The ecology of contemporary journalism is experiencing a power shift from traditional media such as newspapers and TV news to social media. This shift is bringing a crisis of professional journalism in the traditional media and the emergence of public journalism based on social media. The Institute of Optimism for Professional Journalism in the Social Media Era (hereafter "lOPS") is a new institutional building for a professional broadcasting organization. The aim of the thesis is to find a new spatial medium to reformulate the function of professional journalism through a systematic friction with public journalism in the process of news production. The thesis deals with the imminent deterioration of the broadcasting station through two phased strategies. First, the thesis studies the trajectory of the relationship between the sphere of professional journalism and the sphere of the public in the broadcasting building. Based on this research, the new type of relationship envisaged by the project is formulated. Second, the thesis addresses systematic friction between professional journalism and public journalism through the architectural interfaces in a tectonic manner. Subsequently, the synthesis between the logic of the new relationship and the logic of transparency derived from the interfaces is utilized as the foundation for the construction of an institutional building generating optimal alternative journalism.

The 2016 U.S. presidential campaign was rife with scandal, the greatest of which the Department of Justice exposed in detail in a 2018 indictment that charged a shadowy Russian organization known as the Internet Research Agency (IRA) with organizing thousands of fictitious individuals and organizations across virtually every social media platform to manipulate the beliefs of real American voters. The goal of this manipulation was to elect then-candidate Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States. This thesis performs a deep dive analysis into the IRA's influence campaign on one social media platform: Twitter, and identifies worrying trends in account creation, tweet volume, and tweet content that indicate growing investment into IRA operations. This marked expansion of Twitter activity likely signals growing Kremlin enthusiasm behind social media propaganda and confidence in its ability to affect the beliefs of American citizens. This data analysis and a full review of the public and private policy landscapes before and after the reveal of IRA operations aims to inform the next round of proposed election security legislation following the 2020 U.S elections. I conclude by calling upon the upcoming 117th Congress to take immediate action and fulfill its duty to protect the integrity of U.S. democratic institutions in light of Russia's past attempted interference and chilling reports that the Kremlin has learned from its past mistakes and continues to refine the art of laundering fabricated narratives to undermine democracies around the world.

The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of the South of Minas Gerais, Inconfidentes campus (IFSULDEMINAS – campus Inconfidentes) is one of the institutions that composed since 2008 the Federal Network of Education. The Inconfidentes campus is the result of a series of transformations in the field of professional education, having started its activities in 1918 as Patronato Agrícola Visconde de Mauá, since then has developed professional technical training. The present research aims to understand the origin and evolution of the campus Inconfidentes (education institution), as a way of knowing the steps undertaken until the constitution as a campus of the Federal Institute, from there to identify how the training of students in secondary education integrated. This research sought to delineate its evolutionary process until 2016, based on documents referring to its origin and institutional evolution, such as decrees, laws, educational guidelines for professional education, theoretical reference on professional education in Brazil, especially on secondary education integrated, Seeking the current debate for the Federal Institutes. We also used as source for this research data obtained through research data obtained through quantitative and qualitative research carried out with teachers, administrative technicians and students through questionnaires in order to know the reality of the debates about training and perspectives for the high school professional education level. The results showed that vocational training at the Inconfidentes campus is still very much linked to a utilitarian perspective and too far away from what is recommended for integrated secondary education. In the general context, it can be observed that the education offered by the Inconfidentes campus is still linked to training for the labor market and that the search for secondary education integrated is not necessarily due to professionalization.
El Instituto Federal de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología del Sur de Minas Gerais, el campus Inconfidentes es una de las instituciones que integraba a partir del año 2008 la Red Federal de Educación. El campus Inconfidentes es el resultado de una serie de transformaciones en el campo de la educación profesional. Habiendo iniciado sus actividades en 1918 como Patronato Agrícola Visconde de Mauá, que desde entonces desarrolla la formación técnica profesional. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo comprender el origen y la evolución del campus Inconfidentes como una manera de conocer los caminos recorridos hasta la constitución como campus del Instituto Federal y a partir de allí identificar la formación de los estudiantes de la Enseñanza Media Integrada. Esta investigación buscó delinear su proceso evolutivo hasta el año 2016, con base en los documentos relacionados con su origen y desenvolvimiento institucional, como los decretos, las leyes, las directrices educacionales para la educación profesional, aliadas a este marco teórico sobre la formación profesional en Brasil, especialmente sobre la Enseñanza Media Integrada, buscando la actualidad en los debates para los Institutos Federales. También se utilizaron como fuente para esta investigación los datos obtenidos mediante la pesquisa cuantitativa y cualitativa llevada a cabo con los docentes, personal técnico administrativo y estudiantes a través de cuestionarios en vista de la posibilidad de conocer la realidad de las discusiones sobre la formación y las perspectivas de la formación profesional de nivel medio. Los resultados mostraron que la formación profesional en el campus Inconfidentes está todavía muy ligada a una perspectiva utilitaria y lejos de que aboga por una formación integrada de nivel medio. En el contexto general, es evidente que la educación ofrecida por el campus todavía está vinculada a la formación para el mercado laboral y que la búsqueda por la enseñanza media integrada no es necesariamente debido a la profesionalización.
O Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Sul de Minas Gerais, campus Inconfidentes é uma das instituições que compuseram a partir de 2008 a Rede Federal de Educação. O campus Inconfidentes é resultado de uma série de transformações no campo da educação profissional. Tendo iniciado suas atividades em 1918 como Patronato Agrícola Visconde de Mauá, desenvolve desde então formação técnica profissional. A presente pesquisa objetiva compreender a origem e evolução do campus Inconfidentes, como forma de se conhecer os caminhos percorridos até a constituição como campus de Instituto Federal, para a partir disso identificar como ocorre a formação dos estudantes no Ensino Médio Integrado. Esta investigação procurou delinear seu processo evolutivo até 2016, baseando-se em documentos referentes a sua origem e evolução institucional, como decretos, leis, diretrizes educacionais para educação profissional, referencial teórico sobre educação profissional no Brasil, especialmente sobre Ensino Médio Integrado, buscando a atualidade do debate para os Institutos Federais. Foram utilizados também como fonte para esta pesquisa dados obtidos por meio de pesquisa quantitativa e qualitativa realizada com docentes, técnicos administrativos e discentes por meio de questionários tendo em vista a possibilidade de se conhecer a realidade dos debates sobre formação e perspectivas para a educação profissional de nível médio. Os resultados mostraram que a formação profissional no campus Inconfidentes ainda está muito atrelada a uma perspectiva utilitarista e muito distante do que se preconiza para uma formação integrada de nível médio. No contexto geral, percebe-se que a educação ofertada pelo campus ainda está atrelada a uma formação para o mercado de trabalho e que a busca pelo ensino médio integrado não é necessariamente por causa da profissionalização.

