decision is made between the women, her partner and the health professionals involved in the medical care
