In combination with sluggish economic development, the financial crisis and the debt crisis that it triggered have contributed to the fact that tax evasion, tax fraud and tax avoidance are recognized as a serious problem. Tax evasion and tax fraud by well-known personalities from politics, sport, the arts and commerce also attract intensive coverage in the media. In the companies sector, internationalization makes it easier for global corporations to shift their profits to low-tax countries and thus to minimize their tax bill. This paper shall discuss also, the measures to combat international tax evasion to be worked out by the OECD and the G20. The fact that multinational corporations are able to reduce their tax burden on profits through tax-saving plans has been known for decades. There are several reasons for the massive increase in this phenomenon in recent years. On the one hand there has been increasing globalisation, on the other corporate structures have also changed massively in recent decades. Tax havens play an important role in this context and there is practically no global player without branches in tax havens

The state's role in building Japan's telecommunications industry is illustrated by the history of the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Company (NTT) in the post–World War II period. Several factors explain the state's success in developing one of the world's most reliable and technologically advanced industries: a strong desire for technological self-sufficiency; a favorable international environment; an ability to legally reverse-engineer foreign products; and the existence of a business sector that was willing and able to invest heavily in the human resources and facilities necessary to become global players. Japan also benefited from a consensus among its state and business elite on how to use NTT for the purpose of national development.

The record of long–term innovation at the American Telegraph and Telephone Company seems to defy conventional economic and social theories of the firm. The following essay, based on extensive research in the AT&T Archives, argues that CEO Theodore Vail made this possible by transforming the Bell System's orientation to innovation, its structure, and its culture. He also gave the System a cadre of leaders who sustained over the long term Vail's strategy of blending adaptive and formative innovations to promote network efficiency.

The literature on multinational corporations argues that a foreign firm can legitimize its activities, improve its reputation in a host country, and reduce the risk of hostile actions by the host government (including expropriation) by approaching and incorporating influential members of the domestic elite in its business. By using the concept of obsolescing political legitimacy, we argue that this legitimating strategy can lead to a loss of reputation and eventual illegitimacy when the host country undergoes significant social and institutional changes. When these changes take place, the domestic society can perceive that the multinational benefited from a previous social and institutional order increasingly considered as illegitimate. Under these circumstances, the new order will question the legitimacy of the multinational's operations, increasing the risk of expropriation. We illustrate our hypothesis with the case of the political strategies of the International Telephone and Telegraph Company (ITT) in Chile in the twentieth century.

Abstract. On 29 October 1923, radio broadcasting or “Rundfunk” was officially opened in the Voxhaus in Berlin and thus the new communication medium was now also available in Germany, but later than in other countries such as the US and the UK. However, first experiments with wireless telephony, which is the technical basis of this medium, were carried out more than ten years earlier (Pungs, 1922; Mathis, 2019; Titze and Mathis, 2020; Mathis and Titze, 2021). One of the pioneers of this technology was the German Egbert von Lepel, who developed in 1907 a new concept of wireless transmitters that was also suitable for use in wireless telephony. The concept later became known as the quenched spark-gap transmitter (“Löschfunkensender”) or ”Singing Spark” transmitter where a specific variant was developed by the Gesellschaft für Drahtlose Telegraphie (GDT: “Wireless Telegraph Society”), System Telefunken. This article discusses the history of this type of transmitter using new historical sources from national and international archives. It turns out that contrary to what is known on this subject from almost all publications on the history of early wireless technology, the German Imperial Patent Office decided in January 1911 that Lepel's patent was granted as the most fundamental for quenched spark-gap transmitters. With the disclosure of this important historical source, the question of the origin of the invention of the quenched spark-gap transmitter must be reassessed.

This article explores the private trade networks of English East India Company merchants on the west coast of India during the first half of the eighteenth century. Existing studies of English private trade in the Indian Ocean have almost exclusively focused on India's eastern seaboard, the Coromandel Coast and the Bay of Bengal regions. This article argues that looking at private trade from the perspective of the western Indian Ocean provides a different picture of this important branch of European trade. It uses EIC records and merchants' private papers to argue against recent metropolitan-centred approaches to English private trade, instead emphasising the importance of more localised political and economic contexts, within the Indian Ocean world, for shaping the conduct and success of this commerce.

The purpose of the research. The article examines the history of the trade expansion of German capital in East Asia, and, in particular, in Korea in the late XIX - early XX centuries on the example of the activities of one of the largest European trading houses «Eduard Meyer & Co». Conclusions. Until the middle of the XIX century, the German bourgeoisie wasn’t able to actively participate in colonial and semi-colonial trade expansion in non-European countries, it has begun only with the development of capitalism in the country. The liberal bourgeoisie of the German Empire sought to open non-European markets and conduct business in the spirit of free trade and competition. This process is clearly visible on the example of the activities of the largest German trading company in East Asia called «Eduard Meyer &Co». Its trade expansion in Korea began in the 1880s, when P.G. von Möllendorf held influential posts in Korean government. The company has received numerous commercial projects from the Korean government, such as the supply of equipment for a new Korean coin, the sale of weapons, the construction of telegraph lines and the maritime transportation. After the resignation of P.G. von Möllendorff, «the Eduard Meyer & Co.» had to join the struggle for concessions and economically profitable projects along with other foreign companies in Korea, and this struggle did not always end in success. In difficult conditions of the company «Eduard Meyer & Co» managed to adapt its own trading model to the Korean realities, which has worked successfully for several decades.

