Les illustrations des récits de Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville, baronne d’Aulnoy, ont peu attiré l’attention de la critique, qui s’est davantage intéressée aux frontispices des divers recueils de la conteuse. Or, celles-ci nous permettent de mieux comprendre l’évolution qui caractérise la réception du genre féerique au cours du xviii e siècle, de même que le rapport entre texte et image dans le contexte particulier du conte de fées, qui, par nature, donne à voir. L’étude diachronique de séries iconographiques produites pour illustrer les diverses éditions des Contes nouveaux ou les Fées à la mode d’Aulnoy apparaît alors comme une voie prometteuse pour appréhender ces deux phénomènes. Dans cet article, nous nous intéressons plus particulièrement à celles réalisées pour les contes « La biche au bois », « Belle Belle ou le chevalier Fortuné » et « Le pigeon et la colombe », d’abord sous la forme de gravures réalisées par Jean Raymond pour le recueil en quatre tomes publié chez la veuve de Théodore Girard en 1698, et ensuite dans les versions en pleine page que fournit Clément-Pierre Marillier pour le Cabinet des fées (1785-1787) que dirigera Charles-Joseph de Mayer.

Celem artykułu jest prześledzenie inspiracji elementami folkloru i mitologii celtyckiej w prozie young adult fantasy oraz sprawdzenie, w jaki sposób są one eksplorowane w cyklu Siedmiorzecze Juliet Marillier (1999–2001), wieloksięgu The Raven Cycle (2012–2016) i powieści Wyścig śmierci (2011) Maggie Stiefvater, cyklu Królowa lata Melissy Marr (2007–2011), powieści Rzeka zaklęta Rebekki Ross (2022) oraz cyklach stworzonych przez Cassandrę Clare: Dary Anioła (2007–2014), Mroczne intrygi (2016–2018) i Sarah J. Maas: Dwór cierni i róż (2015–2021), Księżycowe Miasto (2020–2024), Szklany tron (2012–2018). Analiza dotyczy zwłaszcza postaci wróżki, istoty z celtyckiego folkloru pojawiającej się w popkulturze najczęściej, w mniejszym stopniu innych aspektów wierzeń i obyczajów wywodzących się z tego kręgu kulturowego. Autorka wskazuje, że choć nie wszystkie twórczynie w pełni wykorzystały ich potencjał, pozostają one interesującym i inspirującym zbiorem znaczeń i symboli, które stanowią urozmaicenie i alternatywę dla autorek i autorów chcących (s)tworzyć nowe fabuły, wyzyskujące mitologie i wierzenia (nie tylko) europejskich społeczności przedchrześcijańskich oraz wprowadzić do nich aktualną problematykę.

This article is devoted to the comparative study of images of the incense burner, i.e. a device for filling the interior with a pleasing scent. The author refers to materials from French design and book engravings of the eighteenth century. The article contains descriptions and results of a comparative analysis of engraved images of incense burners in the works of French decorators and illustrators of the eighteenth century. A comparative study of incense burners as a sketch of an interior item and as the entourage of a book illustration makes it possible to trace the changes in their typology, style, and semantics over the eighteenth century. The article refers to engraved sketches of incense burners in the projects of French architects and ornamentalists of the eighteenth century, such as J. Bйren, B. Turreau, J.-M. Oppenord, J.-F. Blondel, J.-Ch. Delafosse, J.-F. de Nefforge, J.-F. Boucher, R. De La Londe, and J.-F. Forty. Secondly, it draws upon book engravings depicting incense burners created by such artists as C. Gillot, L.-F. Dubourg, H.-F. Gravelot, F. Boucher, Ch. Eisen, J.-J.-F. Le Barbier, K.-P. Marillier, J.-M. Moreau le Jeune, J. de Sиve, and A. Borel. As a result of the description and analysis of images, the author determines the genres and features of the iconography of the incense burner. A comparative analysis of design and book engravings helps address the problem of the genesis of the image of the incense burner in illustrations. The author substantiates the direct influence of design engravings on the images of incense burners in book illustrations and at the same time, the absence of a “literal” influence of literary texts, pointing out the stable continuity of images of the incense burner in similar works of illustrators for different editions of the same literary text. In a comparative aspect, the article analyses the semantics of images of the incense burner in the design and book engravings, noting the predominance of the sensual-hedonistic connotation of the images of the incense burner over the eighteenth century.

