Resumo:

This essay focuses on the concept of distanciation in hermeneutic phenomenology and its relevance to an understanding of the utopian and dystopian dimensions in Ana Castillo’s So Far From God (1993) and Salvador Plascencia’s The People of Paper (2005), two postmodern novels that perceive Chicanx history aslant. I analyze how distanciations in these novels open possible cultural worlds that aid readers in interpreting new and/or estranging historical traditions. Ultimately, the distanciations in Ana Castillo’s So Far From God pattern the hope for an emergent queer Chicanx spiritual-activist identity, while the distanciations in Salvador Plascencia’s The People of Paper pattern a dystopic neoliberal worldview hidden behind decontextualzed kitchy representations of Chicanx identity. Although seemingly opposed, both cultural worldviews emerge through ruptures that occur between actual and possible worlds afforded by the novels’ distanciations of Chicanx identities and histories. Distanciation is arguably the most important hermeneutical issue concerning the interpretation of the Bible in the Church today. After describing some recent contributions to the problem of distanciation, this article seeks to explore distanciation theologically with the help of hermeneutical insights from research into the earliest Christian interpretation of the Bible: the use of Scripture in the New Testament.

Resumo:

This article considers how distanciation, understood as the active production of different forms of distance as a method of control, is used to manage people racialised and criminalised as migrants within the UK's hostile environment. Analysing different policies introduced under the hostile environment agenda, as well as the more recent New Plan for Immigration, we argue distanciation is a key tactic that shapes these policies and their implementation as well as offers us insight into changing forms of governing migration. Drawing on the analysis of a wide range of policy documents, the paper attends to different forms of distanciation used as a method of control within the UK's wider hostile environment and then presents the results of a case-study of how distanciation is mobilised within the English National Health Service, under the Migrant and Visitor Cost Recovery Programme in particular, which was introduced in 2014 to ensure the NHS receives ‘a fair contribution’ from people racialised as migrants. Addressing different forms of distanciation such as – spatial, legal and emotional – we argue that the lens of distance can offer insights into how detachment – increasing distance between different agents in immigration law and border enforcement is an intentional design to control empathy, solidarity and resistance. Tracing ways these forms of distanciation are designed into legislative and administrative measures helps us better understand how hostile environment policies work as well as locating agencies and possibilities of resistance within different spaces, agents and subjects of bordering.

Partant des travaux de Sigel (1970) sur l’influence de la «distanciation parentale» sur les capacités cognitives à l’âge préscolaire et scolaire, nous étudions les liens entre la distanciation exprimée dans le discours maternel, lors de la lecture d’un livre d’images avec l’enfant, et les performances de celui-ci lors d’une tâche individuelle de catégorisation. Une étude longitudinale a été réalisée auprès de 10 enfants avec leur mère. Ils ont été vus tous les deux mois, de 12 à 21 mois. Les résultats montrent des comportements maternels distanciants de trois niveaux hiérarchisés, ainsi que d’importantes variations individuelles. De même, on observe des variations individuelles dans les performances de catégorisation dont certaines peuvent être en partie expliquées par l’utilisation, par les mères, d’un niveau moyen de distanciation. Les résultats sont interprétés dans le cadre de la notion de «zone proximale de développement» de Vygotski.

While researchers in social psychology often explore space and time in isolation, the relations between these dimensions are rarely considered. To address this gap, we explore a model of Time–Space Distanciation, the extent to space and time are abstracted from one another in the cultural coordination of activity. We introduce this construct with an emphasis on its interdisciplinary roots and its status as a feature of both group- and individual-level psychology. We then offer three studies providing initial evidence of the distinctiveness of this variable at both levels. We find that (1) state-level time–space distanciation is related to, but distinct from, collectivism and cultural tightness and (2) it has important implications for collective well-being. We further found that (3) individual-level time–space distanciation is associated with a wide range of trait differences. We conclude by describing the implications of this research for the study of time, space, and their connection.

