Texto completo da fonteAs interaction designer, you participate in the ongoing debate on the development and future of information technology, and its role in society. Each design is part of something we can see as the overall work of planning society's development and future (Löwgren, J., p.17). Therefore, I also see opportunities for enriching the user experience for park visitors in public environments through better access to information about what is relevant in the parks because information is often beyond the context of the site for what is relevant, such as upcoming events or other current information. By enriching the user experience, I mean that I want to investigate how the user better receives the information available in public parks by allowing themselves to navigate through information on a interactive screen that can provide continuous up-to-date information for park visitors. I will also investigate in the design process whether an area on the screen is of interest to have as an interactive area for children at the bottom of the screen at the height of the children to entertain them while the adults can use the area above the screen as this may give the adults more time for the information and an entertaining value for the children. The information currently available in Malmö city is often not attracted to all visitors to the parks, which I noted through my field studies. Therefore, I also think there may be innovative ideas to improve the situation by examining alternative solutions or the reason why no more resources are used to improve information in the parks at the places where the information applies. Therefore, I will do my research at work by testing the design with an interactive information board with park events in context with the cultural events of the park and the information about the park for visitors through a prototype driven design process, which has proven to be able to provide value for the target audience through my investigations In my work although a critical design thinking has been necessary through the work mainly considering the location of the screen with the technical conditions of the design concept in the park.
Mhula, Alexandra Luis. "Science parks as mechanism to enhance the development of a knowledge-based economy in Mozambique". Thesis, University of the Western Cape, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/4642.
Texto completo da fonteThe 21st century marked the beginning of an era in which countries became increasingly dependent on information and communication technology (ICT). Technological change has not only become one of the key contributors to economic growth, it is also regarded as an essential element to enhance the general welfare of society (Hu, 2006). Not surprisingly, even governments of developing countries undertake various activities aimed at internalising the positive external impact of technological innovation in order to enhance the development of knowledge-based economies. Examples are the provision of basic information services, such as telephone- and internet services as well as distance learning technologies to make education more generally accessible. Another instrument that recently gained worldwide interest is the development of science parks, also known as information technology (IT) parks, techno parks or cyber parks. The rationale is to promote technological change, regional and/or urban development and to facilitate the diffusion of knowledge and technology through the establishment of knowledge networks. In 2004 there were approximately 600 science parks in the world, 70 percent of which were situated in the United States of America, Europe and Asia, but there is a growing trend towards its establishment in developing countries. However, the financing of such mega-projects in developing countries is especially problematic. A science park can be provided as a pure public project or pure private or through public-private partnerships (PPPs). Pure public financing is usually found in countries that have strong public sectors, such as China and India. On the other hand, in countries with well-developed private sectors they are mostly privately financed. In the case of most developing countries, private sectors are generally not developed enough and the public sectors cannot afford to finance projects of such a nature on a sustainable basis. These countries have no other option but to investigate the possibility of some other variation of a public-private-partnership (PPP) model. The Mozambican government acknowledges the urgency to enhance the development of a knowledge based economy and regards the establishment of a science park as a necessary policy intervention to provide the institutional basis for the diffusion of technological and communication innovation. As a result the country launched its first science park, to be developed in different stages, in 2008. But the real challenge for Mozambique lies in the financing of the park. It was estimated that only the first phase will require about 25 million USD. These funds were secured from the Indian government in the form of a loan. However, the government of Mozambique relies to a large extent on foreign aid to balance the national budget and there are no surplus funds to secure the sustainability of a project of such magnitude. This study firstly explored the economic rationale behind the establishment of a knowledgebased economy and the development of ICT. It then focused on science parks as institutions to secure the diffusion of technological innovation in Mozambique and also on empirical evidence from countries that have benefited greatly from investment in science park projects. The study also investigated the possibility to use a PPP-type of project to finance the science park in Mozambique and pointed out very important determinants for the successful implementation of PPP-projects. The study showed that the government of Mozambique is serious in its efforts to develop a knowledge-based economy although many projects are still in their 'infant' stages. It is strongly recommended that policy makers in Mozambique should study the outcomes of empirical research on various science parks projects in other developing countries. The study shows that Brazil seems to be successful in its use of a PPP for the country's science parks. Policy makers should also pay careful attention to other PPP-projects in Mozambique. Although they are mostly used for infrastructural projects, some failed, while others seem to be functioning efficiently and important lessons can be derived.

