This paper is a critical notice of a recent significant contribution to the debate about fitting attitudes and value, namely Toni Rønnow-Rasmussen’s Personal Value (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2011). In this book, Rønnow-Rasmussen seeks to analyse the notion of personal value—an instance of the notion of good for a person—in terms of fitting attitudes. The paper has three main themes: (i) Rønnow-Rasmussen’s discussion of general problems for fitting attitude analyses; (ii) his formulation of the fitting attitude analysis of personal value and the notion of ‘for someone’s sake (fss) attitudes’; and (iii) his critique of the dichotomy between agent-neutral and agent-relative reasons.

Improving communication and engagement with the public is vital for implementing sustainable development goals (SDGs). Public attitude toward SDGs can influence this engagement, as people are more likely to accept SDG-relevant information and take actions that are consistent with their own attitudes. This study examines the determinants for individual attitudes in supporting SDGs and further explores the formation of public attitudes toward SDGs, i.e., how public attitude is shaped by the value orientations and norms of the individuals. Using an online survey (n = 3089), we uncovered several important findings: (1) individuals’ altruistic/biospheric value orientations are positively associated with pro-SDG attitudes; (2) personal norms mediate the relationship of individuals’ altruistic values and attitudes; (3) some demographic characteristics (i.e., age, gender, having children) moderate the relationship of people’s value orientations and attitudes; and (4) people’s biospheric values have heterogeneous effects on their pro-SDG attitudes based on education and income. Through these findings, this study enhanced the public’s general understanding of SDGs by providing a holistic analytical framework of public attitude formation on SDGs and uncovering the significant role of value orientations. We further identify the moderating effects of demographic characteristics and the mediating effects of personal norms in the relationship between individuals’ values and attitude on SDGs.

Perinatal bereavement care encompasses holistic support and services offered by healthcare professionals, addressing physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs of bereaved parents which are most often ignored in clinical settings. This hospital-based descriptive study aimed to assess knowledge, attitudes, and associated factors regarding perinatal bereavement care among nursing personnel in a tertiary care hospital in central India. A total of 207 nursing personnel selected through non-probability convenient sampling participated in the study. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale and dichotomous scale. The study revealed that 78.3 percent of nursing personnel possessed average knowledge, while 73.4 percent exhibited a positive attitude towards perinatal bereavement care. Several influencing factors were identified, including personal perinatal grieving experiences, a history of other grieving experiences, existing hospital policies, regular training and Continuing Nursing Education, as well as traditional beliefs and values. Further, a positive correlation between the knowledge and attitude of nursing personnel regarding perinatal bereavement care came to light. Significant associations were observed between knowledge scores, attitudes, and demographic variables such as age, total work experience, years of experience in maternity wards, personal loss experiences, and past experience in handling grieving parents among nursing personnel. The study underscores the importance of perinatal bereavement care in providing support to grieving parents and emphasises the need for nursing personnel to possess both knowledge and a compassionate attitude in this regard. The study recommends the establishment of Standard Operating Procedures for Perinatal Bereavement Care within the hospital and the implementation of regular Continuing Nursing Education and training programmes to create a supportive environment.

This research finds evidence for reliable individual differences in people’s perceived attitude stability that predict the actual stability of their attitudes over time. Study 1 examines the reliability and factor structure of an 11-item Personal Attitude Stability Scale (PASS). Study 2 establishes test–retest reliability for the PASS over a 5-week period. Studies 3a and 3b demonstrate the convergent and discriminant validity of the PASS in relation to relevant existing individual differences. Studies 4 and 5 show that the PASS predicts attitude stability following a delay period across several distinct topics. Across multiple attitude objects, for people with high (vs. low) scores on the PASS, Time 1 attitudes were more predictive of their Time 2 attitudes, indicative of greater attitudinal consistency over time. The final study also demonstrates that the PASS predicts attitude stability above and beyond other related scales.

