Military reproductive health policies affect large numbers of women. In 2006 servicewomen numbered nearly 350,000 and comprised 14.5% of active-duty forces and 17.4% of the reserve force. In addition, approximately 165,000 female dependents of active duty military personnel and 157,000 female dependents of reserve duty personnel are between the ages of 12 and 22 and are eligible for military health care services. Dependents of military personnel are eligible for military health care coverage until age 21, or up to the age of 23 if considered a full-time student.About 10% of active duty female servicemembers become pregnant each year. Pregnant servicewomen are considered non-deployable and are usually not assigned to overseas commands. Pregnant women in the Army, the service branch with the greatest number of women on active duty, can choose to remain on active duty, request temporary leave from service, or request separation from service. Separation options include either discharge, honorable or uncharacterized depending on rank, or transfer to individual ready reserve.

An analysis of writings on colonisation and slavery by 18th and 19th century Genevan writers reveals the existence in the City of Calvin of a discourse justifying European expansionism. According to it, " advanced" Europe had the right to show " backward" overseas peoples the path to civilisation. What is presented as a mission and a duty legitimises colonial domination and presupposes a hierarchy of " races". This vision of the world has had extensions right up to the present day.

In Vedanta v. Lungowe, the UK Supreme Court established that a UK-based parent company can owe a duty of care in negligence to third parties harmed by the conduct of an overseas subsidiary. The key issue is whether there is sufficient intervention on the part of the parent company, a position subsequently reaffirmed by the Supreme Court in Okpabi v. Shell. This article argues that a full understanding of Vedanta and related jurisprudence requires the consideration of the duties owed to parent companies by their directors. It first highlights that such a consideration is timely (section 2). Parent company directors face significant uncertainty over the appropriate management of multinational corporate groups (MCGs). While it is recognized that parent companies owe certain responsibilities for the adverse impacts of their overseas subsidiaries, Vedanta pushes in the opposite direction. In light of such uncertainty, this article then explores how parent company directors’ decision-making post- Vedanta might be affected by their duties to promote the success of the company, and to act with reasonable care, skill and diligence, under sections 172 and 174 of the UK Companies Act 2006 (section 3). The history of immigration is intrinsically related to the growth of Beijing Opera in Singapore. Since the turn of the century, as China's economy has continued to grow, a growing number of Chinese living abroad have started to seek out familiar Chinese voices and deepen their links to the nation. In The Tian Yun Beijing Opera Society aggressively welcomes new immigrants while also assuming the duty of youth development. The overseas Chinese young are now dealing with difficult cultural adaptation and identity crises as a result of postmodernism and the internet information age. The Tian Yun Beijing Opera Society is actively fostering a new generation of Beijing Opera enthusiasts by encouraging secondary school students to study the opera and establishing a youth acting clubs. This makes Beijing Opera an essential link in fostering the development of overseas Chinese cultural communities and strengthening ethnic group cohesion.

