Eudosia is still searching for her husband’s remains in the highlands of Ayacucho, Lucero has been in prison for 25 years now for the crime of terrorism against the Peruvian state, and since 2009 the commandos of the counterinsurgency unit Chavin de Huantar recreate and commemorate their heroic military actions to save a nation from the threat of terrorism. Twelve years after the Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission published its final report about the atrocities committed during the internal armed conflict (1980-2000), memories of this period seem more contested than ever. This film explores the complex legacies of twenty years of violence and war in Peru through practices of remembering. In three audio-visual pieces made in collaboration with relatives of the disappeared, insurgents of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) and members of the Armed Forces, this documentary aims for creating an on-screen dialogue between memories, which in practice remains elusive.

This article explores how a digital memorial for forcibly disappeared persons contributes to transitional justice in Lebanon. It presents the joint establishment of an interactive digital memorial by a collective of nongovernmental organizations, relatives of missing persons, and youth volunteers. The case study is situated in debates on transitional justice, calls for democratization of collective memories and archives, and discussions on new information and communication technologies. The article demonstrates how the development and launch of Fushat Amal (Space for Hope) is shaped and confined by postwar sociopolitical realities that are all but favorable to memorialization or justice-seeking initiatives. It highlights how digitalized memories can open up spaces that remain closed in the offline world, enabling survivors to share their stories, build collectives, demand recognition, and advocate for justice. At the same time, the authors discuss the limitations of digital memorials in relation to questions of access, ownership, and sustainability.

PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Memória, patrimônio digital, narrativas, Facebook ABSTRACT Is the internet a place of memory? Starting from this question, the objective of this work is to present discussions about the proliferation of narratives in social networks and how the memory that emerges from these narratives are part of the digital heritage of a certain social group. In addition, we discuss the concept of digital heritage and its implications in the current panorama of social memory. Social networks, in addition to their communicative and social functions, have become spaces for the recording and preservation of memories and storehouses of digital memorial trails. In this way, Facebook ends up claiming for itself a "place of memories" on the internet. KEYWORDS: Memory, digital heritage, narratives, Facebook RESUMEN ¿Internet es un espacio para las memorias? This article offers translation as a new model for conceptualising the transnational travel of memories that operates through transcultural memorial forms. It draws on translation studies, world literature studies and receptions studies to describe the domesticating and foreignising effects of memories that are ‘born translated’ and the ways they are received. The second part of the article discusses Sofi Oksanen’s novel Purge as a translation of memories of Soviet state terror through the transcultural memorial form of war rape and its foreignising effects in the local context of remembering of these events.

What is the nature of memorials? Traditionally, memorials have been conceptualized as lasting entities preserving memories of our shared pasts. This paper challenges this view. My aim is to retheorize our practices of memorialization by examining the role that ephemerality plays in experiential memorials. Rather than fixed structures of meaning, experiential memorials are unstable careers whose significance depends on viewers’ performative engagement. I provide evidence for my thesis by developing a critical interpretation of Qi Kang’s Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall (NMMH) as an example of experiential memorial. The fragmented nature of the here and now frees visitors’ experiences. Like the wind propelling Benjamin’s Angelus Novus into future and progress, the ephemerality of NMMH’s experience unchains its significance from the constriction of dominant narratives of vengeance and resentment. If liberated temporally, the experience of memorials may help us not only to never forget, but also to find reconciliation.

The objective of this creative project was to see if inspiration from historical and literal references could be integrated with an expressionistic approach to sculpture in the form of a memorial. This study involved creating a series of electroformed models or maquettes (seven final pieces) that examined this three-dimensional dilemma based on the concept of building a larger memorial sculpture for an abandoned cemetery near Oxford, Ohio, where my ancestors are buried (there are no monuments left in this wooded location). The cemetery, called the Freeman Cemetery, is named in honor of my Great Great Great Grandfather John Freeman, a Revolutionary War Soldier, who is buried there. This site was of particular concern as it is threatened to be disturbed and possibly built on as part of a nearby expanding housing development (it may not be protected by Ohio law). This study included looking at the site, the natural flora and fauna of the Midwest, the historical precedence in memorials, and the utilization of background in architecture to help generate the forms. It also involved learning the techniques of electroforming, sculptural construction and fabrication, and patina processes.

