An investigation was carried out on incidence and pathology of fascioliasis in deer of Chittagong Zoo and some houses of Chittagong city during the period from January 2001 to June 2004. A total of 57 domesticated deer of various types were examined to diagnose the fascioliasis in Chittagong zoo and some house deer of Chittagong city. By faecal examination out of 44 cases 34 (77.3%) were positive for fascioliasis, of which, 15 (34.1%) cases were recorded in Chittra deer, 12 (27.3%) in Maya deer, 05 (11.4%) in Shambar deer and 02 (4.5%) in Nathrini deer. In post mortem examination, fascioliasis found in 13 (100%) cases, of which, 08 (61.5%) from Chittra deer and 05 (38.5%) from Maya deer. The overall incidence of fascioliasis in deer was 82.5%. In relation to sex the fasciolasis was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in female (82.6%) than male (71.4%) deer. The incidence of fascioliasis in various types of deer in relation to age was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in age group of above 2 years old than in age group below 2 years old. The gross examination revealed enlarged livers with round edges and thickened capsule with numerous haemorrhagic spots on the parietal surface (subacute form). In chronic form, the livers were cirrhotic and reduced in size. The affected intra-hepatic bile ducts were protruded and were engorged with flukes. Microscopically the migratory tracts were represented by the presence of haemorrhagic, oedema and infiltration with numerous eosinophils mixed with few lymphocytes. The wall of the bile ducts was thickened with fibrous tissue proliferation and the lining epithelium showed hyperplastic changes.

This study examined the effect of color on the naming process in children for pictures of increasing vocabulary difficulty levels. Picture-naming reaction times and accuracy rates were measured for both black and white line drawings and color drawings in 30 normally developing children, ages 4, 6, and 8 years, via a tachistoscopic viewing paradigm. Statistical analysis of reaction time data revealed that color affected speed of naming only when the vocabulary level of the picture was within the developmental range of the child. That is, for vocabulary within an emerging period for the child, colored drawings were named significantly faster than black and white line drawings. However, color did not significantly influence speed of naming for pictures either for vocabulary well established in the child’s lexicon or for vocabulary above the child’s developmental age. Statistical analysis of accuracy data revealed significant color by vocabulary interactions. Specifically, when the vocabulary level of the pictures exceeded chronological age level, children named color drawings with significantly higher accuracy rates than black and white line drawings.

This study offers a quantitative solution that automates the creation of a historical timeline starting with old drawings from the beginning of the 18th century and ending with present-day photographs of the Old City of Jerusalem. This is performed using GIScience approaches, computer vision, and deep learning. The motivation to select the Old City of Jerusalem is the substantial availability of old archival drawings and photographs, owing to the area’s significance throughout the years. This task is challenging, as drawings, old photographs, and new photographs exhibit distinct characteristics. Our method encompasses several key components for the analyses: a 2D location recommendation engine, which detects an approximate location in the image of 3D landmarks; 2D landmarks to 3D conversion; and 2D polygonal areas to 3D GIS polylines conversion. This is applied to the segmentation of built areas. To achieve more accurate results, Meta’s Segment Anything model was utilized, which eliminates the need for extensive data preparation, training, and validation, thus optimizing the process. Using such techniques enabled us to examine the landscape development throughout the last three centuries and gain deeper insights concerning the evolution of prominent landmarks and features such as built area over time.

In this qualitative exploratory study, 35 drawings of crawly things and their context from 18 pupils 7-8 years old were analysed. In addition, focus group interviews with 6 of the pupils about their drawings were conducted. The study shows that the students' personification of the small animals decreased considerably from drawing 1, which they drew before the science lesson, to drawing 2 which they drew after the lesson. The natural context of the drawings, on the other hand, increased after they had observed and examined the small crawlies in nature. In the interviews with the researcher did the students expressed processes and stories that were not contained in their drawings.

This study was conducted to determine the extent to which eight-year old children are aware of the dangers in several situations, including climbing a tree near an electric power line. Thirty-seven third-grade students were shown drawings of children engaged in ten activities. First, the students were asked what the children in the drawings were doing. Then, they were asked how the children in the drawings could get hurt. The results indicate 84% to 100% of the students appropriately identified activities depicted in the drawings, and 86% to 100% of the students identified significant dangers. In the power line situation 97% of the students identified the danger from electric shock.

