Abstract Sub-Neptunes with radii of 2–3 R ⊕ are intermediate in size between rocky planets and Neptune-sized planets. The orbital properties and bulk compositions of transiting sub-Neptunes provide clues to the formation and evolution of close-in small planets. In this paper, we present the discovery and follow-up of four sub-Neptunes orbiting M dwarfs (TOI-782, TOI-1448, TOI-2120, and TOI-2406), three of which were newly validated by ground-based follow-up observations and statistical analyses. TOI-782 b, TOI-1448 b, TOI-2120 b, and TOI-2406 b have radii of R p = 2.740 − 0.079 + 0.082 R ⊕ , 2.769 − 0.068 + 0.073 R ⊕ , 2.120 ± 0.067 R ⊕, and 2.830 − 0.066 + 0.068 R ⊕ and orbital periods of P = 8.02, 8.11, 5.80, and 3.08 days, respectively. Doppler monitoring with the Subaru/InfraRed Doppler instrument led to 2σ upper limits on the masses of <19.1 M ⊕, <19.5 M ⊕, <6.8 M ⊕, and <15.6 M ⊕ for TOI-782 b, TOI-1448 b, TOI-2120 b, and TOI-2406 b, respectively. The mass–radius relationship of these four sub-Neptunes testifies to the existence of volatile material in their interiors. These four sub-Neptunes, which are located above the so-called “radius valley,” are likely to retain a significant atmosphere and/or an icy mantle on the core, such as a water world. We find that at least three of the four sub-Neptunes (TOI-782 b, TOI-2120 b, and TOI-2406 b), orbiting M dwarfs older than 1 Gyr, are likely to have eccentricities of e ∼ 0.2–0.3. The fact that tidal circularization of their orbits is not achieved over 1 Gyr suggests inefficient tidal dissipation in their interiors.

We construct a renormalizable [Formula: see text] model with [Formula: see text] symmetry accommodating the observed pattern of fermion masses and mixings with Dirac CP violation phase. The smallness of the active neutrino masses arises from a combination of type I and type II seesaw mechanisms. Both normal and inverted neutrino mass ordering are viable in our model in which the obtained physical observables of the lepton sector are well consistent with the global fit of neutrino oscillation data [P. F. de Salas et al., Phys. Lett. B 782, 633 (2018)] while the CKM matrix is unity at tree level and the quark masses are in good agreement with the experimental data [Particle Data Group (M. Tanabashi et al.), Phys. Rev. D 98, 030001 (2018)]. Furthermore, the model also predicts an effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of [Formula: see text] eV for normal hierarchy and [Formula: see text] for inverted hierarchy which are consistent with the constraints given in [P. F. de Salas et al., Phys. Lett. B 782, 633 (2018)].

ABSTRACT Introduction Every patient needs a comprehensive treatment planning. Dentists must consider the advantages and disadvantages of the available implant prosthetic options and match them to patient's expectations. Hybrid denture prosthesis is one, i.e., fabricated and retained by screw threaded into implant abutments, most of the time on four implants. Sometimes due to failure of an implant, the prosthesis needs to be replaced with a newer casting to accommodate the existing implants. Clinical consideration This article presents a novel technique, wherein the existing framework of the fixed prosthesis can be used to convert the fixed prosthesis to removable prosthesis on the existing implants, without recasting. Clinical significance The implant is economical and easily convertible from a fixed-fixed to a fixed-removable prosthesis. Hence, there is reduced morbidity, reduced cost, and an increased psychological comfort for the patient. How to cite this article Shetty PP, Gangaiah M, Chowdhary R. Megophrys Kuhl and Van Hasselt are an Asian radiation of terrestrial frogs which are usually associated with montane forest (Mahony et al. 2017). The Annam horned frog (Megophrys intermedia) is reported from montane evergreen forest in Vietnam and Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Stuart 2005; Hendrix et al. 2008; Nguyen et al. 2009; Tran 2013; Orlov et al. 2015; IUCN 2017; Mahony et al. 2017). The IUCN Red List assessment for the species reports an elevational range of 782–1500 m asl (IUCN 2017) although the type locality was reported to be above 1500 m asl (Smith 1921), and Tran (2013) collected a specimen at 1515 m asl. Megophrys intermedia is assessed as Least Concern (IUCN 2017) and little is known about the reproductive behaviour and life history of the species. In Lam Dong Province (Vietnam), male M. intermedia call in March (Tran 2013); on the Langbian Plateau (Vietnam), male specimens are reported to call by day and by night from March to May and specimens called from within deep crevices between boulders in streams (Smith 1921); in Xe Kong Province (Laos), males call or guard egg clutches that are laid in water in July (Stuart 2005).

ABSTRACT The FoxO forkhead transcription factors FoxO4 (AFX), FoxO3a (FKHR.L1), and FoxO1a (FKHR) represent important physiological targets of phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (PKB) signaling. Overexpression or conditional activation of FoxO factors is able to antagonize many responses to constitutive PI3K/PKB activation including its effect on cellular proliferation. It was previously shown that the FoxO-induced cell cycle arrest is partially mediated by enhanced transcription and protein expression of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p27kip1 (R. H. Medema, G. J. Kops, J. L. Bos, and B. M. Burgering, Nature 404:782-787, 2000). Here we have identified a p27kip1-independent mechanism that plays an important role in the antiproliferative effect of FoxO factors. Forced expression or conditional activation of FoxO factors leads to reduced protein expression of the D-type cyclins D1 and D2 and is associated with an impaired capacity of CDK4 to phosphorylate and inactivate the S-phase repressor pRb. Downregulation of D-type cyclins involves a transcriptional repression mechanism and does not require p27kip1 function. Ectopic expression of cyclin D1 can partially overcome FoxO factor-induced cell cycle arrest, demonstrating that downregulation of D-type cyclins represents a physiologically relevant mechanism of FoxO-induced cell cycle inhibition.

