Gender classification is growing in popularity due to the variety of fields in which it can be used. It can be employed in various fields, including criminal investigations and security and authentication services. Gender Classifying speech for different speakers is still a demanding and challenging task for recognizing overlapped speech and building a robust prediction model. The paper provides a gender classification system that uses Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and several machine learning algorithms to identify mixing and de-mixing speech signals. ICA is employed to separate the mixed signal into their source signals. The system consists of two stages: the first stage is the mixing and separating process for signals. The second stage involves combining feature extraction and constructing a classification model to determine whether a signal is male or female based on its acoustic attributes. The system will evaluate the efficacy and significance of machine learning algorithms for selecting the optimal method to identify the speaker's gender with the most excellent efficiency and accuracy. Experimentation shows that the best accuracy value for an SVM model with mixing speeches is 87.1 %, and the best accuracy value for a Neural Net and SVM model with de-mixing speeches is 97.8 %.

This study investigated the types of code mixing used in one of teenage magazines in Indonesia, namely Aneka Yess! magazine. The research question was “what types of code mixing used in Aneka Yess! magazine”. The objective of this study was to find out the types of code mixing used in Aneka Yess! magazine, especially in “Palls Issue” rubric. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The techniques of data collection were: 1) collected the magazine during a month which consisted of two editions, namely 14 – 27 March dition, and 28 March – 10 April edition, 2) decided the rubric as an object of the study, 3) read the rubric, 4) underlined English code mixings, 5) identified the forms of code mixing. The result of this study showed that there were five forms of code mixings that used in the magazine, namely code mixing of word insertion that consist of 64 data, phrase insertion consist of 29 data, clause insertion consist of 10 data, reduplication insertion consist of 1 data, and idiom insertion consist of 4 data. The code mixings in word insertion was most frequently used in the magazine rather than the other types of code mixings, while the most rarely used was code mixing in reduplication insertion. It can be concluded that the using of code mixing was influenced by the capability or the knowledge of the speaker or interlocutor in using English language.

The mixing of scalar mesons is introduced into the baryon-baryon system in the chiral SU(3) quark model to further dynamically investigate the Di-omega state by using the same parameters as those in reasonably describing the experimental hyperon-nucleon and nucleon-nucleon scattering data. Two different mixings of scalar mesons, the ideal mixing and 19° mixing, are discussed, and compared with no mixing. The results show that it is still deeply bound state if 19° mixing is adopted, the same as those of no mixing. However, for ideal mixing, the binding energy is reduced quite a lot, yet it is still a bound state.

Code mixing (or transitioning from one code arrangement to another) is one of the hottest topics in contemporary linguistics. Kodlar aralashuvi is the transliteration of the English term code mixing (or code-switching), which first appeared in 1970s English linguistics. Prior to the use of this term, R. Yakobson drew attention to this phenomenon: “Any general code is multi-form, it is a hierarchical (stepped) set of different subcodes freely chosen by the speaker according to the function of the message, the relationship between the addressee and the interlocutors.”

In mainland China, previous studies have shown that Chinese-English code-mixing is gaining wide popularity while very limited researches focus on the public attitudes towards Chinese-English code-mixing. This paper therefore investigates the general perception of Chinese-English code-mixing in mainland China, specifically whether code-mixing is viewed favorably or unfavorably. By conducting online questionnaires which mainly examine the English proficiency of the respondents, their code-mixing usages and their attitudes towards code-mixing in mainland China, this paper aims to find out whether different types of code-mixings would lead to different attitudes of respondents, moreover, whether there would be a certain code-mixing type which is particularly liked or disliked. This paper illustrates the idea of Bhatia and Ritchie (2012)- “four factors determining language choice and mixing on the part of the bilingual”. Furthermore, this paper contends to analyze the topic by considering the aspects of individual and the social level in terms of psychology, history, education and politics (Bhatia & Ritchie, 2012).

