The issue related to the study of anthroposcopic, anthropometric, dermatoglyphic parameters of the population of Ukraine to create regional gene pools remains relevant, because given the intensification of migration processes both within Ukraine and worldwide. The growing flow of global migration and assimilation creates all the conditions for the disappearance of pure ethnic groups and peoples. This work highlights the prospects for studying the ethnic and regional features of human anthroscopic parameters. The article presents the differential anthroscopic characteristics of Hutsul, Boyko, Lemko, Opollia, Pokuttia ethno-territorial groups. The goal of the work. To form anthroscopic portraits of Hutsul, Boyko, Lemko, Opollia, Pokuttia ethno-territorial groups in comparison with the control group of persons. Materials and methods. The material of the study was anthroscopic parameters of 480 males and females aged 18-59 years, belonging to the Hutsul, Boyko, Lemko, Opollia, Pokuttia and control groups, obtained by questionnaires using standardized methods proposed by Ginsburg BB (1963). The obtained data were subjected to statistical analysis. Results. Anthroposcopic portrait of the studied groups: Hutsul ethno-territorial group is characterized by dark skin tone, black straight hair, oval elongated straight face, dark brown or green-brown eyes, long narrow nose; Boyko ethno-territorial group is marked by white skin color, blond straight or wavy hair, round broad face, gray or dark brown eyes, wide straight nose; the Lemko ethno-territorial group is distinguished by white skin color, light straight or curly hair, oval elongated narrow long face, light brown and blue eyes, narrow straight nose; Opole ethno-territorial group is characterized by white skin color, light blond and dark blond wavy hair, round broad face, dark brown and light brown eyes, straight wide nose; The Pokut ethno-territorial group is distinguished by white skin, black and dark blond straight hair, an oval elongated narrow face, brown-green eyes, and a long narrow nose. Conclusion. We were able to apply the obtained results in practice, including in the set of identification features and developing an algorithm for rapid prediction of human outward signs.

The topicality of the research is determined by the detailed study of the peculiarities of the geological structure of Boryslav-Pokuttia zone of the Precarpathian deflection, in particular of local structural forms as probable traps for oil and gas, for reliable prediction of the oil and gas potential of the subsoil. Boryslav-Pokuttia zone of the Precarpathian deflection refers to one of the oldest oil and gas producing regions in Ukraine. Its hydrocarbon potential is far from being exhausted. The complex block structure of Boryslav-Pokuttia zone requires the development of specific methods for conducting oil and gas prospecting. In this regard, determining the distribution nature of the local structures and specifying the peculiarities of their morphological forms in the area under investigation are of great importance. The issue of tracing tectonic disturbances and determining their screening ability which determines the possible existence of hydrocarbon deposits remains to be an urgent matter. Solving these issues will significantly improve the geological efficiency of prospecting and exploration in the areas of Boryslav-Pokuttia zone. At the modern stage of the Earth sciences development computer processing of geological data is widely used. Therefore, along with the traditional approach to describing structures as potential traps for oil and gas, it isnecessary to analyze their quantitative (numerical) parameters. It gives a possibility to confirm the stablished regularities more reasonably. Handling large array of quantitative indicators of local structures and the dependencies established among them makes it possible to simulate the processes that formed them and to determine the regularities of their distribution. The most important scientific and practical results include: the quantitative indicators ranking of the local structures of Boryslav-Pokuttia zone (the ranking contains four groups of structures classified according to their morphological texture); the investigated conditions for the formation of morphological varieties of local structures and the character of the distribution of tectonic deformations in them. The results of geological and mathematical simulation according to a complex of quantitative indicators help to state that local structures with certain morphological features, which are revealed to various extent in their deformations, are formed by tectonic movements of different magnitude and direction and are described by the numerical parameters peculiar only to them. Investigating the distribution of tectonic stresses and deformations, which can be estimated in quantitative indicators, will contribute to a more reliable prediction of the oil and gas potential of the subsoil. In its turn, it will improve significantly the geological performance of oil and gas prospecting in the areas of BoryslavPokuttia zone of the Precarpathian deflection.