This study examined the relationship of sports experience with ego development. A questionnaire was used to assess experience of Crisis, Exploration, and Commitment in the issues of Athletic Performance and of Being a Teammate in 782 adolescent Japanese athletes (423 boys, M age = 15.2 yr.; 359 girls, M age = 15.0 yr.). Their Ego Levels were assessed using the Washington University Sentence Completion Test. Correlations indicated that scores on Crisis, Exploration, and Commitment in the issues of Athletic Performance and Being a Teammate were generally associated with Ego Development. Multiple regression analyses indicated that, for boys, the issue of Athletic Performance was closely associated with Ego Development, while for girls, the issue of Being a Teammate was closely associated with Ego Development. Sports experience with crisis, exploration, and commitment may be related to accommodation, which is, in turn, related to ego development. The sex differences on issues related to ego development may be associated with differences in sex-role development for boys and girls.

AbstractAnthracycline-based chemotherapy is associated with increased subsequent breast cancer (SBC) risk in female childhood cancer survivors, but the current evidence is insufficient to support early breast cancer screening recommendations for survivors treated with anthracyclines. In this study, we pooled individual patient data of 17,903 survivors from six well-established studies, of whom 782 (4.4%) developed a SBC, and analyzed dose-dependent effects of individual anthracycline agents on developing SBC and interactions with chest radiotherapy. A dose-dependent increased SBC risk was seen for doxorubicin (hazard ratio (HR) per 100 mg m−2: 1.24, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.18–1.31), with more than twofold increased risk for survivors treated with ≥200 mg m−2 cumulative doxorubicin dose versus no doxorubicin (HR: 2.50 for 200–299 mg m−2, HR: 2.33 for 300–399 mg m−2 and HR: 2.78 for ≥400 mg m−2). For daunorubicin, the associations were not statistically significant. Epirubicin was associated with increased SBC risk (yes/no, HR: 3.25, 95% CI: 1.59–6.63). For patients treated with or without chest irradiation, HRs per 100 mg m−2 of doxorubicin were 1.11 (95% CI: 1.02–1.21) and 1.26 (95% CI: 1.17–1.36), respectively. Our findings support that early initiation of SBC surveillance may be reasonable for survivors who received ≥200 mg m−2 cumulative doxorubicin dose and should be considered in SBC surveillance guidelines for survivors and future treatment protocols.

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of high-level competition on salivary free cortisol, countermovement jump (CMJ), and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and the relationships between these fatigue indicators in a group of elite middle- and long-distance runners.Method:The salivary free cortisol levels and CMJ height of 10 high-level middle- and long-distance runners (7 men, 3 women; age 27.6 ± 5.1y) competing in 800-m, 1500-m, 3000-m, or 5000-m events in the 2013 Spanish National Championships were measured throughout a 4-wk baseline period, then again before and after their respective races on the day of the competition. Athletes’ RPE was also measured after their races. Results:Cortisol increased significantly after the race compared with the value measured 90 min before the race (+98.3%, g = 0.82, P < .05), while CMJ height decreased significantly after the race (–3.9%, g = 0.34, P < .05). The decrease in CMJ height after the race correlates significantly with the postcompetition cortisol increase (r = .782, P < .05) and the RPE assessment (r = .762, P < .01).Conclusions:Observed differences in CMJ height correlate significantly with salivary free cortisol levels and RPE of middle- and long-distance runners. These results show the suitability of the CMJ for monitoring multifactorial competition responses in high-level middle- and long-distance runners.

(1) Background: Lower extremity microvascular reconstruction aims at restoring function and preventing infection while ensuring optimal cosmetic outcomes. Muscle (M) or fasciocutaneous (FC) free flaps are alternatively used to treat similar conditions. However, it is unclear whether one option might be considered superior in terms of clinical outcomes. We performed a meta-analysis of studies comparing M and FC flaps to evaluate this issue. (2) Methods: The PRISMA guidelines were followed to perform a systematic search of the English literature. We included all articles comparing M and FC flap reconstructions for lower limb soft tissue defects following trauma, infection, or tumor resection. We considered flap loss, postoperative infection, and donor site morbidity as primary outcomes. Secondary outcomes included minor recipient site complications and the need for revision surgery. (3) Results: A total of 10 articles involving 1340 patients receiving 1346 flaps were retrieved, corresponding to 782 M flaps and 564 FC flaps. The sizes of the studies ranged from 39 to 518 patients. We observed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) in terms of donor site morbidity and total flap loss with better outcomes for FC free flaps. Moreover, the majority of authors preferred FC flaps because of the greater aesthetic satisfaction and lesser rates of postoperative infection. (4) Conclusion: Our data suggest that both M and FC free flaps are safe and effective options for lower limb reconstruction following trauma, infection, or tumor resection, although FC flaps tend to provide stronger clinical benefits. Further research should include larger randomized studies to confirm these data.

