In induction heating, one is often brought to solve the system of coupled equations:Thermal physical caracteristics (calorific capacity and thermal conductivity.) and electromagnetic (permeability, susceptibility, reluctivity, permittivity, electric conductivity) depend on the temperature for the first, the temperature and the magnetic or electric field for the seconds. The modelisation of the permeability according to the only applied field magnetic abounds in the scientific literature. But, its modelisation as a function of the applied field and also temperature is rather rare. The goal of this work is thus to establish this double modelisation. In this intention, we will use the heat equation, the Maxwell's equations and the function of Brillouin, wich is the physical and formally basis of this modelisation.

The composing semiconductors became the support privileged of information and the communication, in particular grace to the faster development of Internet, for the systems of telecommunications to high debit, some components are necessary. It is for this reason that of the alternative structures have been proposed: the IV-IV heterostructures or III-V. The most effective components in this domain are the field effect transistors (High Electron Mobility Transistor: HEMT) on IIIV substratum. The present work is dedicated to the contribution to the development of a numeric physical model which based on the influence of the different parameters (physical and geometric) on the parameters characterizing the potential at the interface of a heterostructure in GaAsAl/GaAs. The present work also has aim to characterize dynamics carriers in a HEMT heterostructure which we will consider later a dynamic study of quantum well solar cells in a rigorous and complete manner.

Many sources of heat can emanate from the operation of a rotating machine, and one of which is the friction among the different parts of the ball bearings. Over time, these frictions may lead to a tearing of matter of the rings or on the rolling elements that cause some type of degradation by flaking. Flaking, in turn, produces a repetitive shock as a new source of thermal energy. This work proposes a physical model for the study of the thermal heating of a ball bearing during operation. The resolution of the energy balance is achieved by the Nodal method where both the heating due to friction and the heat induced by the passage of the balls on defect are taken into account. The proposed thermal model is validated through an experimental thermal analysis. The obtained results show that the temperature increases in the position of defect ball ring with increasing rotational speed. The same results are obtained for the influence of radial load.

In aerated lagoons and even more in stabilization ponds the specific power (W/m3) is not high enough to maintain all the suspended solids in suspension. Some part of the suspended solids (including biomass) settles directly into the reactor and not in the final settling pond. The gradual accumulation of those sediments on the pond bottom affects performance by reducing the pond volume and shortening the Hydraulic Residence Time. However, the role played by these deposits is not restricted to such a physical effect. Far from being inert sediments they are also an important oxygen sink that must be taken into account when designing aerator power and oxygen supply, for example. On the other hand, under aerobic conditions, the upper layer of sediments may contribute to the treatment as a biofilm compartment in the reactor. In aerated lagoon systems another process contributes to the interaction of deposits and the liquid phase: the operating (often sequencing) of aerators may induce a drastic resuspension of deposits. In a 3,000 m3 aerated lagoon we evaluated that 3 tons of deposits were resuspended when aerators were started. Due to those processes we consider that a mathematical model of an aerated lagoon or of a stabilization pond has to take into account the contribution (positive and negative aspects) of deposits in the process. In this paper we propose a model for sediments including production but also biological processes. Simulations of the aerated lagoon with or without the “sediment compartment” demonstrate the effect and the importance of this compartment on the process. Of course a similar approach could be used for facultative or even maturation ponds. The next step would be to include anaerobic activities in the bottom layer.

This study presents an explanatory Ordinary Linear Regression Model for predicting wellbeing in the use of smart screen devices among children and youngsters in Spain, using a database of microdata for a total of 23,860 national representative households and some 6,106 total cohabiting minors under 15 years of age. The World Health Organization actively recommends children and youngsters to spend less hours in front of smart screen devices and encourages substituting them with more active play and direct socialisation. The main purpose of our research is to study the impact of the use of these devices on mental and physical well-being, sleep pattern, and the potential explanatory effects. To address the analysis, we contrasted the modelisation model proposed with microdata provided in the 2017 version of the National Health Survey in Spain. We performed a series of ordinary least square regression models OLS, obtaining significant information on the effects and risks excessive use of smart screen devices may be inflicting on children and adolescents in Spain. As a main result, we contrasted with the data and the modelisation that those individuals who use these devices more intensively have higher risk of mental health problems, significantly reduced sleeping hours and have a higher chance of suffering physical health problems such as obesity Este artículo presenta un Modelo Lineal General de Regresión para predecir el bienestar en el uso de pantallas inteligentes entre niños y jóvenes en España utilizando una base de datos de microdatos para un total de 23.860 hogares representativos nacionales y unos 6.106 menores cohabitantes de menos de 15 años. La Organización Mundial de la Salud recomienda activamente que los niños y jóvenes pasen menos horas frente a las pantallas inteligentes y alienta sustituirlas por un juego más activo y físico acompañado de socialización directa. The properties of polylactic acid (PLA) filaments have not yet been analysed in detail, and they are strongly affected by the extrusion process used in some additive manufacturing systems. Here we present the mechanical, thermal, physical, and fractographical properties of an extruded filament (not the bulk material or scaffolds), the basic building block of any PLA structure printed via material extrusion. This research aims to create a reference point for the modelisation of additively manufactured structures via extrusion processes, as the main building block is characterised in detail for a deep understanding. Furthermore, we investigated the natural ageing (up to one year), the effect of the printing (extruding) temperature (180 and 190 °C), and the effect of the crosshead speed during the tensile tests (10−1 to 102 mm/min) to provide a deeper analysis of the material. The results showed that the material extruded at 190 °C performed better than the material extruded at 180 °C. However, after one hundred days of natural ageing, both materials behaved similarly. This was related to the flow-induced molecular orientation during the extrusion. The crosshead rate produced a logarithmic increase of the mechanical properties, consistent with the Eyring model. Additionally, the ageing produced significant changes in both the elastic modulus and the yield strength: from 2.4 GPa and 40 MPa, in one-day-aged samples, up to 4 GPa and 62 MPa once entirely aged. Finally, it was observed that the glass transition and the enthalpic relaxation increased with ageing, agreeing with the Kohlraushch–William–Watts model.

