The article substantiates the need to improve project management methods, which increases the efficiency of implementing organizational forms of construction management, as well as compliance with specifiedcosts and quality with full responsibility to the customer for the timely implementation of the investment construction project. The experience of domestic and foreign construction shows that organizational forms of constructionhave a significant impact on the effectiveness of capital construction. At the same time, specialization of construction can be attributed to the main areas.

Rationalization of methods for managing the construction process is impossible without finding the most effective forms of managing the promotion of products to the end consumer, the optimal organizational structure of production and technological systems, as well as developing an economic mechanism for distributing the results of joint activities. The article substantiates the need to improve project management methods, which increases the efficiency of the implementation of organizational forms of construction management, as well as compliance with the specified costs and quality with the full responsibility of the customer for the timely implementation of the investment and construction project.

Any economic system develops in the direction from a simple form of organization to a complex one. Integrated forms of organization make it possible to limit the harmful forms of competition for the business community. Analysis of contemporary science literature allowed the authors to reveal the lack of explanation of the essential reason for the existence of the nature of a firm. In integrated organizational forms, there is a partial replacement of competition relations with collaboration relations. The latter allow one to get additional synergistic effects. The successful implementation of this direction lies in the organizational forms of increasing the positive effect of regularity as consciously maintained proportionality. The positive effects of collaboration can be enhanced as a result of the formation of mechanisms by state institutions that allow creating institutional prerequisites to increase positive effects of the forms of business organization. In this article, collaboration is considered as a prerequisite for switching over to integrated organizational forms of management.

This dissertation develops a local-global theoretical perspective based on principles from cultural-cognitive institutional theory. Within this framework, the primary focus is the social construction of institutional logics and organizational forms in Sichuan, China's broader global environment. Institutional logics are defined as the taken-for-granted organizing principles that shape strategic action. It is asserted that these logics interact and become embedded in organizational forms centered on ownership structure and core technologies. During the fall of 2002, over one hundred interviews were conducted at the furniture, food processing, and pharmaceutical trade fairs in Chengdu. This data was used to examine China's societal logics in the context of the furniture industry and Chinese firms' diversification strategy. In addition, a case study of a textile firm is used to explore how China's societal logics have changed since the economic reforms began in the 1970s. Finally, correspondence analysis is used to map out the relationships between the institutional logics and the organizational forms.

This dissertation integrates economic and sociological approaches to network organizing to explain the structure and performance of network organizational forms. Previous theorizing from economics and sociology linked network organizational structure to "pairwise" or dyadic assessments of transaction efficiency and relational efficacy. Research based on these theories offered only partial understanding of network organizational performance because this work ignores the impact of multiple dyads interacting simultaneously, which occurs at the network level of analysis. This study integrates economic and sociological theories, treating them as interdependent explanations of network structure and performance. Theory is developed at the network level of analysis, which is necessary to explain the structure and performance of network organizations. Taking a network governance perspective, I formulate a theoretical model predicting the impact of exchange conditions upon the structure and performance of network organizations. I focus upon a specific variant of network organizations, "temporary interorganizational networks" (TINs), and develop and test hypotheses derived from transaction cost economics and from the sociological perspective focusing on relational embeddedness. I test these hypotheses by constructing a unique dataset containing comprehensive financial, organizational, and performance information regarding a population of network organizations during the years 2000-2007. Each observation in this dataset constitutes a network form designed to address a specific project, and these observations include both those networks that succeeded and those that failed. The study's design overcomes a limitation of prior cross-sectional analyses: Most prior analyses treat network ties as durable and assume that all ties add value to an organization. This assumption is challenged by empirical findings suggesting that the value of a relational tie decays rapidly with time. In contrast, the transient relationships common in TINS repeatedly form and dissolve over time. By observing both the formation and dissolution of ties and both successful and unsuccessful interorganizational networks, this study is among the first to test the full range of network organizational performance. My results indicate that exchange conditions significantly affect both the structure and performance of the network organizational form. Additionally, analyses reliably predict failure of the network form, which amends and extends prior theory.

