A partir da década de 1960 teve início na Europa e nos EUA um novo movimento artístico conhecido como arte performativa. ORLAN, artista plástica francesa, insere-se neste movimento através de obras que incluem intervenções cirúrgicas em seu próprio corpo com o objetivo de questionar o status do corpo feminino na sociedade ocidental contemporânea. Diante disso, propomos no presente artigo, uma análise do seu trabalho a partir das considerações teóricas do filósofo e escritor transgênero Paul B. Preciado.Palavras-chave: Arte performativa; ORLAN; Gênero; Feminismo; Paul. B. Preciado.AbstractFrom the 1960s, a new artistic movement known as performative art began in Europe and the USA. ORLAN, a French artist, is part of this movement through works that include surgical interventions on her own body in order to question the status of the female body in contemporary Western society. Therefore, in this article, we propose an analysis of his work based on the theoretical considerations of the transgender philosopher and writer Paul B. Une lecture attentive de p. Mac orlan fondee sur la mise en relief de themes obsessionnels montre un certain nombre de constantes qui ne peuvent apparaitre lors d'une approche hative. Perception visuelle aigue, analyse et prescience etonnantes, multiples directions prises par une creation dont la contexture est faite de souvenirs et d'imagination: telles sont les grandes voies tracees par cet ecrivain aussi a l'aise dans la chanson que dans le roman, dans la poesie que dans l'essai. Dans cette oeuvre complexe se melent evidences positives et implications metaphysiques; l'omnipresence du mystere engendre la conscience d'une unite substantielle du reel, liant la vie a la vision et l'abstraction a la matiere sensible. Aussi est-il possible de la rattacher moins a une tradition romantique a laquelle le theme de l'aventure semblait la consacrer qu'a celle du baroque dont elle reprend l'essentiel. Par la peinture, la poesie, l'ecriture s'etablit la relation avec les modalites ontologiques par laquelle le fini et l'infini se cotoient: c'est le sens de l'aventure litteraire de mac orlan
An attentive reading of p. Mac orlan based on the development of obsessionnel themes reveals some features which can not become obvious with a hasty approach. A sharp visual perception, an amazing analysis and foreknowledge, numerous directions taken by a creation the substance of which is made of memories and imagination : these are the main ways laid out by this writer who is as brilliant in songs as in novels, in poems as in essays. In this complex work, the concrete always interferes with metaphysical implications; the omnipresence of mystery breeds the conscience of a substantial unity of reality, binding life to vision and abstraction to perceptible material. So, it is possible to connect this work with a baroque tradition from which it takes the essential matter. By the painting, the poetry and the writing, the relationship is established with the ontological modalities, and thanks to it, the finite and the infinite keep close : it is the meaning of mac orlan's litterary adventure

