Patriarchal capitalism shows the dominance of men in the various life sector. Feminism, as a style, demands gender equality. This research aims to understand body autonomy in a short story "Wanita Muda di Sebuah Hotel Mewah" with Sara Mills' feminist perspective. This descriptive qualitative method took the data from the short story written by Hamsad Rangkuti in 2016, published by Senja. This research observed the subjects, objects, and readers via reading and note techniques. The results showed that the sixteen-year-old woman became the object. The woman did not have any autonomy over her body. The other problem was the economic problems that made her sold his virginity. The self-trafficking process of the hotel officer made the officer the subject. The third matter, the beauty of the body and the virginity, was the co-modification that had price value. The fourth, the woman could not control her body. The feminist interpretation, based on Sara Mills, in the short story, showed that the woman became the object, the guess, and the hotel officer as the subject. The position woman also had the reader's position, the hotel officer, and the hotel guest.

The authors investigate the effect of location on the nightly hotel room rates charged in Las Vegas. Using a hedonic estimation approach, the authors control for room amenities and hotel and time characteristics. Including 6087 hotel room nights for hotels located near the Las Vegas Strip in two different years (2012 and 2017), the authors estimate the relationship between hotel location and nightly room rates. Consistent with prior investigations, the authors find strong evidence for the effect of location, amenities, and day of week on hotel prices, with a “Strip premium” of 40.21% (US$106.85 at the mean hotel price) for hotels located within 0.25 miles of the Las Vegas Strip compared to hotels beyond 0.75 miles of the Strip. They estimate a Center-of-Strip premium of 70.23% (US$186.61 at the mean hotel price) for hotels located within 0.75 miles, 36.89% (US$98.01) for the next 0.75 miles, and 18.89% (US$50.18) for the next 0.75 miles, compared to hotels beyond 2.25 miles.

Abstract This study is an attempt to describe the current condition of the watermills situated in the river valleys of the Silesian voivodeship. Changes in the number and distribution of mills from the late 18th century until the 20th century have been presented (as exemplified by the Liswarta River basin in the northern part of the voivodeship). Watermills have been discussed both as industrial monuments that document the history of the milling industry and as tourist attractions. Currently, working mills that serve the local population in rural areas are a rarity, and working watermills are unique sites that should be protected as industrial monuments that constitute an important part of our cultural heritage. They are among those industrial monuments that are particularly vulnerable to destruction. Such mills increasingly attract the interest of industrial tourism promoters. Activities aimed at promoting watermills as cultural heritage sites and leading to their protection and preservation as part of the river valley landscape have also been discussed. In the Silesian voivodeship, there are many watermills that deserve attention; some of these are listed in the register of monuments maintained by the National Heritage Board of Poland. Unfortunately, most disused mills are falling into disrepair and are slowly disappearing; only a few have been preserved in good condition. Many of these have long histories and they are also situated in areas attractive for tourists. There is no doubt that watermills should be preserved. Their inclusion in open-air museums is not the only solution – any form of protection in situ by putting them to different uses is also valuable. Changing the function of a mill to serve as a hotel, restaurant, cultural centre, etc. makes it possible to maintain these sites as parts of river valley landscapes.

On the last day of May 1872, “three respectably, but not ostentatiously dressed Chinamen” arrived at the Charing Cross Hotel, London. They brought with them three letters and four heavy boxes for presentation to Her Majesty, Queen Victoria. While they waited for a reply to their letters and for an opportunity to present the boxes, they toured London, visiting the Mint, Woolwich Arsenal, Newgate Prison, the Enfield Ordnance Factory, the Powder Mills at Waltham Abbey, the Post Office and the Bank of England. At the end of July they were informed that Her Majesty's Government could not accept the proposals outlined in their letters and that Her Majesty could not receive the boxes. On 21 September 1872, the three Chinese departed, leaving behind the four sealed boxes. Thus appeared to end one of the more bizarre episodes in nineteenth-century Anglo-Chinese relations.

