The paper presents new results of study of ceramics from the Volosovo culture sites located in the Middle Volga region which is important for research of the Volosovo culture. This synthesis-oriented research has found that straight and thick rims predominate among the early Volosovo ceramics. Vessel profiling is predominantly straight. The ornamented vessels account for a large percentage share of the found vessels, the decoration pattern is organized horizontally and vertically. The comb stamp imprints predominate as a decorative element. The calculations of the similarity coefficient for nine sites attributed to the Early Volosovo culture demonstrate that the highest similarity coefficients have been obtained for rim shapes and decorative pattern elements. The results of the technical and technological analysis also demonstrate standardization of the analyzed materials.

ABSTRACT Genomic imprinting at the Igf2/H19 locus originates from allele-specific DNA methylation, which modifies the affinity of some proteins for their target sequences. Here, we show that AT-rich DNA sequences located in the vicinity of previously characterized differentially methylated regions (DMRs) of the imprinted Igf2 gene are conserved between mouse and human. These sequences have all the characteristics of matrix attachment regions (MARs), which are known as versatile regulatory elements involved in chromatin structure and gene expression. Combining allele-specific nuclear matrix binding assays and real-time PCR quantification, we show that retention of two of these Igf2 MARs (MAR0 and MAR2) in the nuclear matrix fraction depends on the tissue and is specific to the paternal allele. Furthermore, on this allele, the Igf2 MAR2 is functionally linked to the neighboring DMR2 while, on the maternal allele, it is controlled by the imprinting-control region. Our work clearly demonstrates that genomic imprinting controls matrix attachment regions in the Igf2 gene.

The article draws on archival materials from the State Archive of the Mari El Republic and Central State Archive of the Kirov Region to study the emergence and development of the Mari regional organization of the RCP (B) in 1921–23. It is to analyze the process of formation of the Mari regional organization of the RCP (B) and to identify its specifics. The author sets himself two tasks: to clarify the features of the process of formation of the organization and the course of the intra-party conflict between “krasnokokshaytsy” and “kozmodemyantsy,” “local” and “appointees.” The novelty is determined by the fact that this is the first attempt since 1991 to analyze the process of formation of the Mari regional organization of the RCP (B). The research is written on archival material using principles of historicism and historical institutionalism. The Mari regional organization of the RCP (B) was formed in January 1921, shortly after the creation of the autonomous region. The first provisional bureau of the obkom and the revkom included the same people, producing a unified management system. This circumstance slowed down the formation of the party structures. The situation was aggravated by the fact that there were practically no industrial enterprises and corresponding infrastructure, and cultural level of the population was insufficient. The personnel shortage in the party and Soviet structures had its specifics: there were not enough trained Mari workers. However, circulars from the Central Committee demanded their engaging, as well as taking into account local specifics. In 1921–22, the situation in the party organizations worsened due to corrupting influence of the New Economic Policy, famine, and fires engulfing the region. Due to lack of educated, dedicated, and active communists, a huge responsibility fell on the local party elite from among the Mari intelligentsia. At the end of 1921, the “kozmodemyansky” conflict broke out, which nearly ended in armed clashes. The Central Committee intervened, sending party workers. Analysis of the process of formation of the Mari regional organization of the RCP (B) has shown that from its early days it faced great difficulties in its activities; in terms of social composition, it was a peasant organization. Ethno-cultural peculiarities of the region left an imprint on the relationships between the party members and caused conflicts. Overcoming them was hampered by arbitrariness of the “appointees,” as well as their resorting to repression and using contradictions between groups in their own interests.

René, William. "Polymères à empreintes ioniques fluorescents : un outil innovant pour la détection du plomb en milieu marin". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Toulon, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019TOUL0012.