Pierre Mac Orlan does not arouse the exotic feeling based on distance, despite the diversity of cities and the plurality of geographical names figuring in his works. For him the picturesque resides within the familiar itself characterized by "fantastique social" exoticism depicts the inner adventures of his contemporaries conforming to an irrational unknown that exists in the souls of his characters as well as in the places where the actions take place. Esta tesis doctoral tiene como punto de partida el estudio del contexto histórico-político de la performance y el surgimiento de movimientos sociales como el feminismo. El marco teórico de esta tesis se nutre de una perspectiva feminista de la diferencia, como la propuesta por Beatriz Preciado desde el postmodernismo francés en su Testo yonqui, así como las de Julia Kristeva o Judith Butler. La hipótesis que nos proponemos demostrar en esta investigación es que Orlan es un paradigma de la performance feminista, por ello realizaremos un análisis de su obra, a través del cual descubriremos que su arte es una arte derivado del arte-carnal. Este tipo de arte estaba ya presente en el arte y en la literatura de Francis Bacon y Antonin Artaud sobretodo, y en Orlan se conforma, como aquí proponemos, en una estética del sacrificio, es decir, una estética en la que el artista se sacrifica por una nueva humanidad post-humana, una identidad híbrida, al igual que el Odiseo (analizado en La dialéctica de la Ilustración por Adorno y Horkheimer) se hace a sí mismo a través de un viaje interior. Una de las ideas clave de esta tesis doctoral es que el yo del artista, como el yo griego, se constituye a través del sacrificio y es así como se construye el sí-mismo a través del arte, recuperando la idea de sacrificio. Hemos estudiado también las políticas de minorías a partir de los postmodernos franceses (Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, etc.), para identificar los conceptos que se escenifican en la obra de Orlan. De este modo descubrimos que este tipo de arte performativo busca realizar en el cuerpo del artista un cambio político que surgiría de la estética y que podría crear un cambio social en el orden de los discursos, como si se tratara de un arte político de la resistencia actual. Creemos que lo mítico y el discurso en la obra de Orlan entran en un juego dialéctico en el que es difícil distinguir la realidad de la ficción, por su función de espectáculo teatral, ya que exagerando la realidad se descubre la realidad inherente del mundo o más bien, una realidad concreta enmascarada e inaprehensible, como es la multiciplidad nietzschiana o el horror del cuerpo mostrado por las múltiples transformaciones orlanianas en sus teatros anatómicos
This thesis sets out to study the historical and political context of performance art and the emergence of social movements such as feminism. The theoretical framework of this thesis is drawn from the feminist perspective of difference, as put forward in French Postmodernism by Beatriz Preciado in her ‘Testo Junkie’, as well as by Julia Kristeva and Judith Butler. The hypothesis we aim to demonstate in this research is that Orlan is a paradigm of feminist performance art. We shall make an analysis of her work, through which we will discover that her art is derived from carnal art. This type of art was already present in the art and literature of Francis Bacon and Antonin Artaud especially, and in Orlan's work it is apparent as an aesthetic of sacrifice, as proposed here. That is to say, an aesthetic in which the artist is sacrificed for the sake of a new post-human humanity, a hybrid identity, like that of Odysseus (discussed in Dialectic of Enlightenment by Adorno and Horkheimer) who becomes himself through an inner journey. One of the key ideas of this thesis is that the artist's ego, like the Greek ego, is achieved through sacrifice and this is how we construct the self through art, returning to the idea of sacrifice. We have also studied the politics of minorities, starting with the Postmodern French (Gilles Deleuze, Felix Guattari, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, etc.), so as to be able to identify the concepts that are staged in Orlan's work. We thus discover that this kind of performance art invokes a political shift within the body of the artist, arising from the aesthetic, and so creates social change in the order of discourse, as if it were a political art of resistance today. The mythical and the ideological come together in a dialectic game by way of the theatre. Behind one reality, another one is revealed, masked and elusive.

This research, of bibliographical matrix, understands the processes of reconfiguration of the statute of the body by means on the approach of the art with the technology, considering itself a new reflection on the aesthetic of the body deconstruction. For this reflexive proposal, the representations of art are approached contemporary carried through for women identified as position feminists, who explore and analyse the relations of the feminine body transformed into an art object, in which not natural elements are incorporated, such as prosthetics, manipulation of the image for computer softwares, among others media. It is distinguished, in this approach, the artistic trajectory of Orlan, whose workmanships here are analyzed from the understanding of the body as a result of social conflicts and place of questions regarding the speeches on sexuality, sort, subjectivity and identity.
Esta investigação, de cunho bibliográfico, compreende os processos de reconfiguração do estatuto do corpo por meio da aproximação da arte com a tecnologia, propondo-se uma reflexão sobre a nova estética da desconstrução corporal. Para esta proposta reflexiva, abordam-se as representações da arte contemporânea realizada por mulheres identificadas por posições feministas, que exploram e problematizam as relações do corpo feminino transformado em objeto pela arte, no qual são incorporados elementos não naturais, como próteses, manipulação da imagem por programas de computador, entre outros. Destaca-se, nessa abordagem, a trajetória artística de Orlan, cujas obras são aqui analisadas a partir da compreensão do corpo como consequência de conflitos sociais e lugar de questões a respeito dos discursos sobre sexualidade, gênero, subjetividade e identidade.