Dans le cadre théorique de la socialisation de la cognition, nous avons étudié les liens entre les capacités de représentation catégorielle précoces (dans une tâche de manipulation d' objets) et les caractéristiques des interventions verbales maternelles, lors d'une activité impliquant, elle aussi, des représentations d' objets. Nous avons utilisé le Modèle de Distanciation Psychologique de Sigel, en vérifiant qu'il est bien applicable à des ^ages précoces (entre 11 et 21 mois). Robert pinget, ecrivain ayant appartenu au groupe du "nouveau roman", a cherche a montrer par son oeuvre, que la litterature ne devait plus, comme au xixe siecle, etre une representation du reel mais que le recit devait ressembler a une composition textuelle aux multiples sens et comprendre une reflexion sur l'ecriture. Nous nous proposons de voir comment l'auteur recuse la definition traditionnelle du roman, d'abord en presentant dans une perspective intratextuelle, le paysage geographique des differents ouvrages (dynamiques des lieux et des personnages); puis, dans une double perspective, inter et meta textuelle, en revelant les techniques narratives (distanciation des genres litteraires existant, ironie critique) qui servent a la construction d'un genre hybride et original. Nous montrerons que la remise en cause des formes traditionnelles n'implique pas un rejet systematique du passe et qu'au fil des oeuvres, pinget s'en rapproche sensiblement
Robert pinget (formerly a memeber of the "nouveau roman" group) has tried through his work to prove that literature should not be a representation of the real, as it was in the xix century, but that a story should be like a textual composition fraught with multiple meanings also including a reflection upon writing. We are trying to see how the author rejects the traditional definition of the novel: first by presenting the geographical landscape of different works (dynamics of places and characters) through an intratextual perspective; then through a double (inter and meta) perspective, by studying the different techniques (taking distances from existing literary genres, using critical irony, etc) which help to construct a hydrid and original genre. We are going to prove that, though questioning the traditional novel forms, pinget does not completely refuse the past and indeed draws nearer to it in the course of this work

An interesting language contact situation exists on the French island of Corsica, where French is the official national language but where Corsican, the island's minority language, is also in use and where Tuscan Italian, a previous official language, continues to exert a certain influence. The Corsican language is a cause espoused by the nationalist movements on the island, some of whom resort to violence and terrorism to force the government in Paris to address issues relating to the administration of Corsica. The extension of the Corsican language features amongst the demands made by the nationalists, who use the language in their high- profile campaigns. However, the Corsican language is not widely heard across the island, where no Corsican monolinguals are left alive and where French is the lingua franca. Whilst French is the language of communication, support for the Corsican language appears to be strong. This Thesis seeks to gauge the opinions of islanders, both corsophone and non-corsophone, to the language and its use. Of particular interest currently is the debate surrounding compulsory Corsican language classes for school children, and the attitudes of Corsicans to this question is addressed in this project. At the island's university in Corte, a number of academics, language activists and some politicians are engaged in work on the language, proposing a polynomic model for Corsican to extend the use of the language. Others are devoting time to differentiating the language from French, in an attempt to refine a 'purer' Corsican. This Thesis assesses the attitudes of islanders to these questions in order to provide an overview of the language situation on Corsica and to draw together proposals for those seeking to reverse the language shift to French.