This study addresses the influence of popular media on how young children perceive science and the work of scientists. Using an adapted version of the Draw-A-Scientist Test, 15 classes of fourth graders (9–10 years old) at three different schools in Singapore were sampled ( n = 266). The students’ drawings as well as their identification of three sources from which they obtained inspiration for their drawings were analyzed. Our results showed a strong relationship between students’ drawings of scientists and their reported sources of inspiration. The results suggest that popular media play a large role in shaping how young children view scientists.

Violence, which can be defined as any threat towards the physical and psychological integrity of a human being, can result in fear, anxiety and severe behavior problems on children, whether exposed or witnessed. In this study, it is planned to achieve children’s perception of violence expressed by drawing and obtaining data in this way. In this study, the type of violence children portray in their drawings, how they determine to portray characteristics who perpetrate violence and are exposed to it as well as how is applied are analyzed. To measure how children perceive the violence, they were asked to draw a picture describing the ones who use violence and the ones who are exposed to violence. The pictures, drawn by children who participated in the study, were examined from a semantic perspective and content analysis method was adopted on the pictures. The research was conducted in Samsun province in the middle socio-economic level, with total of 53 students, 27 girls and 26 boys between the ages of 9-11 who were randomly selected representing two schools. Drawings were examined according to the issues they portrayed and then, semantic and content analysis was applied. In the children’s drawings, it is shown that the violence of adults is reflected more. These findings indicate that child to child violence, domestic violence, war, adult to child violence, adults to animal violence and terrorism is portrayed respectively. Generally, males are portrayed in the drawings. Drawn illustrations show that children are aware of the growing violence in their environmental. Raising the children in nonviolent social environment seems important for their healthy development. We can say that drawing, which is a simple tool for exploring the children’s inner world, can be used by all professionals responsible for children education.

The study sought to examine the possible indirect trauma indica- tors among refugee children’s drawings. We have analyzed draw- ings of refugee children and non-refugee children as controls (5 - 9 years old). The content and Pickard’s expressive strategies for mood depiction were analyzed on 464 drawings. The content analysis revealed different content-specific categories across groups, with the category of Violence/War appearing significantly more in the drawings of the refugee group. and being used as one of the trauma indicators. The analysis revealed that negative mood was depicted by more complex and detailed drawings in both groups. An expressive strategy, namely the literal strategy, appeared to be specific to the refugee group only (e.g., absence of facial characteristics), while different patterns of non-literal ex- pressive strategies were observed in conveying mood between the two groups. Our findings suggest that the drawings can be used as a triage tool to assess the emotional status of refugee children.

Abstract: This study sought to understand where children like to play using arts-based methods. Participants were recruited from a large US medical clinic serving a predominantly Latinx and low-income urban area. While waiting to see the doctor for a well-child visit, 19 6- to 12-year-old children were given drawing materials and asked to draw the places where they like to play. We conducted a descriptive content analysis of identifiable elements in the drawings, followed by an interpretive analysis of locations, social relationships, and activities. Children's drawings predominantly depicted outdoor environments and physical activities. Few drawings depicted children playing with others.

This paper presents eight-year-old children's ‘eye views’ of the archaeological site of the Agora in Athens, Greece, based on drawings made during an educational programme on site. Complementing a significant body of research on drawings, we introduce a multimodal social semiotic perspective to explore drawings as ‘designed’ accounts of children’s ‘eye views’. We argue that each account arises as an agentive response to their interests and prompts in the environment framing their experience, such as features of the site and the educational programme. Based on four drawings, we identify salient elements of children’s experience in their representations which we analyze as material realizations of (i) their interests and agency, (ii) their visual and embodied engagement with the archaeological site, and (iii) the framing of the educational task and overall programme. Our findings contribute to research on the importance of visual in learning.

Introduction. Drawings may give an insight into the complex mental process, however they have been underutilized in patients with psychosis associated with epilepsy. Case report. A 33-year-old, right handed female, diagnosed with schizophrenia- like psychosis associated with epilepsy, was treated in the Day Unit due to psychosocial rehabilitation. Besides other treatments, the patient underwent group analysis of drawings once a week. Qualitative analysis of the form and content of drawings made by free associations were performed. The varying of size and motives with vivid colours and the curve of perspective were documentated in three figures, followed by the last drawing which was without such elements. Conclusion. A series of drawings of patients with psychosis associated with epilepsy is needed to record a possible variations and disturbance of the immediate mental process. Group sessions may additionally contribute to diminish stigma and enhance psychosocial reintegration.