Abstract International alliances (or strategic alliances) are combinations of global agreements between linear shipping companies. These agreements were signed in the mid-1990-es, and they include ocean carriers operating the main global routes. Alliances became a crucial phenomenon in shipping in the last few decades. In the past, the cooperation of linear shipping companies stipulated the coordination of prices and volumes. In the last two decades, global alliances of competing companies appear that distribute vessels to increase their operational efficiency and expand service areas. The character of these alliances changed over this period as described in this article. Besides, the authors formulated hypotheses that justify the key determinants impacting the success and efficiency of shipping company alliances. They also provide the results of reliability studies for the data impacting alliance efficiencies, such as the cross-company coordination, organizational training, alliance costs, its duration, and company size.

AbstractThe purpose of this journal is to provide the knowledge and analysis of whether the Indonesian seafarer migrant worker placement company (Dahlian Ocean Fishing Co. Ltd.) for the Long Xing 629 ship can be held civilly responsible and be asked for compensation to fulfill the rights of the families of victims of Indonesian migrant workers for failing to prevent modern slavery practices on the ship. This research is a socio-legal research that examines the gap between objects of legal science originating from various legal norms contained in legislation as well as conventions and legal norms accepted by the international community as a legal material, with objects of social science in the form of legal problems that exist in society that are guided by legal norms as the main problem. Dahlian Ocean Fishing Co. Ltd. as a Chinese company under the auspices of the United Nations which recognizes business principles and human rights as a soft law recommended by the state to every limited liability company has made a seafarer agreement with the Indonesian seafarer migrant workers on the basis that there will be no arbitrariness and this is written clear in the rights and obligations of the agreement. This is also based on the International Convention which stated that migrant workers are not allowed to be enslaved, however, there has been a violation of the seafarer agreement and indications of modern slavery on the crewship. Due to regulatory gaps and the existing situation, seeing that slavery violations occur outside the jurisdiction of the state, making human rights law enforcement and victims' compensation procession very difficult. Therefore, the Indonesian government has not been able to ask for civil liability to Dahlian Ocean Fishing Co. Ltd. for the death of immigrant workers on the Long Xing 629.Keywords: Law and Human Rights; Modern Slavery; Civil Liability; Long Xing 629; Dahlian Ocean Fishing Co. AbstrakTujuan penulisan dalam jurnal ini adalah memberikan pengetahuan dan analisa apakah perusahaan penempatan (Dahlian Ocean Fishing Co. Ltd.) pekerja migran laut untuk Kapal Long Xing 629 dapat bertanggungjawab secara perdata dan dimintakan kompensasi ganti rugi untuk memenuhi hak-hak keluarga korban pekerja migran Indonesia karena gagal melakukan pencegahan praktik perbudakan modern (modern slavery) pada kapal tersebut. Kata Kunci: Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia; Modern Slavery; Pertanggungjawaban Perdata; Long Xing 629; Dahlian Ocean Fishing Co.

This paper examines the effect of CSR perceptions on online recruitment practices and outcomes in the Vietnamese food and beverage sector. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seventeen participants, including CEOs, HR (human resource) staff and store managers. The results show that CSR perception varies and is exemplified through employee-related activities, ethical products, environment, philanthropy, and international standards. The study is novel in establishing that, despite high unemployment in developing economies, CSR communication in online recruitment sites impacts job applicants’ choice of company. While the strategic potency of CSR has been established, this study brings to light its critical significance for human resources processes, particularly online recruitment, in an emerging economy context. The study has considerable implications for practitioners and researchers, suggesting the necessity to strategically manage the interface between CSR and online recruitment.

This article concerns the case of Humane Society International v Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha Ltd, in which the Humane Society, a non-governmental organisation, attempted to sue a Japanese company conducting whaling in the Southern Ocean in an area claimed as an exclusive economic zone by Australia. The Humane Society failed to convince the Federal Court to allow it to serve proceedings on the Japanese company outside Australia, after the judge agreed with the arguments provided by the Australian Attorney-General. These submissions included the possibility of an embarrassing international incident that could arise if a Japanese company were to be served with proceedings enforcing a law that Japan considers to be inconsistent with the freedom of navigation on the high seas. Underpinning the whole case was the issue of sovereignty over Antarctica, which Australia and other countries have disputed for many decades. The author evaluates Australia’s claim to an exclusive economic zone around its Antarctic territorial claim, and its use of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 to declare a whale sanctuary in that part of the world. The author suggests that it might be possible for the Australian courts to read the whale sanctuary legislation in line with international law, potentially relying on the New Zealand Sellers case, to exclude overseas companies from the effects of the legislation. However, the author concludes it would not be desirable for the Australian Government to rely on such a possibility to avoid potential international repercussions from its domestic legislation.

The event of a disastrous oil spill from British Petroleum's offshore drilling installation on the 20th of April 2010 was caused by a leaking underwater pipeline, which polluted the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Subsequently, there was the Carbon Emission Case in the Netherlands, which required Shell to reduce their carbon emissions by 45% by 2030 from the carbon emissions generated in 2019. Both events were deeply concerning and directly effected the citizens of the respective countries. In the first case, the spill of approximately 5,000 barrels or 210,000 gallons (795,000 liters) of crude oil spread extensively due to ocean currents where the contaminated area ended up covering 9,933 square kilometers of ocean (77 x 129km). This oil spill, which was a result of British Petroleum's negligence, lead to legal action taken against the company for violations of international environmental laws, due to environmental pollution. In the second case, Shell, was deemed to have contributed significantly to climate change in the Netherlands. The company was responsible for twice the amount of greenhouse gas emissions than the Netherlands. The research method employed in this journal uses a normative juridical research approach, focusing on legal norms within the decisions for Case MDL No. 2179 and the Verdict issued by the Haugue District Court. In this journal, the author concludes that both British Petroleum and Shell have been proven to commit unlawful acts against the international environment laws through environmental pollution.

