The population in the world is increasing at a phenomenal rate, the care for elders has become a big issue for the government and society. In a latest survey it is found that the elders who wanted to sprout in their own house has increased to the rate more than 85%. The main issue is on how to reach elder’s need and mitigate burden for their children. The services of nurses could reach 3.3 trillion yuan in the year 2020, so the need for the elderly nursing will increase to a great extend for national economy. Hence the need for robotization for elderly nursing will become trend in future. Research shows that the robots can be designed in various ways with a path towards the wellbeing as main function. Therefore, it is admissible for nursing researchers to develop nursing care robots for the betterment of society and enter a postmodern era and science and practise.

OBJECTIVE: To develop nursing diagnosis statements for the elderly based on the Activities of Living Model and on the International Classification for Nursing Practice. METHOD: Descriptive and exploratory study, put in practice in two stages: 1) collection of terms and concepts that are considered clinically and culturally relevant for nursing care delivered to the elderly, in order to develop a database of terms and 2) development of nursing diagnosis statements for the elderly in primary health care, based on the guidelines of the International Council of Nurses and on the database of terms for nursing practice involving the elderly. RESULTS: 414 terms were identified and submitted to the content validation process, with the participation of ten nursing experts, which resulted in 263 validated terms. These terms were submitted to cross mapping with the terms of the International Classification for Nursing Practice, resulting in the identification of 115 listed terms and 148 non-listed terms, which constituted the database of terms, from which 127 nursing diagnosis statements were prepared and classified into factors that affect the performance of the elderly's activities of living - 69 into biological factors, 19 into psychological, 31 into sociocultural, five into environmental, and three into political-economic factors. CONCLUSIONS: After clinical validation, these statements can serve as a guide for nursing consultations with elderly patients, without ignoring clinical experience, critical thinking and decision-making.

All developed countries have been facing the trend of aging population and view it as an importance social policy which has to plan care and nurse senior citizens. The elderly caring and nursing organizations are obligated to provide more comfortable and suitable environment for a high quality life of elders. Based upon Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory, there is a hierarchy of five needs within each individual, including physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love Needs, self-esteem needs and self-actualization needs. Individuals would acquire emotional support, materiality and service through social network. This study investigates two main issues related to network relationship of elderly nursing home. First, this study demonstrates the network relationship between elderly nursing home and other related groups, including family and friends of elderly resident, exclusive volunteers, neighborhood community centre, religion groups and other welfare associations. Second, this study investigates what the network relationships would influence the satisfaction of five elderly residents’ needs. To better understanding the real connection among groups related to nursing home, this study uses case study with the perceptions of social network to know the network relationship in the nursing home and what it influences their residents’ needs.

Currently, the number of empty-nest elders in China is rapidly increasing, and their overall health situation is not optimistic. The Chinese government has developed a series of policies to promote the community medical-nursing combined model to meet the health and pension care needs of elderly individuals. The demand for community medical-nursing combined services among empty-nest elders plays a decisive role in providing these services and must be fully recognized before these services are offered. However, only a few quantitative studies have focused on the demand for community medical-nursing combined services, and these studies failed to capture the complexity and dynamic nature of this demand. To address this research gap, this study innovatively conducted a descriptive and qualitative study to explore the demand for these services. Following the principle of data saturation, 14 empty-nest elders from communities in Wuhan, Hubei Province, were recruited using the purposive sampling method. Semistructured interviews were used to collect qualitative data. The inductive content analysis approach was used to analyze the data. The results revealed that Chinese empty-nesters’ demand for community medical-nursing combined services was diverse and specific and comprised three themes (basic elderly care services, medical and nursing services, and psychospiritual support services), with fifteen subthemes. This study provides insights into the unique demand and implementation strategies for community medical-nursing services among empty-nest elders in China. Recommendations to enhance the intelligent elderly care system, infrastructure construction, and elderly care talent in the future provision of services for this particular group of people are provided.