The aim of this study was to investigate the human-animal relationship on dairy goat farms, in particular associations between stockpeople's attitudes towards goats ( Capra hircus) and actual behaviour when handling goats and making decisions. Data were collected on 45 Austrian and German dairy goat farms. Attitude questionnaires of 119 stockpeople (58 female, 61 male) were analysed and 14 attitude components were extracted by five Principal Component Analyses (PCA) regarding general attitudes about goats and human-animal relationship, behavioural attitudes about specific human-goat interactions and interactions during milking, and affective attitudes. To investigate associations between stockpeople's attitudes and their subsequent behaviour, we calculated linear and logistic regression analysis on their behaviour during milking (n = 53 milkers) and on management decisions (n = 45 farms). Several attitude components were predictors of behaviour during milking. The attitude ' Needs of goats ' was included in all models: the higher stockpeople scored on ' Needs of goats ', the more positive interactions they showed and the less likely they were to use negative interactions. Gender influenced five attitude components: females showing greater agreement than males on positive general and affective attitudes, eg ' Needs of goats .' Regarding management, the more strongly decision-makers disagreed on using negative interactions during milking, the better was their farm's housing and management. To conclude, these results highlight the importance of the stockpeople's attitudes, not only for the interactions with their animals, but also for their decisions related to management and housing. Our results indicate opportunities for improvement of animal welfare by training specifically targeting stockpeople's attitudes.

Regardless of the integration of technology into English learning at school brings an abundance of advantages, there are still very few teachers who have been implementing technology. iPad as a learning medium in English language learning has been widely applied in many countries. However, the use of iPad for English language learning in Banda Aceh is still considered uncommon. Descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach was carried to find out an English teacher’s attitude towards the integration of iPad in English teaching-learning class in Al-Azhar Cairo Islamic Junior High School in Banda Aceh. An observation sheet and guided interview were used to gather the data. The data analysis was processed in the form of condensation data, display data, and conclusion data which are proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). The findings show that the English teacher delivered 91 utterances consisted of 34 affective attitudes, 28 conative attitudes, 16 evaluative attitudes, and 13 cognitive attitudes. The highest frequency attitude showed by the teacher is the affective attitude meanwhile the lowest is the cognitive attitude.

The aim of the article is to show how cognitive attitudes are formed among military academy cadets through didactic intellectual-cognitive games. The authors highlight the importance and necessity of enhancing and developing the mindset towards the values of cognitive activities in cadets within the pedagogical process as a crucial element in preparing them for future military-professional activities. The research is novel in that it is the first to demonstrate that the formed cognitive attitudes serve as the basis for the successful professional and personal development of military personnel, leading to achieving a high level of professionalism and competence. As a result, the study identifies the criteria and levels of cognitive attitudes formation among cadets; clarifies the notion of a cognitive attitude, outlines the factors influencing the formation of cognitive attitudes, reveals the advantages of using interactive teaching methods in the architectonics of modern educational space, and highlights the didactic potential of intellectual-cognitive games in shaping cognitive attitudes among cadets.

Purpose This paper presents an initial development of a personal data attitude (PDA) measurement instrument based on established psychometric principles. The aim of the research was to develop a reliable measurement scale for quantifying and comparing attitudes towards personal data that can be incorporated into cybersecurity behavioural research models. Such a scale has become necessary for understanding individuals’ attitudes towards specific sets of data, as more technologies are being designed to harvest, collate, share and analyse personal data. Design/methodology/approach An initial set of 34 five-point Likert-style items were developed with eight subscales and administered to participants online. The data collected were subjected to exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and MANOVA. The results are consistent with the multidimensionality of attitude theories and suggest that the adopted methodology for the study is appropriate for future research with a more representative sample. Findings Factor analysis of 247 responses identified six constructs of individuals’ attitude towards personal data: protective behaviour, privacy concerns, cost-benefit, awareness, responsibility and security. This paper illustrates how the PDA scale can be a useful guide for information security research and design by briefly discussing the factor structure of the PDA and related results. Originality/value This study addresses a genuine gap in research by taking the first step towards establishing empirical evidence for dimensions underlying personal data attitudes. It also adds a significant benchmark to a growing body of literature on understanding and modelling computer users’ security behaviours.