The current state of dark coniferous forests on Earth is a bio-indicator of global environmental change, in particular, the process of gradual degradation of tree species of the genera Pine, Spruce and Fir, due to the negative impact of anthropogenic activities, abiotic and biotic factors. The purpose of the study is to establish the symptoms, prevalence and harmfulness of the causative agent of ulcerative tumour-like disease on the shoots and trunks of white fir. The research was conducted on the territory of the forest fund of the Pokuttia Carpathians, in particular, within the branch Kutske forestry of the State Specialised Economic Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” in the Kosivske forest enterprise. The study uses classical phytopathological and mycological methods, which are used to investigate the aetiology of the disease, analyse typical symptoms (starting from the early stages), and perform microscopy of the affected parts of fir. The symptoms, aetiology, and pathogenesis of white fir ulcer-like disease, which tends to spread, were investigated. A new name for the disease is substantiated, in particular, it is proposed to use the name “ulcerative tumour-like disease” of fir instead of the current name “cancer”. It is shown that a typical sign of infection is the development of tumours, which eventually transform into ulcers. It was found that the tumour-like type of lesion prevails on the undergrowth of fir, and on plants of the upper tiers – ulcerative. It is noted that a typical sign of ulcerative tumour-like disease of white fir is also the presence of pathologies such as “witches’ broom”. It is proposed to remove affected trees with typical signs of infection with ulcerative tumour-like disease to reduce the infectious background, especially during lighting and cleaning, since affected trees are not released from infection. Therefore, assessing the risk of infection of white fir trees with ulcerative tumour-like disease at the level of specific stands and ensuring an appropriate response to potential infection risks is an important part of sustainable forest management

Ethno-national identity is a complex phenomenon, rich in both its structure and content. In this form of identity, both ethnic and national factors are deeply interlinked and influence each other. Vasyl Tkachuk (1916–1944) was a little-studied Ukrainian novelist, born and raised in Pokuttia and Hutsulshtchina in the first half of the 20th century. An unruly “Hutsulyk” who knew and loved his native land from an early age, made it famous in his works, and spontaneously resisted the sudden Sovietization of Western Ukraine, which cost him his life. It is therefore possible to ascertain that, based on his literary legacy, this talented novelist can be counted among the exponents of ethnonational identity. Writing as a Hutsul about the Hutsul people, their joys, sorrows, ethnic distinctiveness, and national unity, Tkachuk automatically defended both their and his own identities. This way, he confirmed his deeply rooted sense of the “little homeland” and the Ukrainian nation. To conduct the research, the hermeneutical and biographical methods were used.

The present article focuses on creative work of Wilhelm von Habsburg (Vasyl Vyshyvanyi), who perceived Ukraine and the Ukrainian and mentality so deepty that he became a patriot of the country. Vasyl Vyshyvanyi is the author of the poem collection «Mynayut Dni...» (1921) and miniature fragmentary prose published in the magazine «Volya» (1920). The relevance of his work is outlined, as in a difficult time for Ukraine, attention should be paid to little-known figures who shaped Ukrainian history day by day and remained faithful to their cause till the end. The goal of the present work lies in elucidating the genre-thematic markers of Vasyl Vyshyvany's creative work. The article clarifies leading motives of the collection of his poems: the heroic struggle accompanied by the hope for victory, the transience of life and mourning for fallen soldiers, existencialism and the search for homeland, the beauty of Ukrainian song and the nature of Ukraine. Considering Vasyl Vyshyvany's works as representative of the creative work of Sich Riflemen writers, it is suggested to view his poems as songwriting, highlighting some types of literary-origin songs: the call song, lyrical march, elegy song, humorous song, anthem march. The main marker of Vasyl Vyshyvanyi's work is emphasized as a “tragic optimist” (D. Dontsov). This is traced both in poetry and in prose poems. Ukrainian symbols (willow, rocks, mountain song, nightingale, charms of the night), as well as toponyms (Karpathians, Tscheremosch, Chervonohor, Hutsul Region, Pokuttia) abound on the pages of his sparse but so sincere creative heritage, the main marker of which is Ukrainianness.

The article highlights the specificity of the brick as one of major types of construction material in the ХІV–ХХ c. in Western Ukraine. On the territory of the region, namely in Lviv, the brick has been used in construction since the second half of the ХІV c. when city walls and three main cathedrals were built (in particular, we mean the Roman-Catholic, the Armenian and St. George’s Cathedrals). Among the rare findings, there is a brick with a scratched motif of a Greek-type cross that was excavated by archaeologists in the center of Lviv. In the XVI–XVIII c., constructors used a widespread type of brick called “paltsivka”, the name of which originates from the method of its production, i. e., on one of the wider sides of the brick craftsmen made “gutters” with their fingers (Lviv, Zhovkva). This type of bricks was used in building fortifications, monasteries and castles. There are rare samples of bricks with imprints of a child’s or an adult’s foot or a dog’s paw (Lviv, Kopychyntsi). Bricks of the 19th century, which were produced industrially, contained embossed and engraved Cyrillic or Latin initials, sometimes surnames of enterprise owners, the year and place of production. Bricks from Ivan Levynskyi’s factory were used to build Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater, the railway station and later other buildings in the city, namely in the district of Kastelivka. At that time, brickworks functioned in Boikivshchyna, Pokuttia, Western Podillia and Volyn. Using the example of items from museums and private collections, as well as the author’s own expedition notes, the article has traced the evolution of brick shapes and the inscriptions on them.

