Resumo:

Le procès de canonisation de Nicolas de Tolentino, instruit en 1325 par le pape Jean XXII, contient le nom d’environ 1300 personnes. Complété par quelques documents locaux (en particulier une riformanza de Tolentino datée de 1312), il permet de se livrer à une étude anthroponymique des hommes et des femmes des Marches dans la première moitié du XIVe siècle. Cette étude nuance les résultats des recherches anthroponymiques sur l’Italie médiévale, très souvent «urbanocentriques» . On constate de très fortes fluctuations anthroponymiques et l’extrême difficulté des témoins, et du notaire marchésan, à mettre en forme écrite et à latiniser des nomina usuels (oraux et vulgaires). On met en lumière les différences entre les modes de désignation des hommes et ceux des femmes : les premiers sont majoritairement désignés par un nom à deux éléments dont le second, au génitif, est presque toujours le nom du père et ne se transmet pas. Les secondes portent un nomen proprium, parfois laudatif, soit suivi par le(s) nom(s) de leur époux, très souvent accompagné de uxor, soit suivi du ou des noms(s) de leur père, avec ou sans la médiation de filia. Derrière les déclarations d’identité des acteurs sociaux et leur mise par écrit se jouent des enjeux de domination. L’identité des Marchésanes du début du XIVe siècle est sous l’étroite dépendance et le contrôle des hommes. leur mise par écrit se jouent des enjeux de domination. Abstract Marking the eightieth anniversary of the founding of the celebrated series of patristic texts, Sources chrétiennes, the article considers the place and role of the series in the patristic renewal that occurred in the Roman Catholic Church in the twentieth century, and the many connections and resonances between that renewal and the patristic renewal that occurred contemporaneously in the Orthodox Church. Key writings of pioneers of that renewal on the respective sides, especially Henri de Lubac, Jean Daniélou, and Georges Florovsky, are studied, and the article ends with some reflections on the significance of the patristic heritage for current Roman Catholic-Orthodox theological dialogue.

Abstract: Jean Baudrillard is one among many prominent thinkers of postmodernism. One among many his notable idea is the Hyperreal In his book Simulacra and Simulation, Baudrillard’s proposes the idea of something that transcend beyond the state of fake and reality, the Hyperreal. This concept can be found as a theme in lyrics of a song titled Idol by Yoasobi. This paper try to dissect the lyrics and finding the implication of Baudrillard’s concept of Hyperreal within the implicit and explicit meanings of the lyrics. Idol is a certain profession that has gain significant rise in the 21th century. The common perception is that they are selling ‘fake identities’ to their audience. Nevertheless, the truth is more complicated than it is as with using Baudrillard’s theoretical framework of the Hyperreal, idol has cross the boundary between falsehood and authenticity and become ‘real’ in their own sense. Keywords: Baudrillard, Hyperreal, Simulation, Idol, Yoasobi Abstrak: Jean Baudrillard adalah salah satu dari banyak pemikir terkemuka di bidang pascamodernisme. Salah satu gagasan terkenalnya adalah Hyperreal. Dalam bukunya yang berjudul Simulacra and Simulation, Baudrillard mengusulkan konsep akan sesuatu yang melampaui keadaan palsu dan kenyataan, yaitu Hyperreal. Konsep ini dapat ditemukan sebagai tema dalam lirik lagu berjudul Idol oleh Yoasobi. Artikel penelitian ini mencoba menguraikan lirik lagu tersebut dan menemukan implikasi konsep Hyperreal dari Baudrillard dalam makna tersirat dan tersurat dari lirik. Idol adalah profesi tertentu yang mengalami peningkatan signifikan pada abad ke-21. Persepsi umum tentang idol adalah bahwa mereka menjual 'identitas palsu' kepada audiens. Namun, kenyataannya lebih rumit daripada itu, dengan menggunakan kerangka teoritis Hyperreal dari Baudrillard, profesi Idol telah melampaui batasan antara kepalsuan dan keaslian sehingga menjadi 'nyata' dalam arti mereka sendiri. This article contains select comments and reviews on Noh Hamlet and Noh Othello in English and Noh King Lear in Japanese. The scripts from these performances were arranged based on Shakespeare’s originals and directed on stage and performed in English by Kuniyoshi Munakata from the early 1980s until 2014. Also, the whole text of Munakata’s Noh Macbeth in English (Munakata himself acted as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in one play) is for the first time publicized. Jean Senebier: A Critical Exploration of Geneva’s Antiquities – This manuscript presents an in-depth analysis of Jean Senebier’s seminal work on the antiquities of Geneva. Senebier, a notable figure in the late 18th century, initiated a year-long scholarly discourse with his Essay on Geneva, first introduced in the Geneva Journal in 1788 and continuing through mid-1791. This study examines multiple manuscript versions of Senebier’s essay, preserved in the Biblioth\`{e}que de Gen\`{e}ve, and includes a meticulously transcribed annex of the original program. Senebier’s exploration offers a multifaceted perspective on Geneva’s historical artifacts, encompassing an array of elements from architectural structures to medieval fortifications. His methodological approach, grounded in extensive research of books and manuscripts, involved rigorous comparative analysis and consultations with contemporary scholars. Senebier’s work, distinguished by his critical evaluation and incorporation of iconography, also involved direct on-site explorations. Although following Jean de la Corbi\`{e}re, recognized as Geneva’s first proto-archaeologist, Senebier’s distinctive critical methodology aligns him closely with both historians and proto-archaeologists of his time in Geneva. This manuscript underscores Senebier’s significant contribution to the historiography and archaeology of Geneva’s antiquities.