Phonemic and visual similarity effects were investigated in Italian children of different ages. In Experiment 1, two groups of children (mean age 5;1 and 10;3 years) were asked to recall either pictures of common objects with phonemically similar or dissimilar names, or the spoken names of the pictures. Although a similarity effect was present in older children for both words and drawings, in younger children only a tendency in the expected direction occurred. The lack of a phonemic similarity effect for spoken words was attributed to the presence of a ceiling effect. In addition, results showed a significant superior recall for words in younger children and for drawings in older ones. An additional group of 5-year-old children was tested, increasing the list length to four items. Results indicated a significant similarity effect for words but not for drawings, together with a superior recall for words. These findings, in agreement with previous results, suggest that phonological memory traces contribute to performance of younger children only when material to be recalled is in the auditory modality, whereas in older children phonological coding is independent in the input modality. In Experiment 2 the performance of 5-and 10-year-old children was compared for immediate recall of two different sets of visually similar and dissimilar drawings. Results showed a significant effect of visual similarity in younger children only, for both sets of drawings, extending previously obtained results (e.g. Hitch, Halliday, Schaaftal, & Scrhaagen, 1988) to different materials and to Italian subjects. In Experiment 3, the visual similarity effect was investigated with a delayed recall procedure in a 5-year-old group. Four delay intervals (0, 5, 10, 15 seconds) and two activities during delay (articulatory suppression and a tapping task) were considered. Results obtained indicated that the visual similarity effect is present at all delay intervals for both activities during delay; and are discussed in terms of alternative interpretations of the visual similarity effect.

Research objective: To recognize the symbolism of drawings of the Ukrainian children who experienced the situation of war and necessity of emigrating from their mother country and to compare them with the content of drawings made by Polish children at the same time, that it is in the first months following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine; The research problem and methods: What symbols can be identified in the drawings made by children of both nationalities and what their meaning is in the context of the war in Ukraine? The study applied the method of drawing and interview; Th e process of argumentation: Reconstruction of the symbolic meanings of drawings in the cultural context in the conditions of the military conflict in Ukraine; Research results: It was possible to identify symbols of idiosyncratic character in the drawings of the Ukrainian children, that are connected with the outbreak of the war in this country (e.g., destroyed houses, missiles, rockets). In the drawings of the children of both nationalities, it was also possible to recognize symbols of neutral meaning, which – however – in the case of the Ukrainian children’s drawings made reference to the situation of war (e.g. an umbrella as protection against missiles). Interpretation of the drawings was carried out according to one schema, taking into account separate cultural contexts (Polish and Ukrainian), as well as the child’s individual experience, which was demonstrated using a drawing by a 12-year-old Ukrainian girl; Conclusions, innovations, and recommendations: A drawing can off er an alternative method of learning about and making an attempt to understand a child, especially one who has found himself/herself in a difficult situation in life.

Introduction. War veterans with chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have poorer family and parenting functioning, but little research has focused on these impairments. Case re-port. This paper presented how the series of drawings and the group art therapy process enhanced bridging the psychological barriers of a 33-year-old male PTSD war veteran to engagement with the child. After two years of deployment he returned home and suffered mostly from PTSD numbness and avoidance symptoms. The veteran had the family readjustment difficulties and felt guilty for being detached from his 3-year-old son. He under-went integrative treatment in the Day Unit Program. The drawings series were made by free associations. Clinical observations and group discussions were recorded in the group art therapy protocols. The presented patient got gratifications and support from the group members for his illustration of popular cartoon heroes, and decided to draw Mickey Mouse at home. On the next session he shared his satisfaction for bridging the gap between him and his son, having done the same drawings with his son at home. Beck's depression inventory (BDI) was used for self-rating of depression and a reduction of BDI score from 18 to 6 during the treatment course was recorded. Conclusions. Series of drawings illustrated shift from war related past toward current family life of the war veteran. Group art therapy gave him gratification and support with hope and a sense of belonging, thus facilitated his parenting readjustment.