Abstract Moisture was treated on a silica surface and it was added into bis(triethoxysilylpropyl)disulfide (TESPD)/carbon black (CB)/S-SBR compound and mixed in an internal mixer. The effects of moisture were investigated with respect to the temperature rise during mixing, processability, cure characteristics, and mechanical properties and two-pass (2P) mixings were compared with conventional three-pass (3P) mixings. Addition of the moisture treated silica into the compound lowered the heat generation during mixing, lowered the drop temperature, decreased the scorch time, lowered the heat build up, lowered the tanδ (E″/E′), increased the Mooney viscosity, increased the torque rise (MH-ML), increased the elongation modulus, increased the blow out time, and increased the deformation%. The properties of each compound were gradually increased with the level of moisture and the 2P mixing procedure generated less heat during mixing and exhibited better mechanical properties than the 3P mixing one. The addition of water molecules improved the silane reaction with silica surface via improved hydrolysis and resulted in an increased level of cross-linking. It also seemed hydrolyzes the benzothiazolesulfenamide accelerator and resulted in a faster scorch and an increased cure rate.

The data collection is done by recording conversations between four buyers and one the store saleswoman. Data wasanalysed qualitatively to obtain a comprehensive research result that aims to determine the type, level, nature, and causal factors of code interference. The results showed: (1) There are three types of code mixings that occur, namely external code-mixing, internal code-mixing and mixed code-mixing. The most common is external code-mixing, especially from English to Indonesian language. (2). The most common form of code-mixing is in the word level. (3). The cause of code interference is caused by several factors, namely the limitation factor in the mastery of vocabulary in the source language, to show the familiarity and habit factor of the speaker.

AbstractThe mixing behavior of a two-channel micromixer with a circular mixing chamber at four different chamber depths and six different flow rates had been investigated. Experiments were implemented with the mixings of two fluids. An image inspection method using the variance of the image gray level contrast as the measurement parameter to determine the mixing efficiency distribution in these mixers. The steady, three-dimensional and laminar flow fields inside the micromixers were also simulated numerically with a finite volume discretization. Through the numerical integration over the chamber depth, the three-dimensional numerical prediction could be compressed into a two-dimensional result, which could be directly used to compare with the experimental measurements. Experimental results show that the measured mixing efficiency is raised with the increase of chamber depth. The numerical prediction of mixing efficiency agreed qualitatively with those obtained from the experimental measurements, while the ratio of the depth to diameter of the mixing chamber is big enough to eliminate the viscosity effect.

Abstract. An idealized model of time-dependent mixing between cloud and non-cloud volumes is analyzed. Initial droplet size distribution (DSD) in cloud volume is assumed to be monodisperse. Both analytical investigation and parcel model investigation are used to study mixing processes and solve diffusion-evaporation equations. It is shown that the evolution of microphysical variables and the final equilibrium stage are unambiguously determined by two non-dimensional parameters. The first parameter, R, which is proportional to the ratio of the saturation deficit to the liquid water content in a cloud volume, determines whether the equilibrium stage is reached at 100 % relative humidity, or, rather, leads to a full evaporation of cloud droplets. The second parameter, Da, is the Damkölher number, which is equal to the ratio of the characteristic mixing time and phase relaxation time. This parameter (together with parameter R) determines whether mixing takes place according to a homogeneous or an inhomogeneous scenario. An analysis of the results obtained within a wide range of parameters R and Da is presented. It is shown that there is no pure homogeneous mixing, since the first stage of mixing is always inhomogeneous. Turbulent mixing between different volumes always starts as inhomogeneous and the mixing type can change during the mixing process. At any values of governing parameters, mixing leads to the formation of a tail of small droplets in the DSD and therefore to DSD broadening. The broadening depends onDa and the final DSD dispersion can be as large as 0.2 at large Da. The total duration of the mixing process varies from several to one hundred phase relaxation times, depending on R and Da. Delimitation between the types of mixing on the Da–R plane is carried out. The definitions of homogeneous and inhomogeneous mixings are reconsidered and clarified. The paper also compares the results of the current study with those obtained with classical mixing concepts.