En 2003, Dirk Van der Cruysse publiait le récit de cinq années aux Indes hollandaises d’un Français, « mercenaire de la VOC ». Malgré son identification, l’origine et le milieu social de l’auteur restaient mystérieux : Jean Guidon de Chambelle, protestant parisien, affirmait pourtant le poids de ses recommandations. Des documents, issus du minutier central des notaires de Paris ou des archives du Châtelet, ont permis de reconstituer la parentèle de Jean Guidon, sieur de Chambelle. Le vaste réseau qu’elle dessine, avec une large assise géographique dans l’arrière-pays des côtes atlantiques, fait apparaître le rôle déterminant des calvinistes parisiens dans les relations du royaume de France avec les Provinces-Unies, ainsi que leur soutien financier à la régence pendant la Fronde. La contextualisation du texte de Guidon a aussi permis de comprendre les raisons de son départ : joueur pathologique, sa famille l’éloignait pour un temps d’un environnement qui l’emprisonnait dans son addiction. La construction du texte révèle la foi calviniste du sieur de Chambelle, mise au service de son retour vers les siens.

Despite continuing criticism of public education, experimentally demonstrated and field tested teaching methods have been ignored, rejected, and abandoned. Instead of a stable consensus regarding best teaching practices, there seems only an unending succession of innovations. A longstanding educational doctrine appears to underlie this anomalous state of affairs. Termed developmentalism, it presumes "natural" ontogenesis to be optimal and it requires experimentally demonstrated teaching practices to overcome a presumption that they interfere with an optimal developmental trajectory. It also discourages teachers and parents from asserting themselves with children. Instead of effective interventions, it seeks the preservation of a postulated natural perfection. Developmentalism's rich history is expressed in a literature extending over 400 years. Its notable exponents include Jean Jacques Rousseau, John Dewey, and Jean Piaget; and its most recent expressions include "developmentally appropriate practice" and "constructivism." In the years during which it gained ascendance, developmentalism served as a basis for rejecting harsh and inhumane teaching methods. Today it impedes efforts to hold schools accountable for student academic achievement.

This paper examines bidding in over 1,700 knockout auctions used by a bidding cartel (or ring) of stamp dealers in the 1990s. The knockout was conducted using a variant of the model studied by Daniel Graham, Robert Marshall, and Jean-Francois Richard (1990). Following a reduced form examination of these data, damages, induced inefficiency, and the ring's benefit from colluding are estimated using a structural model in the spirit of Emmanuel Guerre, Isabelle Perrigne, and Quang Vuong (2000). A notable finding is that nonring bidders suffered damages that were of the same order of magnitude as those of the sellers. (JEL D43, D44, L12)

El 16 de noviembre de 1984, Jean Pictet, vicepresidente de honor del CICR, pronunció, en el acto de homenaje que le rindió la Universidad de Ginebra por su septuagésimo aniversario, una conferencia titulada: «La formatión del derecho internacional humanitario».Este texto*, que es una notable síntesis del desarrollo del derecho humanitario en el siglo XX, finaliza con algunas conclusiones generales que van mucho más allá del propósito initial del texto. Son una reflexión sobre las difíciles relaciones entre los imperativos humanitarios y las necesidades militares y políticas, entre el idealismo y el pragmatismo, así como sobre la responsabilidad que todos tenemos de dar a conocer y aplicar un derecho que se deriva no solo de la humanidad, sino también del sentido común.Diez años después, estas palabras siguen siendo de palpitante actualidad y adquieren una significación particular, especialmente en relación con las credent es violaciones del derecho; son también un llamamiento, sobre todo a la juventud, para que viva y difunda el derecho humanitario.Hemos pensado que se imponía volver a publicar dichas conclusiones en este número del 125º aniversario de la Revista, que evoca el pasado y, al mismo tiempo, cuestiona el futuro. Las ideas de Jean Pictet, que tanto ha aportado al derecho humanitario, son siempre dignan de reflexión.

