Texto completo da fonteThis thesis spells out specifically a developed tradition of polychrome in the art and the society Muslim Medieval, and tries to improve such concepts extensively. It should be mentioned that the recent improvements made in Islamic sensitivities for color over the recent centuries that separate us from the older period of time (the eighth to fifteenth century) that radiates the Islamic art is beyond this research. As a matter of fact in this study, our goal is to present the concept of color during the eighth to fifteenth century, explaining the meaning and the use of color during that time which correspond its true concept. Since the achievement of the harmony of colors depends on physical processes and appropriate techniques, we will try to demonstrate the practical application and objective of Islamic art and color at those centuries based on visual evidences that were obtained during our research, thus painting is considered as the raw material of our study. These centuries can present all the aesthetic elements of interest especially in painting (miniatures) because among the various arts, painting is the area where the colorist expressed with more freedom. From Baghdad to Tabriz, from Tabriz to Herat and from Herat to Shiraz and Isfahan, the Islamic miniature has produced the most beautiful pages of the history. In addition, color as an element in Islamic culture including poetry, mysticism, regulations and the religious holy book is studied to fully characterize the role of color in other Abrahamic religions

Texto completo da fonteThe object of this thesis is chancellor of the University of Paris, Jean Gerson's (1363-1429) De examinatione doctrinarum (On the examination of doctrines), a treatise on discernment. The first volume of the thesis contains the history of this incomplete yet stylistically modified text, its critical edition established from eight manuscripts and its translation. The second volume is a commentary of this texte. The meaning of this one is constructed with attention to the groups to which it was destined, the Carthusians and Celestines who profusely read mystics such as Brigit of Sweden and Catherine of Siena. Gerson intended to call these readers to prudence. Using saint Paul's ecclesiology and relying partially on Gerson's analysis, the conclusion proposes to understand mystical and spiritual literature as linked to the charism of prophecy which, to “edify” the Church, must be “interpreted” by theologians

Texto completo da fonteA jewel of Middle-English mystical prose, the Cloud-author's writings are relevant to our knowledge of fourteenth-century literature and spirituality, and still more generally to our knowledge of the human vocation in the Universe and its achievement. From Augustine Baker to John Chapman and William Meninger, his works, which he wrote sometime between 1345 and 1386, gave rise to a variety of written commentaries inside the monasteries. As an inspirational source, it also suggested remarkable and noted works of art to a number of contemporary artists, such as painter Erica Grimm-Vance and composer John Luther Adams. Running parallel to the direct tradition which began in the religious houses, an indirect tradition was thus constitued, which busied itself with transmitting the spiritual heritage of the Cloud-author by making it available to the audience of the museum and the concert-hall. By comparaing the works of his direct and indirect heirs with the original texts, this study will draw the permanent features of the transmitted teaching, with a view to its optimal implementation for our time
Gruber, Monique. "Henri Suso ou la recherche d'un chemin mystique à l'aide du texte et de l'image". Thesis, Metz, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008METZ020L.
Texto completo da fonteOf the three Rhenish mystics, Suso is the only one that accompanied his texts with suggestive pictures, often the reflection of his mental images, of his visions. In the first part, after studying his life and works, we have attempted to give a summary of his illustrated writings ; even though one manuscript only was supervised by him, the artists after him worked on his advice. We have also tried to describe the civilization of images surrounding him and, above all, how, therefrom, he managed to pass his teachings, giving himself as an example and, with images, tracing the mystic way for the nuns he was in charge of. In the second part, we have shown "images driving out images": after scrutinizing a manuscript of the 14th century, we have conducted a work of comparison between the different Exemplars known. But these images driven out by other images in the end, lead to their disappearing, and in the third part, we have shown the process of rejection, as Suso saw it, through detachment - on Entbildung, leading to Uberbildung, i.e transformation into the Deity : the mystic union, a prelude to the beatific vision

