Texto completo da fonteThe object of this thesis is to study how French Renaissance writers perpetuate and develop a corpus of plague representations, through imitation, personal experience and invention in their writings. This corpus is based on plague narratives and descriptions from major works of Antiquity (including The Iliad, The Bible, The History of the Peloponnesian War, The Georgics) and the Middle Ages (The Decameron, The Chirurgia Magna), often translated into French and published over the course of the first half of the sixteenth century.The first part of this work focuses on these translations, which may be read as works in their own right (allegories of war and religious unrest during the Renaissance), but are also a source of inspiration for authors of new plague writings.The second part of this thesis focuses on these creations. The authors, who sometimes depict themselves as survivors of the disease, borrow images from the pre-established corpus, adapting them to their own purposes. We highlight the images that reappear from one work to another (the influence of the existing corpus upon Clément Marot, Nostradamus, Pierre Boaistuau, Ambroise Paré, Michel de Montaigne and Agrippa d’Aubigné; the influence of predecessors upon their successors), while analyzing the function of these images in each new context.This work does not deal with the historical plague (the many diseases, from numerous eras, gathered under a generic name), but rather with the representations linked to a single, marvellous affliction, considered to be the “hand of God”. The plague becomes a codified, highly recognizable, literary genre at the close of the Renaissance

Texto completo da fonteThis dissertation, combining literary and translation studies, analyses Jeanette Winterson’s oeuvre through a multidisciplinary approach by focusing on six short stories from the collection The World and Other Places (1998). This two-pronged perspective reveals the centrality of emotions within the corpus. How do emotions evolve through the filter of translation? Winterson uses literary strategies efficiently engaging the reader’s attention. The translation of a selection of short stories contributes to establishing the act of translation as a practice merging reading, writing and creating. Since the original text and the translator’s emotions interact, the act of translation cannot be dissociated from emotion. By analysing how emotions converge in Winterson’s work, we show how the act of translation is closely tied to Winterson’s intentions: to acknowledge one’s emotions relates Winterson’s characters with one another as well as with the translator. Emotional commitment means not only a more creative and more accurate translation, it is also an invitation to self-translation. To translate Jeanette Winterson means translating a deeply cathartic conception of art, and urges us to consider a new phenomenology of translation, in which arises the therapeutic dimension of translation

Texto completo da fonteThe study of the places and people described in a literary work enables us to reveal the intensity of the relationship that links people to the place they live in. Through the concept of territory and using software for an automatic analysis of discourse, this research provides a survey of Provence as evoked by Frédéric Mistral in Calendal (1867). A conceptual environment of the country – developed from the definitions of present-time geographers –, helps us to bring out the tangible and intangible components of the provençal territory that the author wished to convey, especially in the late 18th century. In this work, special attention is given to the couples : “appropriation / territorialization” and “identity / territoriality”. From this original approach to the poem and its author, both chosen for their close links to Provence, are born new perspectives for a better understanding of the local pratices of a population attached to a place, at a given period

Texto completo da fonteIf we accept the idea that unlike modern novel, contemporary novel does not absolutely seek to recreate the human figure, but rather thinks of it as a « trans-individual » image of the human being, then the taking into account of the Obscene in the « Negro-African » literature's context of these last 30 years makes sense. The ludicrous break with the linearity and the use of language as cathartic effect enable to express differently a future which is more and more beyond our control.We are trying to understand the upsurge of the Obscene in the new african fiction writings as a contemporary symptom and a new approach on the part of tthe authors of the fourth generation, to truly comandeer the sense of the word « individual » in the « Negro-African » context.If, according to the Petit Larousse dictionary, the Obscene is « what offends openly the modesty through sexual representations », it has deep ethical consequences in a « Negro-African » context where strong cultural taboos on sexual initmacy productions exist. We will try to explain at what cost the Obscene can set itself up as an element of literarity or as a theory able to sustain the subject practising it. However, is a community still possible beyond the disruption of the ethical values caused by a possible aesthetic of the Obscene ?