This thesis investigates the debate in the Swedish parliament (Riksdag) and the depiction of the newspapers at the time of the imposition of the Swedish state institute of racial biology in 1921. The thesis also aims to investigate what arguments were used for and against the institute and if the depictions of the newspapers were any different depending of their political standpoints. The investigation is based on material from three national newspapers, a government bill, and the protocol from the debates in the riksdag. The theoretical approach is based on phenomenology and the approach of history of mentalities, in order to see the 1920’s norms and attitudes in the right way. The conclusion of the thesis is that the debate was almost non-existent, both in the newspaper and in the political space. The main argument for an institute was the protection of the Swedish race, whereof the main argument against a state institute were financial and the approach that the institute could be integrated with an already existing department of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. The newspapers were quite silent about all this as well and only published the decisions from the riksdag. However, one of them also published an exchange of opinions between Herman Lundborg and C G Santesson, whose debate comprised arguments of the organisation of the institute. The norms and attitudes were found to be more about science and slightly about nationalism, whereas what we nowadays call racism seemed to not be included at all.

Es imposible dejar de mencionar el estado que presenta el medioambiente, a pesar de que Las Ventanas fue declarada Zona Saturada de contaminación el año 1993 y se han implementado una serie de planes de descontaminación, hoy en día se puede percibir la degradación de sus mares, aguas, suelos y aire, que han afectado directamente las actividades productivas de la zona y a la salud de los habitantes. El medio ambiente se está deteriorando y sus habitantes sienten incertidumbre sobre el futuro en la comuna. El proyecto de título que se presenta a continuación busca desarrollar una propuesta arquitectónica que dé respuesta a las problemáticas identificadas de la localidad de Las Ventanas producidas por la presencia del polígono industrial, considerando como eje principal de acción la comunidad, la inclusión de ésta en el proyecto y la negociación entre las partes involucradas (autoridades, industrias y habitantes) como vía de solución del conflicto medioambiental.

The aim of this study is to explore the Study in Sweden Facebook page, particularly about the use of nation branding identity and its representation on the social media channel during the period for application promotion for Swedish higher education institutions for Autumn semester 2018. Facebook page has been used as a centre for international marketing activities. With the purpose of promoting brand identity and the brand products, Facebook page has a significance as an online brand platform. Despite the importance of nation branding on online channel, few studies focusing on online channels for nation branding were conducted. Study in Sweden. The Study in Sweden Facebook page is used to promote Swedish higher education and Sweden, which also aims to imprint a positive image of Swedish education and Sweden as a country. Applying nation branding theoretical approach with qualitative content analysis, how nation branding identity is represented on the Study in Sweden Facebook page was investigated. In accordance with cultural approaches to nation branding, nation branding identity was labelled as binders of the imagined community further values of the nation. The study brought a focus on the relations between national identity and Swedishness concerning the core values of the nation. Facebook was investigated as communicator of the nation branding for representing the core values of Sweden.

Tesis para optar al grado de Magíster en Lingüística mención Lengua Española
La influencia de las ideologías lingüísticas está presente en un amplio rango de campos sociales que involucran aspectos del lenguaje, y las políticas lingüísticas y educativas no están exentas de ellas. Este estudio busca indagar en las ideologías lingüísticas subyacentes en los últimos miembros del proceso educativo, es decir los profesores y los estudiantes. Se centra específicamente en dos lenguas: por un lado en la lengua indígena mapuche y por otro lado en el inglés. El presente estudio de caso que busca responder a la interrogante de qué ideologías lingüísticas y representaciones sociales poseen profesores y estudiantes en torno a la enseñanza del inglés y al mapudungun en el Instituto Nacional en Santiago de Chile. Se entrevistaron 9 alumnos de primero medio y 3 de segundo medio y se realizaron reuniones y grupos de. Los estudiantes rondan entre los 15 y 16 años de edad. Además se entrevistó al educador tradicional del establecimiento. Los resultados permitieron mostrar que gran parte de las ideologías lingüísticas y representaciones sociales en torno a la enseñanza del inglés y del mapudungun que se desprenden de las autoridades se replican en los estudiantes y educadores. Y éstas son fundamentales a la hora de entender las relaciones que se producen entre ambas lenguas y las decisiones detrás de las políticas lingüísticas en Chile.