INTRODUCTION: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are increasing as the main cause of death, disability, unproductivity and indisposition in Ethiopia.OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to establish healthcare professionals’ perception on non-communicable disease risk factors and their regional distribution in Ethiopia.METHODS: A mixed method sequential explanatory design was conducted with a questionnaire survey obtaining quantitative replies from 312 healthcare professionals working in 13 referral hospitals in the first phase and qualitative data among 13 hospital managers in the second phase.RESULTS: Statistically significant prevalence of NCDs risk factors were reported with the lack of physical exercise (M=4.94, SD=.245, t (311) = 139.383; p < .0005), hypertension (M=4.89, SD=.312, t (311) = 107.021; p < .0005), and unhealthy diet (M=4.61, SD=.782, t (311) = 36.426; p < .0005) ranking as the top three leading NCDs risk factors. The prevalence and distribution of NCDs risk factors varied within Ethiopia, with a high perceived prevalence of lack of physical exercise, unhealthy diet, alcohol use, and blood glucose in Addis Ababa city followed by Amhara region. A high prevalence of tobacco use and hypertension was also observed in the regions of Benishangul Gumuz.CONCLUSION: The results revealed that the prevalence of NCDs risk factors are increasing in different regions of Ethiopia. Regionally specific non-communicable disease intervention strategies are required to revert the growing burden of the risk factors effectively.

AbstractThis study uses snow events from the Biogenic Aerosols–Effects on Clouds and Climate (BAECC) 2014 campaign to investigate the connection between properties of snow and radar observations. The general hydrodynamic theory is applied to video-disdrometer measurements to retrieve masses of falling ice particles. Errors associated with the observation geometry and the measured particle size distribution (PSD) are addressed by devising a simple correction procedure. The value of the correction factor is determined by comparison of the retrieved precipitation accumulation with weighing-gauge measurements. Derived mass–dimensional relations are represented in the power-law form m = . It is shown that the retrieved prefactor am and exponent bm react to changes in prevailing microphysical processes. From the derived microphysical properties, event-specific relations between the equivalent reflectivity factor Ze and snowfall precipitation rate S (Ze = ) are determined. For the studied events, the prefactor of the Ze–S relation varied between 53 and 782 and the exponent was in the range of 1.19–1.61. The dependence of the factors azs and bzs on the m(D) relation and PSD are investigated. The exponent of the Ze–S relation mainly depends on the exponent of the m(D) relation, whereas the prefactor azs depends on both the intercept parameter N0 of the PSD and the prefactors of the m(D) and υ(D) relations. Changes in azs for a given N0 are shown to be linked to changes in liquid water path, which can be considered to be a proxy for degree of riming.

AbstractWe evaluated the efficacy of fipronil baits in suppressing or eliminating field colonies of Microtermes mycophagus (Desneux) (Blattodea: Termitidae) an important subterranean termite pest in Pakistan. We tested two doses (10 and 30 ppm) of fipronil in toilet paper baits, chosen from laboratory repellency tests. We monitored four colonies for foraging activity for one month before baiting, and mapped foraging territories with termites marked with Nile Blue A and agonistic tests. Before the fipronil baits were installed there were averages of 782–1938 workers and soldiers per bait station in the four colonies. After baiting, the colonies were eliminated as there were no workers per bait station, whereas the control colony had an average of 1142 workers per bait station. The three possibly eliminated colonies consumed around 47 mg of fipronil formulation (4.7 mg active ingredient) in 45–90 days. Our results suggest that baits containing fipronil could provide an economical and feasible alternative for the management of M. mycophagus in structures and buildings in Pakistan.

Abstract In this study, fore reef coral communities were exposed to high pCO2 for a year to explore the relationship between net accretion (Gnet) and community structure (planar area growth). Coral reef communities simulating the fore reef at 17-m depth on Mo’orea, French Polynesia, were assembled in three outdoor flumes (each 500 l) that were maintained at ambient (396 µatm), 782 µatm, and 1434 µatm pCO2, supplied with seawater at 300 l h−1, and exposed to light simulating 17-m depth. The communities were constructed using corals from the fore reef, and the responses of massive Porites spp., Acropora spp., and Pocillopora verrucosa were assessed through monthly measurements of Gnet and planar area. High pCO2 depressed Gnet but did not affect colony area by taxon, although the areas of Acropora spp. and P. verrucosa summed to cause multivariate community structure to differ among treatments. These results suggest that skeletal plasticity modulates the effects of reduced Gnet at high pCO2 on planar growth, at least over a year. The low sensitivity of the planar growth of fore reef corals to the effects of ocean acidification (OA) on net calcification supports the counterintuitive conclusion that coral community structure may not be strongly affected by OA.