With the increasingly serious aging trend in China, the incidence of some chronic diseasesrelated to it is also increasing. In this regard, the demands of elderly care gradually show a trend of diversified development, and the requirements of nursing quality become more and more strict. In China, most nursing personnel training is accomplished through colleges and universities, many of which come from the nursing profession. However, there is no division of nursing disciplinesfor elderly patients at present, and the corresponding training plan, content and target for elderly care are not specific. Next, we focus on the implementation strategy of training elderly nursing talents based on the needs of elderly care.

Introduction: The promotion of autonomy, through the use of nursing interventions that promote physical, cognitive and social integration skills, are added competencies of nurses specialized in rehabilitation nursing, so it is important to realize whether these professionals invest in this area in their practices. Objectives: To identify and compare the perception of nurses who are specialists in rehabilitation nursing and nurses who are specialists in other specialty areas. Methodology: A descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional, quantitative study with non-probabilistic snowball sampling. For data collection, the Self-Assessment Scale of Elderly Autonomy was used between September and October 2020. Results: The sample consists of 151 specialist nurses, 72 specialists in rehabilitation nursing, and 79 specialists in other specialty areas. All specialist nurses promote the autonomy of the elderly with less visibility in the development of interventions for instrumental activities of daily living. It is perceived that the nurse specialist in rehabilitation nursing promotes more autonomy of the elderly on a broader scale (p <0.05), with a more significant difference concerning the development of physical and cognitive interventions (<0.001). Conclusion: All specialist nurses perceive that they promote the elderly's autonomy but have weaknesses in interventions that promote instrumental activities of daily living. The specialist nurses in rehabilitation nursing realize that they promote more autonomy for the elderly, probably due to the implementation of rehabilitation programs aimed at this promotion.

Depression is the most common psychiatric disorder among the elderly: it is present in 23-40% of community-dwelling elderly and in 25-80% of institutionalized elderly. Depressive symptoms are most prevalent in elderly women because they more readily seek healthcare services, are more vulnerable to stress and live longer than men. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of depression and its comorbidities in a long-stay nursing home (NH). METHODS: This retrospective, descriptive, epidemiological study was performed at a NH in southern Brazil and comprised the first part of a larger project to determine depression and its relationship with psychosocial factors in NH residents. Sociodemographic and medical data were obtained through the examination of medical files from November 2012 to January 2013. Depression was defined as the diagnosis reported by physicians in medical files and scores on the Geriatric Depression Scale (15-item version) above 5. Other clinical and psychiatric diagnoses were obtained from medical files. RESULTS: Out of a total of 142 elderly women, 51.4% had at least one psychiatric disorder, the most common being depression, affective bipolar disorder and mental retardation. Almost one third (32.3%) of the elderly women were depressed. The ward containing the highest number of cognitively and physically independent women contained 41.3% of the total depressed elderly. A total of 52.1% of all depressed elderly had other associated clinical or psychiatric disorders, with mental retardation and hypothyroidism being the most frequent. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of dementia was high in this NH. Further studies evaluating the psychosocial factors involved in depressed elders should be conducted in an effort to prevent depression and promote mental health in institutionalized elders.

At present, the problem of an aging population in China is severe. The integration of existing healthcare services with elderly care services is inefficient and cannot meet the needs of the elderly. As such, China urgently needs the concerted efforts of various social forces to cope with the increasingly serious problem of aging. In accordance with Andersen’s behavioral model, a survey was conducted in Tangshan City among seniors 60 years of age and older. Using logistic regression models, decision tree models, and random forest models, we examined the factors impacting senior people’s desire to choose the integrated medical care and nursing care model. The results of the three models displayed that the elderly’s propensity to choose the combined medical care and nursing care model is significantly influenced by the amount of insurance, life care needs, and healthcare needs. Moreover, the study found that the willingness of the elderly in Tangshan to improve the combined medical and nursing care service system is low. The government should appeal to the community to participate in multiple developments to improve the integrated medical and nursing service system.

