Texto completo da fonteClassically, many assumptions are used to model the fluid behaviour in a lubricated contact : continuous film, constant viscosity across the film thickness, film thickness is very thin compared to other contact dimensions, Newtonian lubricant... However, some of them are not well-founded for the study of Elasto-HydroDynamic contacts with high sliding or to estimate the liquid distribution at the exit of the contact. An original numerical approach, based on the general fluid mechanics equations and taking into account the fluid/solid coupling and thermal effects, is developed here in order to give more physical insights to the usual modelling. First of all, the thermal effects are shown on the friction coefficient evolution for Thermo- EHD contacts. A minimum value is found concerning the friction value for the pure sliding case. It is explained by analyzing the heat transfer between the solids and the lubricant. The origin of the resulting local modifications of the film thickness and the existence of a film thickness for zero entrainment velocity cases are related to the presence of a high viscosity gradient through the film. A qualitative comparison is performed with experimental data from literature, validating the results. Second, the free surface flow of the lubricant around the contact is experimentally and numerically studied with a diffuse interface method. The capillary effects on the air/lubricant meniscus position are analyzed and quantitatively compared with experimental data from literature. Good agreements are found. An analytical approach is then developed, based on the numerical study of the two-phase flow. An analytical law predicting the liquid distribution is obtained. The exit area of EHD contacts is then investigated with a vaporous cavitation model highlighting the necessity of taking into account the effects of surrounding air and surface wettabillity. Finally, a first approach of the tri-dimensional two-phase flow is performed, showing the capillary effects on the interface location

Texto completo da fonteCities surprise and interest a large and long-standing scientific community of economists, sociologists, geographers and historians, in which physicists and mathematicians also have their word. Cities are surprising because they exist, which is anything but obvious and reflects the essential fact that individuals are prone to group together. Cities are interesting because they are developing to the point where they have become the primary context of human life on Earth, and understanding them properly has become a global issue. Finally, it is critical to note that cities are similar across civilizations despite the multiplicity of individualities that underlie them.The urban phenomenon and the empirical similarities between the cities of the world invite us to look for common causes: this is the grounding reason for a science of cities in which we place ourselves. Our quantitative work is unique in its methodology, which stems from statistical physics, but threefold in its objectives.We focus on urban demography, the main variable of urban systems, of which we study both the static distribution and the dynamic evolution, proposing a new law of urban growth.We also study the social dynamics of cities, which characterize the economic interactions between individuals and the dynamics of segregation and gentrification. Finally, we aim at describing urban transportation, the networks on which cities rely, and quantify the non-trivial environmental and economic consequences of the interplay between private and public transport

Texto completo da fonteEmbedded systems have evolved to more complex assemblies, called Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), mostly operating through networks and tightly interacting with the environment.As actuators or sensors, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) are essential elements in these systems where they are integrated along with control and signal processing units.Designing such solutions requires a multi-domain approach like virtual prototyping.Based on system-level models, this technique allows to anticipate the global behavior in early-design phases and to further refine it in more advanced steps.Integrated circuits were progressively designed with respect to this method, especially through Hardware Description Languages (HDLs) like VHDL or Verilog.By adopting a higher-abstraction degree, SystemC enabled the co-development of hardware/software specific applications.In parallel, the Analog and Mixed-Signal (AMS) extensions proposed in SystemC-AMS partly addressed the increasing amount of analog components and are considered as a promising alternative for the virtual prototyping of heterogeneous systems.To that end, this thesis addresses the system-level modeling and simulation of MEMS devices in SystemC-AMS.First, we evaluate the current capabilities of the standard and supported models of computation in SystemC-AMS.We demonstrate the limitations and the the difficulty to elaborate equivalent models of MEMS devices whose geometry and internal coupling require more detailed descriptions.Second, we propose to directly integrate MEMS reduced models in SystemC-AMS.Model-order reduction is a mathematical technique to decrease the number of degrees of freedom and generate compact models from large-scale systems.We thus integrate the reduced models exported from the finite-element analysis tool \emph{MEMS+} and propose an Application Programmable Interface (API) to insert these \textit{ad hoc} models in SystemC-AMS.After reviewing the main API features, we discuss some improvements of both the standard and the presented solution.Finally, we verify our solution through the use case of an accelerometer and compare the results with the state of the art in terms of modeling accuracy and simulation performance.This thesis introduces a framework to integrate MEMS devices with the surrounding electronics in a unified system-level simulation environment

