This study investigates the relationships between the geometry of space, theory of perception and theory of narrative in the context of Preston Scott Cohen’s Lightfall – the atrium space of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in Israel. The starting premise of the study is that it is possible to see the atrium space of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art as an inversion of the atrium space of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum in New York. Hence, the main hypothesis is that Cohen’s Lightfall transgresses the language of modernist architecture, moving from the constitution of exhibition space for pure gaze to the constitution of exhibition space for disparate vision. This means breaking with the homogeneous, universal space and time concepts of totalitarianism with the aim of building space-time concepts based on a disjunctive synthesis of narratives, ideologies and discourses of different societies, cultures and arts, or building space-time concepts in a continuous process of becoming. How does the architecture of Cohen’s Lightfall reject the totalitarian modernist interior of the museum as an institution designed solely for the observation of the work of art? How is the theory and practice of contemporary art and culture reflected in the aesthetics of Lightfall and, vice versa, how do the aesthetics of Lightfall influence the practice of contemporary art, culture and society? In other words, in what way does Cohen’s atrium space set the work of art not as autonomous, isolated, neutral and without context but as a unit of discourse? How does Cohen make the transition from the constitution of artistic space for pure gaze to the constitution of artistic space for disparate vision? This study draws on the theoretical investigations of Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Jacques Derrida, Gilbert Simondon and Pierre Bourdieu. AbstractIf the bounded proper forcing axiom BPFA holds and ω1 = ω1L, then there is a lightface Σ31 well-ordering of the reals. The argument combines a well-ordering due to Caicedo-Veličković with an absoluteness result for models of MA in the spirit of “David's trick.” We also present a general coding scheme that allows us to show that BPFA is equiconsistent with R being lightface Σ41 for many “consistently locally certified” relations R on ℝ. This is accomplished through a use of David's trick and a coding through the Σ2 stable ordinals of L.

Abstract We examine the computable part of the differentiability hierarchy defined by Kechris and Woodin. In that hierarchy, the rank of a differentiable function is an ordinal less than ${\omega _1}$ which measures how complex it is to verify differentiability for that function. We show that for each recursive ordinal $\alpha > 0$ , the set of Turing indices of $C[0,1]$ functions that are differentiable with rank at most α is ${{\rm{\Pi }}_{2\alpha + 1}}$ -complete. This result is expressed in the notation of Ash and Knight.

Examples of effectively indiscernible projective sets of real numbers in various models of set theory are presented. We prove that it is true, in Miller and Laver generic extensions of the constructible universe, that there exists a lightface Π21 equivalence relation on the set of all nonconstructible reals, having exactly two equivalence classes, neither one of which is ordinal definable, and therefore the classes are OD-indiscernible. A similar but somewhat weaker result is obtained for Silver extensions. The other main result is that for any n, starting with 2, the existence of a pair of countable disjoint OD-indiscernible sets, whose associated equivalence relation belongs to lightface Πn1, does not imply the existence of such a pair with the associated relation in Σn1 or in a lower class.

Abstract In order to determine the light sensitivities of commonly encountered furs, 17 furs from 12 species were exposed to 1.97 Mlx hours of light from a xenon arc lamp, filtered either to simulate window-filtered daylight or to remove all ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Comparison with coexposed Blue Wools showed that most samples were relatively lightfast (Blue Wool 5 or better), with darker specimens being more lightfast. Examination of the Commission internationale de l'éclairage (CIE) L*a*b* values revealed fading but also other changes: some furs darkened, and other experienced changes in b* values. Removal of UV radiation prevented darkening and usually decreased the magnitude of ΔE76 but did not prevent color changes, and one species exhibited greater change under visible light. Changes in color were accompanied by photooxidation of the keratin of all species as assessed by attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy; the extent of photooxidation was decreased by filtering out UV radiation. Pre-exposure treatment with a spray application of a 1% solution of Tinuvin 292, a hindered amine light stabilizer, offered some protection against both UV and visible light-induced changes. Tinuvin 292 pre-exposure also helped prevent keratin photooxidation and light-induced mechanical damage and thus may be an appropriate preventative treatment when light exposure is unavoidable.