The 2008 financial crisis had a tremendous impact on the Greek economy and society. Since 2010, widespread popular mobilizations have emerged against the austerity measures that were part of the bail-out package proposed to the Greek governments by the Troika of creditors (EU-ECB-IMF). Yet the institutional trade unions have failed to impede the reduction of wage earners’ income, which, by 2013, had dropped by 50% compared to 2008 levels. These unions have also been largely unable to confirm their leading role in mobilizing the working population. This article examines the reasons for the failure of the institutional trade unions to adequately address the austerity challenge. We consider that the explanation of their shortcomings lies in the generic challenges and problems contemporary trade unions are facing, as documented in the relevant international literature, as well as the specific particularities and traits of the Greek socio-political context. We also investigate the alternatives proposed by militant, grassroots labour organizations, such as neighbourhood-based workers’ clubs, industry sector or company-based unions populated by precarious workers, and occupied, self-managed companies. After identifying the strong points of the latter’s contributions, as well as the problems and challenges they are facing, we conclude that a diversified and innovative approach is required on the part of the labour movement in order to simultaneously address and exploit all sources of workers’ power. The article concludes that a process of strategic rapprochement between mainstream and radical unions in Greece is necessary.

The international shipping transportation has an important position in the field of economical development in each nation. It has been presented by increasing the number of ships with sufficiency of sizes and kinds. This development always associates with the environmental pollution. The main reason for this that International Maritime Organization required all ships conform to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL 73/78) and that they want their ships operate in the international routes. Especially, MARPOL 73/78, Annex VI—Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships, gradually impacts the limited value of low-sulfur-content fuel oil on ships no more than 0.50% m/m (mass by mass) from 1 January 2020, against the limit of 1.00% in effect up until 31 December 2014. Following the actual conditions, a lot of countries in the world have given the solutions in response to these above regulations. In Vietnam, VINIC shipping transportation company also has the solution in changing-over procedures from heavy fuel oil into light heavy fuel oil with low-sulfur content for bulk carriers. Based on the development of science and technology nowadays, especially machine learning method, the author has designed prediction model of low-sulfur-content fuel oil consumption by applying artificial neural networks model. The object of this study is a bulk carrier of VINIC shipping transportation company in Vietnam with ship name M/V NORD VENUS 80,000 DWT. The mass of low-sulfur-content fuel oil consumption has been recorded and compared with the results collected in this research when ship sailed on emission control areas. The simulation results of prediction model have been represented on artificial neural networks tool of MATLAB program. The advantage of this model will be represented through comparing with traditional statistical regression methods. The artificial neural networks prediction model of low-sulfur-content fuel oil consumption is more reliable than other traditional methods. The traditional statistical regression methods have been supported in this case by Minitab software. The superior model will save the low-sulfur-content fuel oil on bulk carriers and reduce the sea environmental pollution. This article will be an initial basis for applying the different types of ships when sailing on emission control areas in the future.

To nineteenth and early twentieth-century scholarship, the early modern expansion of powers like Spain, Portugal, England and Holland, was a necessary preliminary step towards Europe's ultimate domination of the Asian and African continents. Moreover, the relative ease with which colonial powers manhandled regions like North Africa and the Indo-Pak subcontinent suggested that their early modern ‘pioneering’ counterparts must have shared similar experiences. While some historians highlighted superior business concepts (joint-stock companies, profit-sharing) or superior shipbuilding and navigation techniques as the means with which trading powers like the Estado da India and the English East India Company penetrated and overwhelmed Indian Ocean commerce, other scholars boiled it down to the European affinity for using ‘men-of-war, gun, and shot’. The critical underlying assumption of any of these teleological explanations s i that ‘encountered’ cultures were unable to adequately respond to European technology, of course hinting at some deeper and more profound deficiency. In recent years, the world community has largely formed the foundations of the ideology of world development for the coming decades, which are expressed in the paradigm of sustainable development through the introduction of ESG principles into the activities of the most companies in various sectors of the national economics. The interpretation and use of these principles in the activities of the most conservative industry of the Russian Federation, to which, according to most scientists, construction belongs, are not fully regulated, which makes it difficult to fully apply them and indicates the need to transform the operational activities primarily of development companies. The article analyzes the publications of independent research agencies that regularly analyze Russian companies for compliance with international standards of sustainable enterprise development, as well as directly development companies in Russia that are actively applying ESG principles in their operational activities at the moment. At the same time, special attention was paid to the problems of applying the sustainable development strategy in practice and ways to solve these problems. Moreover, the recently come into force standard of "green" construction for the evaluation of residential buildings GOST R 70346-2022 "Green Standards" was reviewed, as well as the current and proposed potential transformation processes of a development company at hierarchical levels, according to the ESG 2.0 strategy. The transformation processes of a development company proposed in the article on hierarchical levels are aimed at introducing the concept of ESG principles at each stage of the development project life cycle. That will provide a synergetic effect by defining new development priorities, economic, technological and cognitive sovereignty of development in the Russian Federation, as well as regulatory control over compliance with these principles not only during the construction of a building, but also at the stage of its operation.