Abstract The profound benefit of immune checkpoint blockade for cancer therapy is restricted to limited subsets of patients with specific cancers. Many factors contribute to primary and acquired resistance to immune checkpoint blockade, including local accumulation of immunosuppressive metabolites such as the nucleoside adenosine and downstream adenosine receptor signaling. Pharmacological inhibition of adenosine generation and signaling are active areas of clinical investigation. Here we report a novel mechanism whereby adenosine suppresses anti-cancer immune responses by intracellular accumulation. We show that human T cells readily take up adenosine via equilibrative nucleoside transporter 1 (ENT1), suppressing proliferation and effector function by inhibition of de novo pyrimidine nucleotide synthesis in T cells. ENT1 expression increases upon T cell activation, suggesting uptake of extracellular adenosine is a mechanism to limit T cell responses in high adenosine environments. Quantitative mass spectrometry imaging reveals adenosine concentrations in human tumors up to the range of 100 µM - levels significantly greater than previously demonstrated and consistent with suppression of T cell responses. Deletion of ENT1 leads to potent control of tumor growth in syngeneic mouse models including KPC, a poorly immunogenic model of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, and is associated with increased CD8+ T cell frequency, proliferation and cytokine production within tumors. Furthermore, ENT1 expression was observed by flow cytometry on human tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells. We have discovered and characterized EOS301984, a potent ENT1 antagonist that is currently being evaluated in patients with advanced solid tumors. EOS301984 blocks intracellular adenosine transport and restores pyrimidine levels in T cells activated in the presence of adenosine, resulting in enhanced tumor cell killing by memory T cells and increased ex vivo expansion of functional human tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in adenosine-rich environments. Finally, in a humanized mouse model of triple negative breast cancer resistant to anti-PD-1 blockade (MDA-MB-231), combination of EOS301984 with nivolumab synergistically led to control of tumor growth. Thus, ENT1 inhibition represents a novel approach to augment anti-cancer immune responses through restoring pyrimidine nucleotide synthesis in T cells suppressed by adenosine. Abstract Background: In response to cellular death and hypoxia, ATP is passively released into the extracellular space. ATP undergoes rapid stepwise conversion to the potent, immune-suppressive adenosine by ectoenzymes CD39 and CD73. Engagement of adenosine with the A2A and A2B receptors (A2AR, A2BR) promote the suppressive effects of adenosine. Early-phase clinical trials in men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) suggest that A2AR antagonism may mitigate adenosine-driven immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment (TME). The effect of A2AR antagonism on tumor cells themselves is unknown. Investigating combination treatments to promote both immune and tumor-intrinsic anti-tumor activity, we hypothesize that inhibition of adenosine signaling through the A2AR combined with PARP inhibition is an effective combination therapy for men with homologous repair deficient (HRD) CRPC. Methods: Here, we interrogate publicly available prostate cancer genomic datasets in the cBioPortal to evaluate the incidence of mutational and copy number alterations in the ENTPD1 (CD39), NT5E (CD73), and ADORA2A (A2AR) genes. Using an A2AR antagonist, we examine the effects of blocking A2AR signaling on tumor cell viability and expression of CD39, CD73, A2AR, and PARP expression in two androgen-insensitive human prostate cancer cell lines, DU145 and PC3. In DU145 and PC3 xenograft models, we tested A2AR antagonist, PARP inhibitor, or a combination of A2AR antagonist and PARP inhibitor, compared to vehicle alone on tumor growth. Results: Assessment of mutational and copy number alterations of ENTPD1 (CD39), NT5E (CD73), and ADORA2A (A2AR) in localized and metastatic prostate cancer reveals that the ADORA2A gene is amplified 10 times more frequently (2.4% vs. 0.2%, p<0.01) in the metastatic setting. Stratifying the metastatic cohort by anti-androgen treatments, we found that in patients with prior abiraterone and/or enzalutamide exposure, ADORA2A was more commonly amplified (4.4% vs. 0.7%, p<0.005), whereas ENTPD1 or NT5E were not. In both DU145 and PC3 cell lines, A2AR antagonism drives a dose dependent increase in cell death and expressions of A2AR, CD39, and CD73, especially in the DU145 cell line characterized by multiple missense mutations in key genes in the homologous recombination pathway. In both the DU145 and PC3 xenograft models, treatment with an A2AR antagonist or PARP inhibitor monotherapy did not significantly influence tumor volumes. However, when combined, A2AR antagonism plus PARP inhibition resulted in a 59% reduction in tumor volume (196.3 mm3 vs. 479.6 mm3, p<0.001) in the DU145 model, compared to vehicle-treated control. In the PC3 model, with fewer alterations to the HR pathway, monotherapy also had no influence on tumor volume. When combined, A2AR antagonism plus PARP inhibition caused a 43% reduction in volume (304.1 mm3 vs. 538.2.0 mm3, p<0.05). Conclusion: These data suggest that combined A2AR and PARP inhibition may be an effective therapeutic combination for HRD metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Citation Format: Patrick J. Abstract IL-27 is a member of the IL-12 cytokine family that consists of EBV-induced gene 3 (EBI3), and p28. IL-27 is produced by activated antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells (DCs) and macrophages, and it signals through a heterodimeric receptor (IL-27R) consisting of the WSX-1 and the gp130. Emerging evidence has shown that IL-27 has both pro- and anti-Inflammatory effects. Recent study demonstrated a protected role IL-27p28 in acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) in parent-to-F1 murine aGVHD model (Marillier et al., Eur. J. Immunol. 