With its conceptual origins in marketing, design, and education, co-creation also has analogues in the fields of science and museology. Reviewing its development in these different disciplines highlights some common challenges (e.g., power relations) and benefits (e.g., joint knowledge production, critical thinking, and shared investment). Aligning this overview with conceptual models such as Arnstein’s ladder of citizen participation and Bakhtin’s carnival theory we aim to further inform the development of co-creation broadly within science communication.

Our multidisciplinary team developed a new set of discharge instructions for five common emergency department diagnoses using recommended tools for creating literacy-appropriate and patient-centered education materials. We found that the recommended tools for document creation were essential in constructing the new instructions. However, while the tools were necessary, they were not sufficient. This paper describes the insights gained and lessons learned in this document creation process.

Many elderly trauma patients have isolated orthopedic injuries compounded by chronic medical conditions. We organized a trauma unit, led by trauma surgeons, that is designed to expedite the care of geriatric patients through a multidisciplinary approach. The development of G-60, our Geriatric Trauma Unit, began with discussion between trauma surgeons and hospital administration. Dialogue between trauma surgeons and emergency department physicians yielded triaging, disposition, and admission criteria. Orthopedic surgeons helped implement a goal of operative management in 48 hours. Internal medicine assisted in optimizing chronic disease and providing preoperative clearance with involvement of cardiology and anesthesiology. Meetings were held among surgeons, physical therapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, pharmacists, social workers, case managers, internists, a geriatrician, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. A unit in the hospital was chosen, and a paging system was implemented. Six months lapsed from inception to fulfillment. The multidisciplinary team has achieved several improvements in this population. Through a multidisciplinary approach, a geriatric trauma unit was created that expedites triage, optimizes chronic illness to facilitate definitive management, and provides safe discharge.

Based on archival documents introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, the process of postwar restoration of Stalingrad is discussed. During the Battle of Stalingrad, which became one of the key battles of the Second World War, Stalingrad suffered colossal destruction: not a single one of the 126 enterprises survived, while 48 factories were razed to the ground; the civilian population of the city was reduced to 1515 people. Already in December 1942 - January 1943, the city and oblast authorities decided to begin restoration. Although the fighting in the city was still ongoing, on April 4, 1943, a resolution of the State Defense Committee (GKO) was adopted On Priority Measures to Restore the Economy of Stalingrad and Stalingrad Oblast. The process of developing an urban planning concept and searching for an architectural and artistic solution was rather difficult. The best creative forces of the Soviet Union took part in this work: A.V. Shchusev, B.M. Iofan, K.S. Alabyan, E.V. Vuchetich, and others. The final project for the development of the center of Stalingrad was prepared by a group of the Academy of Architecture under the leadership of Alabyan in 1946; however, after the adoption in 1955 of the resolution of the CPSU Central Committee On the Elimination of Excesses in Design and Construction, this project was not implemented in full. An important milestone in the formation of the modern appearance of Stalingrad (Volgograd) was the construction of the memorial ensemble to the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad on Mamayev Kurgan in 1959−1967 according to the design and under the direct supervision of the sculptor E.V. Vuchetich and engineer N.V. Nikitin.

One of the leading trends in healthcare is the reorganization of the majority of hospitals by merging them into large multidisciplinary hospitals. Recently, new powerful multidisciplinary hospitals have been established in various regions of Ukraine. This model has already proven itself from various positive sides.Aim. Analysis, evaluation, discussion of experiences and nuances of formation of a new capable network and creation of large competitive multidisciplinary clinical centers with the beginning of the second stage of medical reform.Research materials and methods. A retrospective analysis of the experience of merging the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital and the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Perinatal Center was conducted.Research results. The article describes the main steps of the reorganization of two large multi- faceted medical centers and the creation of a new institution – «Regional Medical Center of Family Health» DOR», which in terms of size and range of medical services became the second children’s hospital in Ukraine.Conclusions. The creation and development of large competitive multidisciplinary clinical centers with the beginning of the second stage of medical reform in the form of the creation of a multidisciplinary hospital is the most expedient, which is confi rmed by the economic performance of the institution during the reorganization process and after its completion.

Abstract Background One key aspect of a learning health system (LHS) is utilizing data generated during care delivery to inform clinical care. However, institutional guidelines that utilize observational data are rare and require months to create, making current processes impractical for more urgent scenarios such as those posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. There exists a need to rapidly analyze institutional data to drive guideline creation where evidence from randomized control trials are unavailable. Objectives This article provides a background on the current state of observational data generation in institutional guideline creation and details our institution's experience in creating a novel workflow to (1) demonstrate the value of such a workflow, (2) demonstrate a real-world example, and (3) discuss difficulties encountered and future directions. Methods Utilizing a multidisciplinary team of database specialists, clinicians, and informaticists, we created a workflow for identifying and translating a clinical need into a queryable format in our clinical data warehouse, creating data summaries and feeding this information back into clinical guideline creation. Results Clinical questions posed by the hospital medicine division were answered in a rapid time frame and informed creation of institutional guidelines for the care of patients with COVID-19. The cost of setting up a workflow, answering the questions, and producing data summaries required around 300 hours of effort and $300,000 USD. Conclusion A key component of an LHS is the ability to learn from data generated during care delivery. There are rare examples in the literature and we demonstrate one such example along with proposed thoughts of ideal multidisciplinary team formation and deployment.

The practice of creating interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary research centers in Russia is caused by the need to implement interdisciplinary projects in accordance with the objectives of the Strategy of scientific and technological development and priority directions of science development in the Russian Federation. However, the development of complex research within a single institution faces a number of problems related to the management of the multidisciplinary center, the system of evaluation of research efficiency in separate divisions of the center, funding of individual research areas, creation of a comfortable psychologicalclimate that promotes the performance and effective completion of interdisciplinary projects, creation of an effective stimulation system, aimed not only at increasing the publication activity of researchers, but also to produce world-class results that require in-depth, focused work. The problems of creating an effective management system focused on ensuring maximum creative freedom of a scientist and reducing bureaucratic pressure on a researcher and creating a comfortable psychological climate in an interdisciplinary research center depend mainly on the head of the organization and his management apparatus. The development of scientometric system of comparative rating of the effectiveness of scientific teams within separated units, the creation of a differentiated system of motivation of scientists, aimed not only at increasing the publication activity, but also to obtain breakthrough scientific results requires the involvement of a serious scientific approach, despite the fact that scientometric research is not among the prestigious and attractive scientific directions, but at the same time it causes a high critical reaction from officials and scientists of all scientific fields.