White Ocean Strategy (WOS) has a positive impact on the company. However, many companies have not implemented this strategy. There is a research gap between customer value and customer engagement (CE). This research explains that customer value is an antecedent of CE. However, some studies discuss that customer value is a consequence of CE. This study aims to explain the relationship of WOS, customer value, and CE. This research is quantitative explanatory research and used accidental sampling to obtain the samples. The survey was conducted online with Google Forms distributed on social media and obtained 220 respondents who are users of the Surabaya bus services. The hypotheses were tested using the SEM-PLS. Seven hypotheses were accepted, while other two were rejected. It was found that WOS increases CE, customer green value, functional value, and emotional value. Nevertheless, it does not significantly affect customer social value. The customers’ green, functional, and emotional values impact CE, while social customer values do not affect CE. The contribution of this study is to clarify the research gap of the relationship between customer value and CE. This study supports previous research that discusses customer value as an antecedent variable for CE.

Abstract Liner shipping is the most efficient mode of transport for goods. International liner shipping is a sophisticated network of regularly scheduled services that transports goods from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world at low cost and with greater energy efficiency than any other form of international transportation. Liner shipping connects countries, markets, businesses and people, allowing them to buy and sell goods on a scale not previously possible. Today, the liner shipping industry transports goods representing approximately one-third of the total value of global trade. Ocean shipping contributes significantly to international stability and security. Considering the large and constant struggle in the market in terms of competitive pricing of products, a very important and indispensable role represents the container transport with a clear task to define the final price of the product. This paper analyzes the costs of container transport flow between Far East and Serbia, using different liner shipping services, observing the six world’s largest container operators (Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Company, CMA CGM, Evergreen Line, China Ocean Shipping Company and Hapag-Lloyd) and inland (truck-rail-river) transport corridors. These corridors include distance between selected Mediterranean ports (Koper, Rijeka, Bar, Thessaloniki, Constanta) and Serbia. As a result, in this paper is considered a mathematical model that provides a comparative analysis of transportation costs on the different routes. It is observed already existing transport routes and it is also given hypothetical review to the development of new transport routes. The main goal of this research is to provide an optimal route with lowest transportation cost during container transport. Selection of the best route in the intermodal network is a very difficult and complex task. The costs in all modes of transport and the quality of their services are not constant parameters and changes depending on a number of conditions and characteristics. The analysis of this model within combined maritime and land-based networks would prove helpful for the study of logistics chains, the hinterland-foreland continuum, intermodal transport systems, and market competitiveness.

This article examines diverse practices in the establishment of marriage partnerships in eighteenth-century Sri Lanka,1 parts of which were controlled by the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Family law was an area in which the attempt to transform local practices was conspicuously present, but not fully achieved. Lawful marriage was linked to conversion to Dutch Protestantism and to inheritance of property. In the authoritative space of the provincial board that heard the matrimonial disputes examined in this article, the Company did not proactively attempt to reform family life, an area where it could not easily dictate terms. It made a significant dent as the requirement for marriage registration was recognised by natives. But the limited reach of the introduced law is evident in the Company’s reluctant recognition that its two-step process of reading the banns and subsequent marriage ceremony created confusion and that locals still followed customary practices for forging unions. The VOC faced a normative order in the villages that was characterised by ritual underpinnings. Such local features went unrecognised in official law rules, but their perseverance is testimony to the pluralities in practice in an early colonial encounter in the Indian Ocean world.

The overland communications between Asia and Europe were of crucial importance to the economic and military survival of the East India companies. This applies equally to the English, French and Dutch East India companies - and even to the Portuguese empire. At some of the most crucial moments of its history, the very survival of the Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC) depended on the thin thread connecting it overland to Europe. One of these crises occurred in the mid-seventeenth century when during the first Anglo-Dutch war, English fleets challenged Dutch naval supremacy in the Indian Ocean. Reflecting on the defeat of the British fleets and the near eradication of the English East India Company or EIC's naval presence there in 1654, the Dutch director of Surat commented: ‘We would never have gained such an easy victory if the English had reacted more promptly or had we not received warnings so promptly [tijdig].’ Similarly, the catastrophic defeat suffered at a later date by the French admiral De la Haye is normally attributed to De la Haye's hesitations. Yet is is doubtful whether the VOC would have been able ot assemble a fleet quickly enough to destroy De la Haye's fleet had the VOC not received messages overland.

Abstract The power of the Al Bu Sa'id Sultans of Oman was widely known as based on delicate balances of forces (and ethnic-social groups), deeply different among them. In fact, the elements that composed the nineteenth century Omani leadership were, and had always been, generally 'divided' amongst three different ethnic groups: the Baluch, the Asian merchant communities and the African regional leaders (Mwiny Mkuu). Within this framework, the role played by European Powers, particularly by the Treaties signed between the Sultans of Oman and the East India Company for abolishing slavery, and by the arms trade was crucial for the development of the Gulf and the Western Indian Ocean international networks They highly contributed to the gradual 'shifting' of the Omanis from the slave trade to clove and spice cultivation – the major economic source of Zanzibar Island – along the coastal area of Sub-Saharan East Africa. The role played by the Omani Sultans – the myth – within the western traditional historiography, which often described them as firmly controlling both the Arabian and African littorals and the major trading ports of the Western Indian Ocean during the nineteenth century, will be reexamined in this paper, taking into account recent research studies and international debates in the topic. The new hypothesis consists of a different perception of the concepts of power and control (political and territorial) of the Western Indian Ocean littorals by the most famous of the Sultans of Oman during the nineteenth century: Saiyid Sa'id bin Sultan Al Bu Sa'id.

