Journalistic secrecy is the cornerstone of the journalistic profession and the foundation of media freedom. In the Polish legal system, the source of journalistic secrecy is Art. 15 of the Press Law. However, this right of the journalists – apart from data protecting informants – is not absolute. Exemption is provided for in Art. 180 § 2 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as well as in Art. 261 § 2 of the Civil Procedure Code and Art. 83 § 2 of the Administrative Procedure Code. Exemption from journalistic secrecy in a criminal trial can only be granted by a court, and only if it is necessary in the interests of justice and there is no other evidence that could be used to replace the journalist’s testimony. This text contains polemical comments in relation to Journalistic secrecy and exemption rules published in “Studia Iuridica” 2021, Vol. 7.

Journalistic secrecy is professional. In the light of Article 15 of the Press Law (Pr.L.) the journalist is obliged to keep secret the identity of his informants and the authors of the press material, the mail to the editorial office or other material of this nature, if they deserve the right to remain anonymmous. This obligation also applies to other persons employed in editorial offices, press publishing houses and other press organizational units. In addition, it covers any information, the disclosure of which could violate the legitimate interests of third parties. This corresponds to the content of Article 12 § 1 (2) Pr.L., according to which a journalist is obliged to protect the personal rights and interests of informants acting in good faith and other people who trust him or her. Breaking journalistic secrecy is a crime prosecuted ex officio. However, in certain situations journalistic secrecy is excluded (Article 16 Pr.L. and Article 180 of the Code of Criminal Procedure).

The digital evolution in the journalistic arena forces journalists to adapt their practices to the rules that come from the economic arena associated with commercialization. Reduced advertising revenue has resulted in the media tending to prioritize financial survival over journalistic principles or ethics. This research aims to describe how journalists struggle to define journalistic practices amidst the pressure of commercialization, using Bourdieu's theoretical perspective. The method used is metajournalistic discourse, using metajournalistic documents in the form of scripts written by digital journalists who broadcast on Remotivi. Metajournalistic discourse is a textual analysis method that focuses on how journalists tell stories about their journalistic practices, and these stories are assumed to shape the journalistic arena they inhabit. The findings show that journalists experience a paradox in defining and carrying out journalistic practices that are considered ideal. On the one hand, journalists appear to carry out journalistic practices in a situation with a high degree of heteronomy. On the other hand, journalists also seek to develop resistance by maintaining or developing definitions of journalistic practices or norms that are close to the autonomy pole, for example, by defining their journalistic practice with the term "journalistic jihad.” These idealized journalistic definitions or norms (which prioritize verification, accuracy, and adherence to journalistic firewalls) are shared and circulated through discourse texts to become resistance narratives.

This study analyses how Indonesia enforces the law to protect the freedom of the press for foreign journalists and imposes strict visa regulations on them. The method used to conduct this research is the normative legal method. This study shows that Indonesia upholds human rights such as freedom of expression, but there are no specific legal rules to uphold such rights over foreign journalists. Rules are only available on the enactment of a journalistic visa. Therefore, it is recommended for Indonesia's Lawmakers to compose a new Law to uphold the rights and obligations of foreign journalists while they are in Indonesia and develop a monitoring body for foreign journalists so that Indonesia can ensure the protection of freedom of the press and the national security. It is impossible to imagine journalism without ethical norms and rules. All journalists, regardless of the field in which they work, must always adhere to these norms. This is primarily due to the nature, function and scope of the media. The audience meets any article in the media with great sensitivity. The journalist must thoroughly investigate the facts and events and not make mistakes. The journalist must be especially careful in his statements and examples. Thus, touching a person's reputation is unaccepted not only in society, but also in journalism in general. The journalist must distinguish between criticism and insult and see these differences. A journalist's professional ethics and professional duties are in harmony with each other. In the context of professional ethics, debt is considered an important quality. The professional ethics of a journalist regulates his responsibility to the public - readers, listeners, viewers for accurate, objective information. Professional ethics has emerged in the form of historically unwritten "laws". In general, a person based on the voice of conscience, justice and socially accepted rules in any field of activity has two main goals: to raise the level of necessity and appropriateness of the profession in addition to the executor of this profession; awareness of responsibility to society and people. As journalism serves people and society as a public institution, it can face a variety of challenges on a daily basis. One of these problems is ethical principles. The article discusses how sports journalists follow these principles.