Previous research has shown that Design Management contributes to the implementation of Total Quality Management (which in this study together with New Public Management is referred as Quality Management). The purpose of this study is to provide an increased scientific knowledge of the management forms Design Management and Quality Management, and their similarities. Through the knowledge of individuals, who have shared their experience of these management forms, the central parts of Design Management and Quality Management have been able to be identified and compared with theory and previous research. A qualitative method was chosen in this study to create an understanding and an interpretation of the informants’ experiences of the management forms. A total of eight interviews were conducted with informants who either research, work or teach Quality Management or Design Management. The result of this study showed that Design Management and Quality Management have many central parts in common, except for measurements which is only a central part of Quality Management. Central parts that are common in both Design Management and Quality Management are: values, leadership, culture, competence/employees, innovation, customers/users, quality and effectiveness. The analysis showed the most central part for both Design Management and Quality Management is their need to permeate the entire organization at all levels, the culture and the values held by them must be embraced by all employees in order for Quality Management and Design Management to be implemented. The authors hope that this study may increase an understanding for individuals and organizations who want to work with Quality Management or Design Management and for those who want to acquire more knowledge about these forms of management.

Huo, Yang Hwae. "Internal environment, organizational form and their impact on financial performance of hotel chains". Diss., Virginia Tech, 1994. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/40202.

Texto completo da fonte
Resumo:
The primary objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between internal environment, organizational form, and financial performance in hotel chains. Using a contingency framework, this study investigated the match between internal environmental factors--such as capital scarcity, monitoring cost, and asset specificity--and organizational form--such as company owned, franchised, or combination of both--in an attempt to distinguish between high and low performing hotel chains. The key findings of this study indicate that hotel chains which showed a "match" between the monitoring cost of their internal environmental factors and organizational form performed better than if those elements did not match. The other finding of this study indicates that hotel chains operating under different organizational forms, such as company-owned, franchised, and combination of both, did not differ in their financial performance levels which were measured in terms of return on investment and growth in unit sales. This study contributes to the body of knowledge in the lodging industry by introducing the contingency theory in investigating the interrelationship between internal environment, organizational form, and financial performance. In other words, this study utilized internal environmental factors such as capital scarcity, monitoring costs, and asset specificity as moderators in order to measure their impact on organizational forms and financial performance relationship. Specifically, this study provides unique ways to measure the internal environmental factors, organizational form, and financial performance: (1) capital scarcity was measured using financing activities data included in the statement cash flows, (2) organizational form of the firm was categorized into company-owned, franchised, and combination of both, and (3) financial performance was measured using return on investment (ROI) and growth in unit sales. From the industry point of view, the findings of this study will aid in recognizing organizational form in conjunction with internal environment and financial performance. This study provides empirical support with regard to the relative models in predicting appropriate organizational form that will show better financial performance. In other words, the firm that evaluates and analyzes its internal environmental factors could have the adequate organizational form that generates high profitability. From the theoretical point of view, this study provides a body of knowledge in franchising by providing empirical findings with regard to internal environmental factors in explaining the relationship between organizational form and financial performance. Furthermore, this study contributes to the existing agency theory literature in franchising by providing empirical research to the evaluative contingency theory.

AbstractThis concluding chapter draws together insights from the discipline-specific chapters to contrast and synthesise the diverse approaches to how the concept of paradata is conceptualised and used in the different cases covered in the volume “Perspectives to paradata”. Paradata as a concept that refers to process information resides firmly at the fringe of codified knowledge and organisational learning. Many different forms of information can function as paradata. There is a comparable variety in how the concept of paradata is understood. Due to the variety, having a unified definition can be debated. Major opportunities with paradata range from achieving reproducibility in data analysis and use and delivering the desired outcomes of the Open movement to increasing algorithmic and administrative accountability and transparency of artificial intelligence. However, transparency brought by paradata is not automatically virtuous. Paradata ethics and its relation to general information and knowledge management ethics is central to responsible use of paradata. Besides further inquiry into paradata concept, actual instances of paradata in the wild and how they are linked to social action, it is a key area that requires further research.

