Resumo:

This research aims to identify and analysis: (1) The effects of mother's role in education, the value of children in families and financial literacy, (2) The effects of mother's role in education, (3) The effects of value of children in family, (4) The effects of financial literation, toward child expectation, (5) The role of working mothers is higher than the role not working mather in children's education, (6) The value of children’s working mother is higher than not working, (7) the financial literacy working mother is higher than not working. The results of this research shows that: (1) The mother's role in education, the value of children in families and financial literacy influences positive significant, (2) The mother's role in education influences positive significant, (3) The value of children in families influences positive significant, (4) The financial literacy influences positive significant, toward child expectation, (5) The role of working mothers is higher than the role not working mather in children's education, (6) the value of children’s working mother is higher than not working mother, (7) the financial literacy working mother is higher than not working mother. Based on the results, it is suggested that mothers should improve their role in education of child. Then, Mothers, it is expected to develop their valuation about the importance of presence of child in family to help them realize a true meaning about being responsibility. Mothers should start to make a child savings for education and start to invest financial plan for long term.

Resumo:

Breast milk is the best food that can help the process of growth and development of the baby. Early breastfeeding initiation is the beginning of the success of exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with early initiation of breastfeeding (IMD) in mothers who visit Posyandu in the working area of the Mogang Samosir Health Center, Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach and was conducted in the work area of the Mogang Health Center, Samosir Regency, from November 2022-July 2023. The informants in this study were 10 informants consisting of 5 mothers who had just given birth and were breastfeeding and 5 health workers (midwives, nurses). Research instrument with interview guidelines. The results of the IMD study are the first way that is done to babies half an hour after birth by placing the baby on the mother's chest to make direct contact with the mother's skin and looking for the mother's nipple to get the first milk that comes out of the mother's nipple. The benefits of IMD are that the baby can interact directly with the mother, builds closeness between the baby and the mother, and gets the first milk from the mother, which becomes the baby's immunity. How to do IMD is a baby who has been born placed on the mother's chest and taught to look for the mother's nipple. The mother's attitude in carrying out IMD has a positive impact, and the mother is happy and happy when the baby succeeds in getting to the mother's nipple and can breastfeed directly. The response regarding IMD is an action that is useful and positively received by the mother because it has good benefits for the baby and the mother. Family support for mothers in carrying out IMD means that the family supports the mother in the success of the baby to initiate early breastfeeding and helps the mother in fulfilling the need to increase milk production.

Introduction: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is any abnormal carbohydrate intolerance that begins or is ﬁrst recognized during pregnancy. The presence of GDM has important implications for both the baby and the mother. Objective: This study explored life experience of pregnant woman with GDM in maternal role attainment. Methods: This was a phenomenological approach qualitative research. Participants were 12 mothers who gave birth to a maximum of 1 year with a history of GDM selected by purposive sampling technique with sampling criteria. Data analysis used the Colaizzi method (2011). Results: There were eight categories, e.g. the experience of the mother in GDM diagnosis; the influence GDM of the pregnancy; mother's experience in trying hard to keep her pregnancy; a variation of life experience of mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and post-delivery; the perception of mother of her role being a mother, the factors that support the development and achievement of the maternal role attainment; the mother's experience in integrating the identity of her role as mother; gap and the desire of the mother with GDM in receiving health services. Life experience of GDM mothers in achieving maternal role attainment has a diversity. Discussion: Pregnant mothers with GDM experience various maternal role attainments. They cannot attain the role optimally.

Resumo:

Mother-child interaction for children with special needs is one of the keys to a positive parenting process . This study aimed to analyze the influence of social support and mother's acceptance on mother-child interaction in families with children with special needs. This research used a quantitative approach and an explanatory study design. The research location is the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabodetabek) area, with the study population were mothers with ABK aged 4-20 years. The sampling technique used non-probability sampling through convenience sampling. The total number of mothers as respondents in the study were 80 mothers. The results showed that the mother's social support was in the moderate category with an average index value of 64.61; maternal acceptance was in the high category with an average index value of 83.25; and the mother-child interaction was in the moderate category with an index average value of 71.3. The results of the correlation test showed that social support was significantly positively related to maternal acceptance and mother-child interaction. In addition, maternal acceptance has a significant positive relationship with mother-child interaction. The regression model shows that the mother-child interaction is significantly positively influenced by maternal acceptance.