Dans l'autobiographie moderne, l'autocritique litteraire est une forme contemporaine qui se presente comme une passerelle entre les ecrits personnels. Cet essai sur le jeu de l'autocritique litteraire se propose ainsi de mettre en evidence les quatre categories principales de l'autocommentaire, par la combinaison de deux types de fonctions autocritiques et de niveaux d'analyse, a partir d'un corpus allant de proust a doubrovsky. Le systeme de reperage est elabore en reprenant les concepts de metatextualite et d'intertextualite. L'explicite et l'implicite forment l'autre axe choisi pour distinguer les manifestations autocritiques. La reflexion sur le genre est un autocommentaire metatextuel et explicite ; le biographique, c'est a dire le vecu rapporte dans le recit autobiographique, est considere comme un choix critique de la part de l'ecrivain pour elaborer un intertexte personnel explicite. La valeur et la reussite litteraires sont formulees dans le texte de facon implicite, de meme que les attestations referentielles ou les dementis qui s'opposent a d'autres textes, notamment par une pratique differente des theories proposees ailleurs par le meme ecrivain. Les differents paratextes sont ainsi consideres comme un prolongement autocritique dutexte. Le genre du journal est aborde plus specifiquement a travers les publications, inaugurees en france par gide, en 1939, du vivant de l'auteur, critere qui nous a servi pour etablir une bibliographie critique des journaux publies en france de 1939 a 1996. Apres avoir demontre l'interet de l'autocritique comme propedeutique a l'analyse litteraire, cette these conclut sur l'etude de l'utilisation de l'autocritique par la critique litteraire
In modern autobiography, self-criticism is a contemporary form bridging various personal writings. The aim of this dissertation on the dynamics of literary self-criticism is to make clear the four main categories of "self-comment", by combining two types of self-critique functions and analysis levels through a corpus ranging from marcel proust to serge doubrovsky. The definition of such textual indicia is based on the concepts of metatextuality and intertextuality. The critical concepts of "explicit" and "implicit" provide the second axis used to recognize self-critique occurences. Consideration of the literary genre is a metatextual and explicit self-comment ; the use of biographical consent in autobiographic narratives is considered as a critical choice on the part of the writer develop in an explicit personal intertext. Its literary value is implicitly expressed in the text. So are referential affirmations or denials opposed to other texts, particulary when differing from the writer's own theories as expressed elsewhere. The different paratexts are thus considered as a self-critique extension of the text. The genre of the literary diary is treated more specifically throught its publication during the autor's life-time, as initiated in france by andre gide in 1939. This criterion allows us to delimit a critical biography of literary diaries published in france between 1939 and 1996. Having demonstrated the interest of self-critique as an introduction to textual analysis, this dissertation concludes with a study of the use of self-critique in literary criticism

Hervé Bazin, célèbre inconnu est le titre éloquent du dernier colloque (2009) mené sous la direction d’A. S. Dufief, à Angers. Parce que le constat presque désabusé d’un cruel paradoxe finit par devenir insupportable, aussi insupportable que la frilosité de nombreux professeurs de lycée et d’université à diffuser au-delà des classes de collège les oeuvres de celui dont 2011 se devrait de fêter le centenaire de la naissance, notre étude a pour objet la mise en évidence d’une exception, l’écriture bazinienne, dans le but d’une modeste mais juste reconnaissance : celle d’un véritable écrivain, injustement mis à part, et qui ne pourra jamais être mieux servi que par l’observation et l’analyse au plus près de ses productions. Force et séduction s’allient presque intuitivement à la simplicité des mots pour rénover l’écriture dans une perspective humaniste, pleine de pudeur, d’humour et d’ironie. Amplifiés par différents procédés de distanciation tels que l’hypotypose ou la parabase, les écrits d’Hervé Bazin, caractérisés par l’emploi judicieux de la première personne, parviennent à transporter le lecteur hors de lui-même dans un plaisir et une réflexion bien caractéristiques d’une littérature remarquable, faisant d’Hervé Bazin, au même titre que le Racine de J. Lemaître, un écrivain "à part"
"Hervé Bazin, célèbre inconnu" was the eloquent title of the recent conference (2009) organized by A.S. Dufief in Angers. There exists a cruel paradox that has become unbearable, quite as unbearable as the fact that many teachers in schools and universities refrain from studying the works of an author whose birth we are about to commemorate.The subject of this study is to highlight the particularities of Hervé Bazin's literary style, in order to acknowledge the major though unfairly ignored writer he is. My close observation and analysis of his writings will reveal how the apparent simplicity of his style works towards a humanistic literary practise, coloured with restraint, humour and irony. Hervé Bazin's style is characterized by literary devices such as ekphrasis and parabasis and a first person narrator which all combine to allow the reader to reach a "pleasure of the text". At the end of my study, Bazin will appear a writer "apart", quite like Racine as delineated all along Jules Lemaître’s books