ABSTRACT This study aims to find out how the financial health condition of health service sub-industry companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. To predict the financial health of these companies, an analysis of the Altman model, Fulmer model, Grover model, Springate model, Taffler model, and Zmijewski model will be used. The research conducted is a type of exploratory descriptive research. For sampling, non-probability purposive sampling method was used and 8 companies were sampled from 9 population companies. The results of the research show that the use of different models can produce different results. However, if the company is generally in a very healthy financial condition, then all models will produce the same analysis results, namely the company is in a healthy financial condition. Likewise, if the company's financial condition is not healthy for several years in a row, then the results of the analysis using the majority of models will show the same result, namely an unhealthy financial condition. There are 4 sample companies whose financial conditions are healthy for all years studied using analysis of all models, namely PT Mitra Keluarga Karyasehat Tbk. (MIKA), PT Prodia Widyahusada Tbk. (PRDA), PT Royal Prima Tbk. (PRIM), and PT Siloam International Hospital Tbk. (SILO). The results of this study also show that in general the financial condition of the health service sub-industry companies was healthier during the Covid-19 pandemic compared to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic, except for PT Sejahteraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk. (SRAJ) which experienced a decline.

Fatigue is a leading factor in the design of ships and particularly of high-speed vessels, where designers focus their efforts on how to define optimized structural solutions, which often imply higher design stress levels and higher flexibility. Fatigue problems may arise as a consequence of ship response to environmental loads and, locally, to the vibrations induced by the propulsion systems. The paper aims at supplying some information about the experience matured in this field by a big European shipbuilding company, also pointing out the differences between steel structures and aluminum alloy structures. The precautions in design, production, and through-life maintenance needed to prevent fatigue cracks arising after a short service period are also taken into consideration, showing that fatigue problems can be limited, if not avoided, only if every party involved is fully aware of its role and of the possible troubles induced by any deviation from the correct way to act.

Transport is an integral part of any company. Nowadays, there is a great emphasis on the use of environmentally friendly modes of transport. In addition to being one of the environmentally friendly modes of transport, rail transport can carry large quantities of various goods over long distances. In order for rail transport in Slovakia to be able to compete with other modes of transport, it is important that Industry 4.0 elements are applied in the technological processes at railway stations. The aim of this article is to draw attention to the impact of the introduction of Industry 4.0 elements into the transport process in rail transport. The premise of the research task is based on the experience with the introduction of intelligent sensors in rail transport in some European Union countries. On the basis of the analysis of the use of information and communication technologies in railway transport, the article carries out a technological evaluation of the design of the wagon control unit in the transport process with regard to the speed of processing a shipment in a border-crossing station.

Integrated Command, Control, Communication and Information (C3I) Systems have developed a language of their own, drawing heavily on acronyms and information technology terminology, resulting in the impression being given to the uninitiated that either a black art is being practised or at least there is a mystique unknown in other complex systems. No master plan or model exists for C3I systems, and their very existence is predicated primarily on the need to fulfil two basic requirements. First, they exist where there is a need at the highest level of management of an international or national authority, or of a large company, or of a large organization, to exercise real-time optimum use of the total and diverse resources available to the corporate body in pursuit of its mission, charter or commercial goal. Secondly, at the lowest level, C3I systems exist to help an individual, or a machine, or a sensor, to perform a given task or rôle more effectively. The integration of emergency services and the operation of large modern transportation systems are among the civilian systems that stand to gain most from the use of integrated C3I systems.

Between expenditure data and financial reports have not been connected in one system, which causes it to be unable to generate reports automatically. This makes the company work less effectively and efficiently, which results in the slow preparation of reports. For this reason, an information system is designed and built to manage web-based financial reports to make it easier to present reports more efficiently—design and Build of Financial Information System PT. Total Ocean Crossing begins with collecting data, and then from that data, functional and non-functional analysis can be carried out. After that, do the design, prepare black box testing test scenarios, determine the schedule of activities, implement the system, and finally do system testing—financial Information System PT. The purpose of this study is to explore how to effectively prevent risks in the Marine Silk Road. This paper establishes a hierarchical theoretical framework by using the interpretive structural modeling (ISM) and explores an application system for intelligent prevention. The fuzzy set theory is also used to screen out the unnecessary attributes, and a decision-making and trial evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) is proposed to manage the complex interrelationships among the aspects and attributes. Finally, we suggest an applicable risk-prevention system for the Marine Silk Road. Our results: (1) the solution to international political and trade risks is the most critical for the risk prevention; (2) the solution to marine meteorological risks relies mainly on the improvement of ocean information sharing mechanism driven by big data which needs international cooperation in terms of information and technology; (3) the solution to marine energy and environmental risks also requires active international cooperation; (4) the application system should be built based on three levels, including the international level, the government level, and the company level. This theoretical hierarchical framework aims to guide the countries alongside the road to effectively prevent the risks on the Marine Silk Road, promote the sustainable development of the Marine Silk Road, and develop the transnational economies and cultures.