The territory of research on landscape-geographical zoning is confined to the Precarpathians - part of the Western Ukraine, within the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions (Kravchuk, 1999). It stretches a relatively narrow strip between the Dniester valley and the northeastern foothills of the Ukrainian Carpathians (Koinov, 2014). Coenopopulations of four species of the genus Polygonatum Mill (Polygonatum multiflorum (L.) All., Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce., Polygonatum verticillatum (L.) All., Polygonatum latifolium Desf.) were studied within the seven territorial divisions of the Precarpathian region. We studied these species at 59 research sites dedicated to 14 types of habitats (Didukh, 2011). The studied biotopes of the Precarpathian region are characterized by a number of edaphic and climatic indices. The humus content is 1.94–2.98 %, reaching the maximum values in the biotopes of the Pokutsk hills, and the minimum – in the Kalush (Limnitsko - Bolokhiv) basin. The average soil solution response rates are very acidic within the Storozhynets strand (pH (saline) – 4.33 units); strongly acidic level – within the Kalush and Stanislav basin and Pokuttia height (pH (salt) – 4.68; 4.82 and 4.76 units, respectively); slightly acidic level - within the Upper Dniester Basin and Voynylivskyi hills (pH (salt) – 5.34) and Chernivtsi hills (pH (salt) – 5.05). The moisture content, the amount of active temperatures and the level of illumination vary greatly depending on the type of biotope. The soils of wetland alder habitats are characterized by maximum moisture content (> 40%) and the minimum - the biotopes along the highways and abandoned pastures (<20 %). The sum of active temperatures at a depth of 20 cm is highest in non-forested areas with a low degree of loosening. The minimum level of illumination (in the range of 760 - 900 lux) was stated in forest biotopes, the maximum (> 2000 lux) was found in biotopes of abandoned pastures and hay meadows. Soils within the studied Precarpathian biotopes are characterized by low and medium supply of N, P and high content of K. The weighted average value of mobile phosphorus varies from 39.49 mg / kg in the biotopes of the Kalush Basin to 81.18 mg / kg in the biotopes of the Chernivtsi Upland; of hydrolyzed Nitrogen - from 68.07 in the biotopes of the Kalush Basin to 83.93 - Storozhynets Strand. The highest weighted average values of mobile potassium content were found within the Pokuttia Upland (150.70 mg/kg), the lowest – the Voynyliv Upland (84.1 mg/kg).

THE CHERNELYTSIA CASTLE IN PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE LATE 19TH–20TH CENTURYFor a long time, it was believed that the Chernelytsia Castle in Pokuttia did not attract much attention from artists due to its relatively small size and remoteness from the main roads. This should have resulted in a small amount of illustrative material, primarily photographs, depicting the castle. However, the actual situation is different. Over the last ten years, archival and library searches conducted by a team of Polish and Ukrainian researchers have made it possible to discover, identify, date, and publish numerous photographs of the Chernelytsia Castle. The discovered photographs are stored in the National Library in Warsaw, the Archive of the Department of Polish Architecture at Warsaw University of Technology, the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Karta Center in Warsaw, the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Lviv, the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv, the Scientific and Technical Archive of the Institute ‘Ukrzakhidproektrestavratsiya’ in Lviv, and the private collections of Oleksandr Kahlian, Levko Kvyatkovskyy, and Vitaliy Nagirnyy. All currently known photographs of the Chernelytsia Castle were taken between the 1880s to 1990s using the traditional method and classic photographic equipment. The earliest ones date back to the 1880s and were made by Kolomyian photographer Juliusz Dutkiewicz in 1880 for the Ethnographic Exhibition of Pokuttya in Kolomyia. Over the next few years, photographs of the castle by an unknown author (1884) and Albin Fridrich (between 1892 and 1904) appeared. A large number of photographs of the Chernelytsia Castle were taken in the interwar period. In 1921, 7 photographs of the castle were taken by an unknown photographer on the request of the Conservative Club in Lviv. Another 23 photographs of the fortress were taken in 1935 by Bogdan Guerquin. In addition, during this period, a number of other single photographs of the castle were taken by unidentified authors, which are currently preserved in private collections. The photographs of the Chernelytsia Castle from the second half of the 20th century by Ostap Kudybin (second half of the 1960s) and Ihor Starosolskyy (1969-1971) are of great importance. The significance of these photographs cannot be overestimated. They are a unique source that allows us not only to show the state of the castle in different periods, from the late 19th century to the late 20th century, but also to illustrate the dynamics of changes and losses of fortifications, and even to try to reconstruct the original appearance of the historical monument. Some of the photographs described in the article have been published before, while others are published for the first time.