Abstract Faced with global liberalization and internationalization challenge .Ministry of Education Technique Duty Department for in accordance to this circumstance, “the internationalization, the enhancement international cooperation” will list as the technique duty education system development priorities characteristic Speaking of the business circles, has “the international view, foreign language ability” talented person''s demand is more earnest .Therefore, the technique duty system student besides the specialized skill study, in accordance to the future tidal current and the work place development, will have the good English ability is the inevitable trend. This research penetration literature review, proposes the research construction. Discusses the self-concept, the intrinsic motive and the study result relates. The real diagnosis result showed that, the technique duty system student to the English study English self-concept, the intrinsic motive is more intense, more has the remarkable positive influence to English study result. Moreover, the intrinsic motive in the self-concept and the study result, also has the remarkable intermediary effect. Not only regarding this the result, this research suggestion English pedagogue, ordinary day is the teaching restricted in the classroom preparing a lesson with earnestly in English knowledge transmission. How initiates the student to English study confidence, gives the affirmation, lets the student think English study is enjoys, the process is happy, interesting, has the significance, even raises the study English is one daily hobby, is the teaching counseling key project. Finally, this research regarding the following researcher, also suggested may from the integrity self-concept, the motive theory and the study result relates discusses continually. AbstractRecent court decisions in Australia and in overseas jurisdictions have made important progress in society’s acceptance of the significance of climate change in the long-term protection of the environment. The term ‘climate litigation’ is now generally used to refer to legal proceedings initiated to establish responsibility for a failure to prevent or reduce the rate of climate change and/or mitigate its negative consequences. Such legal proceedings are being initiated in courts, tribunals and other rule compliance monitoring bodies, operating around the world, at the domestic, regional, or global level. One decision, in the New South Wales Land and Environment Court on 26 August 2021, orders the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority to develop environmental quality objectives, guidelines and policies to ensure protection of the environment from climate change with regard to its duties under the Protection of the Environment Administration Act 1991. This decision is regarded as a landmark decision in New South Wales in that it orders a statutory authority to exercise its duty and legal responsibilities under the Protection of the Environment Administration Act with regard to the level of seriousness that climate change impacts have reached for the New South Wales environment. The case is also significant because the definition of “environment” under the Protection of the Environment Administration Act encapsulates a broad range of ecological elements, including the “soil”. In this context, this chapter argues that the decision is important for a number of reasons including: by interpretation “soil” is a component of the “environment” and it should be protected from climate change under the Protection of the Environment Administration Act; the way the decision is made provides a guiding framework which can used to examine existing environmental laws for protection of the soil environment against climate change; and it provides a guiding framework to prepare new soil legislation with the requisite procedures to develop environmental quality objectives, guidelines and policies to protect the soil environment from climate change. Having regard to these various aspects of the decision, they provide a guiding structure in which to assess the protection of the soil environment in New South Wales, but also a procedure which might be beneficial to other countries to assess the legal protection of the soil environment. The way soil is being used in Australia and around the world is directly contributing to global warming by releasing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Soil degradation from agricultural land use, vegetation clearing and urban and infrastructure projects and pollution of soil from industrial works require closer attention from legislative and policy structures. Therefore, it is appropriate that increasing attention must be placed on the protection of the soil environment through the adoption of legislative, policy and mitigation responses which prevent the use of soil in a manner that makes it a significant contributor to climate change.

The author recounts the day he reported for duty in the field hospital. Upon his arrival at Camp Bastion, the largest British overseas base since World War II, the author saw a wounded Gurkha being treated by orthopedic surgeons and scrub nurses. Orthopedic surgeons are plentiful in Bastion, presumably because of too many amputations. The attending anesthetist let the surgeons know periodically how hard he had to work to keep up with the fading Gurkha. The next morning, the patients had all been Afghans. The author describes the mayhem that morning, which he says soon became typical fare. Despite its predictability, he admits he never got used to this prebreakfast ritual, which speaks of the brutality of humanity at war with itself.

International travel is a common feature of employment, and organizations that send employees overseas owe them a legal and moral duty of care regardless of where in the world they work. Those that travel internationally for work are a diverse group comprising a range of professions, and as diverse as their backgrounds are the strategies for preparation and health risk management and reduction in relation to overseas assignments. The health and safety of this group of workers is therefore critically important for the employee, employer, and also for the success of the assignment. This chapter provides an overview of the factors to consider when preparing employees for international assignments including ensuring that they are fit and adequately prepared, and that appropriate procedures are in place to take care of them if they become ill or injured.

Abstract Guernsey is one of the leading international finance centres. Guernsey is independent from the United Kingdom (UK) in legislative and fiscal matters and is not part of the European Union (EU). It has a history of political stability and good governance and has enacted financial services legislation that is upto date, workable and in compliance with international standards. It is not on the OECD list of uncooperative tax havens. There is no capital, value added or inheritance tax in Guernsey, nor any stamp or document duty except in respect of Guernsey property and a half percent duty on authorized share capital up to a maximum of GBP 5,000. As of 1 January 2008, individuals pay income tax at the rate of 20%, with a new 0% corporation tax coming into force for both domestic and overseas companies.

Patton’s wound is slow to heal; during this time, however, Patton is promoted to colonel. Discharged from the hospital, Patton returns to duty as the war ends. He hopes for the Medal of Honor but is awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. With the war over, Patton spends the rest of his time overseas maintaining discipline, giving lectures on armored warfare and the future of tanks, and preparing for his return to the United States and his family. Patton prepares himself also for the fight to keep tanks in an independent Tank Corps as a vital weapons system for the US Army.