Essays were gathered from fifty-three elderly nursing home residents about the strongest meaning in their lives. These elderly nursing home residents most often reported the category of family relationships as central, followed by pleasure and then health. A chi-square analysis showed a significant difference between the type of meaning of the elderly nursing home residents and those of younger adults. An additional chi-square analysis found no significant difference between the nursing home residents and a group of golden anniversary couples' meanings. Finally, our results indicate that elderly nursing home residents do not report an absence of meaning in their lives.

With the ageing population all over the world, long-term care services, such as nursing care, are essential to provide care and treatments to elderly patients in the community. During the nursing care services, elderly patients who live in the nursing homes require to be treated and consulted in a number of healthcare organisations, for example hospitals, mental health centres and rehabilitation centres. Currently, the data management for the elderly is relatively centralised to establish their own electronic medical records and protected health information without decision support functionalities. The community and healthcare industry are eager to develop a safe and comprehensive system to provide adequate healthcare services and monitoring to the elderly. In this study, an internet of healthcare things (IoHT)-based care link system (IoHT-CLS) is proposed, which provides a structured framework on integrating IoHT and artificial intelligence (AI) to generate a one-stop solution for managing elderly’s healthcare facilities. The elderly can be effectively linked into the integrated IoHT system by using various sensing and data collection technologies. The collected data are further processed by means of the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system and case-based reasoning to provide the functionalities of risk management and customised elderly service programmes for the elderly care institutions. Consequently, this study contributes to the healthcare management through the enhancement of service quality in the community.

Background and objective: Dietary habits and patterns have been shown to have strong influence on the mental wellbeing of elderly. Aim of the study: to compare the current nutritional status and independence in instrumental activities of daily life (IADL) in the elderly living in nursing homes and community dwellings. Methods: The study was carried out in nursing homes and elderly clubs in Cairo using descriptive comparative design. It involved a group of 125 institutionalized elderly from six nursing homes in Cairo and a second group (community dwellers) of 250 elderly from social clubs or elderly daycare centers in Cairo. The data collection tools were an interview questionnaire including the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), the IADL, and the 24-hour recall for dietary intake in addition to an inventory checklist for the nursing homes. The data collection lasted from October 2016 to December 2017.Results: The institutionalized elderly had significantly higher median age, more divorced /widows, from urban areas, with higher education, and more insufficient income; they were more obese (p = .02). In MNA 62.0% of those in community dwellings were normal compared to only 17.6% of institutionalized (p < .001), but significantly more institutionalized elders had deficient caloric intake (80.0%) compared to 69.6% of those in community dwellings (p = .03). The IADL were significantly better among those in community dwellings. In multivariate analysis, having recreations was a positive predictor of MNA score, while smoking and institutionalization were negative predictors. As for the IADL score, the level of education was its positive predictor, whereas age and institutionalization were negative predictors. Body mass index (BMI) was positively predicted by female gender, educational level, and having recreations, and negatively predicted by age. For institutionalized elderly, income was a positive predictor of the MNA score, whereas the length of institutionalization was a negative predictor. Conclusion and recommendations: Malnutrition and dependency in IADL are more prevalent among elderly in nursing homes, and are related to the duration and characteristics of the institutionalization. The study recommends improving the dietary services in nursing homes, with training programs for their staff and regular monitoring of food services.

Cases of COVID-19, the coronavirus that has spread throughout the world, affect and kill the poor, racial minorities, and the elderly disproportionately. The toll to the elders of our society is extreme and does not seem to relent over time. This work examines the statistics of the cases and deaths at the early onset of the disease in nursing homes. It reveals the age disparities seen in the COVID-19 pandemic by using data from nursing homes across the states, and particularly in Maryland, as a source to illustrate the effect on the elderly living in group-like settings. It presents an overview of the disease in the early months as it ravaged across the states, indicating that the older generation was a lot more at risk than the general population. It is necessary to illustrate these disparities even as the numbers of infections and deaths are not static.