2014). However, the precise role of IL-27 in the development of aGVHD remains largely unknown. In this study, we carried out studies in a murine aGVHD model of fully MHC-mismatched myeloablative bone marrow transplantation (C57BL/6 to BALB/c). Lethally irradiated BALB/c mice transplanted with WT B6 bone marrow (BM) plus IL-27-/-(IL-27p28flox/flox-CD11c-cre (Itgax-p28f/f)) splenocytes had significantly accelerated aGVHD mortality comparing with those received WT BM plus splenocytes (P<0.001). However, similar aGVHD mortality was observed between mice transplanted with WT BM plus WT splenocytes and IL-27-/-BM plus WT splenocytes, and IL-27-/-BM plus IL-27-/- splenocytes, suggesting that IL-27 from splenocytes, not BM-derived cells, had protective effect in aGVHD. Additionally, mice were transplanted with IL-27-/- BM and splenocytes, and then treated with rmIL-27 on days 0 and 7 post BMT. rmIL-27 treated mice had longer survival and alleviated the clinical signs of aGVHD compared to PBS-treated mice (P<0.05). We next explored the mechanisms by which IL-27 protects mice against aGVHD. We found the expression of the cell surface IL-27 receptor, WSX-1 and gp130, were increased on both CD4+ and CD8+T cells after allo-stimulation. Moreover, IL-27 inhibited cell proliferation of allo-reactive T cells in mix lymphocytes reactivation (MLR) in vitro. We also found that the percentages of CD69+CD4+, CD69+CD8+T cells, as well as IFN-γ expression by CD4+ and CD8+T, were significantly increased in the spleen, liver and intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) from mice transplanted with WT BM and IL-27-/- splenocytes. Furthermore, we observed increased frequencies and numbers of Treg cells and MDSCs in aGVHD target organs in mice reconstituted with IL-27-/-splenocytes. Together, these results indicated that IL-27 alleviated aGVHD may through suppressing Th1 cell responses and promoting immune suppressing cells, including MDSCs and Treg cells. To further clarify the role of IL-27 in aGVHD, mice were transplanted with WT BM plus IL-27R-/-(B6N.129P2-Il27ratm1Mak/J) splenocytes, the results, however, showed that IL-27R deficiency in donor T cells significantly attenuated aGVHD, which was unpredicted, and was contrary to that of IL-27 deficiency results. Additional studies showed that IL-27R deficiency in T cells inhibited allo-reactive T cells proliferation and IL-2, IFN-γ production in MLR assay. The percentages of CD69+ T cells and IFN-γ+ CD4+ and CD8+T were significantly decreased, while the MDSCs and Treg cells wereincreased in aGVHD target organs from mice transplanted IL-27R-/-splenocytes. These results indicated that lack of IL-27R signaling resulted in downregulation of intrinsic immune responses which led to alleviation of aGVHD. Previous study reported that soluble form of IL-27Ra is highly existed in human serum and may severs as a natural IL-27 antagonist (Dietrich et al., JI. 2014). We hypothesized that sIL-27Ra may function as a decoy receptor to regulate aGVHD through inhibiting IL-27 signaling. To test this hypothesis, WT recipients were given exogenous soluble mouse IL-27 Ra Fc chimera protein known to block the binding of IL-27 to the membrane bound form of IL-27R. WT recipients given IL-27 Ra-Fc to block IL-27R/IL-27 interaction had significantly exacerbated GVHD mortality. The percentages of CD69+ T cells and IFN-γ+ CD4+ and CD8+T were significantly increased in aGVHD target organs from mice received IL-27 Ra fusion protein. In conclusion, this is the first demonstration in the same allogeneic BMT model that IL-27 deficiency augments but IL-27R deficiency alleviates acute GVHD. Our studies provide further evidence for the protective role of rmIL-27, and promoting effect of sIL-27R in the same aGVHD model. The re-writing of a fairy tale caters for characters, settings and values that have undergone changes, be it explicit or implicit. In Juliet Marillier’s Wildwood Dancing, the main female character Jena is transformed from the passive and obedient Twelfth/Youngest Princess of Grimm’s The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes into a brave and sensible figure. She challenges the oppression of patriarchal rules by taking control of her household in her father’s absence, securing her four sisters’ welfare, and keeping secret of their nocturnal dancing trips in the Other Kingdom despite being threatened by her domineering male cousin. In this way, Gerard Genette’s Hypertextuality strives to investigate the underlying patterns manifested in both literary works by applying the Re-vision element. Through it, Jena’s and the Twelfth/Youngest Princess’ sensibility trait and the socio-cultural settings surrounding them are highlighted in order to determine the importance of the overall hypertextuality process that takes place between the two. Later, Jena emerges as the more influential heroine than her predecessor character because she does not stop struggling to be regarded as an independent young woman who can always give advice and make decisions for her family affairs sensibly. Also, it is eventually proven that sensibility is indeed a strong weapon to be possessed by women in order to empower themselves against the conventions of a patriarchal world.

Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan implementasi kebijakan pendidikan tentang pelaksanaan pembelajaran jarak jauh atau pembelajaran daring (pembelajaran melalui media online) pada masa darurat Covid-19 di SMK Ma’arif NU 1 Rawalo menggunakan teori dari Marille S. Grindle. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan metode pengumpulan data wawancara, observasi dan studi dokumentasi. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah: a) Pelaksanaan pembelajaran daring di SMK Ma’arif NU 1 Rawalo kurang efektif. b) Siswa kurang maksimal dalam memanfaatkan waktu dan alat elektronik untuk belajar. c) Meningkatnya kemampuan guru dalam penggunaan alat elektronik untuk membuat materi pembelajaran berbasis TIK. d) Terdapat beberapa faktor yang menjadi kendala dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran daring, seperti: kemampuan dan kemauan guru dalam memberikan materi pelajaran kepada siswa memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi; kurangnya dukungan alat elektronik yang dimiliki siswa; menurunnya minat belajar siswa; dan jaringan koneksi internet yang kurang stabil.

Resumo:

It has been widely demonstrated that chromospheric emission is dependent on rotation rate (Hartmann and Noyes, 1987, Catalano, 1990, for recent reviews). Since the rotation decays with time, the chromospheric activity of single main sequence stars is also dependent on age. Catalano and Marilli (1983) suggested that the chromospheric emission of solar mass stars decays exponentially with the square root of the time, as recently confirmed by Barry (1988). Magnetic activity depends also on the convection parameters, i.e. on the mass. Since the evolution of surface rotation is faster for lower mass stars (Catalano et al., 1988), the internal rotation distribution, and therefore the dynamo action, should change with time in a different way for different masses.In order to get insight into the evolution of dynamo action we have studied the CaII chromospheric emission as a function of mass and age. Here we present some preliminary results of observations of late type stars in young clusters and old moving groups.