Abstract Introduction: Despite significant progress, the genetic role of regulatory elements in gene expression is still poorly understood in prostate cells. Recent development in single cell sequencing by combining ATAC-seq and RNA-seq has made it possible to determine genome-wide linkages between chromatin accessibilities and gene expression. Methods: To test the feasibility of using single cell multiome sequencing in dissecting regulatory linkages between chromatin accessibilities and gene expressions, we applied 10X Genomics Chromium Single Cell Multiome ATAC + Gene Expression platform to simultaneously encapsulate Tn5 transposase tagged nuclei from two prostate cell lines. We applied down-sampling linkage analysis to determine highly reproducible genome-wide associations between ATAC-seq peaks and RNA-seq gene expressions. To investigate the chromatin accessibilities related to human transcription factor binding sites, we scanned the JASPAR motif collection with genome-wide Tn5 insertion analysis. Results: This study encapsulated 3,096 multiome RWPE-1 nuclei cultured in serum-free condition, 6,978 and 8,487 multiome LNCaP nuclei treated with methanol (LNCaP-M) or dihydrotestosterone (DHT, LNCaP-D). Our analysis captured 210,990, 264,802, and 278,154 ATAC-seq peaks from RWPE-1, LNCaP-M, and LNCaP-D by macs2 narrow peak model (FDR q&lt;0.01), which included over 90% peaks identified by bulk ATAC-seq datasets. Through downsampling linkage analysis, we identified 1,595, 2,507, and 4,183 linkage associations between ATAC-seq and RNA-seq from the above three experiments, respectively. Scatter plots showed that the correlation coefficient of the linkage association was negatively associated with the distance between ATAC-seq and RNA-seq signals. By comparing to bulk ChIP-seq data from RWPE-1 cells, we confirmed that the single cell ATAC-seq peaks in linkages were co-localized at histone modified regions, including H3K4me1 (25.7%), H3K27ac (14.3%), and H3K4me3 (4.9%). JASPAR database (634 motifs) search found that the Tn5 footprints surrounding AR, NR3C1, and NR3C2 motifs in LNCaP-D showed significantly higher enrichment than that of the LNCaP-M group, indicating increased androgen receptor DNA binding following DHT treatment. Interestingly, in RWPE-1 cells harboring TP53 p.P72R polymorphism (rs1042522), we found differential Tn5 footprints surrounding TP53 binding motif between its ATAC-seq subclusters at whole genome scale. Conclusion: Our preliminary data in prostate cell lines outlined a regulatory landscape of single-cell resolution. Multiomic single cell sequencing will help locate regulatory elements and target genes. Citation Format: Yijun Tian, Alex Soupir, Liang Wang. We investigate the geometry of closed, orientable, hyperbolic 3-manifolds whose fundamental groups are [Formula: see text]-free for a given integer [Formula: see text]. We show that any such manifold [Formula: see text] contains a point [Formula: see text] with the following property: If [Formula: see text] is the set of maximal cyclic subgroups of [Formula: see text] that contain non-trivial elements represented by loops of [Formula: see text], then for every subset [Formula: see text], we have rank [Formula: see text]. This generalizes to all [Formula: see text] results proved in [J. W. Anderson, R. D. Canary, M. Culler and P. B. Shalen, Free Kleinian groups and volumes of hyperbolic 3-manifolds, J. Differential Geom. 43 (1996) 738–782; M. Culler and P. B. Shalen, 4-free groups and hyperbolic geometry, J. Topol. 5 (2012) 81–136], which have been used to relate the volume of a hyperbolic manifold to its topological properties, and it strictly improves on the result obtained in [R. K. Guzman, Hyperbolic 3-manifolds with [Formula: see text]-free fundamental group, Topology Appl. 173 (2014) 142–156] for [Formula: see text]. The proof avoids the use of results about ranks of joins and intersections in free groups that were used in [M. Culler and P. B. Shalen, 4-free groups and hyperbolic geometry, J. ABSTRACT A neuron has two types of highly polarized cell processes, the single axon and multiple dendrites. One of the fundamental questions of neurobiology is how neurons acquire such specific and polarized morphologies. During neuronal development, various actin-binding proteins regulate dynamics of actin cytoskeleton in the growth cones of developing axons. The regulation of actin cytoskeleton in the growth cones is thought to be involved in axon outgrowth and axon-dendrite specification. However, it is largely unknown which actin-binding proteins are involved in axon-dendrite specification and how they are transported into the developing axons. We have previously reported that collapsin response mediator protein 2 (CRMP-2) plays a critical role in axon outgrowth and axon-dendrite specification (N. Inagaki, K. Chihara, N. Arimura, C. Menager, Y. Kawano, N. Matsuo, T. Nishimura, M. Amano, and K. Kaibuchi, Nat. Neurosci. 4:781-782, 2001). Here, we found that CRMP-2 interacted with the specifically Rac1-associated protein 1 (Sra-1)/WASP family verprolin-homologous protein 1 (WAVE1) complex, which is a regulator of actin cytoskeleton. The knockdown of Sra-1 and WAVE1 by RNA interference canceled CRMP-2-induced axon outgrowth and multiple-axon formation in cultured hippocampal neurons. We also found that CRMP-2 interacted with the light chain of kinesin-1 and linked kinesin-1 to the Sra-1/WAVE1 complex. The knockdown of CRMP-2 and kinesin-1 delocalized Sra-1 and WAVE1 from the growth cones of axons. These results suggest that CRMP-2 transports the Sra-1/WAVE1 complex to axons in a kinesin-1-dependent manner and thereby regulates axon outgrowth and formation.

Abstract The relationship between immune responses to hepatitis A virus (HAV) and the clinical manifestation of HAV infection have been obscured. We investigated the clinical manifestation of acute hepatitis A (AHA) and the relationship between HAV-specific, IFN-gamma-producing T cell response and clinical outcomes in patients with AHA. We analyzed 770 patients diagnosed with AHA for their clinical manifestation. Among them, 128 patients with a prothrombin time (PT) of less than 40% of normal were classified as “severe acute hepatitis (s-AH)”. Others were defined as having “mild acute hepatitis (m-AH)”. In 110 patients, direct ex vivo IFN-gamma ELISpot assays were performed with peripheral blood mononuclear cells using HAV proteins. Mean values of serum HAV RNA at admission were 4.79 log10 copies/ml in s-AH, and 3.30 log10 copies/ml in m-AH (P = 0.003). Viral load showed a significant correlation with ALT (r = 0.417, P = 0.0032) and PT levels (r = -0.453, P = 0.0012). In addition, the mean frequencies of IFN-gamma-producing T cells against VP1-2A (aa 669-782), and 2C(aa 1121-1234) proteins were significantly lower in patients with s-AH, compared to patients with m-AH (3.3 vs. 17.7, P &lt; 0.001; 2.1 vs. 13.3, P &lt; 0.001). In view of viral factors, the load of HAV is closely correlated with liver damage and disease severity in patients with AHA. As a host factor, HAV-specific, IFN-gamma-producing T cells might induce effective viral eradication and result in mild hepatitis