The establishment of a Dutch trading factory at Kayalpatnam in 1645 initiated half a century of Luso-Dutch rivalry for the control of the Madurai coast (modern Tamilnad) until its ‘final solution’ in the 1690s. The stakes were high and involved both material and non-material considerations. Contemporary Dutch sources estimated the capital value of the local chank or conch shell and pearl fishery at 350,000 and 5 to 6 million guilders, respectively. Almost half of the circa 500 vessels involved in the pearl fisheries of 1668 and 1669 came from the seven major ports (yelu ur) of the socalled Fishery Coast (Costa de Pescaria). Control over southeast India littoral, moreover, meant mastery of the strategic Palk Straits and the Indo-Ceylon trade in areca, textiles, salt, grains, ray skins, chaya or dye roots, lime, and the like. Dutch projections of potential revenues derived from this source in the 1670s ranged from 1.28 to 1.65 million guilders per year. Apart from the intra-Asiatic or country trade, exports from the Madurai coast became increasingly important in the long-distance trade with Europe in the wake of the ‘calicoe craze’. Between 1680-81 and 1734-35, the total invoice and sales value of Dutch textile exports from Madurai destined for patria amounted to 8.85 and 15.31 million guilders, respectively. The annual invoice and sales value of Company textile exports from southeast India littoral to the Dutch Republic peaked in the first decade of the eighteenth century at an average of 282,824 and 644,541 guilders, respectively. In 1704-05, the invoice and sales value of Dutch textile exports from Madurai to Europe alone amounted to no less than 659,215 and 1,362,050 guilders, respectively.

Finally, they need to create the content strategy applicable to promotion and marketing innovatively in the music business. Case overview/synopsis This study analyzes how a Jakarta-based independent music company, Sun Eater Records, changed its strategy in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The adverse effect of the pandemic on this company included a massive drop in sales of products and revenues from tours, festivals and outdoor music performances. Music industry stakeholders were confused and frustrated because of the restriction and the implementation of the social distancing policy, as most of their business models depended on live music showcases and selling records. The protagonist of this study, Kukuh Rizal Arfianto, is the director and co-founder of Sun Eater Records. Kukuh’s experience during the pandemic is used to capture the dilemma faced by the music industry players in Indonesia. This agile businessman transformed this music company by embracing digitalization. Inspired by the business models of Disney and 88 Rising (Music Management), Sun Eater Records developed various derivatives digital products. The company did not only sell music through digital content, it also developed several complementary products with music as their main theme. These innovative creations include mini-documentary, virtual concerts, compilation albums serial, digital comics, and Covid-19 Campaigns. Naara-Aaba is an indigenous wine innovated by a woman who could predict a beautiful end to her vision of brewing wine from the sacred but exotic fruit kiwi. The brand was launched in 2017 at Hong village of Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh by Tage Rita Takhe; an engineer turned entrepreneur through her venture M/s Lambu Subu Food & Beverages. The brand was named after her late father-in-law lovingly known as ‘Naara’ and ‘Aaba’ meaning father. The motto of the company is to fight a social problem that wreaks havoc across the region, namely the suicides of thousands of farmers who cannot pay back their debt due to drought, poor harvest, and sometimes exacerbated by climate. Rita started her winery facing these hurdles and a field abundant in kiwi fruits. Despite facing many challenges such as lack of efficient production infrastructure, market connectivity, and minimum support from the government machinery, she has created a niche market in the wine industry. This case aims to establish the applicability of the Blue Ocean strategy by applying the tools to create an uncontested market space for Naara-Aaba, the first organic kiwi wine from the north-eastern states of India and second in the world after New Zealand. Research question: How to apply Blue Ocean strategy for the brand Naara-Aaba so that the competition becomes irrelevant? Theory: Blue Ocean theory Type of the case: Applied problem solving Basis of the case: Phenomenon-creating uncontested space in the market Protagonist: Present Findings: The findings revealed that implementing a Blue Ocean strategy will open up new uncontested market spaces for the brand to grow profitably. This case study shows how to apply Blue Ocean strategy for a wine brand. Discussion: Blue Ocean strategy advocates that by eliminating unnecessary attributes, reducing all features that pushes up the cost, raising utility, and creating higher value, a brand can redefine its market where competition is non-existent.

Those rules must be included into ship’s Planned Maintenance System, another requirement of the ISM Code. Maintenance periods in rules are based on several factors, while the Company experience in the operation and maintenance of the ship and its machinery and equipment is emphasized and analyzed in this paper. Analysis of records from different Computerized Planned Maintenance Systems obtained from several companies show that each company implemented their experience in the system. At the same time, the results show that very few modification of machinery maintenance intervals have been made with the proactive approach based on acquired experience and new knowledge.

COVID-19 pandemic has brought difficult situations for the global economy and their economic activities. However, passenger traffic is one of the activities that has felt the impact of the pandemic the most. The movement of passengers was reduced to a minimum, and some forms of traffic were completely suspended. One such example is railway transport in the Republic of Croatia, whose activity was completely stopped in April 2020, which also affected the business of the company Croatian Railway Passenger Transport Ltd. In this paper, the authors will analyse the impact of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on the mobility of passengers in national and international railway passanger transport of the Republic of Croatia.