Ion imprinted polymers (IIP) are highly cross-linked porous materials with specific recognition cavities of a target ion. Thus, this kind of materials shows high selectivity. This work focuses on the preparation of fluorescent ion-imprinted polymers specific to lead (11), i.e. capable of transforming the ion recognition into a fluorescence signal, for the detection of this contaminant in marine environment. ln a first step, the strategy adopted was to select and synthesise a fluorescent ligand, specific to lead (11) and t study and use it for the preparation of the polymers. This ligand was modified to produce a styrene type fluorescent monomer (ANQ-ST). An exaltation of the fluorescence signal of ANQ-ST was observed along with lead Il addition. The second ste was dedicated to the develo ment of the lead Il ion-im rinted ol mers. Various parameters were tested: polymerization solvants, nature of crosslinking agent (EGDMA and DVB) and ANQ-ST/crosslinker ratio (2 % and 5% molar). A diversified panel of characterization techniques allowed to study the polymer structures and to evidence the integration of the functional monomer ANQ-ST inside the polymer matrix. The last step consisted in evaluating the performances of the IIPs for the detection of lead (Il) by fluorescence. The polymers prepared with EGDMA and 5 % of functional monomer showed the best results For these polymers, IIPs' fluorescence intensity in the presence of lead (11) was almost not impacted by the addition of interfering ion species, unlike their non-imprinted analogs. These results highlight the effectiveness of the imprinting effect. Calibration curves were established in aqueous media at different pH and in different matrices. Those parameters did not have major influences. The limits of detection obtained are below the World Health Organization recommendation (10 µg.L-1 ). These results were successfully validated by the detection of lead in natural samples, includinçi tests in marine media

The purpose of this doctorate is to study the manuscripts and the prints of the Bible historiale, holy history written by Guyart des Moulins by the end of the XIIIth century from the Historia Scolastica by Petrus Comestor. The Bible historiale meets a great succeed during the XNth and XVth and we tried to collect ail the remaining manuscripts ail over the world -144 pieces. Proposais for classifications have been made to understand this production. By the end of the XVth century, the Bible historiale is printed by Antoine Vérard; then we get interested by the twenty-seven printed during the first half of the XVIth century. In the manuscripts and the prints, we get attached to Gomer, the wife of prophet Hosea, the first of the twelve Little Prophets of the Bible. A catalogue of her representations in the manuscripts of the Middle Age and in the prints of the first half of the XVIth century was established; it helps us to appreciate the importance of the Jerôme'comments in the representation of Gomer in the Bible historiale; the character is used to show first how fits the biblical kinship in the Bible, then to push up the cult of saint Anna and finally to contribute to promotion of the cult of Virgin Mary, by its participation to one of the most important quarrel of the time : the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, and by its valorization of the Christian "holy family"

A do-it-yourself manual for culturing nerve cells, complete with recipes and protocols. Because neurons and glia in culture are remarkably similar to those in situ, culture systems make it possible to identify significant cell interactions and to elucidate their mechanisms. This book is in many ways a do-it-yourself manual for culturing nerve cells, complete with recipes and protocols. But it also provides an understanding of the principles behind the protocols. In effect the contributors invite you into their labs and provide much of the information you would obtain from such a visit. The authors of the introductory chapters present the nuts-and-bolts principles of growing nerve cells. The authors of the following chapters discuss the culturing of specific cell types. They explain how their experimental goals have shaped their particular cell culture approach and the advantages and disadvantages of the cell culture systems they have developed. They provide detailed protocols and describe their cultures in practical terms, from when the cells are first plated through the various phases of their development. Resumo:
Working from a speculative, more-than-human ontological position, Inefficient Mapping: A Protocol for Attuning to Phenomena presents a new, experimental cartographic practice and non-representational methodological protocol that attunes to the subaltern genealogies of sites and places, proposing a wayfaring practice for traversing the land founded on an ethics of care. As a methodological protocol, inefficient mapping inscribes the histories and politics of a place by gesturally marking affective and relational imprints of colonisation, industrialisation, appropriation, histories, futures, exclusions, privileges, neglect, survival, and persistence. Inefficient Mapping details a research experiment and is designed to be taken out on mapping expeditions to be referred to, consulted with, and experimented with by those who are familiar or new to mapping. The inefficient mapping protocol described in this book is informed by feminist speculative and immanent theories, including posthuman theories, critical-cultural theories, Indigenous and critical place inquiry, as well as the works of Karen Barad, Erin Manning, Jane Bennett, Maria Puig de la Bellacassa, Elizabeth Povinelli, and Eve Tuck and Marcia McKenzie, which frame how inefficient mapping attunes to the matter, tenses, and ontologies of phenomena and how the interweaving agglomerations of theory, critique, and practice can remain embedded in experimental methodologies.

