Condition of the prison which is very different from the outside world gives rise to many stressors for inmates living in it. It makes the inmates have a high risk to suffer from any psychological problems. One of the most common psychological problems is depression. Mindfulness for Prisoners (Mindfulners) was developed from Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) which is a form of mindfulness therapy based on cognitive-behavioral approach. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of Mindfulners in reducing depression symtomps in inmates living in prisoner. The mindfulners program was conducted in the form of group therapy with the criteria of participants is inmates with more than 1 year sentence and has a BDI-II score in the medium to high category. The mindfulners program be held in 4 meetings, included 8 sessions with a duration of 120-150 minutes. This research used one group pretest-posttest design. Subject also given follow up after one week from the time of posttest. Quantitative data analysis technique using the paired sample t-test against pretest and posttest scores on the depression scale and mindfulness scale as a manipulation check. The result showed Z = -2.207b (p < 0.05). This suggest that Mindfulners Program can reduce depression in inmates living in prisoner significantly.

Previous research has confirmed that mindfulness may decrease negative emotions in college students. However, there has been less focus on the mechanism of mindfulness’s effect on negative emotions. This study explores the relationship between mindfulness and negative emotions and examines the mediating role of perceived social support and interpersonal sensitivity among college students in China. A total of 386 college students (65.8% female, 34.2% male) completed measures of The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), The 21-item Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21), The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and The Interpersonal Sensitivity Measure (IPSM). Using model 6 in SPSS PROCESS macro 3.3 software, we found: (1) mindfulness was negatively related to negative emotions; (2) interpersonal sensitivity mediated the relationship between mindfulness and negative emotions; (3) mindfulness was negatively related to negative emotions through the chain mediating of perceived social support and interpersonal sensitivity. Mindfulness, perceived social support, interpersonal sensitivity, and negative emotions in college students exerted significant associations with each other. Students can try mindfulness training to increase the perception of social support, reduce interpersonal sensitivity, and reduce negative emotions. The findings of this study may shed new light on the prevention and treatment of negative emotions among college students.

Mindfulness occurs in different populations, regardless of their religions, ages, and cultures, but the studies on Muslim backgrounds are insufficient. This study aims to empirically investigate mindfulness's benefits on academic outcomes among Yemeni students. A total of 160 Yemeni students were recruited to complete the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-SS) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and divided into two groups (experimental group = 80, control group = 80). The experimental group received mindfulness training, while the control group did not receive any training. After the experiment, both groups completed the questionnaires again. The results revealed that the experimental group's emotional exhaustion, cynicism, lack of academic efficacy, and perceived stress were decreased compared to the control group. We concluded that mindfulness meditation training decreased academic burnout and stress among Yemeni students. We suggest mindfulness meditation training could be a good program for decreasing academic problems among Muslim students.

Injured athletes often face performance challenges upon returning to the field, influenced by external factors and negative emotions. This study investigates how mindfulness is associated with perfectionism, exercise self-efficacy, and competitive state anxiety in athletes recovering from injuries. Using snowball sampling and convenience sampling methods with a cross-sectional dataset of 359 participants from southern China (collected between October and November 2022), we employed structural equation modelling to analyse the relationship between mindfulness and competitive state anxiety in returning athletes. The results reveal that mindfulness interventions enhance exercise self-efficacy, boost task-related confidence, reshape perfectionism towards a positive outlook, and decrease competitive state anxiety. This study establishes positive correlations between perfectionism and competitive state anxiety, and a negative correlation between exercise self-efficacy and competitive state anxiety. Moreover, exercise self-efficacy and perfectionism partially mediate mindfulness’s positive impact on competitive state anxiety. In conclusion, this research highlights mindfulness’s potential to alleviate perfectionism and competitive state anxiety while enhancing exercise self-efficacy among athletes on the road to recovery.

Both mindfulness and authentic leadership base themselves on self-awareness. Authentic leadership has positively predicted organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and mindfulness has been positively correlated to work engagement, which has shared positive relationships with OCB. Job demands (JD) have been shown to compromise work engagement. Using a sample of 134 MBA and undergraduate students, a longitudinal design evaluated the meditational role of authentic functioning (AF) between mindfulness and OCB and the moderating role of JD. Over the course of three months, three questionnaires were administered to measure mindfulness, AF, OCB, and JD. Despite the positive predictive relationship between mindfulness and AF, there was not a significant predictive relationship between AF and OCB or the predictor (i.e. mindfulness) and criterion (i.e. OCB) variables, so structural equation modeling could not reveal if AF mediates the relationship between mindfulness and OCB. These findings suggest that AF could be a characteristic mechanism of mindfulness that helps facilitate certain behaviors. Future practical implications could suggest the prosocial value of cultivating mindfulness and authentic leadership to promote overall organizational functioning.