This paper explores the relationship between humanity and violence. Violence is often the result of a failure to promote empathy and solidarity. This is exemplified by the Holocaust and the New Order regime in Indonesia. The paper highlights the complex nature of human emancipation and emphasizes the importance of considering the well-being of others as well as one's own self. The concept of emancipation is evident in the philosophies of notable figures including Descartes, Kant, Marx, and Comte. Sartre, too, advocated for humanist freedom, but conceded that unlimited freedom can lead to egoism. This paper will center on the ideas of Jean-Paul Sartre, ultimately concluding that the destruction of humanity can be traced back to anthropological and social aspects of society.

Four successive generations of the Becquerel family were educated at the prestigious French scientific institution of higher learning, the École Polytechnique, and became physics professors at the French Museum of Natural History. Alexandre Edmond Becquerel was the son of Antoine César (1788– 1878), discoverer of piezoelectricity; father of Antoine Henri (1852– 1908), who discovered radioactivity; and the grandfather of Jean Antoine (1878–1953), who is best known for his work on relativity and the discovery of polarization rotation in the presence of a magnetic field. Though all of these notable scientists carried out a variety of experiments related to optics, it was Alexandre Edmond Becquerel who made the greatest contributions to the field.

Est-il possible de retracer une rumeur ayant circulé au Québec dans les années 1770-1790 ? C’est ce que se propose de faire cette étude au sujet de bruits selon lesquels la France aurait voulu reconquérir le Canada. Parmi les sources exploitées : la correspondance d’une religieuse (Marie-Catherine Juchereau-Duchesnay), le témoignage de deux notaires (Jean-Baptiste Badeaux et Simon Sanguinet), une brochure de propagande (attribuée à François Baby) et une lettre forgée par George Washington et le marquis de Lafayette. En contextualisant la production et la diffusion de ces rumeurs dans la province, on tente ici de comprendre l’état d’esprit de la population rurale au moment de la guerre d’Indépendance américaine et dans les années qui suivirent. Cette étude de l’imaginaire de la reconquête se veut une contribution aux travaux sur la rumeur et à l’histoire des mentalités canadiennes par le biais des traces de l’oralité trouvées dans l’archive.

Non-faith-based social work educators and researchers have a poor understanding of what might motivate Christians in social work and whether Christian motivations have any place in social work. On the other hand, Christians have difficulty articulating actions inspired by their faith in ways that others can comprehend despite feeling misunderstood. The focus of this article is to present the framework of faith-inspired praxis of love and lay the groundwork for intergroup dialogue. The framework draws from the works of Jane Addams, Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King, Jr., Jean Vanier, and Mary Jo Leddy, five notable leaders in Christian spirituality and public initiatives, to discuss their conceptualization of faith, love, and praxis. Practice and research implications of this framework for social work are discussed.

Cuando Jean de La Bruyère empezó a escribir los primeros textos de Los caracteres, la máxima había ya alcanzado un lugar preponderante como género privilegiado de la crítica ética y moral del Clasicismo francés. No bastante, la cuarta edición de su obra (publicada en 1689) introdujo ciertas innovaciones ideológicas y escriturales que trascendieron las convenciones de la máxima clásica. Al objetar tajantemente la exposición discursiva propia de la discusión filosófica y la argumentación teológica, La Bruyère favoreció, en contra de las abstracciones sistémicas, el análisis fragmentario y la conjetura demostrativa. Este acontecimiento representó un hecho literario históricamente notable, pues le permitió a la máxima alcanzar una modernidad sin precedentes, al convertir el lenguaje, a la vez, en instrumento y materia de investigación y examen de sí mismo.