Despite the extensiveness and abundance of empirical research in the existing literature, there is no clear view or position with respect to the role of innovation in exporting, especially regarding the heterogeneous impacts of different types of innovations (product, process, organizational and marketing innovations) on exporting. The objective of this article is the empirical verification of innovation as the cause of export propensity in firms from the South Caucasian countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia). The empirical investigation is based on the data collected by the Enterprise Survey (World Bank Microdata), conducted among companies located in the Southern Caucasus. Seven hundred and seventy-six firms were selected through an appropriate procedure, including 279 from Armenia, 236 from Azerbaijan, and 261 from Georgia. Logit regression models were applied to determine the chances of exporting, depending on the type of innovations implemented by each company. The results of binomial logistic regression analysis demonstrate that product innovations play an important role in explaining SMEs’ export propensity in the South Caucasian countries. Moreover, the likelihood of export is seen to be positively related to the share of foreign capital in company structure. The general level of economy innovativeness in the Caucasus is low, but the share of foreign ownership in companies under consideration was relatively high, so the foreign investors probably played a key role in the innovations implemented by local ventures. It is most likely due to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia going through an early stage in economic transition, in which soft innovations (organizational and marketing innovations) lag behind hard innovations. There is an evident lack of empirical studies of the role of innovation in the development of export in emerging countries, including the South Caucasian countries, and it still remains largely underexplored; therefore, the novelty of this research lies in the exploration of the Caucasian countries as emerging markets.

In the modern world, energy is the basis of the development of basic industries, which determines the progress of public production. The growing need to use electricity poses problems in finding sources of its generation. The main problem of choosing sources of electricity production is the impact of energy on the environment. Many countries focus their energy development strategy on renewable energy sources (RES) (solar, wind, bio and others). However, due to their specificity, renewable energy sources cannot ensure the production of the required amount of electricity. The key problem of renewable energy sources is to ensure an uninterrupted supply of energy to end users. In the work, a comparative analysis of the state of the structure of energy resources and their availability in the southern region of Ukraine was carried out. The problem of ensuring energy and environmental security of the Odesa region in conditions of a shortage of traditional energy resources is considered. The current state and prospects of the use of renewable energy sources are considered. Using the method of expert evaluations to justify the choice of the type of acceptable energy source and increase the relative energy security of individual territories, the use of nuclear energy is substantiated. The prospects of placing new power units with the AP1000 reactor unit developed by the Westinghouse Electric Company on the territory of the former construction site of the Odesa Nuclear Thermal Power Plant (Teplodar) were considered. The technical characteristics of the AP 1000 project are given. The obtained results can be the basis of objective assessments regarding the prospects of using nuclear energy to increase the energy security of the Odesa region. The relevance of the work is determined by the importance of international cooperation in atomic energy, which is a strategically significant, innovation-intensive branch of the modern world economy in the conditions of development of the Odesa region.

Sea Pilotage in Croatia is regulated by the Croatian Maritime Code and the Ordinance on Sea pilotage. The Croatian Maritime Code contains general provisions on pilotage and defines non-compulsory pilotage, while the Ordinance on Sea pilotage determines what should be considered compulsory pilotage but also comprises provisions on pilotage company, pilots and Pilotage Exemption Certificate. Both of these legislations have been amended lately in order to align policies among themselves and with international and/or EU requirements. This paper gives an overview of contemporary legal framework of maritime pilotage in Croatia with a special reference to 2021 Amendments to the Ordinance. By using descriptive, comparative and compiling research method, the author analyzes the most important changes introduced by these amendments with the purpose to establish the level of alignment of relevant regulations as well as to assess if current provisions represent appropriate legal solutions of this important maritime institute.

