Texto completo da fonteThis work deals with the problematics of mauritian literature of french expression and with insular indentity. After giving an overview of this literature and showing the difficulties encountered for an homogeneous definition, we have exposed the different literary projects and introduce the authors of our corpus (robert-edward hart, malcoln de chazal, jean fanchette, loys masson, andre masson, edouard maunick et jean-marie gustave le clezio), whilst providing our own definition of mauritian literature ; we have tried to show that the thematic features grant an access to the mauritian imaginary. A permanent thematic feature evokes the sea, the creole ideal and the desire of insularity. We have considered the literary common roots between chazal and hart and chazal's personal cosmogony. The recurrent schemas and their mutual organization prove that a constancy exists in this literature : the notion of insularity, an imaginary world which gradually substitutes itself to the real physical space of the traveller so as to introduce the myth of the return to basics and the search of one's origins. We have noted down the 'motif' of paradise which leads to the creol ideal and to a utopic perception of the world. The island can also represent a negative aspect of utopia as well as leading to a mystical utopia. We have tried to point out what is common to all the authors of our corpus and thus allows a discourse in which elements composing a society can be explained and interpreted. We have directed our work toward a research of the imaginary, basing ourselves on anthopological critical works including gilbert durand's critical analysis. Our work thus shows the process of fiction, symbolisation, the building up of the imaginary which allow a biological, social and cultural synthesis as well as the legitimate reappropriation on the insular space

This insularity is denying oneself, the rejection of an island that history has made prison. It is seeking un-insularisation, continentalisation, bursting fences and imposed borders. The purpose of this research is to reveal a passionate, passion, that since the XIIIth century to the present day, the writers of the three southern islands mainstain with their mother land. This thesis wants to demonstrate a unity despite their differences, between the Islands of the “Great Ocean”. The Malagasy authors fierce need for anchoring in their region, indicates a “restlessness”, insecurity, in front of an exploded island (by ethnic strife, often silenced), and an ontological blur, because the big Islands origines are problematic. History has been occulted. Jean-Luc Raharimanana talks about “invented”, recreated origins. A présent quest, and increasingly, in dontemporary literature, chows that while Madagascar has always wanted do dissociate itself from its sister islands, its past draws them closer, relates its history, the arrival of foreign colonizing settlers, with slaves, on its shores ; trafficking that took place, ethnic rivalries and the process of creolization that birthed it, its ontological insecurity and its literature, to Mauritus and Reunion. He is well-known as executive secretary of the Comité national des écrivains (1944) and editor of Les Lettres françaises (1947). He is also known as an outstanding poet of the resistance movement, in France. Lyric and dramatic writer, his poems, novels and dramatic works raise many questions about human nature. His best pages are like bits from letters or from a diary and tell much about how he feels. The literary works of Loys Masson have never been adequately explored or explained. We propose a careful search into the life of L. Masson, into the profound pain of his dreams, reflected in his delicate books. His main themes are, rebellion, childhood, and the neurosis of a lost paradise. Letters, unpublished works, statements, editorials in Les Lettres françaises, also form part of our research works. Texto completo da fonteThis doctorate thesis intended study the long cosmogony imagined by the Mauritian mystic Malcolm de Chazal throughout his work. It consists of three main distinct parts which are set out in the following manner: the first part concerns the myth of Lemuria which is now an engulfed continent. This theme, which one frequently encounters in the literature of the Indian Ocean, sets the beginning of the Malcolm de Chazal's metaphysical research. This part also analyses the means the poet used to rediscover the mythical past of his island. The second part opens up a reflection on the philosophical and theological architecture of the Chazalian cosmogony. It first considers the image of god, a god who has similarities with the judeochristian divinity. It then deals with the traces of gnosis and dualist thoughts which can be found in some texts of the fifties. This work is completed by a study of Chazalian Christology: one finds the patterns of logos and Melchisedeq, which assert of the author's penchant for a pronounced Christian mysticism. This second part also deals with the problem of evil in the Chazalian cosmogony. The third part lays out an orderly cosmogonic system on the basis of the frequently contradictory elements brought forth in the two preceding parts. It then replaces the Lemurian myth within this system by commenting on the mythic novel Petrusmok in particular. Volume II 1) synoptic charts of Petrusmok the first part is a summary of the "mythic novel" Petrusmok which is set out in the form of a series of charts and maps. Thanks to this method, the reader has rapid access to the contents of each chapter of the work as well as to the appearing characters. 2) Malcolm de Chazal the original. . . Neither "surrealist" nor "new age", bard and champion of the unique unism. This document is an essay written by René Agnel, a retired pastor of the reformed church of France who corresponded regularly with Christophe Chabbert throughout the making of his doctorate thesis. Texto completo da fonteThe goal of this thesis is the study of social talking written representations in a French movelistic corpus. We deepened this problematic analysing the production of the Mauritian writer, Carl de Souza. This pluringual corpus shows a complex writing because it belongs to a multicultural insular society of the Indian ocean and because of its heterolinguism references. Within this framework, we forwarded two hypothesis. The first hypothesis envisages a link between social talking and French novelistic writing in a plurilingual surrounding. The gatering, the eventual conflicts among languages hides conflicts linked to the seeking and defensing of identities. The second one brings the idea that the French speaking novelist in young literatures must situate himself versus his metropolitan models. This writing hybrid shows a "directed decentering" with the "raising of voices" in a burst space which obeys the aesthetics of globalization