Despite much effort at improving availability of health commodities, stock-outs and expiries are still commonplace at service delivery centres. The success of any inventory management programme relies on the people undertaking it and there seems to be a missing link in the supply chain that could be related to the people tasked with inventory management at service delivery points. The study thus sought to assess whether the personnel’s knowledge, attitude, perceptions and practices are the missing link resulting in stock-outs and expires. The study employed a mixed method approach wherein quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were employed. The data collected sought to explore various aspects of the personnel including the training facility regarding inventory management, personal attitudes and, perceptions and practices towards certain inventory management aspects. Clearly it was found that personnel knowledge levels were very low, attitudes and perceptions veer in the negative whilst practices are not up to standard. This correlated to the availability of drugs and commodities at service delivery points.

The present research featured the relationship between assumptions about self-worth as a characteristic of identity and the attitude to threats as part of general attitude to personal security. The study was based on R. Janoff-Bulman’s theory of basic assumptions and related methodology. Attitudes to personal security were assessed according to an authentic methodology as scores given to various threats. Assumptions of self-worth appeared to determine the values of threats in certain combinations with assumptions about the environment. For instance, respondents with high anxiety expressed a world-is-badbut-I-am-good kind of attitude, while those with lower anxiety possessed a world-is-bad-but-I-am-lucky attitude. However, identity as the relationship between ideas about one’s self and the environment needs further research. In addition, studies on identity as the key source of personal security attitudes is a promising research topic.

This study examines the relationship between five dimensions of attitude toward death (fear of death, death avoidance, neutral acceptance of death, approach acceptance of death, and escape acceptance of death) and three selected personal factors (spirituality, emotional support, and religiosity) among American and Chinese older adults. A total of 178 older adults consisting of 91 Americans living in Columbus, Ohio, and surrounding suburban areas, and 87 Chinese living in Taipei, Taiwan, participated in this study. Among Americans, the results reveal that spirituality influences both fear and avoidance of death attitudes, and that spirituality and religiosity contribute to both approach acceptance and escape acceptance of death attitudes. Among Chinese, spirituality influences fear of death attitudes and religiosity influences approach acceptance of death attitudes. For both American and Chinese subjects, neutral acceptance death attitude is not influenced by any selected personal factors and emotional support fails to demonstrate a significant relationship with any death attitude. American and Chinese older adults derive their spirituality in different ways, and their respective religious faiths contribute differently to their attitudes toward death. However, this study clearly indicates that, despite cultural differences, both populations demonstrate that spirituality factor influences the negative dimensions of death attitudes (fear of death and avoidance of death) and the religiosity factor influences the positive dimension of death attitude (acceptance of death).

Abstract Health care personnel (HCP) are at high risk of acquiring influenza due to exposure to patients. However, vaccination in HCP is lower than 40% for most European countries. The aim of this study was to determine the attitude towards influenza vaccination and possible reasons for this attitude in HCP. A cross-sectional study was performed in a multidisciplinary hospital of Latvia. The sample (n = 1099) included doctors (239), nurses (418), care services (236), administrative staff (108), and technical support staff (98). Five questions addressed vaccination of planned patients and HCP, knowledge of etiological anti-influenza drugs, and their storage at the hospital for immediate use. The results revealed that the level of regular vaccination against influenza in HCP was relatively low (14%). This contrasted with a more positive attitude towards vaccination of patients (53%) and personnel (60%). This contrast provided evidence for a low level of proactive action. High expectations regarding medications covered by the hospital (82%) indicated transferring of part of personal responsibility to the organisation. Doctors demonstrated a better understanding of the problem and a higher level of vaccination. However, some of doctors’ attitudes showed underestimation of influenza-associated risk.