La théologie pratique connait un renouvellement de ses problématiques auquel contribue de façon notable La nouvelle théologie pratique de Marcel Viau, professeur à l'Université Laval. Se réclamant des approches pragmatistes et néo-pragmatistes, Viau s'y interroge sur les conditions de possibilité du discours de théologie pratique et sur le rapport de ce discours à son objet. Sa recherche conduit à une théologie pratique pragmatiste qui assume pleinement son enracinement dans l'interaction lanre. Après avoir présenté l'ouvrage de Viau, son collègue Jean-Guy Nadeau, de l'Université de Montréal, lui pose quelques questions sur l'objet propre de la théologie pratique et sur la spécificité de celle-ci par rapport aux théologies fondamentale et systématique. ABSTRACT André Brouillet’s (1857-1914) famous group tableau ‘A Clinical Lesson at La Salpêtrière’ (French: Une leçon clinique à la Salpêtrière) is possibly the most celebrated painting in the history of neurology. His depiction of one of Jean-Martin Charcot’s legendary “Tuesday Lessons” includes portraits of not only one of the master’s most famous patients, but also of his pupils, the heirs to the founder of modern neurology. However, the painter himself has long been neglected, and even his other paintings on medical subjects are little acknowledged. Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of the European Union, once said that “Nothing is possible without men, but nothing lasts without institutions”. This is also true for academic initiatives. After more than sixty years of a generalized mutual indifference (although with some notable exceptions) between legal academics from The Philippines and Spain, new links were re-established in the early years of the present decade. The reflourishing was the result of the passionate efforts of two remarkable scholars from both countries, namely professor José Manuel Torres Perea, a promising lecturer of Civil Law at the University of Málaga (UMA), Spain, and the renowned and highly praised maestro of several generations of Filipino jurists, professor Ruben Balane. Jean-Paul Sartre is regarded as a leading figure in the 20th-century philosophy due to his great contributions to the theories on existentialism and freedom. One of Sartre’s notable works—“Why Write?” sheds light on his philosophical contemplations on freedom and free will. On Sartre’s upcoming 117 birthday, we make an in-depth analysis into “Why Write?” in an attempt to critically and better learn about Sartre’s Freedom Philosophy. Sartre embraces absolute freedom, a consequence of which, according to Sartre, is full responsibility. However, his notion of freedom is still interspersed with contradictions if we take what he has said about absolute freedom and full responsibility into careful consideration.

Jean-Baptiste Morin, arguably Europe’s most noted astrologer and anti-Copernican, was a key figure in a bitter controversy involving Pierre Gassendi, Ismaël Boulliau, and a dozen other notable savants. News of the dispute captivated Learned Europe for two decades (1630-1650). It was not a backwater affair. After a humiliating quarrel on longitude, Morin expressed his anger by publicly pitting astrology against Copernicanism, by counterpointing the Copernican Question and the Astrology Question in matters of theology and cosmology. His strategy failed. Capitalizing on Morin’s challenge, the New Science not only turned a bitter personal dispute into a fruitful public debate, it firmly established its autonomy and authority. In the end, astrology was not simply marginalized – it did not die from collateral damage – and it did not die a natural death. The death of astrology was by public execution.

The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research (WCFTR), which is housed at the Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison, Wisconsin, and partners the historical society with the University of Wisconsin's Department of Communication Arts, was formed in 1960. It maintains a diverse collection of entertainment media, including collections of papers, audio and/or visual materials, and other creative documents such as scripts and designs. The majority of the WCFTR's collections feature film, radio, and television productions and various photographs and promotional material. The smaller theatre collections include papers related to notable actors and playwrights such as Alfred Lunt, Lynn Fontanne, Moss Hart, Langston Hughes, and George S. Kaufman; lyricists and composers such as Marc Blitzstein and Stephen Sondheim; and designers for film and theatre. This article examines the WCFTR collections of three twentieth-century theatrical designers: Wolfgang Roth, Jean Rosenthal, and Gilbert Hemsley.

In 1522, Marie Quatrelivres, accused of adultery by her husband and found guilty, was condemned to be beaten with sticks on three Fridays and afterwards enclosed in a convent. The court allotted her husband 2 years to decide if he wanted to take her back. If he did not choose to reconcile with her, she was to be enclosed for life and lose all of her property. So wrote eminent jurist Jean Papon (1505–1590) in his collection of notable cases heard before the royal courts of France. Papon described a handful of other sixteenth century adultery cases similarly decided, and then cited a contemporary and fellow eminent jurist, Nicolas Bohier, as having stated that another common punishment for adultery in France was to cut off an adulterous woman's hair, tear her clothes, and parade her in shame throughout the town or city in which she lived.

