Musical performance represents a secondary creation of musical works, necessitating performers to possess a high level of artistic cultivation and a deep understanding of the artistic style inherent in the music. Performers must bring unique aesthetic characteristics to their performances. The performer's personality, temperament, and experience, along with the local cultural background, influence the artistic style in musical performance. Therefore, performers must specifically analyze these influencing factors and explore methods of artistic expression in musical performance. By accurately understanding and interpreting musical works, performers can achieve a perfect rendition.

Raphael, the most important artist in the heyday of the Renaissance, influenced the artistic development of Europe during the Renaissance and more areas in the future with his unique painting style and deep pursuit of ideal beauty. The formation of Raphael's artistic style comes from the background of his Renaissance, his life experience, and the influence of artists of the same period. This paper studies the formation of Raphael's painting style: the background of the Renaissance provided a unique condition for Raphael's painting creation, which catalyzed and formed his unique personal style; The further formation of Raphael's painting style was greatly influenced by outstanding artists from all over the world at the same time. In the end, Raphael formed his own style in the later period of his creative career, which can rival or even surpass other artists: harmonious pictures, exquisite coloring techniques, and the ideal human beauty displayed in the pictures. Furthermore, while Raphael was influenced by other painters' styles, Raphael also had an important influence on painters of the same period and future generations.

The purpose of the article is to discover the mechanism of Kyiv Metropolitans influence processes in the monumental painting of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The research methodology is based on complex using historical and cultural analysis, art study analysis, hermeneutical and biographical methods. Scientific novelty. Based on archival materials the author determines the specific means of Kyiv Metropolitans influence the evolution and preservation of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra’s sacral painting in 1786–1917. This influence is investigated in the theoretical and practical aspects. The scheme of the Metropolitans influences the mural painting processes is revealed: the Spiritual Council (preparatory stage) – Metropolitan (decision) – the head of the painting workshop (responsible for fulfillment) − artists (fulfillment). The Metropolitans leading role in forming the painting programs of temples and preserving the Lavra’s artistic tradition has been proved. Conclusions. In theoretical works, reports to the Holy Synod the Metropolitans gave thoughts and facts that entered the art history of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. They directly influenced the artistic process: controlled and directed the processes of evolution and preservation of mural painting, financial and personnel issues. Their influence was implemented in visas and codicils (visas were an information basis for painting dating). Their orders were performed by the head of Lavra’s painting workshop (icon-painting workshop). Metropolitans took care of preserving Lavra’s artistic traditions and artistic features of painting compositions. Heads of the painting workshop ensured the continuity in mural paintings, they followed the imitation principle. The interpretation of the artistic tradition was reflected in new mural paintings. Metropolitans determined the painting programs of Lavra’s churches.

Following World War II, French police surveillance in Algeria increasingly focused on the threat of Algerian nationalism and policing theater proved no exception. The police assiduously investigated the contents of plays and the background of performers, seeking to determine whether a performance could be considered “purely artistic.” In cracking down on theater, the police attempted to produce “pro-French” art that could influence Algerian loyalties, a cultural civilizing mission carried out by the unlikely figure of the beat cop. Ultimately, their mission failed. Live performances presented an opportunity for spontaneity and improvisation that revealed the weakness of colonial policing. In this article, I argue that in trying to separate art from politics, the police created an impossibly capacious idea of the political, giving officers justification for inserting themselves into intimate moments of daily life. The personal, the interpersonal, and the artistic became a realm of police intervention.

Abstract Worldwide trainers ask if there is a rotation scheme, which facilitate the learning of the elements with longitudinal rotations. Although there are some research on it, they did not attempt to verify a total scheme, but merely to see the relationship between two elements or four elements. In this study we analyse the appreciation of experts N = 161 coaches (age: 34.9 ± 10.9) from different levels of expertise and from different countries (ARG, BOL, BRA, CHI, ECU, ELS, GER, GUA, HON, MEX, PAN, PER, URU, VEN) with 12 ± 8.8 years of experience regardinghow gymnasts should execute 27 different elements in 5 male apparatus. We chose these elements, because we wanted to have movements with rotation in upright stance, upside down and in combination with transversal rotation. Through a questionnaire for coaches, we tried to verify if there are differences, coincidences or even immovable rules in the rotation scheme that gymnasts use (or should use). The answers were typologized with three categories of rotational preference: unilateral consistent twister, bilateral consistent twister and inconsistent twister. The study aimed to answer several questions: Do coaches agree on how the rotation scheme should be in gymnastics? How do coaches (former gymnasts) determined which way to turn? Do the handedness or the footedness influence on the direction of rotation? Does the personal rotation scheme influence on the concept of appropriate rotation scheme? Do the national practices influence the rotation scheme? Are there differences in appreciation between coaches at different levels? Are unambiguous rules among the elements?