Abstract Construction of high-rise buildings is currently flourishing implemented that serves as an office, hall, hotel, or home. High-rise buildings in general minimize the use of construction materials that has a heavy weight to reduce the building load and achieving efficiency. One of construction parts that can be minimized weight is a wall construction. The materials of partition wall which produced are glass, gypsum, concrete and wood. This research uses of wood fiber materials from oil palm trunks which have reached the age of replanting. It is constituted by the growing oil palm plantations and palm oil mills in Indonesia so that it will also increase waste produced. This research uses experimental methods to determine the mixture of adhesive and oil palm trunk fiber (OPTF) in order to reach the standards of strength by find out the physical and mechanical properties of the partition. The result shows that using ratio 70:30 of adhesive and OPTF reach the standard partition wall that serves as partition board and decorative panel.

This study finds that hotel location significantly contributes to the property market value. With a sample of more than 600 hotel sales transactions within the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), the theory that properties located closer to the city center, that is, the Loop, carry market value premiums is tested and supported by the data. Despite being the predominant spatial value driver for hotels, the effect of proximity to the city center is found to be heterogeneous. An additional mile away from the Loop decreases property value by 13% on average when the hotel is located within the 10 miles from the Loop. However, value decreases at a much lower pace when hotels are located outside this 10-mile buffer. Other spatial variables, such as access to transportation systems and neighborhood dimensions, show that accessibility and environment play a lesser but decisive role in hotel market value. Practitioners and researchers may benefit from these findings mostly when comparing and analyzing hotel market values in a context similar to the urban structure of Chicago.

This study aims to analyze the management of food waste in the hotel sector with a focus on reducing the amount of food waste produced. The research method used is a qualitative method with the Miles and Huberman Model approach. Primary data was obtained through in-depth interviews with 22 respondents from FnB hospitality practitioners, experts, customers, and Foodbank institutions, using a purposive sampling technique. The results show that food processing in the hotel sector is carried out efficiently, but there are differences in the number of food waste per customer. Challenges in Food Waste Management (FWM) include unpredictable sales fluctuations, lack of customer awareness, and food wastage. Effective strategies to reduce food waste involve inventory management, employee training, customer education, and collaboration with Foodbank institutions. FWM has significant economic, social, and environmental impacts. FWM has direct links to the three Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2, SDG 12, and SDG 13) on eradicating hunger, responsible consumption and production, and climate action. Managerial implications for hotels based on these conclusions include implementing an effective monitoring and reporting system related to FWM, collaboration with Food Rescue agencies, and encouraging customer participation through education and incentives. Diploma thesis called “CONVERSION OF DORMITORY TO HOSTEL AND NEW DESIGN OF HOTEL, TOMIOKA SILK MILL JAPAN“ was elaborated according to the regulations in the form of architectural study. The topics of this thesis were two variants of possible conversion of accommodation for workwomen (dormitory). The partial assignment comprised solution to the arrangement of greenery in the atrium of the dormitory, and revitalization of plateau. The building is located in the premise of a former silk mill in the city Tomioka in the Gunma prefecture on the Honshu island in Japan. The conversion of the building for the novel purpose required replenishment of necessary facilities, and some building interventions to assure operation of the hostel. In both variants, partial adjustment of the original building was needed. However, all changes had to maintain proportions and volume of the building not to compromise the original concept of whole premise as well as the skyline of the city. The adjustments of the original building of dormitory consisted of a completion of the entrance portal including a foyer, and a reception with the base of operation. Large glass areas in combination with exposed concrete were used as construction materials. These materials were selected so that the new structures (monolithic ferroconcrete) are clearly distinguishable from original ones (wood). The Internal atrium was designed in the style of modern japan garden with various types of surfaces (vegetation – moss; mineral – gravel and stones). Variant 1 – the new constructions of the two facility buildings. Building A is washroom building, and building B is catering building with toilets. The volumes of individual objects were formed by simple prisms rotated by 30° a 60° against axis of dormitory. These volumes complied with dimensions of the original building. The building A protruded on the edge of the slope, and it was paneled with glass plates. The building B was glassed-in from the south, while the northern side was constructed from exposed concrete in a compact way. The building A was divided to two symmetric parts by a central wall for both structural and functional purposes. At the end of the building, there was an ofuro (swimming pool) providing views of the surrounding mountains. Typological solution of the building B included separate toilets with a mixed washroom, which were located in the northern part of the building. In the southern part, the space for catering was divided to an operational space, and a space for visitors by a dispensing counter. The building A was from reinforced concrete and was founded on the base plate. The central wall represented the main load-bearing structural element that prevents transverse breakage. The central wall was anchored into the ground with piles. The building B was also from reinforced concrete and was based on the strip foundations. Variant 2 – the extension was formed as a simple prism that complied with the rectangular system of the premise and dimensions of the original dormitory building. Employed materials of the new constructions were concrete and glass similarly to the other new extensions. To ensure intimate environment, the glass part of a façade was enclosed by a bamboo fence. This space was also used as a viewable green garden. The building was typologically divided to the parts for women and men. Both parts were equipped with ofuro. The building was monolithic ferroconcrete skeleton based on the footings.