A didelphys uterus also known as a “double uterus” is one of the least common Mullerian duct anomalies. Uterine didelphys is a congenital malformation that result from complete failure of fusion of the ipsilateral Mullerian duct during embryonic development. Ideally, diagnosis should be made before pregnancy and labour to prevent adverse outcomes. Here reporting a case who was a 19 years old, 4thgravida, Para: 0+3 (Spontaneous abortion) referred to Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital (BBMH) USTC, Chittagong at 35 weeks of pregnancy with severe abdominal pain by local physician from Raozan, Chittagong. On vaginal examination a longitudinal vaginal septum and two vagina were found. Uterine Didelphys was confirmed during emergency caesarean section and delivered 1.5 kg male baby with APGAR score 7/10 and was referred to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Post operative recovery of the mother was uneventful. The baby was also discharged at the age of seven days with establishment of breast feeding. To avoid delayed diagnosis and associated adverse outcome clinicians should have high index of suspicion of uterine anomaly when assessing cases of dysfunctional labour. Old Russian graffiti are an important resource of the spiritual, political and daily lives of medieval society. These images were studied for a long time. Graffiti could be divided into two groups–inscriptions and drawings, were traced on surfaces of artefacts and architectural surfaces. Much attention was paid to epigraphy when drawings were researched in a contest of inscriptions. However various images there is more to narrative than stylistic features. This equates to raising a question about the need to study artistic graffiti by methods of Art History. This could further expand ideas about the spiritual component of the daily life of medieval people, and will also provide an opportunity to trace the reflection of images of high art in daily life.

The present study examined drawings on 5 tasks of 45 dyslexic and 45 nondyslexic children aged 6–9 years old. Children who show low performance in written language and phonological awareness are also expected to get low scores on drawing tasks which require similar skills such as comprehension of difference, coordination of parts in an organized whole, spatial movement, classification or distinction of figures. The present hypotheses were constructed accordingly. Analysis showed that the drawings of the dyslexic participants presented inadequate planning, difficulties in the depiction of contrast, size-scaling and canonicality, lack of details, and stereotypic depiction.

In recent years, a good deal of attention has been paid to the place of typology in late medieval art. This way of thought so characteristic of the Middle Ages, in which Old Testament persons and events are seen to have a prefigurative relationship to those of the New, was a popular teaching device. It is nowhere better seen than in the Biblia pauperum or picture Bible, which originated in a mid-thirteenth-century Dominican milieu and was probably inspired by the altar piece of Nicholas of Verdun, made in 1181. The pages of these books contain drawings that show the typological relationship between Old and New Testament events by means of a center roundel depicting some episode of Christ's life, known as the anti-type, flanked by two Old Testament scenes, the types, which were thought to prefigure it. Appropriate Bible prophecies in banners heightened the visual impact of the drawings for the literate. From its inception, the Biblia pauperum was of enormous importance for northern European art, and its influence can be seen well into the Reformation.

Physical Education is one of the subjects that arouses the most interest in children. The aim of this study is to find out the opinion that primary school students have about the Physical Education class. Drawings from a sample of 62 students from an educational centre in the city of Jaén, aged between six and eight years old, were analysed. The results show that the larger size of the drawings corresponds to the aspects that are to be emphasised. This subject is carried out regularly in the sports pavilion of the centre, making frequent use of materials such as sticks, hoops or balls. Cheerful colours are used, reflecting their enthusiasm for the subject. The smiling facial expression represents the schoolchildren’s interest in the subject. The most popular games or sports are basketball and pichi, both of them collective.

The progressive complexity of mental representation is the basis for changes in human cognitive development. Evaluation of its external manifestations as graphic representation in drawings could be an instrument to understand changes in cognitive development and representational complexity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the appearance and role of the indicators used by children to represent moving figures in their drawings. This allows us to know the continuum from its non-manifestation to full expression through the vectorial interrelationships of the graphic indicators in each of the ages studied. Participants were n = 240 children from 5 to 8 years old; their drawings of two moving figures were analyzed, applying the polar coordinate technique. Results show a map of interrelations among the graphical movement indicators and changes in the drawing elements in an increasing continuum of complexity and the roles conferred to figures sketched. The conclusion is that changes evaluated in drawings can interactively reflect mental representation, and they could promote its transformation. The applied transfer of the results to education is discussed, in order to optimize the representational complexity and cognitive development.

A number of studies examining the interaction of children with animals have shown the benefits of animals on the physical, mental, emotional and social development of children. Especially thanks to pets, children can learn a great many things like love of nature and animals, in addition to developing a sense of responsibility and loyalty and building good relationships. This study aimed to put forward the concept of “pets” as perceived by children aged between four and eight. The study group used in this research consisted of kindergarten and 1st - 2nd grade primary school children (n = 94) from Bursa Province (Turkey) over the 2014-2015 school year. Semi-structured interview questions and the children’s drawings of “pet themed” pictures were employed as data collection tools. A document review of the collected data was conducted and analyzed using content analysis techniques. According to the results obtained, while a large number of the children knew the concept of “pets”, they had different ideas about the characteristics of pets, as was revealed in their drawings. Moreover, regarding the perception of pets, there appeared to be a difference between children who had pets and those who did not. Keywords: early childhood, child, pets, perception.