Three components of dispersal important to the colonization of a soil matrix by fungal parasites of sclerotia were identified and measured: the percentage of the carrier granules from which hyphae extended into soil (PGH), the mean number of hyphae extending into soil from each granule (MNH), and the mean length of the hyphae extending into soil (MLH). Factors that influence dispersal were determined for strains of Gliocladium roseum, Thielavia terricola, and Trichoderma spp. The source of carbon, the source of nitrogen, and the C:N ratio of the carrier substrate significantly (p = 0.001) affected all three components of dispersal subsequent to the placement of the carrier granules in nonsterile soil. Increased C:N ratio (12:1 to 80:1) and increased molar concentrations of both carbon and nitrogen sources (0.02 to 0.18 M maltose and 0.006 to 0.024 M arginine) gave increased PGH (17 to 82%), MNH (1 to 5 hyphae per granule), and MLH (275 to 782 μm in 24 h) for G. roseum. Similar increases in PGH (80 to 100%), MNH (5 to 10 hyphae per granule), and MLH (983 μm to too long and interwoven to measure after 24 h) were observed for Th. terricola. PGH and MNH were greater at high soil moistures (−0.1 and −0.33 bars matric potential; 1 bar = 100 kPa) than at low soil moisture (−10 bars).

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) form a convenient structural series of molecules with which to examine the selectivity exerted on their removal by soil microbiota. It is known that there is an inverse relationship between PAH molecular size and degradation rates in soil. In this paper, we look at how the magnitude of the slope for this relationship, m, can be used as an indicator of the effect of metal co-contaminants on degradation rates across a range of PAH molecular weights. The analysis utilises data collected from our previous microcosm study (Deary, M.E.; Ekumankama, C.C.; Cummings, S.P. Development of a novel kinetic model for the analysis of PAH biodegradation in the presence of lead and cadmium co-contaminants. Journal of Hazard Materials 2016, 307, 240–252) in which we followed the degradation of the 16 US EPA PAHs over 40 weeks in soil microcosms taken from a high organic matter content woodland soil. The soil was amended with a PAH mixture (total concentration of 2166 mg kg−1) and with a range of metal co-contaminant concentrations (lead, up to 782 mg kg−1; cadmium up to 620 mg kg−1; and mercury up to 1150 mg kg−1). It was found that the magnitude of m increases in relation to the applied concentration of metal co-contaminant, indicating a more adverse effect on microbial communities that participate in the removal of higher molecular weight PAHs. We conclude that m is a useful parameter by which we might measure the differential effects of environmental contaminants on the PAH removal. Such information will be useful in planning and implementing remediation strategies.

A new species of freshwater crab, Fredius ibiapaba, is described and illustrated from a mid-altitude forested patch in Ipú (Ibiapaba plateau, Ceará, northeastern Brazil), between 635 to 782 m. The new species can be separated from its congeners by the morphology of its first gonopod: proximal half remarkably swollen, sloping abruptly downwards distally to a nearly right-angular shoulder; mesial lobe much smaller than cephalic spine; cephalic lobe moderately developed; auxiliary lobe lip, delimiting field of apical spines, protruded all the way to distal margin of auxiliary lobe. Comparative 16S rDNA sequencing used to infer the phylogenetic placement of Fredius ibiapaba n. sp. revealed that it is the sister taxon of F. reflexifrons, a species which occurs allopatrically in the Amazon and Atlantic basin’s lowlands (<100 m). Fredius ibiapaba n. sp. and F. reflexifrons are highly dependent upon humidity and most probably were once part of an ancestral population living in a wide humid territory. Shrinking humid forests during several dry periods of the Tertiary and Quaternary likely have resulted in the fragmentation of the ancestral humid area and hence of the ancestral crab population. Fredius reflexifrons evolved and spread in a lowland, humid river basin (Amazon and Atlantic basins), whilst F. ibiapaba n. sp. evolved isolated on the top of a humid plateau. The two species are now separated by a vast intervening area occupied by the semiarid Caatinga

Modal frequency is an important indicator reflecting the health status of a structure. Numerous investigations have shown that its fluctuations are related to the changing environmental factors. Thus, modelling the modal frequency–multiple environmental factors relation is essential for making reliable inference in structural health monitoring. In this study, the Bayesian network (BN)-based algorithm is developed for recognizing the pattern between modal frequency and multiple environmental factors. Different candidates of network structure of the BN are proposed to describe the possible statistical relations of different variables. In the BN-based pattern recognition, the learning phase conducts uncertainty quantification in both parameter and model levels; and the prediction phase makes inference under complete and incomplete observed information. Based on the long-term monitoring data, the most plausible network structure is selected, and its associated parameters are identified. The developed algorithm is then utilized for analyzing the long-term monitoring data (modal frequencies, temperature, humidity, wind speed and traffic volume) of the Xinguang Bridge (a 782-m three-span half-through arch bridge). It turns out that the selected network structure properly captures the pattern of modal frequency–multiple environmental factors.