Mil e uma Orlans é uma tese que apresenta e discute as produções da artista, performer e criadora da Carnal Art, juntamente com o período que sensibilizou inúmeras noções de representação. Os trabalhos de Orlan vão da mudança de nome, de fisionomia e utilização de composições fotográficas à biotecnologia. Essa plurissemia, mixada, transvalora ícones artísticos e existenciais, ao mesmo tempo em que movimenta o uso de várias tecnologias. Eis a recente herança pós-moderna: a de promover potentes invenções desnaturalizantes, a partir dos rearranjos estético-éticos, propostos desde o grande turning point comportamental dos anos 1960, quando Orlan e outros questionadores rebeldes vieram a público produzir curtos-circuitos nas compreensões sobre o corpo, o gênero, a subjetividade e a arte contemporânea. A tese propõe demonstrar o contexto da artista, situar a época em que iniciou seus trabalhos e apontar algumas diferenças entre as suas criações e as de seus congêneres, artistas que, igualmente, foram tocados pelas transformações sensibilizadoras de um período, que ecoa até os nossos dias.

Perfection? - Recreating the Human is an exhibition of recent works of art by Orlan, Patricia Piccinini, Margi Geerlinks and Jake and Dinos Chapman. Each of the artists engages, in various ways, with issues relating to biotechnology and the body. The convergence of technology and the body arouses both utopian desires and dystopian nightmares; many of these desires and fears are prefigured in ancient myth and legend. The artists and artworks are therefore discussed with reference to reoccurring tropes from both ancient myth and science fiction.

Seismic analysis of an offshore platform requires an integral model combining all its elements: foundation, substructure, deck, modules, appurtenances, and even pipeline and riser tie-ins. With typical breakdown of project scope amongst several EPC contractors, the task of creating a seismic model and ensuring proper input, output and updates for EPC contractors’ design always rests with the operator’s engineering team. This model is complicated by the nature of dynamic soil-structure-interaction characterized by radiation of earthquake wave and energy to the far field. This radiation of energy is significant for short squatty gravity-base structures while most structural software lack this capability. This problem has been worked by the nuclear industry, but in this paper we summarize ExxonMobil practice for carrying this task in this scope breakdown environment. The need for this practice emerged during the engineering of Orlan (Sakhalin), was first used on the Adriatic LNG Terminal (Italy) and applied since on Berkut (Sakhalin) and Hebron (Canada).