A febre tifóide é doença infecciosa de distribuição mundial e, estando estreitamente relacionada com baixos níveis sócio-econômicos, ocorre com maior freqüência nos países em desenvolvimento. Neste trabalho é apresentada a experiência do Instituto Evandro Chagas (IEe) com essa doença desde 1987 até 2004, período no qual se construiu uma casuística de 443 casos, todos diagnosticados por meio do isolamento da Salmonella Typhi no sangue e/ou nas fezes, sendo alguns deles complementados com a reação soro lógica de Widal. Os casos foram procedentes de Belém e do interior do Estado, ora encaminhados ao IEC pelas respectivas unidades do Sistema Único de Saúde para esclarecimento diagnóstico de síndrome febril, a maioria de curso prolongado, aqui designados como "demanda espontânea", ora detectados por ocasião da investigação de surtos ocorridos em localidades do interior. Discutiram-se aspectos relacionados à apresentação clínica, com ênfase às manifestações atípicas; à distribuição por gênero e faixa etária; à sazonalidade; e à distribuição por área de procedência, identificando-se os municípios de maior prevalência, e a distribuição por bairros, em relação aos casos procedentes de Belém. Foram discutidos, também, aspectos relacionados ao diagnóstico laboratorial com ênfase à aplicação dos métodos de cultivo (coprocultura e hemocultura) comparando o rendimento delas em relação ao tempo de doença e a relação dessas provas com a reação de Widal, comparando o valor desta como método auxiliar ou complementar no diagnóstico da doença. As análises estatísticas foram realizadas por meio do programa Bio Estat versão 3.0, aplicando-se o teste do qui-quadrado e teste "G" e a significância estatística foi aceita ao nível de 95%. Os resultados nos permitiram tirar as seguintes conclusões: 1) em situações de normalidade epidemiológica a febre tifóide acomete mais a faixa etária do adulto jovem, enquanto que, nas situações epidêmicas, a faixa etária mais atingida é a infantil; 2) existem homogeneidade entre as amostras provenientes dos casos de surtos e da demanda espontânea quanto à distribuição dos gêneros, sendo que o masculino está mais exposta à febre tifóide; 3) no interior do Estado a doença se mostrou mais freqüente nas regiões onde se concentra maior número de populações ribeirinhas e, em relação à capital, ela mostra a maior prevalência no bairro do Jurunas; 4) a enfermidade tem um perfil sazonal, que mostra a maior ocorrência na segunda metade do ano, favorecida provavelmente por fatores geo-climáticos e culturais; 5) a febre tifóide constitui sério problema de saúde pública no Estado do Pará, confirmando sua estreita relação com os elevados níveis de pobreza; 6) a fórmula leucocitária revelou padrão normal ou leucocitose em maior percentual em relação à leucopenia; 7) na abordagem laboratorial não se deve prescindir dos ensaios que visam ao isolamento em detrimento do teste sorológico, e a coprocultura e a hemocultura devem ser solicitadas em todos os casos sem se levar em conta o tempo de evolução do quadro clínico; 8) em nossa região, nas áreas onde não há disponibilidade das provas de cultivo a reação de Widal pode ser uma alternativa de valor diagnóstico; 9) é enfermidade de curso clínico prolongado e com manifestações clínicas atípicas (pneumonias e hepatite colestática) cujos sinais/sintomas, quando presentes, devem suscitar a suspeita por parte do investigador; 10) nas regiões de elevada endemicidade, a febre tifóide pode causar um impacto negativo na economia tanto pelos custos gerados com exames laboratoriais, tratamento, hospitalizações e eventuais intervenções cirúrgicas, como por afastar o trabalhador do seu posto de trabalho por um período de tempo prolongado.
Typhoid fever is an infection disease of world occurrence, but as it is strictly related with low socioeconomic levels it occurs most frequently in developing countries. In this work we present the experience of Instituto Evandro Chagas (IEC) with that disease since 1987 up to 2004, period in which a number of 443 cases was accumulated, all diagnosed by Salmonella Typhi’s isolation from blood or feces, being some of them complemented with Widal serologic reaction. The case were proceeding from Belém and the municipal districts of Pará state conduced to IEC by the respective Units from Health System for etiologic diagnosis of fever syndrome, most of them of persistent course, here designated as “spontaneous” demand, at that time detected during outbreak investigations occurred in the municipal districts. We discussed aspects related to the clinical presentation, with emphasis to the atypical manifestations, the distribution according to sex and age group, the seasoning, the distribution by origin area, identifying the municipal districts of larger prevalence, and the distribution by districts, in relation to the cases coming from Belém. We also discussed aspects related to the laboratorial diagnosis emphasizing the application of the cultivation methods (coproculture and hemoculture) comparing their performance concerning the time of disease and the relationship of those tests with Widal reaction, by measuring the value of these as auxiliary or complementary method in the diagnosis of the disease. Clinical, epidemiological and laboratorial analyses were made, using Bio Estat version 3.0 program by applying qui-square and G test and the statistic significance was accepted at 95% level. The results allowed us to have the following conclusions: 1) in situations of epidemic normality the typhoid fever affects more the young adult group, while, in the epidemic situations, the affected age group is the infantile; 2) there is homogeneity among the samples from cases of outbreaks and the spontaneous demand according to the gender distribution, but males are more exposed to typhoid fever; 3) in municipal districts of the State the disease was shown to be more frequent in the areas where it concentrates larger number of populations who live near rivers and, in relation to the capital, it showed larger prevalence in jurunas district; 4) the illness has a seasonal profile, which shows the largest occurrence in the second half of the year, probably favored by geo-climatic and cultural factors; 5) the typhoid fever constitutes serious problem of public health en the State do Pará, confirming its narrow relationship with the high poverty levels; 6) the leukocytic formula revealed normal pattern or leucocytosis compared to leucopenia; 7) in the laboratorial approach it should not dispense the assays that seek to the isolation in detriment of the serological test, and the coproculture and the hemoculture should be requested in all the cases without considering the time of evolution of the clinical situation; 8) in our area, where there is not availability of cultivation tests, Widal reaction can be an alternative of value diagnosis; 9) it is illness of persistent clinical course and with atypical clinical manifestations (pneumonias and cholestatic hepatitis) whose sings/symptoms, when presented, should raise the suspicion by the investigator; 10) in the areas high endemicity, the typhoid fever can cause a negative impact in the economy not only for the costs generated with laboratorial exams, treatment, hospitalizations and eventual surgical interventions, but also because it can let the worker to be away from work for a prolonged period of time.

