Resumo:

My master´s thesis is devoted to the life and work of Manuel Patricio García, singer, music educator and vocal pedagogist. I particularly focus on his physiological and anatomical knowledge of the vocal apparatus which was thanks to the use of the laryngoscopy mirror very precise. García´s descriptions and schemes of the processes that occur in the human body in the course of the singing represent strong evidence of the fact that he only needed the laryngoskopy mirror to make conclusions that have been confirmed by the use of special and sophisticated sophisticated investigative methods. Some relevant issues from his familly life have been included in this work.

Action, divertissement, c'est ce que propose a ses lecteurs la romanciere americaine patricia highsmith. Toutefois, sous couvert d'histoires policieres, elle traite du probleme de l'humain. L'humain, homme ou femme, homme et femme. Sur la scene de son texte, hommes et femmes se heurtent, s'affrontent, se dechirent, se tuent. Tandis que meles aux mots maux, masculin et feminin se fondent, se confondent, brouillent les pistes. Les pistes qui, si on les remonte en suivant les indices egrenes au fil des romans, menent au personnage central de l'oeuvre : la mere. Cet autre primordial, dont l'influence sourd entre les pages et rebondit de roman en roman, est au centre de la quete identitaire des heros. Des heros et non des heroines. L'auteur, en effet, a l'exception de edith (edith's diary) a choisi des personnages masculins pour dire le mal de vivre. Ces hommes sensibles, intelligents et attachants, deviennent des meurtriers. En donnant la mort, ils esperent se separer de celle qui leur a donne de vie. Dans une ultime tentative de reparation ils tentent d'etouffer de feminin qui, tout a la fois, les angoisse et les attire. Les personnages feminins existent, bien sur, chez highsmith. Ce sont pour la plupart des epouses aigries que l'auteur utilise, a des fins dramatiques, pour pousser l'homme au meurtre. La mort rode dans les romans de patricia highsmith. Quete et enquete se superposent, s'enchevetrent. L'ingeniosite de l'intrique rivalise avec l'anbiguite des personnages. Des hommes et des femmes fragiles, malheureux, a la recherche du bonheur. Des gens finalement bien ordinaires. Comme elle les aimait. .
Action, entertainment, this is what patricia highsmith, the american novelist is aming at in her books. She writes thrillers but behind this label lies something more crucial than mere entertainment : despair. The despair of human beings, men and women with their feminine and masculine tendencies. On the setting of her text, men and women argue, fight, wound each other and finally kill each other. Words unveil the fusion confusion of the characters' ambiguous emotions, blurring the tracks. If one traces the heroes' personal history, linking the clues scattered in the novels, one is led to the main character of patricia highsmith's work : the mother. That "primal other" whose influence springs from the page and reappears in each novel, is at the core of the characters' search for identity. Male and not female characters. Except edith (edith's diary), the author has elected male characters to convey the difficulty of living. Those sensitive, intelligent and engaging men become murderers. In killing they hope to free themselves from the mother, that "other" who gave them life. In a final attempt to recover their selves, they try to smother that feminine mark which all at once frightens and seduces them. For sure, female characters do exist in patricia highsmith's novels. Most of them are bitchy wives that the author uses for dramatic ends : to push men to murder. Death hovers in highsmith's novels : search and investigation entangle into an ultimate fade-in to emphasize, beyond the thrilling plot,. .