An experiment investigating the impact of different cocoa densities on leaf macro and micronutrient levels within a coconut ecosystem was conducted at the Coconut Farm of the Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. The study employed a Randomized Block Design (RBD) comprising eight treatments, each replicated three times. Notably, among the various spacing configurations, T1 (3m x 1.2m) exhibited the highest levels of leaf nitrogen (1.86%), phosphorus (0.084%), potassium (1.39%), and boron (91.33 ppm) content. This suggests that under Tamil Nadu conditions, high-density planting in the T1 treatment not only resulted in elevated nutrient levels but also correlated with a notable increase in revenue. These findings underscore the potential benefits of adopting high-density planting practices in cocoa cultivation within coconut ecosystems. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term implications of spacing configurations and nutrient interactions on crop productivity and profitability.

The Postmodern metanarrative abbreviates the relation between entrap the texts that are wreaked by incidents, quotes, allusions, translation and so on. The aim of the study spotlights on the postmodern tendency of metanarrative in Preeti Shenoy’s selected text, A Hundred Little Flames. Preeti Shenoy is a multifarious postmodern writer. The term metanarrative is linked with dialect in the texts. The features of metanarrative are dialect, incident, way of narration and allusion etc. Jean Francois Lyotard is one among notable theorist of metanarrative. The present study has adopted only Lyotard’s metanarrative theory. The methodology of the study splits into three metanarrative concepts – narration towards knowledge, narration towards dialect and narration towards nostalgia. Lyotard proposed these three diverse concepts in his famous book The Postmodern Condition. These metanarrative concepts are adapted to the present study, and the authors have investigated the metanarrative elements in the select text of Shenoy. The results of the study are evaluated with other studies under postmodern metanarrative.

Like international legal scholarship, LJIL is in transition. Our colleagues, Larissa van den Herik and Jean d'Aspremont, who have shaped much of the role and plural identity of the journal over the past decade, in collaboration with our different sections, have passed leadership on to us, the new team of (co-)editors-in-chief. This editorial reflects on the changing role and function of scholarship in international law, a theme important to our predecessors and ourselves. This is to some extent a niche area. It has not received much attention in discourse. With some notable exceptions, legal journals are typically reluctant to address overarching meta-issues of discourse, i.e. issues of production of scholarship, the role of journals vis-à-vis other media, or the broader direction of the development of international legal scholarship. Such issues might be perceived as non-scientific by some. We feel that it is important to include such dimensions, including critical self-reflection on our discipline, in international legal discourse.

Marc-Antoine Jullien is one of the notable figures of the French Revolution of the 18th century, who at the age of 19 became Robespierre's confidant and gained solid experience in political activity. In the autumn of 1798, a new stage in Jullien's career began: returning from Egypt, where he had gone a few months earlier with Bonaparte, Julien joined General Jean-Étienne Championnet, who went to conquer South Italy. Military campaign 1798—1799 ended with the proclamation in January 1799 of the Neapolitan Republic and the establishment of a Provisional Government in it, which included Jullien as General Secretary. The article provides a brief overview of the sources stored in fund 317 of the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History, which refer to the Neapolitan period of Jullien's political activity: from December 1798, when the attack on South Italy began to April 1799, when Jullien was arrested and sent to Milan.

Resumo:

In the history of art, Realism advocates for artists to truly observe life and reproduce classical images in life. As a realistic artist, Millet mainly creates pictures showing what he saw in the countryside. Notable in his painting, he sometimes adds colors differently while painting natural views. This article expresses and confirms the difference between Millet by analyzing and comparing two of his works "Calling the Cows Home" and "Hunting Birds by Torchlight”. The research compares the different structures, light directions, reflection from figures, and interaction with movements of two works. It is argued that Calling the Cows Home is a classical view painting with natural light. Meanwhile, Hunting Birds by Torchlight is work with human-made light and a specific structure to prove Millet's different use of light. His light often conveys temperature and time that is beyond the simplistic understanding of realism. It is also suggested that Millet has developed a kind of dramatic effect while it maintains the feature of natural light.