Texto completo da fonteDuring the design phase, the different engineering teams make multiple FE simulations dealing with various physical behaviours in order to ensure both verification and validation.However, the unsatisfactory results lead to late changes and hence to long iterations and increasing costs.In order to tackle this problem, it is essential to take into account the geometrical and multi-physical constraints in the complex system architecture since the conceptual design phase.In fact, a process called SAMOS is developed aiming at selecting the most adequate 3D multi-physical architecture while ensuring an efficient collaboration between the engineering teams. Moreover, this framework is based on two SysML extensions which allow the enrichment of the architecture with geometrical and multi-physical data.Furthermore, this thesis focuses on magnetic constraints and magnetic-thermal coupling.Since this phase does not support long FE simulations, the analytical models based on simplified geometries are sufficient to provide satisfactory approximate results.In this context, different analytical models are studied and validated through FE simulations and measures for several cases such as NdFeB permanent magnets. Indeed, the temperature rise does not only decrease the remanent flux density but is able also to cause irreversible losses. In fact, once we go back to the initial temperature, the characteristics of the magnet are modified. The different factors impacting the demagnetization process are discussed.Besides, the temperature impact on brushless motors’ performances is studied since this device represents a complex mechatronic system

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis concerns electrodynamic loudspeaker modeling, simulation and control. Regarding modeling, we adopt a component-based approach that relies on port-Hamiltonian systems. Several linear and nonlinear phenomena are thus modeled and then aggregated in a multi-physical framework. Particular attention is paid to the impact of thermal effects on electrical and mechanical components, for which we introduce new irreversible conservative models. The simulations regenerate known complex behaviors. A first open-loop control is developed to eliminate distortions by differential flatness. In order to provide the controller with the model's nonlinearity parameters, an ad hoc estimation method is proposed. This combines a separation of the measurement into sub-signals (organized in a homogeneous order of non-linearity) and the optimization of a cost function (improving the contrast between orders). After numerical validation, estimation and control methods are applied on a test bench. The estimated physical parameters are consistent but the re-simulated time signals indicate the need of improvement of the model at very low frequency and to use higher homogeneous orders. The real-time corrector leads to a measurable reduction of the distortions on the sound pressure. In addition, another open-loop control is developed to compensate for the Doppler effect due to the movement of the membrane. Finally, methods on closed-loop control are proposed. One targets acoustic absorption by combining "control law in finite time" (for efficiency) and "passivity" (for robustness). The other, more general, develops an "half-physical, half-digital" method of connection between a physical system and a digital controller that makes the passivity insensitive to the delay introduced by the digital signal processor

Texto completo da fonteIndustrial systems cover many forms. Today, they are most often organized in networks. The new information and communication technologies provide a set of additional means to realize applications of major interest to strengthen the safe operation of these systems and the safety of people.Among these industrial systems, we can cite cyber-physical systems (CPS) characterized by a large number of variables, nonlinearities and uncertainties. Their decomposition into subsystems, making them more manageable and hierarchically organized, is fundamental. Each of the subsystems consists of different interconnected replaceable components that perform different functions.With this in mind, we propose a diagnostic approach based on four types of knowledge: functional, structural, topological and behavioral.This approach, which includes detection and localization, exploits the representation of different knowledge to detect and isolate the source of failure. In order to eliminate any ambiguity of location, the addition of a timed automat allows, thanks to a temporal analysis, to efficiently identify the defective component(s). The proposed multimodel approach is organized around three algorithms.Modeling and failure analysis is illustrated on a cyber-physical system: the "RobAIR" telepresence robot. The different knowledge models were established with an analysis approach as well as the construction of the diagnostician based on previously defined signaturesThe implementation of Matlab's Simulink / Stateflow isolation and detection algorithms made it possible to build the diagnoser according to the proposed methodology and thus validate our approach by simulating the operation with random injection of various failures.The proposed analysis method was applied to the RobaIR robot's start-up tests with particular attention to the displacement part. The testing of all the robot's functionalities is done by programming the Arduino board. For this application, the detection and isolation algorithms have been supplemented by obstacle detection and failure mode identification