Resumo:

This project is unusual as an ECML project in that it explicitly does not deal with foreign or second languages. Our working term ‘majority language’, used in the project title, denotes a language variously referred to as a ‘national’ or ‘official’ language, a ‘language of instruction’ or a ‘language of education’ in Beacco & Byram's 2007 report (http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/guide_niveau3_EN.asp), but that has recently been termed a ‘language(s) of schooling’ in the 2009 project of that name by the Council of Europe's Language Policy Division (www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/Schoollang_EN.asp). Such a language is usually the native language of a majority of pupils in a country, but not necessarily in an individual class or school, where many other native languages might be represented.

Using four model plants, two members of the Gramineae, rye and wheat, and two Brassicaceae, Brassica napus and Arabidopsis thaliana, two fundamental approaches were exploited to determine how regulating source-sink development would alter photosynthesis, productivity and yield during long-term acclimation to elevated CO2. In one approach we exploited the cold acclimation response of winter wheat, rye and B. napus. In the other approach we modified the dark respiration in A. thaliana to alter availability of respiratory substrates required for anabolic processes, such as fatty acid metabolism, thus reducing sink limitations on canopy photosynthesis at elevated CO2. Taken together, the data show the importance of maintaining strong demand from active sinks when the above-ground canopy is being exposed to elevated levels of the primary substrate of photosynthesis, CO2.

Banyak kajian sastra feminis yang menempatkan tokoh utama sebagai pusat pembahasannya. Namun beberapa penelitian mengabaikan peran karakter minor. Faktanya, tokoh utama tidak bisa berdiri sendiri tanpa tokoh minor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana tokoh minor bernama Eudoria Holmes mempengaruhi putrinya, Enola Holmes untuk mewujudkan prinsip dan nilai feminisme liberal berdasarkan teori Marilley dalam film Enola Holmes (2020) dan Enola Holmes 2 (2022). Para peneliti menggunakan konsep feminisme untuk mengidentifikasi bagaimana feminisme liberal ditampilkan dalam film. Data pendukung diperoleh dari berbagai sumber, seperti buku, artikel, dan jurnal terkait diskriminasi gender, stereotip terhadap perempuan, dan feminisme. Dalam pengumpulan data digunakan teknik analisis dokumen. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan feminis. Para peneliti menemukan ada tiga jenis feminisme liberal. Yang pertama adalah feminisme persamaan hak; Eudoria mempengaruhi Enola untuk memiliki sekelompok orang yang berbicara satu suara agar dapat didengar. Yang kedua adalah feminisme ketakutan; Eudoria yang pertama kali mengalami ketakutan dan ketidakamanan di masyarakat membuat Enola terjerumus ke dalam situasi tidak aman dan tidak nyaman karena tidak mengikuti standar masyarakat. Yang terakhir adalah feminisme pengembangan pribadi; Eudoria mengajak Enola berpikir kritis dari berbagai sudut pandang. Singkatnya, kajian ini memperkaya pembahasan feminisme melalui kacamata karakter minor yang jarang dieksplorasi.