Abstract3D visualisation—be it computer graphic (re)construction or digitisation—has a long tradition in archaeology and cultural heritage; original research approaches, new methodologies, and theoretical frameworks have been developed; scholarly outputs in a range of forms have been published; teaching programmes have been designed; and an array of apparatuses, including organisations, consortia, projects, conferences, journals, and book series exclusively focusing on 3D, have been established. Despite all these, 3D scholarship is still faced with scepticism and hesitation, both due to constant changes in technology and the fragile ecosystem within which it is being developed, but also due to the technological authority, lack of standards, and its non-conventional nature that does not adhere to established academic norms. The development of charters and principles, such as the London and Seville Charters, which were developed to provide guidelines that tackle these issues, have been inconsistently addressed and rarely implemented. By looking back at the origins of paradata in heritage visualisation and the ways that three-dimensionality is perceived, captured, and interpreted in conventional archaeological practice, this chapter explores the variable and dialectic processes that take place at the trowel’s edge and the often neglected perceptual, physiological, and technical factors that influence knowledge production in the process of 3D (re)construction. The chapter argues that 3D scholarship requires a leap of faith and a rethinking of the ‘how, when, and why’ of paradata on a par with our better understanding of the complexity of and recent changes in digital scholarship.

This article is examining and determining the phenomenon of virtual cooperation in the industrial environment. Its goal is to research and find insights into whether virtual corporations are a viable alternative to classical and more traditional cooperation forms such as alliances, joint ventures and others. Virtual Enterprises (VEs) are and could be therefore a new organizational business concept to cope with actual and future challenges for companies in the globalization phases. This approach is based on merging all core competencies of a company in a network like organization. This seems to be a necessary response to deal with fast growing economies, fast changing conditions of certain markets and to become an agile reacting company in this environment.

Motivation has the potential to make a difference in terms of results both individually and organizationally. Motivation based on classical processes, such as the theory of hope, the theory of goal setting and the theory of equity. In the social context of governmental organizations, public values have the potential to infuse the value structures of organizations and individuals, leading to forms of prosocial motivation that focus on supporting the public interest and helping citizens. The management of human resources has evolved considerably since this function was named the Personnel Administration. Currently, organizations do not only manage resources, but focus in particular on the proper management of human capital. There are many aspects of human resources management, all of which are just as important for the development of an organization.

Safety in complex systems is produced by two complementary reservoirs: procedural compliance (the anticipation of potential hazards and implementation of procedures and other preventive barriers, also called “rule-based safety”) and initiative (the actions of competent front-line workers who react appropriately to conditions in real-time, also called “managed safety”). This document analyses the articulation between these two sources of safety, and the way in which it may evolve given changes in the industrial world and in societal expectations. It suggests moving past a view of these two forms of safety as alternatives which could only develop one at the expense of the other, to explore more complex forms of interaction, such as co-development or mutual reinforcement between procedural compliance and initiative. While the core of the debate on the relationship between compliance and initiative has so far focused on the work of frontline staff and the associated micro-centered compromises, this document also examines the decisions made across the entire management line up to the executive committee (the macro-centered compromises related to safety management and risk governance), as well as inter-organizational dimensions (impacts on relations with the safety authority, the judiciary, and civil society) and the resulting systemic issues (phenomena that emerge from the interaction between system components that are not visible when analyzing each component in isolation).

