Resumo: Este é um estudo que examina a noção de Alteridade em filmes cubanos e brasileiros da década de 90. A análise é feita nos filmes cubanos Fresa e Chocolate (1994) e Guantanamera (1995), assim como nos brasileiros Central do Brasil (1998) e Terra Estrangeira (1996). A pesquisa foi desenvolvida mediante uma indagação documental com metodologia qualitativa, com a elaboração e análise de um sistema de categorias e variáveis a partir da triangulação metodológica, teórica e disciplinar de diversos conteúdos vindos da filosofia, dos estudos culturais e da semiótica com referências a autores como Hal Foster, Merleau Ponty, Lévinas, Rancière e Greimas que permitem ratificar as complexidades envolvidas no cinema contemporâneo. Foram analisados os personagens dos filmes selecionados como sujeitos de Alteridade pertencentes a grupos da realidade multicultural contemporânea conforme critérios socioculturais. Alem disso, foram examinadas as narrativas de ditas obras a partir da noção de Alteridade entendida fenomenologicamente como aptidão de intersubjetividade, e disposição inata para estar no mundo, fazendo entender o cinema como rede intrincada de relações. Ainda, se inclui o roteiro do curta-metragem Tuya para sempre que foi elaborado pelo autor da pesquisa aplicando os procedimentos de análise resultantes desta
Resumen: Este es un estudio que examina la noción de Alteridade en películas cubanas y brasileñas de la década de 1990. Se analisan las películas cubanas Fresa y Chocolate (1994) y Guantanamera (1995), así como en Central de Brasil (1998) y Tierra Extranjera (1996), producidas en Brasil. La investigación se desarolla mediante una indagación documental con metodología cualitativa a partir la elaboración y análisis de un sistema de categorías y variables, con de la triangulación metodológica, teórica y disciplinar de diversos contenidos provenientes de la filosofía, los estudios culturales y la semiótica con referencias de autores como Hal Foster, Merleau Ponty, Lévinas, Ranciere y Greimas, todo lo cual permite ratificar las complejidades envueltas en el cine contemporáneo. Se analizan los personajes de las películas seleccionadas como sujetos de Alteridade pertenecientes a grupos de la realidad multicultural contemporánea conforme criterios socioculturais. Así mismo, fueron examinadas las narrativas de dichas obras desde la noción de Alteridade entendida fenomenologicamente como aptitud de intersubjetividade, e disposición innata para estar en el mundo, lo que permite entender el cine como red enmarañada de relaciones. Aún, se incluye el guión del cortometraje "Tuya para siempre" el cual fue elaborado por el autor con la aplicación de los procedimientos de análisis que han resultado de esta investigación

Texto completo da fonteENGLISH ABSTRACT: The terminology used in segregationist discourse that South Africa is a combination of 'first world' and 'third world' elements has been appropriated from an international discourse about problems of world-wide socio-economic development. The terms are used to describe the sophisticated metropolitan areas inhabited by highly developed whites and simple, backward, isolated, rural regions occupied by undeveloped or underdeveloped blacks. However, in South Africa this dual world metaphor, which has socio-political implications that have brought great misfortune to blacks, was institutionalised by apartheid, with the consequences that blacks have expressed their resistance in what became known as the 'struggle' against the dualist system. Selected South African and African films whose themes have a bearing on such a socio-economic system are explored in this thesis. A supplementary exploration of films dealing with the theme of the 'struggle', which has become a metaphor for the 'generations of resistance', has been undertaken by means ofa detailed analysis. The interpretation of 'development' in this thesis finds a link betweeen the dualist paradigm, the perpetuation of poverty and the migratory labour system. The peculiar relationship which the 'struggle' has had with the cultures of black people, in which there is a mutual influence between the 'struggle' and the nature of these cultures, is explored in the relevant films. However, this thesis offers no solutions, but exposes a VICIOUS system which IS threatening to gain world ascendency.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die terminologie gebruik in die segregasie-diskoers tot die effek dat Suid-Afrika 'n kombinasie van 'Eerste Wêreld' en 'Derde Wêreld' elemente is, is oorgeneem uit 'n internasionale diskoers wat handeloor wêreld-wye sosio-ekonomiese ontwikkeling. Dié terme word gebruik om die gesofistikeerde metropolitaanse areas bewoon deur hoogsontwikkelde blankes en eenvoudige, agterlike, geïsoleerde, landelike streke beset deur onder- of on-ontwikkelde swartes te beskryf. Maar in Suid-Afrika is hierdie dubbelwêreld metafoor - met die sosio-politiese implikasies daarvan wat tot groot ellende vir swartes aanleiding gegee het - deur Apartheid geïnstitusionaliseer, met die gevolg dat swartes hul weerstand uitgedruk het in wat bekend geword het as die 'struggle' teen dierdie dualistiese sisteem. 'n Keur van films uit Suid-Afrika en die res van Afrika, die tema's waarvan betrekking het op hierdie sosio-ekonomiese sisteem, word ondersoek in hierdie skripsie.