Texto completo da fonteThis analysis examines the relationship between art and spirituality through the juxtaposition of religious and verbal references in Malcolm de Chazal's works. Starting from obvious denotations, I then move onto more subtle connotations. The first part of my dissertation analyses the Mauritius context in which Malcolm de Chazal has composed his works. This section offers a detailed study of two types of corpus; a long one (3/4 of Chazal's works) and a shorter one, Sens-plastique, which has been the subject of serial analysis. My second and third chapters classify the numerous subisotopes from the religious/and/language isotopes, which reveal a metaphorical use of language. My point is that the two isotopes appear on both sides: that which compares and that which is compared. The fourth part shows the intrication of these two isotopes within the construction of Chazal's work itself. It assesses the many surrounding isotopes, especially the recurrent one of the /human body/. This part reveals more specifically the variety of metaphorical forms within Sens-plastique. The union of metaphors and antonomasias, antanaclases and syllepses put the 'signified' into motion, notably where god is signified. Language and the religious are placed within the natural order, which, in the process, becomes more human. Three "stylemes" organize the semiotic structure of the text: the relation one/multiple, the reversibility and tension between sacred/profane. I draw links between poetic language ('plasticisation') and constructions of meanings within the performative language used by de Chazal. In the light of the surrealist concept of "merveilleux" and the Buddhist notion of ku, I analyze the heuristic of Chazal's word which sends the reader back to his own relationships with the vibrant potentialities of the world. The metaphor, of which the flower is itself the metaphor, is, at the same time, the place and the model of the art and the religious, that is seen as a way to go beyond any limits. Mimicking life's dynamics, it serves a form of 'cosmic' humanism

Texto completo da fonteAt the meeting point of three literatures: Mauritian Francophone and Indian literature in English and Hindi, the focus is placed on the construction of female agency in the Indiaoceanic narrative space. Ananda Devi, Arundhati Roy and Krishna Sobti depict female protagonists, defined through their personal crisis, in a social structure dominated by the male logos. Their écriture feminine exposes the terror felt vis-à-vis the female body and female sexuality, seen as the operating cause of the fall of the woman, from model to counter-model. Furthermore, the subject/object dialectics motivated by power, is so fragile that very often the negotiation of this fine line determines the construction of the female protagonist, as well as her claiming of an identity of her own. Cultural studies and gender studies used as theoretical and aesthetic tools help us understand the problematic subalternity of the female character in both postcolonial and patriarchal contexts. Her emergence as subject of discourse takes place via revolt and through the reappropriation of language against “the gaze”, she thus redefines space in a way that destabilizes borders

As colonial museum, Ulysse cafre ou l’histoire dorée d’un Noir written by Marius-Ary Leblond and Ameenah written by Clément Charoux expose colony, its functioning and natives. These colonials mauritians and reunioneses novelists use naturalism style to describe the intimate of races, genius of races. Marius-Ary Leblond say that they are better able to teach insular world than exotic literature. Colored people representations provoke legitimate conflict. In colonial novels, colored women, (Indians, black, “cafrine” , metis) are regarded as racial Other and gendered Other. They are subaltern of white narrators and heros. Conversely, in postcolonial women mauritian and reunionese novels, (Á l’autre bout de moi written by Marie-Thérèse Humbert, Rouge Cafrine written by Véronique Bourkoff and Femme sept peaux written by Monique Séverin) female narrators and heroines criticize continued colonial ideology, which still goes on in societies that were colonized. They give different visions of colored women, enough to represent themselves, to analyze themselves and observe postcolonial society. They still filled with stereotypes and colonialist, phallocrate, orientalist discourses. These rhetorics destroy their identity. Paradoxaly, complex, heterogeneous and multiple identities of female narrators figure into more novelistic fiction than autobiography. However, autobiography is supposed to account for true female narrator’s identity. This way, mauritian autobiography and reunionese autobiography are deconstructed in the texts of our corpus: Miettes et Morceaux written by Eileen Lohka, Letan lontan written by Rada Gungaloo, Tête Haute written by Mémona Hintermann and La Magie de Siva Desiles an autobiographic music hall written by Jasmine Desiles

Texto completo da fontePrimary exoticism as defined by Victor Segalen is still very relevant to the modern society mainly when it refers to insularity. This phenomenon is not only maintained by the numerous literary productions of the periods of colonial conquest and the establishment of empires but also by the media and the cinema overusing indefatigably the idyllic imaging of the island. However, this representation recedes widely in Indian Ocean literature where the second generation of writers in particular frees itself from the colonial ideals always perceptible in the first generation. The initial objective of our study is therefore to highlight the insular archetypes forged during the colonial period and to demonstrate the various processes of their erosion in the literature of the Indian Ocean over the generations. It is then a question of understanding why are the island paragons deconstructed in this literary field. Through their approach, do the authors of the Indian Ocean want to express the desire of an identity, linguistic, territorial and historic reappropriation ? Do they besides wish to assert their inscription in a regional literature to open better to the mondialité as defined by Édouard Glissant ? With the support of postcolonial theories, mouvements and concepts at the same time taken up by different studies on Exoticism, Insularity, Creoleness and Littérature-Monde, we so want to propose avenues for analysis and reflection leading to a better comprehension if not apprehension of the aesthetic universes found in the Indian Ocean basin