Purpose/Aim: The purpose of this paper is to describe how a number of strategically selected employees at the Swedish Institute, with the purpose to promote Sweden in the world, look at the challenges facing Sweden concerning nation branding in the new era of cooperation within the European Union. I examine how these people look upon the work of public diplomacy and nation branding in order to actively participate and influence the EU's common communications platform.

Material/Method: The method used in this thesis is qualitative interviews. The reason why I chose this method is because I consider it to be the most appropriate in order to collect information about how these selected employees at the Swedish institute regard the challenges that lay ahead in terms of nation branding within the European Union.

Main results: On the basis of the results I have gained by dint of the analysis, it can be concluded that it is of utmost importance to take the societal changes, which are a result both of the worldwide globalization and the EU cooperation, into consideration when designing a future communication strategy for the Swedish Institute. The nation-state continues to play an important role in Sweden, but its importance is declining as the EU cooperation is progressing. The citizens’ identity plays a crucial role in designing a nation’s communications strategy, and from the analysis I conclude that we move not from a Swedish to a European identity, but towards a pluralistic union where multiple identities meet under one umbrella; the EU.

Ante esta situación, el presente trabajo de investigación tiene por objetivo analizar cómo se está aplicando el marketing digital utilizado en las plataformas digitales del Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) como elemento clave en la relación que tiene con los millennials. Partiendo la hipótesis del supuesto que si el INE hiciera un uso correcto y bien implementado del marketing digital en sus plataformas se tendría un mayor acercamiento con ésta generación, puesto que es el sector poblacional que hace más uso de Internet. En el caso de esta investigación que busca examinar cada plataforma digital utilizada por el INE, se trabajará con una metodología cuantitativa, pues se hablará de aspectos meramente observables y medibles.

En el Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal se realizó un estudio descriptivo, observacional y prospectivo con el total de gestantes de bajo riesgo obstétrico a quienes se les realizo estudio mediante flujometría Doppler de las arterias uterinas, umbilical y cerebral media entre las 11 - 42 semanas, con control prenatal y parto en el Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal entre el 1º de enero y el 31 de diciembre del 2007 con el objetivo de elaborar las curvas de los valores correspondientes al Índice de Resistencia y al Índice de Pulsatilidad de las arterias umbilical y cerebral media y el Índice de Resistencia promedio de las arterias uterinas. Un total de 1746 gestantes cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. El estudio mediante flujometría Doppler se realizó entre las 11 y 41 semanas de gestación. No hubo gestantes con 42 semanas. Las curvas de los Índices de Resistencia y Pulsatilidad de la arteria cerebral media mostraron aumento inicial hasta la semana de gestación 30 y disminuyeron posteriormente; mientras que estos mismos índices para la arteria umbilical disminuyen en relación inversa con la edad gestacional, al igual que el promedio del Índice de Resistencia de las arterias uterinas. Se concluyó que los valores de referencia actualizados del Índice de Resistencia y Pulsatilidad permiten optimizar la capacidad diagnóstica de la evaluación Doppler de las arterias uterinas, umbilical y cerebral media fetales contribuyendo a mejorar la vigilancia del embarazo normal y complicado.

Syftet: Syftet med denna uppsats var att se hur Nordiska Afrikainstitutet använder sig av sociala medier och hur de tillämpar den information som organisationen kommunicerat via de sociala medierna. Teoretisk ram: Uppsatsen utgår ifrån teorier som ger överblick i hur traditionella och moderna kommunikationsredskap fungerar. Därutöver har ett analytiskt instrument använts som kartlägger kommunikationsprocesser i organisationer samt hur dessa tar tillvara på ny kunskap. Den teoretiska referensram består av följande teorier: Media Richness modellen samt de två artiklarna On using organizational knowledge capabilities to assist organizational learning samt Virtual worlds as platforms for communities of pratices från antologin Knowledge management and organizational learning. Metod: Uppsatsen bygger på en kvalitativ metod. Det empiriska materialet har samlats in genom respondentintervjuer, dessa bestod av telefonintervjuer samt epostkorrespondens. För att urskilja respondenterna har ett snöbollsurval använts. Intervjuerna har därefter analyserats utifrån den teoretiska referensramen. Resultat: Resultatet av undersökningen visar att både traditionella och sociala medier används vid institutet där de traditionella medierna anses trovärdiga men inte alltid flexibla. De sociala medier som används är Facebook, Twitter och institutets egna forum kallat NAI-forum. Undersökningen visar att de sociala medierna är en användbar kanal för nå ut till flertalet användare på ett informellt sätt. Tendenser visar att sociala medier underlättat kommunikationen för institutet då de lättare kan nå en större målgrupp och föra en dialog med dessa. Det framkom också att institutet diskuterar och kommenterar förfrågningar som görs via de sociala medierna och tar tillvara på den information som förvärvas genom de sociala medierna. Undersökningen visade också att det finns en stor potential med att använda sociala medier och respondenterna tror att inom en snar framtid kommer de också att spela en allt viktigare roll i NAI:s kommunikationsarbete.
Aim: The main aim of this thesis was to explore which communication tools the Nordic Africa Institute utilizes. We also looked into how the institution maintains the information created through the new communication channels. Theories: The essay is based on theories that provide an overview of how traditional and modern communication tools work. We also used an analytical tool to map/analyze communication processes in organizations. Theoretic framework was based on the The Media Richness model and the two articles On using organizational knowledge capabilities to assist organizational learning and Virtual worlds as platforms for communities of practices from the anthology Knowledge management and organizational learning. Method: The essay is based on qualitative methods. The empirical data was gathered through informant interviews. We gathered data by telephone interviews and e-mail. To identify the respondents a snowball sampling technique was used. Main results: The result of the study shows that both traditional and social media are used within the institution, whereas the traditional media are considered reliable but not always flexible. The social media channels the institute uses are Facebook, Twitter and their own forum called, Nordic Africa Institute forum. The general attitude among our respondents shows that social media is a useful channel for reaching out to the majority of users in an informal way. The answer of our respondents also showed a general trend that social media has also eased communication for the institute where they now can more easily reach users and have a dialogue with them. It also emerged that the NAI discusses and comments on inquiries made through the social media and they utilize the information that is acquired. The institute has a policy in place for the acquisition of information gathered through social media. Our study shows that the respondents believe that there is a great potential in using social media. They also envisage that social media in the near future will play an even more important role in how they work in the communication department at the Nordic Africa Institute.