Resumo:

Postpartum or puerperium is a time that every mother will definitely experience. This period lasts 42 days. At this time postpartum mothers experience several changes including physiological changes and psychological changes. The purpose of this study was to see whether there was a relationship between family support and the achievement of postpartum mothers' independence readiness. This research was quantitative research with a cross-sectional study. The sampling technique by means of nonprobability sampling using accidental sampling, the total population of 55 postpartum mothers, and obtained a total sample of 35 people. The instrument used was using a questionnaire to see the support of the mother's family. The questionnaire was filled in by postpartum mothers so that measurements could be carried out objectively. Based on the results of research and discussion, namely that there was a relationship between family support and postpartum mother's independence readiness, this was evidenced from the results of the analysis obtaining p-value=0,001. The importance of educating the family in preparing the mother for independence during the postpartum process is expected to make the mother more prepared to face her role as a mother.

Resumo:

The authors present a model of children's responses to their mother's shift in identity from heterosexual to lesbian. Initially, many children react with denial or anger and later respond with bargaining. They may experience depression before accepting their mother as a lesbian. The model is based on information gathered from workshops and in-depth interviews with lesbian mothers. Intervention strategies are proposed to help lesbian mothers support their children's responses and nurture their children's growth toward accepting their mother's lesbian identity.

<p><em>Failure to give exclusive breastfeeding to infants can be caused by factors in the mother's condition such as the mother's confidence or self-efficacy to provide breast milk to her baby. Most primipara mothers have low self-efficacy due to difficulties going through a role transition period and carrying out the demands of their new role as mothers. Kangaroo mother care is a method of skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby (skin-to-skin contact). In kangaroo method care, breast milk can always be available and very easy to obtain, because the baby is near the mother's breast so that the baby can suckle whenever the baby wants it and also increases the mother's bonding so that it can increase the mother's self-efficacy thereby increasing the success of the breastfeeding process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of kangaroo mother care on breastfeeding self-efficacy in primiparous mothers at RSU Royal Prima Medan in 2022. This type of research is a quasy experiment using a posttest only control group design. The results of the Independent T-Test test obtained a p-value of 0.000 which is less than 0.05 (0.000 <0.05), so that we can state that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. In conclusion, there is the effect of kangaroo mother care on breastfeeding self-efficacy in primiparous mothers at Royal Prima Medan General Hospital in 2022. It is hoped that this research can provide information that kangaroo mother care is very important and useful because it can increase breastfeeding self-efficacy.</em></p><p><strong><em>Key words</em></strong><em>: </em><em>Kangaroo Mother Care, ASI, Self Efficacy, Breastfeeding</em><strong><em></em></strong></p>

ABSTRACT Caring for mothers and newborns after passing through a critical period is a very important stage. At this stage, the mother can develop a deeper loving relationship with her baby, recover after giving birth and learn to understand how to care for her baby. In fact, quite a lot of mothers are still confused about caring for their babies. Research was conducted to support mothers in terms of independently caring for their newborns with the mother-baby care method and also to attract the participation of the mother's family and husband in newborn care. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a relationship between the M-BC approach in efforts to make post partum mothers independent. The research was carried out using a quantitative research design and using a cross sectional approach and taking a sample of 28 mothers at the Berastagi Mandiri Pratama Clinic. The test results using the Rank Spearman method show that the p value is smaller than the significance value (α). The correlation coefficient (r) between mother's knowledge about newborn care using the mother-baby care model and mother's independence motivation is 0.917 or 91.7% which indicates a very strong relationship. This research resulted in a strong correlation between the variables of mother's knowledge about the Mother-Baby Care method for newborns and the mother's independence variable so that it is suggested to health workers and institutes to use this model in the care of mothers and newborns. Keywords: Mother-Baby Care, Post-Partum Mother's Independence, Newborn Care. ABSTRAK Perawatan terhadap ibu dan bayi baru lahir setelah melewati masa kritis adalah tahap yang sangat penting. Di tahap ini ibu dapat mengembangkan hubungan kasih sayang yang lebih dalam dengan bayinya, memulihkan diri sehabis persalinan sekaligus belajar memahami cara merawat bayinya. Faktanya, cukup banyak ibu yang masih kebingungan merawat bayinya. Dilakukan penelitian untuk mendukung ibu dalam hal mandiri merawat bayi baru lahirnya dengan metode Mother-baby care dan juga menarik partisipasi keluarga dan suami ibu dalam perawatan bayi baru lahir. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat hubungan pendekatan M-BC dalam upaya memandirikan ibu post partum. Penelitan yang dilakukan yaitu memakai desain penelitian kuantitatif dan menggunakan metode pendekatan cross sectional dan mengambil sampel sebanyak 28 orang ibu di Klinik Pratama Mandiri Berastagi. Hasil uji menggunakan metode Rank Spearman yang menunjukkan nilai p value yang lebih kecil dari nilai signifikansi (α). Nilai koefisien korelasi (r) antara pengetahuan ibu tentang perawatan bayi baru lahir menggunakan model Mother-baby care dengan motivasi kemandirian ibu adalah sebesar 0,917 atau 91,7% yang menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang sangat kuat. Penelitian tersebut menghasilkan adanya korelasi yang kuat antara variabel pengetahuan ibu tentang metode Mother-Baby Care untuk bayi baru lahir dengan variabel kemandirian ibu sehingga disarankan kepada petugas dan institut kesehatan untuk menggunakan model ini dalam perawatan ibu dan bayi yang baru lahir. Kata Kunci: Mother-Baby Care, Kemandirian Ibu Post-Partum, Perawatan Bayi Baru Lahir.