Texto completo da fonteThe global energy use must change, more than 80 % of the primary energy use is currently based on fossil fuels. To achieve a more sustainable development, a larger part of the energy consumption must be produced from renewable energy sources, such as solar energy. The purpose of this study is to exemplify practical, technical, economical and architectural factors and aspects that should be taken into consideration regarding solar cell integration in buildings. Through a case study, the Sankt Sigfrid area in Växjö was examined and bounded to four properties with possible solar cell installation as well as a possible solar cell park. Through theory, study visits, observations, solar study as well as technical and economical calculations, the solar cells' possible electricity production and potential savings were demonstrated. The integration proposals were compiled through the obtained theory and a survey based on how the design of building objects is affected by a solar cell installation. With today's generous government subsidies, there is a possibility of economic profitability regarding solar cell investments, which is reflected in the profit calculation of the result. The case study also demonstrates the complexity of solar cell installations as well as how various practical, technical, economical, architectural factors and aspects complicate the integrations onto buildings.

In recent years, the Smartphone keeps developing and innovating. With the increasing number of Smartphone users, the number of the application software downloaded by the users is increased accordingly. As a result, the Near Field Communication (NFC), which is a RFID-base wireless communication technology, is applied more widely. At present, the common NFC technologies include access control system, mobile payment, stored-value card, etc. To fulfill device connection, data authentication, service exchange, and other actions, it only requires users to put the Smartphone close to the reading devices. In the future, this light, thin and small handy device will take the place of the tools such as easy cards, credit cards, keys, etc. Thus, there is huge potential commercial opportunity of it. This study aims to take the NFC technology as the basic concept to build a mobile payment mechanism applicable for the theme park and develop an application to solve the queuing problem. After the payment completed, the related traveling or playing information will be sent to the users. Through the NFC technology, it will provide the users with a secure, quick and convenient data exchange mode. In this study, referred to the queuing problem will be applied in practical situations, the relevant literature, algorithms, or mathematical model do not involve the queuing.

Technology transfer is a well-known subject. However, most emphases have been paid to the critical factors as well as performance of technology transfer, instead of the models of technology acquisition. This study applies the technique of strategic grouping method to analyze the characteristics of information and electronic firms, which leads to the different ways of technology acquisition in Science-Based Industrial Park of Taiwan. In this thesis, four varibles,i.e., capital, the ratio of R&D to revenue, the relationship between recipients and suppliers, and the width of product line, are employed as the factors for the strategic group analysis. The results reveal several crucial points. Firms with wider product line develop more diverse ways of technology transfer. Firms with high rate of R&D investment intend to obtain technology by way of cooperative development or participating technology alliance. Those of lower R&D investment prefer technology licensing. Firms with large capital are more liable to develop technology by Joint-Venture. The subsidiaries of international business usually use the way of cooperative development to collaborate with local companies.

In globalized world, variety of industrial and science parks exist to enhance the country development based on own unique platform to impact on economic growth of the country. One of these parks is so–called the knowledge hub, which focuses on entrepreneurs’ development intensifying knowledge–based corporate competition. In order to make a decision on establishment of the knowledge hub to foster the industrial development with collaboration academic institutions and industries, it needs to define the best matched factors and criteria of the knowledge hub. Many factors influence on development and performance of the knowledge hub, however it is questionable, which factors have direct impact and which factors have indirect effects that become a key issue for entire knowledge based economy. Considering this question, the dissertation aims to evaluate the key factors of the knowledge hub. In this perspective, all relevant factors listed from the literature reviews and selected the most leading factors that could drive the knowledge hub, such as technology knowledge, knowledge spillover, learning environment, innovation performance, absorptive capacity and regional development. Then, five to six sub–factors selected from literature reviews related to each main factor, which could shape the knowledge hub. For an efficient outcome, this research compares Silicon Valley of the United States, Hsinchu Science Park of Taiwan and National Information Technology Park of Mongolia to determine the best matching factors of the knowledge hub in developed and developing countries in reality. Comparing peers is recognized methodology to underlie an effective and efficient gateway and useful insights for successful development of knowledge hub. The methodology of the dissertation divides into three parts: 1) Correlation analysis is to measure a linear relationship between main factors and sub–factors that used a single questionnaire; 2) Analytical hierarchy process (AHP), and 3) fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) to evaluate and define the determinant factors of knowledge hub that used one questionnaire for both methods. Fuzzy AHP has more accurate judgment than AHP analysis. A total of 101 respondents for correlation questionnaire and 99 experts responded to AHP and fuzzy AHP questionnaire from three countries. The result shows that innovation performance is the most important factor for knowledge hub by AHP method in both developed and developing countries. However, in accordance with the FAHP analysis, absorptive capacity and learning environment are the most important factor for developed countries and regional development for the developing country. Consequently, knowledge hub becomes a cost effective and intermediary platform for academicians and entrepreneurs in developing countries, if they focus on absorptive capacity and learning environment to maintain regional development in the long–term. The main contribution of this dissertation is an empirical investigation of key factors of knowledge hub comparing developed and developing countries.