La zéolithe MCM-22 possède une structure très particulière avec trois systèmes poreux indépendants:des canaux sinusoïdaux étroits (4. 1×5. 1 Å), des supercages (ø 7. 1 Å, hauteur 18. 2 Å) accessibles par des ouvertures de (4. 0×5. 5 Å) et des coupes externes (ø 7. 1 Å, profondeur 7. 0 Å). Cette thèse avait pour objectif l’étude des propriétés catalytiques de la zéolithe HMCM-22 (Si/Al=14. 5) et de déterminer le rôle de chaque système poreux dans les réactions de transformation du méthylcyclohexane et du n-heptane à 350ºC. La participation catalytique de chaque système poreux a été déterminée en désactivant sélectivement les sites acides des supercages et en empoisonnant ceux des coupes externes. Les deux réactions se déroulent principalement dans les supercages. Les canaux sinusoïdaux présentent une faible activité due à d’importantes contraintes stériques. Les résultats ont révélé par ailleurs que les sites acides des coupes externes ne sont pas capables de catalyser la réaction du n-heptane, ce qui peut être attribué à une force acide plus faible et/ou à l’absence de l’effet de confinement dans les coupes externes. L’adsorption des différentes molécules a permit de déterminer le volume microporeux de chaque système. La zéolithe HMCM-22 présente un comportement intermédiaire entre la zéolithe USHY (pores larges) et la zéolithe HZSM-5 (pores intermédiaires) dans les deux réactions, cependant elle présente des activités par site acide plus proches de HZSM-5. La désalumination de la zéolite HMCM-22 par lavage acide élimine principalement les sites acides des coupes externes et des supercages alors que les sites acides des canaux sinusoïdaux ne sont pratiquement pas affectés
MCM-22 has a very peculiar pore structure with three independent pore systems: narrow sinusoidal channels (4. 1×5. 1 Å), large supercages (ø 7. 1 Å, height 18. 2 Å) accessible through (4. 0×5. 5 Å) openings and external cups (ø 7. 1 Å, depth 7. 0 Å). The aim of this thesis was to study the global catalytic properties and ascertain the catalytic role of each pore system of HMCM-22 zeolite (Si/Al=14. 5) on methylcyclohexane and n-heptane transformations at 350ºC. To this end, the participation of each pore system was established by selectively deactivating the supercages through coke deposition and poisoning the external cups acid sites. Supercages play the major catalytic role on both reactions. Sinusoidal channels present a very low activity due to high steric constraints. External cups acid sites are more active than those of supercages in methylcyclohexane transformation due to the absence of diffusion limitations. The results revealed that the external cups acid sites are not able to catalyze n-heptane reaction, which is ascribed to a lower acid strength and/or to the absence of confinement effect in the external cups. Adsorption of different molecules allowed the determination of the micropore volume of each pore system. An intermediate behavior of HMCM-22 between USHY (large pores) and HZSM-5 (intermediate pores) zeolites was observed on both reactions. The activities per acid site of HMCM-22 zeolite were closer to those of HZSM-5. Dealumination by acid leaching of the HMCM-22 zeolite removed mainly the acid sites located on the supercages and external cups, whereas those of the sinusoidal channels were almost not affected

O objetivo deste trabalho é ler a representação do espaço nos textos de Patrícia Zangaro. O espaço aparece como um conjunto de signos que constroem uma chave de sentido no campo literário. Patrícia Zangaro trabalha a questão do espaço junto com as idéias de fronteira, periferia e do outro como o sujeito que se pode olhar detrás da linha que separa os territórios de pertença, no lugar do deslocamento. Pensar em uma periferia é pensar em um centro que é seu oposto. Por outro lado, a leitura da representação do espaço abre outros sentidos nos tópicos do corpo, do dinheiro e da língua que aqui analisaremos. Esses temas possibilitam pensar nas relações de poder que são construídas entre os sujeitos que circulam por um espaço determinado
El objetivo del siguiente trabajo es realizar una lectura de la representación del espacio en los textos de Patricia Zangaro. El espacio se presenta como un conjunto de signos que construyen una clave de sentido dentro del campo literario. Patricia Zangaro trabaja la cuestión del espacio a partir de las ideas de frontera, de periferia y del otro como el sujeto que se vislumbra detrás de la línea que separa territorios de pertenencia, en el lugar del desplazamiento. Pensar en una periferia implica pensar en un centro que se propone como su espacio opuesto. Por otro lado, la lectura sobre la representación del espacio nos permite abrir otros sentidos en los tópicos del cuerpo, del dinero y de la lengua que aquí analizaremos. Estos temas hacen posible pensar en las relaciones de poder que se construyen entre los sujetos que se desplazan por un espacio determinado

Resumo:

This study examined how a group of first year technical college students ascertained the truthfulness of information retrieved from their college library’s catalogue. This study revealed a strong, passive dependence by first year students on those individuals and institutions perceived to be in positions of authority, who concurrently conferred not just truth, but beliefs, and understandings; while other students, displaying interface fuzziness, confused library information sources with those found on the internet. It is recommended that those instructing technical college students encourage greater levels of reflection and cognitive engagement with information selected for use by students.