In the paper we have analysed hydrocarbon deposits of the Western region according to their belonging to the tectonic zones, stratigraphic complexes, types and depths of occurrence. The law-governed nature of alteration in physical-chemical properties of oil and gas, hydrogeological and geochemical peculiarities of productive thickness were studied, haloes of the distribution of gas of hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon composition outcrops of fluids were mapped. Problems of the formation of hydrocarbon accumulations were considered. According to the results of integrated analysis of different geological factors, besides the main factors of oil and gas presence – structure, reservoir, cover – additional criteria were proposed. In the direction to the deposit, the nitric-methane gases are changed into sufficiently methane and hydrocarbon-methane ones, and values of saturation pressure are comparable to the formation pressure. Indication of oil-gas presence are water-soluble organic matters of oil origin: bitumen, phenols, hydrocarbons, naphthenic acids as well as the presence of condensation waters or their mixture with formational waters. Probable indicators of hydrocarbon accumulations are sulfides of zinc, lead, copper in rocks. For the existence of the deposits the hydrogeological closing of the bowels is necessary: small velocities of the formational waters, their high mineralization, metamorphism intensity, chlorine-calcium type of waters. Natural oil-gas showings as a reflection of deposits that occur at a depth serve as criterion for estimation of prospects of the oil-gas presence in the open territories. The example of substation of prospecting objects is given according to criteria of the oil-gas presence in the platform autochthone under the overthrust of Pokuttia-Bukovyna Carpathians.

The role of branding on the example of urban and regional public events of some cities of Eastern Galicia, as well as the involvement of these processes in the formation of the attractiveness of individual places in the field of tourism is considered. The content of the concept of "territory brand" for the specification of the selected phenomenon in further scientific research is substantiated. The works of famous sociologists, marketers and urbanists in the formation of the image of the territory due to the individual attributes are analyzed. The main attributes of cultural services in the material, spiritual and artistic aspects that are consumed by the target tourist audience have been identified. The importance of international sports forums, events and festivals for the overall presentation of a region or city and its further marketing status and attractiveness is highlighted. The subject, audience interest and the territorial brand itself are highlighted, which also depends on political and investment influences. The festival environment of music forums in Prykarpattia and Lviv region that create an attractive art style as well as gastronomic tours that are gaining popularity and in which cooking becomes an advertising brand and a symbol of recognition of particular regions are described. On the example of three museums of Kolomiya the importance of each of them in the context of event culture of the city and dissemination of material, intellectual and spiritual values with their involvement in the cultural and artistic life, which makes them represent the original identity of the Pokuttia region is clarified. The importance of balneological spas in Zakarpattia and Lviv region was highlighted as they create their own economic and tourist attractiveness thanks to the natural resource of mineral waters and the location of health resorts away from urbanized settlements. Logos and slogans of several Western Ukrainian cities have been analyzed, in which iconic architectural constructions, unique geographical locations, historical events and figures create symbolism that conveys the main idea of the city. The prospects for the development of this topic and the importance of regional branding research in the context of geo-branding, which provides an opportunity to improve the tourist attractiveness of individual territories and the country as a whole, are identified.

Th e purpose of the study: to analyze well-known and little-known works and mu- seum collections and explore the types of embroidered and printed jewellery as a common way of decorating Podolsk traditional clothing of the second half of the nineteenth – early twentieth century. Th e research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, comprehensiveness, systematicity and objectivity. Th e latter, in turn, are implemented through a combination of gene- ral scientifi c, historical and ethnological methods with other interdisciplinary methods, inclu ding statistical, descriptive, system-structural, as well as methods of museum source studies, visual an- thropology and technical research. Th e scientifi c novelty is that for the fi rst time an attempt is made to determine the regional and local features of sewn and printed ornaments in the form of applications or individual details for the decoration of folk clothing of Ukrainians in all subregions of Podillia. Conclusions. Th us, in order to decorate the components of the folk costume of Podolsk Ukrainians of the second half of the XIX – early XX centuries used such techniques and techniques of application and placement of decor as weaving, beating, embroidery, stripes and stuffi ng in the form of applications or individual parts. Stitched and printed ornaments as a way of decoration were widespread among underwear, waist, chest and outerwear, headdresses, belts, jewellery, shoes and clothin g accessories. Oft en sewn and printed ornaments played a central role in the overall composition, contributing to the balance and unifi cation clothing elements of the traditional com- plex of Podolian clothing. Moreover, the infl uences of neighbouring historical and ethnographic re- gions and districts, in particular, Bukovyna, Volyn, Opillia, Pokuttia, Naddniprianska and South- Steppe Ukraine, were seen in these types of methods of decorating the folk clothing of Ukrainians of Podillia. Th us, the varieties of Podolsk embroidered and printed ornaments can be considered as a valuable source of comparative information on the material and spiritual cultural heritage of Podillia in particular and Ukraine in general.