The article analyzes the specifics of the audience's perception of journalistic materials about minors. The research methods chosen were theoretical and practical methods aimed at finding out the audience’s reaction to various journalistic materials about minors. For this purpose, we used such theoretical methods as surveys, generalization, analysis, and descriptive methods to comprehensively assess the specifics of public perception of this type of journalistic work. The research methodology included two stages. The first stage of the practical research consisted of identifying and analyzing six Ukrainian media for violations. To do this, we examined such electronic media as «UNIAN», «Ukrayinska Pravda», and «RBC-UKRAINE». In the second stage, we conducted a survey of a focus group aged 18 to 30 using the electronic resource Google Forms. The results of the study were an analysis of the coverage of minors in the Ukrainian media and the audience’s reaction to such materials, which made it possible to fully characterize and understand the situation. After analyzing the research data, we concluded that media workers (journalists) often did not adhere to ethical and moral norms when covering events and did not adhere to journalistic standards. We believe that in the future this will have negative consequences for both the media worker and the minor, creating conditions for negative reactions from the audience. If journalists adhere to these rules, the quality of their work will improve significantly, which in turn will cause a positive reaction from the audience and will not distort the perception of the material and reduce the range of negative emotions in society. This article explores the influence of social media giant Facebook on the journalistic field by examining how news organizations responded to Facebook’s algorithm tweak, announced in June 2014, that prioritized videos directly uploaded to the social media platform. In announcing the tweak, Facebook, an agent external to the journalistic field, did not just change its own internal rules but also imposed them on users, including news organizations traditionally governed by the journalistic field’s own set of rules. Based on large-scale posting activity data collected from 232 Facebook Pages operated by major news organizations in the United States, this study found that most news organizations complied with Facebook’s updated rules on Native Videos by significantly increasing their social video production, opening up the journalistic field to the influence of an agent external to journalism. But while digital-native and broadcast news publishers were more responsive in adapting to the tweak, print brands were slower to respond.

The use of language in making news is called journalistic language, namely language that is easy to understand and not complicated. One of the mass media that presents news is radio, until now Radio Republik Indonesia still exists as a government-owned public broadcasting institution. The study results show that the coverage strategy is divided into three stages. In the first stage, there are two strategies: online research and editorial meetings. In the second stage, the strategies are the technology utilization in communication applications form, the close relationship between journalists and fellow journalists and resources, and utilizing citizen journalism. In the last stage, the strategy generally applies technology because there are no significant obstacles. Of these three stages, there are five coverage strategies, and the most dominant strategy applied during the Covid-19 pandemic is the use of WhatsApp and Zoom Meeting. Furthermore, straight news dominates the Covid-19 news writing model because the rules limit the interview duration.

This is carried out by comparing its news outputs with those of The New York Times based on the markers – or boundaries – that defined traditional journalistic practice, particularly news values, topics, sources, formats, and norms. The analysis found that while news articles produced by BuzzFeed are exhibiting some departures from traditional journalistic practice, in general, BuzzFeed is playing by the rules, which might explain its legitimation as a recognized agent in the field.

This research aims to assess Lebanese media organizations’ and journalists’ readiness and adaptation to the new digital era requirements. Journalism has always been affected by technology. Adopting new information and communications technology has obliged changes in journalistic practices and led to new business models and journalistic practices. For example, implementing Newsroom Computer Systems (NRCs) in media companies has led to radical changes in the departments of these organizations, and in particular in the newsrooms. The journalists in newsrooms are the human factor that is considered an essential element in this change. It touched on the depths of productivity and the mode of journalistic work. In the new era of media convergence, journalists are called upon to follow this trend (modern journalism) and become more versatile, where their work becomes streamlined and redesigned. The new and more flexible journalistic practices emerging in newspaper and television production, in combination with online journalism, have a profound effect on the role of journalists and their competencies requirements. Having multi competencies is explained by mastering the basic rules (writing, etc.) in the journalism profession and digital knowledge related to this profession (visualizing data, using the digital tools necessary for work, etc.). This study uses quantitative, descriptive, and deductive approaches supported by a structured survey questionnaire. The sample in this research constituted 96 respondent journalists selected conveniently. Data were analyzed descriptively and reported in charts for clarity. Results show that from an overall analysis, Lebanese media organizations and journalists are moderately prepared to deal with the digital era requirements. Most of the research variables scored between 40 to 50% in terms of preparedness and functionality during the digital transformation era. The research implications show that in Lebanon, as elsewhere in the media industry, the human factor’s digital culture plays an essential role in the advancement of the companies towards the digital environment. In the Lebanese organizations’ case, the economic and monetary crisis factors besides the human factor, have affected the technical implementation and the digital transformation of the media outlets. In this media landscape, the role of academic institutions (i.e., universities and research centers) must be proactive to define the new set of digital and journalistic skills required and needed to enhance the transformation towards the digital multitasking and cross-platform profiles needed to adopt the digital mindset effectively and efficiently.