Environmental conditions in the Pannonian zone can be characterized with moderate high temperature and partially water deficit during grain filling of spring barley, although low temperature and water deficit are possible also in period till anthesis. This study was conducted to evaluate the variation of the duration of the period from emergence to anthesis (VP), duration of grain filling period (GFP), plant height (PH), spikes number m-2 (SN), grains number spike-1 (GN), thousand grains weight (GW) and yield (YIL) in spring two-rowed barley in conditions of the Pannonian zone. All three factors; genotype, environment and the interaction GxY affected the studied traits. Average VP was 777 GDD, GFP 782 GDD, PH 78 cm, SN 523, GN 28.2, GW 43.2 g and YIL 6.26 t ha-1. Variation across varieties was higher than across growing seasons. Heritability varied from 0.66 for YIL to 0.94 for VP and GFP. This study confirmed that a sufficiently large genetic variability must be base for selecting appropriate varieties for the Pannonian zone conditions. In order to determine high yielding and quality barley extensive research in relation to breeding, variety choice for production and growing practice must be done.

We suggest a renormalizable standard model (SM) extension based on [Formula: see text] symmetry which accommodates leptonic mass and mixing parameters with nonzero [Formula: see text] and Dirac CP violating phase. Both normal and inverted neutrino mass ordering as well as the smallness of the active neutrino masses are generated at leading order through type-I seesaw mechanism in which the obtained physical parameters are well consistent with the global fit of neutrino oscillation data [P. F. de Salas et al., Phys. Lett. B 782, 633 (2018)], while the quark masses are in good agreement with the recent experimental data [Particle Data Group (M. Tanabashi et al.), Phys. Rev. D 98, 030001 (2018)]. The model also predicts an effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of [Formula: see text] for normal hierarchy and [Formula: see text] for inverted hierarchy which are all well below the most current upper limit given [P. [3-14C]acetoacetate (AcAc) and beta-[3-14C]hydroxybutyrate (beta-OHB) administration, measurements of labeled AcAc and beta-OHB in blood, and kinetic modeling have been used to investigate ketone body (KB) metabolism in five normal, five obese, and eight insulin-withdrawn diabetic subjects. Diabetic subjects were divided in mildly ketotic (MKD) and highly ketotic (HKD) patients according to beta-OHB blood level. A four-compartmental model successfully described the tracer kinetic data in obese and normal subjects, whereas in diabetic patients a five-compartmental model was necessary. Obese subjects showed a significantly lower (P less than 0.05) KB de novo synthesis (R30 = 159 +/- 54 (SD) mumol X min-1 X m-2) in comparison with normal subjects (282 +/- 93), but the clearance rates of AcAc (PCR1) and beta-OHB (PCR2) were similar in the two groups. R30 was 596 +/- 534 in MKD and 1,278 +/- 445 (P less than 0.01) in HKD. PCR1 was not significantly different both in MKD and HKD in comparison with normal subjects. In contrast PCR2 was markedly reduced in HKD (0 +/- 0 ml X min-1 X m-2) in comparison with MKD (1,031 +/- 615) and normal subjects (782 +/- 278). The percentage distribution of KB among various tissues inside the organism of diabetic subjects is abnormal. Both AcAc and beta-OHB recycling and mean residence time are not normal in HKD. A significant correlation was found between C-peptide and KB production in diabetes. These results suggest that a selective defect of beta-OHB peripheral utilization is important in determining and maintaining severe diabetic ketoacidosis.

Abstract Background: The phase 2 KEYNOTE-782 trial (NCT03664024) was designed to prospectively evaluate plasma-derived biomarkers of response to first-line pembro + chemo in pts with metastatic nonsquamous NSCLC. This exploratory analysis of KEYNOTE-782 evaluated the association of cfDNA mVAF levels with clinical outcomes. Methods: Adults with untreated stage IV nonsquamous NSCLC received pembro 200 mg Q3W + chemo (pemetrexed + carboplatin or cisplatin). cfDNA was isolated from plasma samples collected at baseline (BL) and cycle 2 (C2) and sequenced using a targeted NGS-based assay previously used to assess blood tumor mutational burden from cfDNA for the primary analysis. cfDNA mVAF was quantified for each patient. The associations of BL cfDNA mVAF (all pts) and change in cfDNA mVAF from BL at C2 (pts with ≥1 detectable variant at BL; cfDNA+) as continuous variables with ORR, PFS, and OS were evaluated; 1-sided α was prespecified at 0.05 after multiplicity adjustment. ORR, PFS, and OS were also descriptively evaluated by cfDNA bins (BL mVAF, &gt;0 vs 0; mVAF change from BL, ≥median vs &lt;median). Results: Of 101 pts with evaluable cfDNA samples at BL, 83 (82.2%) were cfDNA+; 74 of these 83 pts had evaluable cfDNA samples at C2. Low BL mVAF was associated with improved ORR, PFS, and OS (P &lt;0.01, each). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) for discriminating response was 0.61 (95% CI, 0.50-0.72). Among pts with BL mVAF &gt;0 (n = 83) vs 0 (n = 18), ORR (95% CI) was 38.6% (28.1-49.9) vs 55.6% (30.8-78.5), median PFS (95% CI) was 6.6 mo (4.9-9.0) vs 19.7 mo (9.8-not reached [NR]), and median OS (95% CI) was 13.6 mo (9.4-22.5) vs 31.6 mo (20.1-NR). Larger reductions in mVAF from BL at C2 were associated with improved ORR, PFS, and OS (P &lt;0.05, each). The AUROC for discriminating response was 0.69 (95% CI, 0.57-0.82). After adjustment for best overall response, change in mVAF from BL at C2 was not associated with PFS or OS (P &gt;0.05). In a descriptive evaluation for pts with a mVAF change from BL at C2 ≥median of 0.15 (n = 37) vs &lt;median (n="37)," orr="" (95%="" ci)="" was="" 18.9%="" (8.0-35.2)="" vs="" 64.9%="" (47.5-79.8),="" median="" pfs="" 5.1="" mo="" (4.2-11.1)="" 7.2="" (6.2-21.7),="" and="" os="" 12.8="" (7.9-18.1)="" 25.9="" (15.3-nr).="" conclusions:="" in="" pts="" with metastatic nonsquamous NSCLC treated with pembro + chemo, low cfDNA mVAF levels at BL and larger reductions in cfDNA mVAF levels were associated with improved clinical outcomes. However, after correction for clinical response, the prognostic value of cfDNA mVAF reduction was not significant. Further studies are warranted to elucidate the utility of cfDNA for disease monitoring in this setting. Plant Sci. 91: 773–782. Seed-propagated hybrids of Corylus avellana and C. americana are a potential crop for the Upper Midwest. Current N recommendations for hazelnuts are based on research on clonally propagated C. avellana in Oregon and may not be applicable in the Upper Midwest due to differing soils, climate, and plant genetics. We established three field plots in 2003 to test N fertilization rates on new plantings, with rates up to 33 g N plant−1 as ammonium nitrate applied annually in the spring, starting 2 wk after transplanting. We observed a strong negative linear effect of N rate on plant survival. In the second year we added trials on same-aged plants that had not previously been fertilized and found no N effect on survival. We concluded that waiting 1 yr after transplanting before fertilizing increases plant survival, but even then N requirements during establishment years are very low for hybrid hazelnuts. Standard leaf N concentrations for C. avellana in Oregon are roughly applicable to hybrid hazelnuts, except that the threshold between deficiency and sufficiency should be raised slightly to 1.9% N. The current threshold between deficient and sufficient, 2.2%, should be regarded as a target, rather than as a threshold to be exceeded.

