Resumo:
The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) belongs to the family of herpesviruses, subfamily Gammaherpesvirinae, and genus Lymphocryptovirus. Despite this classification, there are two serotypes of the Epstein-Barr virus, namely type A and type B. Both types play significant roles in the development of viremia. Additionally, EBV infection can lead to lymphadenopathy, upper respiratory tract obstruction, spleen rupture, thrombocytopenia, and recently, there has been increased emphasis on the connection between this virus and certain malignant neoplasms. Diagnosing this virus can be challenging if clinicians rely solely on serological confirmation. In some cases, it is necessary to perform more specific methods, in addition to considering the clinical picture and history, to prove the presence of the virus in blood, nasopharyngeal swabs, and other tissue samples. The aim of this paper is to present the severity and consequences caused by the Epstein-Barr virus and to emphasize the importance of preventive measures in preventing the virus from coming into contact with susceptible individuals. Prevention plays a crucial role in reducing contact with the virus. Since the infection spreads via droplets, wearing masks in healthcare facilities and regular hand washing are hygiene priorities to prevent infection and further transmission.

Molecular markers within or close to genes of interest play essential roles in marker-assisted selection. PCR-based markers have been developed for numerous traits in different plant species including several genes conferring resistance to viruses in potato. In the present work, rapid and reliable approaches were developed for the simultaneous detection of Ryadg and Ry-fsto, Ns, and PLRV.1 genes conferring resistance to Potato virus Y, Potato virus S and Potato leafroll virus, respectively, on the basis of previously published and newly modified markers. The sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers for Ryadg, Ns and PLRV1 and the newly modified cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) marker for Ry-fsto were amplified in one PCR reaction which could simply characterize Ryadg and PLRV.1 resistance. Additional digestion of amplicons with EcoRV and MfeI for genotyping the Ry-fsto and Ns resistance genes, respectively, was needed. The effectiveness of genotyping in triplex and tetraplex PCRs was tested on 35 potato varieties used for potato seed production and breeding programs.

Virus discovery as submicroscopic entities, data from the end of the 19th century, which marked the beginning of a new research discipline, the viruses study. Since then, the presence of viruses has been found in cancer and in multiple diseases whose origin was unknown. Viruses have shown their great potential in triggering infections, causing pandemics at a high cost to society as the Spanish Flu in 1918. The challenge of acting at the health emergency due to the outbreak of diseases caused by new viruses, has led to research with the application of new technologies, in order to find strategies, diagnostic methods, treatment and development of vaccines.

Virus interference is one of the oldest concepts in immunology. Recent findings indicate that it may depend on the host痴 anti-viral cellular immune surveillance processes, as well as on sequence-specific gene silencing mechanism guided by double-stranded RNA. Other biological events, unrelated to some degree at least from immune-dependent IFN or RNA-dependent viral interference may be at play as well. We discuss these biological mechanisms in the context of of the Systemic Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona virus2 (SARS-CoV2) virus responsible for Corona Virus Disease 2019 (CoViD-19).

The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a member of the Herpesviridae family, belonging to the Gammaherpesvirinae subfamily, has been associated with several nonmalignant and malignant diseases, including Burkitt’s lymphoma, gastric cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. In recent years numerous EBV genome sequences have been analyzed to answer the question of whether EBV genome variations are tumor-specific, ethnically or geographically determined. A clear answer regarding the "specialization" of EBV strains has not yet been received; however, attempts are being made to identify high-risk EBV strains. This mini-review analyzes the most well-known EBV classifications, EBV sequence variations and their association with EBV-associated human pathologies.

Resumo:
The hepatitis E virus (HEV), the causative agent of hepatitis E, is a non-enveloped RNA virus. The HEV genome is formed by a non-segmented positive-sense RNA chain. The 3´end of the chain is polyadenylated and the 5´end is structurally characterised by the so called “capping”. According to currently accepted taxonomy, HEV is classified in the genus Hepevirus, the only member of the Hepeviridae family. HE is usually transmitted via the faecal-oral route due to the fact that drinking water or water for industrial purposes is contaminated due to poor sanitation. This spread of HEV has been reported in developing countries of Asia, Africa, South and Central America. However, cases in countries with the sporadic occurrence of HEV have been associated with travelling to countries with an increased risk of infection (developing countries in Asia, Africa and America). HEV infections have subsequently been described in people who have not travelled to endemic countries. Further studies of the HEV suggested other routes of transmission and a zoonotic potential of the virus (pigs and deer as the potential source of human infection).

Apricot latent virus (ApLV) is a definitive species of the Foveavirus genus, the Betaflexiviridae family. Although the virus is not highly prevalent, it was identified in several European and Mediterranean countries thus far. Biological experiments demonstrated that, in addition to the only known natural host, Prunus armeniaca, ApLV can be experimentally graft-transmitted to several Prunus species. Therefore, the eradication of the viral pathogen largely depends on the use of virus-free propagating materials and rootstocks, which should be seriously considered when designing and implementing stone fruit certification schemes. Although ApLV is not present on the list of viruses and other pathogens that require testing in the EPPO certification schemes for the production of healthy stone fruit trees for planting, Peach asteroid spot disease (PAS) causing agent whose occurrence was often justly correlated with ApLV, is included on the list. This review summarises the current available knowledge of ApLV on the biological, morphological, physicochemical and molecular levels and includes the contemporary management approaches.