AbstractThis paper deals with the question whether the assumption that for every inaccessible cardinal κ there is a well-order of H(κ+) definable over the structure $\langle {\rm{H}}({\kappa ^ + }), \in \rangle$ by a formula without parameters is consistent with the existence of (large) large cardinals and failures of the GCH. We work under the assumption that the SCH holds at every singular fixed point of the ℶ-function and construct a class forcing that adds such a well-order at every inaccessible cardinal and preserves ZFC, all cofinalities, the continuum function, and all supercompact cardinals. Even in the absence of a proper class of inaccessible cardinals, this forcing produces a model of “V = HOD” and can therefore be used to force this axiom while preserving large cardinals and failures of the GCH. As another application, we show that we can start with a model containing an ω-superstrong cardinal κ and use this forcing to build a model in which κ is still ω-superstrong, the GCH fails at κ and there is a well-order of H(κ+) that is definable over H(κ+) without parameters. Finally, we can apply the forcing to answer a question about the definable failure of the GCH at a measurable cardinal.

Thiophene ring-enhancing electron delocalization imparts unique properties to azoic chromophore tools. The novel TA-OH dye contains a push–pull π-electron system, including a thiophene-azo scaffold with a hydroxyl group at the ortho position to the azo bridge. The hydroxyl group is expected to lock the azo bridge in its trans conformation, concurring with the photostability and fastness of the dye. The single crystal analysis identified the molecule’s primary conjugation plane, and the theoretical analysis provided electronic pattern insights. The absorption behavior and the trans-to-cis conversion were examined from both experimental and theoretical perspectives. The effect of solvent polarity and the role of pH on the photophysical properties were explored. The solvent polarity strongly affects the absorbance spectrum of TA-OH, therefore potentially making NLO active. Additionally, TA-OH exhibited pH responsiveness akin to classic dichromatic pH indicators, with a noticeable color shift from red to blue observed as pH transitioned from neutral to alkaline. Absorbance titration experiments, along with experimental/theoretical determination of pKa, defined the pH sensing ability.

Conjunctions of negative and positive formulas in the transfinite induction axiom of ${\rm{I}}{{\rm{D}}_1}$ are shown to be weak, and disjunctions are strong. Thus we draw a boundary line between predicatively reducible and impredicative fragments of ${\rm{I}}{{\rm{D}}_1}$.

Summary Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin that is not only important for children’s and adults’ skeletal health but is also important for their overall health and wellbeing. Vitamin D deficiency has been defined as a 25-hydroxyvitamin D < 20 ng/mL and vitamin D insufficiency as a 25-hydroxyvitamin D of 21-29 ng/mL. The major source of vitamin D is sensible sun exposure since very few foods naturally contain vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with in - creased risk for many acute and chronic diseases including infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, neurocognitive dysfunction and muscle weakness. To achieve a blood level of 25-hydroxy - vitamin D >30 ng/mL children require 600-1 000 IUs and adults 1 500-2 000 IUs of vitamin D daily.

A model of set theory ZFC is defined in our recent research, in which, for a given n≥3, (An) there exists a good lightface Δn1 well-ordering of the reals, but (Bn) no well-orderings of the reals (not necessarily good) exist in the previous class Δn−11. Therefore, the conjunction (An)∧(Bn) is consistent, modulo the consistency of ZFC itself. In this paper, we significantly clarify and strengthen this result. We prove the consistency of the conjunction (An)∧(Bn) for any given n≥3 on the basis of the consistency of PA2, second-order Peano arithmetic, which is a much weaker assumption than the consistency of ZFC used in the earlier result. This is a new result that may lead to further progress in studies of the projective hierarchy.

Resumo:
This study focused on reality of factors affecting student satisfaction with English foundation course belonging to a specific partnership program so-called International Bachelor of Finance and Accounting (BIFA) at National Economics University in Vietnam. The data collection tool was a questionnaire with 293 first year and second year students of BIFA. Results indicated that the strongest factor to measure student satisfaction with English course was related to teachers, which was followed by personal experiences, administrative staff and university facilities. Noticeably, the dissatisfactory factors were related to incompatibility between test questions and teaching content, students’ limited trust in English’ role in future life prosperity, inaccurate and non-detailed explanation from administrative staff and poor lightful room. Then, it was proposed that the program managers should improve students’ critical thinking skills about test content and acquired lessons and consult them about English value in students’ future life prosperity. By that way, student satisfaction with the English course is expected to improve more comprehensively.