The article studies the role of such cultural phenomena as melancholy and nostalgia in artistic and “ontological” aspects of rock music. The relevance of this study is due to a high frequency of occurrence of these phenomena in numerous types of modern art (there have been several research dedicated to this issue), as well as the growing popularity of “melancholic rock” in a wide audience. Of particular significance for the author in scientific understanding of the proposed topic were the works by S. Boym, V. Medushevsky, J. Starobinski, V. Syrov, T. Tsaregradskaya, W. Everett, K. Johannison and other researchers. The study of melancholy in rock music was based on British psychedelic and progressive rock, with a detailed review of several vivid examples of compositions by Pink Floyd, Barclay James Harvest, King Crimson, Genesis, Marillion and Steven Wilson. The main purpose of this work is to reveal the characteristic musical and stylistic features, means of expression, and thematic patterns of “melancholic rock”. Among them the most important (in the author’s opinion) are the following: the prevalence of slow tempo (non-typical of rock in general), ostinato, “lack of aspiration” (according to V. Medushevsky), distinctive modal and intonational features (minority, polymodality, lamento intonation complex), folklore and early music influences, special appeal to the “nostalgic” timbres of bowed strings, organ, and wind instruments (both in live performance and electro-mechanical playback or electronic samples), and “flickering” acoustic guitar sounds. A wide range of emotions and moods are presented, from light sadness to deep sorrow, the themes of loss, loneliness, “lost childhood”, etc. The article stresses the role of melancholy, its “emotional modus” and specific sound that overcomes the intellectuality of progressive rock (sometimes excessive), its “calculated” character. At the same time, the “lack of aspiration” can be counter-balanced by the intense dramatic development, typical of progressive rock.

Receiving contributions from a large number of people is by no means a new method of financing an activity. Popular examples go back to Pullitzer’s campaign to finance the statue of liberty’s pedestal in 1885 and Alexander Pope’s translation of Homer’s Illiad in 1713. With the emergence of the internet and its widespread integration in households it has become possible for fundraisers to reach many more investors. One of the first to harness the power of crowdfunding over the internet was the British rock band Marillion who, in 1996, raised USD 60,000 to finance their tour of the United States using crowdfunding in 1996. Since then, a lot has happened in terms of the number of crowdfunding products, platforms and the amount of money raised. The number of investors engaged in crowdfunding increases, and so too does the number of legislative initiatives and amount of research attention devoted to it. On 13 April 2021 we established the CLEAR research group at Aalborg University. The group has as its declared mission to undertake the study of legal phenomena in crowdfunding and to communicate relevant, research-based knowledge to actors in the field - investors, entrepreneurs, representatives from crowdfunding platforms, and public authorities. Collaboration is in the CLEAR group’s DNA. Hence, we asked a number of crowdfunding scholars and practitioners from around the world to provide us with their views on current legal issues pertaining to crowdfunding. We have held talks with numerous crowdfunding enthusiasts and practitioners and in the end, twelve authors decided to join us in our efforts to increase focus on legal research in crowdfunding through the publication of this special issue of Nordic Journal of Commercial Law. Knowing that the legal aspects of crowdfunding are many, and that crowdfunding and law as a research area is in its infancy, we thought it important to give each author free hands in choosing their topic and perspective in their article. Hence, you will find articles addressing a wide range of issues in crowdfunding in this special issue. I thank all authors for their thought-provoking contributions. Entre las primeras experiencias de financiación colectiva o crowdfunding moderno habría la campaña del 1997 del grupo de rock británico Marillion, que entonces pidió a sus fans donaciones, a través de internet, para sufragar la suya gira por los Estados Unidos. Desde aquellos tiempos, cuando el término crowdfunding no estaba todavía definido, las experiencias de financiación colectiva han cogido impulso y crecen cada año. Dos proyectos periodísticos recientes, con ciertos paralelismos entre sí, han utilizado el micromecenazgo para ver la luz. Se trata de Intifada Palestina 1988 y de Contra la neutralitat. Un periodisme de pau i de lluita.

The defeat of the national Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in June 1982 ended aperiod oforganized advocacy about women's formal political status. Policy analysts andresearchers subsequently identified numerous reasons for the national failure: fewstate organizations developed for the ratification campaign, lack of preparation foranti-ERA challenges in traditionally-oriented states, fears that the ERA wouldchange women's roles in the home, the unexpected legal benefits the SupremeCourt gave women during the 1970s without the ERA, and opponents' effectivelinkage, however false, of the ERA to legal abortion (Berry, 1988; Boles,1979,1982,1985,1989; Marilley, 1989).