The article studies the original psychologism in the interpretation of the land image in Ukrainian folk dumas and short stories by Vasyl Stefanyk, who was a representatives of the “Pokutia triad” (Vasyl Stefanyk, Les Martovych, Marko Cheremshyna). Using the comparative method, the semantic-cognitive and the concept-analysis, the authors determine the national peculiarities of worldview of the heroes, the role of the author's principle, the transformation of linguistic signs of nationally marked lexes, expressing the worldview of ethnocultural groups of Galicia, Pokuttya and Steppe Ukraine in their dialectical unity. The article emphasizes that the symbolism of the land in Ukrainian folk dumas and short stories by Stefanyk is expressed in the paradigm of the concepts “land - breadwinner”, “land - family”, “land - will”, “land - glory”, “land - life”. It is noted that for the Galician peasants the land was of the greatest value and holiness, which is most often expressed in the image of “land - breadwinner”, while for the heroes of Ukrainian folk dumas, the land is a symbol of freedom. The focus on the originality of the poetic means, which reveal the national characteristics of the heroes. Such a comparative research has been conducted for the first time to be further expanded in future in the folklore and literary studies.

The article analyses the features of the formation of a cultural and educational centre. It is determined that in order to strengthen the economic potential of the city or town, it is necessary to establish and develop related components that will facilitate investments into the main economic function of the city or town and increase its attractiveness and efficiency. These are the related components that can be formed in a cultural and educational centre. The components, which are successfully established and developed in the cultural and educational centre, and related to the main town-forming function are able to significantly affect the further development of the said function, and, accordingly, the entire settlement. The use of land in settlements always involves a combination of land ownership interests, both private, municipal and state. In these conditions, land ownership is closely related to the need to locate a certain type of activity in a certain place for the most efficient use of the land plot. The article provides examples of cultural and educational centres in Ukraine, where the main town-forming function of a settlement is represented and developed. Such an example is the complex of cultural and educational centres in Opyshnia, a centre of pottery art. Today, the village has several exhibition areas united by a conditional tourist route: ceramics museums, a cultural and educational centre with exhibition, shopping, recreational areas and small-scale production, and museums-estates of famous potters. The existence of a cultural and educational complex in Opyshnia significantly increases the town’s tourist potential. A successful example of domestic experience is the Museum of Easter Egg Painting and the National Museum of Hutsulshchyna and Pokuttia Folk Art in the city of Kolomyia of Ivano-Frankivsk region. A similar approach to further development with the formation of cultural and educational complexes of public buildings with hotel, exhibition, trade, recreational, and educational zones is offered in the city of Kostopil, where the Ukrainian Sawmills Company operates its woodworking plant. The article determines that the problem of researching functional planning and architectural and compositional solutions for cultural and educational centres in small towns is relevant for the formation of an aesthetic environment, for the activation of cultural, spiritual, scientific and educational needs.

The Cenomanian hexactinellid assemblages are relatively rare and are known only from England and France. The phosphatized sponges from the Pokuttian Podillia in western Ukraine seem to be taxonomically the most diverse Cenomanian hexactinellid assemblage known from Europe and the world. Several new hexactinellid taxa (Class Hexactinellida) are described from the Cenomanian of Pokuttian Podillia: Myliusia rakovensis n. sp., Verrucocoelia regularis n. sp., Tretochone cretacea n. sp., Heterochone boguckii, Dunikowskiella nezvyskensis n. gen. n. sp., and Moretiella foliacea n. sp. A new lychniscosidan genus Dunikowskiella is established within the family Callodictyonidae. Until now, genus Moretiella was reported only from the Aptian of Spain and the Albian of France. The extant genera Heterochone and Myliusia are also rare as fossils. Heterochone was known from the Campanian of Germany. Myliusia, noted in the Miocene of Spain, is well documented in Late Cretaceous for the first time. Tretochone was known only from recent times. The sponges studied lived in the shelf sea, shallower than most recent hexactinellids occur.

The run of military operations on the one of the strips of the Eastern front – Pokuttya as a part of the Western Ukrainian land territory is studied in the article. The preconditions of the war are shown by the author; the characteristic features of the military mobilization of the Austrian and Hungarian army on the territory of Pokuttya on the eve and at the beginning of the war are defined; the peculiarities of the Russian regime formation on the land are revealed; not simple relations between the occupying authority and the local population are traced. The eve and beginning of the World War I showed the escalation of mass political hysteria on the part of the Austro-Hungarian authorities. The official authorities were prejudiced against the population of the region, accusing it of Russophilia. At the same time, local authorities tried to demonstrate their loyalty to the Austrian emperor by holding a series of «patriotic» events. The capture of Pokuttya by the Russians in the autumn of 1914 was accompanied by the requisition of inventory and property, the persecution of representatives of the Ukrainian national movement and residents of Jewish nationality, and the brutality of Russian Cossack units. The hostilities of 1915 showed the weakness of the positions of Russian troops in Pokuttya. In some parts of the front, the positions of the warring parties often changed, which, in turn, depleted the material resources of the inhabitants of the region. In the early summer of 1915, Austrian troops liberated Pokuttya for a time. However, the events of 1916 will show that the front in the territory of Eastern Galicia will «come to life» and this will lead to a brutal, but short-lived, occupation of Pokuttya by Russian troops. The problem of Russian occupation in the current foreign policy situation is more important for our country than ever, and the occupation practice used on the Crimean peninsula and in Eastern Ukraine has its historical analogies with the period 1914-1915. That is why from the standpoint of protection of state sovereignty, national security, the study of this problem becomes especially relevant.