Denna studie kommer att behandla ämnet om mediastrategier inom svensk HIV/AIDS-forskning. Under hela 1980-talet kom HIVAIDS att spela en betydande roll i samhället, framförallt inom den växande mediasvären. Uppmärksamheten runt en sjukdom var av ett slag som inte tidigare upplevts framförallt för läkarna som behandlade de sjuka i den omfattning de hade möjlighet. Min ambition under detta arbete är att undersöka hur forskarna idag arbetar mot media för att undvika problem med att misstolkas. Hur medveten är arbetet, finns det en tydlig strategi för att undvika en situation som den på 1980-talet då det förekom stor förvirring runt sjukdomen. Undersökningen har baserats på pressmeddelanden från Karolinska institutet vars innehåll fått svara för hur forskarnas strategi utformats. En viktig komponent för analysen har varit att se hur medicinens inre normer påverkat deras sätt och omfattning i vilket de agerat. Genom analysen har det framkommit att forskarnas relation till media idag är mycket professionell och genomtänkt. Det som kan begrundas är att de givetvis alltid kan förbättra sina metoder för interaktion med media. Faran som finns är deras självuppfattning vilket kommer att styra deras framtida ambitioner gällande sitt informationsarbete.

Abstract : This essay, which is subject to the Postgraduation in Education Program from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), had the objective to understand the conception of curricular integration that founds the formation proposal of the secondary school integrated with the professional courses of Agropecuária (agronomy and husbandry) at the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia Catarinense (IFC). The study pondered about the current problematic concerning the association between secondary school and professional education with emphasis on the curricular integration of the pedagogic projects of the Agropecuária courses in the integrated form issue. Methodologically, the research was developed from a theoretical approach which founded the main concepts/principles regarding to the problematic and the investigated object, besides an empirical study involving the institution and a group of its workers. Aiming to identify the curricular integration conception present in the IFC's integrated secondary school project, a set of interviews were made, questionnaires was applied, and also official documents were analysed, including the secondary school and professional education curricular guidelines besides some elements from the pedagogic projects of the referred course in different campi. The work was structured in the following way: an introductory text, the motivations for the choosing of the theme, the objectives, the methodology and a brief explanation about the IFC, particularly, its involvement with the integrated secondary school project. In the text titled Ensino Médio Integrado: concepção, constituição política e diretrizes (Integrated Secondary School: conception, political constitution and guidelines) we tried to understand the conception and principles which found it, and the historical tension between the secondary school and professional education over formative projects and by its guidelines. In this aspect, it was revealed that the integrated secondary school project is the result of the confrontation in relation to the tradition of a historically built fragmentary professional education. In other text, it was possible to identify the discourses which orient that curricular policy since its concepts till its organization in structural terms. It can be observed that the official discourses that found the project are, mostly, derived from distinct theoretical basis, including both critical and conservative perspectives. Furthermore, it was possible to understand the different ways knowledge is treated in the curricular ambit, from its choose to its organization. Finally, in the empirical text, which introduces and argues the conception of curricular integration in the IFC's integrated secondary school, the elements which express the way the professionals perceive the course can be identified. The main research results are: I) the argument over the association between professional education and secondary school, referent to the curricular integration, reveals the challenge to overcome the duality which historically has been setting boundaries among courses/modalities; II) although the officials guidelines point to a integration conception, there is a long path until its materialization; III) the IFC's Agropecuária integrated secondary school proposal is theoreticaly and methodologicaly maturing; IV) Despite the limitations, a significant number of pedagogic integrative actions are developed; V) The continued formation is indicated by the professionals involved in the course as a fundamental strategy to its strengthening and legitimation. Yet, the work is bounded by its methodical and theoretical limits and its results are valid in this ambit.

O objeto de estudo deste trabalho é investigar como a função socioambiental da propriedade urbana foi incorporada no atual Plano Diretor de Desenvolvimento Urbano (PDDU) de Salvador, para a defesa do Meio Ambiente urbano. Com a pesquisa, foi realizado um breve levantamento histórico sobre a propriedade enquanto direito absoluto no Brasil e sobre a mudança de paradigma em relação a este quando o Estado passou a incorporar o exercício do Direito de propriedade ao cumprimento da sua função socioambiental, além de analisarmos como isto está previsto no atual PDDU da cidade de Salvador. Para avaliar a incorporação do instituto da função socioambiental da propriedade urbana, adotamos como estudo de caso o projeto “Via expressa Linha Viva”, com 17,7 km de extensão e previsão de ocupar diretamente uma área de 4 milhões de m2, afetando diretamente áreas de proteção de recursos naturais, de proteção cultural e paisagística, além de promover a remoção de milhares de famílias que ocupam áreas consolidadas há mais de 30 anos, como o Bairro de Saramandaia. A metodologia adotada para desenvolvimento da pesquisa consistiu em uma pesquisa bibliográfica, legislativa e documental, tendo como foco principal a Constituição Federal de 1988, o Estatuto das Cidades, o atual PDDU de Salvador, o Estudo de Impacto Ambiental do Projeto “Via Expressa Linha Viva” e a opinião da sociedade civil.
El trabajo de este objeto de estudio es investigar cómo el papel social y ambiental de la propiedad urbana se incorporó en el actual Plan Director de Desarrollo Urbano (PDDU) de Salvador, para la defensa del medio ambiente urbano. Con la investigación se llevó a cabo un estudio histórico breve en la propiedad como un derecho absoluto en Brasil y en el cambio de paradigma en relación con esto cuando el Estado comenzó a incorporar el ejercicio del derecho de propiedad para cumplir con su función social y ambiental, y cómo se espera que esta la corriente PDDU la ciudad de Salvador. Para evaluar la incorporación del instituto de la función social y ambiental de la propiedad urbana, adoptado como un estudio de caso del proyecto "Autopista Hot Line" con 17,7km de largo y previsión de ocupar directamente una superficie de 4 millones de m2, lo que afecta directamente a las zonas protección de la protección natural, cultural y paisajístico, y promover la eliminación de miles de familias que ocupan áreas consolidadas de más de 30 años como el distrito Saramandaia. La metodología para el desarrollo de la investigación consistió en una investigación bibliográfica, legislativo y documental se centra principalmente en la Constitución Federal de 1988, el Estatuto de las ciudades, la corriente PDDU Salvador, el Estudio de Impacto Ambiental de la autopista proyecto de la Línea y en Vivo opinión de la sociedad civil.