Digital agricultural communication and services enhance agricultural production by delivering real-time data, information, and support to stakeholders, thereby substantially extending the reach and impact of agricultural extension. The study, conducted in 2023, encompassed all three agro-climatic zones within Telangana and employed an ex post facto research design. Data collection involved personal interviews with a sample size of 180 farmers, 30 input dealers, 30 extension personnel, and 30 scientists. The study found that more than half (57.04%) of the overall sample expressed favorable attitudes toward digital agricultural communication and services. Mean attitude scores varied, with scientists scoring the highest (172.87), followed by farmers (169.23), extension personnel (166.37), and input dealers (165.23). Regression analysis using selected independent variables produced R2 values of 0.789 for farmers, 0.805 for input dealers, 0.720 for extension personnel, and 0.870 for scientists, indicating the effectiveness of the chosen independent variables in explaining changes in the dependent variable. These findings indicate the favourable attitude of stakeholders towards digital agricultural communication and services, laying a strong foundation for advancing digitalization in agriculture. This could enhance information dissemination and service improvements in the agricultural ecosystem.

Evaluation of the perception of safety attitudes among physicians and nurses in hospitals is important to ensure optimum patient care. The objectives are to assess the perception of medical personnel on safety attitudes at their workplace and to measure the correlation between domains and factors studied. A cross-sectional study involving 160 physicians and 304 nurses is conducted at a teaching hospital. A validated Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) consisting of 6 domains is used to measure the perception of medical personnel on safety attitude at their workplace. The Mann-Whitney test was performed for the comparison of the mean scores between two categorical variables and Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the relationship between two numerical variables in terms of strength and direction. Job satisfaction (73.4 ± 17.6) and management perception (56.1 ± 12.9) domains recorded the highest and lowest mean scores respectively. Doctors showed the highest perceived positive attitudes towards stress identification (57.5%) whereas perception of management (9.4%) has the lowest score, and the nurses showed the highest perceived positive attitudes towards job satisfaction (74.3%), and a low score of perception of management (10.9%). Overall, climate safety and stress recognition domains showed significant correlations with age, level of education, years in specialty, and history of attending safety training. The study results indicated that the medical personnel had low positive safety attitudes towards the management perceptions domain. However, they reported a high level of job satisfaction domain. It is imperative for the management team to take the necessary steps to ensure the personnel develops a positive safety attitude.

This study examines the complex connection linking religion, social attitudes, and human rights in Romania, drawing on the classic distinction between extrinsic religiosity (as reflected in church attendance) and intrinsic religiosity (as reflected in personal prayer). The hypothesis that these forms of religiosity may function differently in relation to different areas of social attitudes is tested among Romanian Orthodox adolescents (N = 400), drawing on validated measures developed by the International Empirical Research Program Religion and Human Rights 2.0 to assess attitude toward socio-economic human rights and attitude toward euthanasia and abortion. In respect of attitude toward euthanasia and abortion, church attendance and personal prayer work in the same direction and with cumulative effect. Lowest acceptance of euthanasia and abortion is found among young people who attend church and pray. In respect of attitude toward socio-economic human rights, church attendance and personal prayer work in opposite directions. Frequent church attendance (extrinsic religiosity) is associated with lower endorsement of socio-economic human rights. Frequent prayer (intrinsic religiosity) is associated with higher endorsement of socio-economic human rights.