AbstractA typical cell contains two sets of chromosomes: one that was inherited from the mother, the other from the father. Usually, autosomal alleles are expressed at similar levels from the maternally and paternally inherited chromosomes. This chapter is dedicated to an exception of this rule: the expression of genes that are regulated by genomic imprinting depends on the parental origin of the allele, leading to the non-equivalence of maternal and paternal genomes. Genomic imprinting is a paradigm of epigenetic gene regulation as genetically identical alleles can exist in two expression states within the same nucleus. The imprints marking the parental alleles are established in the parental germline, maintained during the development of the offspring, but reset before they are passed on to the next generation. In mammals, the primary imprint is usually a differentially methylated region at the locus but there are also examples where histone modifications mark the parental alleles. Many imprinted genes play important roles for development and are associated with human disease. Interestingly, genomic imprinting evolved independently in mammals and seed plants and similar mechanisms have been recruited to regulate imprinted expression in the two kingdoms. We will discuss evolutionary constraints that could have led to the evolution of genomic imprinting in these seemingly disparate lineages.

This chapter shifts its focus to the ways in which media studies uses inscription by probing the imaginary at work in theoretical and artistic conceptualizations of visual media, especially photography. By tracing the vicissitudes of Peirce’s concept of indexicality in theories of visuality, it discusses how descriptions of the photographic act as a process of impression mediated by light have turned into metaphors of reception in which the luminous imprint of the photograph is “translated” into a violent contact with she who looks at a photograph. As this chapter investigates the various ways in which reflections on photography and poststructuralist theories of the image flatten and “translate” the material traces that produce the visual object in order to focus on its impact—figurative stings of visibility that point from the image to a viewer—it offers two literary and artistic counterpoints, two examples of the interaction of photography and text in the context of Chilean post-dictatorship art and literature, Diamela Eltit’s Lumpérica and Guadalupe Santa Cruz’s Quebrada.

Abstract With classical imprinting, parents transmit to their offspring chromatin marks carrying the stamp of the parent’s sex. The mark is usually transient, and is reversed in the next generation if it passes through the germ line of the opposite sex. Imprinting is therefore a rather special case of the transmission of epigenetic information between generations. A few cases in which a mark is transmitted in a sex-independent fashion and in a more permanent manner have been found with imprinted transgenes, but transgenes are in many ways atypical an’d differ from normal genes. To show that epigenetic inheritance can occur between generations and can have direct evolutionary significance, similar sex-independent and more permanent transmission must be found with normal genes.

Certain Lanna chronicles recount that the Buddha visited southeast Asia during his lifetime. He left strands of his hair and imprints of his feet for his devotees and made predictions about the future greatness of Lanna cities. These accounts depict Lanna places not as sites of Buddhist conquest or reform but as special places that through the ages have been sources of attraction and inspiration to multiple Buddhas. Lanna’s towns, lakes and hills play a distinctive role in Buddhist history as the channels that enable the ongoing agency of Buddhas. Buddha statues were created in these places to mark these channels that are crucial to the prosperity of the world. The relationship of Buddha to place echoes that depicted in classical Buddhist texts and is also found in the story of the Burmese Mahāmuni image. A Lanna story from Lampang also distinctively casts light on gender relations in Buddhism.

Abstract The preceding pages were designed to concentrate on process rather than outcome, for social movements generally leave their mark on the societies they aim to affect regardless of the measure of success in obtaining their goals. It is in the struggle to change their world that activists leave their imprint on their environment, and the learning curve of activists, sympathizers, and onlookers alike is dependent on any number of factors, only one of which is the relative degree of success in reaching stated objectives. Indeed, quick and easy achievements of ambitions and hopes may very well contribute to the rapid demise of a fledgling campaign before it can begin to affect substantial numbers of people.

Abstract Beckwith–Wiedemann syndrome (BWS) (OMIM 130650) is a dis-order of prenatal overgrowth, birth defects, and predisposition to cancer, and therefore of great interest in understanding embryogenesis and malignancy. BWS is also a paradigm to evaluate the role of epi-genetics, that is, heritable information not embodied within the DNA sequence itself. Genomic imprinting is a parent of origin-specifi c mark in the gamete, which leads to preferential expression of a specific parental allele in somatic cells of the offspring. Imprinted genes are often marked by differential DNA methylation of the two parental alleles. Through molecular characterization of BWS the fi rst epigenotype–phenotype relationship in human genetics has been described. Several genes in an imprinted genomic domain of 11p15 are involved in the dis-order, with insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) and H19 associated with cancer and p57KIP2 and long intronic transcript 1 (LIT1), an antisense RNA, linked to overgrowth and midline abdominal wall defects. There also are likely additional genes involved in the pathogenesis of BWS.