Todays video games use diff erent aids to help players navigate and proceed in a 3D-environment. It is common that players are assigned an objective to complete and have to navigate from point A to point B, often with the help from navigational aids. This study contains an experiment where test-players had to navigate through a set of 3D-environments to complete an objective, without navigational aids. Instead the author used artistic techniques (geometry, lighting and texture) to see if they could aff ect test-players decisions in how to proceed. Results where compared to predictions in how test-players where believed to proceed. The results from the experiment states that some artistic techniques can aff ect test-players decisions in how to proceed.

This thesis presents experimental results of shape’s influence on user’s performance in terms of time and accuracy in shape replication task. The shapes are drawn with mouse, pen and touch input devices. For this purpose, two non-meaningful, semi- randomly generated shapes have been used. The first shape has a combination of straight lines and curves whereas the second shape has curves only. Each of these shapes is presented in four versions namely contour, polygon, narrow tunnel and wide tunnel. A method to compare versions of these shapes with the corresponding versions of user drawn shapes is presented. In general, the results showed that the replication of second shape takes less time and the replicated shape is more accurate when compared to the first shape. In addition, performance of the input devices was found to be dependent upon the shapes and their versions they were used to draw.

Thesis advisor: Ellen Winner
In two studies I examine how contextual information about the moral mind of the artist affects both children's and adults' response to works of art. Study 1 examined liking ratings of artworks as well as utilitarian objects. Factors varied were whether the items were said to have been made vs. owned by people of negative vs. positive moral character. Forty adults, 20 7-8-year-olds, and 23 4-5-year-olds were shown 12 artworks and 12 utilitarian objects and were asked to indicate on a 7-point scale how much they liked each one. Each item was presented as either owned or made by a person of positive or negative moral character. Moral character was predicted to affect liking ratings, with artworks expected to be affected more by the moral character of the maker than the owner, and utilitarian objects expected to be affected more by the moral character of the owner than the maker. Moral character had a significant effect on liking ratings: both artworks and utilitarian objects were liked less when believed to have been owned or made by someone of negative rather than positive moral character, demonstrating a moral contagion effect. Contrary to prediction, believing that an artwork was made by a person of negative moral character did not depress liking ratings more than believing that the artwork was owned by an artist of negative character. But consistent with prediction, believing that a utilitarian object was owned by a person of negative moral character depressed liking ratings more than believing that the object was made by someone of negative character. These findings held for all three age groups. Study 2 examined both liking and evaluative judgment ratings for two kinds of artworks: those whose content is related to the artist's moral character and those whose content is unrelated to the artist's character. Sixty-seven adults, 24 7-8 year-olds, and 23 4-5-year-olds were shown 12 representational paintings and were asked to indicate on a 7-point scale how much they liked each one and how good they thought each one was. Moral character was expected to affect both liking and evaluative judgment ratings, and content-related works were expected to be liked less than content unrelated works for artists of negative moral character; no effect of content-relatedness was expected for the putatively more objective evaluative judgments. Results replicated the moral contagion effect found in Study 1 for liking as well as judgment ratings with negative moral character linked to lower ratings than positive moral character. As predicted, liking ratings were lower for related than unrelated content for works by artists of negative moral character. Contrary to prediction, the same result held for works by artists of positive moral character. Evaluative judgment ratings were not affected by whether the content was related or unrelated in the case of artists of negative character (as predicted), but for artists of positive character, unrelated images were judged better. Children ages 7-8 behaved like adults for both liking and judgment ratings. Children ages 4-5 liked and judged as better the images with unrelated content for both mean and nice artists. Thus, adults and children ages 7-8-years old liked images more when the artist's moral mind was not visibly displayed but judged the related/unrelated images as equally good--indicating that the artistic mind (displayed through the arrangement of the composition, colors etc.) was more important for evaluations than was the moral mind. For 4-5-year-olds, preferences did not diverge from evaluative judgments. Thus, what they liked was what they thought was good, and moral "right" was equivalent to aesthetic "right". Taken together, results lead to the conclusion that artworks are affected by moral contagion, but moral contagion affects liking more strongly than it affects evaluative judgment

Metze, Stefanie. "An imperial enlightenment? : notions of India and the literati of Edinburgh, 1723-1791". Thesis, University of Aberdeen, 2011. http://digitool.abdn.ac.uk:80/webclient/DeliveryManager?pid=179528.

