Texto completo da fonteThe aim of this thesis is to gain a deeper understanding of the coagulation process of the two size classes of rubber particles derived from Hevea brasiliensis latex, and to establish a link with the mechanical properties of the final rubber. The originality lies in a multi-scale, multi-disciplinary approach, covering the analysis of native particles and their self-organization in the liquid state, as well as the mechanical properties of dry films in the form of rubber sheets (mini ADS). The study was carried out on two particle sizes from the RRIM600 and PB235 clones. The first part is a new liquid/air approach using a Langmuir trough, with particle adsorption kinetics at the interface monitored using complementary techniques such as ellipsometry, tensiometry, rheology and Brewster angle microscopy. The first stages of coagulation and the organization of particle components were observed by atomic force microscopy. In the second part, these organizations were linked to the mechanical properties of dry rubber sheets using uniaxial tensile tests. This work opens up new perspectives by linking molecular processes to the macroscopic properties of natural rubber, thus broadening research lines in this field

Texto completo da fonteThe aim of this work is to understand the influence of copolymerizable surfactants (« Surfmers ») on different properties of film forming latexes. First of all, we have synthesized surfmers with a reactive function derived from maleic anhydride. These compounds have then been engaged in seeded emulsion polymerizations. We show that a good control of the operating conditions, first of all, allows to obtain stable latexes, but also allows to optimize the grafting of the surfactant at the surface of the particles. Hence, the colloids containing grafted surfactant present a great stability, even during freeze 1 thaw cycles or when they are in the presence of highly concentrated divalent electrolyte solutions. In a second step, we have studied the behavior of such latexes during film formation. The macromolecular diffusion kinetics have been described through uniaxial tensile tests. We show that the rupture strain evolution represents this diffusion, and it appears that the presence of surfmer (associated with water molecules) accelerates this phenomenon. Then, we have been driven to study the influence of water on the films properties. We observe great differences between the films containing surfmer molecules and those synthesized in the presence of conventional surfactant: for example, the surfmer based films' water uptake is largely decreased. At last, a theoretical analysis of the polymer's deformation has been improved. This has lead us to have a better understanding of the films' thermomechanical behavior laws. We have then been able to finely compare the films containing conventional surfactants or surfmer

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis deals with the elaboration of film forming nanocomposite latexes containing silica and cerium dioxide particles via emulsion polymerization. First, copolymerizable groups were introduced onto the surface of the mineral particles through chemical grafting of -methacryloxy propyltrimethoxysilane for silica or via the use of complexing carboxylated or organophosphorus monomers or macromonomers for cerium dioxide. The grafting was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and solid state NMR and quantified through elemental analysis. The functionalized nanoparticules were then used as seeds in emulsion polymerization reactions. Attention was focused on the colloidal stability of the latexes. Colloidal stability appeared to be strongly dependent of the initial stability of the grafted inorganic colloidal suspension in water. The morphology of the nanocomposite latex particles was characterized by transmission electron microscopy and correlated with the surface modification and experimental polymerization conditions. Finally, in case of silica, films have been elaborated from the nanocomposite latexes and their mechanical properties have been evaluated and interpreted in view of the characteristics of the composite particles