The intent of this professional doctorate study was to clarify theory and develop knowledge that could benefit the researcher's workplace. It achieved two aims. The first was the useful knowledge gained by the insider-researcher about how to effect teacher learning in a reform context. The second was the improved understanding of the uniqueness of contextual conditions that affected teacher learning in one school. A case study of a single school site was the means of examining the problem of what issues confronted teachers in learning new knowledge mandated by curriculum reform, along with why those issues existed and how teachers dealt with them. A genealogical approach to the literature investigation determined where, why and how teacher learning should be effected in a learning community, in what reflected an "outside in" approach to the problem. However, the intent of the study was that this should be balanced by the "inside out" approach evident in the consideration of what teachers in a school had to say about the realities of teacher learning. Interviews with teachers considered good informants resulted in quality data that facilitated the construction of explanatory theory. A comparison of this theory constructed from data grounded in the realities of teachers' experiences with the theory derived from the literature constituted the final stage of clarifying the problem. Results from the study, therefore, represented both useful knowledge and understanding of the problem. These were of benefit to the specific school, while contributing to the professional efficacy of the researcher-insider, responsible for delivering curriculum reform that was dependent on teacher learning.

This thesis developed methods for personalised modelling of developmental milestones for children with disabilities. Using data containing 348 milestone measurements from a small sample of children with a diverse range of disabilities, methods were developed to create a comprehensive personalised developmental profile for each child. These profiles incorporate multiple developmental domains and are designed to be updated in real time so that parents can be provided with feedback as their child develops. The outputs of the methods developed in this thesis will be used to help inform decision-making and assist with personalised intervention planning at the Developing Foundation.

This thesis seeks to examine time in the secondary world fantasies of Patricia A. McKillip. Very little work has been done previously on McKillip, and none examines such a broad range of her works. Taking a strict definition of secondary world, I investigate McKillip’s fantasy books that fit within this parameter to see whether there is a unifying principal behind time, in all its forms, in her work. Although time has been examined in fantasies that are obviously about time, very little has been done in the style of Mark Currie or Paul Riceour, who examine time in books that contain time but do not seem to be about time. I investigate time in terms of an overall chronotope, and argue that this seems to be one of the past. I argue that McKillip’s works and other fantasy books like hers have a grammar of the past, and that everything in their works is influenced, to a degree, by this grammar. Thematically organised chapters examine sixteen of McKillip’s immersive fantasies. The thesis begins with an investigation of the overall chronotope of McKillip’s books and the influence this has on her works. It then examines “active time”: time which is used in an active way to undo and heal wrongs of the past. McKillip’s use of legends to add depth and age to her stories is explored. Her pastoral works, those with a nostalgic connection with nature, are examined. The sometimes counterpoint of the pastoral, cities, are then investigated and found to be places of influenced by time passing in the form of age and political era. Lastly, several of McKillip’s characters are examined to show how time has affected them and affected their interactions with those around them.