Sodium cooled fast neutron reactors (SFR) are one of the selected reactor concepts in the framework of the Generation IV International Forum. In this concept, unprotected loss of cooling flow transients (ULOF), for which the non-triggering of backup systems is postulated, are regarded as potential initiators of core melting accidents. During an ULOF transient, spatial distributions of fuel, structure and sodium temperatures are affected by the core cooling flow decrease, which will modify the spatial and energy distribution of neutron in the core due to the spatial competition of neutron feedback effects. As no backup systems are triggered, sodium may reach its boiling temperature at some point, leading to local sodium density variations and making the transient fluctuate in a two-phase flow physics where thermal-hydraulics and neutronics may interact with each other. The transient phenomenology involves several physic disciplines at different time and spatial scales, such as core neutronics, coolant thermal-hydraulics and fuel thermo-mechanics. This paper presents the results of thermal-hydraulic/neutronic coupled simulations of an ULOF transient on the SFR project ASTRID. These coupled calculations are based on the supervisor platform SALOME to link the neutron code APOLLO3® to the system thermal-hydraulic code CATHARE3. The physical approach used by the coupling to describe the neutron kinetic is a quasi-static adiabatic one, updating the normalized spatial power distribution periodically by performing static neutron calculations, while a point kinetic model associated to a neutron feedback model calculates the power amplitude variations.

The effective temperature Teff is an important physical quantity in neutronic calculations. It can be introduced in a Free Gas Model to approximate crystal lattice effects in the Doppler broadening of the neutron cross sections. In the last decade, a few research works proposed analytical or Monte-Carlo perturbation schemes for estimating uncertainties in neutronic calculations due to thermal scattering laws. However, the relationship between the reported results with Teff was not discussed. The present work aims to show how the effective temperature can measure the impact of the thermal scattering law uncertainties on neutronic calculations. The discussions are illustrated with Monte-Carlo calculations performed with the TRIPOLI-4® code on the MISTRAL-1 benchmark carried out in the EOLE facility of CEA Cadarache (France) from room temperature to 354 K (80°C). The uncertainty analysis is focused on the impact of the thermal scattering laws of H2O and UO2 on the neutron multiplication factor keff for UOX fuel moderated by water. When using the H2O and UO2 candidate files for the JEFF-4 library, the variation range of Teff leads to a keff uncertainty of 2.3 pcm/K, on average. In the temperature range investigated in this work, Teff uncertainties of ±20 K for H2O and ±10 K for UO2 give uncertainties on the multiplication factor that remains close to ±50 pcm. Such a low uncertainty confirms the improved accuracy achieved on the modelisation of the latest thermal scattering laws of interest for light water reactors. In the future evaluated nuclear data libraries, uncertainty budget analysis associated with the low neutron energy scattering process will be a marginal contribution compared to the capture process.

Stator vanes which are found in axial compressors are subject to vibratory fatigue. Their division into monoblock sectors makes the prediction of their vibratory behaviour difficult by deterministic methods due to the loss of the cyclic symmetry properties and also to a high sensitivity to mistuning. The purpose is to present a robust calculation strategy based on a stochastic modelisation of the structure. The methodology has been developed first on a simplified model and then applied to an industrial case. Polynomial chaos based results are in good agreement with reference Monte Carlo simulations.

In this paper, we discuss the different modelisations of the rupture of aggregates in ER or MR fluids. In particular, we show that microstructural models which take into account the separation between the particles inside tha aggregates give predictions very different from those based on a continuum approach. Some experimental results help us to discuss the reliability of each approach.. Creep measurements were made on TiO2 particles dispersed in silicon oil. They give information on the critical deformation at which the aggregates break. An experimental model consisting of millimetric steel spheres in a magnetic field allows us to understand the different possible mechanisms of rupture.

The originality of this work is to applied Amperian Approach for modelling HTS bulk especially in electrical motor applications. This approach has proven its efficiency in electrical materials having a constant conductivity. For HTS materials, the resistivity change brutally and have a non linear comportment through any external magnetic field variations. To success the modelisation, we have to create an iterative procedure. All simulation steps are based on the power law model for computing resistivity and current densities adding the fixed point method for non linear iterations. The majority of our results concern the current densities in the HTS bulk rotor with different critical currents constatations under mgnetic field created by three phase coils of the proposed superconducting synchronous motor (SSM) prototype. Some results are consolidated by numerical way using flux 2D software.

This work of applied mathematics with interfaces in bio-physics focuses on the shape identification and numerical modelisation of a single red blood cell shape. The purpose of this work is to provide a quantitative method for interpreting experimental observations of the red blood cell shape under microscopy. In this paper we give a new formulation based on classical theory of geometric shape minimization which assumes that the curvature energy with additional constraints controls the shape of the red blood cell. To minimize this energy under volume and area constraints, we propose a new hybrid algorithm which combines Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Gravitational Search (GSA) and Neural Network Algorithm (NNA). The results obtained using this new algorithm agree well with the experimental results given by Evans et al. (8) especially for sphered and biconcave shapes.