Mindfulness may be described as a state of heightened present-moment awareness that we all experience to a greater of lesser extent. Enhancing this quality of awareness through training has shown to alleviate stress and promote mental and physical well-being and, as a consequence, the clinical application of mindfulness is gaining in popularity. Because of this, there is a growing need to understand how mindfulness were investigaged in a series of research studies in this thesis, by means of literature analysis, clinical intervention, functional brain imaging and brain-lesion methods. In Study One a total of 10 commonly proposed mechanisms of mindfulness were identified through a qualitive systematic analysis of the literature: self-regulation, exposure, cognitive flexibility, acceptance, disidentification, awareness/insight, reattribution, attention, metacognition, and relaxation. Mediation analyses in Study Two confirmed that acceptance and cognitive flexibility significantly mediated the relationship between mindfulness and reduced symptoms of stress and the acceptance significantly mediated the relationship between mindfulness and mood disturbance. Functional magnetic resonance imaging was employed in Study Three to further test these findings and state mindfulness shown to mediate midline cortical regions associated with interoception. The findings of Study Three suggest that mindfulness may be associated with positive outcomes through a process of disidentification; a process described as removing the 'self' in the experiencing of passing events. Damage to the midline cortical brain regions identified in Study Three, however, showed to have no significant effect on naturally-occurring mindfulness, according the results of a pilot brain-lesion investigation in Study Four. Based on the findings of the studies in this thesis, it is suggested that mindfulness may reduce vulnerability to stress and emotional distress through a meta-mechanism of disidentification and through more direct mechanisms: acceptance and cognitive flexibility. The collected evidence supports the application of mindfulness training as an intervention to advance affective and cognitive well-being. At a broader level, the findings also establish a firmer relationship between mental control and optimal mental functioning.

Literature is a deeply personal and interpersonal act from the author to the reader. In some way the author is attempting to capture their interpretation of space and time inside the vehicle of language. Through metaphor and enjambment, syntax and imagery, this thesis attempts to render the contemporary experience of the artist as he is grounded in location and interpretation. The lens used in inspecting the world is biological and philosophical, seeking and hiding from the truth. Nature and science are used as linking languages in the collections of poems, seeking to be united with emotion based in the bedrock of Kentucky. Poetry is ephemeral in its brevity, but concrete in the impressions it can leave with the reader. The author has attempted to render the facts as he observed them in language which is specifically universal. No one else could have participated in the experiment of research, but all are welcome to share in the observations. Kentucky is the pivotal element in this research. Experimentation was made with other locations, but the sense of place that can only be found in these hills provides the fertilizer for the elements of literary art to flourish. The author seeks to enrich the landscape that has created him, and to provide a snapshot of this land and its people.

This study was an experimental trial of a classroom-based intervention to influence mindfulness among MBA students at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MBA students at MIT Sloan and elsewhere are conditioned to look forward and reflect on the past only to the degree that it helps plan for the future. They are rarely taught to be aware of what is occurring in the current moment. Training students to be more mindful, that is better able to be aware of and to pay attention to present moment experience would contribute to the mission of MBA programs to create leaders by giving students meaningful insight into their own thoughts, feelings, and actions. Within the literatures of medicine, neuroscience, psychology, and education, investigators have found that mindfulness has been positively correlated with improved well-being, reduced stress, better decision-making and perspective-taking, as well as improved personal relationships (Brown and Ryan, 2003; Block-Lerner, Adair, Plumb, Rhatigan, & Orsillo, 2007; Dekeyser, Raes, Leijssen, Leysen, & Dewulf, 2008; De Dea Roglio & Light, 2009; Kabat-Zinn, 1994). While the potential benefits of mindfulness have been established in multiple fields, there is scant research on mindfulness and MBA students. This research study explored whether brief mindfulness meditation exercises, embedded in an existing course, would influence MBA students' levels of mindfulness as measured by the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) (Brown & Ryan, 2003). In the fall 2014 semester, a sample of 158 first-year MBA students from MIT Sloan participated in an experiment with modified randomization of a pre/post design. Data analysis revealed that participant scores on the MAAS decreased significantly from pretest to posttest, though less so in the treatment group. These findings suggest that the intervention was not robust enough to exert a positive influence on participants' levels of mindfulness in the graduate business school context. This research contributes to the literature by providing important information about the requisite exposure to and scalability of the intervention in research on mindfulness meditation in higher education

Mindfulness practice is used to treat mental and physical symptoms. The problem is that research on the long-term effects and the neural changes involved, correlated with well-being, are inconsistent. The purpose of this review is to create a deeper understanding of mindfulness and its neural correlates related to stress. In mindfulness, one can use focused attention meditation (FA), involving anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), prefrontal cortex (PFC), parietal areas, thalamus, visual cortex, intraparietal sulcus, and amygdala. In open monitoring meditation (OM), ACC, PFC, insula, somatosensory cortex, limbic areas and amygdala are involved. In exposure to a high amount of stress, the grey matter volume decreases in the hippocampus, PFC, and amygdala. Research has also shown that 19 000 hours of mindfulness practice increases activation in areas involved in FA and OM. This increased activation might also enhance the subject’s ability to control emotions. After 44 000 hours of meditation, areas involved in FA showed less activation which might imply that more hours of mindfulness practice involve less cognitive activity and a calmer state of mind. Regardless of hours spent on meditating, a decreased activation in the amygdala and ACC occurs, which correlates with less response towards negative stimuli. The neural changes involved in mindfulness practice was related to less experienced stress and enhanced psychological well-being. For future research, an investigation of the interaction between attentional networks and stress would be of relevance.