Action Schools! BC (AS! BC) was scaled-up from an efficacy trial to province-wide delivery across 11 years (2004–2015). In this study we: (1) describe strategies that supported implementation and scale-up; (2) evaluate implementation (teachers’ physical activity (PA) delivery) and student’s PA and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) within a cluster randomized controlled trial during years 2 and 3 of scale-up; and (3) assess relationships between teacher-level implementation and student-level outcomes. We classified implementation strategies as process, capacity-building or scale-up strategies. Elementary schools (n = 30) were randomized to intervention (INT; 16 schools; 747 students) or usual practice (UP; 14 schools; 782 students). We measured teachers’ PA delivery (n = 179) using weekly logs; students’ PA by questionnaire (n = 30 schools) and accelerometry (n = 9 schools); and students’ CRF by 20-m shuttle run (n = 25 schools). INT teachers delivered more PA than UP teachers in year 1 (+33.8 min/week, 95% CI 12.7, 54.9) but not year 2 (+18.8 min/week, 95% CI −0.8, 38.3). Unadjusted change in CRF was 36% and 27% higher in INT girls and boys, respectively, compared with their UP peers (year 1; effect size 0.28–0.48). Total PA delivered was associated with change in children’s self-reported MVPA (year 1; r = 0.17, p = 0.02). Despite the ‘voltage drop’, scaling-up school-based PA models is feasible and may enhance children’s health. Stakeholders must conceive of new ways to effectively sustain scaled-up health promoting interventions if we are to improve the health of students at a population level. Purpose: This study aimed to test the correlation between the Big Five personality traits and the theory of planned behavior in Chinese physical education students. Design/methodology/approach: This is a cross sectional study which used the Big Five Inventory-44 and the Physical Educator’s Intention Toward Teaching Individuals with Disabilities III. Using a large number of randomly selected samples, a total of N =2305 physical education students (782 females and 1523 males, M age = 20.12, SD = 1.47) were purposely selected from 10 normal or comprehensive universities located in Eastern, Central and Western China. Findings: Our findings showed that the big five personality traits and theory of planned behavior are closely linked in physical education students. Future intervention experiments can focus on the impact of the big five personality traits on the TPB, to improve the mental health and academic performance of physical education students. Research and practical limitations/implications: First, the research method of this study is single, and subsequent studies can add mediator or moderator variables. Second, because this study is a cross-sectional study, it fails to explore the causal relationship between the Big Five personality traits and the various dimensions of the planned behavior theory of physical education for normal students. Originality/value: This study explored the relationship of the Big Five personality traits with intention, attitude toward the behavior, and subjective norms of physical education students, within the theory of planned behavior. It suggests ways for educators, counselors, and coaches to promote the physical and mental development of physical education students.

Abstract Examining day-to-day responses to everyday stressors, such as discrimination, contextualizes how cognitive aging trajectories may vary across the lifespan. Furthermore, recent research investigating stress-induced impairment of metamemory may address the relationship between discrimination experiences and cognitive impairment. This study sought to articulate the association between daily experiences of discrimination and impaired metamemory across the lifespan, as defined by the number of subjective cognitive complaints, using data collected from the Midlife in the United States Refresher Study Daily Diary Project (N = 782; ages 20-75; M = 47.91 years, SD = 12.67 years). A two-level linear mixed model was conducted to examine the within and between-persons relationships concerning lifetime and daily experiences of discrimination, daily affect balance, baseline objective cognitive performance, and sociodemographic variables (age, race, ethnicity, and sex) on impaired everyday metamemory. Results from linear mixed model analyses showed significant within-person fixed effects of daily discrimination and daily affect balance on metamemory accuracy, as well as significant between-persons fixed effects of race and ethnicity on metamemory accuracy. Furthermore, significant interactions were found between race and daily discrimination experiences, ethnicity and daily discrimination experiences, daily affect balance and daily discrimination experiences, daily affect balance and age, and endorsement of lifetime experiences of discrimination and daily discrimination experiences on day-to-day metamemory accuracy. These findings extend our understanding of how discrimination experiences may impair metacognitive processes and demonstrate the need for more research into understanding metamemory accuracy as an underlying mechanism by which the psychosocial stressor of discrimination impacts cognition across the lifespan.

