Texto completo da fonteFirst a general process is proposed to experimentally design anisotropic inhomogeneous metamaterials obtained through a change of coordinate in the Helmholtz equation. The method is applied to the case of a cylindrical transformation that allows to perform cloaking. To approximate such complex metamaterials we apply results of the theory of homogenization and combine them with a genetic algorithm. To illustrate the power of our approach, we design three types of cloaks composed of isotropic concentric layers structured with three types of perforations: curved rectangles, split rings and crosses. These cloaks have parameters compatible with existing technology and they mimic the behavior of the transformed material. Then we focus on elastic waves, espcially plate waves. Controlling elastic waves in plates is a major challenge previously addressed without energy considerations. We propose an energy approach for the design of plate cloaks, which prevents any unphysical features. Within this framework, it is shown that the Kirchhoff-Love equation for anisotropic heterogeneous plates is form invariant for a class of transformations with a vanishing Hessian. This formalism is detailed and numerically validated with three-dimensional simulations in the time domain. Finally we performed a lab scale experiment studying the interaction between surface wave propagating in rock and a network of resonators made of aluminium rod. Using high precision mesurement methods we managed to give new insights on this type of interactions

Texto completo da fonteThe seismic metamaterials (SMs) make it possible to protect buildings in a way of efficiently attenuating and effectively controlling seismic waves. The SMs can attenuate seismic waves on the way of propagating to buildings, thereby protecting people's lives and property. Considering the multiple and high hazard of earthquakes, as well as some disadvantages that cannot be ignored in the seismic isolations, SMs have shown the application prospects. Several SMs are design in this thesis for isolating seismic Rayleigh waves. These SMs can attenuate seismic Rayleigh waves in the wide-low-frequency range and ultra-low frequency range, to protect man-made buildings and reduce the damage of earthquakes. This work not only provides new approaches for controlling seismic surface waves at ultra-low frequency, but also provides new design ideas for steering surface wave

Texto completo da fonteAmbient-noise interferometry is an approach to estimate the transient response between two receivers without an active source. The method consists of cross-correlating recordings of ambient vibrations at a pair of passive instruments that act only as receivers. This dissertation contributes to evaluating the robustness and accuracy of Green's function reconstruction by cross-correlation of noise, disentangling the respective roles of ballistic and reverberated ('coda') signals. We focus our study on a strongly reverberating medium. We conduct a suite of experiments on a highly reverberating thin duralumin plate. We find that the coda of the arrivals contribute the most to retrieval of the Green's function. We also develop an analytical model that predicts the dependence of symmetry of the cross-correlations on the number of sources. Next, we focus on a reverberating medium with a scatterer. We passively estimate the scattering strength of the scatterer by implementing ambient-noise interferometry. In the last part, we focus on a reverberating medium with locally resonant scatterers which acts as a metamaterial. Our objective is to assess the behaviour of the cross-correlation in such a medium. We build an example of such materials in the laboratory by attaching an array of rods, arranged in a sub-wavelength order, to the surface of a thin elastic plate. We find different behaviours which are consistent with the regimes that correspond to propagation band and bandgap. We next apply the cross-correlation technique to the real data obtained in METAFORET experiment. Our findings are consistent with the resonating behaviour of trees at the corresponding frequency bands