Eggshells, amounting to a staggering 76.7 million tons annually, are often inadequately disposed of in landfills, leading to significant nutrient loss for both plants and humans, while contributing to environmental pollution and emitting unpleasant odors. In response to these challenges, recent research has been dedicated to repurposing eggshells, exploring their applications in diverse fields such as biochemistry, biomedicine, environmental technology, and agriculture. Recognized as an exceptional source of calcium, eggshells offer notable benefits for calcium-demanding crops, including tomatoes, chilli and cotton. In a comprehensive study conducted, we investigated the application of organic foliar calcium derived from eggshells on tomato plants. The results demonstrated substantial improvements in addressing physiological disorders, promoting overall growth, and enhancing yield, signifies the importance of calcium fertilizer for growing healthy crop. With this background, Multiplex R&D team has made an effort to develop an in-house technology to derive the calcium from waste eggshell. Afterwards, how to scale-up and commercialise it as a sprayable form of Organic calcium fertilizer, PRANAM-CA. Present paper aims to describe the technique to derive calcium from eggshell and its impact on managing the blossom end rot in Tomato cultivation under protected glass-house condition.

RESUMEN: Objetivo. En este trabajo se plantea como objetivo examinar y comparar las diferentes concepciones de responsabilidad y relación con “el Otro” en dos diferentes autores representativos que han tratado de forma notable estos conceptos, profundizando en la subjetividad, libertad y la experiencia del mundo y de la propia existencia. Diseño. Se trata de un Estudio en forma de breve ensayo con un análisis crítico de la temática analizada. Originalidad /valor. Se trata de un análisis comparativo entre dos grandes filósofos enmarcados en la fenomenología de la existencia en aspectos concretos de su pensamiento. Hallazgos. Los dos autores que analizaremos han conocido la fenomenología de Husserl y Heidegger, que fue para ellos un punto de partida con gran influencia en su pensamiento, no obstante, ambos autores tuvieron un posicionamiento y desarrollo propio y en parte divergente entre ellos en gran parte de su pensamiento, llegando a constituirse como auténticas referencias de su tiempo y que actualmente mantienen un gran interés e influencia en la filosofía contemporánea. Analizaré comparativamente dos grandes autores como son, Emmanuel Lévinas y Jean Paul Sartre. Conclusiones. En ellos veremos formas diferentes y hasta cierto punto complementarias de abordar la libertad, responsabilidad y la relación con el otro, en uno de forma más ontológica y en el otro con una visión desde la ética.

El 20 de diciembre de 1735, el señor Jean-Baptiste Vallière llega a ser organista de la iglesia Saint-Trophime de Arles con unos escasos veinte años. Nacido en Aix donde se formó en la escuela de música sacra de la catedral como monaguillo, ese hijo de un secretario de consejero del parlamento de Provenza empieza una carrera de organista en Arles que dura más de medio siglo sin interrupción hasta su muerte en 1790. Mientras tanto, Vallière se corresponde con muchas personas, especialmente con músicos de Aix, de Carpentras, de Nîmes y hasta de París. Recogidas con esmero por su hijo notario después de su muerte, unas cuarenta cartas se conservan hoy en la mediateca de Arles. Ese corpus muy rico nos permite, entre otras cosas, penetrar el medio musical provenzal, entender la lógica de los movimientos de los músicos de iglesia y contemplar las estrategias familiares y profesionales de un organista a la par que ilustra su medio social y su entorno cotidiano en el siglo XVIII.

AbstractSouth Korea is the only nation to become an important donor nation after being a recipient of Official Development Assistance (ODA) for several decades. In 2010, it became a member of the OECD's Development Assistance Committee, and while it has continued to use its experience as a former ODA recipient to inform its distribution practices, it also has evolved its ODA policies in response to changes in international norms and the imperatives associated with being a DAC-member nation. We know that, while policies may change, actual ODA disbursements—which nations are selected as recipients and receive ODA in what amounts—may lag or even remain unchanged. In this paper, we use the case of South Korea to determine how actual ODA disbursements change in response to policy changes. To accomplish this, we use a selection model to conduct a statistical analysis of South Korea's ODA disbursements using dyadic data from 1987 to 2016. Our results indicate that, while there has been continuity in terms of which nations receive South Korean ODA, there were also notable changes in its disbursements. Specifically, the ODA policy changes the South Korean government enacted did result in an altered profile of nations that were targeted by South Korea as ODA recipients.