Resumo:

Postmodernism, with its interrogation of reality and the im/possibility of representation, presented a legitimation crisis for the documentary which would potentially signal the end. Gauging by the renewed interest in the documentary tradition (in theory and practice) it is obvious that postmodernism had the reverse effect on documentary, freeing a filmmaking practice that had become hopelessly trapped within its own representational contradictions. In response to the challenge postmodernism presented, documentary theorists and filmmakers cleared a new space for documentary, and in the process reconsidered the limitations of Western epistemology and the ideal of 'representing reality'. This new space is reflected in the renewed interest in a new and more self-reflexive documentary theory and practice from the early 1980's onward. This essay will examine the transition which the documentary tradition has undergone in light of the shift from modernity to postmodernity: the shift from Grierson's heavily didactic social documentary to cinema verite and direct cinema and, finally, to the self-reflexive postmodern documentary. A textual analysis of Patricia Gruben's Leylines (1993), a recent postmodern documentary, will allow me to demonstrate how the contemporary documentary deals with the postmodern questions of history, representation, authority, knowledge, and subjectivity. A presente dissertação busca apontar a presença e demonstrar a importância do mito de Penélope na obra Janela do Sonho, de Patrícia Bins, analisando-o comparativamente com o mito homônimo na Odisséia, de Homero. Outra meta é desnudar como se efetua a reatualização mítica por parte da autora a fim de criar seu universo textual. Para melhor situar o leitor, a primeira parte contempla agrupadamente a presença de outros mitos no romance, seguida de um capítulo onde os principais mitemas compositivos do mito de Penélope são analisados. Na última etapa, a face da escritora é enfocada, como resultado da busca identitária pela protagonista. Servem de pedras basilares para esta pesquisa os traçados teóricos de Gilbert Durand que resultam na mitodologia, e de Gérard Genette quanto aos níveis narrativos, auxiliados, em especial, pelas considerações de Mircea Eliade, Georges Balandier e Nizia Villaça.
Cette dissertation tente de démontrer, par sa présence notable, l’importance du mythe de Pénélope dans l’oeuvre Janela do Sonho, de Patricia Bins, à travers l’analyse comparative du mythe homonyme de l’Odyssée d’ Homère. Elle vise également à présenter comment s’effectue, à partir de l’auteur, la réactualization mythique et la création d’un univers textuel qui lui est propre. Afin de mieux situer notre lecteur, la première partie de notre dissertation présente, de manière regroupée, d’autres mythes retrouvés dans le roman, suivie d’un chapitre analysant les principaux mythèmes composant le mythe de Pénélope. Enfin, dans la dernière partie, nous abordons la figure de la femme en tant qu’écrivain, résultat d’une quête identitaire effectuée par la protagoniste. Comme cadre théorique, cette étude s’est inspirée principalement des concepts proposés d’abord par les théoriciens Gilbert Durand pour la mythodologie et Gérard Genette en relation aux niveaux narratifs, et aussi des considérations de Mircea Eliade, Georges Balandier et Nizia Villaça.

Aiming the contribution to the literary studies and to the incentive to search in collections, this study aims to the organization of the prototext of the work Jogo de fiar, by Patricia Bins, published by Editora Nova Fronteira, in 1983. The collection of the author is composed of a diverse number of documents. Among them, there are letters, interviews, photographs, personal objects and documents relating to her production. The collection has nine sets of work of Jogo de Fiar, that represent the time and the productive and creative activity of the work. With the assist of Critical Genetics, theory that studies the process of creating in works of art of various kinds, and of the documents that comprise the collection Patricia Bins, the tensive way of the work is searched to, through the deletions observed in such materials, is possible to support a proposal of organizing your prototext.
Visando à contribuição aos estudos literários e ao estímulo à pesquisa em acervos, o trabalho insere-se na linha de pesquisa Literatura, Memória e História, e tem por objetivo a organização do prototexto da obra Jogo de fiar, de Patricia Bins, publicada pela Editora Nova Fronteira, em 1983. O acervo da autora é composto por um diversificado número de documentos. Dentre eles, encontram-se cartas, entrevistas, fotografias, objetos pessoais e originais referentes à sua produção. O acervo dispõe de nove maços de trabalho de Jogo de fiar, que representam o tempo e a atividade produtiva e criativa da obra. Com o auxílio da Crítica Genética, teoria que estuda o processo de criação em obras de arte de natureza diversa, e dos documentos que compõem o acervo Patricia Bins, busca-se o caminho tensivo da obra para que, através das rasuras observadas em tais materiais, seja possível sustentar uma proposta de organização do seu prototexto.