If the context of the performance of ritual and dance music is described in detail in a number of monographs at the beginning and middle of the last century, then with descriptions of the existence of epic genres the situation is somewhat different. Most collections of epic songs contain verbal and musical texts, however, the context of the performance, the number of performers, and the instrumental component are not always described. The article is devoted to the epic genres of folklore of the Ukrainians of the Carpathians. The article examines the modern existence of such epic genres of Ukrainian Carpathian folklore as psalm, song-chronicle, ballad. The aim of the study is to show the epic genres of folklore of the Ukrainian Carpathians in the context of its modern existence in the Carpathian village and in connection with the instrumental tradition of the region. The study covers Eastern Galicia (Halychyna), in particular Galician Hutsulshchyna and Pokuttia (Pokucie), where the author's fieldwork took place. Modern field recordings of psalms, which were previously carried by itinerant lyre players, indicate that the works of this genre in some places have survived to this day due to their inclusion in the calendar tradition. Some of them are preserved as Christmas and Lenten songs. So, in the village Stary Lisets of the Tysmenytsa district of IvanoFrankivsk region, the psalm «About Stratenska Virgin Mary» about the siege of the monastery by the Tatars became a carol. In the Kosiv and Verkhovyna districts of Ivano-Frankivsk region (Galician Hutsulshchyna), songs-chronicles («novyny») continue to exist. This genre of Ukrainian folklore appeared in the 17th century. Songs-chronicles reflect historical events from the time of the opryshky movement to the present day and family and household dramas. In the village Khymchyn of the Kosiv region, the author of these lines was lucky to record two songs-chronicles – about Dovbush and about the First World War. The performer alternated singing with playing on a sopilka-dencivka. The author finds out ideas of the bearers of the tradition about the correct performance of songs-chronicles. The classical performance of chronicle songs is predominantly solo (one singer and one accompanist-instrumentalist). Folk ballads that exist in the modern Carpathian region can be divided into local and late ones, a significant part of which came from the Central regions of Ukraine in the 20th century. At the same time, part of the late ballads comes from the ancient ones that arose on the territory of the Ukrainian Carpathians in the 17th–18th centuries. Evidence of the 20th century and the records of modern collectors of Carpathian folklore show that the performance of ancient Carpathian ballads is close to the performance of songs-chronicles. Old Carpathian ballads are characterized by a declamatory manner of singing accompanied by a violin, hurdy-gurdy or sopilka-flute and a narrow ambitus. Old ballads are associated with individual performance and folk-professional instrumentalism. Nowadays they can be heard less often than late ballads associated with collective choral singing. To get a complete picture of the context of the existence of the ancient Carpathian ballads, it is necessary to interview the inhabitants of the villages where they were recorded in the XX – at the beginning of the XXI century – Kornych, Myshyn, Cherni Oslavy, Velykyi Klyuchiv and Kosmach.

Abstract In many papers different authors was described problem of systematic underestimation of TL ages for sediments older then 100 ka. We presented the results which probably are not significantly rejuvenated. This is another example of the TL dates made in Lublin laboratory which are likely in agreement with the stratigraphic interpretation. In 2002 Kusiak et al. published the TL ages ranging from 200 to 800 ka for the Zahvizdja loess profile in Ukraine. These first promising results of TL dating of so old deposits encouraged us to undertake further studies. In next years were discovered other Ukrainian loess profiles with the Middle and Lower Pleistocene deposits, among others in the Skala Podils’ka, Mamalyha and Vendychany sites. The thermoluminescence dating made for these profiles in the Lublin laboratory gave the next, after Zahvizdja, series of 15 TL ages ranging from 200 to 700 ka. This way we confirmed the possibility of TL dating of the deposits older than 400 ka BP.