This research was carried out in connection with “The Finnish-Russian Country School Project”. The aim is to compare Finnish and Russian pupils’ values in their drawings of the landscape (n=946) they want to conserve, and to pay attention to the animals they draw. The pupils were 7–15 years old. The landscapes were classified by the variables (country, age, sex), and analysed according to landscape type. The most prevailing landscape was nature (82%). The existence of animals was few in species; but there were more animals in the Russian drawings. The most frequently drawn groups were the“wave birds” and mammals. The Russians often presented the forest animals whereas the Finns drew the domestic species. With increasing age, the frequency of the animals decreased clearly in the Russian landscapes. A similar age distribution was not seen in the Finnish drawings. In conclusion, the animals were well placed in their ecological environment, indicating children’s good understanding of the natural habitat they were drawing.

This study intends to study primary schools’ children’s graphic schemata drawings developments using Golomb’s representational theory. The graphic schemata drawing of 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12-year-old children was examined based on the stimulus given to them. Children’s drawing responses were observed in terms of representational activity marks such as line, shape and colour. The subjects were 384 from primary schools. Stimulus materials consisting of a theme “A Garden with Trees, Flowers and Insects” were given to the children to complete their drawings. The statistical analysis uses frequencies, percentages, and chi-square measurement to analyse the drawings of the children. The analysis indicates that the three key aspects of Golomb’s representation have similarities and differences based on each group of young children’s age. The findings revealed that Golomb’s representational theory were significant to the primary schools’ children’s age group. Hence, it can be concluded children’s creative and intellectual development is positively impacted.

Children’s drawings have been analysed in research for several decades, frequently using a narrative style. This article introduces an innovative methodological tool to analyse young children’s drawings. Taking a social semiotics perspective, the aim of this tool is not to replace narrative analysis but to complement it. The study was conducted with three 4-year-old children who were encouraged to draw freely at home and at school. The discussion begins by examining how the form of the drawing, that is, the type and quantity of the modes children used, was analysed; this is followed by an analysis of the content, that is, the type and quantity of the themes, the children drew. Consequently, a data cross-grid was developed, where a total of 223 drawings were plotted across three separate data cross-grids – one for each child. Once all the drawings were plotted, the three grids provided a different way of looking and interpreting the drawings. While noting the limitations of the study, it is concluded that the data cross-grids provide an instantaneous graphical impression of each child’s preferred semiotic (modes) and configuration (themes) styles, which reflect each child’s unique personality and identity as a drawer. Ultimately, such a tool could be used by practitioners and researchers to understand the children’s preferred ways of drawing. It can also be adapted and modified to analyse other modes children use such as playing, drawing, and movement.

Background: Childhood dental fear and anxiety are prevalent from an early age through adolescence, posing a significant challenge in pediatric dental care. Understanding children's emotions during dental procedures is crucial for pediatric dentists to anticipate and address behavioral responses in future visits. Utilizing drawings and questionnaires can effectively gauge an individual's self-concept, anxiety, attitude, or conflicts. Aim: This study aimed to assess children's drawings and questionnaires as means to measure dental anxiety related to dental treatment. Methodology: Forty children aged 6-9 years participated in this study. During the initial therapeutic session, all participants underwent pulp therapy and restorative treatment with local anesthesia administration. Objective assessment of distress during treatment was conducted using the Sound, Eye, Motor (SEM), and Frankl Scales. Subsequently, children were provided with a predetermined set of questions before the treatment, and their responses were recorded. Following the interview, children were asked to draw a picture of their surroundings. Pediatric dentists and psychologists scored the children's drawings using the Child Drawing: Hospital (CD: H) scale. The findings were compared with Frankl and SEM Scores. Results: A statistically significant association was observed between Frankl score and SEM Score (p<0.001*). A strong positive correlation was found between CD:H Scores Examiner 1 and CD:H Scores Examiner 2 (p<0.001*; r=0.760). Conclusion: Assessing dental anxiety through children's drawings, which reflect their inner feelings, offers an alternative to self-report techniques for pediatric dentists. Drawing, being both easier and enjoyable, emerges as a valuable tool for measuring children’s levels of dental anxiety.