Texto completo da fonteThis dissertation reflects on nature writing in French-speaking contemporary literature. Drawing on a corpus of literary texts from Europe (Chevillard, Michon, Mingarelli, Ollier, Réda, Rouaud, Simon, Tesson, Trassard) and the Caribbean (Chamoiseau, Glissant, Maximin), the author examines how awareness of ecological peril determines literary geographies and the representation of space more generally. North-American ecocriticism offers a part of the theoretical framework, but recent findings in European ecopoetics prove to be more suitable to analyse literature in French. The study shows that ecological awareness entails a new worldview that invalidates pre-existing representations of space. Thus, exploring the wilderness does not longer lead the observer to celebrate the sublime landscapes that nature offers him. On the contrary, the encounter with the wilderness tends to be unsuccessful, and if it entails any sublime experience, it is equally a temporary and a fragile one. Likewise, the prehistoric narrative does not longer rely on the literary strategies of the traditional prehistoric novel: rather than to reconstruct a prehistoric time and to show the triumphant arrival of humankind as does the latter, the contemporary narrative conducts in the present an uncertain and troubled investigation regarding the significance of prehistoric human traces. Literary texts thus show the discrepancy between the relativity of human history and the permanence of geological time. They underline the need to reconfigure traditional representations of space and question the central position that humankind attributes to himself. Literature then promotes space as a plastic and mobile entity. The garden more precisely appears to be a motive that reconciles human efforts of planning and managing with the disorderly energy of nature. Contemporary literary aesthetics appear then to be determined by an ecopoetic mobility that signals a new empathy with the world
In deze studie wordt het natuurschrijven (nature writing) in de hedendaagse Franssprekende literatuur ondervraagdUitgaand van een corpus van Europese (Chevillard, Michon, Mingarelli, Ollier, Réda, Rouaud, Simon, Tesson, Trassard) en Caribische teksten (Chamoiseau, Glissant, Maximin), bestudeert de auteur hoe de bewustwording van de ecologische crisis de literaire afbeelding van plaats beïnvloedt. Het theoretisch kader wordt deels door de Noord-Amerikaanse ecokritiek verschaft, maar de recente ondervindingen van de Europese ecopoetiek blijken nog beter aangepast aan de Franstalige literatuur. Het onderzoek toont aan dat de ecologische crisis een nieuw wereldbeeld meebrengt dat de traditionele weergave van plaats in vraag stelt. De verkenning van de wildernis leidt bijvoorbeeld niet tot een sublimering van het natuurlandschap, maar de ontdekkingen van de reiziger blijven beperkt tot een gedempt subliem, een tijdelijke gebeurtenis die op elk ogenblik onderbroken kan worden. Het prehistorisch verhaal vernieuwt evenzeer de literaire structuren van de traditionele prehistorische roman. Daar waar deze laatste de prehistorische tijd getrouw weergeeft en de triomf van de mensheid in beeld brengt, vertelt het prehistorische verhaal veeleer een twijfelende en angstig zoektocht omtrent de prehistorische sporen van de mensheid in het landschap. De relatieve historische tijd van de mens contrasteert zo met de ononderbroken eeuwigheid van de geologische tijd. Wat de literatuur dan naar voor brengt, is de nood om de bestaande verwoordingen van ruimtegevoel te herzien en om de mens te doen afzien van de centrale plaats die hij zich gewoonlijk toekent. Plaats is dan, zoals de teksten aantonen, een plastisch en mobiel gegeven. Zo blijkt de tuin een plek te zijn die de menselijke zin voor ordening en vormgeving verzoent met de ontembare energie van de natuur. De esthetische weergave van plaats in de hedendaagse literatuur beantwoordt zo aan een ecopoëtische beweeglijkheid als teken van een vernieuwde overeenstemming met de wereld

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis aims at re-defining the French concept of« place of memory » as defined by Pierre Nora in the West Indian and African spaces through the relationship between literature and history. Indeed, slavery, colonisation and apartheid serve as a background to a wide range of representations of places of memory in West Indian and African literatures. This thesis is composed of three main sections. The first section provides some historical context that allows connecting Africa and Caribbean Islands. The second section scrutinizes the topographic aspect of the places of memory in various ways: toponymy, heterotopia, spaces of power and landscapes. The third section, which sheds light on the notion of figure of memory, focuses on the experiences of historical and fictional characters, which enable to define new kinds of heroism.To that extent, this study leads to think about the challenges of collective memory of people in a postcolonial background in which « memories war » spreads out

Texto completo da fonteThe object of this study is literary plagiarism in Spanish Literatures, from a historical, theoretical and practical approach. From a historical point of view, plagiarism perception and representation have encountered important evolutions. However, they have preserved common elements. A plagiarist is an ‘untruthful author’, but to this basic notion other materials have been attached from a number of epistemological and disciplinary perspectives. Considered first as a mere moral or legal infringement and subsequently assimilated to a certain concept of intertextuality, recent studies make use of pragmatic approaches to intend an explanation of the ambiguous and polemic nature of the subject. This thesis studies the phenomenon from a multidisciplinary approach, gaining with the contributions collected from Law, Comparative Literature, History or the different national literatures, though maintaining its focus on Spanish Literatures. The study is divided in three parts. The first one deals with the emergence, instauration and evolution of the concept until approximately the end of the XVIIth century. Secondly, different theories are reviewed in relation with the particular disciplinary approaches adopted. Finally, practical applications of plagiarism are considered: normative, strategic, ideological or artistic uses.This study offers a general view of the subject and both a theoretical and a literary corpus, until presently scattered in monographic works, in order to propose some possible research guidelines on plagiarism in the realm of the Spanish Literatures
La presente investigación tiene como objeto el plagio literario en las literaturas hispánicas desde una dimensión histórica, teórica y práctica. Desde el punto de vista histórico, la percepción del plagio y su representación discursiva han sufrido evoluciones importantes, aunque siempre han conservado elementos comunes. Un plagiario es un “falso autor”, pero esta noción de base se ha ido enriqueciendo a partir de materiales provenientes de numerosos horizontes epistemológicos y discursivos. Considerado como una mera infracción moral o jurídica y, posteriormente, asimilado a una difusa noción de intertextualidad, los estudios más recientes se sirven de la pragmática para intentar explicar la naturaleza ambigua y po-lémica de la cuestión. Esta tesis aborda el fenómeno desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar, reaprovechando las contribuciones hasta ahora dispersas en la literatura comparada, el derecho, la historia o las distintas literaturas naciona-les, pero conservando en su centro de interés las literaturas hispánicas. El estudio se divide en tres partes. Una primera que concierne la aparición, consolidación y evolución de la noción hasta fines del siglo XVII. En la segunda parte, se exponen las distintas teorías sobre el plagio, en relación con las perspectivas disciplinarias adoptadas. Por último, se ana-lizan las aplicaciones prácticas del plagio: sus usos normativos, estratégicos, ideológicos o artísticos. El plagiarismo como procedimiento creativo está presente en numerosos movimientos de diferentes épocas, asociado especialmente a la vanguardia y a la Posmodernidad.Este trabajo propone una visión y un corpus teórico y literario de conjunto sobre estos contenidos, hasta ahora dispersos en obras esencialmente monográficas, con la esperanza de que abran nuevas líneas de investigación en el ámbito de la literatura hispánica