Abstract Mindfulness practice has been proved to have sound intervention effects in stress relief and emotion regulation. However, traditional mindfulness therapy relies on group courses under the guidance of experts, which is limited by personnel and site resources. There has been growing interest in mindfulness practice and related interaction products without exploring the role of biofeedback mechanism in mindfulness practice. However, to translate this potential into concrete design applications, we need a qualitative understanding of how breathing feedback is embedded in game design. This article discusses the effects of different physiological feedbacks mechanism in virtual environments for mindfulness game design, exploring the impact of breathing feedback (continuous feedback) versus head orientation feedback (discontinuous feedback) on young mindfulness beginners. Using “MindJourney,” we present key insights that summarize how physiological feedback can be used in mindfulness-based games for immersive interactions, self-state perception, and motivational design experiences. The experimental results show that the MindJourney mindfulness practice system can effectively improve users’ mindfulness practice experience, promote mindfulness ability training and stress relief, and has specific theoretical significance and application value. This article shares practical experiences in the other design and exploration of mindfulness game practice in health interventions to provide youth with a healthy lifestyle.

In this paper we describe the effect of incorporating two mindfulness techniques (keeping a diary and motivational interviewing) in a professional skills course, and the impact these had on students’ self-perceptions of mindfulness. Over the course of a fourteen-week semester, students were asked to keep a diary at four different time points and were also taught motivational interviewing skills, which they had to apply to a four-part counseling project. Using a pre-post study design and the validated tool, the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), we meausred students’ perceptions of mindfulness pre-course and post-course. Results from the study indicated that students’ perceptions of mindfulness significantly increased from pre-course to post-course. Further, most students agreed that both the diary assignments and practicing motivational interviewing increased mindfulness from pre-course to post-course. Additionally, a majority of students reported that practicing motivational interviewing enhanced their counseling skills on the four-part counseling project, and that the four diary assignments improved their writing skills. This study underscores the importance of incorporating mindfulness techniques into a professional skills course to increase students’ mindfulness, which can further benefit the student by increasing students’ professional skills to become more competent counselors and writers.

Mindfulness has been proposed as a technique for assisting people in overcoming stress and anxiety in daily life. Furthermore, mindfulness has academic benefits, particularly in second language acquisition (SLA), because it can increase verbal learning and memory through enhanced encoding, as well as influence academic accomplishment and awareness. This research intends to investigate the relationship between mindfulness and SLA from the perspective of neurolinguistics in order to elucidate the benefits of mindfulness in SLA. Using a qualitative research method, this work investigates the positive changes in the neural system caused by mindfulness practices based on neuropsychology and neurolinguistic theories, which may have an impact on SLA. As a result, mindfulness has an effective impact on the neural system, which can help learners enhance their concentration as well as their working memory, hence improving their academic performance on SLA. Given the benefits that mindfulness can provide to learners, it is advised that learners be taught some mindfulness practices during the teaching and learning process.

The report outlines one of the modern and ecological methods of psychotherapy – mindfulness. The history of the method and the evolution of the principles of mindfulness are outlined. The main highlights of the report are the disclosure of the main neuropsychological and neurobiological mechanisms of Mindfulness as a psychotherapeutic practice. The main changes and correlations in the work of the brain are illustrated on the example of a study by David Creswell. The diagrams demonstrate the inhibition of tonsil activity and the background of increased activity in various areas of the prefrontal cortex during the execution of mindfulness practices. The data draw conclusions for further research, namely, what are the differential neuropsychological changes during the different content of the practice of mindfulness (development of empathy, body scan, etc.). What impact will mindfulness have on the neuropsychological features of children's development and how do changes affect the social apperception of the individual. Key words: mindfulness, awareness, attentiveness, neuropsychological mechanisms

Review question / Objective: Can mindfulness-based intervention recover mental fatigue? Condition being studied: Mental fatigue: mental fatigue is a psychobiological state caused by a prolonged period of demanding cognitive activity, and it has implicated many aspects of daily life. It results in an acute feeling of tiredness and a decreased cognitive ability. Mindfulness: Mindfulness is rooted in Buddhism, and it is defined as the awareness that emerges from paying attention to objects on purpose and without judging the unfolding of experience. In a successful mindfulness mediation, meditators experience current feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations clearly and plainly without judging or evaluating them and acting on the sensation.