Walker Evans (1903-1975) es una figura central de lo que se ha llamado el “estilo documental”, en especial por el papel que tuvo en el seno del proyecto emprendido por la Farm Security Administration durante los años treinta. Evans fue despedido de la FSA muy tempranamente, pero su trabajo constituye el núcleo del proyecto y la base del estilo documental norteamericano. A lo largo de esta comunicación indicaremos las fuentes europeas de las que este surgió, entre las que se encuentra la literatura y la fotografía del entorno de las vanguardias, en especial del surrealismo francés. Mostraremos cómo la fotografía de Evans surge en un medio totalmente europeo y bebe de dos fuentes completamente distintas: En primer lugar, está la literatura, especialmente la literatura francesa encarnada en dos figuras fundamentales: el poeta Baudelaire, del cual extraerá el espíritu propio del flâneur, y Flaubert, figura clave del realismo exacerbado. El método de Flaubert será incorporado por Evans de modo natural, como una prolongación involuntaria de su fracasada actividad literaria. Walker Evans estableció una estrecha relación con la literatura francesa de vanguardia a través de sus lecturas, primero, en la biblioteca universitaria del Williams College y, más tarde, durante sus tres años de trabajo en la New York Public Library. En estas instituciones leyó a Baudelaire, a Gide y al resto de los escritores franceses más innovadores. Esta relación se hizo más estrecha aún durante la larga estancia en París de la que disfrutó los años 1926-1927. Aunque la estancia en Francia no le reportó ningún beneficio a su casi inexistente prosa, su experiencia europea y el contacto con la vanguardia literaria que esta le procuró han de tenerse en cuenta a la hora de entender su desarrollo posterior como fotógrafo, hecho que la crítica norteamericana tiende a minusvalorar a la hora de analizar su obra, que prefiere entender como algo pura e intrínsecamente estadounidense. Pero, como veremos, Evans mismo desmiente este acercamiento a su trabajo. En 1927 regresa a los Estados Unidos, abandonando definitivamente la escritura. Cuando comienza a fotografiar, la atención a los objetos comunes y a lo ordinario presentes en la literatura de las vanguardias serán inmediatamente el origen de las listas de temas de su trabajo, centrado, en línea con Mac Orlan, Benjamin y el surrealismo, en “los desechos de lo cotidiano” y en los signos urbanos: la publicidad y las señales, los maniquíes… En segundo lugar, la fotografía, cuyos referentes más directos son Brady y, especialmente, el francés Atget, con cuya obra entabló contacto en ambientes muy influidos por el surrealismo. También asimiló estrategias de la fotografía constructivista soviética y alemana de vanguardia, especialmente en sus estudios de las potencialidades geométricas de las grandes estructuras arquitectónicas.

Review question / Objective: P: patients with risk factors of multiple organ failure I: balanced crystalloids C: normal saline O: mortality, in-hospital mortality, renal failure, length of ICU stay, length of hospital stay. Condition being studied: In clinical field, aggressive fluid resuscitation therapy is administered to prevent the progression of multiple organ failures by maintaining tissue and organ perfusion. Normal saline is frequently used, but it has been some concerns. Although large-scale studies with balanced crystalloids have been conducted, they couldn’t reach significant conclusions due to the diversity of disease severity. Therefore, we aims to evaluate and identify the best fluid for patients at high risk of multiple organ failure by comparing the effects of normal saline and balanced crystalloids.

Geologic Resources Inventory reports provide information and resources to help park managers make decisions for visitor safety, planning and protection of infrastructure, and preservation of natural and cultural resources. Information in GRI reports may also be useful for interpretation. This report synthesizes discussions from a scoping meeting held in 2006 and a follow-up conference call in 2020. Chapters of this report discuss the geologic heritage, geologic history, geologic features and processes, and geologic resource management issues of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Guidance for resource management and information about the previously completed GRI GIS data is also provided. A GRI poster (separate product) illustrates the GRI map data.

Review question / Objective: We compared cytomegalovirus (CMV) vaccination for solid organ transplantation recipients ( SOTs) with placebo treatment, to investigate the efficacy and safety for the prevention of CMV infection in SOTs. Condition being studied: Patients after solid organ transplantation subsequently become immunosuppressed, and cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common opportunistic pathogen to this population. The prevalence of CMV infection can reach 50% in the general population, and further up to 64-72% in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTs). CMV seropositive donors (CMV D+) puts even more pressure of CMV infection for SOTs. Post-transplant CMV infection can lead to neutropenia, lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia, tissue/end-organ invasive CMV disease (gastroenteritis, pneumonia, hepatitis, encephalitis), other infectious diseases, graft dysfunction, and multiple organ failure. CMV can disturb immune cell function, thus is one of the major risk factors that increase mortality within 6 months after transplantation. However, practical, effective method to prevent postoperative CMV infection for SOTs remains unresolved. Vaccination of CMV is only at clinical trials stage. To date, there is a lack of guidelines or consensus for preventing CMV disease for SOTs. Given the increasing clinical trials of CMV vaccination, it is important to clarify the evidence-based benefits and risks of CMV vaccination for SOTs, and to provide the best CMV disease prevention measurements.