A newS4flavor model based onSU(3)C⊗SU(3)L⊗U(1)Xgauge symmetry responsible for fermion masses and mixings is constructed. The neutrinos get small masses from only an antisextet ofSU(3)Lwhich is in a doublet underS4. In this work, we assume the VEVs of the antisextet differ from each other underS4and the difference of these VEVs is regarded as a small perturbation, and then the model can fit the experimental data on neutrino masses and mixings. Our results show that the neutrino masses are naturally small and a deviation from the tribimaximal neutrino mixing form can be realized. The quark masses and mixing matrix are also discussed. The number of required Higgs multiplets is less and the scalar potential of the model is simpler than those of the model based onS3and our previousS4model. The assignation of VEVs to antisextet leads to the mixing of the new gauge bosons and those in the standard model. The mixing in the charged gauge bosons as well as the neutral gauge bosons is considered.

Jet mixings of a coplanar alternating-lobe nozzle (CoALN), scarfing alternating-lobe nozzle (ScALN), sword alternating-lobe nozzle (SwALN), and sword and chevron alternating-lobe nozzle (SwChALN) were numerically investigated using three different far-field velocities to simulate the conditions of pumping air intake and stamping air intake. It was confirmed that the stamping air intake can be introduced to increase the cool air involved in the mixing for an infrared suppressor of a helicopter. It was found that the stamping air intake increases the amount of cool stream near the mixing tube, which can effectively decrease the temperature of the mixing tube, thus improving the infrared suppression performance. Under the two intake conditions, for a normal infrared suppressor with a short mixing tube, SwALN and SwChALN are recommended; however, for an integrated infrared suppressor with a long mixing tube, CoALN and ScALN should be adopted. The shape of the longitudinal vortices is closely related to the large-scale heat and mass convection. The plumper longitudinal vortices can bring faster mixing to the affected region.

The study of vortex-ring-induced mixing has been significant for understanding stratified turbulent mixing in the absence of a mean flow. Renewed interest in this topic has prompted the development of a one-dimensional model for the evolution of a stratified system in the context of isolated mixing events. This model is compared to numerical simulations and physical experiments of vortex rings interacting with a stratification. Qualitative agreement between the evolution of the density profiles is observed, along with close quantitative agreement of the mixing efficiency. This model highlights the key dynamical features of such isolated mixing events.

If the D4symmetry is violated as perturbation by a Higgs triplet under SU(3)Land lying in [Formula: see text] of D4, the corresponding neutrino mass mixing matrix gets the most general form. In this case, the model can fit the experimental data in 2012 on neutrino masses and mixing. Our results show that the neutrino masses are naturally small and a little deviation from the tribimaximal neutrino mixing form can be realized. The quark masses and mixing matrix are also discussed. In the model under consideration, the CKM matrix can be different from the unit matrix. The scalar potential of the model is more simpler than those of the model based on S3and S4. Assignation of VEVs to antisextets leads to the mixing of the new gauge bosons and those in the Standard Model. The mixing in the charged gauge bosons as well as the neutral gauge boson is considered.

In this work we consider scenarios where light sterile neutrinos are mixed with the active ones. The active-sterile neutrino mixings render new contributions to the invisible Z decay width which will depend predominantly on the active-sterile mixing matrix elements. We then use the current experimental value of the invisible Z decay width to obtain bounds on these mixing matrix elements for both (3+1) and (3+2) models.

We review the present understanding of neutrino masses and mixings, discussing what are the unknowns in the three-family oscillation scenario. Despite the anticipated success coming from the planned long baseline neutrino experiments in unraveling the leptonic mixing sector, there are two important unknowns which may remain obscure: the mixing angle θ13 and the CP-phase δ. The measurement of these two parameters has led us to consider the combination of superbeams and neutrino factories as the key to unveil the neutrino oscillation picture.