In this chapter, the landscaped area at Les Milles provides a starting point for examining the more general role of ‘landscape’ at Holocaust memorials. The chapter first considers how the therapeutic role of nature and horticulture presented at memorial sites are often posited against the violence and suffering produced by human culture and technology. It goes on to challenge the potentially neutralizing effect such a presentation of nature as associated with purity and innocence can have on the site as a whole. Where a landscaped area such as the small space at Les Milles might aim to operate as a form of containment, marking out the limits of memorial activity, the chapter argues for a wider understanding of landscape drawing in particular on W.J.T. Mitchell’s reading of landscape and power. The chapter will consider the memorial landscape in France more generally and how commemoration of resistance is often celebrated over above the internment and deportation of Jews occurring at the same sites and across the same landscapes. It also provides a more detailed focus on the wider internment ‘galaxy’ around Les Milles, linking the memorial site to hotels in Marseille – Hotel Bompard, Hotel Levant and Hotel Terminus des Ports - that once housed women and children later transferred to Les Milles for deportation.

In more than fifty years as a smoker, she never forgot that cigarette. The occasion was her first formal dance, on the roof of a hotel in Dallas, Texas, some 400 miles from her home in the small town of Dumas. Abstract The Sunday evening phone call sounded completely ordinary. A friend who lives a few miles away wanted me to call a few other Caltech graduates for the alumni association. I had helped him before, and I agreed to help him again. We chatted a bit, and as we finished, he added, ‘‘You know how dedicated I am? I’m calling from my hotel room in Cairo at two in the morning.’’ I was stunned. When I was growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, it was rare to get long-distance calls from relatives a few hundred miles away. They didn’t call to chat but to report news in static-toned voices that sounded far, far away. My friend’s voice sounded as clear and sharp as a telephone can be, as if he was calling from his home in the next town, not 5400 miles away in Egypt. Abstract The death, in a modest Parisian hotel in 1891, of a dethroned and exiled emperor from South America would seem to bear little relevance to the development and eventual outcome of the career of a musically gifted child, at that time just 4 years old. In truth, the event was both symbolic and catalytic. The emperor was Pedro II of Brazil, overthrown by military republicans in Rio de Janeiro in November 1889, and the child was the young Heitor Villa-Lobos, born in March 1887, mere miles from the wedding-cake-pink, palm tree-secluded, and decaying royal palace, in which Pedro was then enjoying the flickering glory of his remaining months in power.

Resumo:
Abstract A hundred miles and two major rivers separated the Northern and Southern congresses. In the smoke-filled rooms, oyster bars, hotel lobbies, and congressional chambers in Richmond and Washington, legislators furiously argued over how to represent a people at war. In three areas—funding the war, unifying judicial authority, and underwriting private initiative—the two congresses differed in every possible way. Though the decisive battles took place in forts and fields, an army, Napoleon once noted, marches on its stomach. The military’s capacity to fight rested on what governments gave armies or allowed them to take. Both nations’ congressmen responded to the erosion of slavery, the costs of occupation and guerrilla warfare, and the ballooning casualties. Hoping to solidify their claims to nationhood, they reached into every household.