This paper investigates the problems encountered in the translation of English journalistic texts into Standard Arabic (henceforth SA). The analysis presented in this study clearly shows that the most common problems in journalistic translation are attributed to: (a) the inappropriate selection of the equivalent TL word or expression, (b) the inability to observe the syntactic and stylistic differences between the SL and the TL and (c) the translated text may contain violations of some TL rules. By drawing the attention of translators to the translational problems that await them, we can immensely enhance the quality of the output text. There is another reason for our interest in the translation of journalistic texts: translation is regarded by purists " as a bigger menace to the purity of Arabic language than that of the Colloquial dialects." (Abdelfattah 1996:134); for instance, journalistic translation may pave the way for foreign-language influence on SA in "the domain of syntax, style, and lexicon" (Abdelfattah 1996:134). Thus most of the changes that occur in the style and structure of Arabic occur through the Arab journalists who are familiar with European languages, especially English and through the Arab translators who render English journalistic texts into Arabic. As Holes (1995:255) puts it, Today, more than ever, it is in the language of the press, Television and radio that external influences on Arabic are most obvious, and constant exposure to this 'media MSA' seems to be having reaching effects on the vocabulary, grammar and phraseology of the Arabic used by educated Arabs in many other contexts written or spoken . .

Journalism, as a form of public service, requires for the journalists to be guided by specific rules of professional ethics. The quality of journalistic messages depends on it, and thus also the way in which the recipients of these messages learn about reality. The aim of the research presented in the article was to find out the opinions of journalism students on how they perceive journalists in terms of the ethical principles they apply in their work. The research covered students of journalism and social communication at the University of Rzeszów. The results of the research shows that this assessment is relatively critical – journalists are perceived as occasionally breaking certain standards and guided by both the social interest and the pragmatical development of their own careers.

The aim of this research is to find out how the Code of Ethics is applied to the Legal and Criminal News Photo in Jambiupdate.co itself. The research method used is qualitative with data analysis using Charles Sanders Peirce semiotics. The results of the study show that in general there are journalists who are not in accordance with the Code of Ethics. Likewise with the Journalistic Code of Ethics which regulates the ethics of journalists and the media in broadcasting photos in a news story. Jambiupdate.co online media, like other online media, will certainly try to apply the Photojournalism Code of Ethics in every news story, but the implementation is certainly not as easy as expected, because it is the principle of news speed which sometimes does not pay attention to the Code of Ethics itself and the lack of communication between journalists in the field. with the editorial team. In addition, violations of the photojournalism code of ethics are negligence or forgetting to blur photos that contain sadistic elements and the victim or perpetrator is a woman and a minor who is protected by the photojournalism code of ethics law.