La problematique de la distanciation semble etre aujourd'hui consideree comme l'une des plus importantes qui soient dans l'analyse des arts contemporains et par les artistes eux-memes. Ainsi, l'orientation qui caracterise ma creation artistique se definit comme une attitude nomade qui se fonde sur la distanciation : representation artistique axee sur le role des mediums ironiques. Je tente de decrire une nouvelle faculte de l'art contemporain qui produit un effet de distanciation et dont se sont deja servis plusieurs artistes (comme les artistes d'arte povera, du pop'art, de la trans-avant-garde italienne, etc. ). Le but de la distanciation serait toujours de me procurer une grande capacite de recul par rapport a moi-meme ; de m'apporter un angle de recherche individuel qui me permette d'acceder a la distance liberatrice qui caracterise la pensee nomade. Si l'esprit nomade nous a tant interesse dans cette recherche, c'est parce qu'il instaure un devenir, et ne fait pas partie de l'histoire ; il en est exclu mais se metamorphose pour reapparaitre autrement, sous des formes inattendues ; il commande une attitude de mise a distance qui suit les lignes de fuite d'un champ social. La distanciation consiste a pouvoir se mettre momentanement a la place d'autrui, a "voir par les yeux d'autrui". On ne connait l'autre qu'en se reconnaissant, soi-meme, autre. Ce qui implique que, pour rencontrer un sujet errant, il faut etre soi-meme sujet errant
The problem of distancing is today considered by artists themselves to be one of the most important problems in the analysis of contemporary art. The direction that my artistic creation has taken could be defined as a nomade attitude which is based on distancing : an artistic representation based on the roles of ironic mediums. I attempt to describe a new type of contemporary art that produces an effect of distancing and that has already been used by several artists (such as the artists of arte povera, of pop art, of the italian trans-avant-garde, etc. ). The purpose of distancing is to provide myself with the ability to stand back from myself and to be able to acceed to a liberating distance from an individual point of view, this distance being characteristic of nomade thought. The reason for which the nomade spirit has interested me so much in this research is that it establishes a future and is not part of history. It is excluded from history but undergoes a metamorphosis and reappears in new and unexpected forms. The nomade spirit is characterised by the maintaining of distance and conforms to the disintegration of the social field. Distancing is characterised by the ability to put oneself in the place of the other and to see "through the other's eyes". One can only recognise the other if one recognises the other in oneself. This implies that in order to recognise a nomade subject, it is necessary to be a nomade oneself

Dans le cadre d'une interdisciplinarité, cette thèse analyse les réseaux médico-sociaux et mesure la performance de la communication au sein même de ces réseaux.D'après les préceptes de l'épistémologie constructiviste, l'observation de la réalité scientifique repose non pas uniquement sur l'observance objective du réel mais aussi sur la connaissance du réel de par sa propre expérience. Nous avons donc mené une analyse à travers une démarche d'enquête longitudinale et prospective par questionnaires, réalisée sur 161 patientes atteintes de cancer du sein : en parallèle, des entretiens qualitatifs ont été réalisés auprès de 40 représentants du personnel soignants.Nous cherchons tout d'abord à mettre en évidence la distanciation communicationnelle entre le personnel soignants et les soignés en mettant l'accent sur l'analyse du traitement de l'information dans un but d'aider les patientes à modifier leurs schémas dysfonctionnels pour aboutir à des schémas fonctionnels par l'intermédiaire des questionnaires.Les résultats d'analyse des enquêtes quantitatives et qualitatives réalisées pendant 14 mois, nous ont permis de mettre en place une approche systémique au sein d'un établissement de santé dans le cadre d'un projet de portail communicationnel entre soignants et soignés. Les analyses prospectives ont en effet révélé l'importance des théories systémiques qui s'appuient elles-mêmes sur les théories de la communication et se fondent sur un modèle de causalité circulaire pour s'intéresser au système au sein duquel l'individu interagit
In the context of an interdisciplinarity, this thesis analyses the socio-medical networks and the performance of communication within these networks. Following the precepts of constructivist epistemology, the observation of the scientific reality is not only based on the objective observance of the reality, but also on the experience-guided knowledge of the reality. We have thus realized an analysis throughout a longitudinal and prospective survey approach by questionnaires, within 161 breast cancer patients. In parallel, qualitative interviews were taken with 40 representatives of the health care staff.First of all, we want to highlight the communicational detachment between the health care providers and the patients by accentuating on the analysis of information handling, with the objective to help the patients to modify their dysfunctional schemas to functional schemas, via questionnaires.The analysis results from the quantitative and qualitative surveys realized during 14 months permitted us to set up a systemic approach within the health care establishment in the form of a project for a communicational portal between health care providers and patients. In fact, the prospective analyses revealed the importance of systemic theories which are themselves based on communication theories and circular causality models to be interested in the system in which the patient interacts