Resumo:
In modern processor architectures, caches are widely used to shorten the gap between the processor speed and memory access time. However, caches are time unpredictable, especially the shared L2 cache used by different cores on multicore processors. Thus, it can significantly increase the complexity of worst-case execution time (WCET) analysis, which is crucial for real-time systems. This dissertation designs several time-predictable scratchpad memory (SPM) based architectures for both VLIW (Very Long InstructionWord) based single-core and multicore processors. First, this dissertation proposes a time predictable two-level SPM based architecture for VLIW based single-core processors, and an ILP (Integer Linear Programming) based static memory objects allocation algorithm is extended to support the multi-level SPMs without harming the time predictability of SPMs. Second, several SPM based architectures for VLIW based multicore processors are designed. To support these architectures, the dynamic memory objects allocation based partition, the static memory objects allocation based partition and the static memory objects allocation based priority L2 SPM strategy are proposed, which retain the characteristic of time predictability. Also, both the WCET and worst-case energy consumption (WCEC) of our SPM based single-core and multicore architectures are completely evaluated in this dissertation. Last, to exploit the load/store latencies that are statically known in this architecture, we study a SPM-aware scheduling method to improve the performance. Our experimental results indicate the strengths and weaknesses of each proposed architecture and allocation method, which offers interesting memory design options to enable real-time computing. The strength of the two-level architecture is its superior performance compared to the one-level architecture, while the strength of the one-level architecture is its simple implementation. Also, the two-level architecture with separated L1 SPM for each core better fits for the data-intensive real-time applications, which not only retains good performance but also achieves a higher bandwidth by accessing both instruction and data SPM at the same time. Compared to the static based strategies, the dynamic allocation based partition L2 SPM strategy offers the better performance on each core because of the reuse of SPM space at the run-time, but has much higher complexity. In addition, the experimental results show that the timing and energy performance of our proposed SPM based architectures are superior to the similar cache based and hybrid architectures. Meanwhile, our architectures can ensure time predictability which is desirable for the real-time systems.

This thesis seeks to examine the concept of the corroded memory, an idea that has driven the development of a large body of original creative work which includes performances, compact disk recordings, audio walks and video installations. I have completed this work during the last four years of part time study as a Master of Arts - Research student, enrolled at the University of Wollongong, Faculty of Creative Arts.In this thesis I examine, analyse and provide a context for a variety of publicly presented sound andvideo works. The conceptual framework and intent, together with the compositional techniques employed in each work are documented along with a self-evaluation of the various failures and successes of these works. Where necessary I will allude to references of work and ideas by other artists, composers and musicians who have influenced my work. This thesis was written to clarify ideas that are central to my folio of creative and curatorial work. My folio can be found on companion music CDs and DVDs. The text of the thesis which includes five appendices with a more detailed description of each work will have most significance for those readers who refer to the documented performances supplied on recorded media.

This thesis is intended to analyse a mental phenomenon widely neglected in current philosophical discussions: personal memories. Although the analysis is philosophical, the methodological approach is interdisciplinary in order to integrate empirical research done in cognitive science. The first part presents a general framework to better understand what personal memories are, how we access our personal past and what we access about our personal past. Chapter 1 introduces traditional theories of memory: direct realism and representationalism in their differen versions, as well as some objections. I defend here a particular form of representationalism that is based on the distinction between content, intentional object and ontological object. Chapter 2 explores the possible contents of our personal memories, which prove to be heterogenous, even embodied and external, whereas chapter 3 analyses their possible intentional objects, with a special focus on past events. The second part of the thesis explores an aspect of our personal memories that was omitted in the first part: the senses in which our personal past is apprehended as personal. Chapter 4 examines the way in which the "self" intervenes in the construction of our personal memories anc determines their content. Chapters 5 and 6 focus on the analysis of what seems to be the most subjective aspect of our memories, that is, the emotions and feelings of our past experiences. In these last two chapters, I analyse the different interactions that can take place between memories and emotions and defend the idea that there can be memories with an emotional aspect that is not reducible neither to a propositional memory nor an occurrent and present emotion

The present project consists of carrying out certain investigations in order to analyze and provide solutions to a problem, which is the lack of accessibility and time for people to print their photographs. Today, the habit of physically having an album with special memories has been lost, since people prefer to upload their photos to social networks. However, research and interviews found that most people do not buy an album, because there are not many places where photos are printed at a reasonable price. For this reason, our team at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences has determined that, if there is the intention of people to purchase an album, but that it is accessible and original for the client, according to their tastes and preferences, so, for To satisfy our target audience, personalized albums will be made with prices from S / 50 soles to S / 80 soles depending on the number of photos they want, the consumer will choose the theme for their album, the photographs will be edited by us and in different sizes , we will have a mobile application where there will be a user database, in order to choose and edit the photos of your best memories, at the end of the album it will be sent to your home. To this end, a series of investigations and experiments has been carried out, with which our proposal is supported with the problem statement, solutions and a profitable projection of the business.

Memories are experiences that are removed from our present time and space. The images I create are also removed; they are of a specific time and place, an instant or series of instances captured. The work I have produced in this program is an amalgamation of two artistic media, photography and paint. I choose to layer images to emphasize the complexity of experiences and to illustrate a sense of time. The combination of a mechanical and a handmade object emphasizes the intricacy of our experiences. What is revealed is a combination of color and image that creates multiple compositions within the whole. Layering paint with photography and sculpture allows me to continue to experiment and explore the variety of media that I find most interesting. I draw inspiration from many artists including Jackson Pollack, Willem DeKooning, Richard Diebenkorn, the Starn Twins, David Hockney and Frida Kahlo. These influences and my own interpretations are what makes my work my own.

The extremely large storage density of volume holographic memories is applicable to numeric and neural network optical computing. Such photorefractive memories can be used to provide optical storage of binary bit-plane or gray scale images as well as weighted interconnects for optical digital and neural network computing. However, success in applying optical memories to computing will strongly depend not only on the memory's large capacity and short random access time, but also on the memory's dynamic characteristics.