Few studies on female TV journalists in the Middle East have been conducted. Neither have Bourdieu’s theoretical concepts been used to analyse women journalists’ experiences of their professional practice and their strategies for navigating a male-dominated media world in the Middle East. For this unique study, ten Kurdish women journalists that work for six different TV stations in Iraqi Kurdistan were interviewed. Informed by different forms of capital, the thematic analysis revealed four themes that capture the respondents’ experiences and strategies: coping with perceptions of pretty dolls and honorary men; coping with the threat of violence and a bad reputation; coping with the gendered distribution of news assignments; and tackling glass ceilings and unwritten rules. A particularly interesting result of the study was that while the strategies range from proclaiming any news hard news to openly defying orders from the managers, and to claiming that one’s ability to advance depends on having a strong personality, the focus is consistently on individualistic survival strategies. When masculinity and male norms still dominate the contents of symbolic capital, it may result in seemingly counterproductive practices such as the lack of a distinct ‘we’ feeling among women journalists. For women journalists, the cost of transforming their cultural and social capital into symbolic capital that is effective in the journalistic field is affected by both the journalistic field and the society at large, which creates contextually bound obstacles to women journalists in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Citizen journalism or citizen journalism can now be done by anyone, anywhere, without special knowledge in delivering the news. This can be a severe problem because some citizen journalists only deliver news that occurs around the real world without fulfilling the news elements, namely 5W + 1H, and do not understand the journalistic code of ethics. So that the news delivered can violate the rules in journalism. Citizen journalism education action is needed to solve problems in most people in Indonesia, especially among students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Kalampangan, Palangkaraya. For this reason, all students must be able to participate in making social media a means of journalism by using journalism principles such as writing procedures and journalistic code of ethics. In this urnal examines the formulation of Islamic journalistic ethics. The rules in carrying out journalistic duties are inseparable from the teachings of Islam which are guided by the Qur'an. So far, some Journalism has made western press theory a guide to the implementation of journalistic duties rather than press theory in an Islamic perspective. Thus, the purpose of this activity is expected to add insight to readers about the implementation of journalism in accordance with Islamic law and can be applied in journalism activities. The field of journalism in Russia is undergoing continuous transformation influenced by the intricate political and legal landscape, as well as the dynamic advancements in technology and resulting social shifts. These changes disrupt established professional norms, roles, values, and practices within the journalism community. These changes disrupt established professional norms, roles, values, and practices within the journalism community. The discussion surrounding professional journalistic standards is not only prompted by the aforementioned factors but also by the gradual integration of AI technologies into everyday journalistic practices. Against this background, the author conducted a study based on 11 semi-structured interviews with the representatives of the professional community and devoted to the issues of professional identity of journalists, the boundaries of the profession and the transformation of professional standards. The study showed that despite some discrepancies in viewpoints, professionals emphasize the paramount importance of clearly defined “rules of engagement” that are comprehensible to both the journalism community and its audience. While core values remain largely unchanged, practical aspects such as formatting requirements and acceptable journalistic practices demonstrate adaptability to shifting socio-political, economic, and cultural contexts. Notably, values are consistent across traditional and new media platforms, whereas technical and practical standards exhibit greater flexibility and responsiveness to evolving norms. Ultimately, the specific standards adopted by individual editorial teams are contingent upon the media format and niche they occupy within the industry.

The article deals with nonverbal communication in the context of journalistic practice. The interpretation of nonverbal cues as one of the professional competencies of mass media workers is defined. The coverage of this topic in Ukrainian and foreign scientific and educational literature is analyzed. As a result the insufficient consideration of the basic rules of nonverbal interpretation for mass media workers was revealed. Four basic principles of nonverbal communication in the context of a journalistic practice are considered. Understanding that nonverbal means are mostly perceived and transmitted unconsciously allows media workers to avoid misinterpreting their own behavior and the signals of an interviewee. Also it helps to prevent bias effect for media audience caused by nonverbal behavior of an interviewer. The concept of "starting point" in nonverbal communication could contribute to better preparation for the conversation with the interlocutor. Options for determining the "average" nonverbal behavior of the interviewee are offered. The awareness of the influence of the attitude to another person on the perception of his nonverbal characteristics is also important for avoiding bias and changing tactic whіle communicating with difficult respondents. The switch from the interpretation of a single signal to the considering them cumulatively reduces the probability of error. The article considers the concepts of nonverbal synchrony and mirroring from the point of view of their use by journalists. Three control methods that can be used by a mass media worker to check his interpretation's conclusions based on the interlocutor's non-verbal signals are presented. They are indirect open question, direct closed question and silence (pause). It is concluded that journalist's misinterpretation of his own and others' nonverbal signals could lead to the violation of professional ethics and international standards of a presenting information. The main functional possibilities provided by the interpretation of nonverbal means are listed. Prospects for further research are outlined, including formulating standards of nonverbal behavior in the media in terms of thematic and genre requirements.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the Egyptian Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 for 2020, as well as its implications for journalistic practice. More specifically, the focal point of this study was to explore how Egyptian journalists interpret the law and its implication for press freedom in Egypt. The underpinning theoretical framework was informed by the Authoritarian school of thought. Questionnaires were distributed to 199 journalists from both independent and semi-governmental representing thirteen official newspapers of Egypt, while in-depth interviews were done with (3) Editors, (4) journalists, and (3) human rights lawyers. The finding of the study indicated that the government placed restrictions on journalists by using Data Protection Law relating to the media. That law is negatively impacting journalists and media houses. It was clear from the findings that the journalists see the law as an obstacle to media independence, as it allows the government to exercise greater information control through digital policy and puts rules of regulation against journalists.