This study aims to discover the switching and mixing code types and their functions that are dominantly used in student online discussions. This research was designed in descriptive-qualitative method by using video recordings and interviews from Pragmatics class of postgraduate degree students as the data sources. The obtained data were then analyzed using Miles and Huberman model of analysis by involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students frequently switched and mixed codes during the discussions. In this case, ode mixing was dominantly occurred compared to code switching. There were 78 occurrences of code changes in total, with the proportions of 44 mixings and 34 switchings. Dealing with the types, insertion code mixing was found to be the mostly used in the discussions whereas intersentenential switching becomes the least. The phenomena of code switching and mixing in the classroom discussions has various functions, i.e.: for communication strategy, for delivering the meaning, for making clarification of the information, for defining specific terms, and for increasing understanding. This study also reflects the students' positive attitudes toward using switching and mixing codes in classroom discussion activities. It is recommended for further research to ensure the appropriate strategies for the teachers in switching and mixing codes for both offline and online classes.

The study analyzes potential gas explosion as a result of auto-ignition. Auto-ignition occurs in a system formed due to the mixing of combustion hot products with the initial cold mix containing fuel. These situations may occur in turbine engines in case of flame slip and blow-off, explosion products’ flow from one room to another, or to the gas-contaminated open space. The process of formation of systems studied in the article is based on the balance of total enthalpy of mixing combustion hot products of a hydrocarbon mixture with air and a cold initial mix containing fuel. The greatest attention has been paid to the potential explosion in the open space. The potential explosion of hydrocarbon mixings by a simplified kinetic mechanism, taking into account the low- and high-temperature nature of hydrocarbon oxidation, supplemented by mixing conditions has been considered. Inter alia, a potential explosion of highly diluted mixtures, i.e., mixtures with fuel content below the concentration limit for flame propagation have been considered. The induction periods within the temperature range Tx = 600900 К have been determined upon mixing of propane-based systems as the initial link of higher hydrocarbons with similar oxidation nature. The dependence of final temperature of the system after auto-ignition as compared with the initial temperature on the mixing time has been specified. The induction period corresponding with the instantaneous mixing has been used as a reference induction period. Therefore, the impact of chemical reactions at the moment of mixing has been excluded. The induction period has been measured from the moment of the end of mixing time. Its value decreased along with the increase in mixing time. For the mixing time above 10–12 induction periods at instantaneous mixing, the proportion of energy emitted within the auto-ignition process decreased sharply. The conditions required for the implementation of auto-ignition of such systems have been described.

In view of the recent announcement on nonzero neutrino mass from Super-Kamiokande experiment, it would be very timely to investigate all the possible scenarios on masses and mixings of light neutrinos. Recently suggested mass matrix texture for the quark CKM mixing, which can be originated from the family permutation symmetry and its suitable breakings, is assumed for the neutrino mass matrix and determined by the four combinations of solar, atmospheric and LSND neutrino data and cosmological hot dark matter bound as input constraints. The charged-lepton mass matrix is assumed to be diagonal so that the neutrino mixing matrix can be identified directly as the lepton flavor mixing matrix and no CP invariance violation originates from the leptonic sector. The results favor hierarchical patterns for the neutrino masses, which follow from the case when the solar-atmospheric data is used.

OverviewSpatial and shape data represented by 3D digital models have become a central component of our archaeological datasets. Immersive visual and audio interaction with these models offers an intuitive way to use these data. The mixing of the virtual with the real world suits archaeological work particularly well, and the technologies of augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) enable this type of interaction. Much past work on these technologies has involved public engagement, but they also hold the potential for valuable deployment directly in archaeological practice and research, especially the seamless integration offered by MR. This review examines the range of experiments archaeologists are currently undertaking with AR and MR, and it looks to the future applications of these technologies.