Texto completo da fonteAl-hakim al-tirmidi (abu abd allah muhammad ibn ali, m. 318 930), a muslim mystical writer of the third century of the hegira is presented in the first part of this study in the historical and geographical background of the hurasan of his time. This introduction also includes a study of the author's life and the complete bibliography of his works, with the data of the libraries where the manuscripts are to be found. In this first part, we can also find the arabic text of "the depth of everything" established from two manuscripts, and its translation. The second part deals with tirmidi's spiritual experience based upon mutual love between god and man and his description of the ways of divine election. The third part presents the connection between a spiritual anthropology much developed by the writer and the access to the knowledge of spiritual realities. The fourth part deals with the way man accompishes his spiritual life through his psychological attitudes, the use wich he makes of language, and his religious practice. The fifth part deals with the question of the transmission of some pythagorician and neoplatonician themes to some hurasanian muslim spiritual groups through judaism and chistianity (particularly origenism). Finally, 140 pages of appendices contain translations of some tirmidi's complete texts, those of some islamic traditions and those of texts by other writers having dealt with the same subjects. .
Johnson, Hannah Victoria. ""Sed uiros non diligit" : a Discourse of ‘Lesbian' Desire in the Devotional Writings of Hildegard von Bingen and Mechthild von Magdeburg (12th-13th century)". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Sorbonne université, 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024SORUL132.
Texto completo da fonteThe increasing interest in queer medieval studies makes manifest the academic and popular inclinations to recognise the validity and necessity of reading and understanding ‘queer' desires in the medieval past. In this thesis, I ask if there is some aspect of the medieval source material which is revelatory of experiences at once completely anchored in the historical context and legible as ‘lesbian' from a modern perspective. Specifically, this project will be interested in interrogating whether we can legitimately interpret expressions of desire in texts written by medieval women as a discourse of ‘lesbian' eroticism. As such, I take Hildegard von Bingen's (1098-1179) Symphonia armonie celestium revelationum (Symphony of the Harmony of Celestial Revelations) and Mechthild von Magdeburg's (c. 1208-1282) Ein vliessendes lieht der gotheit (The Flowing Light of the Godhead) as my primary corpus. Hildegard is already frequently viewed as a ‘lesbian' figure in the popular cultural imaginary, while Mechthild is overwhelmingly preoccupied with the pursuit and embrace of minne (‘Lady Love', f.), the feminine manifestation of the divine. Using an interdisciplinary approach in cognitive linguistics and queer theory, I examine the textual articulation of embodiment, orientation, and eroticism both within the nexus of each individual text and as part of a larger literary network. The aim is to bring queer theory - which has created and is still creating a lexicon for analysing lesbian eroticism - into dialogue with the historical and cultural context of the Middle Ages, through an in-depth analysis of the language employed and the linguistic forms created by these mystics, using the analytic frameworks of cognitive linguistics and sensory linguistics. Without denying the spiritual nature of Hildegard and Mechthild's mystical experiences, this project will explore the discourse of erotic feelings in the high Middle Ages. The aim is to observe the creation of such a discourse within a mystical discourse whose primary goal is to speak the unspeakable, make visible the invisible. In effecting lexico-semantic analyses of Hildegard and Mechthild's texts, I argue that the lexical and metaphorical networks employed by the mystics reveal devotional discourse as a place where we might find implicit expressions of medieval ‘lesbian' desire within the sociocultural framework of the twelfth and thirteenth century

Texto completo da fonteThe work consists of a preface, an introductory section on the science of the letters, a second section on the symbolism and a third section with the translation of the texts. In the first section is a comparative passage between the modern science of phonetics and the conceptual perception of the sounds, that inserted the science of the letters in the setting of esoterism and the sacred knowledge. The section of the symbolism opens up on the commentary to the introductory poems of every letter that Ibn Arabî wrote in the chapter 2 of his main work : The Futûhâts al-makkiyya. The explanations finish with tables of synthesis for every letter based on the confrontation with two other chapters of the Futûhâts : the chapter 60 and the chapter 198, that are summarized in the second part of this section. The third section inclure the translation of the Kitâb al-alif or Book of the Alif, on the symbolism of the first letter of the Arabian alphabet ; the chapter 60 of the Futûhâts, on the production of the universal world conceived in his hierarchized concatenation of ontological level and cosmological world and one choice of the sections of the chapter 198 concerning the letters. The work ends with an index of the Arabian terms and a bibliography
Daouadi, Belkacem. "Le trésor des secrets et des idées fécondes du Qâḏi Azmûr al-Shahîr bi, Al-S̱anhâjî (m. En 795/1392) : édition, traduction en français et commentaire de "Kanz al-asrâr wa lawâqiẖ al-afkâr"". Lyon 3, 2006. https://scd-resnum.univ-lyon3.fr/out/theses/2006_out_daouadi_b.pdf.
Texto completo da fonteThis thesis is constituted with the edition, the French translation and the historic, thematic and linguistic commentaries of qâdî d'Azemmour al-Sanhâjî‘s text, entitled Kanz al-asrâr wa lawâqih al-afkâr (Treasure of secrets and fertile ideas). It provides a discovery of this nearly completely unknown author in Arabic world as in orientalist spheres. He has nevertheless a distinguished personality, thanks to his wide culture, his ability to organise learnings and to the originality of his smart and high thought. It gives also the opportunity to extend the knowledge in the Middle-Age encyclopedia's field because it can be defined as an invisible world's encyclopedia. Finally, this research permits a better understanding of how traditional dates (prophetic traditions, narrations, and scientific information) are transmitted in Maghreb during this period. It also points the importance of other representative texts, as the Makkî's Tafsîr, which is barely studied