Silberstein, Jason. Should Communities Be Managing, Governing or Supporting Schools? A Review Essay on the System Conditions under Which Different Forms of Community Voice Can Improve Student Learning. There are many different potential roles that parents and communities can play within education systems. This essay reviews the different ways that parents and communities can exercise their individual and collective voice within local schools. It develops a typology to distinguish between three different forms of voice, and explores the enabling conditions in the wider system that each form of voice requires to improve student learning outcomes. The dominant form of voice in many current education systems is “school management”, which is commonly exercised through school management committees. The essay diagnoses how other parts of the system – the state, the bureaucracy, and teachers - have constrained school committees into playing a limited “school management” role. Because they are generally granted circumscribed responsibilities related to the day-to-day running of the school, school management committees have failed to make consistent, significant improvements to either school accountability or student learning. “School governance” is an alternative, stronger form of voice. “School governance” entails giving parents and community members greater latitude to determine the kind of education offered in local schools, somewhat analogous to how a board sets a vision and is owed justifications against results for major decisions made by an organization’s management. This would necessitate giving school governing bodies greater responsibility over setting the curriculum and choosing school leadership. Furthermore, since parents do not always or necessarily prioritize student learning from among other competing educational goals, focusing “school governance” on learning would also require strengthening the central state’s capacity to fulfill key responsibilities such as setting and measuring progress against learning standards. “School governance” would therefore face steep political and implementation challenges, and would have to be accompanied by parallel, government-led reform to other parts of the education system. The system conditions for parents and communities to play an effective “school governance” role are exacting. “School support” is a more modest but potentially more workable form of voice in many current systems. Where “school management” and “school governance” ask parents and communities to hold local schools accountable, the “school support” paradigm emphasizes actions that individual parents and community members can take in collaboration with teachers to directly support children’s learning. However, there are many cases where more parent and community involvement is not necessarily better. Parents and community members need specific, structured opportunities that complement good teaching in the classroom for “school support” to translate into improved learning outcomes.

In a world exposed to uncertainty and upsets, the development of organizational resilience is often proposed to improve performance. Intended as a complement – but also sometimes as a counterpoint – to management approaches based on anticipation and preparedness, resilience-based approaches aim to improve the ability of professionals to react in an opportune manner to extraordinary and unexpected situations. Despite increasing interest for this change in paradigm, few concrete case studies have been documented. The work presented in this document explores the possibilities offered by new training modalities, for and using resilience, which aim to improve the ability of professionals to produce safety in work situations. The work is part of a research project called FOResilience, led by Simon Flandin and Germain Poizat at the University of Geneva, which was partially funded by the FonCSI. Three characteristics of the authors’ approach are worth emphasizing: - They adopt a broad definition of “training”, which includes professional development activities and organizational interventions, with a particular interest for methods that differ from classical classroom-based training, such as crisis exercises, discussion forums, coaching, and collective analysis of work situations. - They are more interested in activities and methods that develop professionals’ ability to interpret ambiguous situations and to act and cooperate in unexpected or critical situations, than in activities that promote a quasi-mechanical execution of a procedure or deployment of a pre-established plan. - They see safety as resulting as much from the daily work activities that develop professionals’ ability to act in appropriate ways in a constantly evolving context, as from the initial safe system design and careful implementation of operating procedures that cover all possible situations. Two families of training/intervention methods are analyzed: - Methods that develop proactivity in routine situations, the daily activities that create conditions which are favourable to safe operations. These include different forms of discussion between professionals that aim to improve the shared understanding of goal conflicts, of the decisions and compromises made, the difficulties encountered (such as procedures that are inappropriate in certain situations) and improvement opportunities. - Methods that encourage reactivity in extraordinary or critical situations and the ability to bounce back after a critical organizational upset. These include various simulation-based methods, such as crisis exercises, though designed to improve the ability of professionals to make sense of and react in appropriate ways to unexpected events, rather than the classical objective of exercises to check correct execution of a predefined plan.

The Polish film system is characterized by a variety of forms. Michał Zabłocki, the author of the comprehensive study of the «Organization of the production of feature film in Poland», isolates two models of world cinema: a producer and a producer – director. The first one features the dominant role of the producer, which means the person who is responsible for the work of all the film departments – direction, cinematography, production management, scenography and costume design. The second one, the model which is still the most popular in Poland, assumes close cooperation between the producer and the director.

The paper examines how corporate social responsibility and corporate governance systems affect the wellbeing of East European countries. Corporate governance is the system of forms and methods used for a company's governance. Inspecting the relationship between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility considers the opinions of different stakeholders about the development and administration of a company's portfolio. A wide range of scientific publications define and study theoretically the issues surrounding corporate governance structure, models, control, audit system, and management quality inside the organization. Businesses that practice corporate social responsibility make a deliberate effort to conduct their operations in a way that improves society and the environment rather than degrades it. In addition to enhancing societal aspects, corporate social responsibility can assist businesses in projecting a positive image in the improvement of other environmental issues in East European countries. ‍