Emergency healthcare is the first sight of intervention for suicide attempts. Therefore, the attitudes of emergency health personnel towards suicidal tendencies are of great importance. The aims of this study are; to determine the attitudes and behaviors of emergency service workers towards attempted suicide cases, which are frequently encountered in emergency services, and to determine whether they are influenced by job satisfaction and burnout. The sample of the descriptive correlational study consists of 282 healthcare professionals working in the emergency services of Tokat and its districts. The data were collected using a questionnaire method through a personal information form, a scale determining the attitudes of emergency health workers towards attempted suicide cases (SAEHS), occupational burnout inventory (OBI) and job satisfaction survey (JSS). A total of 282 healthcare personnel, 159 women and 123 men, participated in the study. The participants had a positive attitude towards patients who attempted suicide, and the results indicated that this was not affected by variables such as age, gender, level of education, profession, marital status, years of experience, weekly working hours and shift schedules. While there was a significant positive, moderate or weak correlation between SAEHS and its sub-groups; a negative correlation with very low significance was found between SAEHS and OBI. On the other hand, the results suggested that there was a positive correlation with very low significance between SAEHS and JSS. Although emergency service workers approach attempted suicide patients with a positive attitude, this can be improved with an increase in job satisfaction and a decrease in burnout. It would be beneficial to include healthcare professionals in pre and post-graduation training programs regarding suicide cases and to collaborate with psychiatric services.

Previous research suggests that employees are often unaware of or ambivalent toward substance abuse policies. These studies focus on one policy component-drug-testing-and fail to distinguish employees with clear (or crystallized) from unclear attitudes. The current study explored a broader view of policy and examined both personal and situational factors that may determine attitudes. Survey data from employees in three municipalities support a distinction among five attitude categories; those who are: (a) dissatisfied with efforts to control employee abuse, (b) satisfied, (c) anti-policy, (d) pro-policy, and (e) uninformed. Discriminant analyses suggest that different profiles characterize these attitude groups. For example, dissatisfied employees report low personal alcohol use, high co-worker alcohol use, and low self-referral whereas anti-policy employees report high personal drug use, high co-worker use, and low job identity. Discussion focuses on policy as a social construction and the implications of attitude distinctions for employee training.

The article discusses the features of the personal qualities of military personnel. For any profession, it is important to pay attention to the professional suitability of a person for the same type of activity. The armed forces are an integral part of society and thestate, therefore, the personality and psychology of actions considered in the article are reflected in every action of military personnel. The most important element of the combat capabilities of the army is the high moral and psychological state of military personnel. It is wellknown that "morale... is the most powerful weapon known to man; more powerful than the heaviest tank, than the most destructive bomb. High morale is a means that can turn defeat into victory. The moral and psychological state is a combination of psychological capabilities, the degree of mobilization and mental attitude of each serviceman for active and selfless actions in a combat situation. The most important factor in the formation and strengthening of the fighting spirit of soldiers is scientifically based psychological work with military personnel aimed at forming their mental resistance to the powerful stressors of modern combat and their psychological readiness to effectively solve combat tasks in accordance with their regular purpose.

The pivotal aspect of patient care within the operating room is the operating room personnel. Therefore, assessing their knowledge, attitudes, and practices concerning sterile techniques in the operating theatre is crucial, as infections pose a significant risk to post-operative patient morbidity and mortality. Wound infections are the second most prevalent type of hospital-acquired nosocomial infection in the United States. Recognizing that inadequate infection control and sterile technique practices in the operating room can contribute to wound infections, it is imperative to establish infection control principles and adhere to sterile technique standards. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of operating room personnel with respect to sterile techniques at Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) in Peshawar. A cross-sectional descriptive study approach was employed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of operating room personnel in the operating theaters of KTH. One hundred and eighty operating room personnel from the selected hospitals were chosen from the population using a non-probability convenient sampling method. The self-administered questionnaires were used to gauge their understanding of, attitude toward, and adherence to sterile techniques. The study's findings revealed that most respondents (74%) were male, 44.2% fell within the age range of 25-30 years, and most (74.6%) had less than 10 years of experience. Many respondents exhibited good knowledge, a positive attitude, and solid practices regarding sterile techniques. In conclusion, the study found that operating room personnel displayed good knowledge, a positive attitude, and sound practices about sterile techniques. Furthermore, the study established a direct relationship between knowledge, attitude, and practice. As a result, it is recommended that operating room personnel should participate in additional workshops or seminars on sterile techniques to stay updated on new developments in this field.