Becoming a mother is a challenging time and for some women the lifestyle adjustment can be very stressful. In combination with the changes in family structure mothers are increasingly seeking professional support and assistance in the care of their infants and children. Child and family health services in NSW offer varying levels of professional support and education, including 24-hour residential care. The purpose of this study is to explore and describe the mothers' perceptions and experiences of residential admission to a Child and Family Health Unit - Karitane. This study is descriptive in nature. Sixteen English speaking mothers admitted to Karitane in 1998 took part in the study. Focus groups were the main source of data for the study. The focus groups were undirected, conversations recorded and written notes taken. Additional data were collected by a questionnaire to determine the demographic characteristics of the mothers. The mothers' indicators of depression were scored using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Each mother completed the EPDS during the admission period and at the time of the focus and respective comparison was made. Data analysis revealed that the mothers' EDPS scores had decreased significantly at the time of the focus group meeting. The key concepts that emerged in the mothers' descriptions of their experiences were the importance of the development of the professional relationship, equity and access to parenting services, particularly for the partner, and the need for services to promote and provide realistic parenting education with an early intervention focus. The implications of the findings lend support to health care professionals in lobbying government for the necessary funds, in providing increased access to quality parenting services.

Resumo:

Two longitudinal studies were conducted to explore the mother-infant communication process during the first four months of postnatal life. One study focused on mothers' experiences communicating with their infants. Forty-seven mothers were interviewed when their infants were 6 to 8 weeks of age; 42 of the same mothers were interviewed when their infants were 16 to 18 weeks of age. Mothers were asked questions about their interactions with their infants, how they talked to their infants, why they talked to their infants, how they learned to talk to their infants, and what th,eir beliefs were about the relationship between talking to infants and development. A model was constructed from these data, conceptualizing the communication process between mothers and their young infants. Four themes were identified: expert advice influenced some mother-infant communication; mothers and infants co-regulated some of their communication; maternal communication behaviors were consistent across age and ethnicity; and experience talking to pets influenced some new mothers' speaking styles.

In this hermeneutic phenomenological study, a purposive sample of 12 religious women considered their experiences of religiosity with their mothers and larger family systems. Adult daughters reflected on the significance and meaning of religion in their lives and relationships, particularly the interaction of mothers and adult daughters concerning spirituality, beliefs, and experiences including intergenerational transmission of religiosity. Adult daughters were queried regarding maternal religious influence and the challenges of being women. Data were collected to saturation and analyzed to consider individual narratives about families into the development of three themes: Family Connections, Religious Consciousness, and Encountering Community. Gilligan's theory of moral development, including the ethic of caretaking, is employed to consider religiosity in the adult daughter-mother relationship. Limitations, clinical implications, and future directions are explored.