This dissertation highlights the influence of the extension of Empire in India on Enlightenment in Scotland. It argues, consistently, that an ever increasing contact with the Eastern parts of Empire over the eighteenth century created productive tensions between the personal, material and intellectual worlds of the Edinburgh literati. Scottish thinkers stood in close contact to one another and congregated in the Select Society and the Poker Club. Beyond the domestic boundaries, they had practical and personal interests in contemporary events in the East Indies. All had relatives or acquaintances in India and were all correspondents of Sir John Macpherson, Governor-General of India (1785-6). The dissertation shows that a revision of civic humanism on the one hand and scientific Whiggism on the other, found their main dilemma in “luxury” and “despotism” respectively. Both of these concepts were intrinsically connected with the perception of India at the beginning of the eighteenth century. One of the outcomes of the literati’s personal and intellectual engagement with India was the different solutions for the regulation of Empire. Ferguson, following the tradition of civic humanism, argued for the importance of civic virtue in order to maintain Empire. His thoughts stood in stark contrast to Smith, Hume and particularly Robertson. Vigour, instead of civic virtue, needed to be developed and strengthened. No monolithic canon of how Empire could be sustained was developed by these men, but all were involved in squaring the circle of improvement through Empire. The constant interplay between domestic, cosmopolitan and imperial spheres suggests that Enlightenment had an imperial nature, which is highlighted in relation to the literati’s particular investigation of “luxury” and “despotism” and their positive perception of Nabobs. Moreover, the dissertation emphasises that Edinburgh associations can not only be viewed as pillars of Enlightenment in Scotland, but also as networks and the gateways to Empire from at least the 1760s. The evidence assembled suggests that men like Ferguson and Robertson were active players in a world which was intellectually and practically shaped by Empire.

Bruno Munari was an Italian artist, graphic designer, and illustrator who combined art and design to great effect in his visual art and books. During his long, interdisciplinary career, Munari experimented with many artistic possibilities: painting, illustration, sculpture, design, graphics, teaching, poetry, and writing. He also cultivated a peculiar relationship with photography. This chapter investigates photography’s influence on Munari’s poetics, from Futurism and other Avant-garde movements to the Bauhaus and László Moholy-Nagy’s work, graphic design experimentation, and collaborations with photographers. His multifaceted approach can be investigated through two editorial project typologies: photocollage and photographic picturebooks. What is discussed is how historic, artistic, and cultural photography influenced his children’s works and to what extent photographic experimentation affected Munari’s creativity and aesthetics in his original books.

The author emphasizes a specific method for the development of visual perception, which is considered one of the most effective in the artistic-plastic education of students, especially for the training and development of visual perception skills through own painting creations, such as plein-air. It marks milestones for a correct and efficient reception of the environment rendered on the surface of the painting/canvas directly in the bosom of nature. Applying pictorial techniques and technologies, students/learners acquire the most important structures and models of the artistic picture of nature, familiarize themselves with the perceptual-visual and aesthetic system; begins to form and establish attitudes and relationships with the world/environment, which he can reproduce in his own vision.

Previously published studies show a clear difference between the eye movement patterns of artists and non-artists. However, the findings of some studies show that the duration of eye fixation increases as a result of artistic expertise, while other studies show the opposite. In this meta-analysis, we included the findings from 14 studies in which the effect of artistic expertise on the duration of eye fixation was examined. We also examined the potential moderating effect of task type, level of expertise, the type of stimulus presentation, the task time limit, the sampling rate and gender influence on the effect size. Results from 14 studies were pooled, resulting in a medium effect size (ES) of g = 0.63, 95% CI: 0.24 to 1.03, meaning that eye fixation duration was longer for artists than nonartists. We identified substantial heterogeneity (I2 = 75%, 95% CI: 59 to 85) among studies, but very little evidence for publication bias. None of the investigated study variables were significant moderators of the effect size. These findings suggest that artistic expertise has a significant effect on eye fixation duration. Although the differences are clear between artists and non-artists, other factors that may have influence on the duration of eye fixation remain unclear.

The development of artistic imagery of modern design objects is influenced by regularly updated trends that change in connection with the needs of society. The impact of the digital industrial revolution has several vectors of impact on the design activities of both the designer and the artist. The actual trend expressing this phenomenon is the use of neural networks and programs with artificial intelligence in the process of creating an artistic image of an object and even an art object. The purpose of this study is to determine which of the artistic and expressive means of the digital trend will remain in the constant practice of creating textile design and art objects, and which are a short-term phenomenon in the experimental format.

During the Stalin era, interest in the composer Scriabin noticeably weakened compared to the 1910s and 1920s. Nevertheless, the discussion of his works and personality continued. Particularly, in the 1930s and 1940s, his role in the Soviet vision of world art was formed. In the specialized music journal „Soviet Music” during those years, the Soviet myth of Scriabin was constructed. For this purpose, the epistolary heritage and early writings were studied, his work and the influence of Russian culture on him were discussed — as a result, the image of a deluded genius was created.