Print news was part of Canadians’ daily lives, with the printed word shaping perceptions of all events, and especially the war that raged overseas from 1914 to 1918. This chapter explores how the First World War was interpreted through the Canadian periodical press, both in English and French, in the cities and in rural areas. A sampling of periodicals around key debates and issues reveals the prewar warning from newspapers of the coming war; Canada’s duty to the allied war effort; the growing dissent for the increasingly unlimited war effort; how censorship was carried out and which stories were affected; the highlighting of key battles and casualties; and the role of Canadian journalists in reporting the war overseas. The chapter also explores how editors and journalists not only reported the war but also shaped messages for Canadians. ‘Although there is probably as much going on in the country as at any previous time,’ wrote the Toronto Globe in the summer of 1916, ‘nothing seems worth recording except the war … there is no news except war news.’

The World War was announced while Gandhi was on a boat crossing the English Channel. His mind was instantly made up about assisting the empire by raising an Ambulance Corps to nurse the wounded soldiers. To Gandhi, his decision was a matter of duty. The future of his country was also on his mind. He thus wrote to the Viceroy: ‘I recognize that, in the hour of its danger, we must give—as we have decided to give—ungrudging and unequivocal support to the Empire, of which we aspire, in the near future, to be partners in the same sense as the Dominions overseas.’ Tagore and Andrews were both unhappy and worried over Gandhi’s decision of recruiting Indians for the War.

This chapter describes Geoffroy of Villehardouin's horizon during the fifteen years he served as a garrison knight that was limited to the city of Troyes and its immediate vicinity. It also covers his purview as marshal from 1185 that extended across the entire county of Champagne with its thirty or more walled towns and fortified sites. During his seventeen years as marshal of Champagne, Geoffroy confronted a political landscape in flux after the long reign of Louis VII. The chapter highlights Geoffrey's knowledge of practical military affairs that were acquired through his years of garrison duty in Troyes and as marshal responsible for the defense of the county. Geoffroy and the other officials with him at Gisors took the cross to accompany Count Henry II of Champagne overseas in January 1188.

According to a survey by Goo Research (April 2011), the average Japanese person appears to have relied primarily on television news for gathering information in times of disaster, and as unlike a lot of overseas media, the public broadcaster NHK’s news broadcasts were defined as very calm and measured. This chapter focuses on the NHK coverage of the earthquake and nuclear crisis in March 2011 compared with private channels’ and specific websites’ coverage with regard to specific events. The aim is to enlighten the ways and the tools through which Japanese Public Television played a double role: on one side it became a primary source of information for hard news and played a “service” role for the population in need; on the other side and with special regard to the coverage of the nuclear crisis, the duty to inform was balanced by the duty to reassure the public and promote harmony so that NHK privileged government and corporate statements about the Fukushima situation. The authors corroborate their study through an analysis of NHK’s programming and private channels’ changing schedules and advertising during the recent disaster. This chapter provides a concrete example of the potential television role in disaster mitigation, taking into account both the positive and critical aspects.

Abstract The response of the British army in the eighteenth century to overseas campaigning was at first slow and uncertain. The operations in North America in the 1740s showed not much advance in technique from the isolated operations there in Queen Anne’s reign, and in the Caribbean little seems to have been learned since Elizabethan times. A certain confidence in planning and execution can be observed in the Seven Years War, but up until 1783 the experience of troops abroad was harsh and bitter, and the hazards, particularly of tropical disease, were appalling. In the years after the great reduction of the army after the Treaty of Utrecht no more than nine regiments of foot were stationed overseas. Of these four served in Minorca, three in Gibraltar, one in North America, and one in the West Indies. The Gibraltar garrison was from time to time reinforced above this figure if danger threatened from Spain. During these years the troops endured all the difficulties of long garrison duty: acute boredom relieved by alcohol and punctuated by the spectacle of savage military punishment, an inadequate monotonous diet, and ever-present danger, not from His Majesty’s enemies but from lethal epidemics. The regiments on Gibraltar were losing men through disease at the rate of 17 per cent a year during the 1740s.