In the article selected works of Aleksander Groza, a representative of “the Ukrainian school” of Polish romanticism, have been thoroughly investigated. The author used interpretive methods of postcolonialism, comparative studies and intertextuality, and sometimes also from the field of ethnography and ethnology. The article is an introduction to the monograph that the author is currently working on. As a result of the analysis of the works, it was possible to distinguish three main images of the Ukraine, which are stereotypical for the Polish literature in genere: Arcadian Ukraine, Cossack Ukraine and frenetic Ukraine. By using the fragments of Groza’s texts, as well as intertextual references, the author characterized each of these images. After outlining the poet’s profile through a simple biography, which will be developed in the future, the author of the article conducted an analysis and interpretation of the following works by Groza: the volume Poezje, Ukrainian elegies: Soroka and Pierwsza pokuta Żeleźniaka, poem Mogiły, dramas Śmieciński and Hryć. Such a versatile choice of texts allowed to draw some interesting conclusions concerning Aleksander Groza’z profile.

The article reviews the question of interpretation of natural gases component composition from the aspect of their evolution. The parameters available for study, which show a strong correlation with the conditions of formation, migration and accumulation of natural hydrocarbon gases, are selected. Among these parameters, the ratio of the butanes isomeric form (i-C4/n-C4) was selected for thermodynamic analysis as a dependable indicator of the kerogen degradations temperature regime. It is shown that the dependence of the i-C4/n-C4 ratio on the normalized methane content shows the trend of increasing kerogen maturity, and deviations from this trend indicate a distant migration of hydrocarbon fluid from the formation zone to the current deposit. Analysis of the residence and thermodynamic conditions of hydrocarbons in the deposits of the Western oil and gas region showed that kerogen/gas systems are in a state close to equilibrium, in terms of thermodynamics. The composition of the gas/kerogen equilibrium system in the conditions of sedimentary thickness for two heat fluxes – 75 and 100 mW/m2 was calculated by the method based on Jaynes’s formalism. Among hydrocarbons in gases, the content of isomeric forms of butane and pentane, as well as methane, ethane and propane was calculated. The results of the calculations revealed a monotonic dependence of the equilibrium temperature and depth of formation on the ratio of isobutane to n-butane. It was found that the results of thermodynamic calculations coincide with experiments on kerosene pyrolysis and correlate with studies of the composition and residence of natural gases. Equilibrium formation temperatures were determined for 59 gas, oil and gas condensate fields of the Western oil and gas region, the information on which contained data on the i-C4/n-C4 ratio. Based on the results of calculations, maps of these temperatures distribution within the region were constructed. The analysis of the maps showed the presence of two distinct temperature maxima, which are concentrated in the Boryslav-Pokuttya oil and gas region and are located at the intersection of regional faults. It has been suggested that the hydrocarbon source is significantly distant from modern deposits for the study region. The results of the calculation are compared with the data obtained using the model of fossil hydrocarbons inorganic origin.

The article highlights the traditional ideas of Ukrainians about the choice of cattle color that and clarifies the semantics of the use of animal hair in construction ceremonies. The study is based on both published and field ethnographic materials of the authors from Polissya, historical and ethnographic Volhynia, Boykivshchyna, Hutsulshchyna, Pokuttya. It is stated that sometimes the empirical approach was decisive in choosing the color of cattle. At the same time, Ukrainians were often guided by irrational motives, choosing cattle that were favorable for the economy: they sought the advice of a “healer”, took into account the “preferences” of the hobgoblin or its “color”, the color of the wеasеl or snake that lived on the housеhold. It is important that the wеasеl and the snake in many parts of Ukraine are also identified with the domestic spirit – the hobgoblin. As a rule, the best animals for breeding were those whose color corresponded to the hair color of the host, the color of the hobgoblin, the wеasеl, and/or the domestic snake. It was determined that the customs of “the construction start” and “entrance to a new house” played an important role in ensuring successful cattle breeding. In “construction start” the wool of some certain color was used as a “building sacrifice”. The interpretation of “zaklad” in the building as a symbolic sacrifice (which probably replaced the sacrifice directly by the animal) to the souls of the deceased is confirmed by the cases of identical use of wool in funeral rites. It was found out that the well-being of the farm and whether the owner would “keep” cattle of one color or another, Ukrainians associated with the assistance of the souls of the dead, including the hobgoblin.

The article is devoted to the issue of the peculiarities of the embodiment of postmodern features in the musical space of Ukraine in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. This period is characterized by the rejection of the generally accepted laws of musical art in favor of individualization of composers' creativity. The synthesis of styles, genres, and techniques becomes postmodern poetics and a new cultural tradition. Among the well-known national artists of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, a prominent place belongs to the figure of O. Kozarenko. The relevance of the study is related to constructive changes in art, the dynamism of the musical sphere, and the original composer's creativity, which require art historical analysis. The purpose of the article is to determine the characteristic features of postmodernism and their embodiment in the works of O. Kozarenko. The question of the peculiarities of O. Kozarenko's creative method has repeatedly been the subject of research by such national musicologists as O. Komenda, N. Shvets-Savytska, S. Pavlyshyn, Y. Chekan and others. However, in our opinion, the analysis of the composer's creative style in the context of postmodernism requires a more thorough study. In O. Kozarenko's works, we can observe an original synthesis of postmodern aesthetics and national language, genre and style synthesis, search for new intonation colours, orchestral combinations, use of allusion, aleatorics, and sonority. These and other features that are revealed in the author's instrumental, symphonic, and spiritual works are evidence of a postmodern personality. Having examined the peculiarities of O. Kozarenko's musical language on the example of the compositions «Five Wedding Ladkani from Pokuttya» «Concerto Rutheno», «Pierrot is Dead», we can conclude that the author's postmodern style is characteristic of both these works and other works by O. Kozarenko. The prospect of further research, in our opinion, is the analysis of traditional and innovative compositional solutions of O. Kozarenko's sacred music.