In the elaboration of this study, we tried to highlight the terminological constitution of the notion of creation, art, artistic phenomenon, but also to specify the essence of artistic creation, its role in the interaction with society and the influence it exerts on humanity. This approach has a predominantly theoretical value, because in order to explain the terminological constitution, we have to get into the concept and origins of the artistic phenomenon in the cultural and social aspects. Artistic creation, without a doubt, is strongly implanted in the spiritual relations in which it appears, but the contextual conditions of any kind are not sufficient to explain the genesis of the term. That is why we also referred to the problems regarding the appearance of the creative phenomenon, as well as to its evolution in different historical periods.

In the article, advertising communication is explored in the context of socio-political, socio-economic, and cultural-legal processes in Eastern Galicia (1919–1939); The ideological and educational concept of advertising materials is outlined, and the features of shaping Ukrainian civic-state consciousness, national and universal moral-spiritual values, interethnic mutual respect, and tolerance under the influence of press advertising are characterized. In the four chapters of the monograph, a comprehensive study of the essence of Ukrainian press advertising communication in Eastern Galicia is conducted for the first time in the field of journalism science. Iryna Nironovych introduced documents and unpublished materials from eight Ukrainian and Polish archival funds into scientific circulation that are directly related to the development of advertising in Western Ukrainian press. The monograph characterizes the national dominant of press advertising discourse in the conditions of Ukrainian nation’s statelessness. After analyzing advertising in 23 newspapers and magazines, the author of the monograph revealed the specific features of creating information-rich, morally ethical advertising content based on Ukrainian ethnonational principles within the territory of the Polish state. The author also justified the necessity of advertising communication as a means of promoting social solidarity and shaping high moral and spiritual values, as well as humanistic worldview and national beliefs among advertisers and consumers. The monograph characterizes not only the content of information about products and services (verbal and non-verbal parameters) but also the mental traits that, in the conditions of the Polish state, contributed to the promotion of Ukrainian moral and spiritual values. Advertising serves a complex of functions that are essential for meeting the economic, social, cultural, and moral-spiritual needs of the human community. In the conditions of the Second Polish Republic, the situation of Ukrainians motivated advertisers to seek a special socio-psychological, educational, regulatory, and ideological approach to creating advertising. The article emphasizes that advertising announcements with elements of national-patriotic coloring encompassed two components – informational and ideological. Advertising for Ukrainian books on historical topics, magazines, and public organizations carried an enlightening and educational, as well as an emotionally informative character. Press advertising communication in the fields of industrial and agricultural production, trade, household services, and cultural and artistic life served as an emotionally rational factor in strengthening the information-psychological structure of the Ukrainian national community.

This report is written by students in the Ethnic and Migration Studies Master’s Programme, part of the Research Institute in Migration, Ethnicity, and Society (REMESO) at Linköping University, based on the Norrköping campus. REMESO is an internationally renowned institute that pursues research in migration and ethnic relations. The Master’s Programme is highly sought after, with students coming from all over the world to attend. Their interest in how migration transforms the world and how it influences other social phenomena has fuelled their work in this publication. In their first year of studies, students take the course Critical Cases in Ethnic and Migration Studies, led by Erik Berggren as course coordinator and Kenna Sim-Sarka. The course is designed for students to apply the theoretical knowledge and experiences gained throughout the first year’s courses to produce articles beyond an academic audience for the broader public. Each REMS report is based around a specific theme, with previous themes including migration and Covid-19, migration and Ukraine, and migration and democracy. The REMS report is one of the many ways in which we, as students, are trained to identify and analyse issues related to migration, integration, and diversity and to make research accessible to a wider audience. This year’s overarching theme is Migration and Culture, sparked by recent developments in Sweden’s and Norrköping’s politics of decreasing and cutting funds for cultural activities. Arts and culture are both areas of expression for migrant communities and people on the move, as well as those fighting against racism, discrimination, and exclusion. The current debate on “Swedish culture” and on a “Swedish cultural canon” recalls monolithic understandings of culture as a natural and immutable construct, contributing to the polarisation of views rather than the multiplication of perspectives and conceptions of it. Like culture, which can be visualised as a tapestry created from different threads, different contributions, woven together to form something complex, this report is also a collection of varied articles, united by a common theme. Some articles in this report look at the accessibility of culture in Sweden and its transmission through all kinds of mediums, such as TV programmes; others engage artists or “social artists” who care about issues like migration and the fight against racism and discrimination, and some focus on specific aspects of culture and arts, such as language, food, and music.