Prematurity and the associated neonatal complications are identified as risk factors that may bring psychological complications both for the baby’s development and for the early mother-infant relationship. The birth of a preterm infant, the sudden end of the pregnancy, and infant’s hospitalization, often represent stressful experiences for parents. Therefore, premature birth may affect parental perceptions and attitudes, thereby distorting parent-child interactions and relationship. The present dissertation aims to examine the complex experience of parenting a preterm infant from a transactional perspective with a mixed method design. The theoretical framework integrates the transactional model of development, attachment theory and recent theories of infant research. Three studies, analyzing the phenomenon from different perspectives and using different methodological frameworks, are reported. The first study qualitatively analyzed narratives of 30 preterm infant mothers. Mothers were interviewed during infant hospitalization on the experiences of pregnancy, delivery and infant recovery. The thematic analysis revealed three major themes relevant for mothers: The construction of maternal identity, The construction of the representation of the bond with the child; The relationship with the healthcare providers and external world. The second study is a microanalysis of mother-infant’s emotion regulation and play during free play interactions at 3 and 6 months of infant’s age. Comparisons between 22 preterm and 20 full-term infant dyads revealed more differences at a maternal and dyadic level than at the infant’s level. Mother-premature infant dyads presented a typical interactive style characterized by maternal overstimulation and the tendency to lead the interaction. These dyads showed more difficulties to adjust their interaction to infant’s growth and more interactive risk indicators emerged at 6 months. The role of infant and maternal characteristics and maternal attachment models as protective and risk factors was explored. The third study examined perinatal Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and the levels of parenting stress in 156 mothers of full-term children and 87 mothers of preterm children. This study proposed a mediating role of PTSD symptoms between preterm/full-term birth and levels of parenting stress. The mothers were asked to complete a Web survey assessing perinatal PTSD symptoms, parenting stress and social support. The findings showed that mothers of preterm children experienced more post-traumatic symptoms and parenting stress than did mothers of full-term children. Levels of PTSD symptoms were higher for mothers with infants born at lower gestational age. The relationship between preterm/full-term birth and levels of parenting stress was mediated by PTSD symptoms. Moreover, the child’s age moderated the association between maternal PTSD and parenting stress. The discussions of the three studies are integrated in the final conclusions. Findings suggest that prematurity have implications for mothers’ transition to parenthood and for the development of mother-infant relationship confirming the need to examine the phenomenon from a transactional perspective. Implications for preventive interventions are addressed.

mother / me is a visual exploration and analysis of the biological and constructed maternal realms of artist Gray Swartzel’s life. Orienting and navigating childhood influences, Swartzel explains his desire to use Craigslist to seek out surrogates, or mother figures. Interrogating his queer body within the psychological space between himself and his biological and surrogate mothers, he challenges and interrogates conceptions of the nuclear family, critiquing heteronormative assumptions of family. Swartzel tasks himself as an agent to inspect family as a social construct within a larger Lacanian orientation, while seeking out the objet petit a, or cause of desire in such relationships. At any given time, approximately 4% of women in the United States are pregnant. Planned or unplanned, pregnancy changes the lives, mentalities, and bodies of women. Health and care are not only limited to the mother, but now extends out to the child as well. Pregnant women and their children require specialized care before and after the birth but sometimes these services can be difficult to locate, attend, and maintain. Mobile Mother aims to provide expecting mothers with top prenatal and postnatal services conveniently by bringing the clinic to them. The mission is to provide accessible, valuable, and quality care to pregnant women who have limited transportation, access to care, scheduling and time, or simply choose to not attend traditional maternity clinics in hospitals. Mobile Mother's goal is to deliver the best, convenient maternity care to expecting mothers in the Greater Los Angeles area. This proposal will provide detailed insight on how Mobile Mother aims to achieve these goals.

Resumo:

Four weeks before the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989 an eleven-year-old flees the Soviet Union with her young father. As political refugee determined to eventually settle in the United States they hastily abandon the girl's estranged alcoholic mother, future stepmother, their friends and relatives, their collection of books and all but a handful of family photographs. She eventually attempts to seek out and recover the people, ideas and objects lost on that voyage to America by going back to a much changed Russia and stitching together the scattered and forgotten pieces in between her old and new homes through dream-like snapshots. Two decades after her emigration the author examines the concept of bad luck in one's travels, the significance of the number four, ambivalent attachments, learning to mother from a place of abandonment, the familial legacy of escape and the pursuit of wholeness within inconsolable loss. The un-tellability of the story is considered through the lens of Sappho, Bernadette Mayer, Yoko Ono, Roland Barthes, Doris Lessing, Nico and many other surrogate mothers and fathers brought together as a chorus in a multi-vocal, lyric approach.