Background. Stigmatizing attitudes to mental illness, and especially schizophrenia, are not limited to the general population but are also common among health professionals. Health professionals are in a position to model health related attitudes both in the general public and patients. Medical students are an interesting group to focus upon, since they are future health professionals and correcting stigmatizing attitudes is still possible during their educational curriculum.Methods. This study investigated the attitude toward mental illness in medical students at the Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy. We surveyed first year students, since they have not yet received specific classes or internships in psychiatry; 322 students from the Romanian and English sections participated, representing a response rate of 94.7%. The questionnaire consisted of the Romanian and English versions of Link's Social Distance Scale towards people with mental illness scale.Results. Overall, medical students had a relatively negative attitude towards people with mental illness, with moderate social distance and stereotypical attitudes. The level of personal contact with people with mental illness was correlated with positive attitudes. International students had scored lower then Romanian students on social distance toward mentally ill patients.Conclusions. Medical education can play an important role in the attitudes of students toward mental illness. Medical students have stigmatizing attitudes about mentally ill patients. Personal contact with people suffering from mental illness might contribute to a positive attitude from the medical students toward mentally ill patients.

The paper studied the relationship between the degree of dislike for representatives of various discriminated groups and the areas of discrimination by calculating the Pearson correlation. Predictors of discriminatory attitudes are established using regression analysis (step-by-step method). Structural modeling of the determinants of discriminatory attitudes of the individual by area (sphere) of discrimination and subject (discriminated group) using the SEM method is carried out. Participants. The study involved 217 people (the average age is 28.9±11.2 years, 36% of men). Measurements. We used the developed questionnaire and scales of discriminatory attitudes, the method of assessing values of Sh. Schwartz, a short version of the scales of the method of J. Dukkit. All scales are checked for meaningful validity and reliability. Results. It was found that the discriminatory attitude is most pronounced in the sphere of sports, education and career. Biases and rejection of representatives of different groups in various spheres of life are associated with the high significance of the values of personal and social security, power — resources, traditions (positive); values of interpersonal conformity and independence — thoughts (negative) and reputation as a desire to maintain a public image (ambivalent in different areas). The directions of relations between values, authoritarian attitudes, social identity and discriminatory attitudes are established. Сonclusions. It is shown that civil identity is a factor of institutional discrimination rather than domestic one. Adherence to an ethnic group affects the strength of a domestic discriminatory attitude directly, and institutional attitudes indirectly, through civic identity. As a result of structural equation modeling, a suitable model has been determined that explains up to 24% of variations in the outgroup discriminatory attitude and up to 25% of variations in the manifestation of biases in various spheres of life.

The article analyzes the salutogenic approach in psychology, reveals the role of an individual’s salutogenic attitudes to help counteract stress impact. The relationship between the constructs of salutogenesis and an individual’s hardiness are analyzed. An individual’s salutogenic orientation is understood by us as his/her value attitude to his/her own psychological health; and health is considered not as an absent illness, but as a state in the continuum between mental disorder and psychological well-being. The integral indicator of a valuable attitude to health is a sense of coherence as a special structure of attitudes that includes three interrelated components: comprehensibility, manageability, meaningfulness. The study purpose is to determine empirically the salutogenic factors of an individual’s hardiness. The study used the following methods: C. Riff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale; A. Antonovsky’s sense of connectedness scale, S. Maddi’s Hardiness Test; Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory; Ways of Coping questionnaire by S. Folkman and R.S. Lazarus. The study sample consisted of 183 people, 48 men and 135 women; average age was 37.7 ± 11.1 years. The correlations among the components of salutogenetic orientation, hardiness, coping strategies and time perspective were determined empirically. The resources of an individual’s general resistance, which alleviate stress impact and contribute to the individual’s optimal functioning, are related to understanding and assessment of a situation by the individual, existing acknowledged life goals, the ability to influence life events, one's own capabilities understood by the individual and existing positive relationships with others.