The main objectives of the study are: elaboration of the operative algorithm for professional online journalists under information warfare (IW) conditions; analysis of the modern methods and tools for the effective verification of information; application of the decision support systems (DSS) for the content distribution in social media; specification of the set of rules for network reporters to itemize their activity. In this study the issue of verifying the information received from the World Wide Web is analysed, in particular, the information spread during the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in 2014–2015. We also present and justify some modern means of counteracting the spread of intentionally distorted information and hostile propaganda. We focus on using content analysis, comparative analysis, full-text searching, pattern recognition, and open-source intelligence (OSINT) method. Through using specific facts and findings we analyse the features of the work of an online journalist during the warfare and modern digital tools for content search, verification, comparison and analysis. The results and conclusions of this investigation allow generalizing and structuring some methods and techniques of content verification. A number of rules and helpful hints for enhancing the efficiency of online journalists are proposed. Current trends in development of social media allow predicting further increase of the Internet audience and consequently an increasing amount of information on the web. With the development of citizen journalism (street journalism) in Ukraine, the significance level of journalistic responsibility for information dissemination in mass media has been constantly increasing. Out of a huge amount of reports and data, a journalist must be able to identify the most accurate and up-to-date ones, check them promptly, and distribute on cross-media platforms. Under such conditions, an online reporter is obliged to possess modern skills of dealing with digital tools for content verification, and to keep in contact with experts whom he can ask for advice.

Over the past two decades, the practice of investigative journalism has been reconstructed via the rise of journalistic networks around the world that have layered collaboration atop what had long been an individual pursuit. Among the recent successes of collaborative investigative journalism was the cross-border effort to expose the tax haven leaks that included the Panama Papers (2016). Due to such notable accomplishments, research on cross-border collaboration is increasing, but the ways in which this pooling of resources, time, and networks has impacted practice on a daily basis remain under-investigated. This article looks at how organizations and actors in emerging and legacy newsrooms are negotiating their routines and roles while developing new practices in investigative journalism. It uses three organizations as cases: Bristol Cable, a journalistic co-op operating at the community/local level; the Bureau Local, a local/national data-coordinating news desk; and <em>The Guardian</em>, a legacy media company that has long operated at the national/global level. This article finds that, in the transitions of traditional organizations and journalists and the emergence of new innovative organizations and non-journalistic actors, actors involved in collaborative investigative journalism deploy a language of justification regarding rules between the new and the old. It also finds that concepts such as coordination are part of this negotiation, and that knowledge and knowledge generation are taking place within a traditional understanding of journalism, as the “new” is normalized over time.

This paper analyses the main rules to be followed for the control of the retrieval elements in sports photographs. Therefore, the study focuses on sports journalistic photographs and the regularisation of three elements used to retrieve the information: sportsperson, sport and date. Our business reality makes it unfeasible to carry out a detailed analysis of journalistic photographs, due to the need for speed, the increase in the number of photographs due to the new digital formats being used (Sánchez-Vigil, Marcos-Recio, 2009) and the lack of human resources.

