A psychology of blindness is proposed that contends that information loss is the most critical trauma of the loss of vision. The magnitude of information loss is emphasized with respect to vision as the primary sensory modality for obtaining information. Further, the vital role of access to information in human development and the tendency to seek information to cope with stressful circumstances are addressed. Implications for rehabilitation of blind persons are discussed.

Resumo:
AbstractAndrogenetic alopecia (AGA) is highly prevalent in society, affecting both men and women. More than the sociological meaning of hair loss, it has become a very important part of self-identity or “body image.” A psychological concept of body image refers to one's thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and behavioral changes related to one's physical looks. In spite of alopecia's common occurrence, it often leads to psychological disturbance and distress. Hair thinning and perceived hair loss also has a very important negative impact on the psyche of the individual. The common emotional aspects associated are self-consciousness, embarrassment, frustration, and jealousy. Knowledge of these effects among the clinicians managing hair loss patients is beneficial. The clinician must make an active effort to identify the borderline group of patients with body dysmorphic syndrome so as to manage them with psychotherapeutic medication for their hair loss prior to hair transplantation. This article aims to provide important information and an understanding of how the psychology gets affected due to hair loss, particularly AGA and its management to the practicing hair transplant surgeons.

Hearing loss (HL) is a widespread condition that can impair daily functioning, including communication and social participation. The last decade has seen an increase in the utilisation of health psychology theory to investigate the health-related behaviours of individuals with HL. There has been particular interest in the issue of individuals with HL under-using or not using hearing aids. This discussion paper examines several key HL research studies that have employed health psychology theories and models, such as the health belief model and the theory of planned behaviour. The paper concludes by exploring avenues for future research in this field.

The European Association of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA) was created in 1981 as the European Association of Professional Psychologists’ Associations (EFPPA). We show that Shakespeare’s dictum “What’s in a name?” does not apply here and that the loss of the “first P” (the adjectival “professional”) was resisted for almost two decades and experienced by many as a serious loss. We recount some of the deliberations preceding the change and place these in a broader historical context by drawing parallels with similar developments elsewhere. Much of the argument will refer to an underlying controversy between psychology as a science and the practice of psychology, a controversy that is stronger than in most other sciences, but nevertheless needs to be resolved.

Grief is a process experienced by the loss or absence of a person, object or situation, triggering suffering, in addition to behavioral, emotional and sentimental reactions. According to studies, the child has the ability to understand about death, only needing to respect their level of cognitive/emotional development. The parents represent physical, emotional and security support for the infant, thus, their departure is understood as causing extreme pain and generating feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. Psychology has several strategies to deal with childhood grief. This work aimed to demonstrate the contribution of Psychology in the face of grief in childhood with the loss of one of the parents, through the understanding of child development, the understanding of grief in childhood, the importance of mourning and psychological assessment the loss of one of the parents. It was based on a bibliographic review with a qualitative-descriptive approach, in the period between 2005 and 2021. It concluded the importance of psychology for the elaboration of child mourning, given that this science has several means, such as psychoeducation about mourning and the emotions triggered by it, ludic therapy, participation in centers or support groups by the surviving parent, as well as psychotherapy to redefine this process and its consequences.

This study attempts to examine individual investor’s psychology and their investment decision in NEPSE with an objective to identify whether the individual psychological factors and their biases influence decision making in Nepalese stock market. The sample size of 347 was taken from broker office located in Butwal city for this study. Psychological factors named anchoring, herding, mental accounting, overconfidence; regret aversion and loss aversion were undertaken. These factors were further categorized as cognitive bias (anchoring, herding and mental accounting) and emotional bias (overconfidence, regret aversion and loss aversion). Self-administered questionnaire were used to collect data. In the same way descriptive and analytical research design were used to analyze the data. Multiple regression analysis showed that overconfidence, herding and loss aversion have impact on investment decision whereas anchoring, mental accounting and regret aversion does not have an impact on individual investors investment decision. The result further showed that cognitive and emotion biases both have positive and significant influence on the investment decision making of individual investor in Nepalese stock exchange.

In this research I developed a mediation model in which individuals' personality traits according to the five-factor model (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience) predict hair loss via scalp sweat. To test the proposed model I used archival data obtained from 472 people (157 men and 315 women) living in Germany. It was found that scalp sweat mediated (a) the negative relationship between conscientiousness and hair loss and (b) the positive relationship between neuroticism and hair loss. Results also showed that gender moderated the association between neuroticism and scalp sweat, such that the relationship between neuroticism and hair loss was stronger for men than it was for women. On the basis of the assumption that personality traits can play a critical role in interpreting the surrounding environment, this study is first to test the relationship between the five-factor model and hair loss via scalp sweat (a physiological response to a stressful environment).

Two experiments examined whether framing effects, in terms of losses and gains, can be extended to student learning and grading preferences. In Experiment 1, participants rated psychology course syllabi to investigate preferences for differently framed grading systems: a loss versus gain grading system. The results showed a clear framing effect with more negative impressions of the loss grading system. Experiment 2 demonstrated that framing a grading system in terms of losses negatively influenced learning in actual psychology courses, as this group earned lower grades. This study has potential implications for decision-making theories in cognitive psychology as well as for teaching psychological courses.