Scholarly communication has changed with the growth in technology, particularly the internet and the social web. The changes include a broader definition of the scholarly communication format, and the role of social media in the research process, amongst others. This study sought to record the body of work that PLAAS had produced over a 20-year period (1995 to 2015) and to measure its visibility and impact through bibliometrics and altmetrics. It was the first time that such a study had been done. The Web of Science Citation Index and Scopus are two commercial databases that have recently been joined by Google Scholar, the first open database of scholarly items with citation counts based on the entire contents of the World Wide Web. Scopus and Google Scholar were used in this study. Methods used in the study included the compilation of a full bibliographic record of the outputs during that period. Citation analysis and publication counts were conducted, per author, within Scopus and Google Scholar. Altmetric analysis was achieved with the Altmetric Explorer database, and by studying three PLAAS grey literature outputs in more depth for altmetric indicators. The last method used was a small survey based on an online multiple-choice questionnaire of researchers at PLAAS to investigate their attitudes to a selection of the social media platforms commonly used by scholars. The full list of outputs, once compiled, showed a composition of 54% grey literature published by PLAAS and 46% journal articles and monographs. The results showed that bibliometrics, as a purely quantitative indicator, can be useful in measuring the impact of a body of work on the scholarly domain and in this study indicated high publication and citation rates. The authors of the highest number of PLAAS outputs and with the highest citation counts and h-indices, were found to be the same throughout the study. These authors are closely associated with the Institute and have contributed to the good academic reputation of its research. The study was inconclusive with regard to the impact on social media platforms as none of the grey literature from PLAAS had a unique identifier which made it difficult to track; in addition, the use of social media by the Institute and its researchers was intermittent and uneven in covering all the PLAAS-published outputs that were produced. Key recommendations for PLAAS to improve the visibility and impact of their outputs in scholarly and social contexts were to use unique identifiers, to track their social media activity and to keep author profiles up to date. Further use and application of the research design in other research units and departments at UWC will generate results that are useful to research management at UWC.

The Confucius Institute has recently become more prevalent in political discussions and news headlines. Questions regarding its operations, influence from the Chinese government, and programing are common topics in news reports about the institution. The rise of China in the global economy has caused demand for language and culture education and the Confucius Institute has attempted to fill this demand. The purpose of this nonexperimental quantitative study was to investigate the perceptions of K-12 school and higher education employees that work closely with a Confucius Institute program in the state of Tennessee by exploring issues that have been presented in current research and reports, and to identify alignment and misalignment of these perceptions between higher education and K-12 settings in Tennessee. The study surveyed 42 higher education personnel and 58 K-12 personnel from Tennessee educational institutions that work with Confucius Institute programing. The survey consisted of 18 items that centered around 10 research questions. Quantitative data for six of the research questions were analyzed using a one sample t-test. A 5 point Likert-type scale was used to measure responses with a 3 point neutrality rating. Two research questions data were analyzed utilizing an independent samples t-test and two research questions were ranking questions that were coded in a point system to understand current perceptions. The results indicated that personnel interacting with Confucius Institute programing in the state of Tennessee generally found it to be positive regarding adhering to academic freedom principles, local control principles, media perception, and meeting the needs of the local institution or school. Higher education personnel listed political environment, alignment with institutional or school needs, educational benefit to students, and national media coverage as challenges facing the Confucius Institute. K-12 participants listed Chinese teacher turnover, Chinese teacher training, and alignment with institutional or school needs as challenges. Higher education personnel listed educational benefit to students, programing quality, Chinese teacher training, and resources as benefits connected to Confucius Institute programing. K-12 participants listed educational benefit to students, alignment with institutional or school needs, curriculum, and programing quality as benefits.

The proposed 42,000 square foot facility is envisioned to be a satellite office for both the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as a digital research institute. The institute seeks to provide integrated collaboration with the NEA and NEH, although it is also open to collaboration with other organizations related to arts and humanities scholarship. The proposed site is located at the intersection of 14th Street and Park Rd NW, in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C. At this time, the neighborhood is experiencing a revival in development that began approximately 10-15 years ago. Community residents describe the site as being the "core area" of the neighborhood and also consider it to be the number one priority area for redevelopment of the entire neighborhood. Strategically locating the building at the main intersection of the neighborhood facilitates community involvement and cognition as well as encourages the surrounding arts and humanities related organizations to become more closely involved with the NEA and NEH and their research. This development is meant to be a cultural marker. Functionally, this facility will utilize the most advanced information technology and the most extensive humanities and arts related databases as tools for scholarly research.