Abstract Background: With new standard-of-care and novel treatment options available in MM, outcomes have improved; however, patients (pts) eventually become refractory to multiple drug classes (Gandhi et al. Leukemia. 2019;33:2266). Melphalan flufenamide (melflufen) is a first-in-class peptide-drug conjugate (PDC) that targets aminopeptidases and thereby rapidly releases alkylating agents inside tumor cells. In the United States, melflufen + dex received accelerated approval in RRMM based on results from the phase 2 HORIZON study (Richardson et al. J Clin Oncol. 2021;39:757). In the phase 3, randomized, OCEAN study (NCT03151811), melflufen + dex significantly reduced the risk of disease progression vs pom + dex (progression-free survival [PFS]: hazard ratio [HR], 0.79 [95% CI, 0.64-0.98; P=0.031]) in RRMM (Oncopeptides. Press release. July 8, 2021). This subgroup analysis of OCEAN investigates the impact of prior treatments on efficacy outcomes. Methods: Eligible pts received 2-4 prior lines of therapy (LoT) including lenalidomide (len) and a proteasome inhibitor (PI) and were refractory to len (within 18 mo of randomization) and to their last LoT. Stratified by age, number of prior LoTs, and International Staging System score, pts were randomized 1:1 to 28-d cycles of melflufen 40 mg intravenously on d1 or pom 4 mg orally (PO) daily on d1 to d21. All pts received dex 40 mg (20 mg for pts ≥75 y) PO on d1, 8, 15, and 22. Pts received therapy until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. The primary endpoint was PFS, assessed by an Independent Review Committee per International Myeloma Working Group Uniform Response Criteria. Key secondary endpoints included overall response rate (ORR), overall survival (OS), and safety. Subgroup analyses by prior therapy received were prespecified prior to the start of the study. Results: At data cutoff (Feb 3, 2021), 495 pts were randomized to receive melflufen (n=246) or pom (n=249). Among these, 125 pts (51%) and 120 pts (48%) had a prior stem cell transplant (SCT), 43 pts (17%) and 43 pts (17%) were on len for <6 mo, 56 pts (23%) and 65 pts (26%) were on len for 6-11 mo, 76 pts (31%) and 70 pts (28%) were on len for 12-23 mo, 71 pts (29%) and 71 pts (29%) were on len for ≥24 mo, 213 pts (87%) and 217 pts (87%) were refractory to len in the last LoT, 78 pts (32%) and 75 pts (30%) were refractory to an alkylator, 48 pts (20%) and 39 pts (16%) were refractory to an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody (mAb), 162 pts (66%) and 163 pts (66%) were double refractory (refractory to ≥1 PI and ≥1 immunomodulatory agent), and 39 pts (16%) and 30 pts (12%) were triple-class-refractory (refractory to ≥PI, ≥1 immunomodulatory agent, and ≥1 anti-CD38 mAb), respectively. PFS and OS by prior therapy received are shown in the Figure. Significant PFS benefit with melflufen (vs pom) was observed in pts without a prior SCT (HR, 0.59 [95% CI, 0.44-0.79]; P<0.001), pts on len for ≥24 mo (HR, 0.57 [95% CI, 0.38-0.86]; P=0.007), pts refractory to len in last LoT (HR, 0.73 [95% CI, 0.58-0.91]; P=0.006), pts not refractory to an alkylator (HR, 0.71 [95% CI, 0.55-0.91]; P=0.008), and pts not refractory to an anti-CD38 mAb (HR, 0.72 [95% CI, 0.57-0.91]; P=0.006). Overall, the OS was 19.7 mo (95% CI, 15.4-26.0) in the melflufen group and 25.0 mo (95% CI, 18.2-32.0) in the pom group. Pts who received a prior SCT in the pom group (30.9 mo [95% CI, 20.9-36.4]) had a notably higher OS compared with the melflufen group (16.7 mo [95% CI, 14.8-not evaluable]; HR, 1.61 [95% CI, 1.09-2.40]; P=0.018), particularly in those receiving high-dose melphalan, and are being further investigated. In the melflufen vs pom arm, ORR was 42.1% vs 27.1% (P=0.013) in pts without a prior SCT, 23.2% vs 26.7% (P=0.531) in pts with a prior SCT, 35.7% vs 29.2% (P=0.449) in pts on len for 6-11 mo, 40.8% vs 25.4% (P=0.051) in pts on len for ≥24 mo, 33.8% vs 25.3% (P=0.055) in pts refractory to len in the last LoT, 36.3% vs 26.4% (P=0.049) in pts not refractory to an alkylator, 32.8% vs 26.2% (P=0.142) in pts not refractory to an anti-CD38 mAb, and 30.2% vs 28.8% (P=0.781) in pts with double refractory disease, respectively. Conclusion: In OCEAN, melflufen + dex showed superior PFS, but not OS, compared with pom + dex. PFS benefit with melflufen was consistent across clinically relevant subgroups, primarily in pts without a prior SCT, with ongoing analyses aimed at determining factors driving this benefit. The article considers the activities of Ivan Kraft, the governor of Yakutsk Oblast, on the incorporation of North-East Siberia into the single economic, administrative and sociocultural space of the Russian Empire. The aim of the study is to analyze Kraft's contribution to the construction and arrangement of the Amur-Yakutsk Highway at the beginning of the 20th century. To reach this aim, the authors broadly use archival sources that have not been previously published and introduced into academic discourse. The topic has theoretical and applied relevance. It has not been sufficiently studied in the historiography of North-East Siberia and is the subject of scholarly and political discussions. The key method in the study is an interdisciplinary approach to the research problem, which is at the intersection of history and economics. The authors used content analysis for a quantitative and qualitative study of these sources based on the principle of historicism and consistency. The authors determined that, in connection with the design of the Amur Railway, the Amur-Yakutsk Highway received the status of a strategic infrastructure object in the macroregion. The authors note that Kraft was the initiator of the construction of the route from Yakutsk to the Amur. The governor conducted a number of scientific and engineering surveys of the most convenient route and made applications for financing the construction of the highway. Kraft made a strategic decision to attract private companies with large capital for the construction. The Upper Amur Gold Mining Company and the Heirs of A. I. Gromova company helped build highway sections with a total length of more than 500 km, equip stations, establish telegraph communications, and construct river crossings. At the beginning of the 20th century, in the framework of modernization measures, Kraft considered Yakutsk Oblast as a mining region. This became the basis for raising the question of Yakutia's access to the Trans-Siberian Railway. The close cooperation of the government, in the person of Kraft, with large enterprises of the region was the basis for the project of constructing a railway line to Yakutsk. In conclusion, the authors note that the processes of incorporation of the Asian borderlands of Russia into the economic, administrative and sociocultural space of the state that Governor of Yakutsk Oblast Ivan Kraft began at the beginning of the 20th century were reflected in the modern policy of the Russian Federation. The Amur-Yakutsk Mainline was put into operation in 2015. At present, the problem of building a bridge across the Lena in the Yakutsk area is still relevant. In 2019, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed orders to begin the construction of the bridge. This will create an international transit corridor between Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Risk if not well managed could lead to collapse for most organizations especially those whose core business deals with day-to-day handling of risk. Risk management should, therefore, be at the core of an organization’s operations by integrating risk management practices into processes, systems, and culture of the entire organization. This involves identifying and analyzing risks, developing, and implementing risk handling techniques and monitoring the progress of these to avoid andor reduce the impact of risk on the financial performance of the company. Furthermore, insurance company under concern should follow current international leading practice by adopting Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) which incorporates other insurance risk quantification models. This will ensure that the companies remain afloat during such times of strict regulatory regimes such as solvency 11 and Basel.