The purpose of the work is to present widely to the scientific community and analyze in detail the structure and oil and gas bearing of the Bukovyna lithosphere (the eastern part of the Carpathian region of Ukraine) based on the unique data on the regional RWМ-CDP profile RP-5 and on the neighboring regional profiles with the involvement of other geological and geophysical data. The methodology includes a detailed comprehensive analysis of the deep structure and oil and gas bearing and oil and gas prospects of the region and its separate zones based on seismic data on the regional profile RP-5 and nearby oil and gas bearing and oil and gas prospective areas with the involvement of a complex of geological and geophysical data. Results. In the zone of the profile RP-5, the occurrence of sedimentary strata and covers of the Folded Carpathians, the Carpathian foredeep and the edge of East-European craton in the earth's crust of Bukovyna was traced in detail, including the different depth tiers of the Carpathian thrusts and folds. The stepwise dipping of the edge of the East-European craton below the Carpathians is revealed here (generally similar to other segments of the Ukrainian Carpathians). The presence here of weakly dislocated autochthonous layers of Mesozoic rocks under the Carpathian thrusts is also established. In these horizons, several bands of folds of the Carpathian extension were discovered, some of them, in particular, the Lopushna fold, are associated with discovered oil and gas deposits. The thickening of the horizons of the lower crust under the axial part of the Bukovyna Folded Carpathians was revealed. In the pre-Carpathian part of the profile, there are 2 deepped ancient "seismofocal" zones of different age of formation and different vergence (researched in detail by S.G. Slonytska using special methods), as well as a number of apophysis-like intrusions. As a result of the comprehensive analysis, the influence of the characteristic features of the local Alpine geodynamic process was traced – the Alpine/Carpathian compression of the lithosphere in the northeast direction orthogonal to the Carpathians and the corresponding thrusts of the allochthon on the previously stepwise dipped here in the southwest direction western edge of the East-European craton as a result of rift-like pre-alpine geodynamic processes. Originality. The peculiarities of the deep structure, geodynamics, seismicity and oil and gas bearing of the Bukovyna lithosphere were determined based on the data of the regional profile RP-5, taking into account new data from oil and gas exploration studies in the subregion and data on various components of the geodynamic process in the whole Carpathian region of Ukraine. The oil and gas prospects of a number of deep folds of autochthonous Mesozoic rocks in the subthrust of the Pokuttya-Bukovyna Carpathians have been predicted and confirmed. Practical significance. The research results make it possible to more clearly justify the directions of oil and gas exploration in the subregion.

In the article the author traces the changes that have taken place with traditional instrumental ensembles of Western Ukraine during the 20th – beginning of the 21st centuries. Through this period the communicative capabilities of the environment increased rapidly, which significantly influenced the evolution of folk culture. The basis of the traditional ensembles of Western Ukrainian was the violin, to which was added, depending on the regions, a drum (tambourine), cymbals, bass, and a pipe instrument. Under the influence of various factors (interaction with representatives of other ethnographic regions or national minorities, writing culture, stage performances, remote communication, etc.), the instruments, repertoire, manner of performing, etc. in folk bands changed. During the 20th century the traditional instruments of ensembles were supplemented by others (clarinet, accordion, button accordion, trumpet, saxophone, trombone, etc.). Also, existing instruments were modified in some places (for example, the Hutsuls replaced small cymbals with large ones), or completely new ensembles were introduced to accompany traditional rituals or entertainments (brass bands or a variety of other popular ensembles). The repertoire of traditional ensembles is nowadays constantly replenished not only by the works of the local area in which musicians have an opportunity to perform, but also by the new-fangled samples of popular music. Under the influence of the written tradition, the manner of performing ensemble music is somewhat simplified. Currently, in most regions of Western Ukraine there is a setback and decline of the folk-instrumental ensemble tradition, with the exception of the Hutsul region (where young musicians still adopt this tradition orally) and partly Pokuttia, Zakarpattia, Podillia, Bukovyna, and Bessarabia, where for some occasions sometimes ―live‖ music of traditional or somewhat modified instruments is invited).