This study proposes a research and critical reflection about social networks implications, while new space communication carrier updates the dynamic mediation of symbolic exchanges between subjects, generated in the young people attitude. The effort, inspired by the discursive semiotics and cultural studies, it begins with an analysis regarding the social networks capability to influence the construction of meaning that will apply in the choices for students in the third year of the Centro de Ensino Leonardo Da Vinci- Unidade Sul de Bras??lia, relative to which graduate education institutions (IES) to attend and what career to pursue, beyond to evaluate how is the interaction process with four IES of Distrito Federal. Moreover, we seek to find the construct process of meaning agents communication within social networks Facebook and Twitter . We realized after investigation, that the construction of meaning in this virtual environment, eventually contemplate some aspects of individual and collective reality. Young people test the new ambiences, but their practices still tend to obey the logic and analog traditional without effecting the sense movement and be influenced by the social networks themselves to the issues involving in decisions relevant to the individual.

Determina la utilidad del índice de pulsatilidad medio de las arterias uterinas mayor del percentil 95 como predictor de preeclampsia y complicaciones perinatales en gestantes durante el período comprendido entre octubre del 2010 a mayo del 2011. En el Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal de Lima – Perú se realizó un estudio observacional, transversal, analítico y prospectivo comparando 24 gestantes con índice de pulsatilidad medio mayor del percentil 95 con otras 40 que no lo tuvieron. El análisis estadístico se realizó con el programa IBM Statistics SPSS 19. La media del índice de pulsatilidad fue 1,31 +/- 0,31 (rango: 0,53 – 2,08) y su distribución siguió una distribución bimodal. El riesgo de preeclampsia y de complicaciones perinatales en pacientes con índice de pulsatilidad medio de las arterias uterinas mayor del percentil 95 fue 5,23 (IC al 95%: 3,84 – 9,82) y 4,42 (IC al 95%: 2,98 – 6,34); respectivamente, en comparación con pacientes con índice de pulsatilidad medio de las arterias uterinas menor del percentil 95. El análisis multivariado demostró que las complicaciones materno perinatales independientes y significativas en gestantes con índice de pulsatilidad de las arterias uterinas mayor del percentil 95 fueron: morbilidad materna (OR 4,39; 95% IC 2,02 – 9,55), restricción de crecimiento intrauterino (OR 7,25; 95% IC 4,42 – 15,08), pequeño para la edad gestacional (OR 7,16; 95% IC 4,42 – 15,08), Apgar < 7 (OR 5,01; 95% IC 2,87 – 8,70), óbito fetal (OR 2,91; 95% IC 2,01 – 4,11) e ingreso a UCI (OR 3,39; 95% IC 2,19 – 4,30). Se concluyó que el índice de pulsatilidad medio de las arterias uterinas mayor del percentil 95 predice en forma significativa la presencia de preeclampsia y complicaciones materno-perinatales asociadas independientemente de la edad gestacional.

Does the individual really matter in the post-modern world, brimming with countless signs and signifiers? My main objective in this writing is to demonstrate how this happens in Verhoeven's films, exploring his central themes and subtext and doing what science fiction does: hold a mirror up to the contemporary world and critique it, asking whether our species' current trajectory is beneficial or hazardous.; Dutch director Paul Verhoeven is a polarizing figure. Although many of his American made films have received considerable praise and financial success, he has been lambasted on countless occasions for his gratuitous use of sex, violence, and contentious symbolism--1995s Showgirls was overwhelmingly dubbed the worst film of all time and 1997s Starship Troopers earned him a reputation as a fascist. Regardless of the controversy surrounding him, his science fiction films are a move beyond the conventions of the big blockbuster science fiction films of the 1980s (E.T. and the Star Wars trilogy are prime examples), revealing a deeper exploration of both sociopolitical issues and the human condition. Much like the novels of Philip K. Dick (and Verhoeven's 1990 film Total Recall--an adaptation of a Dick short story), Verhoeven's science fiction work explores worlds where paranoia is a constant and determining whether an individual maintains any liberty is regularly questionable. In this thesis I am basically exploring issues regarding power. Although I barely bring up the term power in it, I feel it is central. Power is an ambiguous term; are we discussing physical power, state power, objective power, subjective power, or any of the other possible manifestations of the word? The original Anglo-French version of power means "to be able," asking whether it is possible for one to do something. In relation to Verhoeven's science fiction work each demonstrates the limitations placed upon an individual's autonomy, asking are the protagonists capable of independent agency or rather just environmental constructs reflecting the myriad influences surrounding them.

Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo discutir como se estrutura a Língua Inglesa na mídia publicitária de um instituto de idiomas e suas relações dialógicas com o discurso, a identidade e a ideologia na contemporaneidade. Notadamente, sobretudo na última década, impressiona a presença da Língua Inglesa na mídia publicitária. De forma contínua, os sujeitos sociais estão expostos aos mais variados materiais simbólicos constituintes da esfera publicitária: outdoors, folders, cartazes, folhetos, placas, comerciais de televisão, jingles, etc. As inter-relações linguísticas-discursivas entre a esfera publicitária e os sujeitos que com ela interagem, ou que nela estão inseridos, com base na hipótese que nesta tese será discutida, estão ancoradas em relações dialógicas conflituosas. Nesse contexto, questões identitárias e ideológicas se destacam na medida em que promovem, pelo viés discursivo, o diálogo de locutores com interlocutores em redes conflitantes, constituindo posições valorativas referentes ao status hegemônico que a Língua Inglesa goza na contemporaneidade e na forma como essa língua é vista e operacionalizada por seus usuários. Essa inter-relação é tecida pelo entrecruzamento de vozes, do enfrentamento com o outro, ligada à memória discursiva. De forma heterogênea e múltipla se constitui o interdiscurso que dá sustentação a toda essa trama (Coracini, 2003). Para discutir as implicações da linguagem e da ideologia, neste trabalho, nos embasamos na teoria dialógica do discurso de Bakhtin e o Círculo (2003, 2009, 2010). O status sócio-histórico da Língua Inglesa, do período colonial à contemporaneidade, foi pensado a partir dos estudos de Pennycook (1998, 2001). As questões identitárias, em um contexto global de hegemonia neoliberal, são discutidas com base nos trabalhos de Rajagopalan (1998), Milton Santos (2000), Bauman (2005) e Moita Lopes (2008). O corpus selecionado para a análise é constituído por duas séries de peças publicitárias de um instituto de idiomas do Estado de São Paulo, coletados em sites da web. Os resultados obtidos a partir das análises sugerem que as peças publicitárias estão imbricadas em relações dialógicas conflituosas atreladas aos fluxos discursivos, identitários e ideológicos da globalização contemporânea, constituindo posições valorativas a respeito do status que a Língua Inglesa ocupa na atualidade e dos sujeitos que com essa língua interagem