Abstract Marginal oil field operators have been bedeviled by several challenges since its inception, among which are financial, technological, socio-political, ecological and environmental issues. The study examined how marginal oil field operating in Niger Delta region of Nigeria could integrate and incorporate environmental accounting for managing the environmental performance of their businesses efficiently. Using literature review and case study, the study revealed that at present, environmental accounting is gradually being implemented worldwide. It is the duty of companies to apply environmental accounting to the lives of individuals. The study summarizes some key points regarding environmental accounting, the introduction of environmental accounting in some countries around the world and demonstrates some challenges in our country's application of environmental accounting to provide some solutions to boost the application of environmental accounting to marginal oil field operators in Niger Delta. The study recommends that environmental accounting will enhance the operations of marginal oil field in Niger Delta region.

Abstract This paper describes the evolution of a family of modern four stroke high power density engines, the Ruston RK215 series, which has been developed to meet the specific needs of heavy duty rail traction application including the current EPA and UIC (European) emissions legislation. It discusses the extensive experience of Ruston in powering various locomotives including recent applications in overseas markets. The methodology adopted in the base engine design, to achieve high reliability and good component life is discussed with methods of validation and risk analysis during the design and development program. Specific reference is made to an emissions research program to ensure the engine will comply fully with future legislation.

Integration and scale up of utility facilities tend to use large bore pipes which are thinner than ever to reach an optimum design. The size range of pipe from 50” to 120” in diameter and ratio of diameter to thickness (D/t) ranges from 100 to 215 are chosen for the optimum design. These size ranges are outside the scope of conventional standards such as ASME piping codes and pipe fitting codes. They are treated in a limited manner in the design guide or manual such as provided by AWWA[1]. However these conventional codes shall be paid much attention when extrapolating the design methods beyond the limitation of conventional methods especially for large bore piping. Also as the detailed analysis methods assure reliable operation, the current design method by using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has been proposed. It is applied to deal with piping design for the large bore piping in recent overseas projects, such as for the layout of piping, stress concentration on pipe fittings, optimum saddle configurations, and special heavy duty anchor.

INTRODUCTION The rapid spread of COVID-19 has caused various problems and changes in our society. People are required to wear face masks when they go out and keep social distancing. There are temperature check points everywhere, and many countries are still restricting the immigration of foreigners to prevent entry of infected visitors. While those preventative measures are necessary, they are negatively affecting the Cambodian economy in various dimensions. The Cambodian economy heavily relies on tourism, garment, manufacturing and construction, which embed around 40 percent of paid employment and comprise 70 percent of the country’s GDP (World Bank, 2020). The tourism sector is one of the most severely affected industries as overseas tourists have stopped due to the border closure. Many restaurants and hotels have had to shut down, and surviving businesses are struggling to pay maintenance costs. However, the travel industry is now in gradual recovery. The Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of Cambodia reported that 1.44 million domestic tourists and 14,148 foreign tourists had travelled during the Khmer New Year Holiday (The Cambodia Daily, 2020), and the country is discussing the possibility to accept foreign tourists from the “travel bubble” with other ASEAN countries (The World Tourism Organization [UNWTO], 2020). The garment and manufacturing industries are other industries affected by COVID-19. The ILO states that 324 factories have had to suspend operations from 14 February to 9 June, which has affected 193,924 factory workers in Cambodia (International Labour Organization [ILO], 2020). The garment industry was originally expected to experience some downturn in 2020 due to the EU’s new sanction under “Everything but Arms (EBA)”, preferential duty free treatment. The COVID-19 crisis accelerated this downturn by disrupting global supply-chains and increasing factories’ costs to secure occupational safety and healthcare for employees.

The author examines the independence of an investigator as the driver of criminal proceedings, and does so in the context of the rights of a judge, a prosecutor and an investigator in charge of an investigation. The independence of the investigator is examined keeping in mind their rights and responsibilities, and the reflections begin with an overview of the investigator's historical rights and responsibilities, as well as the duty of the supervising prosecutor as the driver of criminal proceedings to oversee the actions of a particular investigator. The author analyses the recent amendments to the Criminal Procedure Law and focuses on finding more effective supervisory mechanisms of criminal proceedings, whilst keeping in mind the necessity for the driver of criminal proceedings to be independent in order to achieve the goals of this process. The assessment of this independence is done in relation to the simplified criminal proceedings. As a result of the questions examined within this article, the author suggests several options for improving the supervisory mechanisms of criminal proceedings in Latvia.