The challenges faced by qualitative journalism are numerous, and the effects are clearly obvious at society level, when info rmation consumption from various sources is increasing; however, we find that only some of the users are qualified to undertake and analyze data and journalistic content. There are numerous pressures registered by professional journalism, equally as much a s creating journalistic content regarding the rules of the trade can be a difficult task for the non professional author. One of the first forms of such pressure was generated by the economic crisis in 2008, imposing a restructuring of media organizations. Another valence of pressure consists in the inability and slowness of active journalists to adapt to the rigors of digital media. A main focus and of major importance is the re tabloidization phenomenon in Romanian and international media, on every branch : written press, radio, television, and online platforms. The technological revolution has been a favourable breeding ground for commercial television channels, less inclined to the rigors of deontology. A further development is the citizen journalism , var ied in representation and extremely active. This study aims for the complicated mass media citizen journalism relation, as well as the challenges of qualitative journalism.

Choosing a quality leader, especially a political leader, depends on the information that voters receive in the election process. Two important components that play a role in providing information are political parties and the mass media. Between these two components, the mass media holds an important key. Therefore this study aims to determine the management of news coverage in the mass media; how about the news, especially published political news, is processed ethically within the framework of management functions in general. This research was conducted at AJI Kupang City using a qualitative approach. Observations and interviews, supported by scientific references, are techniques for obtaining and analyzing data. The results of the study show that news management in the mass media is generally in line with management functions. The problem is in the online media. In online media, news management does not function properly due to limited human resources. Field studies show that the media and journalists are caught up in ethical issues when reporting on political events; especially news about prospective political leaders. The mass media and journalists are trapped in a decision that violates the journalistic code of ethics by siding with a particular candidate. This partiality can be seen in every report regarding a candidate who is supported by other candidates. Self-integrity is the reason journalists are trapped in this problem. As a solution, researchers offer a management model that is expected to minimize violations of journalistic ethics. The news management model in applying management functions, pays attention to the following elements: 1) Issue exploration team, 2) Supervisory Board, 3) Complaint Center, 4) Education and Training implementing agency, 5) Technical Rules

In law and mass media studies, morals and ethics are linked to the obligations of journalists, such as; the implementation of journalistic code of ethics in every journalistic activity is subject to legal institutions and regulations to carry out with good etiquette as the provisions in the law, which are a set of principles and rules that have generally been accepted and approved by the public. In this regard, ethical principles for the journalistic profession provide a legal basis for managing news in the media in an orderly manner in the relationship between legal subjects. In developments in media institutions in Indonesia, the aspects of share ownership in the media (leadership), economics and media marketing will greatly determine the ideology that is promoted by the media, where this ideology, if it leads to a political economy approach, will create media actors who are less familiar with communication ethics. Communication ethics here are positioned as mere instruments and become less meaningful in determining program content, program quality and media actors' respect for human rights that are represented by individuals as sources of information. This choice raises communication ethics on media actors who are considered to have experienced a reduction. Media players as a profession have taken a shortcut by referring to the principle of benefit, prioritizing the principle of benefit in its coverage and news, which is also paradoxical with the professional ethics it carries. To make matters worse, the absence of respect for the presumption of innocence in the name of the public's interest in obtaining information will increasingly make the mass media and media actors as dominant persons in reconstructing and manipulating social reality. Up to this point, the choice of the tendency to interpret the political economy approach or the ethical approach, in fact both of them do not have obvious legal implications, all of them are returned to each individual who is involved in activities in mass media institutions.

There are two principal approaches to discourse analysis, the multi-dimensional approach and the modular approach. The first is proposed by kerbrat-Orecchioni (1997) and it tries to combine eclectically the results and findings of studies on different dimensions of discourse organization in order to achieve a more comprehensive picture. The second approach is initiated by NØlke, Motsch and Roulet. Relying on NØlke and Motsch, Roulet (1997) suggests an approach to discourse analysis that rests on the modularity of mind hypothesis proposed by Jerry Fodor (1983). According to Fodor (ibid.), mind is a computational engine which is peripherally modular. The model put forward and modified repeatedly by Eddy Roulet (1997) is called the Geneva model of discourse analysis. Roulet (ibid.) claims that a modular approach constitutes an interesting and powerful methodology for describing the complexity of discourse organization. Different facets of discourse or talks-in-interaction are broken down into their simplest primitive elements. Discourse has situational, textual and linguistic components. Each of them consists of central and non-central modules whose results are coupled according to certain meta-rules. In this study, I apply Geneva model of discourse analysis to some Arabic journalistic texts. It has been discovered that Geneva model of discourse analysis is a successful tool in describing the discourse organization of journalistic texts in Arabic