The digital development of the 1990s and early 2000s had a major effect on the Swedish media industry, including newspapers. Still, it is not clear what role academia had during this process. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to examine the role of the university in the digital development of the Swedish news media industry. To investigate this, a case study has been performed, focusing on the Swedish technical university KTH Royal Institute of Technology. A theoretical background was created, consisting of the three waves of digitalization by Yoo et al. (2010), the emerge of the entrepreneurial university, and the Triple Helix model. Data were collected through archival research consisting of the Swedish magazines Ny Teknik and Pressens Tidning, and semi-structured interviews with seven individuals. The results showed that the digital development of the Swedish news media industry was characterized by the rise of the Internet, which generated both new news channels and contributed to digitally develop the printing industry. The results indicate that KTH’s role in this development was to provide the industry with well-educated engineers as well as innovations through research projects, to help media companies handle the opportunities and the challenges the digital development offered. The results also indicate that KTH in some ways can be compared to an entrepreneurial university, since the university has contributed to economic activities in society. However, most of these activities would not have been possible without the participation of the media industry, demonstrating that the concept of the Triple Helix to some extent also can be applied to this case study.
Den digitala utvecklingen av 1990- och tidigt 2000-tal hade en stor effekt på den svenska medieindustrin, inklusive tidningsindustrin. Det är dock inte klart vad för roll universiteten hade under denna process. Syftet med denna uppsats är därför att undersöka universitetets roll i den digitala utvecklingen av den svenska nyhetsmedieindustrin. För att undersöka detta har en fallstudie genomförts, som fokuserar på det svenska tekniska universitetet KTH Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan. En teoretisk bakgrund togs fram, bestående av de tre vågorna av digitalisering av Yoo et al. (2010), framväxten av det entreprenöriella universitetet och modellen Triple Helix. Data samlades in genom arkivforsknings bestående av de svenska tidningarna Ny Teknik och Pressens Tidning, samt semistrukturerade intervjuer med sju personer. Resultaten visade att den digitala utvecklingen av den svenska nyhetsmedieindustrin karaktäriserades av uppkomsten av Internet, vilket genererade både nya nyhetskanaler och bidrog till en digital utveckling av tryckeribranschen. Resultaten indikerar att KTH:s roll i denna utveckling bestod av att bidra med välutbildade ingenjörer till industrin, likväl som innovation genom forskningsprojekt, vilket hjälpte industrin hantera möjligheterna och utmaningarna som den digitala utvecklingen medförde. Resultaten indikerar också att KTH i viss utsträckning kan jämföras med det entreprenöriella universitetet, eftersom universitetet har bidragit till ekonomiska aktiviteter i samhället. De flesta av dessa aktiviteter hade dock inte varit möjliga utan medieindustrins delaktighet, vilket demonstrerar att modellen Triple Helix i viss utsträckning kan appliceras på denna fallstudie.

La principal motivación para el desarrollo del presente documento es plantear la urgente necesidad de aumentar la red investigativa en el área científica marina en Chile. Tenemos un potencial enorme que aún no hemos aprovechado, y tenemos un recurso marino que está en peligro de extinción. La contaminación del mar y la poca preocupación que tenemos por él, nos está haciendo perder lenta y paulatinamente con la fuente de riquezas natural y que debió haber sido inagotable, pero en este momento es limitada. La sobreexplotación de los recursos marinos está generando la extinción de especies y su desaparición eterna de la faz de la tierra. Lo que puede parecer pan para hoy, será hambre para mañana. Es por esto que necesitamos crear una real conciencia en la gente, y programar a futuro la explotación medida de los recursos que nuestro mar nos da para subsistir.

Memoria para optar al título de Arquitecto
El presente documento manifiesta el desarrollo de proyecto de título “Estación de Biología Marina Itinerante”, el cual se inicia a partir del acercamiento a la temática “conservación de la Biodiversidad Marina de Chile” para finalmente terminar expresando las principales directrices que guiaron el desarrollo de esta propuesta de arquitectura. El proyecto tiene como propósito crear una red de investigación marina que incorpore la difusión y educación como uno de sus principales objetivos. Para ello se aprovecha uno de los programas de investigación más exitosos del país: los cruceros de investigación marina. Para alcanzar este objetivo, la propuesta replantea la forma en que se concibe un centro de difusión, a explotar la indiscutible necesidad de adentrarse al territorio marino para su estudio, planteando así la intervención de policabotaje, para transformarlo en una plataforma itinerante capaz de abordar la concientización sobre la importancia de la conservación de la biodiversidad marina. La necesidad de un proyecto de estas características surge de manera inherente al analizar la realidad nacional respecto del estado de conservación de nuestro mar, su estudio y el gran desconocimiento que existe sobre su importancia, considerando que parte importante de la economía del país se desarrolla a partir de las riquezas que este mismo nos entrega, como son la pesca, navegación y turismo .