The development of financial products continues to grow, and users of financial products are increasing yearly. However, the increasing use of financial products is not matched by their good financial attitudes and knowledge. It can be seen from the high financial inclusion of the Indonesian people but their low literacy level. The literacy level is measured using attitude and behavior indicators in this case. This study examines whether financial knowledge, attitude, and locus of control affect the financial management behavior of employees in West Jakarta. This study used a descriptive research design, and data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 57 respondents according to the criteria. Data processing is done using PLS Algorithm on Smart-PLS. This study is to examine whether there is an influence of financial attitude, financial knowledge, and locus of control on the financial management behavior of employees in West Jakarta.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether celebrity admiration is associated with personal relative deprivation, impulsivity, and materialism. We gave the Celebrity Attitude Scale, the Personal Relative Deprivation Scale, the MacArthur Scale of Subjective Social Status, a subscale from the Consideration of Future Consequences-14, and the Material Values Scale, to 149 respondents recruited through Mechanical Turk. We found a weak but significant association between personal relative deprivation and celebrity attitudes. We successfully replicated earlier research showing that celebrity attitudes were positively correlated with material values and impulsivity. Personal relative deprivation also correlated positively with both material values and impulsivity. These findings suggest that the constructs of personal relative deprivation and celebrity attitudes appear to have much in common as both are associated with poor quality of life.

Background We examine the relationship between people’s personal values and their attitudes toward older adults. In addition to the two conventionally-used measures of personal values (agency subdimension and communion subdimension), we distinguish across 10 different value types and explore how each impacts attitude. Methods We use data from the World Values Survey for three aging Asian societies, namely Japan (N = 2448), Singapore (N = 1972), and Hong Kong PRC (N = 1000). For each sample, we perform regression-based analyses to assess the relative importance of the 10 value types in explaining people’s attitudes towards older adults. Results are then compared against regressions based on the two aggregate value measures. Results In all three economies, the agency subdimension was a more consistent predictor of unfavorable attitudes toward older adults, as compared to the communion subdimension. Our disaggregated analysis reveals two additional insights. First, the positive association between agentic values and attitudes was driven predominantly by the power (wealth) and stimulation (excitement) value types. Second, the lack of association between the communion subdimension and attitudes must be interpreted with caution since certain value types within this subdimension may act in opposite directions causing effects to cancel each other out at the aggregate level. Conclusions Disaggregating personal value types provides greater prognostic power than the two aggregate measures, as well as insights on ways to improve people’s attitudes toward older adults. Interventions aimed at reducing ageist attitudes in aging societies can target individuals with agentic traits by emphasizing notions of power (e.g., older adults’ economic success) and stimulation (e.g., positive images of older adults learning new things).

A cross-sectional survey was conducted to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, practices and zoonotic risk perception of Q fever among 484 selected cattle farmers (438) and veterinary personnel (46) in three northern regions of Cameroon. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires and responses were recoded into binary scale. An ANOVA test was used to assess significant differences in mean knowledge, attitude, practice and zoonotic risk perception (KAPP) scores between regions, while Linear regression was done to explore the relationship between demographic characteristic and KAPP. Overall, surveyed had low mean scores for knowledge (0.02 ± 0.11), desirable attitude (0.30 ± 0.16), appropriate practice (0.43 ± 0.13) and negative perception of zoonotic risks (0.05 ± 0.11). The means knowledge, attitude, practice and risks perception scores of cattle farmers were lower than those of veterinary personnel. The nature of respondent was negatively associated to knowledge and risks perception, while regions were negatively correlated to attitude and practice. These results revealed significant knowledge gaps, low levels of desired attitudes, and high-risk behavioral practices. To improve awareness, control programs are needed to update knowledge on medical personnel and to prevent animal-to-human transmission.