On June 8, 2018, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) delivered its eagerly anticipated judgment on the appeal of Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo against his conviction by Trial Chamber III in March 2016 for war crimes (murder, rape, and pillage) and crimes against humanity (murder and rape). Bemba's conviction was notable for the variety of “firsts” it gave rise to for the ICC. As a former vice-president of the transitional government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and president of the Mouvement de libération du Congo (MLC), he became the most senior leader to be successfully convicted by the ICC. His conviction was the first in which an individual was found responsible for the commission of crimes pursuant to command responsibility under Article 28 of the Rome Statute. Of particular significance was the fact that this was the first conviction at the ICC for acts of rape and sexual violence committed against women and men. Finally, this was the first case in the history of international criminal law where members of the defense team were arrested, tried, and convicted of crimes against the administration of justice during the course of the trial. The trial judgment was heralded as “a turning point in the ICC's history” following the debacles in the Lubanga, Katanga, Chui, and Kenya cases. However, we now have a new addition to the list of firsts: with the Appeals Chamber's majority judgment (decided 3-2), Bemba becomes the first accused to have his conviction overturned in full.

“Stagger” Lee Shelton (1865-1912) was an African-American carriage driver and sometime-pimp from Missouri. He became immortalized in song as a folklore antihero after murdering a drinking partner following a political argument gone bad in a St Louis saloon on Christmas day, 1895. Sentenced to 25 years in prison, Shelton died in Missouri State Penitentiary after violating his parole with a subsequent conviction for assault and robbery. The song, Stack-a-Lee was first documented in 1897, becoming well known in African American communities along the lower Mississippi River over the following decade as Stagolee, Stagger Lee, Stack OLee and other variants. Two versions were published in the Journal of American Folklore in 1911, with notable recordings entering the charts in the 1920s and beyond. Stagger Lee embodies the archetype of a violent and dangerous antihero as his story is retold, and reimagined or referenced in film, becoming a potent symbol of racial conflict in the United States.In both music and cinematic reincarnations, Stagger Lee seems to have an enduring popularity, partly due to the changing nature of his story, which ensures his tale remains up-to-date (it was most recently adapted to a musical in 2015). This article considers how and why this paean to violence, with its fetishistic vision of extreme masculinity, has become something of a standard in the American folk canon.

In the Rabi season spanning 2021 to 2022, a field trial was carried out on sandy loam soil. at a research station near the Center for Advanced Studies on Climate Change, Dr. RPCAU, Pusa, Bihar (India). Positioned at a latitude of 25°98' N and a longitude of 85°66' E. the experimental plot ascended to an elevation of 52.3 meters above mean sea level. The primary objective was to assess the effects of different irrigation levels and planting dates on the development, yield, and yield characteristics of wheat. The investigation included four irrigation management protocols (irrigation at 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2 IW/CPE) assigned to the main plot, along with four sowing dates (15 Nov, 30 Nov, 15 Dec, and 30 Dec) allocated to the sub plot. This layout was replicated thrice in a split-plot configuration. The results indicated that the maximum values of growth factors (specifically plant height), yield factor (effective tillers/m2), and yield (both grain and straw) were observed when irrigation was administered at 1.2 IW/CPE (I4). This method, statistically comparable to irrigation at 1 IW/CPE (I3), exhibited notable superiority over the other treatments. Conversely, the minimum values of plant height, effective tillers/m2, grain yield, and straw yield were documented under the irrigation regimen of 0.6 IW/CPE (I1).

Bio-stimulants, which are natural substances aiding plant growth and resilience, are comprised of various organic and mineral compounds, serving as eco-friendly tools for sustainable farming. The research study was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Agriculture at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab, during the years 2023-24. The study employed a randomized block design with seven treatments replicated three times. Bio-stimulants were sprayed at 60, 90, 120 and 150 days after planting (DAP) on papaya plants cv. Red Lady to evaluate its effect on various growth, quality and shelf-life parameters. Various growth parameters including plant height, stem girth, canopy spread, petiole length of leaves, as well as floral characteristics such as days taken for flowering, height at initial flowering, number of flowers per node, fruit set percentage and yield-related parameters were evaluated. The study found significant effects of different bio-stimulant applications on papaya growth, flower and fruit production, fruit quality and shelf-life. Treatment T4 (RDF + Diatomaceous earth) showed notable improvements in growth parameters, while treatment T5 (RDF + Panchgavya) resulted in enhanced productivity, fruit quality and shelf-life. Overall, the study suggests that the application of Diatomaceous earth alongside fertilizers promotes vegetative growth, while Panchgavya application enhances flowering, fruiting and quality attributes, offering insights for optimizing papaya cultivation practices for improved yield and quality.