Data on potential spawning grounds of the sterlet Acipenser ruthenus in the south of Western Siberia, in the Ob and Irtysh rivers (within Novosibirsk, Tomsk, and Omsk regions) are presented. There are 12 sites potentially suitable for natural reproduction of sterlet over a considerable length of the Ob, from 708 to 1135 km according to the Pilotage Map (PM). On 5 of them (in the area of the village Pochta, 761–759 km of the PM; Uspenka 782 km of the PM; Kireevsk 913.5–924 km of the PM; Oskino 937.5–950 km of the PM; the mouth of the Tom River 985–998 km PM) sterlet spawning was noted by the presence of early juveniles and (or) the presence of spawning growers. The total area of sites suitable for the natural reproduction of sterlet was 32.11 km². There are 14 sites potentially suitable for natural reproduction of sterlet over a considerable length of the Irtysh, from 2026 to 1310 km according to the PM. Their total area is 2.39 km². Identified areas in the Ob and Irtysh is characterized mainly by pebble soils (less often — sandy-pebble or rocky) and significant depths, from 3 to 16 m at the time of the survey. Thus, in the Ob and Irtysh despite hydroconstruction, extraction of sand-gravel mixture and other anthropogenic impact on the habitat, the conditions for the natural reproduction of sterlet have been preserved. The data obtained will serve as the basis for developing plans for the protection of sterlet in the region and making proposals for changes to the Fishing Rules for the West Siberian.

Asymmetry and heterogeneity in the branching of the human bronchial tree are well documented, but their effects on bronchoconstriction and ventilation distribution in asthma are unclear. In a series of seminal studies, Venegas et al. have shown that bronchoconstriction may lead to self-organized patterns of patchy ventilation in a computational model that could explain areas of poor ventilation [ventilation defects (VDefs)] observed in positron emission tomography images during induced bronchoconstriction. To investigate effects of anatomic asymmetry on the emergence of VDefs we used the symmetric tree computational model that Venegas and Winkler developed using different trees, including an anatomic human airway tree provided by M. Tawhai (University of Auckland), a symmetric tree, and three trees with intermediate asymmetry (Venegas JG, Winkler T, Musch G, Vidal Melo MF, Layfield D, Tgavalekos N, Fischman AJ, Callahan RJ, Bellani G, Harris RS. Nature 434: 777–782, 2005 and Winkler T, Venegas JG. J Appl Physiol 103: 655–663, 2007). Ventilation patterns, lung resistance (RL), lung elastance (EL), and the entropy of the ventilation distribution were compared at different levels of airway smooth muscle activation. We found VDefs emerging in both symmetric and asymmetric trees, but VDef locations were largely persistent in asymmetric trees, and bronchoconstriction reached steady state sooner than in a symmetric tree. Interestingly, bronchoconstriction in the asymmetric tree resulted in lower RL (∼%50) and greater EL (∼%25). We found that VDefs were universally caused by airway instability, but asymmetry in airway branching led to local triggers for the self-organized patchiness in ventilation and resulted in persistent locations of VDefs. These findings help to explain the emergence and the persistence in location of VDefs found in imaging studies.

Abstract In the context of the COVID19 pandemic, diabetes mellitus constitutes a main risk factor that increases overall mortality (1). The continuous glucose monitoring system (CGM) is an alternative that allows strict glucose monitoring and reduces the contact of the healthcare providers with the patients in the pandemic era. We conducted a study using CGM in COVID vs non-COVID patients hospitalized at the San José Hospital in Bogotá Colombia. Methods: Single center, prospective study of glucose monitoring in patients with and without COVID19 using the Freestyle system. We included patients of 18 years and older, hospitalized at Hospital San José de Bogotá, with diagnosis of diabetes and treated with insulin. We used the T student distribution to analize the data. Primary outcomes were the usefulness of the device in inpatients, and the clinical outcomes according to glucometric measures in patients with and without COVID19 infection. Results: CGM devices were placed on 30 patients: 10 with, and 20 without COVID. The system was feasible with good nurse acceptance. The age of the patients was between 18 and 90 years. Of the COVID positive patients, 30% required ICU and 10% died, the mean HBA1C was 9.5% (CI 95% 7.5–10.09%) with a general variability of 35.6%, only 3 patients archieved goals of time in range. The general glycemic index was 7.04% (CI 0.66-0.100)Of the non COVID patients, 10% required ICU and 10% died, the average variability was 30.9% and hypoglycemic episodes predominated in 3 patients. The general glycemic index was 6.6% (CI 0.61–0.71)The patients who required ICU had an average HBA1C of 10.4%, 80% received corticosteroid management during the hospital stay. No patient had skin or soft tissue infection at the sensor insertion site. Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, CGM is a useful method for glucometric control that reduces the contact of healthcare providers and allows early interventions to improve metabolic control. Worse outcomes are seen in patients with higher variability and with COVID infection. References: 1. Apicella M. Campopiano MC. Mantuano M. Mazoni L. Coppelli A. Del Prato S.