This thesis studies the potency of place in mobilizing social categories, and its implications for both social categories and places. I use the theory of distanciation to study associations between caste identity and place. I conducted an ethnographic study of a caste-based digital group, the Cyber Thiyyars of Malabar, to understand the connections and disconnections between the Thiyya caste and Malabar from the perspectives of different sets of actors involved in the identification of caste, namely the nation-state and members of this caste-based network. The nation-state knows the Thiyya caste in a manner that is disconnected from Malabar, while the Cyber Thiyyars of Malabar seek to re-emphasize the identification of this caste through the region. Participant observation and in-depth interviews indicate that through references to Malabar, the group seeks to establish a Thiyya caste identity that is distinct from the Ezhavas, a caste group within which the nation-state subsumes them.

I demonstrate that references to Malabar serve to counter the stigma that the Cyber Thiyyars of Malabar experience when the spatially abstract categorization of the Thiyyas interacts with notions of caste inferiority/superiority. Further, it serves as a mobilizational tool through which they hope to negotiate with the nation-state for greater access to affirmative action. I also demonstrate that caste identification continues to be relevant to the production of place. Place-based identification of the Thiyyas influences the manner in which the group envisions the physical boundaries of Malabar and how other social groups can belong to this region. Based on this analysis, I argue that framework of distanciation should incorporate not only the experience of place and social relations, but also how they are known and represented.

This dissertation establishes that even though social categories such as caste and place are not conventionally understood to be connected to each other, it is important to study the associations between them. Although the new media and globalization may prompt to us to think that place does not matter anymore, I establish that this caste group uses the language of place to organize and mobilize itself on a stronger basis in precisely this context.

Réorganiser l'oeuvre camusienne en gardant la notion de triptyque chère à l'écrivain, mais en intégrant au théâtre et au récit le journalisme, ouvre de nouvelles perspectives et permet de découvrir dans les articles, la source de l'écriture littéraire. Les trois styles se complètent malgré les divergences stylistiques et l'opposition apparente entre témoignage et distanciation : les écrits journalistiques s'engagent en négligeant parfois l'objectivité, tandis que les récits et les pièces de théâtre aménagent la réalité, mettent en scène un réel idéalisé qui compense les désillusions de Camus devant l'Histoire. Une certaine unité émerge de la confrontation des trois genres : elle repose sur la volonté de témoigner jusqu'au bout, jusque dans les silences et la distance que Camus prend devant le monde et lui-même
Reorganizing Camus' work by keeping the notion of triptych dear to the writer, but also by integrating a journalistic dimension to theater and telling, adds viewpoints and makes it possible to find in newspaper articles the origine of literary writing. The tree styles complete each other in spite of stylistic divergences and the apparent conflict between testimony and distance : journalistic writings are engaged but sometimes neglect objectivity, whereas tellings and theater plays present an idealistic reality which makes up for Camus' disillusions with History. The confrontation of the three styles ends up in a certain unity which lies on the will to testify, even through silences and the distance Camus keeps from the world and from himself

Se laver les mains fréquemment et correctement avec du savon est l’une des mesures de prévention les plus importantes pour lutter contre la propagation du coronavirus, en plus des mesures de distanciation physique, éviter de se toucher le visage (les yeux, le nez et la bouche) et pratiquer une bonne hygiène respiratoire, notamment le port d’un masque le cas échéant . L’accès universel à des installations de lavage des mains avec de l’eau et du savon est aussi essentiel si nous voulons atteindre l’Objectif de développement pour le millénaire (ODD) 6.2. Pourtant 40 pour cent des ménages n’ont pas accès à une installationdotée d’eau et de savon, et 18 pour cent d’entre eux ne disposent d’aucune installation (OMS et UNICEF, 2020a). En réponse à la pandémie mondiale de COVID -19, la Sanitation Learning Hub de l’Institute of Development Studies a rapidement préparé le Compendium sur le lavage des mains dans des contextes pauvres en ressources qui peut servir à appuyer un accès accru à des installations et promouvoir des comportements positifs de lavage des mains durant la pandémie et au-delà.