After the Babri mosque in the northern Indian city of Ayodhya was destroyed in 1992 by mobs of ‘volunteers’ mobilised by Hindu nationalist forces, a deed of license between the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board and the Uttar Pradesh state government was signed. Through this license a portion of land in the Gyan Vapi mosque premises in Banaras (Varanasi) was handed over to the state for security purposes. The Gyan Vapi mosque is less than fifty meters from the Kashi Vishvanath temple, a notable Hindu pilgrimage destination. Although at the centre of security issues for centuries, the mosque has been a target of the Hindu nationalist movement that since the 1980s has aimed at the ‘liberation’ of allegedly originally Hindu places of worship. By analysing the evolution of security discourses in local Hindi newspapers and drawing on ethnography of everyday policing at the Kashi Vishvanath-Gyan Vapi compound, this article discusses moral frictions involved in securing a contested place of worship and argues that scopes and objects of securitisation can shift. In the case I discuss, the predominately Hindu police are shown to play an ambiguous role, caught as they are between their duty to secure the disputed mosque and their likely adherence to the increasingly dominant Hindu nationalist discourse. In overcoming these moral frictions, police through their everyday activity contribute to the shift of the object of securitisation from the mosque to the more ‘acceptable’ temple.

Women are not given the due record of credit for most of the work they do in agriculture and allied sector as per the present scenario. But according to global institutional study reports, empowering women in agriculture and providing economic gains to them can lead to a more equitable future for all. A study was conducted to ascertain the extent of empowerment of farm women in Odisha. Three districts of Odisha (Puri, Gajapati and Debagarh) were selected representing the three administrative zones (Northern, Southern and Central zone) with 100 women respondents from each district with a total of 300 sample size. Women empowerment has been assessed through their level of cosmopoliteness, access to information, mobility, media exposure, ownership of resources, access to technology etc. Index values have been calculated for each parameter and the average index has also been calculated. Besides, Mean, standard deviation, correlation and regression method were also applied for generalization of collected data. Results of the study indicated that the overall distribution of the sample regarding cosmopoliteness, mobility and media exposure was within medium to high level. Almost all the members found to have high level of access to information. But unfortunately, the distribution of sample regarding access to technology, ownership, membership and leadership was found at low level. The results also showed that selected socio-economic variables of the respondents had notable association with different parameters of empowerment.

As variability is crucial for crop improvement, it is better to characterise several genotypes that are derived from either seedlings or wild types. This research facilitates the identification of cultivars, genotypes and the elimination of identical plants within populations. The study was conducted in year 2022-23 with thirty-three guava genotypes of Jabalpur district to examine various morphological characteristics such as tree height, trunk girth and canopy diameter, branching attitude, stem colour in young shoots, branching density, mature leaf colour, leaf shape, leaf base shape, leaf tip shape, leaf curvature and leaf twisting. The experimental investigation was carried out at the Fruit Research Station, Imaliya, under the Department of Horticulture at the College of Agriculture, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Genotypes exhibited notable diversity in their morphological traits with respect to height, gith, canopy and several leaf-based characteristics. For the estimation of diversity, the DUS guideline of UPOV was followed. All the genotypes in this study aged between eight to thirteen years. Descriptive statistics showed that, the height of the trees varied between 2.78m (JG-322) and 6.12m (JG-325). The trunk girth ranged between 27.21cm (JG-314) to 87.23cm (JG-319). The canopy in the east-west direction ranged from 4m (JG-325) to 8.34m (JG-322) whereas, in north-south direction varied 3.68m (JG-325) to 8.41m (JG-322). The observed diversity in these traits yielded significant insights that might drive the selection of parental plants for an advanced guava breeding initiative.

The proliferation of hybrid genres is a notable trend in contemporary French literature. Alongside autofiction, new hybrids are emerging in French literature, modelled on a mixture of fiction and factual genre. One of them is exofiction (“ex” + “fiction”), which implies a narrative about fictitious events from the life of a historical character or an attempt to introduce fiction into someone else’s biography. The neologism, belonging to the writer Philippe Vasset, is rapidly entering scholarly and critical discourse, but no systematic attempt to describe the phenomenon has been made. According to Vasset, exofiction can be defined as any narrative that “blends the reality with the phantasms that accompany its representations” (Ph. Vasset); in other words, exofictitious writing practices form the space of “enactivist literature” in the cognitive sense. Exofiction reveals itself in the search for a connection between inner narrator’s experience and the other subject’s experience — including traumatic — through the language. This article attempts to identify the main features of exofiction, according to the enactivist approach in cognitive science and narratology, and to propose an analysis of the genre characteristics of exofiction by the exаmple of the novels by Pascal Quignard, Jean Echenoz and David Foenkinos.