ABSTRACT Background: Woman who become mother have gone through various life cycles, from pregnancy till childbirth. During this postpartum period, almost all mothers also breastfeed their babies. The process of restoring the body health after childbirth along with caring for the baby often leaves the mother physically and psychologically exhausted. So many mothers cannot provide exclusive breastfeeding. This is where the husband’s role is very important to provide support to the mother. This study aimed to analyze the influence husband’s role on the mother’s interest in giving exclusive breastfeeding. Subjects and Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted for 2 months on 46 postpartum mothers. This study conducted in Wonokromo, Surabaya, in 2020. The independent variable was the husband’s role and the dependent variable was the mother’s interest in giving exclusive breastfeeding. The data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using Chi Square test. Results: The results showed that out of 21 (57.14%) mothers who had less husband’s role, most had a low interest in giving exclusive breastfeeding. Of the 25 mothers who have a good husband’s role, almost all (92%) have a high interest in exclusive breastfeeding (p< 0.001), and it was statistically significant. Conclusion: The better husband’s role in supporting his wife, the higher the mother’s interest in giving exclusive breastfeeding. Background: After birth, the growth and growth of boys will tend to be faster than girls and will last until a certain moment. This is affected by testosterone, a hormone that is higher in male babies than in female babies. The employment status of mothers may affect the role and presence of mothers in stimulating children to achieve motor development according to their age. Working mothers can have a negative or positive influence on the development of children. The negative impact of working mothers is that the presence of the mother in the child’s daily life is lower than that of the mother who is not working, so that the mother can provide motivation and stimulation. This study aimed to determine the gender and occupation relationship on fine motor skill among infants aged 6-11 months. Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional study of 284 infants aged 6-11 months. This study was carried out in eight community health centres in Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta. The dependent variable was fine motor skill. The independent variable was gender. Data on fine motoric development were based on the results of the pre-screening development questionnaire. Other data were collected from interview and questionnaire. Data were analyze using the Chi-square test. Results: There was a significant relationship between gender and fine motor development among infants aged 6-11 months. Conclusion: Gender is proven to have a significant relationship with fine motor development among infants aged 6-11 months. ABSTRACT Background: The breastfeeding practice of primiparous mothers in developed and developing countries is influenced by various factors. The breastfeeding factor for primiparous mothers is closely related to their initial experience of giving breast milk to success and failure in achieving exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to explore the factors that influence primiparous mothers in giving exclusive breastfeeding. Subjects and Methods: This scoping review uses an electronic bibliographic database method. Articles were obtained from 5 databases, namely Science Direct, PubMed, EBSCO, Wiley and ProQuest conducted systematically from 2009 to 2019. Articles used in this scoping review were described in the Prefered Reporting System of Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) flowchart. Results: Based on 8 articles from 421 articles obtained showed that internal factors come from the mother herself and external factors that come from outside the mother were related in giving exclusive breastfeeding. Internal factors include the initial response of primiparous mothers in exclusive breastfeeding, maternal psychology when giving exclusive breastfeeding, coping with primiparous mothers during the process of giving exclusive breastfeeding, commitment of primiparous mothers to exclusive breastfeeding. Maternal external factors include social support for primiparous mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding and socio-culture to primiparous mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusion: The most influential internal factor is the primiparous mother’s psychological factor. The most influential external factor is socio-culture. There are still many countries that adhere to socio-culture which can hinder the process of exclusive breastfeeding. ABSTRACT Background: Breastfeeding is the process of giving breast milk to infants from birth to 2 years of age. Breastfeeding twins requires more dedication than breastfeeding a single baby and there are many challenges in breastfeeding twins. This study aimed to review the psychological impact of mothers on breastfeeding twins. Subjects and Methods: This study used a scoping review study by using the Arksey & O’Malley framework. Article identification was using 4 databases, namely Pubmed, Wiley, Sciene Direct, and Ebsco from 2004 to 2019. Keywords selected related to this study and based on the criteria of inclusion are mothers who have twins, full text, in English and Indonesian. The data were reviewed using the Preferred Reporting Items For Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) flowchart guidelines. Results: Nine articles were reviewed out of 1015 extracted. Nine of these articles were screened using the Joanna Briggs Institute. Articles were come from developed and developing countries. Based on the article, there were 2 themes, namely the psychological impact of mothers who breastfeed twins and the support provided by their families. The mother becomes stressed when caring for twins, feels physical exhaustion and the mother feels that the production of breast milk is not sufficient for the baby’s needs. Husband or family support regarding care for newborns during breastfeeding, caring for older children, helping with household chores and encouraging or supporting mothers to continue breastfeeding. Conclusion: The psychological impact that occurs in the mother of twins is that the mother feels stress and the support of her husband or family greatly influences the mother to overcome the psychology of the mother of twin babies. There has been an increase in caesarean section rates globally. As much as caesarean sections might be life saving, some are unnecessary, they predispose the mother to potential harms, such as haemorrhage, and they have high costs. Non clinical interventions may reduce unnecessary caesarean section. This includes interventions such as providing education to health pro-fessionals and mothers, mandatory second opinions, financial in-terventions, and other guideline implementation strategies.
